"Plavčik a Vratko" is the another movie version of "The Devil with the Three Golden Hairs".
It's the most "serious" film version out of the three that I know. This one is a pure fantasy movie. It even tries to be epic at some points.
Actually, this one has some flaws. The romantic plotline between the main character and the Princess is so undeveloped, it hurts. Come on, the romance between Plavčik's friend and a barmaid Majolenka is more developed. But the main romantic plot just falls flat for me. It's pretty unconvincing, when Plavčik states that he'll travel to the end of the world for his love. Though I definitely believe the guy when he says that he wants to prove himself. His feelings to the Princess are just not fleshed-out. At all. They just meet and get married right after. That's all.
Come on, "Wer reißt denn gleich vorm Teufel aus" had a better romantic subplot, and it's a satirical comedy.
Though "Plavčik a Vratko" has some amazing moments. For example, I like the royal couple. There's something Shakespearean about them. The King is definitely a flawed individual, but he's not a complete monster. He's shown as a caring father. Sure, he has his own thoughts about his daughter's happiness. But he wishes her the best (well, in his own opinion).
The Queen is amazing too, though she had a lot less screentime.
Also, I like the idea of the disasters in the kingdoms being connected to their respective rulers' faults.
This movie is worth watching. Maybe, I don't adore it like the other versions, but it's still interesting and enjoyable on it's own.
