ok wait hold up can we actually just like talk for a second about Donnie's behavior in these last few pages??

Before he found out about the infection, Donnie was still very nonchalant about a lot of situations, but he always had a sense of care and compassion for certain things, like for example, his family and friends. He used a lot of sarcasm and was overall just the snarky autistic tech dude who had more love than he could even imagine giving. He had a relentless grip on his bad-boy image, was stubborn as all hell, but was a well-rounded, lovely guy!

And then the realization hit that he was going to die sooner than expected. Then...

Poof!

Now he's just a shell (Hahaahahahahaha) of who he used to be. Now all he has for himself is a bunch of self-deprecating jokes, responsibilities to pass on to others, and a lack of hope that is just so incredibly unlike him. He still has the sarcasm, sure, but this time it's a lot more dry and emotionless. There's no brevity or lightheartedness to his words anymore, it's all just a monotone mess of half-assed goodbyes and thrown out dreams for the future. Any method of survival has seemingly been lost to time for Donnie, so now he's just kinda... Accepting the fact he's gonna die soon, which only leaves him with his own decaying body and a voice he doesn't even want anymore. And judging by the way he just ignores or shrugs aside everyone's concern, it's all basically just him saying, "Welp, guess I'll die. Here's my shit, no will required."

Also another thing I noticed is that Donnie is basically not allowed to really do anything anymore because he's at risk of dying sooner than he already thinks he will. If he gets more rest and works less, his death come significantly slower.

Meaning he must feel incredibly useless right now.

I think I've also pinpointed the time when this all started happening to Donnie btw. It's a very small moment and I don't have the screenshot on me rn but I think it was in the robo-Raph comic, specifically the moment when Donnie was zooming over to Casey and went "Past" that Kraang alien dude on the way. I imagine he didn't really go past and instead went through, because u know, he's Donatello. If given the chance to commit murder, he will commit, and he very much had the chance right there. I think he went through that Kraang alien, (Very plausible given how fast he was going like jesus- ) got its blood inside a cut or something, and it infected him via his veins or something. Kind of a stretch to assume this since it literally could've been something that took place before the time of this comic series, but this was the earliest instance of foreshadowing/possible infection that I can think of.

I also want to apologize for making all those jokes about like taking you to court and throwing you in jail and stuff because maybe they came off as mean or rude at some points. And for constantly flooding your inbox lol-

It’s like,,, when people talk about you, it should be “Oh yeah that person who sang for the Opening of Concert!” and not “Oh that person whose family’s an ass” kinda thing.

You inspire them to be able to face their fears, to understand that people on the top also face hardships, especially mental and emotional ones. Sorry if this has already been asked before, but have you ever thought about writing a sequel to SoH? I know you said it would be a stand-alone book, but I think a sequel where we explore different continents would be extremely cool. I just love these character so much and idk if I’m ready to say goodbye. I know we still have a bit left but still…

Hi there, this message has been sitting in a long queue of messages I've fallen behind on answering for a while now, but I just wanted to say thank you for taking the time to send it! It ended up being extremely thought-provoking for me, and you may have single-handedly made me reconsider my stance on a Shepherds sequel! XD

I always planned on this entry being a standalone game, though I was toying with the idea of eventually writing a sequel that follows a separate cast of characters (aka different protagonist and companions, though with room for potential cameos with the old characters). Pretty much like how Dragon Age does it! I won't go into the potential plot details now, but I was thinking it might take place sometime between 10-15 years in the future, and it would follow "a new generation" of Shepherds in a different locale. I've sort of hazily cobbled together ideas for the story/main premise, but companions outside of the main protagonist have eluded me at the moment--I really need to focus on this game, its DLC, and my next book first, so I haven't given it too much thought!

However, your comment has unearthed some feelings I've been having about a potential sequel, too! It's hard for me to feel like I'd be ready to say goodbye to the cast, as well... It's so easy for me to write them because they've been in my head for so many years, and starting an adventure in the world of Blest with different and new characters admittedly feels a bit strange. It's like having to hang back a grade while all of your friends graduate high school and then looking around at the incoming freshman class like "welp, I guess you guys are my friends now! 😒" lol. I'm torn on the issue: I don't want to not challenge myself or refuse to move out of my comfort zone as a writer--in short, I don't want to be the kind of writer who recycles the same characters and material because doing something new is daunting to me, and I don't want you all to feel like I'm making endless sequels/trying to recapture old magic and should just move on to something new, either--but I do love my cast and I'm not sure yet if I should definitively say, "No, their chapter is done with this game and it's on to the next!", because I can see so many adventures happening to them even after this story is over!

The problem lies with endings--there are so many different endings planned for this game that I hesitate in treating any of them as the true or canonical one, but otherwise trying to account for all of them in a sequel feels quite impossible to accomplish when I wasn't planning on a continuation--along with other logistical concerns that I can't get into at the moment. Like, what if you end the game with all of the Shepherds except Halek dead? What if your friend ends the game with all of them alive, but the MC is dead? This game alone is already 1 million words, but a direct sequel would probably wrack up hundreds of thousands of variations based on all of these choices in its first chapter alone! 🤔

That's why I figure DLC is the happy medium here: you can expand on or create new content and adventures for the characters, but slot them into the timeline wherever you wish, like in between Chapter 7 and 8, etc. And episodic adventures might keep things small and streamlined enough that I can update them more consistently, rather than hacking away at one giant sequel game!

Aaaaaanyway... All this is to say: I have a lot to think about! Absolutely nothing has been decided yet (not even close), but these are just some of the things I've had rattling around in my head. Thank you again for your sweet and honest words: I'm glad you're so fond of these characters and would miss them. I would, too! But whatever ends up happening, I know this game won't be the last time we see them. :)

Spoilers for V9 Ep6

With an exhausting day of revelations behind them, team RWBY spent the night in the hut of Jaune’s peaceful little village. Ruby sat at the table, Weiss found a nice spot on the floor with a humble bed spread, and the two new lovebirds found themselves sitting by the fire. Weiss genuinely was happy for Blake and Yang, if the foreseeable future was going to be this 24/7 then she might have to start finding ways to tune them out. She wasn’t even jealous! Just…okay, perhaps a little jealous, lonely more than anything.

Weiss:Are you going to sleep anytime soon? It’s getting late and that fire is bright.

Yang:Huh? Oh, hehe, our bad. I guess even here you need your beauty sleep.

Weiss:It’s just sleep at this point. Unlike everyone else here, I fell through a pit today.

Blake:Come to think of it…Yang we could’ve fallen today on that bridge.

Yang:I don’t know what you mean. I fell for you hard today.

Blake:*giggles*

Weiss:…

Yang:Okay, okay. Lights out time. Blake and I were thinking about having a look around anyways. The stars look nice here.

Weiss:Are you really trying to convince me the two are you are going out to star gaze?

They put out the fire and ran off before Weiss could poke more holes in the blatant lie. Not that she wanted to hear the truth. She turned her head to see Ruby putting Little in her hood and also walking towards the door.

Weiss:And where are you off to?

Ruby:I’m tired but..not really sleepy. If that makes any sense. I might as well take a walk and enjoy the sky myself; clear my head a bit. Night Weiss.

Weiss:Night…

And just like that, Weiss was alone in the dark while being in another world. She hadn’t realized how lucky she was to find Blake and her friends soon after falling. A night here all by herself sounded awful, and yet Jaune had to endure that very thing for so long. How he managed was beyond her. Though Weiss asked for the fire to be extinguished for the sake of sleep, she wasn’t as ready for bed as she led on. Now she was left alone with her thoughts, which unfortunately immediately thought of Jaune the moment she pondered being here alone. It didn’t stop there however. Weiss turned her head to the closed door he slept behind.

Weiss:(I shouldn’t knock, I shouldn’t knock, I shouldn’t knock, I shouldn’t knock, I shouldn’t-)

Her hand was already on the doorknob and she gave the gentlest of knocks with her left hand. Maybe her team had rubbed off on her a little too much, because this is when a normal person would go back to minding their own business. Weiss slowly started opening the door to peek inside. If was already asleep then she’ll shut the door and leave.

As the door slowly cracked open enough, Weiss poked her head into the silently and had a mini heartache seeing Jaune sitting on the end of his bed looking right at her with just as much shock. Weiss’s face turned dark red. She was caught red handed.

Weiss:…

Jaune:….

Weiss:….*slowly closes door* (AAAAAAHHHHH!)

Jaune:Umm, did you something?

The door opens much faster this time. Just enough for Weiss to stand in the doorframe, stopping herself from fully intruding. Jaune had already taken off his armor and removed his shoes; even his ponytail was undone. Suddenly she felt a little anxious. Thank goodness he didn’t stand up to meet her.

Weiss:Uh, thought I should let you know everyone else has gone out for awhile to unwind.

Jaune:So I heard.

Weiss:Oh, were we being too loud? Sorry abo-

Jaune:No. It’s uhh, it’s alright. Quiet can get really annoying in its own right. The liveliness is refreshing hehe.

Weiss:I can imagine. Sooo I’m not really that tired yet either. Mind if I come in and we…chat for awhile?

Jaune:Weiss…

Weiss:*red* What? There’s nothing wrong with that, if you want to; and… it kinda feels you want to, or am I imagining things? I mean wouldn’t a person on guard lock their door?

Jaune:I got better at fighting, not denying. Weiss, don’t you think..I don’t know, this is a little-

Weiss:Jaune, you know me. Things might be…different currently, but what hasn’t changed is that I am doing things of my own choice and that I can beat you up if I have to.

Jaune:I…can’t argue that. Is this a good idea though?

Weiss:We’re just chatting. I doubt Blake and Yang are coming back soon and Ruby is gonna value the peace. As for me…*sighs* I..I don’t want to be alone and I can tell you want to either. Not anymore. So…I’m gonna walk in now, we’ll catch up and…see how that goes. Okay?

Her voice was shaky near the end. Not out of fear or anxious, but vulnerability. The same vulnerability that she saw in his eyes as he took a breath. Weiss took a single step, giving time for rejection, but no words were said. She took another step, and then another, slowly entering Jaune’s room; before shutting the rest of the world out and locking it away for a single night.

Honestly? Great question. Like these two went from longing, to deeply in love, to “welp I guess we’re living together and eternally soulmates now” without ever uttering how they felt. Feels pretty on brand for them, doesn’t it?

But looking back on it now, I absolutely have no doubt that this is when Antoine first told her he loved her (because of course his emotions would get the better of his stoicism first)…

Although this is the moment that he knew he loved her…

And when she realized that she loved him…. 😭

🖤 What is their biggest regret in their relationship so far (or in the future, if you don't mind giving spoilers)?

Oh baby you already know. Antoine so very deeply regrets how he handled things at the end of the 1920s, more specifically damn near every choice he made from when he let Zelda go to England alone to turning down Giorgio’s original offer to buy the farm out West. He’s fully convinced himself that if he had made that jump at the right moment, he could have actually sold the jazz club for some fraction of what it was worth, and they wouldn’t be in such a precarious monetary situation as they are in now.

Y’all just keep this in mind because it will weigh on him forever. It will influence his choices both good and bad. His willingness to talk to Zelda but also sacrifice for her if he thinks it’s what she wants/needs because he’ll regret that forever. My boy simply doesn’t know any other way.

As far as Zelda? I don’t think it’s so much that she’s more forgiving of herself, but that’s she’s worked through some of the mistakes she’s made with Antoine, like ignoring his pain and over relying on him emotionally during the first stages of their relationship when she was generally much more immature. She’s made efforts to counteract that, so I don’t think she sees it as a regret any longer. Now in the future though…. 👀

Come on now, we know this one has gotta go to Antoine. I wouldn’t so much say adventurous, just because I don’t think either of them would fall under the umbrella of how I think of that term. Step by Step Episode 11 (OF DOOM)

Warning: I really, really did not like this episode. If you’re trying to keep positive vibes you should scroll on by, friends! 

Welp. I told a few friends last week that my biggest disappointment would be if, after missing the mark on the emotional payoff of the slow burn and speed running the relationship, the show chose to break them up and do a time jump rather than staying with them in the present time and working through the conflicts they set up. And here we are! I wish I’d been wrong about where this was heading. Shouts to @waitmyturtles and @neuroticbookworm for holding me down while this show fell apart on me, I’ve been all in a tizzy about it, because I really loved it for awhile there.

This episode, yet again, felt like a disjointed mess. After last week’s cliffhanger, the idea of Pat resigning to get away from the predatory office gossip fell away within a few quick scenes. Instead the tension disappeared as the plot brought them into a bubble with only their most supportive colleagues and we swerved into a retread of the Put nonsense and a new plot about Jeng and Pat fighting to save the digital marketing team via the power of Put’s quasi-celebrity and Instagram likes. Or something. I honestly couldn’t tell you the details of what they were trying to accomplish, I was too distracted by my incredulity to pay close attention to this very sudden fake problem that they were obviously going to conquer (that, my friends, is what we call conflict with no stakes). Meanwhile, the show suddenly wants me to care about Jaab and Jen again - enough to devote a big portion of the penultimate episode’s runtime to them, what a choice - after doing fuck all with that plot for six weeks. It’s a no from me. 

It doesn’t matter anyway, because soon enough we’re time skipping again! After resolving the work challenge subplot we speed past another three months of Pat and Jeng’s relationship without addressing any of their issues, and I guess I’m supposed to be at peace with being a full nine months into their relationship with no onscreen emotional advancement? But I gotta be honest, y’all. I am not. You just don’t do this with a slow burn romance narrative. You can’t spend 80% of your runtime building to something that you have no intention of paying off, and no amount of thinking about what else this show is trying to say is going to convince me they did proper justice to the relationship. I already broke down why I didn’t think the episode 10 culmination got us there, and nothing that happened in this episode changed my opinion.

And all of this is leading to yet another time jump - two entire years this time - after the big reveal that Jeng doesn’t believe in Pat at all and literally bought his success, Evil Daddy knew it all along and waited for a choice moment to deploy the info for maximum damage while twirling his villain mustache, and Pat is finally quitting for real and dumping Jeng for good measure.

And ya know what? GOOD FOR PAT. I was completely on his side in this decision. If there’s one bright spot in this episode (other than Chot, always Chot) it’s Pat getting himself together enough to realize he deserves better than the bullshit he’s been getting from Put and Jeng and walking on out. So Jeng and Pat are now broken up, but I never got invested in their relationship in the first place, because we barely saw it, let alone got the chance to live in and feel it. I wasn’t even upset while watching this breakup scene - it left me emotionally indifferent. Which is maybe the worst thing I can say about a dramatic climax in a story.

I guess next week we’ll meet Jeng and Pat again two years in the future and get some kind of happy ending. I’m gonna stick around for the finale and cross my fingers that we get all the epilogue fluff we have definitely earned, but sadly, this show has lost me.

seeking thoughts on a type of character behavior

Starting with a behavioral question to see if this is Relatable (TM):

Have you ever found yourself refraining from telling the truth or hiding information because you’re afraid of what the other person will think, even though you know that delaying the inevitable will only make it worse?

Maybe you’re afraid they’ll be mad, or will think less/differently of you. And you know that you can’t hide the truth from them forever, but you still immediately default to simple lies like “I’m fine” or “everything’s fine” or “I definitely am not planning on being possessed by a spirit during a concert you’re going to attend.”

Real talk, irl I know someone who does this all the time (not the plant part, the other part). Has for his whole life. It’s like clockwork. “Hey it’s nice that you’re confiding in me about this, but you should tell X about this, too.” “Yeah, I will.” (doesn’t do it, X gets mad months later when they find out). Every single time.

Now, if I have a character do this, here’s my fear of what the reader will say:

That’s so dumb. Why didn’t he just communicate? Why didn’t he just tell them? This is just manufacturing conflict because he didn’t tell the truth. Doesn’t he know that they’ll be made if he doesn’t tell them?

And just like irl, the answer is: yes!! he does know!! of course he knows, but this is a deep brain pattern and he’s fighting an instinctual fear of shame linked to his low self-worth!! and his arc is to work through that and confide in people again!! It’s psychological internal conflict! Man vs self, babey!

So, I guess my question is: if you were a reader, would you find this sort of behavior/arc annoying, dumb, or angsty? Or would you relate to this character’s behavior?

Book-specific context below the cut if you’re curious, but it does contain spoilers for both book 2 and book 3:

Yes, this is about Emry Karic, because of course this is about Emry Karic.

I’m trying to solidify his character arc, and am currently targeting: not confiding in loved ones -> confiding in loved ones. 

Why doesn’t he confide in loved ones in the first place? Well, last time he was really honest with his family about his future, they kinda kicked him out, and last time he confessed all this to Cal, she left him. That all happened pre-book 1. By the end of book 1, he’s reunited with his family and Cal, all of whom apologize for pushing him away and reassure him that they love him.

(I’m actually doing a whole short story on the family’s apology.)

However, Emry’s issues of self-worth aren’t magically gone by the end of book 1, and it’s not like he’s going to be great at telling people things they might not like to hear. 

A couple instances of this through the book:

1- Oops, Aspen accidentally possessed me for a brief second while they were trying to generate a rainstorm, and as a result, they summoned a really effective rainstorm. Best not tell Cal about this- it’s not like it’s gonna happen again, and it would only make her upset.

2- Welp, turns out that me being possessed by Aspen can actually make our troupe’s music sound really cool and we can do neat tricks! But Cal and my sisters will be at the concert. They’re gonna hate it. I should tell them before the concert...but I can’t bring myself to do it.

3- Andddd turns out that I now have plant powers from being possessed by a forest spirit repeatedly. I have no idea how my loved ones will react to this, so I straight up do not wanna tell them. However, I have grown as a person (lol plant pun) and so I am going to tell them!! And guess what, they’re supportive and they love me and my worst fears didn’t come true!!

A couple fears I have:

like I mentioned earlier, would a reader be like “oh he’s just dumb”?

is it too close to his family arc in book 1, where he goes from actively avoiding his family until he can Achieve the Thing, to seeing his family despite Not Achieving the Thing, and finding that they love him and just wanted him back for years?

If I remove this arc, don’t want his self-esteem or trust issues to be erased, because he also runs into imposter syndrome/ “am I enough without aspen?” in book 3, and by the end of book 3, he finally comes to the conclusion of “yes, I am actually enough.”

this is the first time I’ve left SoCal since it happened.

i always get a little introspective at train stations. which I guess makes sense, given what they represent. but this time is…different. even if that fundamental bitter-sweetness is still there.

im not gonna bother explaining how it feels to have every ounce of hope drained from your body, like blood from a wound. if you’ve been there before, you probably get it - if not, it’s borderline impossible to explain. but when darkness takes over like that, you become very, very certain about a lot of really scary things. and the one thing I knew beyond a fraction of a doubt was this - I was never going to leave that city. definitely not unattended; probably not at all.

welp. here we are.

my anxiety isn’t thrilled about me writing this. it thinks I’m being cocky, posting about recovery this soon - especially at a time when things feel so terrifyingly uncertain. I’m trying to remind myself that celebrating the small wins doesn’t necessarily imply anything beyond the present moment. I was never supposed to leave that city alive; now, I have. it doesn’t need to be any more complicated that.

but for those of you with a bit more leeway to imagine what my future holds…I’d like to think it’s a good sign, all of this. I’m far from OK, but I’m closer now than I ever dreamed I’d be - and for the moment, I am content. so I will celebrate this win now, here with you all, anxiety be damned. and I’ll keep this moment close to my chest no matter what comes afterward.

Is there any modern isekai anime you think are actually worth watching? Or is it all just the same toxic wish fulfilment garbage at this point?

Fear not anon, there's actually some good modern isekai anime still! But first, some hearsay:

-While I didn't personally vibe with it, I've heard a lot of good things about Re:Zero, but I've also heard a lot of bad and cringe things about it, so it's up to you I guess

-Ascendance of a Bookworm is another I don't know anything about, but I've heard good things

Now for the ones I have actually watched:

-My next life as the villainess: all routes lead to doom! is a 2021 isekai where a teen girl dies and gets reborn into the world of her favorite dating sim, but she's in the body of Katarina, the awful rotten-hearted villainess, and to top it all off she's 7 years-old.

Katarina soon realizes that, if her new life progresses the same as the game's, all she's got to look forward to is banishment or death, because game!Katarina is a major bitch so nobody loves her, and she starts taking measures for her inevitable doom: she learns to farm so she'll be able to procure food is she's banished, tries her hand at magic and swordfighting so she'll be able to defend herself, and other stuff like that

She's also a naturally nice person to everybody in the game so all the boys and girls end up falling in love with her, which she completely doesn't notice because she's dead certain that the game has to go on the preplanned route so she has no idea everybody who's supposed to romance and/or befriend the game's protagonist wants to jump her bones instead.

It's a pretty fun series, and while it's no benchmark of storytelling, it does have a few genuinely good plot twists and heartwarming moments. I wish it would end up as a proper bisexual harem, but I knows the odds aren't good, sadly.

Also, if you do watch it, stick to the first season. The second season is bad. Like Bad bad. Makes you regret the time you spent watching it-Bad. There's a movie coming on December, which I hope is good and redeems the franchise, but if not, the first season is good

Saihate no Paladin/The Faraway Paladin is another 2021 isekai where a random dude gets reincarnated as a baby in the ruins where a great evil is sealed, and gets adopted by three undead: a skeleton warrior, a mummy priestess and a ghost wizard. They raise him, teach him to fight, magic and miracles, and then send him off to the world when he turns 15. It's a pretty decent story, it has a slow start, taking some 5 episode to properly set up the MC's circumstances and goals before his journey, and it's got a second season coming on October so if you wanna catch up, you'll get more content soon

My only problem with it is that it should be a fantasy anime. The isekai part is... I mean it's there, it seems like there will be something with the gods and the different cycles of reincarnation, but it could very easily have been a fantasy story and lose nothing. The main character having been a random japanese man before reincarnating doesn't really add anything, so idk if you wanna count it as an isekai or not

Tensei Shitara Ken Deshita is a 2022 isekai-that-should-have-been-a-fantasy where another random japanese dude is reincarnated into a magic sword. He immediately goes "welp, time to discard everything about my previous life and be the best sword I can" and begins slaughtering monsters to grind levels. He eventually becomes a super OP weapon and that's when he gets found by his future master, a preteen catgirl slave whose caravan is escaping from a two-headed zombie bear

The catgirl gets the sword and kills the bear, the sword uses his telekinetic powers to kill the slaver by snapping his neck 180° degrees, burns the slave contract and they team up. The sword restores the girl's name, Fran, which she had lost when she became a slave, and Fran names the sword "Teacher", and they set out to grind levels so that Fran may evolve - because she's a member of the Black Cat race, which is the only race in that world that can't evolve, which is why they're discriminated and sold as slaves, and Fran wants to prove her race can evolve after all

This one I have a love-hate relationship with. It does a lot of the shit I hate on other isekais, but it also does a lot of things I like. Yes, Fran is ridiculously OP with little effort thanks to being able to share Teacher's skills, and she breezes through most challenges effortlessly which is often anticlimactic as hell, but she's got an actual tangible goal and a personality so she's already more interesting than your average isekai MC. There's no romance and almost no fanservice, and when there is it's always with the adult women in the series, so that's another bullet dodged

But on the other hand, the slavery plot is introduced, and then dropped almost entirely except for a bunch of obviously evil people who all get punished, and meanwhile everybody else is super nice to Fran and nobody brings up the fact that hey, she was a legal slave until not too long ago and her race is still being enslaved and nobody's doing anything about it, ain't that fucked up? No? Nobody wanna say anything? Idk, it's a fun romp but it's also very power-fantasy-trash at the same time. It's got a second season confirmed in production, maybe that will do something with the slavery plot

The Magical Revolution of the Reincarnated Princess and the Genius Young Lady is a 2023 series that should really have a shorter name, my god. It's another should've-been-a-fantasy isekai and it's. Hmm. It's got some amazing first episodes, but then they tried to cram A LOT of plot into the rest and fucked it all up. A lot of stuff makes very little sense, character motivations are all out of whack, and you get the feeling that they really needed another cour, or at least 6 more episodes, to fit it all in properly

It's one of those series that you can see the potential it had, how great it could've been if it had been allowed, and it makes you kinda sad that you'll never see it unless you go to read the light novels. The reason for this rush is that the studio wanted to end the series on the end of the third light novel, which is where the main girl gets together with her girlfriend as a canon, explicit, openly gay couple, which is a deeply respectable, dare I even say admirable goal, but I still wish it had had more episodes so it hadn't had to sacrifice the rest of the series for it

The Executioner and her Way of Life is a 2022 series, the final pick of the list, and the one I like the most, so of course it's only got one season and no confirmed sequel because god hates me, personally

The main character, Menou, is a teenage priestess from her world's church, and she's also in charge of killing all the japanese people who get isekai'd into her world. Menou doesn't enjoy the killing and feels guilty for it, but she knows she must do it to stop the ridiculous powers the isekai'd are given from bringing ruin to her world. One such power is the one that turned her whole village, people and buildings alike, into ash when she was little. She was rescued and raised by Flare, the world's strongest warrior, whose power is only matched by her mental instability, which she gladly passed to her apprentice

The story proper begins when Menou meets Akari, the new japanese teenager in town, and finds out Akari's power prevents her from dying. Thus, Menou takes Akari on a trip across the continent to see the sights and find a weapon strong enough to kill her before Akari goes nuclear. Akari, meanwhile, is ecstatic, because she doesn't know Menou wants to kill her, and because she's down horrendous for her from the moment their eyes meet, loudly and openly fantasizing about the romantic adventures they'll have and telling her stuff like "you're the only one for me" to her face

As the series goes on, you start to notice there's something very, very wrong with Akari

Another such character is Momo, Menou's junior who is also loudly and openly in lesbians with her, very annoyed that Menou spends so much time with Akari, and also very off in the head. I hope you're seeing a pattern here

The final character in this delightful ensemble is Asuna, the princess of the realm and the most well adjusted character in the series. She's a wandering knight who loves a good fight and develops the most hilarious crush on Momo, who wants nothing to do with her and is constantly antagonizing Asuna, attacking her, ambushing her and throwing her into deadly traps, only for the princess to walk it off and offer to buy her a drink. It's honestly hilarious

And there you have it, my personal isekai reccommendation list. Hope you find at least one that suits your tastes

im actually so glad to have known i am aroace, if it weren't for me being crazy about getting to know myself and searching things in youtube and google to understand myself better 5-6 years ago i would probably be having an even worse existential crisis :'> either way im glad ive accepted myself being aroace even if it was quite tough to admit i really was. today someone randomly asked me if i had a crush and it just made my mind blank cuz i forgot crushes and having romantic partners were a thing since i was focused on trying to make friends in a school I recently transferee this year. This was the second time someone asked me that which i replied with a "no" but until now im still kind of thinking about that interacting since they were literally looking at me directly in my eyes while i was avoiding eye contact D: I could tell that they didn't believe me at first since it took me a few seconds to respond. I was so close to replying with "im aroace" but i was quite sacred on what they would say so i just said no since i think im still not comfortable telling people who im not close to about my sexuality. People talking about their relationships still makes me feel so nervous and awkward since there's definitely a chance that they ask me about it but at the same time i dont really mind it either i just get nervous on how should i respond when they ask me XD welp i guess I'll have no choice but to think about how i should respond to that in the future knowing most of my batchmates have started dating and been talking a lot about relationships. But im still sad that im struggling to make friends, im really looking forward to having a plantonic relationship(i think thats the term) but it seems that i will have to wait longer since i literally cant make friends >: just cuz im really quiet (i have Selective mutism)and dont really talk much but at the same time i really dont blame them at all. Maybe ill just hope one day ill have the courage to make a friend and hopefully spend time with them of course not in a romantic way, i just want to bond with someone in a way we are more than just friends but also not being in a romantic relationship :3

Synopsis: The Cryo vision holder has a chat with you. The events that unfold are not as expected

The Knights were pretty well funded inspite of it being an organisation that doesn’t tax people for its services. The hall’s were grand and the rooms were luxurious. The cavalry captain’s office was no exception. The light streamed in through the huge windows. The curtains were partially closed and the walls were decked with maps scribbles and documents. All in a chaotic manner. Kaeya motioned you to take a seat, smiling in a way that you recognised to be his mask. A few moments ago you he was smiling with amusement, but now it was the same smile, the aura was different. A buzzing sound plagued your ears as you sat down. Was it your emotions or was it the fact that your heart was beating in your throat? Whatever it was, the sound wasn’t helping with the situation at all.

You shuffled towards a familiar chair, the one that you repeatedly created in your serenitea pot, all because you wanted to recreate his office.

Confusion and a numbing sense of shock flowed through Kaeya’s mind. Years had he practiced putting on his mask and yet this sense of foreboding shook him and he could barely conceal his emotions. This familiar face he had seen along with a blond headed traveller, The eyes that had kept on watching over him, the voice that seemed to follow him every time. The entity that he thought was imaginary was now in front of him and all he could do was pretend it wasn’t real. It worked once and it work once again. Right? He rested his arm on his chair while he stood looking at the person sitting awkwardly and refusing to look at him, only archons know why.

“ So, About the horse. Since you were very headstrong on getting him to join my cavalry. I might as well get to know him better. Give me a few more details about this future horse of favonious.” Kaeya gestured, “A cavalry captain has the right to know at least that much doesn’t he?”

“His name is Rugby, Brown and has an affinity for….Philanemo Mushrooms.” Of course you couldn’t tell that Rugby who was actually your dog loved dog biscuits. That wouldn’t be realistic. You hadn’t planned anything after meeting Kaeya. So you had to wing it.

“Philanemo Mushrooms?”

“ Yes, cooked in patties, like how Timmie’s mom prepares it. You should try it once. No wonder why Rugby loves it.” You blinked like as-a-matter-of-factly.

Kaeya didn’t budge, his face was hard to read.

He hummed, “ How long have you been in Mondstadt? You seem to know everyone here. Well, better than me I suppose.”

“ It’s been over an year or so, sir. I don’t think this has got anything to do with Rugby I guess.” You said, trying to wheel him away from finding out that you were here for only three days.

“ Yes indeed, but the knights have to verify your background. You could always be a fraud if we aren’t too careful. Lately suspicious people have been popping up in Mondstadt.” Kaeya stared. Scanning you with his starry eye. “You are a part of the adventurer’s guild aren’t you?”

“ What gave it away? I have been a member for an year and half.” You smiled. Of course that didn’t mean your palms weren’t sweaty and you just wanted this nerve wracking interrogation to end.

Kaeya shrugged, “The boldness. How Bold can a commoner be to actually waltz up to the illustrious cavalry captain with a blatant lie and still believe that the captain actually bought it. Only someone who has ventured into the crevices of adventure can have the audacity. Am I wrong?”

Shit. But yet once again you weren’t surprised, You didn’t main him for over 2 years for nothing. This was expected. You had to play it off cool.

You raised your arms in retreat, “ Welp, you got me. As expected of our beloved Captain.” You smiled, “Now then, Please ask away whatever questions you have, Of course a maiden would want to meet the captain to bask in his glory, and the very maiden will have her own ways.”

Kaeya chuckled, It felt slightly off. It wasn’t his usual suave laugh, It sounded forced.

“Guess you have adventured a lot in the past, would you mind enlightening me with your past.”, Kaeya gestured, “I am quite intrigued for I haven’t heard of a ridiculous name such as Rugby. As far as I know, No nation has such ridiculous names.”

“Uhmm. I’d rather not. It’s a long story and will take up your time.”

“Oh~ But you wanted to spend time with me, did you not? Please go ahead.”

“I do not remember where I come from, But I have visited a few places so far.” You had to give him something or else he might sniff you out. You could narrate your commissions in Inazuma. It might make it sound like you came from Inazuma. That sounded right.

“Oh a child from the land of Electro? Pretty rare in these parts of Mondstadt if you ask me.” Kaeya said in a robotic voice. He didn’t seem to be buying it.

“ That is quite the reason why I chose to come to the city of freedom. The shogunate wasn’t my cup of tea.”

He raised his eyebrow. And smiled, he seemed to agree now. “Yes indeed, The Raiden Shogun seemed to put up quite a fight, getting struck by lightning repeatedly isn’t fun in the long run.”

“ Urghh You tell me.”

“ How’s the traveller?”

“ Going to Sumeru. Going to save another nation now.”

He paused. The room grew colder. Strike.

Realisation dawned. You gave away the fact that you fought the shogun. Wait. How did he know that?

Hold up. Are all the vision bearers self aware?

How come Sara didn’t know you? Is it because she was NPC. What about Katheryne? Why isn’t anything making sense? How far does the self awareness extend to?

Your skin had gone cold. Your heart was hammering and you could barely feel your fingers. A ringing pain in your ears, you couldn’t even hear anything clearly. The world started spinning. What is happening?

“Y/N”,

You stared at your feet. No response.

“ The one who controls us. How did you end up here?” His voice was grave. It was almost close to a hiss.

You remained a statue. The shock seemed to numb you entirely. All you could do was zone out.

“ All my life, I thought that you were a hallucination. A voice that seemed to laugh at me and jeer at the choices I made. At first it felt comforting.” He spoke.

“But, whenever the voice popped up I felt my arms move at my own accord. It was as if I was a puppet.”

Puppet. You heard that loud and clear.

“ Mona Megistus once did tell that we were the pawns of fate and we are played by destiny.I laughed it off. But we both knew that what she said was true. She managed to maintain a straight face, Kudos to the all knowing I presume.”

You looked at him. You never knew the reality. His eye seemed to darken. He looked like a kid, who was told Santa wasn’t real. But here It was his reaction to you being real.

Sorry. I am sorry. That word seemed to be written all over your face.

“ Your presence was comforting indeed. In the darkest of times when no soul seemed to even care glance my-our way, I heard your voice. Crying. Sobbing at my fate.” He continued, “ Maybe you were crying at my fate or you were crying for me. Either ways it confirmed that our fate wasn’t exactly in your hands. But we were.”

That one rainy night, Bloody cold and helpless. As he limped towards a home which didn’t seem to exist at that time, when his whole world was spinning as he clutched the ice orb, he heard the voice for the first time. A weak choked voice whispering No. As if it was his mind screaming. Once he got himself somewhere safe he could hear the same voice comforting him or itself. But for some reason, he felt comfortable under its watch.

Guardian Angel I guess.

He looks at you, pale with shock. Guess you didn’t expect this side of story at all. He still wonders what your existence means. Who were you really?

Here you were losing your mind. You read the webtoon and plenty of fanfiction narrating the scene Ragbros angst, but never did you play an event that had the cutscene of that event. But then how did he hear you cry ridiculously when you were drunk and you had reached friendship level 10 with Kaeya and was reading his lore. Did that mean that you going through character stories meant you were at the moment in the story.

It didn’t make sense.

They were under your control. But you cant change their lives either. Other than stuffing them in a ridiculous teapot.

What now?

“Y/N, why are you here?” his voice was distant. He did not look at you.

“I..don’t”

“ My life was anything but free. Of course you know it. From my very birth till today, all I have ever lived is a life that someone else set up for me.” His voice grew louder, but more like a hiss, he seemed to be trembling.

“Just, when I thought it wasn’t half bad and I could actually live life like a dream things went out of control, only for me to get to know that it never was in my control.” Control.

He pushed his chair back. Slammed his fist on the table. Shivering with pure confusion and anger. His eyes watery, his breath heavy. His vision seemed to glow brighter by the moment and the air grew heavier.

“ Do you know how it feels…,” His eyes finally met yours.

The dark blue star dancing frantically, The scar beneath his eye patch pulsing rapidly, “ TO KNOW YOUR LIFE WAS PLAYED OUT FOR THE ENTERTAINMENT OF ONE INDIVIDUAL?”.

The air started frosting, snowflakes fell. Kaeya stared at you. Time froze.

Entertainment.

That was the sake of the development of a game. That was the sake of the creation of characters. But once you took the characters into your life, cherishing them they were given a life.

Now that you know this, what now? All you wanted to do was unlock teleport waypoints to travel around more smoothly.

It’s been more than a minute now. What’s up with Kaeya? The snowflakes didn’t move either.

Crackle.

The glowing vision, sparkled. It started glitching? The table started shifting, the hues started changing. The light pouring through the velvet curtains started changing. The clock started turning back to an hour. Kaeya started walking back to his chair, on his own accord. Glitching.

His eyes seemed to look at you in fright.

What’s happening to me? It screamed.

His mouth seemed to glitch. The room spun. Red and green pixels radiated from you, engulfing the entire room.

Silence. The room was set right. You swore you could here the same ding that you here whenever the game reconnects to the server.

Kaeya was in his place, smiling forcibly, birds chirped near the window. The sun poured in as usual. There was no frost, no snowflakes. The air seemed light.

You knew where to go now.

“ I’ll take care of it captain.” You whispered and walked up to him. Gave him a pat on his cheek and walked out of the door which was just opened by a confused Harry, who was just about to ask the captain why he wanted no one to enter his room. Only to see at a captain looking through his documents and no one else.

ITSSS~ ✨small KFP rambling time!!✨ a bite sized ramble ;P

Today! About Kai...because of course

I love him! And a shen or tai lung ramble would NOT be bite sized- sheeesh!

WAYYY wayy back when i saw KFP3 and hell- way before that! I had a thing for coming up with "villain redemption stories" or "villain joins the good guys!!" Stuff while maybe it was cuz Lil me really wanted to see more of those bad guys and DONT BLAME ME! They are great! But these days i feel like i think of such ideas because certain really cool characters dont have enough interactions with other cool characters

Or hell! Any interactions at all...it suckkkss but thats what the power of ✨creativity and imagination✨ is for :] being able to come up with new, heartwarming or interesting interactions for characters who otherwise never had such moments is great! And coming up with villain redemption ideas always opened up the possibility of said characters meeting in the future

Of course not everyone deserve a redemption arc but there is always the thought of...what if???

Now on the topic of funny panda movie guy

These ideas of mine eventually applied to Kfp! As soon as i finished watching kfp3 for the first time back then! i came back home, layed down on my bed and started to think how could i?? Redeem that kai dude!!

And well uhh it was not really easy Lil me was...creative i guess- but said ideas i came up with never really reached anything interesting they were just kinda One off ideas to be forgotten in a week- you know??

But this one stuck considering it was kinda the start of me writing down my ideas :0 nothing perfect for something written late at night by Lil me but truly a start! Thats what matters

I came up with the idea of reversing the roles of Oogway and Kai

●■It followed Kai and Oogway being met by an intense battle ambushed and cornered Kai entered a reckless state of fury wanting to show off as much power as he could! This led to Kai being terribly injured said battle was not one to rush and what kai had done could have cost him his life

Oogway made the wise decision to flee said battle and instead go search for help to save his dear friend before it was too late

Oogway discovered the Secret panda village asking for their help to Heal Kai

The Hardest challenge for Lil me was bringing Kai there....i mean we wont just Suddenly NOT want to steal all their chi and true Kai thought that if he had that much Power maybe he could have easily defeated the people who injured him....ashamed and defeated he planned to steal ALL of the panda's Chi and take his revenge..

The more he plotted and conspired as he faked to enjoy their simple, calm lifestyle as much as Oogway did...the more he Deep down started to feel peace

While not outright showing his change the more he learned about chi and its helpful abilities, the more he pondered...he started to wonder what they really fighting for, glory and fame were not gonna cut it....if no real change was being made then what for?.

This troubled Kai, feeling true comfort for the village, finding joy in the small things, the moments he is spending being helpful feel much better than the moments he used to spend destroying.

He never realized that his want for more power blinded him completely to the fact that there was already so much good around him...but now he gets it and the journey was not short

But those months of learning and training came to and end and so we come to the question ■ what is Kai going to do now?? As he stands in the day he planned to betray the pandas...

He and Oogway instead Leave having learned something! Becoming a peaceful warrior

He might not have found the Power to make him unstoppable but all the power he already had! Was enough to do something meaningful and truly special ●■

WELP thats what Lil me thought of back then!! Its not great- but i appreciate it for being the start of a more creative journey :]

Lil kid me would be proud of sharing this HAHA! i never realized how good it was not to have a word limit ✨ still short but- thats the point lol

Welp trial 2 is off to a *great* start

details under the cut so I don’t accidentally spoil the trial

-A couple secrets got confirmed in this one! which makes me sad : (

-Whit’s mom is dead : ( Ace has an eating disorder : ( Eden : ( just Eden is sad 

(this kind of makes me feel like that the world of DT is not very lgbt friendly, as Nico was constantly bullied for being non-binary and Eden worries her sexuality is going to ruin her friendships, I mean the DT world clearly has problems as shown in the backstories of several characters and in the bonus videos, even when the Tragedy happened because of the messed up expectations of society (teenagers being pressured to be the best of the best), society still didn’t change : ()

that was probably a little off topic but if we get bonus videos for the dead people in this chapter it’ll probably worldbuild a bit more 

-Also I am 100% certain David lied, not bc he said he got a dead person’s secret but we can guess Xander’s secret if you’ve seen the bonus videos, I mean it could be that it’s both Xander’s secret (Teruko having no idea what her secret is and the remaining few are kinda morbid), but David lying seems accurate 

-And it was basically confirmed Nico did try to murder Ace, and J making a VERY good point that it’s something they have to live with, even if they didn’t kill Ace

-Them talking about the rules (Arei potentially being complicit in her own murder) is interesting, makes me think it’s something that’ll apply to future cases

-Speaking of that I love how Veronika is casually like “oh yeah I’m keeping my secrets to pan out the drama” like she has 0 fear of death and is just here for the chaos

-Everyone’s reaction to the murder secret being “wtf which one of you is a murderer?!?!” XD

-And of course the dead students having a presence still, (I repeat my statement of not taking a drinking game every time the dead cast are brought up, your liver will die), it makes seeing their portraits in the trial room more... spooky? I’d say? Like they def aren’t forgotten, not even dying in canon will prevent you from having effect on the plot, you will haunt the narrative

-Xander def haunts the narrative the most since David pinned the mastermind secret on him 

-I kinda figured the ep would end on the note, I’m dying to see what that note is

-Also I wonder if it has to do with the Arei/J switch theory going around. Am I 100% percent certain it’s true? not really. Do I think it’s possible? Yes. Do I think there’s a lot behind the scenes we haven’t seen due to Teruko not being involved it things? Y E S

-Teruko’s actions are gonna hit her in the face as her removing herself from situations causes her to not be able to get all the information or even be able to help out, like she’ll probably slowly start trusting the others after this, since they’ve given no reason for her to distrust them

-Esp Eden, she’s trying her best over here

-Also omg I love the voicing for the nonstop debates, and the details of the trial look so awesome <3

Welp. Link Click s02ep8 has left me confused.

The other night it was like 1am and I sent to my friend (who doesn't watch link click) something along the lines of:

"People talk a lot about what happens if you go back in time and change something that would make it impossible for you to go back in time, like if you stopped your parents from conceiving you; but they never talk about the opposite. What if you're gonna die in the next five minutes but then you from the future appears and say "uhhh don't go there you're gonna die lmao" then you don't. But like. How was future you able to save you if you're supposedly dead in their timeline." and I though I was just being silly and Ovethinking™.

BUT THAT'S EXACTLY WHAT THIS EPISODE IS ABOUT FOR ME

The way this show's timeline works is like: there's the og, then cxs enters it and maybe alters stuff, and then in the future it reflects. I know time loops have happened before, like with Liu Min and the Big Plan© from s01 but there it made sense. The one that would die/be incapacitated was not cxs, so he could go back at any point and create the time loop like that. BUT WHEN IT'S HIM HIMSELF IT DOESN'T MAKE SENSE

I know time travel is a topic in which you can have whatever since nothing is real so like do what you want yk. But even so, you gotta keep things consistent in order to not make it confusing/seem like bad writing. Don't get me wrong, I like the idea and I'm actually very intrigued by it, but I know we won't get an explanation as to how the time loop started (just like with the other one) so I just thought I'd dump my thoughts here.

And now that i think about it didn't zelda ocarina of time kinda do the same thing with the song of storm-

This show's gonna make me go insane fr.

(I won't even get into the topic of how that wasn't Lu Guang and that was my biggest fear bc even though they went with that and I wanna chew my chair's legs off I... kinda think it had emotional impact still? I mean he wasn't being the imprudent king like we thought but he let the imprudent king get inside his body willingly so like... I guess it works? idk man I'm just a shirt)
