Fun Fact
BuzzFeed published a report claiming that Tumblr was utilized as a distribution channel for Russian agents to influence American voting habits during the 2016 presidential election in Feb 2018.
Last night I went to Ru Paul’s Werq The World show in Alabama. I want you to think about that. In Alabama! I must say, I had a lot of thoughts about how it would go. It was in the VBC which is a really nice and large arena. I’ve seen Ghost, Falling in Reverse, Papa Roach, and Hollywood Undead play there.
But I thought… it’s Alabama… maybe the crowd will be small… maybe there will be protests outside… maybe people won’t be as supportive… maybe this’ll be the day that I die in an an anti-gay gun down.
I mean, I’ve been to a good amount of small local drag shows here and they’ve been a blast, but they’re small and local. This is a big event and idk how many drag lovers are in this town.
Not to be such a Debby downer but I didn’t have high hopes even though me and my group were very excited to see it.
I have never, and I mean NEVER have seen such an energetic crowd!!! The stadium was packed and everyone was so incredibly happy and decked out in pride gear I could not believe how fucking supportive everyone was!!! The crowd jumped to their feet multiple times, screamed louder than I’ve heard at any concert, and I completely forgot about any fears I had of any bigots. And thankfully there were no protests!
Now I don’t watch Ru Paul’s Drag Race on tv so I don’t know any of the queens names but I was so excited to see them anyway. The crowd MADE me excited to see them as if I knew who each of them were. And when Asia said that they were excited to come to Alabama it made me tear up.
Thank you so much to the Queens for coming here and putting on such a beautiful and miraculous show! Thank you to all the people in the crowd who helped me feel a sense of belonging in the lgbtq community. To see such support of a queer event in a town where I have to hear day in and day out bigoted things towards who I am was a feeling of relief and love like I hadn’t felt before. In the face of adversity and at a time where we have to shout “Drag is not a crime” they came and put on the best fucking performance I have ever seen!
context: Asia brought a fan onstage and she told her that the fan could ask her one question. That question was “What was the shadiest moment from your season?”
For any of my drag race mutuals who still use this app, this weekend I went to the Werq the World Tour and it was ✨amazing✨. I very highly recommend going to see it if you have the opportunity!
