A friend of mine sent an ask but requested to stay anon! So here's the question:
Tumblr media
I'm not the craziest about this ship so maybe my perception is not as deep as the fans. But I can definitely vouch for their relationship. Stephen assisted Tony several times in the past, despite their conflict between magic and science.
There was a time they were on opposite sides (check Civil War), which can definitely be perceived as angsty juice. After that, they never really had their time to talk about it, but they became closer and closer thanks to the Illuminati (and I mean, not in a healthy way since this group is not supposed to portray goodness. It's complicated).
Still, despite all the troubles that ensued, they've become even closer, and Tony always goes to Stephen whenever magic is involved because he truly trusts him. In an alternate future, Tony even becomes Sorcerer Supreme.
Tumblr media
616 is not the best source of food for this ship imo, tho. I think Midnight Suns and Marvel Action: Chillers (IDWverse) are more interesting in this regard, they feel more... how can I put this... married. if not, then certainly domestic.
And yes, I do have a list of recs for some ships (because I'm insane). It needs some updating tho, so my apologies if it's not complete. I'll do my best!
1 - Avengers v1 #116-118 + Defenders v1 #8-10 (read concomitantly) 2 - Marvel Team-Up v1 #50-51 3 - West Coast Avengers #78-79 4 - What If? v2 #113 5 - New Avengers: Illuminati #1 (one-shot) 6 - New Avengers: Illuminati #1-5 7 - Civil War #1 8 - New Avengers v1 #28-30 9 - Invincible Iron Man v2 #22-24 10 - Marvel Holiday Special #1 11 - Avengers v4 #8-12 12 - Doctor Doom and the Masters of Evil #1 13 - Iron Man Legacy #6; #10-11 14 - New Avengers v3 #1-7; #9-10 (+Infinity #1-6); #18-22 15 - Invincible Iron Man v3 #3; #5 16 - Avengers v8 #1-6 17 - Doctor strange v5 #1 18 - Gwenpool Strikes Back #3 19 - Avengers: Loki Unleashed! #1 20 - Magnificent Ms. Marvel #9 21 - Tarot #1-4 22 - Mech Strike - Monster Hunters #1-5 23 - Fallen Friend - The Death of Ms. Marvel #1
Extra: Marvel Action: Chillers #1-4
Aaaand that's it! (we don' talk about the MCU...)
Thanks for passing by, I'm sending you much love! Take care!

Alright, because Tumblr hates me answering asks now, I'm writing a Simon rec list for someone who requested one here! I've written this as a basic "getting to know Simon" list, with a mix of the most important parts in his history, and issues I consider core characterisation that paint a picture of who Wonder Man is. This means I have left out things that are dynamic specific but don't say too much on Simon specifically, for example his Ms Marvel appearances or later WCA issues with Eric. If you are interested in something like this, please let me know and I'll happily make a further reading kind of list! Additionally, as we get into 2000s I have just given basically every major thing he was ever in, as opposed to 70s through 90s, where I was more discerning. This is because in recent comics, Simon hasn't really been a major player and his opportunities for important roles have become few and far between. This means the characterisation and quality isn't quite there, but it is important bringing you up to speed for modern Simon so they have been included.
Avengers V1 #9, Avengers #151-#153, Avengers V1 Annual 6 — Simon's origin, death, and subsequent revival.
Avengers V1 #160 — Eric Williams, Simon's brother who previously antagonised the Avengers in #52, #78-#79, #102, #106-#108, comes to ask questions about Vision and Simon.
Avengers V1 #164-#166, #181, #197-#198, #203, #211 are all different arcs and issues Simon plays a prominent role in.
Marvel Premiere #55 is Simon's first solo issue.
The Vision and the Scarlet Witch V1 #3 — Simon comes to help an injured Vision. More clearly outlines the dynamic between these two and remains the gold standard for their relationship.
Wonder Man V1 #1 — Simon's first solo series. This one is weird, but is only the second time we see Simon properly alone without the Avengers to help.
West Coast Avengers V1 #1-#4 is Simon joining the WCA, where he would remain for the remainder of the 80s.
The Vision and the Scarlet Witch V2 #1, West Coast Avengers V2 #1, WCA V1 #2 V&SW V2 #2 is an arc dedicated to wrapping up Vision and Simon's relationship. Looks into Simon and Eric's history, establishes their past and Simon's fear of failure. Simon stays a part of West Coast Avengers, so you can read this for as long as you want, although I find the quality slowly goes down the longer it runs but that's just me. Simon does slowly morph into more of an asshole as this series continues, which comes to a head during the White Vision arc by Byrne.
Marvel Graphic Novel - Emperor Doom — Simon finds himself alone after Doom takes over the entire world using mind control and leads the team against him.
Marvel Comics Presents #38-#45. Simon is sexually assaulted by Enchantress in this one, so it's somewhat uncomfortable to read but shows Simon's new 80s asshole personality and contextualises it.
Wonder Man V2 — Simon's only ongoing series to date. Written by Gerard Jones, so it is understandable if you don't want to read this. Builds up a large, dynamic supporting cast for Simon and more thoroughly establishes his relationship to Hollywood and life as an actor. Lasts for 28 issues and two annuals from 1991 to 1993.
Force Works V1 #1 — Honestly you don't actually have to read this, all you have to know is Simon dies and remains dead until...
Avengers V3 #3, #11, #14, #20-#23, #51— Simon's return from the dead. You can pretty much read this series consistently from #11 because he's in it more often than not but those are the issues I'd recommend reading of that series for Simon specifically. He and Wanda break up in #51.
Simon doesn't really do an awful lot aside from Wonder Man V3 by Peter David, which is bad and I genuinely don't recommend reading it because it's events mean very little and Simon's characteristion is... not it. The next thing he's in that's major is the Revengers arc, but before we get there I'm going to give a short overview. Despite being close with Wanda, Simon wasn't really involved with the Decimation. He was there, but not a major player. Simon also wasn't majorly involved with Civil War, aside from a short mini in the C story section of Civil War: Front Line #4-#7. He also ended up joining sides with his brother as a villain in Dark Reign: Lethal Legion, which is a very edgy book but is interesting to read if you're looking for his dynamic with Eric. Despite this overall inactivity, Simon was heavily affected by these situations and the build-up radicalised him, helped along by his ionic form starting to break up and become unstable.
The Revenger arc carries from Avengers V4 #1-#2, #7, New Avengers V2 Annual 1, Avengers V4 Annual 1, and Avengers V4 #31-#34 where he sort of backtracks on everything he did up to that point. There's some cute moments with Janet though.
A+X #12 is a cute team-up between Simon and Hank.
Simon's next big role is in Uncanny Avengers V1. These issues are #7, #9-#12, #21 & #23. Read these if you want, but Remender's characterisation for both Simon and Wanda is... not my preferred, and he gets them back together, so you have to see a lot of them. The main thing you have to know is that Rogue absorbs Simon in #21, and he remains bouncing around in her brain until Uncanny Avengers V3 #22-#23. This is also where Simon's pacifism is established, but to Remender that means just quoting Ghandi with very little introspection of who Simon is as a person.
That's the last of Simon's major appearances! The only other things left is Uncanny Avengers V3 #28, and the War of the Realms: Journey into Mystery tie-in which is super cute and fun to read.
So there you are anon! This is essentially all of Simon's major appearances with some fun comics that tell you more about him thrown in. As I said, some stuff has been omitted because unless you're interested in specific dynamics, it doesn't really say an awful lot, but I hope this helps and I really hope you enjoy reading!

For the sake of simplicity:
Volume 1: Young Avengers Volume 1 and Children's Crusade; this theoretically includes Civil War, SIEGE, Secret Invasion, and Dark Reign, but you can disregard those, as they were not written by Heinberg
Volume 2: exclusively Young Avengers Volume 2 (Gillen and McKelvie); you can include Fraction's Hawkeye series (as he and Gillen coordinated to ensure the plotlines wouldn't contradict each other; they came out concurrently, but YA takes place first in the timeline), Original Sins, All-New Hawkeye, New Avengers V4, Royals, West Coast Avengers V3, or Empyre if you'd like, but they are not generally considered part of V2 by fandom.

I’m just exhausted of seeing bad takes on both characters because of the movie but at least those I can take. But when I see someone commenting that Stephen and Wanda’s relationship in comics is based on jealousy because Stephen was peeved for being rejected when he offered mentorship to Wanda, this really gets on my nerves.
Tumblr media
West Coast Avengers #79.
Stephen has never been peeved about it. He has always supported Wanda and shared a friendship in which they trust one another enough to call on their own bs when needed.
Tumblr media
Doctor Strange v1 #381.
You all KNOW Bendis hated Wanda since day 1, Stephen in both Avengers and House of M is not in character when it comes to the bond they share so many times in so many adventures, and also it’s really convenient to pick old panels in which it seems that Stephen is strangeplaining her when actually pretty much everyone in the Avengers used to do that because of poor writing. Even Agatha is condescending towards her. And Agatha is her freaking tutor. And I could go on on how Bendis twists pretty much tons of characters to their cores (do I really need to mention Civil War I and II???).
Stop putting one against the other in comic books. We KNOW Wanda has been treated poorly for a long time since House of M and that was never fixed (maybe with Darkhold Omega but I have my reservations, also Trial of Magneto was awful on so many levels yikes). She deserves better and the hate she gets in Krakoa is awful, but she’s very welcome in the Bar with no Doors, so where’s your excuse that Stephen and Wanda’s bond is not good enough?
Tumblr media
Doctor Strange v4 #4.
At least the magic bond they share is waaay deeper than any other bond. Otherwise, you wouldn’t be seeing Magik and Scarlet Witch working together in v4. The magic community is something that I’ll never get tired of praising because it’s so much bigger than stupid little beefs people like to bring about. Really, if you’re biased about Stephen, at least do not twist what you’re reading just because you assume you know him as a whole when he has DECADES of character development.
Tumblr media
Doctor Strange v2 #60.
I’m just really really really tired of having to deal with people who only checked House of M and decided Stephen is like that. I’ve been trying to undo the damage of the arrogant narrative for literal years thanks to this arc, Waid and the MCU. It’s time to stop.
(PS: it’s not new for people who follow me that I also hate Empyre: X-men because yeah, Hickman also seems to hate Wanda sooooo last good time they had together was long time ago in v4. We need these moments back.)

Could I get a Hank Pym reading list? Please and thank you.
Hello & of course! I've written a few different reading lists in my time but I'll make an updated one for ease of access & such!
Avenger Origins: Ant-Man & the Wasp – a really good origin interpretation with Stephanie Hans on art.
Age of Ultron #10 – you can read the whole event if you want but to be honest Hank isn't actually in it that much except Wolverine stabs him or whatever. It goes through his childhood & background & marks the beginning of what I imagine was a very ambitious plan by Waid but then Remender happened. Still, a formative comic for Hank & one of my all time single issues of anything ever.
Ant-Man: Season One - another origin of Hank, going towards his growth to being Ant-Man. This isn't technically canon I don't think, but it's super interesting as it very clearly & explicitly intends to depict Hank as a mentally ill man & does so fairly well? Plus Bill Foster is there & I love Bill Foster.
Tales to Astonish #27, #35 - #52 – these are Hank's Tales to Astonish issues, you obviously don't have to read every single one but I really enjoy them, they're super serialised so you can read every issue as a stand-alone which makes it incredibly rereadable for me. Hank does keep appearing in those issues up until #70 so you can keep reading but at that point he's having a lot of team ups and ends up only being in like half the issue.
Fantastic Four #16 - #17 – this is more FF based obviously, but I enjoy it and find it cute as a two-parter. Establishes his relationship with the FF & begins my headcanon that he joined ReedSue once as a third.
Thor: the Mighty Avenger #3 – this is set in the Tales to Astonish days & is quite fun! Hank & Janet & Thor get into some shenanigans & it's good going. Samnee who draws really likes Hank & Jan & it shows a lot in this issue. Hank explicably uses his helmet to control a police officer which he has never done before or since, which I think is a cool application & he should do it again.
Marvel Feature #4 - #11 (I think) – this was an attempt at recreating the Tales to Astonish success but kinda failed, but it's cute & I really like it as a weird obscure story. Hank has a hyperintelligent super dog that Janet got him which was fun. It's chaotic and at one point Janet is a mutant wasp who tries to eat Hank don't worry about it. But it is good.
Now, obviously he has a lot of appearances in Avengers V1 & WCA V2. To be honest I think a lot of stuff evolves over time? So if you want to see the development of his character in Avengers up until he properly departs in #230, just read that continuously. I honestly can't name a lot of issues there where I'd rec for him specifically, because he's sharing space with SO many other characters. He has a little more to do in WCA so here's are some issues, to be honest I can't even remember when he joins but it's fairly soon into the series, his stuff with Ultron starts in #4 - #7 & stuff kinda just happens to Hank including flirting with Tigra until his life falls apart (again) and he attempts suicide in #17. It's an interesting study of him & I think Englehart does it justice. He shows up in that series pretty continuously & starts superheroing again with them & is in almost all of Avengers: West Coast too, so feel free to check that out although don't take what you see of Wanda, Simon & Vision to heart imo.
Marvel Double Feature: Giant-Man or Avengers #379 - #383 – I have never been able to find a scan of this comic online, you might have more luck on the official marvel unlimited app but there is an Ant-Man/Giant-Man: Growing Pains collection comic that brings together a lot of his vital stuff where this series is printed along others. It's honestly insane & I won't lie I got confused at the plot reveal but it's incredibly fun. Hank fucked up a science thing and has to fight big massive bugs and keeps going on these long monologues about how much his life sucks and how much he needs therapy while fighting massive bugs it's so funny. The Kree are there for some reason & Bill Foster is there! A confusing but fun time.
Ant-Man's Big Christmas – a festive comic about Hank & Janet terrorising a young boy's family on Christmas because he sent them a letter. Their dyanmic is so cute here & I like how playful Hank is in it :>
Avengers Academy – Hank is a teacher here looking after a bunch of young up n coming superheroes & I actually really like him in this role. Like he's clearly flawed & doesn't know what he's doing but he also does really resonate with some of those kids. Reptil mentioned him as one of the big heroes in his life so he clearly had an impact. There's a lot of stuff with the kids which is tedious at times if you're not into them but the Hank & Tigra stuff is so sweet.
Avengers: A.I. – this is probably my most formative depiction of Hank in comics. This is the one that establishes his bipolar disorder & is pretty sensitive about how it's depicted? Sam Humphries clearly has a strong vision for this Hank & it's a super refreshing direction IMO. plus he hangs out of Vision & Victor Mancha which is great.
Ant-Man V3 – Al Ewing's 4 issue 60 year anniversary has Hank from Tales to Astonish team up with all subsequent Ant-Men to fight Pymtron, which was fun & cool for the most part!
Don't read anything with Dan Slott or Bendis' names attached IMO, certainly not until you have a super firm understanding of the guy bc these comics he appears in under them are genuinely just so fucking bad.
I'll cap it off here, he appears in other stuff too like Beyond! & Avengers Forever & has a weird arc in Kurt Busiek's Avengers where past Yellowjacket kidnaps Hank but I think Busiek forgot & I can't remember if that ever got resolved? Don't worry about it bascially. But this is some issues I consider formative or otherwise important & major to Hank so I'll keep it here. If you're interested in reading every issue of his ever or something, you can check out the travis-starnes cmro site where he has collected every issue of every character, including Hank's 👍

what comics are the X-Men characters from??? (from your most recent art post) they're super cool (also, love ur art style)
(pic in reference)
hmm they appear in a mix of comics but Glob, No-Girl, and Quentin are from New X-Men (2001) by Grant Morrison, Anole is from New X-Men v2: Academy X (2004) and Roxy I think first appeared in X-Men v2 tho tbh I’m not sure when exactly… iirc Broo appeared first in Astonishing X-Men (2004) by Joss Whedon but he features most prominently in Wolverine and the X-Men (2011) by Jason Aaron! Which most of them are in actually so that might be a good starting point.
Glob, No-Girl, and Anole were also recently in Extraordinary X-Men (2016) and Next Gen (2019)… Quentin was recently in West Coast Avengers (2018) LOL
edit: OH YEA and Roxy and Quentin were both in Generation X (2017) by Christina Strain
also thanks!

what are the best Marvel comics out there you would recommend?
i dont read a lot of marvel but of what i have read i highley recommend young avengers v2 by kieron gillen, ms marvel by g willow wilson, the champions by mark waid, spider-gwen by jason latour, and west coast avengers by kelly thompson (though this one was sadly cancelled after 10 issues).
i’ve also heard excellent things about squirrel girl by ryan north, daredevil by chip zdarsky, and both runaways v1 by brian k. vaughan and runaways v2 by rainbow rowell but haven’t the opportunity to read them myself yet.
oh! and these last two weeks i’ve picked up loki #1 by daniel kibblesmith (which was a lot of fun), jane foster: valkyrie #1 by jason aaron (which i havent had the chance to read yet), and house of x #1 by jonathan hickman (which i also haven’t had the chance to read yet).
hope this helps out even a little!
