DCTV moodboards: Westhallen Christmas
Eddie and Iris have the snuggly socks in the top right - none for Barry because he’s already toasty warm without socks or the fire the other two like at this time of year. Barry is, however, determined to knit them matching sweaters and uses his speed to practice knitting a lot without them finding out (and lots of unraveling anything that doesn’t make the cut) before he makes the ones he considers giftable for their set to wear together. Luckily Eddie’s a dab hand at Christmas cookies - with Iris helping do the decorations for them only - though the cookies disappear pretty quick around Barry so they have to do big batches (and sneakily hide just a few away so they last a bit longer).

DCTV moodboards: Westhallen
Made for day 1: June 22 of @iriswestallenweek 2020 - Fave Romantic relationship.
My fave ship for Iris is Barry/Iris/Eddie. Even though it’s a non-canon ship, canon still managed to say it best with “Ever since the very beginning, there's been three people in this relationship. You, me, and Barry.“ :D

DCTV moodboards: Westhallen - 1x23 fix-it AU involving Earth-2
Many thanks to @sophiainspace for betaing the ficlet to go with the board. :)
An Accidental Relocation
When a hypothermic John Doe turns up almost fatally wounded in Central City park after the singularity, he's just another patient, put in a medically induced coma. It's only later on, after the chaos passes, that questions need to be asked – like why a gunshot victim has an unidentifiable type of bullet in him. Iris takes on the case, visiting for updates occasionally as she mulls the scant known facts.
Then he wakes up.
“I don't know how to explain it. There's just something about him. And out there somewhere is the monster of a human being who shot him and left him for dead. I can't let that stand.”
Barry should have known by the look in her eyes that Iris would never drop it. This case presents a living mystery she can't resist, which is probably why her visits to the hospital become more frequent... Barry decides to go see him too because it can't be nice to wake up to no real memories, no life waiting for you, no family coming for you. About all the guy remembers is his first name, Eddard -
“But I go by Eddie,” their new friend says, with a blinding smile that makes Barry feel a little hot around the collar.
- Except there's no record of his or related DNA, no fingerprints on file and no missing Eddards or Eddies anywhere Iris searches the databases. The strange thing about him is he knows Central City pretty well, only sometimes wrong about where to go as they help him with his recovery. The things he doesn't know are simpler. Spouting bizarre facts about world history. Not getting how to use basic technology that anyone born in the last couple of decades would...
The point at which their lives become even more like an adventure borrowed from one of his favorite TV shows, Barry has an uncomfortable inkling he knows the missing element to their mystery man's story. What if Eddie doesn't exist here and never had? What if he doesn't belong to their world?  Barry feels sick with the realization. They've practically adopted him as a member of their family - he had no one else and now it's hard to imagine their life without Eddie in it too. What if he doesn't belong here? Despite how it feels like he does belong to them.
He pulls up the samples from Eddie's case and does a more thorough analysis, looking for anything out of the ordinary. For once, Barry hates to be proven right. There are definitely vibrational anomalies he can't explain, ones that match with debris that rained down from the singularity, but Barry doesn't have any proper answers to go with his theory. Not until Harrison Wells reappears, about as abruptly as he'd vanished to another Earth, and it's possible to uncover the truth with his help. The truth that comes with a choice Barry has been fretting over for a whole month or more, doing terribly at hiding it from Iris.
Apparently, he’s only been saved from having this secret weaseled out of him earlier by the fact she’d made other assumptions about the source of his recent anxiety; ones she’d seen fit to leave him alone with, until he confesses the real reason to her.
“I thought you were gonna tell me you...that you had feelings for him,” Iris says as she paces in Barry's lab. “That I'd understand. Not that he was a traveller from another world. Again. Could this get any weirder?”
There's so many conversations to be had in the aftermath of dealing with those admissions... but the most important one, as they stand before an enlightened Eddie, is the invitation - nearly a plea - to stay there. With them and the memories they have made. He answers with a teary nod, the brightest smile Barry has ever seen and a movement towards their waiting arms.

Busy week but managed more writing this weekend. Have an excerpt - about 10 lines but who’s gonna complain about extra - from an angsty (but will have a happy ending) Westhallen story that is brewing in my mind today.
The Flash, S6 post-Crisis AU “Wouldn’t You Like To Know” ~700 words
“Barry? What's wrong babe?”
He blitzes through the apartment, looking for the proof he needs and finds it in a photo album near the bottom of the left bookcase. Barry holds it up, open, for Iris, pleading with his eyes for her to understand so that he doesn't have to find the right words to tell her.
“Yeah, it's Eddie. So -”
“Look closer.”
Iris looks a little annoyed but does as he says, scanning over the photo in investigative journalist mode. He sees the moment she takes it in, when understanding dawns. Her hand goes to her mouth. It's only then that he finds he can say it out aloud.
“Eddie's alive, Iris.”

2020 Fic Writer’s Year In Review
So 2020 in review because I like doing stats, there’s something comforting about working them out for me. Even if 2020 was not all that good a writing year.
I actually started writing this post in February but I stalled at the whole favourite lines part because I like to link to the fics and so it sat in my drafts for aaaaagggges and I’m finally getting to it again in May!
For anyone who got tagged in this post and is wondering why, that’d be because there’s a section way way down in the post for ‘Writers You Should Read’ where I am reccing you. :)
Word count written: 90,283/104,000
Word count for posted stories: 63,662/156,000
Number of fics: 34  - I included fics/fic chapters and ficlets I do with moodboards if they were about more than 100 words
(I also made 5 fanmixes + 1 fanvid)
Fandoms written for (for posted works): The Flash, BBC Sherlock, Legends of Tomorrow, Stargate Atlantis, HP Series, Uncharted
(for the vid - Mass Effect: Andromeda + Game of Thrones for 1 fanmix)
Shortest Story: If I only count fics that have dialogue that’d be the snippet of Killergold Jurassic Park AU I did for Femslash February, at about 300 words.
Longest Story: “A Matter of Time” my angsty/whump Hartmon timeloop fic I did for the Hartmonfest exchange, that’s about 8.5k words.
Looking back, did you write more fic than you thought you would this year, less, or about what you’d predicted?
So I did decently by my writing goal, 90k out of 104k, even though that wasn’t much compared to the previous year. I thought I’d done less, because I didn’t feel very productive, but I guess half my problem was writing things that didn’t get finished. I was hoping to finish more WIPs in general from prior years too and so get more posted than I written but I didn’t really manage that, oh well. I have 35 new WIPs awaiting finished from 2020. No clue if that’s better or worse than last year, may need to start keeping track of them somehow.
What pairing/genre/fandom did you write most? The Flash was my most written for fandom to no surprise. Most written pairing was Savisnow but Hartmon almost beat it out in 2020, very close with both at around 17k words each. Genrewise it was largely angst and whump as usual.
What pairing/genre/fandom did you write that you would never have predicted in January?
For pairings - I would have to say either McKay/Sheppard/Weir or Coldvibe.
McKay/Sheppard/Weir I didn’t expect because it’s such an old fandom and I was only into it in passing. Somehow I had a resurgence of squee for the fandom and a moodboard plot bunny that demanded to be more so ended up a ficlet. It was more not!fic than proper fic but I unexpectedly enjoyed making it.
Coldvibe was another I didn’t expect to write anything for. Moodboards, yes, and I did a fair few but actually writing a snippet with dialogue in it to go with my Elseworlds AU I wouldn’t have predicted at the start of the year I don’t think.
Genre - I definitely had a higher than usual fluff % though, it’s becoming easier to write with practice I suppose. I never expect fluff! I certainly also didn’t expect to write 2 quarantine/lockdown fics...
Fandom - unexpected was Game of Thrones. Because what I made was for Braime, which I love but I’ve otherwise only lurked in that fandom.  I did a fanmix and a moodboard with short blurb and that was more than I thought I’d ever do.
Did you take any writing risks this year?
I branched out into several pairings I’d not written full fics for before (Snowest, Westhallen) and I started posting my Savisnow multichapter even though it’s WIP slow posting and hardly going to be popular because it’s niche.
But probably the riskiest fics felt like ones that I wrote where I was worried what if I got wrong somehow (like my Iris with mirror powers oneshot or Hartmon ASL day fic) or that were very heavy emotionally like my Hartmon quarantine fic.
Do you have any fanfic or general writing goals for the new year?
Finish more already started fics! Literally that is the main goal this year. Start less stuff, finish more old stuff. I need to be more disciplined. I may not always feel like writing a certain thing but with so many WIPs there should be something I want to make progress on surely no matter my mood.
I also still have 4 bingocards to do - Bad Things Happen, DCTVGen, Hartmon (overdue but eh, if I post stuff it’s still good to do) and WIPbingo now.
From the past year of writing, what was your...
Best story of this year: I think my Westhallen ‘it’s the little things’.
Most popular story of this year (by kudos): This is hard to say when the top fic is “Why Should I Trust You” that is multichaptered and cross year so I can’t tell how many kudos it got last year specifically...it has 166 total. Otherwise, for new fics in 2020 it was ‘with one’s own hand’ a Hartmon fic with 44 kudos.
Personal favorite: It’s so niche but my Savisnow Valentine’s fic is my fave.
My favourite fic to write: The 2nd chapter of One Way Or Another. It was also tough to write but the not quite Frost!Caitlin back and forth with Savitar was strangely satisfying to write out. Also I cackle at the end of chapter angst.
Most fun to write: Definitely my Coldwestallen fluff/teasing heatwave ficlet.
Story with the single sexiest moment: Alas I wrote none this year on my main account and only 1 on my secondary PWP account so there’s no true competition there.
Most “holy crap, that’s wrong, even for you” story: Honestly can’t think of one, wasn’t really a darkfic kinda year. The few Savibarry things I created (a fanmix and 2 moodboards including a short ficlet) are probably the most likely to fall under that category for the pairing alone.
Most challenging to write: The Hartmon timeloop fic, because the plot needed to be good enough and getting pacing right was hard too.
Funniest fic: I don’t do funny much but I’d say the heatwave ficlet again.
Fluffiest fic: My Westallen coffee shop AU probably? Or the Westhallen fic.
Saddest fic: This one is hard to judge. I suspect One Way Or Another is overall saddest, because Savitar, but the Iris has powers one is fairly sad too given her inevitable trauma from being in the Mirrorverse. My Uncharted fic ‘Slip of the tongue’ is also post-breakup so quite morose/regretful.
Fic I’m proudest of writing: Probably the Hartmon quarantine fic, ‘Between Hope And Fear’ because it was a hard subject to deal with for me emotionally at the time. It was cathartic to write but then it looks like from the response that it resonated with several people so I was glad to have been able to write it.
Least popular fic: Going by kudos or hits, my Uncharted fic with only 4/35 but it is a tiny/kinda dead fandom. My Iris fic also was next least popular with only 9 kudos & 52 hits - I’ve only written for her a handful of times as I get a little nervous about if I can write her well enough and I never know if some Iris fans might avoid me due to ship wars.
Biggest disappointment: I wasn’t disappointed in anything I posted but I was least confident about my Snowest fic, ‘Love isn’t a science’.
General writing reflections: I should try and do more variety. Experiment more. Let myself write more shortform stuff again. I get a lot of grand ideas but I need to accept not everything can be long fic. It’d be nice to have some stuff somewhere between longfic and moodboard blurbs as those seems my current two extremes 90% of the time. I should probably worry less about fact checking canon stuff and handwave things more.
Writers You Should Read: My answer wasn’t initially gonna be much different than last year and I’d generally say check out my bookmarks on AO3.
But then I thought more and realised there’s definitely some other writers I found in 2020 and a few others I want to mention.
@voldiebuns has lots of great short fics I enjoyed a lot when I hadn’t many spoons to read fic.
@violetteatime writes great Hartmon.
@astrid-goes-for-a-spin I really enjoyed their Iris and Westallen fics.
@dance-is-life27 has some lovely Snowestallen.
@finalfantasyx writes very thoughtful Snowbarry that is also Iris-friendly.
Check out @tygermine if you want humourous/fluffy Dramione and she also has a lot of Merlin fics.
@jessequicksters is a great writer and got me reading some Flash pairings I’d not considered before.
@secondratevillain has a lot of fab Rogues fics.
@joanthangroff for great DCTV gen in particular.
@letmetellyouaboutmyfeels who has such great Timeless fics, especially for Garcyatt, but also has started writing great Witcher fics too.
Favorite character to write: I think this year that’d be Hartley, but Savitar is still up there for the same odd reasons as before.
Favorite opening lines:
I don’t think I have any favourites for this.
Favorite closing lines:
A break that created something else, each shard a possibility, a new path to see herself another way.
- from After Image (Iris, The Flash)
Because words are her thing and all Rodney really needs to understand is he doesn’t have to be perfect, he can just be, the same as John is with her. That’s all they really need.
- from my McKay/Shep/Weir College professors AU ficlet (SGA)
It’s her turn to blush then, and that brings out a smile from Barry that makes all his previous smiles seem dull in comparison.
- from my Westallen Coffeshop AU (Barry/Iris, The Flash)
Other favorite lines:
'I can do that' and 'We ought to be able to manage it' and so many variations of those have been uttered by him over the years. All permutations on the theme of him not exactly promising to borrow/beg/steal an object for the client themselves per se. 'I could do that for you', with the words 'I won't' left off.
{...]he blames Elena for her moralizing him – changing his perception from shades of grey to a stronger contrast.
- from Slip of the Tongue (Nate, Uncharted)
there's nowhere to go. Except there's that tug inside her, like a whisper of gravity, that says, there's here.
- from After Image (Iris, The Flash)
Hunter, who turned out to be less bring-home-to-your-mom material and more of a wants-to-take-you-home-in-the-trunk-of-his-car kinda guy.
- from my Snowbarry Little Shop of Horrors AU (Barry/Caitlin, The Flash)
But it makes Cisco swallow hard because that isn’t the Piper outfit he’s most recently seen Hartley in. This is the outfit he made for Hartley, erased from existence like every other part of their friendship.
- from my Hartmon Alice in Wonderland Fusion (Cisco/Hartley, The Flash)

I really shouldn't moodboard when tipsy because it generates too many ideas. Mainly I am doing so because it’s been a crappy day so there was wine while resting and now self-indulgent moodboard making is a good solution to doing something easy and fun so it’s not all bad things today.
Anyhow, trying to make a westhallen Christmas moodboard and already looking at pics has inspired a thallen plot bunny that maybe could be done westhallen instead (spn au for them hunting together).
You just know if Barry got dragged into the world of the supernatural, when he found out he wasn’t crazy and a literal demon framed his dad for Nora Allen’s murder, Iris wouldn’t let Barry go off without backup no matter how much he tried to keep her out of it. Plus, add in a fugitive Eddie who was framed by a shapeshifter for two officers injuries/murders (much like the S1 ep with Hannibal Bates but no easy resolution for Eddie) and you have an interesting team-up. Not to mention, Barry having demon blood like Sam in canon and Eobard as the yellow eyed demon would totally work for this AU.
Then I found another picture that had an interesting pose from Rick and was wondering what if westhallen... but as leverage ot3. Barry as the tech/helping them avoiding forensics role, Iris does research too but also is the one happily and fearlessly sneaking in places and throwing herself off buildings (but with some of Sophie's role thrown in too at times), and Eddie as the muscle who happens to surprise everyone by being a ray of sunshine and a pretty Face for some cons. (and Wally could be an ace Wheelman for some sibling teaming-up, but if Joe is still a cop in this that’d be...a pretty big family conflict.)

Fic Writer’s (& Moodboard Maker's) Year In Review - 2019
Having a go at this again even though I'm months late.
General fic stats for 2019
 Word count on AO3:
127,878 says Ao3 but I'm not sure how it calculates that.
My own figures suggest I only posted 86,632 (it'd be a bit more for moodboards but not by more than a few thousand).
Average Words Per Story:
 3609
Number of fics on AO3:
 24 fics (also 8 fanmixes, 1 meta, 1 vid and 217 moodboards)
Fandoms written for:
The Flash, Legends of Tomorrow, Arrow, Primeval, Teen Wolf and Harry Potter.
+ for moodboards:
(and ficlets in some cases) also – Fringe, Glee, Good Omens, Supergirl, Batwoman, Buffy, Uncharted, BBC Sherlock, Stranger Things, iZombie, The 4400 and OUAT.
Total Words Written:
164,175 – I wasn't the best at keeping track but this is my estimate. Same as in 2018, I seem to have written about twice what I posted. I need to get in the habit of finishing stories...
Some moodboard stats, out of 217 moodboards:
43 had a ficlet or story blurb with them 40 were non-Arrowverse29 Polyam51 Femslash28 Slash33 Het76 Gen
Shortest Story:
Not counting any moodboard ficlets it would be the 1st chapter of Potential Energy (for my Hartmon drabbles) "Just For Context" at 304 words. I really want to do more short fic for my favourite pairings, makes it more likely I'll finish them.
Longest Story:
“I Can Only Stare” which I added another 12k to this year. Longest story fully completed this year was “Simply Things Steady In My Heart” though, at 7697, my ensemble gen piece for DCTVGen Valentine's that I was quite proud of since it was the first time writing a lot of those characters.
Looking back, did you write more fic than you thought you would this year, less, or about what you’d predicted?
Slightly less than I expected based on 2018 – my aim was 208,000 words written and also that much posted - but then 2019 was not a good year for me, so in that regard I think I did more than I might expect based on circumstances. I definitely wrote less on certain fics mind you. I really hoped to get ICOS finished in 2019 and thought I'd do more on “Why Should I Trust You” too.
What pairing/genre/fandom did you write most?
Pairing: Answering this for moodboards too, that was definitely Snowest (with Snowbarry and Hartmon following closely behind).
For fics... most was Snowbarry at about 20k, followed closely by Savisnow at 17k and then Snowestallen at 12k. I was pleased I created more for Hartmon and for Coldwestallen this year, as well as a little bit for Westhallen.
Genre:  Angst with a happy ending for fics  I think? And AUs for moodboards since that's what most play around in.
Fandom: Definitely The Flash.
What pairing/genre/fandom did you write that you would never have predicted in January?
Pairing: Olivarry. Not because of any lack of liking it but because I was convinced I couldn't write Oliver but I tried anyhow and managed a ficlet. Similarly for Sterek even though I only did a moodboard, but it was more than I'd previously managed or thought I could do. Similarly with Coldflash too (see a pattern...) but I'm getting better at writing Len. Sometimes it really pays to just try.
Fandom: In terms of fic, Harry Potter, because I didn't think I had any inspiration for it anymore but I wrote a small poem "Almost Anything" that I initially had anon for it and also a few moodboards. For moodboards, Batwoman because I didn't know about it at the start of the year.
Genre: Maybe the meta I posted. I hadn't considered posting that on AO3 before but I decided to because I wanted to test out an rss bot for Fringe fanworks on the discord server I set up and with postings so rare in the fandom it made most sense to find something to post myself to test that with (the first bot didn't work out but someone liked the meta being posted). Moodboard wise I did a couple of more adult themed moodboards, only one of which got posted so far.
Did you take any writing risks this year?
I think mainly the risks were in writing new pairings, especially in writing Coldwestallen for the rarepairswap. But also it felt risky posting a very dark fic chapter (Deserve Your Silence) because I wasn't sure anyone else would enjoy that but I was wrong there.
For moodboards I started off the year with the ambitious plan of 31 days of Snowest and other than being a bit behind on a few near the end I did manage it overall. Didn't manage so well with a board a day planned for Femslash February (only 17) and Multiamory March I think I did about 19. I surprised myself with how many I'd made overall for the year but I do find it relaxing and really enjoy the visual storytelling.
Do you have any fanfic or general writing goals for the new year?
Going to try the same goal as last year to post as much as I write, though I expect most of the posted will be stuff I wrote in previous years. Probably only aim to write/post 156k this year though.
I also want to focus at least as much on some of my older fandoms (Sherlock, Fringe, SGA and Uncharted) and get a few WIPS posted even if maybe no one will read them.
I want to make good progress on my (now 3) bingocards for Bad Things Happen Bingo, DCTVGen Bingo and new Hartmon Bingo.
Moodboard goals I have a few – currently want to do more of the Femslash boards I didn't get to in February, as well as Multiamory March boards. Also intending to have a gen focus in April and using May to focus on moodboards that have been in progress for way too long.
From the past year of writing, what was your...
Best story of this year:
Not sure how to judge best but I'd go for “Tell Me What Were We Meant To Be” which was my Snowbarry Elementary AU. I loved blending the two settings and I loved how it turned out and other people loved it too. :)
For moodboards, maybe Thallen - Fake relationship for an investigation. I so wished I could have written the fic to go with it, it was mostly so clear in my head but I didn't have time.
Most popular story of this year (by kudos):
For fic Ao3 says “Why Should I Trust You” and “I Can Only Stare” are top with 139 and 117 kudos but those were both started before 2019 and I think it includes older kudos. My most popular 2019 fic was one of my shortest, my 2nd Coldflash ficlet "Burden of Proof" that got 92 kudos.
Sterek mystery AU was my most popular moodboard at 166 notes. I was just wow at how many as most of my moodboards are around 30 to 50 notes.
Personal favorite:
"Don't You See (What Could Be)" a Snowbarry Lust for love AU because it has humour and angst and complexity.
For moodboards, my fav is probably Bisexual Eddie Thawne. Partly because Eddie and nobody can pry this headcanon outta my hands. Probably also because of the cinnamon roll visual joke.
My favourite fic to write:
One I haven't finished/posted yet, oops. Out of the posted ones I found this SB memory issues fic "To See You As You Are" pretty fun due to seeing Caitlin unburdened and carefree for a bit.
For the imagery that was most fun to play around with, my SB role reversal summer and winter spirits with ficlet to go with it. It wasn't that popular but I love the colours and felt really proud of the scenario created.
Most fun to write:
"A Force To Be Reckoned With" because Helen Cutter is always fun to write.
Moodboard most fun to make Coldwestallen White Collar AU. :D
Story with the single sexiest moment:
One that's PWP and on a secondary account so no link to that... In which case I think this was the only smut I wrote on my main account was Saivsnow ch1 of "Trust & Other Negotiations" so is sexiest by default.
Moodboardwise my Snowestallen BDSM board for Barry Allen week.
Most “holy crap, that’s wrong, even for you” story:
I wasn't sure I have one like that but thinking more on it "Deserve Your Silence" maybe considering the theme of wanting to be free of suffering via any means. My hinted Hartmon other Earth tragic fic “Not Precisely A World Away” has Cisco going a very dark place so maybe that fits.
For Moodboards there's 3 contenders. Dark!Oliver/Felicity/Savitar, Savitar/Cobalt Blue!Eddie or Dark!Eddie as Godspeed.
Most challenging to write:
I think "We'll Get There Sometime" Coldwestallen fic because Len POV is hard. I'm verbose and Len is a less is more character.
Also on moodboards my Snowest Pacific Rim AU because of the manips involved.
Funniest fic:
I'm not sure my moodboards are very funny but closest is the pan joke on Pansexual!Kara.
For fic, the Lust for Love AU fic mentioned before, but I can not honestly claim credit since the funniest lines are taken from the original film.
Fluffiest fic:
Probably my Hartmon ficlet "Just For Context" - I can do cute!
Moodboards I do more fluff than with fic but it's hard to measure. I think Snowest New Year's?
Saddest fic:
Deserve Your Silence again. Or "Almost Anything" the regretful Draco poem. In Flash fic "Words are necessary evils" for Iris POV on Savitar and how the speedforce/duty Barry feels keeps affecting her.
On moodboards, maybe the one for OUAT Killian Jones.
Fic I’m proudest of writing:
"Lead You Home" it was challenging getting the plot and pseudo science parts well enough that timey wimey BS made rough sense. Also emotionally getting that character turn around was difficult. The speedforce characterisation was a further argh what am I doing but it was so worth it. I feel proudest of how it turned out and I knew it would never have much readership but the person I wrote it for enjoyed so there's that.
Also "
Would You Fight The Stars
" which was dear to my heart as a view into canon Hartley's downfall. There's so much to unpack with how Eowells treats Hartley and Cisco as employees, and as pawns pitted against each other.
In terms of moodboards, I felt so pleased with how my lyrical Sterek board turned out, though it was nowhere near as popular as the mystery AU for the same pairing.
Also honorable mention for my Hartley joins Team Flashboard/ficlet.
Least popular fic:
My Helen whump ficlet mentioned earlier, because she isn't a popular character and the fandom is old so.
I thought least popular moodboard would be The 4400 one with 2 notes but Eddie/Caitlin is only 2 as well and there's a couple with just the 1 note.
1) Joyce Byers moodboard. Figure it's because I'm not really in the fandom and maybe it doesn't show up in tags.
2) My Christina McGee board is also 1 note but she herself is underappreciated too.
I have 3 different fanmixes with 0 kudos too (Savifrost, SavIris and Savisnow, there's certainly a pattern there). Fanmixes rarely get much feedback though.
Biggest disappointment:
Nothing? I don't post things I'm not at least reasonably happy with. There were a few things I hoped for more kudos/comments on but rarepairs be like that.
General writing reflections:
Two thirds of my creations are for events or requests. I maybe should focus more on just creating without those, even though they are helpful motivators at times. Less deadlines, less stress. I'd already figured out I should not sign up to big bangs for writing or too many exchanges per year anyhow.
Writers You Should Read:
Anything by @ttinycourageous (AO3:define_serenity) or @kitkatt0430 (AO3:kitkatt0430). Also @kleptoandpyro (AO3:kleptoandpyro) and @sophiainspace (AO3:SophiaCatherine) do great stuff. There's so many more fab writers about though, so I am otherwise just gonna point to my bookmarks again here.
Favorite character to write:
Yet again it's Savitar but I did figure out why this year. The tldr; is... grappling with writing anger when socialised as AFAB to not show anger and catharsis at crap hands of fate.
Favorite opening lines: Not many it turns out.
When he meets Caitlin Snow, she is hunched over a microscope in Harrison Wells' living room, a makeshift lab setup sprawled across several sturdy tables. (Tell Me What Were We Meant To Be)
Favorite closing lines:
He won't let himself think of how many things he is capable that wouldn't leave a mark, at least not on him.
And he can't see past his plentiful excuses to the real reason: relief at continuing his path of least resistance towards its inevitable conclusion
.
(both from different drabbles on
Julian Albert shorts
)
Trusting in them, he relaxes into their embrace in a way he hasn't ever before. (We'll Get There Sometime)
Other favorite lines:
He didn't see how much it was he didn't want to be a burden like he'd felt he might be, how much it was a comfort to him as their lives changed drastically.
Times change; this feeling he has, as he steeps his thoughts in a sinkful of crockery and cutlery, doesn't.
Those she missed more because as time went on she had nothing left of the people they left behind too.
Of all the things Len stole, stealing away himself was the quickest, the hardest, the most harrowing because what he took was priceless and irreplaceable
A new taste, like a new line read, a new page in her story that's for her alone.
No matter where else he belongs in his life, he will always belong here in a timeless fashion – as Ray and Nate would say, one does not simply stop being a Legend.
(all from different character segements of "
Simple Things Steady In My Heart
")
Those thoughts were the precursors to his creation, the devaluation of Barry Allen's life in the face of everyone else who could live and live fully, unlike him. (I Treat You Wrong)
For every moment he feels like his warmth is infectious enough to melt her a little, there is always another push back – an equal and opposite reaction.
Still, it's so bizarre compared to how he'd dreamt this moment would be, but so much better, because those were idle dreams and this is really her, really into him
. (both from "
Tell Me What Were We Meant To Be
")
All the words muttered across timelines and universes, as one of them kisses another, merging into near meaningless murmurs. (Burden of Proof)
“Lucky we heal in a flash then, or a frost,” he teases and she playfully swats his arm at the joke. (To See You As You Are)
There's anger to be sure, but deeper there is a fear hidden - the stomach tightening clutch of disappointment, a feeling so unfamiliar after eons that he can't name it anymore.
"Oh, my beautiful boy, if you're saying that you don't understand,” she says with a mournful shake of her head, “That's like asking to be saved from gravity.
(both from "
Lead You Home
")
Even a rhyming verse - practically a spell - pressed close to her ear like a secret delivered just for her. (spirits of summer and winter ficlet)
At best, they've had to reforge a friendship, hammer it out into something new and tenuous.
(
Trust & Other Negotiations
)
The lie is so carefully constructed – from the faded postcard on the pin-board sent by her best friend who moved away when she was 13, to the My Little Pony she knows is in a box in the top of the closet that would now be collectible if not for the bite mark from the neighbors dog, and the quilt spread over the bed with patches of her old clothes sewn in - she doesn't want to tear the fabrication down yet because she has nothing to replace it with.
(
Elements of Belonging
)
There are no answers, just infuriatingly soft smiles from a woman who is not a woman, not a person, who is not his mother but he follows anyway, with his own matching smile that strikes new fear in her heart.
