After seeing white people reacting to Palestinian genocide, I get why they stopped watching Westworld after season 3... When they realised that they were neither the hero's and not the winners...
Even the stories where they are not the winners are scrapped... Why did so many critics went after it after season 2... I being a huge fan of the show know that story never lost quality... Robots were finding out about oppression and killed the opressors...
Tumblr media
Robots realising that killing every human won't solve the problem
Tumblr media
White people refusing to acknowledge that the show is an absolute perfect peace of art...
Tumblr media
Israhell thought she was Zuko but she was azula...
But in azulas defence azula had no doubts about who she was and she never denied it...
White people be more delusional than azula... Woooooooow

Hey, sorry, weird question, but what happened with Reddit and Westworld? Did the creators of Westworld change something about the show's future storylines because a redditer guessed what was going to happen?
So Westworld had a gigantic audience of 12 million, and it's surprising because this was HBO's attempt for a new tentpole franchise when Game of Thrones was going downhill.
A subreddit spawned, I was in it as a viewer capacity and there was a lot of speculation. Star Ward level of speculation. Which is good , if your show is good, you want them engaged.
So a bunch of redditors had guessed ( Spoilers) that Ed Harris was playing the Current version of Man in Black, and Jimmy Simpson was the younger version of Man in Black , William. That they were the same character.
And that's because the first season was actually beautifully crafted. Including one scene where Younger William enters the park for the first time, and debated choosing a Black or White cowboy hat. This is a simple storytelling device, character is nice, naive, believes in the good in the world, circumstances makes him lose that humanity. Then it made sense for William to be MIB, wearing the black cowboy hat. But until you saw the entire series it could be brushed off. But once you saw it, it made so much sense.
This is during the height of GOT, Star Wars when speculation and the need for twists and turns were paramount. Felt like you needed to outsmart the viewers if you want to be a good showrunner.
During that time, Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy have an interview to an audience, which they said things in a joking manner. But in the age of digital social media, things go fast. Especially if it's only a text blurb and people didn't see the actual clip
Tumblr media
Turns out to be a tongue in cheek joke. But the damage was done and it spread everywhere.
They also decided to do a prank to reveal the all the spoilers of season 2, turns out they made a rickroll video to Redditors as a light-hearted joke.
With that said, season 2 started but there was a lot of thing that seemed off in the show, it started to get even more conveluted.
Multiple spanning timelines. The show also started to get more and more philosophical. Because the show is about Robots ( Hosts) , you never know if a character is a robot as well. So that could feel like a cheap gimmick.
Also it's not only focused on Westworld anymore, it spanned outside to the real world , making a show called Westworld...not Westworld ( even though the Old Westworld movie had multiple theme park sections as well)
I also worked in Marketing, I also want to take the hunch, that General Audience ( Not the hardcore Human Philosopher/ai/spirit/High Art viewer ) wanted to just watch Robots vs Humans and the drama surrounding that, not get too deep in the human subconscious.
But the showrunners made it felt they added twists and turns so much, maybe to outsmart said Redditors? ( As I said, joke or not right?) That the general audience started to be confused and lost interest
The show then went from season 1 with a staggering of 12 million viewers, to season 4 measly few million. And this is HBO rolling the red carpet for Nolan and Joy.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I feel, if you're a showrunner, you need to be careful because anything you say will be dissected and spread like wildfire, and sometimes written articles don't convey tone, especially if it's a joke, that click bait newest and even well known journals can run with. This you can clearly see if you are part of the Marvel fandom.
All of this is sad because Westworld season 1 was so beautifully crafted and written. But because of all of this, as a viewer, you're left wondering if Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy were genuinely trying to craft a twist because the story needed it, or done it for the shock and confuse viewers even more.
Nerdwriter went more in details on it's fall.
This is why I am a bit worried about the TV Fallout Series because they are the executive producers and also Nolan directed some episodes.
This is also why there is so many similar vibes to Westworld, especially MIB to The Ghoul, Dolores Abernathy to Lucy Maclean and so on as I posted on my Tumblr
Both Fallout and Westworld had the gaming aspect where your character could choose to be good, mid , or evil. As Westworld, humans can go in to just explore an enchanting Western theme park, but some are deviants and they go there to unleash their deepest desires.
The only hope I have is that Fall Out is a franchise, they have rules and lore.
Then again Star Wars had rules and lore but they retconned and brought back dead characters just for reusing legacy characters to make more money...
So yeah just my two cents 🥴

A CRAFTY PERSON WHO COMMITS MINOR CRIMES, DEFTLY EVADES OBSTACLES AND THE LAW, IS CONSTANTLY COMING UP WITH WAYS TO GET OUT OF DIFFICULT SITUATIONS CAUSED BY RECKLESS ADVENTURES AND THE IMPULSIVE (ALSO CONSTANT) NEED TO HAVE A GOOD TIME. we hope you can entertain the guests!

BIOGRAPHY.
programmed originally to be the child of one of the working families on the ranch, reprogrammed later after several accidents in which his parents, him, and/or the ranch was wiped out and he was given a new narrative in the current storyline which has been consistent several years or more now.
born to a poor family, bash doesn't remember either of his parents very well. he was sold to the ranch at a young age to pay off a debt where they raised him up to work for them.
bash wasn't too keen on sticking around the ranch as he got older, not a fan of the constant monotonous work day in and day out even though they provided decent food and shelter.
at a young age he ran off and ended up on the streets of sweetwater, doing whatever he could to survive day to day by pickpocketing guests and residents and committing other petty crimes.
he was taken under the wing of an outlaw who is the closest thing to a parent he's ever known and is incredibly loyal to them
they have a close friendship with another pickpocket who they grew up with and have remained best friends with as long as they can remember.
QUICK CONNECTIONS.
friends, they can be hosts, employees, guests you name it
crushes and people he flirts with
people who've caught him or turned him in for stealing
those he's stole from
regular guests who like to go on adventures
those he annoys for the fun of it all
rivals either in law or crime or personality
HEADCANONS.
is best friends with the other pickpocket josie, they spent a lot of years together and often work together to bring in more loot - they have a special spot they meet up if they ever get seperated
when he first got to the ranch it was matteo hernandez that took it upon himself to look after him in an effort to give him some stability, later lux joined in - after he died and lux disappeared, bash ran off, unwilling to stay there on his own and not knowing how to process the emotions that came with those events
has a special place he meets up with lux as often as they can
doesn't like to sleep alone and is scared of the dark but he'd never admit either out loud

A dark odyssey about the dawn of artificial consciousness and the question of free will, WESTWORLD was created for television by Jonathan Nolan & Lisa Joy, who also served as executive producers.    WESTWORLD: Season 2 - Music From The HBO Series features 29 tracks comprising the most powerful musical moments of Season 2. The album includes composer Ramin Djawadi’s iconic WESTWORLD theme, his original compositions from the show and his renowned versions of popular songs created for the show including two different versions of “Heart-Shaped Box” (originally performed by Nirvana), “C.R.E.A.M.” (originally performed by Wu-Tang Clan), “Seven Nation Army” (originally performed by The White Stripes), “Codex” (originally performed by Radiohead), “The Entertainer” (originally performed by Scott Joplin) and “Paint It, Black” (originally performed by The Rolling Stones) - which is a different version than the version of “Paint It, Black” that lives on Djawadi’s WESTWORLD: Season 1 - Music from the HBO Series soundtrack album.    “As WESTWORLD came together, Lisa and I knew that we wanted to take enormous risks with the narrative of the show, tossing the audience into the deep end with our story,” explains Executive Producer Jonathan Nolan. “And we were able to take those risks, knowing that, in addition to our incredible cast, we were collaborating with Ramin Djawadi, an artist whose ability to translate even the most nuanced narrative idea into music is peerless.”     “It’s been a true pleasure to see fans of WESTWORLD connect with both the piano covers and original compositions used in the series,” says Djawadi.
WESTWORLD: SEASON 2 – Music from the HBO Series 3XLP. Music by Ramin Djawadi. Art by Greg Ruth. Layout by Alan Hynes. Concept and Art Direction by Spencer Hickman. Pressed on 3x 140 Mondo Exclusive Vinyl. Estimated Shipping December 2023. Ships to US Only. $60

(1/4) I just found your podcast recently, and I've been binging the episodes over the past couple of days. I'm sure you've heard this a lot but it really is incredible to find a podcast where people are talking about fanfiction and fan media as art forms that can be taken seriously, with it's own traditions and conventions separate from published fiction. Especially when it's people clearly having fun doing it! In the episode where you talk about perspective, I found it really interesting when
Continued:
you mentioned second person being associated with romance. It’s definitely the same for me with music, but I found it interesting because in writing the first genre that comes to mind in association with second person is psychological horror. And in a bit of a self-examination of why that is, I realize that I’ve read multiple stories, both fics and original, where second person is used in cases where the story is in the perspective of someone who has very little or no sense of self, and whether the author is doing consciously or not the perspective of “you” is serving to show that character does not think of themselves as an “I”. This probably reveals something about myself, but in my experience this is usually in horror or horror-adjacent stories where the character is tortured or psychologically conditioned to the point of not thinking of themselves as a person, or in some cases where the perspective character is a non-sapient entity (though in that case I find it more common to use a name in place of pronouns, mostly thinking in cases form the perspective of pets) or in less horrific story examples a character is non-human and learns they were a person all along through the course of the story. (I very much love stories where a robot/AI/android/spirit that should theoretically have no self-awareness or emotions discovers SURPRISE they have ALL the emotions).
Thanks for listening to the podcast! When I read this ask earlier today, I was struck by the realization that the podcast is very much shaped by the personal tastes and habits of Jo (@pebblysand) and I (@copper-dust.) Neither of us read very much horror of the kind that involves torture, or much science fiction that involves aliens/androids. For that reason, we probably didn't consider that 2nd person POV is definitely used in cases where the 2nd person is intentionally used to reveal something about the depersonalized, dehumanized or nonhuman nature of the character.
The first thing that comes to mind, for me, is the TV show Westworld. The human-like robots are often spoken to by their programmer as though he's a psychoanalyst, when in fact, he's trying to find out what's wrong with their programming (AKA why they are acting like human beings with complete memories and personal autonomy) and fix it.
But yes, you are definitely right that 2nd person has uses outside song lyrics and romantic POV stories! Thanks for the really insightful comment.

Seeing as great shows are being cancelled right and left, I often wonder if DW is really so good that it is being supported? Or it is just an old useless relict that is continued from pity and nostalgia of its fans?
This is a fascinating question and requires a long answer. Thank you, anon! I truly love these kinds of questions.
First, I'm not going to grant the premises that the opposite of "so good" is "old, useless relic" nor that relics or nostalgia require pity to be enjoyed. Also a note on 'relic': it means an object that is sacred to a religion, usually a body part of a holy person or ephemera from that person's life, it has evolved to also have a pejorative meaning that something is outdated and obsolete. I mention this because I think it's an interesting word choice and it will be relevant in a moment.
Secondly, there are a few assumptions in these questions that I think will make the answer very subjective and incomplete: the assumption that the cancellation of "great shows" is ubiquitous in the entertainment industry and not specific to a few tv channels and streaming services, the assumption that quality has more to do with cancellations than revenue, and the assumption that "useless" is an antonym for "entertaining."
So my answer is yes, all of the above. The full answer is below the break.
I warned you that this wouldn't be short. I am not British and I don't work for the BBC so I cannot isolate any recently cancelled BBC series with which to compare Doctor Who. I don't want to compare HBO's (parent company Discovery) recent cancellations of series like Westworld with DW because the choices Discovery is making are confusing and seemingly random at this point. Additionally, DW was cancelled in 1989. New Who (NuWho) is the colloquialism for the reboot of the series in 2005. DW originally aired in 1963 and was a staple of British television for more than 30 years. The reboot was definitely a result of nostalgia as filmmakers and creators who grew up with the Doctor came of age. So, yes, a part of NuWho is always going to be nostalgia (even the visual effects which I won't go into here).
Now for the pejoratives "relic" and "pity." In film studies we are taught that there can be a barren wasteland between a film/series that is considered Film (capital F) for it's formal qualities (see my other posts on film studies or send me an ask if that interests you) and a film/series that is purely entertaining. I'm not going to use opinion words such as good or bad because those are quite meaningless in film studies. However, anon asked about great or useless, and unintentionally pointed out a paradox in art history: much of what is great art is entirely useless. Is honoring a relic useless? In most religions which have relics, they are venerated and displayed in grand reliquaries. Does this performance and display give something back to the participant, some spiritual component? Yes and it does not detract from the beauty or "greatness" of the object. In this sense a relic would be great and useful. If we assume that Doctor Who is nostalgic for its creators/viewers then perhaps we can also assume that viewing it as a relic can provide an insight into the comfort it gives. NuWho follows the tradition of the first run as a family friendly comedy with very serious moments and lessons. I have discussed before how "our doctor" can be an emotional attachment. Similarly, DW provides a comfort for viewers in new episodes with a familiar style as well as in the rewatching of favorite episodes. Do the silliness or the odd visual effects make DW any less "great" than other series? It would seem that anon thinks so but I'm not sure. I don't have enough space to discuss "greatness" here.
Lastly, I will correlate Doctor Who with Star Trek as it is the closest in length and nostalgia across the pond. Star Trek began in 1966 and, in some incarnation or other, is still on the air. I chose this series not just for longevity but it has a global fan base, requires interesting (and innovative) visual effects, and is technically a relic based on anon's question. Trekkies would never be accused of having pity for Star Trek. Whovians do not have pity for Doctor Who. More casual fans from each fandom may also feel the same nostalgia but perhaps only watch either series because of nostalgia. So how would either relic continue to stay on the air if the only motivation were pity, how would that be viable? It wouldn't. Money keeps most series in production.
BBC doesn't release much of its revenue information based on individual series but when the DW 50th Anniversary Special went to theaters in 2013 we got a glimpse of how much money this series earns. "For the year ending in March [2013], U.S. revenues [for the BBC] reached $550 million, a significant portion of its $1.8 billion in global annual sales." (source) That was 10 years ago. Star Trek, continuing the comparison, also includes box office numbers in revenue and has many feature length films in its universe so the number is difficult to pinpoint. However, in 2013 Star Trek was included in a report of entertainment properties that surpassed $100 million in licensed merchandise sales alone (source). That year CBS (owner of Star Trek) reported $124 million in revenue. This does not include any box office revenue from Star Trek: Into Darkness (2013) or ad revenue from the on-air series. Worldwide, Into Darkness earned approximately $467 million that year (source), the highest grossing film of the entire franchise.
I hate maths but here's your answer anon: in 2013 BBC reported $1.8 billion in global sales, not all because of Doctor Who of course, but the box office alone of the 50th Anniversary Special's first weekend was around $10 million and for some perspective it only ran in about 650 theaters in the US, it is a tv show after all and many people watched from home (source). So let's use the definitive number of $550 million for the BBC in the US alone from 2013 and compare that to the Star Trek film release of the same year and total licensed merchandise sales - $591 million. Those numbers are remarkably close. (And I would like to add that was a good year for casting as well - Matt Smith, David Tennant, and John Hurt in the 50th and Benedict Cumberbatch, Chris Pine, and Zoe Saldaña in Into Darkness.) Using an online inflation calculator $591 million in 2013 would be around $755 million in 2022.
tl;dr - Nostalgia is revenue not pity.

tagged by @sheirukitriesfandom
Thanks for tagging, I like things like this :)
Favorite color: Nile Blue =) Various shades of teal, actually. Green as well.
Currently reading: Evermeet Island of elves by Elaine Cunningham. I’m tryin to get back to regular reading now. Haven’t read much this year, haven’t neeb reading at all recently, that saddens me.
Last Series: sorry I don’t understand whether it’s book series or TV shows (eberyone seem so fond of TV shows these days)... Everyone is writing about book series, so... House of the Serpents by Lisa Smedman in 2020 when I had that Forgotten Realms yuan-ti brainrot. And I kinda liked those books.
As for shows, if you ask, I watched season 3 of Westworld, also somewhere in 2020... That’s all. In the past, I used to watch cartoon series, even was in My Little Pony fandom, cosplayed and attended bronycons. I also enjoyed Steven Universe. But I hardly watch any movies now, and no series at all... And I was never a fan of live action adult TV shows, making rare occasional exceprions. Tried starting Arcane once, but didn’t go past the first episode.
Last movie in the theater: Onward, spring 2020. I’ve been a huge Pixar fan since my early teens, so I don’t miss their new movies, usually rewatch them more than one time...
Then there were all those lockdowns, then I realised prefered watching movies at home.
Currently working on: I always have an art plans list and try following it.

Thanks for the tag, @duran-duran-less-official
Last Song: I just queued up Something, Something in the Way and Something in the Way She Moves for some reason.
Last Movie: Uh... Lightyear. I have one of those cinema passes so I largely see every big release, but not a big fan of this one (albeit I know it's a kid's film so I won't hold that against it). Sadly Andy just didn't have good taste in movies.
Currently Watching: Everything. I was catching up with Better Call Saul when Ms Marvel and The Boys and Westworld dropped so now I'm all over the place. Just finished Obi-Wan Kenobi and the latest series of Taskmaster.
Currently Reading: I'm between books at the minute. I read 11 novels from January to June, which is usually the amount I read over the whole year, and I've sort of run out of ideas for the moment. I've been promised Scythe by Neal Shusterman and The Starless Sea by Erin Morgenstern at some point.
Currently Listening To: I'm a shuffle guy, but probably the last thing I made an effort to listen to was the Westworld soundtrack to hype me up. Going to see Adele today though, so there's been a bit of rehearsal for that as well.
Current Obsession: Busy with work and house work, but I've also been uncharacteristically out and about - art exhibition yesterday, festival today, theatre tomorrow. I promise I'm usually an unsophisticated house gremlin.
I don't know very many of you nowadays, but tagging @stormhornets @musashi1596 @tylandlannister who are kind enough to occasionally interact with me.
