Chris McCarrell deciding to portray Percy Jackson in the musical as having "flecks of gay" is absolutely perfect to me, and makes a lot of sense with Percy himself for me. Having some form of portrayal of "unrealised queer 12 year old with almost no friends" in The Percy Jackson himself will never not be appreciated and cherished. Yes, he wasn't actually shown to be queer (because that isn't exactly part of TLT's story) but it still hits home- especially given the main themes of the musical, that being different or an outcast is okay and finding communities like you, that support you, helps you know that you're not truly alone. Real thanks to Chris McCarrell and the Lightning Thief crew here because it genuinely does mean a lot, and I'm so glad more people will get / have gotten to watch the musical with Percy truly being the hero they needed growing up too ;)
