Well now I’m stuck with my writing again, because I’ve finally been forced to address my complete lack of knowledge on what ruling monarchs actually do. I can’t keep making vague statements about paperwork and committees and shit like that, because that exposes me as both lazy and ignorant.

The tricky part is, the Mushroom Kingdom (or at least my interpretation of it) isn’t quite an absolute monarchy — there’s a Parliament and shit like that. But Peach is a ruling queen rather than a reigning queen; for all the checks and balances that may or may not exist, everything at the end of the day rests on her say-so. I’m not sure if such a form of government actually exists or existed at any point in time, meaning that I have to learn about both historical AND modern monarchies if I want to make my content anything resembling realistic, but I have absolutely no idea where to start, because I am Dumb and American and Bad at Research.

So either I accept that I’ll have one more piece that’s very vague and blatantly half-assed in its presentation of politics, or I’ll be forced to go on hiatus again until I’m more knowledgeable, and I don’t want to go on hiatus, but I also don’t want to put out absolute garbage either…

How… does a writer choose which story to begin with??

I have so, SO many ideas turning in slow circles, microwaving in my brain… and I want to give each idea the best effort I possibly can.

However… I know my first book will likely be cringe. Should I force myself to write an idea I’m not particularly raving about… or conquer my most complicated plot to get it out of the way?

Do I choose a fun story, one I know doesn't have very sensible worldbuilding, and just go ham? Or do I try my hand with plots that have hidden meanings and deeper values?
