#what does kagome decide to do

Note
Sid, why do you think people think Kagome is “so annoying” and “whiny?” How exactly did she earn this reputation among her (rather dumb) haters.
The world is not kind to 15 years old girls, and what is Kagome, if not the perfect representation of one?
Tumblr media
People forgot they can dislike a character just because and then move on. They'd rather grasp at straws to try and justify themselves, that way they can pretend they're being rational about the constant hate they're spreading when, truthfully, they're just being miserable.
Kagome specifically is in even greater disadvantage because her critics are, mostly, people who haven't read the source material and are instead basing their takes on a biased adaptation – which they probably watched ages before developping any critical skills – or people who see her as a threat to their ship and therefore are already prone to hate her.
The first group won't ever bother going out of their way to try and get a better grasp of her character by reading a 558 chapters long manga and the second group won't change their minds either way.
That's why they call her out for using the beads of subjugation even if: it wasn't her idea in the first place, it served to balance her relationship with Inuyasha at the beginning – since he was powerful and violent while she wasn't –, the rosary became a symbol of their bond, it saved Inuyasha a couple of times and he was always more annoyed than hurt by it, not to mention Sunrise blowing it out of proportion compared to the manga.
You never see Inuyasha getting bashed for hitting Shippo every other episode or Sango getting any heat for constantly slapping Miroku, because funnily enough people seem to understand it was just dumb, outdated, slapstick comedy, a courtesy they refuse to extend to Kagome.
Tumblr media
That's also the reason they call her “annoying” and “whiny”: Kagome’s most important lesson was that it's okay to have feelings, so naturally they twisted that into a bad thing in order to keep hating on her. It's not about how her character was written, it's about people using of bad faith and deliberately mischaracterizing Kagome to pass their internalized misogyny as valid criticism.
I know part of the issue is that audiences nowadays are under the impression that for a female character to be strong, she can't cry or be feminine, but you don't see anyone hating on Sango even though she does cry and she can be as feminine as Kagome depending on the circunstances and on her mood.
Tumblr media
The truth is that Kagome is playing a game she can never win, because the refs have decided they want her to lose before the match even starts.
If she stands up and sets boundaries for herself, she's annoying. If she doesn't, she's a doormat. If she feels jealousy, she's a bitch. If she shows kindness, she's boring. If she fights, she's overpowered. If she doesn't, she's useless. If any other character cries, it's heartbreaking. If she cries, she's whiny.
If she goes back to her own world, she's selfish. If she leaves that world behind to live the life she wants for herself, she's a stupid girl who left her family for a boy. If she does something grand, that's only because she's someone else's reincarnation. If she messes something up, the fault is hers and hers alone. She is, somehow, simultaneously a Mary Sue and a toxic abuser.
I've personally seen people slut shaming her because she got hitted on by Koga. I've personally seen people call her a "pick me" girl. Kagome. A pick me girl. Kagome.
Tumblr media
And none of this is fair, because she is the kind of character who does her best to see the good in others, to understand the reasons why they act the way they do and to offer them some grace, but she gets very little of that in return, be it in canon, be it in fandom.
They always hold her up to such an impossible standard, but they completely forget to ask themselves: would the characters I stan be able to match the expectations I set for Kagome? Scratch that: would the characters I stan even be able to deal with things the way Kagome managed to do? Would I? The answer is most likely no, so how about cutting her a slack?
You ask me how did she earn this reputation among her rather dumb haters, my answer is: she didn't. They're just incapable of understanding that if a particular nuanced, well written, female character is not their cup of tea, they can simply ignore her and focus their attention on the characters they do like instead of spreading their baseless, misogynistic takes on the internet.

ZUTARA...
Okay, so my thoughts...
Tumblr media
Look, I'm an OG fan. I was a teenager when the animated show came out and boy oh boy...
Okay, so yes, I am a Zutara shipper. I have been since the show aired, and the way the show ended with Aang and Katara left an icky taste in my mouth. I'm not anti Kataang either. It just gives me... eew. Especially now that I'm an adult and I know relationships are messy to begin with. I don't agree that the show creators think that Zutara would be toxic... that is not necessarily true as Zuko's character doesn't support such a thing and neither does Katara's. Aang is still a child mentally and he doesn't seem to understand that people are going to do what they are going to do. Case and point, The Southern Raiders. Aang confronts Katara telling her that she should let it go and forgive Yon Rah... the only problem with this is that Katara needs to deal with her own closer. Forgiveness does not mean closure. Take it from me, a person who has difficulty letting go of hurts from the past. Some things I can forgive, while other things I can't because they are still a problem for me today, which is why I'm in therapy. It is not up to Aang to decide what Katara needs to do in that moment. If anything, he is showing his complete misunderstanding of her resolve. She is angry, hurt, and compulsive. She is feeling these things because her past has been thrown in her face by Zuko's presence. Because he is there, all that hurt is like a thousand daggers in her back. Zuko is letting her do. He is letting her feel, and for those who say he is encouraging her to murder someone, that isn't what is going on. He is basically letting her do what she needs to do. When someone is feeling that way, you wither let them feel it and support them or you get out of the way. People are going to do what they want. It's a hard lesson to learn.
Aang has his world view of peace and compassion, which is not a bad thing, but he lacks understanding. Probably because he is still a child and still learning the ways of people. People are cruel and sometimes unforgiving, but we can also be kind, loving, and filled with hope. Aang sees the good in everyone, except Ozai, which I'm pretty sure the only thing good about Ozai is the fact that Mark Hamil is behind his voice. But anyway, I like Aang. He's a good character that transforms everyone he interacts with. That is the best quality about him. The absolute worst of his qualities is that he tends to push his beliefs into the open without taking a moment to think about how others feel. And that isn't even that bad. It's a disregard of those emotions that leave a little bit of bitterness in my mouth. But that is something everyone struggles with at one point. That is just being human.
But yeah, this is just my humble opinion. Relationships are messy and they need work. They arent always going to be perfect, which is why neither ship is going to be better than the other. Does Aang and Katara have a happy marriage? Well, I can't say that they do because there isn't much to go on other than they have children. I'd like to think they have their ups and downs like most relationships do.
Would Zuko and Katara have a good relationship? Going off of their character I'd say they would balance each other out. It won't be toxic because they do fine when they are together in the show. They work well as a team and have each other's backs. So yeah, that is there in the show.
I'd also like to point out that Zuko and Mai don't tick the boxes for outstanding relationship. Those two have been on and off and I honestly don't think they will get back together. Kinda reminds me of the guy I was on and off with for five years... now that was toxic.
But yeah. I've done the shipping thing for so long it doesn't matter if it's Canon or not. Like I seriously shipped Sesshomaru and Kagome for years even though I knew she and Inuyasha were going to be together. Didn't care too much for Sess/Rin because again... eew. You ship who you want and what you feel makes sense. Does this mean people have to berate others about it? No. There should never be any condescension or degrading because we are all fans.
But for real... I think Azula and Sokka should get together. And I'm not on the Taang ship either.
Tumblr media
Fight me... I dare you.

Hi, do you have some recommendations for the "inukag as cat/dog parents" or maybe one of them as adoptive parents of a stray animal? Thank you so much! 😊😊
Hey @chit-a-to ! We love seeing our dog-boy as a cat-mom (or dog, or horse) so thank you for this ask! We hope you enjoy this list of predominantly -- but not exclusively-- modern AU's from across the ratings spectrum, so please do check individual fics for additional tags.

giving proper thought to the timeskip in inuyasha (part 1/2)
I've been thinking a lot about the three years Inuyasha and Kagome were apart, bc as you know... three years is a LONG time. The person I was three years ago is different from the person I am now. So I remember thinking it felt too fast to process (both anime and manga), bc the timeskip was sorta sped through in like a chapter/10 mins lol
How were Kagome and Inuyasha feeling during those three years? After being with each other practically 24/7, fighting a literal war, saving each other's lives, falling in love, Kagome almost trapped in the jewel... just to be wrenched apart at the end with no time to say goodbye. Jeez, that's practically trauma fuel.
There was no way Kagome didn't want to see Inuyasha again. So why did it take three years for the Well open for her?
part 1: kagome part 2: inuyasha
+
Kagome said when she returned, her purpose in the Sengoku era, to destroy the jewel, was done.
There is no reason to go back now. Well is closed. Bye Inuyasha.
Three years. Three years is enough time to be sad, to heal, and to think. I can imagine Kagome being a little down sometimes and her family noticing that. From how much she loved Inuyasha, I don't think Kagome could hide that she misses that doggie boi on the other side of the well. Because her family cares so much for her, I'm sure it didn't make them happy to see her sad.
However, it seemed pretty convincing that she couldn't go back. So it probably felt like a helpless situation to all of them.
Now, that doesn't explain why the well suddenly opened for Kagome one day. After all, it seemed like Kagome just willed the well to open... and there had to have been a time where she wanted to see Inuyasha, right? So why couldn't it open before?
I could just chalk it off as "the Well wanting Kagome to meet the legal age to marry Inuyasha" lol. That's valid enough I guess.
But, I want to bulk that justification up a little more... so here's what I think:
The Well was testing Kagome's desire to see Inuyasha again. Her job to destroy the Jewel is done, so it sealed itself up real good, forcing Kagome to focus on her life back home, go to school, meet new people, and weigh all her options for her future. If she STILL wants to see Inuyasha after all of that, then she will have proven herself to the Well that her desire to see him and go back to that era is genuine, not just some whim of the wind. (The Well isn't some plaything.)
In the meantime, the Well is adamant. Until then, it is sealed. I'm sure Kagome visited it many times, wishing to see Inuyasha. But she knows very well by her third year that the Well does not work.
When I think about it, after high school is when Kagome's life truly starts. That is when she gets to decide for the first time, for herself, what she might want to do with her life going forward.
To prepare for that, Kagome gets to weigh her options in high school about her future. In Japan, I think 1st-2nd year is when they start "university planning" called 進路希望調査 (shinro kibou chousa). 3rd year is when they take entrance exams. The closer she creeps to graduation, the more she is forced to think about her future.
That future without Inuyasha. Can she live in it?
When she graduates, she faces herself head on. "Look, I have to live in this world without Inuyasha. The well is BROKEN af. This is it." But she realizes, even still... EVEN STILL... gosh she just wants to see Inuyasha again. :(
In that moment, she proved herself to the Well. Kagome thought about this for three darn years. She went to school, stayed with friends and family, and she knows her options. Yet, her feelings for Inuyasha did not waver. She STILL wants to see him, thus proving that her desire is not superficial.
So finally, the Well's like, "Alright, I hear you now hunny. I'll open the portal."
When the Sengoku era sky appears in the Well, Kagome looks at it with such yearning eyes, her voice wavering with such longing... Her mom finds her, and knowing Mama, she probably has had a hunch all along that Kagome's happiness is not here in the modern era.
Tumblr media
So in a true act of love, Mama lets her go.
GAWD MAMA HIGURASHI MVP MOM OF THE CENTURY I WANT TO GIVE YOU A HUGGGG
Thinking about Kagome's family always makes my heart break, seriously. Though, the timeskip feels sudden to me as a reader/watcher, but three years is still quite a bit of time. (Like, imagine from now, 2023 to 2026.) They had time together... I'm sure it was understood. It still must've been hard tho.
This got too long, so I'll explore Inuyasha's side in Part 2. -> I will link here if you want!

Indulging myself in writing a little retelling of Inuyasha, so I wanted to share it with you. 💕
“Uh, hello there?” She called out and when he didn’t move, she decided to climb up to make sure he wasn’t injured. As she grew closer, the warm sensation from before came back, making her stop and look around for that frightening monster. When the area remained silent, the only sound was the gentle rustle of the leaves. She moved to step over the last root, coming just inches away with the man’s face, except he wasn’t a man at all. Not the kind she was used to at least.
Sure, there were plenty of cosplayers back home and people were constantly changing their appearance with the different trends each year, but none looked like him. He looks so peaceful. Raising her hand, she traced his features, her fingertips trailing his sharp nose and jaw. His brows were dark, with matching lashes that fanned across his cheeks and she briefly wondered what his eyes looked like.
Brushing his bangs aside, she admired how soft his silver hair was, pausing to look closer at two small ears standing at the top of his head. Reminding her a bit of Buyo, she stroked the velvety fur, almost falling from her perch when a soft voice spoke.
He is to you, as you are to him.
Gripping the sleeping man’s red robe and leaning into him, she gazed around the clearing, afraid she had gotten caught. When no one appeared, she straightened herself, nervously laughing at her paranoia when she noticed a single arrow protruding from his chest, exactly where his heart would be. Looking back at the man’s face, she wondered who he was.
Inuyasha.
“Is that his name?” She whispered, when suddenly an arrow whipped past her head, grazing her cheek as it embedded itself in the trunk. Touching her cheek, she hissed at the slight sting. What the? Male voices yelled out and when she whirled around and positioned herself in front of Inuyasha, she was met with fierce gazes.
“You there, get down girl!” A tall man with dark hair hollered. She assumed he was the leader and suddenly, she was very afraid. I’m alone, in a strange forest with men pointing their weapons at me. Swallowing, she stood her ground, ready to defend herself and the man behind her. Noticing a few holding bow and arrows, she wondered if she could take one of them down and use it to defend herself.
“Child, what are ye doing up there?” An older woman, wearing a white and red robe that she usually wore during festivals at the shrine, appeared, the men parting to let her through. She must be the one in charge. Noticing the black eye patch covering her right eye and her weapon, she wondered if this priestess was some type of warrior princess. Hopefully she wouldn’t let these men hurt her. “Come down, we will not harm ye anymore than the hanyou would.” Hanyou?
Kagome nodded, carefully scooting down the roots, giving Inuyasha one last glance at Inuyasha and stopped right in front of the woman. She observed Kagome, using her good eye to take in Kagome’s appearance and when she frowned, Kagome grew worried.
“Kikyo?” she whispered.
Shaking her head, Kagome corrected her, “No, my name is Kagome.”
“I am Kaede. Would ye mind telling me what ye were doing up there?” She nodded, pointing her chin in the tree’s direction.
“I was searching for my way home when I came upon him.” She frowned, glancing up at him still sleeping peacefully against the tree. There’s something about him.
“Ah, well be careful child, he is not to be touched for he is dangerous.”
“What happened?” She asked, her heart reaching out to comfort him. Why am I so drawn to him? He is to you, as you are to him. What does that even mean? And who said it? Before Kaede could explain, the ground shook, a deep rumbling making her tremble. A familiar shriek filled the air and Kagome gasped as the men around her prepared themselves for a battle. Oh no, not again.
“Give me the Sacred Jewel!” The monster’s voice cried out, causing Kaede to look at her.
“Ye have the jewel!?”
“I don’t know what she’s talking about!” She called, the creature’s screaming overpowering her own. Suddenly, she was thrown off her feet, landing on her back as a large centipede emerged from the ground, its eyes glaring right at her. Help me!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
“Kagome, run!” Kaede yelled, releasing an arrow into the creature’s body. The body, half a woman, half a giant centipede, lunged at her, snatching her leg up in her teeth. Yelping at the pain as her calf was sliced open and as the centipede flung her across the clearing, she braced herself for the fall.
Landing right in front of the tree, she grimaced as blood seeped through the denim, a tear in her favorite. You can buy another pair. Get up! Her instincts called out to her, warning her of the danger and urging her to run to safety. When she glanced back to see a group of men fighting off the overgrown bug, she pushed through the pain and began to climb. Making it to the top of the roots, where Inuyasha’s feet hung, she was suddenly picked up by her waist and tossed into the air, a sharp pain in her side.
Looking down to see a small pink jewel emerge from her body, shimmering in the afternoon sunlight. Did that just come out of me? Wincing as she landed on the ground, she watched the jewel bounce and roll to a stop in front of her.
“The Sacred Jewel! It will be mine!” The centipede screamed, lunging straight for her. Grabbing the orb, Kagome rolled out of the way just as the monster attacked. Breathing heavily, she stood to her feet, gripping the jewel. All this over a gem?
Kaede rushed over, blocking her with her body and her bow aimed for the creature’s face.
“Kagome, ye must not let Mistress Centipede have the Jewel Of Four Souls.” She ordered, firing the arrow into Mistress Centipede’s body, slicing off an arm in the process. Slipping the jewel in her front pocket, she noticed a discarded bow and quiver with three arrows to her left. Get to a high vantage point and shoot. Maybe that bright pink light will come back to help.
Ducking as the monster’s tail tried to knock her out, she grabbed the weapon and began to run back to the Sacred Tree, determined to take this thing down. As she made it to the top of the roots once again, she looked to see if Inuyasha was unharmed and froze when golden eyes glared right at her. Gold.
“You’re awake.” She breathed.
“You know, you shouldn’t play with bugs, Kikyo.” He sneered, his eyes flashing with hatred.
“Why you,” She growled, her temper rising, she gripped the bow tight as she stormed up to him, “My name isn’t Kikyo, it’s Kagome. Ka-Go-Me.”
He leaned forward, discreetly sniffing when his eyes widened and he gaped at her, all traces of anger and hate gone, muttering one word.
“Mate.” Huh?
Another scream from below had her whirling around, knocking an arrow and aiming, shooting the tail of the centipede as it almost took out two men. She had to focus on defeating whatever this thing was so she could home and this nightmare could end.
“Aim for the heart, Kagome.” Inuyasha suggested and the way he said her name calmed her heart. Nodding, she fired the second arrow, missing the heart by inches and slicing another arm off her body. The centipede hissed, spinning around to snarl at her. She was shoved back against Inuyasha’s body before she could grab her last arrow and she dropped her bow and quiver when the scaly body wrapped around the trunk. Gasping for air as pain rickotched through her body, Kagome gripped Inuyasha’s hiori tight.
“Kagome!” He ground out through clench teeth.
“Inuyasha, do something!” She called out, black spots filling her vision as Mistress Centipede squeezed her body tighter.
“Focus. Use the arrow next to my head and stab her in the heart! Only you can purify her!” He managed to say, his voice cracking at the pressure, but she could tell he was in pain all the same. Spotting the arrow he talked about, she managed to wiggle her right arm free just enough to reach and pull the weapon out of the bark.
The centipede’s human body hovered above them, just out of arm’s reach. She needed something to bring the monster closer. An idea popped into her head and Kagome managed to free her other arm, removing the jewel from her pocket. Please, please let this work.
“What are you doing, stupid? She can’t have it!” Inuyasha yelled as the glowing orb caught the monster’s attention.
“The Sacred Jewel!” She gasped, grinning so wide, her bloodied fangs dripped onto Kagome’s shirt. She lunged forward and Kagome dodged just as her body got close enough, praying to whatever kami to bring her strength and stabbed Mistress Centipede in the heart.
A bright flash engulfed them and the centipede’s body turned to dust as her bones littered the ground below. Taking a shuddering breath when she was no longer pinned, Kagome sank to her knees, still holding the arrow and the jewel tight. All was silent for a second, when Kaede and the men surrounded the tree.
“He’s awake!” One man gasped, holding a wounded another on his arm, pointing right at Inuyasha. Tension grew as abled bodied men raised their weapons, aiming their way.
“She must be a witch!”
“Dark priestess!”
“He must not get free!”
“He will destroy the village!”
Their voices grew louder and Kagome huddled against Inuyasha’s legs, whimpering. She was tired, her body hurt and all she wanted to do was go home. They defeated the monster, couldn’t they let me live?
“Don’t you touch her!” Inuyasha roared, and when she looked up at him, his eyes were seeping with red as purple stripes began to form along his cheekbones, his growl deep in his throat. What is happening?
“Child, slowly come down. We will not hurt ye, but that demon is dangerous, despite his innocence.” Kaede ordered, keeping her eye on Inuyasha. Demon? Unsure of what to do, the little voice from earlier whispered in her ear.
He will not harm you, for you are his.
Slowly standing, she dropped the arrow and slipped the jewel back into her pocket, staring out at the group.
“Kagome?” Inuyasha growled softly and she reached her hand back, intertwining her fingers with his own.
“He won’t harm me.”
Kaede stepped forward, calling out for her when Inuyasha growled once more, making sure she kept her distance. When she stopped, Kagome nodded, turning to look him in the eyes. What she saw made her confident in her decision.
“How do I free you?” She asked softly.
“Uh, Kikyo pinned me to the this fucking tree with her arrow. Try pulling it out.” He squeezed her hand gently, his marks fading as his eyes returned to their previous shade. Nodding, she reached up, gripping the arrow tight and closed her eyes. If I set him free, please don’t let them harm him. Kami, give me strength to do what is right.
Taking a deep breath, she began to tug, meeting a little resistance. She could hear the voices from below, murmuring between them. She could feel warmth radiating from Inuyasha’s body as his heart beat. Tu-thump, tu-thump.
The warm sensation that she was slowly becoming used to filled her body and she knew it was time. Opening her eyes, she saw the arrow was glowing a soft blue, much like the well earlier.
“It’s okay.” Inuyasha whispered, giving her hand another squeeze.
She nodded, pulling harder and when suddenly the arrow evaporated into thin air, releasing him from the tree. Smiling, she took a step back to allow him to move, missing her step. Feeling air underneath her feet, she began to fall backwards when red clad arms wrapped themselves around her waist and together, they both landed on the ground
The men scattered, giving them plenty of space and Inuyasha set her down on her feet, his hands still circling her body.. Kaede slowly approached, carefully watching them.
“Inuyasha, do ye still want to possess the jewel?”
“I didn’t do it.” He whispered.
“I know, but you need to let Kagome go.”
“She is my mate and I will not hurt her.” He snarled, his grip tightening and when she winced, he murmured an apology, gently nuzzling her hair.
“She is hurt, I can bandage her wounds if you would like.”
Inuyasha looked at her, silently asking if that was fine with her and Kagome nodded, smiling. Her energy was fading and she really needed to lie down. Maybe I’ll wake up and this will all be some weird dream.
“Very well,” Kaede turned, heading back to the village, beckoning them to follow. “We can discuss everything and ye can explain what just happened.”
“Why should I trust you, ya old hag?” Inuyasha asked, not moving just yet, eyeing the men still surrounding them.
“Because Kikyo was my sister and Naraku was the one to pit ye two against each other.” Kaede answered, looking at the two of them over her shoulder.
Kagome could tell he was intrigued, and tried to step out of his arms to follow her, her vision blurred. Gripping her head, she groaned, hearing Inuyasha and Kaede call out her name before blackness overtook her.
Sleeping Meme (Repost do not reblog)
Tumblr media
Type of bed: Akira sleeps on a regular twin bed.
Number of blankets: Just one during the fall and then it turns to two during the winter, even with the heater it can get really cold but he'd much prefer freezing his butt off in bed versus drowning in his own sweat during the summer.
Number of pillows: Just two pillows, one that's just a little sturdy and the other is soft.
Type of clothing: His clothes are simple, as a vigilante now he makes sure his clothes are incredibly unassuming but keeps a good color coordination. Usually consists in hoodies should he ever need to wear abruptly because someone decided to be 'thief' or violence escalates on the streets.
Does it matter where they sleep?: Before yes, but after serving a little time in the juvenile correction facility he's learned to adapt so now it doesn't matter where he sleeps.
What do they do when they can't fall asleep?: Listen to soothing music and if it's really bad he'd get to his workshop and start carving little wooden figures. He'd more often that not fall asleep at the desk. Not comfortable but he squeezes at least 4-5 hours that way.
Frequent dreams, and/or nightmares: Akira usually has nightmares about the abuse he's faced whilst being in holding for questioning, the incarceration and of course the emotional abandonment from his parents.
Deep slumber or naps?: A little of both but it's usually just naps.
When do they sleep?: If he's lucky he'd be able to sleep at 11PM, but the latest he's ever came back home from a night in the city is past midnight. But he's usually asleep by either 11:30 or 11:00.
What could wake them up?: Morgana the alarm at this point is just a signal for Morgana to be the one to wake him up.
  “Kagome isn’t here.”
   Sango smiled apologetically to Sesshomaru while Rin abandoned training to hug her hogosha.
That morning, with the children all stuffed into her hut for their warm ups again, Sango had decided it had been raining for long enough and ushered them out onto the dewy lawn.
From above, Shippou worked out his magic by providing them the coverage of a large canopy, though it looked like a large towel struggling to stay stretched out in the breeze. Sango had relieved him of his duty several times just for him to refuse, saying a village hero such as he could at least do this much.
Sesshomaru noticed the sweat that beaded down the child’s form as soon as it ran down his sleeves, interrupting his reunion. Sighing, he released his moko into the air and it swirled and swirled, startling the large towel with a bushy fox tail as it became a large cloud all its own, shading them all from the rain.
“Enough, Shippou.” He said, and it was.
Shippou released himself and fell to the earth unsteadily, his little paws holding him up still.
“Well done, Shippou!” Rin applauded him, walking over and patting his panting back. He looked at her and then at Sesshomaru, grinning shyly when even he nodded.
“Rin. Jaken is making your favorite dish.”
“Break-time!” Rin translated. She grabbed Shippo's hand but froze mid stride, now looking to her Master Sango.
Sango nodded, “You heard Lord Sesshomaru. Jaken is making everyone’s favorite dishes!” She smiled at her children standing at attention behind her, “You better hurry.”
The relief of children’s laughter filled the wet air, the sound of Slayer uniforms slapped the earth and Mokomoko followed the children to keep them dry. The rain fell on the adults again but they didn’t mind it. The rain was a refreshing blessing as well as natural conversation cover.
Rain, Rain, Go Away
Come again another day
Inside the Inn we will decay
And though the keeper will let us stay
It's been – and we want to play
Rain, Rain, Go Away
It was just something to pass the time, Kagome insisted to them. A phonetic rhyme that would help them keep track of time, if nothing else. But to the children it was a blessed chant from Priestess Kagome, a chant that if they sang loud enough it would make the rain go away. They sang it so much recently that Sango didn’t even notice the number of rainy days, she just knew the children were blessedly occupied with a suitable answer instead of asking her to teach them how to beat it up.
Sango stretched her arms and they both heard her bones popping graciously, “You hurry too. What if you catch a cold?” She walked toward the entrance of her home and kept the door open by invitation.
“This one does not get colds.” Sesshomaru followed after her calmly.
“You never know. Stranger things have happened.”
“Such as?”
“You, looking for Kagome.”
“This One is always looking for Kagome.”
“You’ve become such a romantic, Lord Sesshomaru! That nearly made my old heart skip a beat.”
“Old?” Sesshomaru raised his brow. He rested his swords against her door frame and took a seat at her low table, “even demons in my court would question your slow aging.”
“My Lord,” Sango guffawed, moving to another room with a screen dividing the view, “You are making me blush. May I remind you I am a married woman.”
After removing the armored guards of her uniform, she worked on the wet leather itself. Sesshomaru closed his eyes and listened to the rain, listened to all the patterns in the mud, the grass, the farmers footsteps. He sifted through the noises, searching for a particular Priestess’ heavy footfalls.
Reemerging refreshed, Sango set fire to her hearth and began preparing her favorite tea set, an adorable white and purple accented gift from The Lord of the West with his red, hexagonal crest glazed into plates and the handles built like gold clouds were whipped against the porcelain cups. The set had instantly become the main reason Sango entertained guests.
“Speaking of being the only married woman-”
“You did not speak of that.”
“Did you know I am the only married woman in the whole village?” Sango fixed, “Speaking of which-”
“This one is looking for Kagome.” Sesshomaru emphasized, as if to say it wasn’t his fault that she was the only one. Sango placed the tea set down and then sat herself with a mortar and pestle, grinding sweet smells into the air.
“She’s been so busy lately.” Sango sighed, “Everyone has been; Demon sightings are picking up in neighboring villages, Kaedae can only be in one place at a time, Kagome goes everywhere else. Miroku wrote that he and Inuyasha have been making more progress rebuilding east.” Sango stretched then, as though talking about everything worked out the knots, “More children want to be taught to be Slayers so I get to see Kohaku only briefly while he and Kirara drop off more to me and take the ones I’ve trained to study further in the mountains.”
The kettle whistled and Sesshomaru got up, to which Sango sighed in appreciation.
She lightly brushed her mixture into their cups and Sesshomaru poured in the hot water. Hers first and then his own.
“You are all busy.” Sango breathed in the steam, her eyes closed but one peeking open. “ Yet, I seem to always find you.”
She worked with children all day. She had three of her own.
So, Sango could tell when a little pout was forming and it was such a shame Kagome was missing it.
“Well, I mean, it’s not like Kagome to not want to be found, is it?” Sango mused. Sesshomaru, who had been lifting his own cup, paused. He hadn’t considered that.
Just because he could not locate her, didn’t mean she didn’t want to be located.
In fact, when did she ever stay away from Sesshomaru? Kagome didn’t even hide from him when she had good reason to.
“When was the last time you spoke?”
“Hmm… what the…” Sango squinted, staring hard into the empty space above to try and form the image of the last time she had seen Kagome. “Actually, It’s been weeks… has it been weeks?”
Sesshomaru knew she wasn’t asking him and the irritability of the unknown began to tense his form. So no one had answers, for this long?
“This one last saw her before the rain fell.” He supplied.
“Rain, rain go away…” Sango mumbled, her hand coming to rest on her chin in deep thought. If she concentrated, she could hear the children singing just that morning. Sesshomaru didn’t dare break her concentration.
“Come again another day, inside the inn I’d rather not stay, and the keeper would let me stay, but it's been… it's been 12 days and we want to play…”
They shared a look.
According to the children who sang songs and chants that Kagome taught them when they were bored, it had been raining for two weeks.
                                                           -
   For the past week, Kagome had been staying at an Inn. It wasn’t the largest or most lavish like Miroku preferred, nor as sparse as Inuyasha preferred. There were five rooms, an outdoor pool and an old Innkeeper who liked chatting in the mornings while they drank their tea and didn’t charge Kagome on account of her status. Graciously, Kagome offered to clean the rooms for the Innkeeper and bless it regularly, just in case her presence brought misfortune.
There was plenty of room for her goal; According to the Village Leader, women had been disappearing. Kagome had asked the Leader to keep him informed, but upon receiving no reply, Kagome let her gut instinct kick in. She only told Kaedae she’d be gone and hopped on the last cart of that night, napping amongst the hay and waking to an Ox licking her cheek, she and the farmer arriving at the inn.
Kagome huffed, the cool night air materializing puffs that lifted her bangs. While she was stuck, waiting, how many girls were being taken in by that orange, malicious energy that filled the sky? The one she noticed sipping tea with the Innkeeper while they chatted? The dawn that pooled across the sky like blood and tricked regular people into thinking it was a normal sunset?
They sat there in the evening, after Kagome finished cleaning the floors and the Innkeeper made sure the snack portion was doubled. They sat and Kagome smiled and traded pleasantries and hid her unease behind her teacup when the Innkeeper remarked they’d never seen such a beautiful sunset. Kagome lost sleep these past few nights just watching the Innkeeper, making sure it wasn’t the beginnings of hypnotism. But so far no change. Just she and the Innkeeper and the orange blood hiding a perfectly good sunset.
Again, she wished she had time to learn how to work with shinigami. Or time to train a messenger bird. What kind of Priestess didn’t travel with a companion? Even her bike would have sufficed.
Had she known it would take so long for another lead but she didn’t know because she always worked in groups, and in a good group like hers, everyone did their fair share. It never seemed like there was a moment's rest because someone or someone else was always gathering information.
But now, Kagome was all alone and there was all at once too much to do and nothing to do. Too much information to work with and none at all. The perfect time to take Intel but, Intel on what?
“Perfect time to invent e-mail.” She muttered into her cup.
“You’ve been grumbling since your arrival yesterday, dear.” said the Innkeeper. “Have I become such a poor companion?”
“Yesterday...? Oh! No! Not at all.” The truth sounded so unconvincing. Kagome cleared her throat, “It’s my fault really. I’m not working hard enough.”
So lax in fact that what felt like a week to her had only been a full day at the Inn.
“You’ve done nothing but work since you’ve been here, dear. This tea is the only way I’ve gotten you to take a breather.” The Innkeeper tapped their brass kettle and laughed, “You’ve left me no choice but to break out the good stuff in fact!”
The Innkeeper closed one eye and leaned into Kagome, peering into her personal space, “Are you sure you’re not a swindler? How old are these robes?”
Kagome jumped, her body moving almost against her will away from the Innkeeper’s hands and eyes and questions. Setting the tea aside, Kagome tucked her knees, turned to her host and bent at the waist.
“I’m sorry!”
Her youthful energy nearly knocked the Innkeeper backwards, “I promise I’m not swindling you and if you have been swindled before, specifically by a Monk wearing purple robes, I’m sorry for that as well!”
The Innkeeper blinked, “Ah-well, thank you. I haven’t been swindled by a purple robed Monk yet, Priestess, but I’ll be on the lookout from now on. Thank you.”
Kagome was so happy her face was shielded from view. Her embarrassment should only been seen by the nicely polished floorboards after all. Why did she react so strongly?
“Do you perhaps have any parchment and ink?”
The Innkeeper smiled, wide and perfect, “Ah, so that’s it. You’re missin’ your lover!”
Kagome sat ramrod straight with a blush that could match the sky and the Innkeeper guffawed, rising slowly and steadily and a little shakily from their seating cushion. Kagome could hear them behind her saying things about youth and young love. Kagome swore right then to take her shinigami training much more seriously.
                                                          -
   Night fell and Kagome was left alone with her bone white incense burner, parchment, ink, a slop of orange stars in the night sky and a freshly brewed pot of tea.
Would Sesshomaru know anything about this? He had become her encyclopedia on demonic tactics, trickery and horrors that befell sleepy villages that women disappeared from. Or would he be just as blind because he didn’t even know she was here? Was he waiting for her at home or had he come and gone to tend to more important matters?
She could write Sango, Sango slayed thousands of demons and had even begun record keeping but could Sango afford to leave? When Kagome left, it had just been them and Kaedae. Five days changed many things but not the distance it would take the boys to get back home to take up guard duty.
She wished Inuyasha were here.
She could send it to Jaken…
“Maybe I should ask Rin.” Kagome mused, figuring if she was going to think ridiculous things she may as well say ridiculous things. Then, only smart things would be left.
She put pen to paper and decided whichever name she wrote down would be the person she asked.
Dear Sesshomaru,
She blushed again. She never called him dear. Focus
I don’t know why I’m writing. It’s only been three nights but I miss you a lot so, maybe that’s it? Do I miss you?
Sighing, Kagome crossed that out and tried again.
Dearest Sesshomaru,
I miss you.
Sleep isn’t as restful and tea isn’t as sweet and, have you ever seen an orange sky? Not like the afternoon, we’ve had some of our best afternoons up there. Not like persimmons either. It's a strange, runny, bloody orange. I figured I’d ask you, being the blood expert. Let me know if I should’ve written Myoga instead.
I’m not very good at writing letters. I need your help.
Kagome held the parchment up to her red face, pursed her lips and inhaled. Then she placed the page face down, turned her face upwards and exhaled.
She hoped her words reached him.
                                      -----------------------------------
When Kagome woke up the next morning, it was groggily facing the window. She had only come to this inn yesterday, but she was so tired. No matter, the Innkeeper said she could have free lodgings if she helped prepare the rooms and Kagome was eager to get to work.
She cleaned all four rooms quietly to not disturb the Innkeeper, she blessed the grounds and then, a bath sounded nice.
She cleaned her room and the guest room quietly to not disturb the Innkeeper, she blessed the grounds and then…
Huh?
Kagome stopped cleaning the floorboards.
Why was she still at the Inn? The village was still up ahead.
Far off in the distance where she could see it touching the blood orange sky she definitely saw a village.
She definitely saw it.
If she just turned around and looked it would be there still and she could put one foot in front of the other without bidding a proper farewell to the Innkeeper and continue on her mission.
But, her head wouldn’t move.
Her body wouldn’t move.
“Thank Heavens,” said the Innkeeper from far away, from above, from below, “You know girlie, you used up all my water.”
                                                                -
“Lord Sesshomaru!” Rin’s voice rang out and Sesshomaru heeded her immediately with Sango in tow, Hiraikotsu firmly in her grasp.
“Mama! The rain is clearing up!” Sango children crowded around her hips gleeful and fed and Sango leaned down to them.
“And how long was it raining?”
“14 days!” Her eldest daughter piped up, her siblings agreeing.
“What is it, Rin?” He watched the girl and Jaken attempt to gather all of the fur into their arms to avoid getting dirty as they made their way to him but the mud hardly mattered. Why was Mokomoko leaning at all?
“A message appeared, My Lord!” Jaken squealed from behind, his stubby form holding up the latter pelt while Rin stood on tip-toe to reveal its underside. Sesshomaru’s frown deepened and he reached for the soggy thing and it dried immediately before affixing itself around his shoulders. It was heavy with holy magic and would remain sluggish until the holy magic was removed and Sesshomaru only knew of one Priestess who could place such intent upon him at such close proximity.
It was even in her handwriting. And as the weather cleared, her scent came at him with a force it hadn’t had in fourteen days. His hand gripped the pelt tighter when Sango came over to survey the message.
“Dearest Sesshomaru, I miss you?” She read aloud.
With his free hand Sesshomaru waved his palm over the words and captured the false letters in his hand then placed his palm up. The letters evaporated like steam and he caught whiffs of tea and polished floors and blood not her own.
Sango could say she’d never seen steam with feelings until her eyes caught those last glimpses of Sesshomaru’s stoic face crack in anger before clouds of billowing smoke swallowed him up until he vanished.
                                                           -
…Was that snow?
“What trickery is this, witch?”
Kagome squinted.
No, not snow, though the consistency was similar. Small, white petals fell from a large, white cloud that descended from above the grounds, creating a flurry that threw the Innkeeper off kilter as it clumped into their ears and nose and sucked into the Innkeeper’s indignant maw.
A larger shadow fell over Kagome and she felt instantly relieved.
Sesshomaru made time for the brief caress of her cheek and Kagome swooned a tad before Sesshomaru caught one of the falling petals on his fingers and pressed it to Kagome’s lips.
“Sesshomaru,” Tension easing from body, Kagome nuzzled her cheek into his palm, “I did miss you.”
He brought their faces closer, “You were expecting Myoga.” He accused her.
“Obviously.” She giggled, “But you’ll do.”
While Kagome waited for the feeling to return to her legs, Sesshomaru surveyed the area for irregularities.
… There. The strange, orange liquid attempting to bubble itself back into a brass teapot sitting on the veranda. That was irregular.
Sesshomaru shot out his hand and produced his poison whip, snapping it across the liquid surface and causing it to bubble. The Innkeeper retook a human form from the reaction, their yowl agonizing and arms blistering.
“Guess that means my letter worked?”
”Well enough.” He lifted the side of mokomoko that her words ink-stained into the underside.
“I can get that out.”
Sesshomaru rolled his eyes. The Innkeeper was struggling so he tightened his grip.
“I just need to get–”
He turned and shook his hair to the side, revealing her weapons attached at his hip. Even with his back turned, Sesshomaru could feel Kagome’s grateful expression while she removed the bow and quiver.
He harshly flicked his wrist and sent the demon skyward to screech and snarl into the blood orange sky. Above all else, Sesshomaru could not stand much more of the noise that was drowning out their conversation. At least this way he could admire the way Kagome adjusted her aim.
“This One had already been looking for you.”
Kagome could barely concentrate on charging her arrow when he was being such a sweet-talker, “Thank you for finding me, my Lord.”
Her arrow struck the teapot and Sesshomaru’s acid did quick work of the false form.
As the demon puddled to the ground, Kagome placed her sleeve over her mouth as she approached. She waved two fingers in a uniform pattern across the puddle and it purified. Then she raised her fingers and chanted, and the sky began to resemble the sky, the sun was setting, the horizon was empty and her mission was complete.
Sesshomaru stepped next to her when it was done and offered her his hand to take. She obliged, then laced their fingers together.
“What of the Inn?”
“I’ve been purifying it for the last few days. The spirits left easily enough because they didn’t want to be there in the first place. They wanted to keep walking toward the horizon.”
Sesshomaru looked to the horizon, but all he saw was the sunset, “Was there something there?”
“Something for anyone who's looking.” Kagome answered in her strange way. Sesshomaru was certain she didn’t even notice when she spoke nonsensically.
“Hungry?” Kagome questioned perkily, “Only the tea was cursed. The snacks weren’t bad. And we have the whole place to ourselves.”
Kagome led Sesshomaru back to the Inn.
“Pardon the intrusi–Ah!” She stumbled backwards, caught by Sesshomaru’s big frame. When had he removed his armor?
“This One had been looking for you prior to your ‘invitation’.” His hand tightened in hers and Kagome gulped. Something was rubbing salaciously between the pleats of her hakama.
“O-oh? Well, you found me. Did I thank you for that yet?”
“You are about to.” Sesshomaru bent over her and her body followed slightly until they were both on their knees at the door.
Kagome could always see things behind her but it was a different thrill entirely to somehow feel the grin slipping over Sesshomaru’s lips.
“Pardon the intrusion.” He whispered.
I'm the Villainess, so I'm Taming the Final Boss 1-4 Challenges Anime Tropes
Tumblr media
Last summer I went to the bookstore to check out the "light novel" medium. I wanted to buy the first novel of a series I hadn't yet watched in anime. Even in a cursory glance at the shelves _I'm the Villainess, so I'm Taming the Final Boss_ stood out as something new and fresh. It looked like a direct challenge to many of the tropes of Japanese pop fiction that I'd seen in 30 years of reading manga and watching anime. Taming the Final Boss challenges the tropes in two ways, by the complexity of its female lead and by being the first genuinely sexy romance.
1) The protagonist
Japan has a very narrow range of strong female role models, to the point where recently older Japanese feminists apologized to young Japanese women for not doing more to provide them with an expanded range of strong role models. In Japanese pop fiction a good woman is allowed to be strong only if she uses her strength to help others. If she uses her strength for personal or selfish reasons she must be a bad woman and she must meet a bad end, even if the "selfish" reason that motivates her is saving her own life.
In shonen anime the classic example of this is Inuyasha. Kagome always fights for others, so she is allowed to have a good end. Kikyo and Kagra all have to at some point fight for the selfish reason of saving their own lives, and thus are morally dubious and die. It's such a waste!
(This is also the reason I refuse to watch anime where the male protagonist fights to prove himself the best at something just to prove himself, because no female protagonist would be allowed do that without being considered bad for being so selfish. The mild exception of being allowed to be the best at a traditionally female occupation doesn't count.)
Shoujo is even worse. The shoujo heroine, in the words of @marithlizard "does not value herself, her survival or her boundaries". The classic example is Tohru from Fruits Basket, who is so utterly self-sacrificing she forces the men around her to grow up in order to protect her -- and even that story showed this approach didn't work with her own extended family who would have happily let her self-destruct.
So where are the role models for women who want to survive and do what they want to do?
That's where the villainess subgenre comes in. In otome romance RPGs, the villainess is a strong, intelligent, highly educated and well connected young woman who exists to get publicly dumped by the prince when he chooses the main character and ignominiously killed off at a later date. But what if you're a former gamer who realizes you've been reborn in the role of this strong, intelligent woman? Are you going to stick around and wait to die, or are you going to do something selfish but ultimately life-saving?
Villainess stories quickly developed two different routes for dealing with this challenge. The first is the Caterina route, (named for the protagonist of _My Next Life as a Villainess _) stop being a villainess. Turn into the most loveable shoujo protagonist that everyone will fall in love with and no one will want to kill you. This route is nice in small doses but hardly subversive.
The second route is to quit the game. Realize that the system is rigged against you, walk away, stop being a villainess, and go discover a better life for yourself somewhere else. That's a totally valid option that I can respect if its your choice.
But what if you want to win the game? What if you want to decide on your own prize and carve out your own path to victory? Can a Japanese pop fiction female character do something so outrageously self-centered and survive?
Aileen Lauren d'Autriche is just such a villainess. At the moment of getting publicly dumped by the prince, she remembers that her current life is an otome game she played to distract herself from the fact that she was dying of childhood leukemia. All that she obtained from her previous life was some vague game knowledge and a burning desire to live this time around. In order to escape her doom of being killed when the final boss demon lord goes postal, she plans to marry the demon lord and keep him from going postal. Said demon lord is also her ex-fiance's older, sexier, hyper-magical, hyper-emo half brother. Shenanigans ensue.
Through it all Aileen never stops being a villainess. She regards both her "villainess" traits and her "heroine" traits as equally valid tools in her tool kit to be used appropriately and shamelessly as needed in order to win on her own terms and create her own happy ending for herself and her chosen lover. In that regard, this heroine of a frothy romcom is one of the most complex female protagonists in Japanese pop fiction.
2) a genuinely sexy romance
Anime has managed to tell many kinds of story well, but romance has always been it's weak spot. It's traditionally either:
a) one person pursuing someone who doesn't really want them, or
b) two people with mutual goals and life experiences deciding to form a partnership.
There's not many cases of two people (or more, though that's trickier) realizing the other is mutually irreplaceable.
Likewise, there's not really a lot of sexy stories. There's cute stories, sleazy stories, and stories with sexy people in them, but a sexy STORY is about two people (or more, though that's trickier) mutually enjoying their growing physical attraction to each other. I gave up on seeing that in Japanese pop fiction over a quarter century ago. The romance protagonists are usually too pure-hearted. But apparently a villainess and a demon lord can fall in mutual lust as well as love.
More please!
some more early inukag
because i am once again a fool for their love.
(lol once again, as if i ever stopped loving them)
“I don’t see why you have to go back!”
The angry scowl does little to change her mind. “Because I have an exam,” she snaps back, hands on hips, blue eyes narrowing. “And I’d like to graduate with the rest of my class,” she goes on, shouldering her backpack as she puts one foot onto the edge of the well. “I’ll be back Tuesday.”
 He doesn’t know what Tuesday means but there’s no time to ask because she’s gone, fading from his time into the future. Just like that, she was gone. “Kagome will be back,” Miroku chimes in, unflinching when the hanyou’s gaze is daggers in his direction instead of the well. “Tuesday is three days from now.” The monk continues, thinking of what the young woman has taught him during their time together. “And it will do us well to rest.” InuYasha curses beneath his breath but does not reply, rather he storms off back towards the village, leaving Miroku there to heave a sigh. He supposes it’s best not to argue with the hanyou- even he’s not brave enough for that, yet. And so, with one last glance towards the well, he follows after InuYasha, hoping they might actually get the rest they deserve.
[ x x x ]
She can’t understand any of this.
Despite the hours she’s crammed into this textbook, she doesn’t understand a damn thing. Heaving a sigh, she pushes back from the desk she’s sat at for the last several hours, thinking perhaps InuYasha was right, and she should have just remained in the feudal era. There’s a part of her that knows she belongs there- that she needs to be there. But... There’s still a sliver of her that wants to be like any normal girl might be.
But she wonders if life could ever be normal again.
Yawning, she glances at the clock which reads well past midnight and decides she might sleep a while. Perhaps in the morning she might wake with a fresh start, a fresh mind. And so, she rises up from the chair and instead climbs into her bed, fully clothed and not bothering to draw a single blanket over her head. Truth was, the moment her head hit the pillow, she was asleep; it wasn’t just the hours of studying that left her so sleepy, but the days, if not weeks, of nonstop traveling. They had spent the better half of the last month simply on the go- chasing demons and Naraku, too. It was exhausting.
And so, she sleeps, quite peacefully.
[ x x x ]
When he slips in through her window, he’s quite intent on bringing her back.
But she’s asleep in her bed, one hand tucked beneath her ivory cheek, stalling him in his steps. He’s seen her asleep, of course, but there was something different about this time. Something that steers him in a way he’d not thought possible. A sigh escapes him as he sinks down onto the floor beside her bed, torn between frustration and something that felt soft and warm. Whatever his plans were before, they were gone now, and all that was left behind was his instinct to protect her, to keep her safe from whatever might be out there- in this world, and his.
And so, he closes his eyes, waiting until she opened hers.
[ x x x ]
She wakes as the first rays of dawn peek through her curtains.
Yawning, she rolls onto her other side, definitely thinking she’d return to sleep for a few more hours. But she’s compelled to open her eyes, and she’s surprised to see the snoozing hanyou at the side of her bed. Sitting up, she blinks, thinking for a single moment that she’s just imagined this, that he’s not there, for why would he be? And yet... There he was, snoring softly.
Something warm seeps into her blood, into her veins, and she can’t help but to smile as she leans forward, all so she might drape her sheet over his shoulders. He stirs, but does not wake, and so she returns her head to her pillow. It gave her butterflies to think he’d come all this way for her, only to have found her asleep and left her as he’d found her.
Something tells her that this was where she was meant to be.
[ x x x ]
She fails her exam, but she supposes she shouldn’t be surprised.
“Are you ready?” InuYasha asks, though her bag is already on his shoulder, those golden eyes unwavering in their gaze. “It is Tuesday,” he reminds her, though he only knows because he’s asked her mother that very morning when Kagome had left for school.
 Kagome stares back at him for what might have been an eternity, before she laughs, a sound he realizes right then that he adores. When had that happened? “Ready,” she says, knowing that deep down, there was no where she wanted to be than by his side. In truth, she was eager to return to the feudal era, to the life she’s begun to grow accustomed to.
“Did you pass?” He asks and she shakes her head, dejected, defeated, quite unlike the Kagome he knows. It surprises him and he reminds himself that this was her usual life, of course it was disappointing that she was not able to live it fully. “Next time then,” he says as they head out the door of her room and into the hallway, thinking back to what her mother had told him to say that morning when he’d asked- right after he’d asked the day of the week, that was. “You’ll do it next time.” Her mother had said to be encouraging! And while he knows it’s not his greatest of strengths, there’s something inside of him that wants to make her feel better.
Was he... Consoling her? Kagome shoots him a surprised glance, eyes widening ever so slightly as his eyes turn back to her. “I hope so,” she replies, a smile spreading across her face as they descend the stairs to the lower level of the house. After a round of goodbyes, they’ve made their way back to the wellhouse, about to jump through back to his time. “Hey InuYasha...” She says, stopping him as one foot is halfway up, ready to jump through. “Thanks for coming to get me,” she grins, perhaps not quite what she’d thought she might say, but the next best thing. He scowls, but his eyes are shining as he offers her his hand, and together, they leap into the well.
Back to the other side, the other life of theirs.
Stay With Me Forever by infolol (E)
He could have hurried, he really should have hurried– just as he did when he was looking for her– but something in his mind wouldn’t let him. So he walked. Inuyasha could only hope that Kagome wouldn’t comment on his slowness, especially given how cold it was starting to become, the snow getting heavier every second. He felt her nuzzle into his neck, her grip getting a bit tighter.
Her voice came out as a whisper, if not for his heightened senses, he probably wouldn’t have even been able to hear her. “You’re so warm.”
The next words out of his mouth were not thought through, in fact, he had no idea why they came out in the first place- his mind was practically blank as he spoke,
“I could stay with you tonight, if you’d like.”
Custom Toonami Block Week 173 Rundown
The Witch from Mercury: Okay so I have a notoriously hard time of comprehending Gundam plots so if I get anything wrong… that’s just how it’ll have to be. So it’s the old chesnut Gundam franchise have been milking for forty years now… Earth vs Space, like seriously I haven’t even seen all the Gundam serieses and I am SO sick of setup and everyone philosophizing about how going into space gives people superpowers and shit like can Gundam as a series think of anything else to do? But yeah apparently in this verse they originally were making prosthetics for people that had muscle dystrophy and shit from being in space and then as someone always does they went ‘cool but what if we did WAR with it?’ and now regular mobile suits and Gundams are just quietly being built in the background even though no official war is going on and the Gundams make people fucking die from a combination of information overload similar to the Zero System in Wing and that shit in Pacific Rim that made it so you needed two people to coordinate motor functions of a huge robot. Enter Eri, tiny girl with a mysterious connection to the big Barbie Gundam being built by her parents who are definitely not surviving this episode. It’s her birthday because this backstory is REALLY gonna kick her in the metaphorical nuts and the Space People have decided ‘Gundams kill their own guys, I’M supposed to kill their guys, that’s not fair bro’ which, A+ politicianing, no notes, I’m sure that’d go over well with a CEO just shouting about how he wants to kill people on the battlefield before they can nobly sacrifice themselves and that’s why he has to shutdown the big superweapons will go over great, like anime politicians can just get away with saying the wildest shit while real politicians come under fire if you don’t say the word god enough in a speech. But yeah instead of just shutting them down and destroying their research they just fucking come out swinging and do a full Space Colony ARK and murder everyone in the station (I think these guys were Earth-Alligned despite being in a space station idk this is why I have a hard time keeping track of this shit) like I feel like that was overkill and just PR nosedive for no reason but Eri needs a tragic backstory. Like is there functionally any reason they had to go murder everyone instead of just going ‘your shit’s illegal now, hand over your research OR will kill you’ instead of going ‘hand over your shit AND we’ll kill you’? Like I guess they’re doing a scorched earth approach and wanting to make sure and are prolly gonna say the unarmed scientists resisted to a level that required lethal force but that really seemed unnecessary, like you probably could’ve tied that up in courts and had them hand over all their shit instead of murder. While all this is going on Eri’s in the Barbie Gundam and surprise surprise she can get it to work when no one else can, her dad and the random technician lesbian take out the non-Barbie gundams and murder everyone except for the angsty pretty boy in the obligatory regal-looking suit that’s fancier than normal but technically not a gundam to get around plot shit while Eri and her mom get away in the Barbie Gundam which I’m honestly kind of surprised Eri’s mom gets to live I was expecting a full familial wipe from a backstory going this hard on the trauma and eerie innocence of its main character.
Inuyasha The Final Act: After the events with Moryomaru, Koga’s joined the group and Shippo notes how it changes the dynamic now that he’s actively stoking the Inuyasha/Kikyo/Kagome love triangle and Shippo doesn’t like it but I kinda do, it’s kinda funny to have a party member that isn’t super friendly with the others. Meanwhile Naraku reabsorbs Onigumo’s heart, theorizing that if he can’t directly kill Kikyo without it, he can use the overt shittiness of humanity to corrupt the purifying light she puts into Kohaku’s shard to try and purify him. So that gives him the ability to shoot spiderwebs of bad vibes at people to corrupt them mentally since I guess Onigumo’s fine with mindbreaking Kikyo even if he can’t overtly kill her. Kikyo’s absorbed Miroku’s miasma and give her own was never fully healed she’s like 75% poison at this point and basically half dead so she has to ditch Kohaku so he doesn’t get corrupted, luckily Sesshomaru takes over the Kohaku Babysitting duties for the time being. Meanwhile Kagome is once again the only one who can save Kikyo and we have to play the song and dance of ‘does Kagome want Kikyo to literally die for a love triangle?’ again even though we’ve established time and time again the answer is fucking no, though this time we have Naraku actively pumping bad vibes into her to at least give her doubts while she goes to get the only bow that can purify Kikyo. This part’s kinda trippy since we see a bunch of illusions of Kikyo and Inuyasha and they keep going ‘no it’s real this time’ like an episode of Rick and Morty until we show that Kikyo and Inuyasha are still outside the shrine so absolutely none of it was real. Kagome has to AGAIN reject the idea of wanting her romantic rival to literally die though this time coming out on the side of her and Kikyo being equals because she’s sick of feeling like a Johnny come lately trying to vault over the First Girl and has a whole series of character development to relate to Inuyasha with so that’s a nice little moment of her in-universe being sick of the fucking endless tests of her heart, like Kagome’s fundamentally a good girl and yeah constantly getting asked this question has gotta be grating when it’s something she barely ever thought about.
Castlevania: We get Hector’s backstory now so we have all the pieces on the humans Dracula’s recruited while Carmilla’s still stirring the shit trying to get someone to go after the Belmont house and I’m still not entirely sure if she’s the one that will cause infighting that will ruin the bad guys’ plans or if she’s the more dangerous villain ready to take over for the more sympathetic Dracula The Rock style. Meanwhile Trevor’s group do come across the Belmon treasure trove and it is kinda sweet to see him reminisce over his childhood and family legacy despite how much he seemed to disown them in season 1. He gets a cool new weapon and Sypha gets to read books and shit but Alucard’s basically walking through the vampire version of the holocaust museum so he’s more than a little freaked out. Back at Castle Castlevania Godbrand’s a bit concerned that human genocide is kinda like cow genocide in that it makes everything kinda shitty on the food chain and Dracula just wants to be done with humanity. Their interaction cues us that Dracula’s actually kinda pulling a better-explained Raizen from YYH and slowly starving despite still being ridiculously powerful and may be plotting to let vampires die out with humans so everything’s just a quiet empty void (like I think vampires can still survive without humans but it’s a lot less pleasant so idk if a vampire genocide is really in the cards but it’s not something people are clamoring for). Still Carmilla’s just here to play the Starscream and take things over so I guess get ready for Carmillavania in Season 3.
Jujutsu Kaisen: So turns out Megumi’s technique is like Pokemon and you have to fight the big monsters before you get to capture them and send them out for you and getting help means you don’t get the capture but you do get to try again if you need to and there’s a super secret legendary pokemon that no one’s every caught before and actually killed a Gojo-level guy in the past, though it obviously kills the person summoning it first. So much for Megumi being all ‘I’m not throwing my life away’ a few episodes ago because his first response to being attacked by a C-tier asshole is summoning the Ultra Necrozma nuke. I assume this is the technique that he’s been talking about all those times we’ve gone ‘oh he’s gonna do a big attack’ except probably the time against Todo because that wouldn’t make any sense but given the mass carnage here I’m kinda glad he didn’t pull it out until now because it definitely would’ve murdered a fuckton of people in the process. Sukuna steps in because Megumi doesn’t technically die until hand-hold guy dies so as long as he’s able to keep them alive while fighting Ultra Necrozma here everything’s cool. The rest of the episode is basically just a ridiculous slugfest between Sukuna and Ultra Necrozma because this guy’s like Amazo from Justice League and adapts to any and all attacks so the only way to beat it is to obliterate it on an atomic level with something it’s never seen before. Realizing and implying there is something sneaky about his ‘cut anything forever’ attack, Sukuna uses his Domain which is basically like sticking something in a blender combined with that glitch in OoT that’s just infinite sword swings and for good measure hits it with the fire arrow thing from last time to make sure it can’t regenerate. The end result basically turns Shibuya into Made in Abyss with a giant fuckoff hole in the center. He gets Megumi to safety and kills hand-holding guy FINALLY and then he just hands consciousness off back to Yuji who now remembers EVERYTHING from the past three episodes or so all at once and gets flashes of the hundreds of thousands of deaths his body is responsible for. So… yeah, that’s rough buddy.
Delicious in Dungeon: Just getting this out of the way but this is another of those ‘have you ever played an RPG before?’ anime that is ridiculously video gameified and kind of relies on all the tropes you already know about games for its worldbuilding and like luckily it’s charming enough on its own to not have that wreck the show for me but the over-reliance on making every fantasy setting a video game is REALLY a pet peeve of mine. But yeah, this series is rather silly, Laios’s sister Falin gets eaten by a dragon and there’s a medium-level urgency to get her back before she’s digested. Like the stakes are really confusing because several characters make it very clear how important getting her back is but part of the comedy seems to be how they’re not in a huge hurry and stop for food every five minutes, plus it’s not entirely clear if this is one of those video game fantasy settings that has no consequences for dying since they seem kind of chill about finding corpses and Marcille refers to a life-threatening situation being her ‘first time’ dying despite there being graveyards and shit so this is the kind of shit that really bugs me about video game-style fantasy worlds and I assume it’ll get explained later but it gets under my skin. Still the whole thing basically turns into a Food Wars episode as Laios is very passionate about monsters like in a Garou-level sense of just being hyperfixated but also has no idea how to go through the manual skill needed to actually cook them which is strange given he seemed to be kind of looking for an excuse to do this for years. Still, luckily they find Senshi, a guy whose whole deal is having already done this for years and basically treats it like a Martha Stewart show and it’s pretty funny watching them meet halfway between Food Wars and Toriko. Like there’s not much more to it than that, they make some scorpion soup and some vegetable tart and Marcille gets an obligatory tentacle scene though it’s not protracted and doesn’t have any fanservice shots so I get the feeling it was just something to fuel fanart as opposed to actually showing anything which is an interesting way to take things, let the R34 machine run itself without having to dirty their own hands. It’s fun, the setting is one of my least favorite things about modern anime and the tone is kind of confusing but I’m sure that’ll even out with time, I am enjoying it thus far.
Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End: The first bit of the episode is a little adventure developing the new group dynamic now that Stark has joined and Fern isn’t really sure what to do with him. Frieren gets to meet some more of the people touched by her adventure and the far-reaching festivals made in honor of their deeds. The real meat of the episode is in the second part though and we get some really good stuff here. The group enters a new town when Frieren senses demons and goes into attack mode, but turns out these demons wear clothes and shit and are all fancy and the like, being ambassadors to try peace talks with the village. Since Frieren just attacked a foreign ambassador they throw her right the fuck in jail and Fern gives her the scoop that one of the Demon King’s generals took over after he died and is now leading the charge but the ambassadors have decided that peace may be an option. Frieren is ridiculously racist against demons but also kinda describes how they kinda deserve it by telling a story of a demon girl that was trusted by a community only to murder more people and only using sympathetic words to save herself from attacks. Or at least that’s how Frieren sees things, the real story is the girl was taken in by the town and still hated for the people she had previously killed so in a truly utilitarian sense she stole a replacement child for the one she’d murdered just to get their racist asses off her backs and the evil Frieren sees in her is an ignorance of emotion, someone that’s not necessarily good or bad and is an alien to human connections acting in ways that appear horrendous to those that have them. Someone just like Fern. That’s kind of the part that gets me, like earlier this same episode we see how foreign basic social skills are to Fern and Frieren herself and granted they’re not murdering people but it’s the same kind of not fully understanding people thing that throws off the ‘measure of a man’ speeches because if you say someone that lacks compassion or social understanding is a monster what happens when a human shares those qualities, someone who’s antisocial or autistic and can’t be bought in by the ‘love makes us human’ answer to the kind of sentient being whose life we should or shouldn’t value, if that’s where we’re going with this I’m really excited. Still for the time being the demons are right dicks and manipulate the guards with all the right words of ‘oh but we’ve suffered too, let’s have peace’ that would absolutely wreck any Naruto-minded Talk no Jutsu protagonist despite demons literally not having families (and this seemingly crucial fact apparently not being widely known). Turns out the ambassadors’ plan is to make peace and then have the town lower its barrier so they can burn it to the ground which… doesn’t make any fucking sense like it’s not like you’re disarming a weapon you’re asking them to take down a purely defensive shield that can’t actually hurt anybody and promising ‘we won’t attack bro’ without giving any sign of good faith on your end, might as well ask them to tear down their walls like that probably protects them from non-demon creatures and judging by last episode is a crucial part of border control, like that’s a dumb plan. It’s frustrating because their emotional manipulation is ridiculously good but their actual plan doesn’t make any sense. Still this complicated situation is about to get a lot simpler because one of the junior ambassadors just fucking barges into the dungeon, kills a guard and is ready to kill Frieren, like these guys are so fucking dumb even if Frieren wasn’t a demi-god how are you going to explain a dead guard outside the cell while the fugitive elf died in the cell like you just blew your whole dumb barrier-lowering plan because you couldn’t think of a diplomatic way to get in to see the prisoner and had to kill her right fucking now.
Vinland Saga: Thorfinn and Snake continue their fight and are surprisingly evenly matched despite Thorfinn just using his fists and not being as small and nimble as he was when he first developed his knife style. Thorfinn isn’t defeated but does lose the battle of the terrain when Snake is able to move over to the cart and get to Gardar. He makes a good point that he can’t justify just letting Gardar go since he really cares about his whole crew and taking anything less than revenge would be an insult. Now obviously this is still wrong but making the ‘an eye for an eye leaves everyone blind’ argument is a little difficult when you’re in Viking times and have like five seconds before this guy stabs him. Snake starts making plans of what to do now that Thorfinn and Arnheid have disobeyed him and Gardar just… pops up out of the cart like a daisy and stopped the sword with his astonishing pecs or some shit because he gets Snake in a sleeper hold and knocks him out. Arnheid talks him down from killing Snake and Gardar’s still gonna die anyway so the rest of the episode is just a big schmaltzy sendoff for Gardar and all the regrets he’s had in his life and it’s a pretty cool sequence for someone whose character development mostly came from other people. Like just saying, Askeladd was basically the main character for a while and all he got was a final speech and Gardar gets a whole dream sequence of finding his obviously dead son. Still now we’re in the weird position of Arnheid being taken by Ketil’s guards and Ketil himself coming home to find his bottom bitch and his favorite slave tried to start a revolt over a guy he’s never heard of while war with the king is looming on the horizon, so… awkward, I guess.
This is a entry for @inukagfluffweek event Inukag fluff week 2023 day 2: White Day. Given that I did a entry for Valentine’s Day on my another blog @legofanguy, I decided to do one for White Day.
Kagome feel a bit upset when she return from her era and the group noticed it. While they were camping, Sango ask Inuyasha, “You better go check on Kagome, Inuyasha.” Walking up to Kagome, Inuyasha ask her, “Hey, what’s wrong with you? Did you got in a fight with your family?” Kagome reply, “No. Today was White Day, a holiday in my era in which boys give the girls they loved gifts such as chocolate. I was hoping that this cute boy in school would give me something after I give him chocolate on Valentine’s Day, but I didn’t get anything.” Inuyasha sigh and he think, ‘I don’t think I will understand women. Still.... that guy does sound like a jerk.’
The next time Kagome and Inuyasha arrived in the modern time, she noticed that Inuyasha right away talk to her little brother Sota about something. Kagome wonder what it is, but she have to do her homework first. As she went upstairs, Sota call out to his mother, “Mom, me and Inuyasha are going to get White Day’s Chocolate for Kagome.” which Inuyasha said to him, “Quiet. Kagome could hear you.”
After a few hours, night has come to the city, and Kagome is about to go to bed. Just before she does, Inuyasha appear on the window, hoping something in his arms. When he enter the room, he hand it to Kagome, and said to her, “Here. This should make you feel better.” Kagome realized that it is a box of chocolate, surprising her as Inuyasha said, “Don’t get any ideas. I just buy it before you were upset about the whole thing.” Kagome take a moment to ask, “How did you get it?” and Inuyasha reply, “I ask your brother to help me buy it.” which she pause. Kagome ask Inuyasha, “You made Sota buy something for you.” and Inuyasha quickly defended himself, “Well, I don’t have your era money.” Kagome said, “Sit boy!” and Inuyasha hit the floor, while Kagome enjoy her chocolate.
There was an empty hut not too far away from Sango and Miroku’s house, one that had once been occupied by a little old man determined to keep his independence for as long as humanly possible.
But his eyesight was going and his son put his foot down, and so the little hut now stood there full of nothing but dust and memories.
A week after Kagome came back, the village decided she and Inuyasha could have it since they would be getting married, after all, and it was going to waste anyway.
Kagome had been thrilled.
She had not been excited about the wait to get a new one built and was more than happy to take over care of the abandoned one.
“Don’t you want something bigger?” He’d asked her after looking it over, taking note of how cramped it already felt.
“No, it’s perfect! And it’s ours! I already love it. Don’t you?”
She gripped his sleeve and looked up at him with big blue doe eyes, and though a heavy mantle of nervousness had settled on his shoulders, he gulped down the butterflies scratching and screaming up his throat and nodded in agreement.
She’d squealed and wrapped her arms around him, and he’d caught her easily, relishing how good and right and warm she felt against him.
But then he looked over her shoulder at the corner under a window, one she’d just got done exclaiming was the perfect place to put the futon, at least in summer, and the nerves came back.
He thought he’d have more time to get used to her being back before they’d be sequestered so completely alone with no risk of someone coming to find them, thought he’d have more opportunity to just be with her and smell her and hear her voice and watch her face as it moved animatedly through all her emotions as she told him stories or yelled at him in frustration or maybe even stole a kiss here and there.
After a year of tip toeing around each other, three solid years apart, and then a week reunited… this was all happening so fast.
Despite his fears, every day he helped her clean the place up, trying to hide how watching her do such domestic things as sweep old floor boards after he’d replaced them or washed the cobwebs off the walls or cleaned and stacked the dishes they’d had handed down to them made him choke up and feel soft.
But damn she just looked so much like a wife. Like his wife, the wife he’d never ever thought he would have.
And she kept smiling at him with such sparkling happiness and excitement that it certainly rubbed off, and he couldn’t deny that he was happy she was here, happy she was his, happy that he would spend every day of the rest of their lives with her, but he was also frightened.
So very, very frightened.
There was a place on the roof that leaked like a stream when it rained, and the day’s task included ripping that spot out and repairing it so they would stay dry in inclement weather.
The sun bore down from above and sweat dripped from his brow, but he ignored it and worked diligently to make this ramshackle hut a proper home for the woman who’d given up unimaginable comfort and luxury to proudly live with a Hanyo.
He could hear Kagome puttering around inside, filling the storage chest and rearranging the cups and bowls and opening and closing the door mat and sweeping again and again and again, nervous little gestures that belied the subtle uptick of her pulse.
Tomorrow was the day, the day they would officially become husband and wife, and she was finally getting a case of the nerves that had been plaguing him since he’d agreed to make this house their home.
“Inuyasha!” He heard her call, and he slid from the roof to land gracefully in front of her. Her eyes trailed down his shirtless form, and her pulse sped up again, a tantalizing tendril of interest threading through her scent that made his eyes widen. “Here,” she said breathlessly, handing him a cup of water and turning away with burning cheeks to try and catch her breath.
“Th-thanks.” He choked out, quickly gulping down much needed hydration as his skin prickled and his hands trembled.
“I’m… really excited about tomorrow.” She said quietly, and when he looked at her again, the setting sun had set her hair aglow like it was spun from threads of pure gold.
“Y-yeah?”
“Mhm. I’ve been dreaming of this since… since forever. I’m so happy to be your wife.”
His heart cracked and splintered as his secret fears reared up and brandished their claws against his soul.
He did not deserve her.
But then he knew that already.
He did want her, though, no matter how else he felt, and he simply would not entertain any true alternatives to moving into this hut with her and making her his.
“Yeah, me too.” He said, and he truly meant it from the depths of his being.
She smiled and it made her shine brighter than any star he’d ever seen, and then she leaned up and brushed her lips against his, the first kiss they’d been able to sneak since the jewel had tried to consume her.
She still tasted better than anything he’d ever tasted before.
“Come on, let’s get back to Kaede’s before she sends Miroku over. He’d harass us for the rest of our lives if he had to fetch us on the night before we get married.”
“Damn pervert.” He groused, but he let her take his hand and pull him along.
I decided to re-design her ^^ because the Inuyasha writers make me so angry. Keep in mind they're only rough sketches and I'll probably do more in depth ones later
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The two different designs are her in the two different time periods. This is kind of both a re-design and a re-write so I’m going to tell you about it for funzies
Okay so some basic information on my redesign of Kagome :
- She's a little chubbier before going to the Feudal era and becomes more toned with broader shoulders after she starts going regularly
- Every 24 hours in the Feudal Era is an hour in the present day, which also makes more sense considering the fact that its canon that the choices she makes in the Feudal era affect the present day history, meaning the time discrepancy should be smaller if not nonexistent
- Kagome trained in archery for most of her childhood as an extra-curricular, as she had a natural talent for it that her mother discovered while they were searching for extra-curricular activities for Kagome to do in her downtime
- Her grandfather is actually quite knowledgeable in seals and ancient practices and although she is bored with his old stories most of the time she does retain a lot of the information regarding the practices and she becomes more interested in it as time goes on in the Feudal era
- I made her 20 because I think it’s very yucky that she’s fifteen and Inuyasha (though he has the maturity of a young adult) is nearly 200 years old. Plus it generally is just weird considering the interactions she has with some of the adult men in the show. The way I resolved this was I decided she’s incredibly smart but often doesn’t have time to focus on school between helping around the house and the shine and with her brother so she continuously fails her classes. She has taken her last year of high school twice and if she fails again this year she’ll be expelled, which puts extra pressure on her to find a balance between her home life, the feudal era, school, and friends.
- In my rewrite Kagome becomes a very powerful and accomplished priestess. She is proficient in combat (especially as she gets more practice) and her ability to create sacred arrows is beyond impressive. She is capable of holding her own on the battlefield and when captured she is capable of making efforts to escape on her own. I find it annoying that we get glimpses at what Kagome could be in the anime regarding her strength and resolve but its always thrown out so she can be saved by Inuyasha or someone else
- I gave her a more accurate and less fetishy school uniform. I also think it's completely impractical the way she wears her uniform in the Feudal era instead of changing so I changed that as well
- Her Feudal era uniform is a high priestess outfit similar to Kikyo’s, though there are some key differences in its design to make them distinguishable. Kagome has her hair in two low ponytails that she often drapes over her shoulders and lets hang down her front. I imagine Kagome wears more jewelry and more practical shoes, probably boots of some sort as well. As far as character designs go it's not the best because of their similar silhouettes but my justification is that since Kagome is her reincarnation so it still makes sense.
- I imagine Kagome doesn’t spend all of her time in priestess garb, though I'm not well versed in the more casual outfits of the Feudal era. The priestess garb is probably usually for around Kaede’s Village and on longer travels. If she is anticipating battle (especially after meeting Sango) I’m sure she wears something more armored and closer to Sango’s outfit.
- The bag I gave her for the Feudal era is what I found when I was looking for traditional bags for that time period. A lot of the thought I put into her outfit is based on the intent of making her blend in. The backpack she keeps doesn't make sense from a tactical standpoint, and only works to put a target on her back, as well as her clothes. The character on her bag is the Kanji for guarding, defense, and protection.
-Also please ignore that I forgot what a quiver is called el oh el
Now the general story :
- Inuyasha stays the same age because, as far as I can tell, 200 for demons seems to be the maturity level of 20 for humans
- His personality doesn't change much, he’s still kind of a bitch and he still has mostly the same character development throughout, though he has more respect for Kagome’s abilities while still being worried about her / being protective of her
- Miroku is mostly the same at the beginning but he’s not fucking nasty to kids and his character development comes sooner after we meet him. He’s more respectful to Sango probably over the course of a season or so
- Shippo stays the same I love Shippo more than anything
- The story largely follows Kagome’s abilities and her powers growing as well as Inuyasha’s development with accepting that he doesn't need to be a full demon to be powerful. It less relies on Kagome being useless and Inuyasha swooping in to save her and more follows the both of them learning how to work together. If anything Miroku takes Kagome’s place and becomes the one getting captured as he doesn’t use the wind tunnel out of actual fear of being enveloped by it. Without it he’s not very useful in battle, having not seen much of it outside of protecting his old shrine.
