the jokes and memes are very funny admittedly but i have honestly very little patience for people who don't use twitter on here and elsewhere going "well what's the big deal it's just another dumb social media platform going down we're not losing anything essential". we are. we are losing something, if not essential, then at least very, very close to it.
because twitter isn't just "that place where all the dumb discourse happens". it's a place where state agencies share vital information that saves people's lives. it's a place that gets news from breaking stories pretty much as soon as they're happening, often from many points of view simultaneously, often before *anywhere else*. it's a place that has organized, directed, and popularized social movements and protests.
we don't really have an alternative to a platform like that right now, and it will be a while before another emerges with a big enough reach to make it feasible to use it in a similar way. in the meantime, twitter has become a public tool that many people and organizations have relied on for years. right now, it's hosting evidence of war crimes and crimes against humanity in multiple regions of the world - do you see tumblr or another website right now taking up that role?
so yes, while we're all laughing (and it is genuinely funny, even as a twt user who has relied on it to organize and share information about protests), don't minimize just how big of deal it is that a platform like twitter is probably going to be dead soon.

very happy Matt decided to clarify his stance on the genocide of the Palestinian people rn. Pretty unhappy with the way he worded it, who he centered in his video, and disappointed to see the responses to it on Twitter.
kinda scared to even post about it bc CR fans can get so defensive about their favorite white people that they can often leave little room for criticism or nuance. but man I have thoughts.
#lemme just say. if you have a public platform that has set a precedent for philanthropic work. messages of positivity and love.#and have called attention to various political and social conflicts *in stream*. & whose employees and cast members are vocal#on socials about political topics#then it is NOT unreasonable for fans to expect them to address one of the deadliest orchestrated conflicts in recent history#a literal genocide is happening. thanks in part to the US.#it is good that they donated as a company and as individuals. so good!#but to everyone saying that publicizing good deeds like donations is virtue signaling or demanding CR cast to show their support is#or that activism shouldnt be all about what you post bc then it becomes performative#are kinda missing the point. and theyre not listening to palestinians at all#a huge issue with this conflict & the way its being received in the western world - ESPECIALLY the US bc of its partnership w israel -#is the sheer amount of disgusting minsinformation and propaganda convincing ppl this genocide is either not that bad or that its necessary#everyday citizens CANNOT change foreign policy. we cant do anything!#so what have Palestinians been asking us to do?? SPREAD AWARENESS ON SOCIAL MEDIA. MAKE PEOPLE AWARE. UPLIFT PALESTINIAN VOICES. SHARE LINKS#SHOW PPL THE TRUTH.#and yes its hard! its difficult to watch what theyre going thru. but we HAVE to.#i didnt rlly like matts statement. he said he didnt have the spoons to engage in the discourse. which i get. god i get it.#but ive also seen many many creators/influencers who are also disabled or whose families are directly involved gather their spoons to help#and no one was asking CR to harm themselves in the name of helping palestine. we only wanted them to spread awareness#bc the comments on their tweet about finally donating were full of mostly white centrist takes not able to see any benefit to donating or#addressing the issue at all. which is EXACTLY why CR should addresss it. bc they can reach so many who dont understand#but theyd been radio silent for almost 5 months. i didnt like that he didnt really apologize. i didnt like that he centered himself#i didnt like his lowkey flippant language either. saying all that.. ridiculousness in regards to a genocide not well worded.#but i dont feel right holding that against him. should he have thought it through better? sure but i get it#& unfortunately his parting message left a bad taste in my mouth - one of positivity & self care & hugging each other#nice important words but it didnt feel like he was talking about ppl who are affected by this conflict. but rather ppl who are watching#it just felt like a very white thing to say in response to this. we are not burdened and easily victimized bc of it#we are responsible. and so we must center palestinians.#if i were him i wldnt have gone in detail about how hard the palestinian genocide is for me to watch.#but thats just me#*CORRECTION: radio silent for almost 4 months

i feel like i’ve been WAITING for the other shoe to drop wrt people’s opinions about watcher for this very reason. not that i think the reaction is completely not understandable but the greater the parasocial relationship, the greater the fallout as soon as public opinion shifts. you don’t have a relationship with these people they’re just content creators, chill
#ready to see all the people coming out of the woodwork to say how they’ve never liked watcher/unsolved/etc#and act like it’s ‘cringe’ now that their fanbase feels ‘betrayed’#it’s great to have a fanbase but parasocial relationships will bite you in the ass every single time#it’s interesting too though because i’ve seen watcher have a LOT of support as they’ve tried to build something separate from buzzfeed#so this is the first time they’re getting real pushback about a decision they’ve made wrt shifting their platform/expanding their brand#so ig we’ll have to see how they react moving forward#but it’s soooo interesting to see how enthusiastically people dump on buzzfeed#AND how many people dump on youtube and how over the years so much of its functionality has been stripped away#how many ads you have to sit through. how much sponsored content there is now. etc#but when they try to do the same thing with youtube that they did with buzzfeed it’s like how dare you not lick their boots#because if you lick their boots and we lick their boots we can watch stuff for free#anyway.#even if you don’t any to say it’s a bad business decision. it’s not like there’s not precedent for it#1) the move away from buzzfeed was successful and 2) what about the dnd shows or whatever#don’t you guys watch those dnd shows that are ‘behind a paywall’#don’t you guys have netflix hulu disney hbo amazon etc ad nauseum that are actually owned by billion dollar corporations#don’t you guys get on your high horses about supporting independent artists all the time#it’s interesting that people will profess to be such big fans!!! and feel like they’re friends!!!!#but how dare they think their work might be worth paying for#idk. idk. it’s entitlement though#sorry for the rant i’m ALSO not trying to blindly defend a bunch of people i don’t know#but you guys are being soooo fucking annoying about it lol#anyway i’m still waiting to see what their response is going to be from here before jumping to conclusions#also to be fair i am biased to be lenient about decisions made by independent filmmakers vs big studios etc#like everybody freaking out about the ai art used in late night with the devil. who cares honestly#‘they should’ve paid a real artist!!’ idk maybe their budget didn’t cover that#i don’t want it to become the industry norm but at the end of the day i would rather see indie shit getting made then only seeing#the big studios (who don’t have equitable practices anyway!!) making shit#but that’s another conversation. just to be transparent about my viewpoint on this kind of thing#maybe controversial but also can’t we have nuance. for once.

I didn't get a chance to vote on the poll, but also noticed what would have been my answer wasn't there so I'm writing it in now- I personally see it as he's their CREATOR first, manager second. They don't call him manager in a lot of materials, and they also don't call him father, they call him "Captain" or "sir," (this being pulled from largely the additional voice actor's portrayals at least, which I think are worth at least considering in a wider scope of interpretation)
That feels like the title or nickname he'd prefer they use, hence programming them TO use it for him- and that betrays neither fatherly intent nor producer intent, but pre-existing intent he didn't change (lifting from prior coding) or that he preferred. Beyond that he definitely refers to them as troops- it is their aesthetic, but it's more impersonal
the items you get for the lore on 1010 are toys, and while it's not stated, I've always thought there was an implication that he had made them- His relationship then isn't one of a father to sons, but of a creator about his creations, which IS different. It's why he's as willing to literally throw them at you in combat and, simultaneously, seemingly instinctively, puts a hand out in front of himself to protect them when the final attack is coming- even if they are tools to some degree, he MADE them what they are and he's PROUD of that- He doesn't want to see his work destroyed
Obviously this gets increasingly more complicated if you believe that 1010 gain sapience of some degree, but I still think the relationship isn't quite what I'd call fatherhood. He is simultaneously all the family they have and deeply, inherently unlike them- yet there is undeniably pieces of him and influences from him present in them, because every creation will reflect its creator in some way, in ways they can't even predict
Then, y'know, yeah, it's being a manager time. Ultimately he's gotta organize them and tell them what to do- how he feels about that could be a variety of ways, but he is doing it nonetheless, so something about it matters to him as well- likely the vow to serve the city thing, if leading a boyband is the way to ensure the lights stay on, then he's going to do it 'till his heart gives out.
To start, I do think you're getting a little caught up in the semantics of the poll, but since you're making the case that "creator" is different from "father," I'll hear you out.
And tbh, I really like that interpretation. It's a little more nuanced from what I'm used to seeing, and it is giving me something to sink my teeth into.
Tumblr media
I do differ in that I don't think Neon J. personally made the toys or the base 1010: I felt like the implication of the MKI - MKIII standee was that 1010 has actually been around since the wartime era, since MKI 1010 are build more similarly to the recycled battlebots in the Metro Division. Parallel to that, I think it's implied that Neon J. is a cyborg due to suffering injuries in the war. Since they appeared to exist at the same time, it seemed more likely to me that 1010 and NJ's body originated from the same source, but not that NJ was necessarily the direct creator of either them or the toys. (Though, I will admit that knowing that the toy company is called "J-1" does imply that he has something to do with it. But to rectify that, I'm gonna say that he just bought out the company/factory, but he didn't start them.)
But that's just an argument of history. Both interpretations can still lead to the "creator" theory in the sense that NJ still views 1010 impersonally, but still fondly. Even if he didn't make the base, he still turned them into what they are today, which is still a lot of hard work and dedication to the craft.
It's not making him out to be this overly sentimental guy (which is ultimately what I dislike about most "father first" interpretations), but he's also not heartless, and I like that. It's retaining what many interpretations (including mine, sadly) sometimes miss out on, and that's that he's an artist, just like all the other stars. He values his craft, and 1010 are the result of that, for better or worse.

you ever in the middle of using an app and suddenly think damn i wish the way this app is built was industry practice. anyway i feel like we need to acknowledge that bilibili exists and has
no video ads
background play/in-window play/video download as default (read: NOT PAID) features
collaborative video credits so like you can upload a video and directly credit other users with their roles like editor/voice actor/etc. in the created by section
and youtube also exists and is the way that it is
#asto speaks#the ads thing has become more relevant recently but like i use opera so it wasnt exactly the Main FeatureTM for me but like#background play?? hello???#tbt that time last year when i was fully using bilibili as a music app bc theres a lot of lyn song covers you cant really find anywhere els#if youre wondering whats their business model they have homepage and sidebar ads#so i keep getting genshin and hsr ads on my bb lmao cuz bb has a bit of a reputation as like a platform for weebs and gamers#also they have like membership paywalled content so like all of link click is on bb but members only#bc like link click is essentially a bilibili original#which#hey what happened to youtube originals. anyway#the video credits thing is really interesting like it sounds very oddly specific but its *really* commonly used in certain sides of bb#like a lot of fansongs or just collaborative original songs get uploaded with like#uploader as main credit and then singer credits and editor credits#or like if a bunch of creators come together under like a “studio” or whatever and they have like a studio account#but also their own personal accounts then the studio account uploads can credit like#which specific creators in the collective worked on what parts of the video#ive seen some arknights like gameplay videos that work like this cuz there are like specific ak strategy groups that do like#challenge clears of levels so the strategy group will upload something and then credit like the editors separately and stuff#its really interesting! i just think its a neat feature

wild that ppl are still trying to do the whole 'he's supporting palestine to make her look bad' bc even if that's true (it isn't), she's had like two months since he posted on her birthday to come out and show her own support of palestine, stop "looking bad" and she still hasn't. seems like she just does not want to lmfao and the reaching by swifties up her ass is simply down to the fact that they can't make peace w the fact that she may not be a good person. she can be nice and pleasant and kind to anyone she meets but she's still silent about genocide
yeah honestly it’s pathetic lmao. but i guess swifties need something to try to bitch about with him and somehow *he’s* the one that is doing all the raising awareness for attention 🙄
exactly like you said- she can be kind and pleasant to people she meets irl…but that doesn’t make her a a good person lol. she’s still staying quiet about literally everything that doesn’t involve herself and that’s cowardice imo

little ramble about the mobility aid market, which is--as I am disappointed but not surprised to find--pretty terrible.
After being advised by a few people on this post to try out a mobility aid for fatigue I’ve started searching around for forearm crutches (I have no clue whether I’ll actually try it or if it would even help me since my big issue is fatigue and not mobility, but would like to know my options if I do) and it’s kinda ridiculous how few options there are for platform crutches? M+D crutches seem pretty good but they’re too expensive for me to feel like trying when I don’t even know if they’d help, and I’m only able to find like... MAYBE three other brands besides for platform crutches, all of which are also expensive and none of which are collapsible like many non-platform forearm crutches. I’ve thought about getting a collapsible cane but I don’t know how my hypermobile wrists would like that (and that also seems like it wouldn’t help as much for the fatigue), hence why I was looking at platform crutches which provide more weight-bearing support. sigh.

ngl the 2023 writerblr/ficblr climate is so bad....
#ujutxt#lol there's barely a community on here anymore#nobody is also actively reading fics#like there's a reason why so many of your favorite writers from the covid nctblr renaissance era are gone#it's because y'all decided to get lazier and lazier and stop reading fics#no hate to smaus or drabbles they're great#it's just that with the current gen z atmosphere there are too many consumers with the attention span of a worm#that nobody is willing to leave comments/feedback or put effort into consuming quality content#i've complained about this so many times but like for consumers to be so demanding yet do the bare minimum in return#isn't that a little unfair for the creatives who choose to do this all for free#just a food for thought#also with how rampant plagiarism is i get the want to be skeptical#i just hate that content farming has come to this...#all because y'all are so desperate for attention instead of writing for the sake of writing#or becoming a creative to produce art not want niche microcelebrity fame tf...#on god there's something wrong with children these days#it seems that virality is what drives people to do things instead of idk#actual interest in the hobby or topic#in the end i don't really care what you read because it's not like i can control that#people come here for escapism and although i won't judge you for reading filth on this platform just don't expect me to write it#there's just something in me that can't write it because every time i see the word cock i just laugh and can't take my work seriously

There’s been a trend I’ve noticed recently among many different content creators I follow - whether it be Youtube, Twitch, podcasters, or comic artists - where their weekly (and in some cases, daily) output has notably decreased, often citing things like fatigue, burnout, health issues, flagging passion, or wanting to focus a little more on their personal lives.
Of course none of this is objectionable in the slightest - the health and well-being of these artists takes priority! What’s struck me is how widespread this has become (or more realistically, how long its taken me to notice).
Because let’s be honest: have we all really just stopped and thought about how the internet has shuffled so much of the weight and responsibility for our day-to-day entertainment on just. Individual people?

Hi, was wondering if you have any other buffy podcasts you’d recommend besides becoming buffy? I’ve tried buffering but kind of got :/ about them after a while
Buffering is terrible. You aren't the only person who gave up on that podcast lol, there's more of us than you think!
The other Buffy podcast I love and I'm actually a producer on is Prophecy Girls. You can find them on Spotify, Apple or elsewhere. They're on all the podcast platforms. They're also on instagram, twitter, tiktok and here's their website!
