on one hand I wanna write my fic ideas wherein my marvel oc gets sent to the alternate universe of Gotham and hijinks ensue whilst she tries to survive and get back and the batfam and such slowly learn more info abt her world and how it's being threatened atm and she needs to go back and help and whatnot.

But on the other hand, the readers wouldn't know the marvel related backstory of this OC and would have. No context for her going in

But ALSO then the readers would know abt as much abt this mysterious figure as the batcrew do, and get to learn via flash backs and her slowly revealing info to them as safety allows

Then there's also just a general. Idk if there's any sort of oc etiquette when it comes to writing oc centered fics? My brain goes so hogwild when I read anything that I usually avoid oc fics other people write just bc I usually read and enjoy fics at face value but I also go "now what would happen if this OC was here?" And that gets real complicated when other people's ocs are involved

the idea i've been rotating in my head this week is a disco elysium inspired post order 66 cody fic.

cody wakes up and remembers nothing. not being a purge trooper, not anything before it. he has to figure out who the hell he is and what the fuck he's supposed to be doing.

the only problem is, he doesnt seem to live a life where its safe to ask questions. and he's got about 10 different people in his head all shouting different warnings, giving him cryptic hints, and telling him information that they think is helpful (none of it is particularly helpful)

as he starts to piece things together, things get even weirder, as nothing he knows adds up. its like he's piecing together two different men. but which one is he?

a key part of this is him uncovering awful things and being like. shit. i really did that? no wonder i made myself forget.

like in disco elysium, the voices in his head are all parts of his shattered psyche. unlike disco elysium, each of them take the form and use the voice of one of codys forgotten brothers, not that he has any idea.

theres a moment where he meets one of his brothers and he's like. what the shit. youre the guy in my head.

theres a scene soon after he wakes up where he walks in on a guy that past him was in the process of torturing and is like. 'buddy, do you know who i am?' its awkward as shit cause the guy is majorly scared of him and cody is really earnest and its just this absurd moment.

Im sorry that i keep coming back every half hour but i have more thoughts. One thing ive noticed on twitter mostly is that, when theyre unhappy with a story, people form 2 groups: those who start blaming the characters as if theyre real people, and those who jump straight to "happyele should fire akira". You can have nuance and find a middle ground of normal discussion without getting overly emotional in either direction. Sometimes a character's actions are telling of the writer's personal biases. Sometimes they're highlighting another trait of the character. There's a reason we have both Doylist and Watsonian frameworks of analysis. But i cant expect a huge fandom to sit down and have these conversations collectively.
