Uncharted Waters: To the Victor
Tumblr media
Aside from the market place, which stretched along two miles of  smooth road, there was plenty to see of Gaoling within walking distance. Katara was determined to see as much as she was able, and so took the lead to every park, garden and historical site she heard of.
“I didn’t grow up around a lot of monuments,” she told Zuko. “Until I left home, the oldest building I’d ever seen was only about 40 years old, and it wasn’t much to look at.”
“What about parks?” Zuko asked. “Or hiking trails?”
“Hiking trails?” Katara scrunched up her nose at that. Zuko told her about the hiking trails that went through the woods and mountains of the Fire Nation where people would take recreational trips.
“People would do that for fun?” Katara asked dubiously. “Just walk up mountains and through woods for fun?”
“Some of the trails could be really difficult,” Zuko explained. “But a lot of them weren’t much harder than walking up a hill. And there were beautiful views. Depending on where you were, you could see over the ocean, or fields of flowers, or cliffs. I’m not doing it justice, but if you saw one of those trails, you’d get it.” Katara shot him a look which suggested that she very much doubted she would get it. Zuko seemed very enthusiastic about hiking, though.
“I guess if my only experience doing it wasn’t for survival, I’d enjoy walking through the mountains, too,” Katara conceded at last. “There are beautiful places to see back home, too, but the views were more a bonus than the point. There are some places, like the glacier fields where you might not return from if you go in. The ice can shift without warning. There are forests further inland, too. With hot springs where we go to celebrate…well, a lot of different things.”
“There are forests?” Now it was Zuko’s turn to be incredulous. “I thought the Southern Tribe was all ice.”
“Nope,” Katara shook her head. “We have forests inland. That’s where we get wood for building our bigger boats. A lot of our rivers flow from there, too.”
“Why don’t you guys live there?” Zuko asked. “Wouldn’t it be easier?”
“Not really,” Katara pursed her lips thoughtfully. “The ocean is our connection to everything. All the animals we hunt have either live around the ocean or have to go there sometime. It’s also our connection to the rest of the world. And I guess calling what we have forests is kind of misleading. It’s not like….like the Foggy Swamp, or the island. There are trees, but not a lot of them. We have to be very careful not to overharvest them. We didn’t even really start using them for our boats until after the war. We don’t even use them for firewood unless we really have to.
“What do you use for fire then?”
“Driftwood, mostly. Dry grasses in the summer.”
“That sounds like such a difficult life.” Zuko frowned as he thought about what that life must have been like. No wonder Katara was so adept at living on the island.
“It was all I knew for most of my life,” Katara shrugged. “It works for us. And maybe we don’t hike for fun, but there’s still plenty to keep us entertained. We have penguin sledding, ice skating, and kayaking. There’s the story circle, and rock hopping-‘
“Rock hopping?” Zuko repeated. Katara’s face split into a wide grin as she described a dangerous sounding sport that had to do with leaping over crevasses and water onto whatever stone surface was close enough to reach. The further the stones a player could reach, the better they did.
“The best players tend to be our best hunters,” Katara told him. “It teaches you to be agile and light on your feet. I think you’d be pretty good at it, actually.”
“Well,” Zuko said shyly, “maybe someday I can visit and you can show me how to play.”
“It’s a deal!” Katara agreed.

random ms headcanons/rewrites me and lion came up with
Dante actively makes the people around him dumber when people are not around him their iq increases dramatically.
Travis and Dante like in the og try to get there friends to recreate videos they see online. They will try to get other friends to join with varying degrees of success however onetime Lion suggested that sometimes they get Zane to join. When they have the idea of just asking KC if they’d think it be cool if he’s recreate the video with him and inevitably he caves under pressure. The video that triggered this in question was one of guys kayaking down a small main made concrete canal. For anyone curious yes it goes well, yes Zane has fun.
Zane has to be watched carefully when they go to state fairs, not because he’s up to something but because the animals will actively try to follow him home.
These are like the few ideas I can remember that aren’t really spoiler-y and don’t go into to much detail about one specific scenario. (We had like an hour long conversation about what our versions of the characters would do at a state fair. And we came up with like an actual background storyline about the employees placing bets on whether or not Zane and KC are together and what not. But hey if you wanna hear more about our fucking- state fair headcanons I’ll spill. The others have to do with a character called Mocha, a little pit bull mix puppy. Yes she is Zane’s yes she is adorable. Lion will kill me if any harm comes to the fictional dog at any point.)

I got a lil story for you avout some unhinged kink shit. I was scrolling on youtube shorts, and came across one asking what's a red flag to have as a kink. And i checked the comments to what people were saying. Found this one comment from a girl who said that her bf at the time had a cnc kink that he started pressuring her into after she was SA'd, sometimes to the point that she was bleeding from how violent it was. She was 16 at the time. And one of the replies was all like " that's awful. But it's not the kink that's wrong, it's pressuring people into doing something they're not comfortable with. It would be just as bad to pressure someone into kayaking."
Like.. what? Yes it's the fucking kink! He started doing this shit to her after she was raped. That's fucking mental! Who can even compare THAT to kayaking?? Idk but asking someone to kayak with you it very different from raping your girlfriend.
She broke up with him luckily. But still, who reads a comment like that and thinks "i need to defend this mans kink"?
sexualizing rape is bad. thats honestly all there is to it. freaks try to defend it every which way but nothing they say holds any water when the core of it all is men seeking out women who have been traumatized by sexual assault and recreating it for his own sick pleasure.

Happy frenchie flash fic day! What if frenchie went kayaking (up to you who with)
How was Frenchie to know recreational kayaks had a weight limit significantly under Wee John's total mass? Fuck kayaks anyway, he thinks, fatphobic shit boats.
"We're going out together," a man who's suddenly appeared at Frenchie's side and about six inches below his sightline says. "My mate can't, too big."
"My mate too," Frenchie says mournfully. "We were going to say fuck it and drink."
"I think your mate and mine have said fuck it and gone off to drink together," the little man rasps. "I'm Israel. Izzy."
"I'm Frenchie. Ever been kayaking?"
"No, not once," Izzy says. "You?"
"Never," Frenchie says.
"Going to be a hell of a trip."

Stand Up Paddle boarding or SUP is a variation of traditional surfing but instead of lying prone on the surfboard and paddling with arms to get out to the surf zone, SUP surfing allows the participant to stand on the board from the shore and paddle out to the surf zone using a SUP paddle. You only need the water and a paddleboard with its paddle. You can either sit or stand on a paddleboard and this can be a great way to relax and enjoy the water or turn it into a good workout.
Wakeboarding
Wakeboarding can be a great choice for all skill levels. It may take a few times to get up on the board, but once you do, you will absolutely love it. Wakeboarding is a kind of water sport which is the rider will stand on a wakeboard (a board with foot bindings), is towed behind a motorboat across its wake and especially up off the crest in order to perform aerial maneuvers.
Jet-Skiing
Jet-Skiing is a fun water-based activity to practice during summer in almost all the bathing spots at the sea. Even if jet ski competitions exist, it is for the most part a recreational activity that will provide you with the right amount of adrenaline when riding little waves at a different speed, but also allow you to discover hidden bays and beautiful beaches, which are otherwise difficult to get to.
Fly-boarding
Fly-boarding is a water sport in which the participant stands on a board that is attached to a jet ski by a long hose. The jet ski provides the power to lift the participant into the air, where they can perform a variety of aerial maneuvers. Flyboarding is a relatively new sport, and it has become increasingly popular in recent years due to its thrilling, adrenaline-fueled experience.
Water Rafting
Rafting and whitewater rafting are recreational outdoor activities which use an inflatable raft to navigate a river or other body of water. This is often done on whitewater or different degrees of rough water. Dealing with risk is often a part of the experience. This kind of water sports are one of the extreme ones but it also fun for all the beginners as long as you choose the right path and know what to anticipate.
This kind of water sports are just some examples among the many water sports that we can enjoy. This can be a good guide to the first-time travelers to start soaring their dream adventures into their lives.

Hi, I've got some questions to ask if you don't mind.
What do you like to do in your free time? Basically asking what are your hobbies.
What food do you like?
I love questions 😅
My free time lately is spent reading and writing, and I currently have a lot of free time due to pregnancy. When I'm not pregnant, you'll find me in nature. I love paddleboarding, kayaking, swimming, and cleaning trash out rivers and lakes. On land, I love gardening and landscaping and hiking.
My boyfriend and I are both very active people and hate being trapped inside. We like to go places and do things alone together or with our friend groups. He's also very um.... friendly with a certain plant, so we like to take trips where he can legally partake in some recreational activities and still enjoy the beauty of the Mother Nature. California, Oregon, and Colorado are our absolute favorite places to go in the states.
I'm also very lucky. I live in a state that has one of the top zoos in the US, so he tries to take me to the zoo as often as possible.
Im from the midwest *narrowing down which state Im in may be pretty easy now 😅* so i was raised on good ol beef and corn, but I'd consider myself an adventurous eater. I honestly can't narrow down an absolute favorite category. But I can give you a top five! Ethiopian, Greek, Indian, Thai, and Japanese. I like bold flavors and spices, and I'll try most things at least once. My favorite thing I've had to eat would be sea urchin, which is fairly common for some people in their diets, but it definitely wasn't for me. It's almost very custard-like in texture, and I can't really explain the taste. It's almost buttery but kind of sweet but still has that brine/sea flavor. In a summary, I love food.

If you are a waterfront property owner, a floating dock can be a great addition to your property. Floating docks are becoming increasingly popular for several reasons. They are easy to install and take down, they require minimal maintenance, and they can adapt to fluctuating water levels.
In this article, we will look at what a floating dock is, its benefits, and some of the factors you should consider when choosing a floating dock.
What is a Floating Dock?
A floating dock is an attachment in the form of a platform, walking bridge or mooring that is floating on the water surface with a buoyancy system. It is different from a fixed dock, which is anchored to the shore and does not move with the water level.
A floating dock consists of a frame that is made of plastic, aluminum, or wood, and floats that help support the structure. The structure is then attached to pilings that are driven into the bottom of the waterbody, providing a stable base. https://linktr.ee/dustingriffin
Benefits of a Floating Dock
Ease of installation – Unlike fixed docks, floating docks are easy to install and do not require heavy equipment or skilled personnel.
Adaptability – Floating docks can adjust to the water level's rise and fall, as the buoyancy system is designed to keep the dock level with the water.
Minimal maintenance – Floating docks require less maintenance than fixed docks since they are not in direct contact with the waterbed.
Portability – Floating docks can be moved easily from one location to another, making them an excellent choice for recreational purposes or for seasonal use.
Factors to consider when choosing a Floating Dock
Size – Before purchasing a floating dock, you need to consider the size that will fit your needs. Consider how many boats or kayaks you will need to accommodate and leave ample space for walking.
Material – The material you choose should withstand the elements and be durable. Aluminum and plastic are great options as they require minimal maintenance and will last long.
Buoyancy system – The buoyancy system should be able to support the weight of the dock and any additional weight added to the dock, such as boats.
Accessibility – Ease of access is essential when considering a floating dock. You should consider adding a ramp or stairs to allow easy access.
Conclusion
A floating dock is a great addition to any waterfront property. It provides a stable base for launching and mooring boats and watercraft while minimizing maintenance requirements. When choosing a floating dock, consider the size, material, buoyancy system, and ease of accessibility. With careful consideration of these factors, you can find a floating dock that will suit your needs and enhance your waterfront property.

New Zealand - A camping Paradise
Tumblr media
When we think of camping, what's the first picture that comes to mind? Some would think of tents lined up in a mountain landscape, others would think of a walking trail passing through a deep forest while still some others would think of having a relaxing time near a crystal-clear lake or walking through a coastal beach. Regardless of the image associated with camping, everyone would say that without the right accessories, such a trip is incomplete.
If you are thinking of having a thrilling and adventurous camping experience, you should be aware of the best camping locations around the world. In this context, one must admit that of all the countries of the world, New Zealand has the best camping sites that are simply stunning.  In this article, we would shed some light on some of these locations and the camping gear required to make the best out of a camping trip. Inflatable tents in NZ would probably be one of the first items in the list. So without further ado, here are three awesome locations in New Zealand that you should definitely check out.
Waiheke Island: A gorgeous island that would make one feel like it's emerged right out of a Disney movie, the Waiheke Island has some fantastic landscapes. The Island has a long coastal stretch that is about 40 km long. The turquoise island waters look pristine with its beautifully transparent view. You could go for canoeing in the clean waters and appreciate the beautiful scenery all around. Else, you could set up tents or gazebos almost anywhere in the island enjoying the surrounding view at the same time. Make sure they have height-adjustable poles for ventilation and veranda awnings for relaxing inside or sunbathing outside the tent. You would come across a long walking trail, approximately 100 km, on the Waiheke Island. Make sure to pack the right hiking shoes that are suitable for a beach walk.
Urupukapuka Bay Campsite: You are likely to see a lot of reefs, clear waters, sandy beaches, and diverse flora and fauna like the unique Paradise duck. The island is ideal for those who want to get away from civilization and bask in the nature. The island is quite well preserved and you would find some good archaeological sites to explore. The Urupukapuka Bay Campsite is the largest campsite on the island where people usually come with their families to spend quality time having recreational activities like fishing and kayaking. One would come across a lot of inflatable tents in NZ camped around the place.
Lake Wanaka: Highly recommended by tourists, Lake Wanaka is a marvellous camping destination. The lake is more than 40 km long and is surrounded by a breath-taking view of mountains and valleys. If you are a Lord of the Rings fan, you must have seen the lake in the movies. The Wanaka Lake is home to several resorts and camping sites where people set up base to explore the region. Adventure sports like river rafting in the fast-flowing rivers attract a lot of people. You could go for a hike on the Mt. Aspiring National Park which is highly popular for backpacking and mountaineering. Within the Wanaka region lies the Cardrona river valley where you would find some reclusive areas to have an alone and introspective stay. Camping enthusiasts should not miss out on the incredible experience of the region at all.

HEART'S FATE - CHAPTER 5
Tumblr media
*Warning: Adult Content*
The five-mile bike ride to ‘Lake Arbor’ should be beyond the abilities of a seven-year-old but as young wolves, Rio and Nico have more than the usual levels of stamina and strength.
As a grown wolf, the same should be true of their father, Martin Hunter but he can barely catch his breath to shout after his children as they ditch their push bikes in a heap and dash towards the water, tackle boxes and fishing poles in hand.
"Hey, you guys. Stick together and don't go too far."
A distant and semi-exasperated ‘Yes, Dad!’ tells him that at least his daughter Flora had heard him.
After chaining the bikes to a tree, Martin takes a moment to catch his breath before striking off through the trees in pursuit.
Lake Arbor is much smaller than ‘Spring Lakes Reservoir’ but much closer to town and much quieter.
Motored boats are banned from its clean, spring-fed waters and as a result, it's popular with those seeking quieter forms of outdoor recreation.
Even this late in the season, with autumn's chill in the air and the leaves turning yellow and red, there are people walking dogs along the shore-line trail, paddling kayaks and canoes beneath the open sky, fishing in the shadowed coves and swimming in the cold clear waves.
The Hunter children have a favorite spot, an old wooden dock that juts out into deep water.
At this time of day it's in full sun and not the best place to fish but the kids don't really care about catching anything.
They just like to play with the tackle, cast their lines and watch the bobbers bob until they get bored.
Then they'll reel it in, pack it up, eat their peanut-butter and jelly sandwiches and spend the rest of the afternoon skipping stones, playing along the shore and paddling in the shallows if it gets warm enough to swim.
Meanwhile, Martin brought along a plain old pad of paper and a pen, hoping to at least get some notes jotted down as he watches them.
He doesn't dare bring his laptop anywhere so close to water. It's his livelihood and it if breaks he’s screwed.
When he emerges from the trees, he see Miguel settling in with his art supplies at a picnic table close to the shore, while Flora carefully leads Nico and Rio out to 'the fishing spot.'
He smiles as he watches her help them open their little tackle boxes and deftly fasten de-barbed hooks on their lines.
"Need any help?" Martin asks, as he join them where they're gathered at the end of the dock. Flora shakes her head without looking up.
"No, Daddy. You always end up pricking your fingers, remember? I got it."
"Alright, alright. Just be careful. And you two listen to your big sister, okay?"
Answered with a three-part chorus of ‘Okay’ Martin heads back to the shore to find a comfortable place to sit.
Fishing keeps the kids occupied longer than he'd expected but he can't say the same for his notes.
As the minutes stretch on, his mind remains as blank as the paper.
Giving in to the fatigue that seems as ever-present as his shadow these days, he sets it aside and shuts his eyes.
With his back leant against a tree, the sun on his face, and the children within easy earshot, it's the perfect moment to catch up on forfeited sleep but he’s barely drifted off when a voice pulls him back from the brink.
"Martin?"
Grimacing against the bright light, he looks up at a tall, athletic figure silhouetted against the sky.
Then his eyes adjust and he sees it's none other than 'Skylar' himself  and in his half muddled state, he accidentally speak his thoughts aloud.
"What the hell are you doing here?"
Skylar frowns slightly, his sea-green eyes shadowed by long, pale lashes.
"I often come here. The open water is less confining than a pool and chlorine disagrees with my skin."
As he speaks, Martin registers the fact that he's dressed only in a pair of rather small, form-fitting swim trunks, with a towel slung over his shoulder and his long hair in a braid.
With nothing to stop them, Martin’s eyes roam Skylar’s smooth, muscled torso and somehow he finds myself staring at his belly button.
"Are you unwell?" Skylar asks.
The question jolts Martin back to himself and his eyes snap up to meet the handsome young art teacher.
Oddly, he is staring at his chest and fiddling with his necklace, which seems like an odd piece of jewelry to wear for a swim.
“I'm fine," he says, a little defensively, as he pushes himself to his feet.
"Just getting a nap in while the kids play."
Skylar continues to stare for a moment, then turns away abruptly, looking along the shore to where Flora and the younger twins now splash in the shallows, having finally tired of fishing.
"You leave them unattended so close to the water?" he asks.
"Flora and Miguel are old enough to watch their brothers. They're careful and responsible," Martin says.
"Besides, they're all good swimmers and they know to stay in shallow water, where it's safe."
Skylar arches a golden brow at Martin.
"No water is entirely 'safe' my dear. You never know what dangers lurk beneath the surface."
Martin blinks, taken aback but before he can sort out whether he had misheard him or if he's actually being extremely weird and condescending, Skylar turns and walks towards the lake.
Pausing only to drape his towel over a small boulder, he strides into the water until it reaches his thighs, then dives headfirst beneath the waves.
Martin watches as he darts away, sleek as a fish, before surfacing and breaking into a swift, graceful freestyle.
As Skylar quickly gains distance, Martin understands why he'd find a pool confining, he swims at professional racing speed.
Shaking his head, Martin wanders over to check on Miguel, who's still absorbed with his art.
Then, still a little unnerved by the handsome art teacher's words, he walks out along the dock, from whence he can keep an eye on Flora and the twins.
‘Handsome’ Martin repeats in his head and scoffs at himself as he shields his eyes and looks out across the lake.
Martin: ‘Gorgeous’ is more like it and I'd do well not to think such words again, not that I'm in any danger of letting my heart lead me astray a second time.’
Martin’s ex-wife, Elena, had been gorgeous, too.
Martin: ‘Gorgeous and charming and so far out of my league.’
Martin had felt like the luckiest man on earth when she turned her brilliant eyes on him.
She hadn't always been cruel either, though in retrospect he suppose there were signs.
She was quick to anger, quick to blame, cutting in her criticism and seldom truly kind but he'd been genuinely in love with her ‘or so he'd thought’ and found it easy enough to see past these 'minor faults’.
If they had stayed her ‘only faults’ Martin might have still be in love with her now.
Flora and Miguel were born barely a year after their Mating and ‘as he now understands’ that was part of Elena's plan.
Once she knew that he'd die for them, she had him in iron chains.
Then, gradually, she'd let her true nature show.
Slowly, with looks and words, little everyday cruelties, she broke him down.
By the time she finally hit him, she had convinced Martin that he deserved it.
Martin: ‘I'll never trust my heart again. It aches a little even now, as I gaze across the sparkling water beneath the cobalt sky, feeling like a man out of time as the world spins beneath my feet.’
Turning back towards the shore, he realizes the spinning sensation is dizziness and curses himself for skipping breakfast.
There'd only been enough milk and cereal for the kids and he'd planned to go shopping this morning but...
Unable to ignore the creeping darkness at the corners of his vision any longer, Martin accepts that he’s about to pass out.
Reaching to steady myself, he grasps thin air, pitches to the side and shut his eyes in surrender as the cold silence welcomes him with a watery embrace.
