the funny-sad thing is that there IS a conflict going on right now that IS ethically clear-cut, comic book tier good vs. evil where the us/europe have a big role to play and you Could throw all your energy into canceling the bad guys (who, for once, are not and have never been a historically oppressed group) and anyone who affiliates with them and pressure your officials into taking proper action and get your quick moral superiority dopamine all you want, but that likely won't annoy your parents, so

folks in light of the recent news I think it's good to keep in mind that the ICC does NOT have the power to, on its own, actually prosecute vladimir putin for war crimes.
yes, there was an arrest warrant, but because russia is NOT currently a state party to the rome statute (the founding treaty of the ICC) and the court does not have a police force of its own, it can't actually enforce the warrant they put out without cooperation of a state party.
that's something you can read more about in the ICC website, but i.e. unless putin actually visits one of the state parties of the ICC, himself, the warrant by itself is only a symbolic gesture. as much as we all wish to see him pay for what he's done, let's not get misled by reading only the headlines.

One interesting thing about this circus coup was what putin did when Prigozhin cornered him/put him under pressure. For so long, we keep hearing "don't give Ukraine weapons, putin might escalate", "don't poke the bear, putin might escalate", "if putin gets cornered, he might escalate." Prigozhin cornered putin, he put pressure on putin, and what did putin? He gave in. He made a deal. He did not escalate when cornered. He backed off.
In other words, give Ukraine all the weapons they need and do not fear escalation. putin is weak.

if I had a nickel for every time a world war started because Russia was fighting over Poland, I'd have two nickels, which isn't a lot but I hope it doesn't happen thrice.
