I know we are all used to getting second-hand embarrassment from F1 interviewers because they ask dumbass questions all the time. But this time was too much like why would he say that 😭😭😭😭
Lance ate him up and rightfully so. I have no journalism experience and I feel like I could do a better job asking questions that aren't condescending to the drivers

SPOILERS FOR "ELEMENTAL"
Tumblr media
Okay so I just watched the new elemental movie and it made me realize something very interesting
Now, I'm not going to get into the plot or the side stories or the fact that movie is just OBSESSED with everyone's dad
What I'm here to talk about it the fact that this movie actually has the 2 main characters utter the words "I love you" to eachother and that got me thinking
I have NEVER once heard the love interests in a disney movie say those words. Like- NOT ONCE- Seriously!
Rapunzel and Flynn: Never said it just got married
Cinderella and the Prince: Never said it, just got married
Jasmine and Aladdin: Never said it, just got married (I have since been corrected!)
Sleeping beauty: Girly is literally in a coma for most of the movie
Snow white and Prince: Guy kisses a 12 year old's corpse, gets married to her and never says a word
And then there are the cases where one of them says it but they never once say it to eachother
Beauty and the beast: Belle says it while her man is literally dying, like–??? He says he loves her in a different scene but they don't say it to eachother
Ariel and Eric: She says she loves him to her father but Eric he never says it
Tiana and Naveen: She says she loves him he never says it back (he says he loves her in a different scene when she isn't there)
Hercules and Meg: Meg had a whole ass song about it but they never said it to eachother
And there's a bajillion other examples
This was just like a total culture shock to me. It's actually incredible that almost all the disney movies, which center around love and couples, never have the two characters who are MEANT TO BE TOGETHER say even a single "love ya shawty" "Aww radical, love ya too bb"

i personally have adhd and watching fourteen in wild blue yonder was like watching myself when i'm not trying hard to mask it:
the overreaction from being overwhelmed and not in control of a stressful situation? then immediately apologising for yelling? check
screaming and hitting or kicking the walls when emotional? check
being unable to stop yourself from talking a mile a minute or going on tangents even when you're in a situation where you shouldn't be? check
finishing sentences? check
talking to yourself constantly? check
wild hand gestures and pacing? check
easily excited/passionate about things? check
etc etc
people have written incredible think pieces about the doctor being neurodivergent across all their reincarnations, and honestly it makes so much sense

Iron Widow Book Review
★★★★★ ~ 5 out of 5 stars
Due to its popularity on Tiktok and Tumblr, I have long heard rumors about Xiran Jay Zhao’s Iron Widow. I tend to be skeptical about social media hype, but after a friend recommended it to me personally, I added it to my to-read list, forgot about it for like a year, and then promptly remembered it when I was figuring out what books to read for my 2023 reading challenges. And as soon as I started reading, I was like, “Oh shit. I should’ve read this sooner.”
Iron Widow lives up to the hype. Actually, it smashes through the hype and goes way past what I expected. Set in a futuristic alternative universe based on Chinese history and mythology, Iron Widow follows Xu Zetian as she volunteers to be a concubine-pilot, a deadly but supposedly necessary role required to power Chrysalises, which are basically giant supersuits used to fight off aliens. Concubine-pilots usually die in the process of powering Chrysalises, though their families are heavily compensated for this sacrifice. At the beginning of Iron Widow, Zetian is desperate to get vengeance for her sister was forced to become a concubine-pilot by their family - and then murdered by a male pilot before she could. (Interestingly enough, piloting the Chrysalises is not deadly for men - usually.) So Zetian volunteers with the ulterior motive of killing her sister’s murderer and quickly finds out that everything she knows - about the piloting system, gender and social dynamics, about the war - is a lie.
Although the patriarchy is a primary antagonist in Iron Widow, not every man in the book sucks  sucks; in fact, Zetian manages to find not one but two love interests in Gao Yizhi, the son of the richest man in the country, and Li Shimin, a man who murdered his whole family (for good reasons, he’s valid) and is only being kept alive because he’s the best damn pilot in the war. As a hater of love triangles and a lover of fellow bisexual men, I am pleased to report that Yizhi and Shimin are also very interested in each other.
Iron Widow contains such a nuanced and fascinating take on how the patriarchy fucks over everyone. Zetian is understandably upset with the way women are treated, but she learns over the course of the novel that things aren’t all sunshine and roses for men, either. This does not diminish her passion for fighting for women (and indeed, it is never really poised as a competition of who has it worse; it’s pretty clear that it’s by-and-large worse for women), but it allows her to see men as fellow humans rather than inherently The Enemy.
Zetian is also disabled, having had her feet broken and bound from a young age to turn them into ‘lotus feet’, which are considered beautiful in her culture. She has trouble walking, even with the aid of a cane, and she constantly feels pain in her feet. This is a central aspect of her character, not an afterthought, and it’s woven into the novel thoughtfully. It parallels and interweaves with the novel’s exploration of gender and gendered expectations - much like Zetian cannot be reduced to the caricature of womanhood expected of her, nor can she be reduced to a caricature of her physical disability. Instead, the integration of these aspects into her character are complex. Her successes are not in spite of her womanhood and her bound feet, but because of them, and that makes her all the richer as a protagonist.
I love Iron Widow, and I’m happy to recommend it with a full 5 out of 5 stars. Its sequel, Heavenly Tyrant, comes out in August, and I can’t wait to read it. Xiran Jay Zhao, Iron Widow’s author, is here on Tumblr (@/xiranjayzhao) and they have already posted some Heavenly Tyrant memes to tide me over until then. (And if you like authors commenting on their books outside of the text, then I recommend following their Tumblr after you’ve finished Iron Widow.)

Hi!!! I’m bombarding your blogs with late-night thoughts/Scenarios again (hope u don’t mind :(( )
Just thinking about the trope “he fells inlove too late” alot lately. It just makes my heart aches so much and a good way to make yourself cry to sleep…
I imagine this with Lucifer, Belphie and Asmo alot, and my reasoning is this. With luci, he attempted to kill us three times…Ik he was only doing that to protect his family…? But i just know for sure that Mc (at least mine) can’t keep the crush on for long after those events. And Asmo, i mean…flirting and affection is kinda his thing yk? So you wouldn’t know of he was serious about flirting with u or not and well it’s hard to tell if u really have a chance lol. And Belphie, *cough* lesson 16 *cough*
And that trope could actually fit the whole LIs now that i think about it lol
Dearest anon, I do not mind. I never mind. Please feel free to leave all the thoughts and/or scenarios in my ask box. However, I am a touch concerned about crying yourself to sleep on purpose? I hope you’re doing all right!
Anyway, I know sometimes the ache just hurts so good. And wow you’re getting me with this idea.
I definitely think you could make it apply to any of the characters, but I like the ones you chose, too.
It’s interesting in the context of the other characters, too. I mean with Lucifer, if MC lost interest in him because of his death threats, they would almost certainly find another brother immediately. My first thought is Mammon. And then I’m like how would Lucifer feel if he realized he was in love with MC too late, after they’ve already given up on him and now they’re with Mammon? Like yeah he’d be happy for them because he knows how happy that’d make them both, but ouchies.
I think Asmo is an interesting option, too. Because I really like to think of it as maybe Asmo has never had feelings quite as deep as the ones he has for MC. And it isn’t that he fell too late, but more that he didn’t know what to do with them or perhaps didn’t even recognize them for what they were. I like to think Asmo never really got into a deep or long relationship until MC showed up. Then suddenly it was like who is this and why do I feel this way about them? But maybe it took him too long to figure it out and now MC has moved on…
Belphie is a lost cause, I think. I know there are some Belphie lovers and some Belphie haters. But that boy killed MC. And by the time MC sets him free, they could have fallen in love with any one of his brothers. Even after that, it takes a little time for Belphie to finally make a pact with MC, too. Perhaps MC just can’t get over what happened. My MC has that issue for a while. I think my MC could give Belphie a chance, but it’d take a long time and there are other characters they’d fall in love with faster. It’s an interesting concept though. Like if none of the other characters were meant to be for whatever reason and by the time MC is fully comfortable with Belphie again, they start to realize they’re falling in love with him.
Oops sorry I got a little off track.
Anyway, this is indeed an excellent source of angst!
