Marriage of State AU Character Designs: The Mad King of Mezalea
Joel actually has three major looks through the course of the AU; Prince of Mezalea, Trophy Husband, and King Joel, with the subcategories of "armor" for each.
They all have the same base design of "human", differing by (apparent) age and general sense of style.
Some Joel Skins to start us off and provide the base we're working off of, and also the Mezalean banner because color pallet
And also, because it is actually relevant, (bear with me here) some samples of Mezalean architecture.
The Matral Palace and the Villager area.
Based off of Joel's final skin, the vibe is kind of "Victorian military dress uniform" however there is something very, very important to take into consideration from a worldbuilding perspective.
The Mesa is a warm weather biome. Its a colorful desert. Which means high temperatures during the day and cold at night. So tight-fitting, thick fabrics in a Victorian style would be incredibly impractical.
So we turn to the second possible source for fashion inspiration: The architecture, which gives mostly Byzantine vibes.
So what would Byzantine clothing look like, especially for nobility?
First off, taking into account that the Byzantine Empire lasted for approximately a thousand years and, naturally, underwent some dramatic changes in clothing style during that time, we'll pick a specific vibe out of the options. I settled on a bit of a mix between Early Byzantine (think the Theodora Mosaic shown below) and Middle Byzantine (see the mosaic of Emperor Constantine IX below)

(General disclaimer: yes, Pintrest has an art theft problem, yes Pintrest is much harder to effectively use now due to the pervasiveness of ads on everything, no I don't use it for like, formal things. It remains one of the best ways to collect visual references and figuring out The Vibes)
(Yes, we get to go full Material Gworl vibes for the Mezalean King, as is only right and proper.)
General characteristics I'm adopting here for Mezalean clothing:
Brocade (and bejeweled) kaftan/kaftan-esque outer layer. This is a formal wear thing, and is absolutely a "showing off the wealth" power move.
Lots of Big Chunky Colorful Jewelry
I don't know what it's actual name is, but that general style of having jeweled tassel-like things hanging from the front sides of the crown/headdress.
Light-weight and loose fitting under-layers.
And of course, bright colors.
Prince Joel: Before he became part of the main cast in an epic fantasy adventure spanning several hundreds of years and an entire continent (and the adjacent ocean) Joel was the youngest of three princes with two older brothers who were both married and had kids.
Which is to say, it did not look like he would ever be the king.
His role in the kingdom was very much that of an ambassador to and direct connection to their people. He spent a lot of time working on fishing boats and in the mines and quarries. While he did receive a standard royal education on things like diplomacy and combat, international interactions were not his focus at all, much more involved in the day to day operations of his own home. (And yes, that is a very vital aspect of the idea of "royalty" in general, supposedly, and that being a particular point of Joel's upbringing will make more sense when I get around to writing and posting the post about how royalty functions in the Empires. tldr; its related to the whole thing where Pixlriffs accidentally redefined "war")
Basically, Prince Joel = the first skin, the simple green one. He's wearing more lightweight, practical clothes that allow him to engage in physically demanding dirty work without costing a fortune every day. He still dresses up for formal events, but he doesn't even attend all of those and he is far from a daily sight in court.
Trophy Husband: For a couple hundred years, Joel didn't live in Mezalea. Instead, he was one half of the chronological first arranged marriage in the "au in which all the marriages are arranged" situation. And this one was the one that most resembles the set-up of a generic "period" bodice-ripper novel (though that is not how it played out ultimately, for the parties involved, despite the romance that does happen.)
Basically, this is his War Prize Era. In which Lizzie won a husband in combat and then didn't really know what to do with him.
During this time period, Joel mostly wore ocean styled clothing, though during formal occasions he would wear a notable amount of Mezalean accessories, that were part and parcel of the treaty with him. (I'm trying so hard not to derail this into just a breakdown of the events of the Joel & Lizzie arc of the au im trying so hard)
He did tend to mix Oceanic and Mezalean clothing, due in part to Oceanic clothing being primarily designed for underwater wear, while he lived above the surface, finding the balance of practicality and appearances demanded by the political nature of his existence at the time. (Also a personal comfort thing as Mezalean clothing tended to afford more skin coverage and also had shoes) Once he and Lizzie were more comfortable both in the world and with each other he had more opportunities for personalization and tended towards Mezalean styles in oceanic colors. He did develop a significant appreciation for the Oceanic idea of skin-tight under-layers for water travel.
King Joel: He did end up back in Mezalea as king, which is when we hit the style closest to the second skin, which mostly for this is really an indicator of color scheme. Formally, he is now wearing the full Kaftan and Jewelry look, day to day its more of "colorful, simple, and lightweight" because he still is very active in the day to day commerce of his empire. He does usually wear significantly more jewelry than he did as a prince, he grew a taste for it during his trophy husband era XD. The details of his day-to-day wear are also fancier. finer fabrics, more embroidery, brocade hems, etc.
Most of his earrings are gifts from Lizzie, some in Oceanic colors, some in Mezalean, but all with little chips of prismarine to remind him of her even when she can't be there.
Armor: Joel's armor preferences are simple netherite plate. He also does have a ceremonial trident, as a member of the Oceanic royal family. His is gold-plated.

This is a very long post just so you all know
Everything is under the cut
The Hero of the Seas (:
My Link would probably fit sometime after Wind Waker, when there are still seas and actual pirates. I guess that I will start with the backstory
Before they were born, at least five hundred years, there was a prophecy, though, through the years, the prophecy has been lost to time.
The only part that Hyrule remembers is,
“A forsaken prince will redefine what it takes to be a hero”
Soon after that prophecy was heard, the king of Hyrule made a law that stated that any and all Gerudo princes were to be treated as royalty.
Time skip to soon after my Link’s birth, the current king of Hyrule disregarded the law and set it aside as if it never existed. This king put a bounty on the newly born Gerudo prince.
When Link was five, his home was stormed and raided by pirates. Link’s mother was murdered and he was stolen.
These pirates were only the first ones to see them out of many. They were traded, bartered, and sold into slavery many times until they were fifteen years old. When they were fifteen, another pirate crew bought them, though, they treated them like they were a human. They fed them nicely, told them thank you, they even cleaned and cooked their own stuff. It took them a full year to realize that they were free and that this crew bought them to free them of their shackles, even though they took off the chains as soon as he left the auction.
It took them a while to learn how to love and to learn how to smile again.
Their adventure started when they were seventeen. It started when the crew bought another slave. They looked to be Link’s age and they never spoke. They told the crew, in sign, that their name was Faro. It took a full month for them to speak, but when they did, it was in private with Link.
“It’s you, isn’t it?” Link’s eyebrows furrowed at the new, foreign voice.
“I’ve never heard you speak before…”
“You’re that forsaken prince, aren’t you?” At this point, Link had no idea of the prophecy. He’d never heard of it before.
“I’m no prince, Faro. I was a slave until two years ago, princes do not scrub decks.”
“The world has forsaken a Gerudo prince. You are the forsaken prince.” Faro extended their hand to Link. “I need you more than anything right now.”
Link looked around the deck. It was the dead of night. Link and Faro were on night watch tonight. It was just the two of them tonight. Link wondered if this is what Faro came here for, just for him.
“What do you need me for?”
“The king is a tyrant. I only recently found out why he disregarded such an important law.”
Link tilted his head. “What law?”
Faro stood up straight and looked at Link with dumbfounded eyes. “What do you mean, “What law?!” That law would’ve protected you! You’d still have your family if my father was such a-“ Faro paused.
“Your…father?” There was a strict rule on the ship. A rule everyone knew but didn’t speak of. Pirates are outlaws. If any royal found out that pirates had bought the princess, their ship would sink in hours. The Marines were no joke. They did not allow anyone important on this ship, no matter how much they said that they would pay.
Faro grabbed Link’s shoulders. “Please! He is tearing this kingdom apart and we need a hero to stop him!”
“I’m no hero! The ones you compare me to all fought a Gerudo man named Ganondorf! If you really needed a hero, go find a Hylian to do it!”
Faro let go of Link. They took a deep breath before get on one knee in front of Link. Faro grabbed Link’s hand and pressed the back of it to their forehead. “Please, Link. I truly believe that you are the only one who can defeat him. Just please, you must help me…”
Link felt a tingle on the back of his hand and drew his hand away from Faro. Sitting a beautiful gold on the back of his hand, were three triangle. The one on the bottom right glowed brighter than the other two. He stared at it in awe. “…What?”
Faro jumped up and cheered. “I was right! It is you!” They laughed and giggled, but Link stared at his hand, a feeling of giddiness and dread filling him to the brim.
“What is this?”
“The triforce of courage Link! You are the next hero of Hyrule!”
Faro told the crew about everything on the next day, it didn’t help that the triangle still glowed brightly on his hand.
“Well, as I hear it, the king tried to murder his next hero. Why?” Nan, basically the crew’s mom, asked.
“Because he is the one the hero must fell.”
Link turned to Faro, his confusion evident on his face. “Aren’t the heroes supposed to serve the king?”
“There is a lot of things wrong about my father. One of those things are his name. His name wasn’t originally Rhodes. It’s a family secret, but he was born with the name Ganondorf.”
Nan hummed. “So the king needs to be dethroned. Tell me, Faro, does that mean that you’ll be leaving us after this?”
Faro sighed. “I would love to stay, really, but this kingdom needs a ruler. I don’t trust my father’s advisers with the throne. I find that my duty is more important.”
Link nodded, a new fire in his eyes. “Where do I start?”
Nan scoffed. “You mean, “Where do we start?”
Fast forward through two of his temples and puzzles and he now stands inside a water temple, the ship near the opening of the cave.
He defeated the boss and opened the chest. He saw a bracelet with what looked like a sapphire embedded on it. It was shiny, maybe made of silver. He could sell this for a good amount of money.
“What is that?” Faro asked beside him.
“You would think that I know?”
“Put it on…?”
Link thought about it for a few seconds before putting it on. Nothing happened. He even felt like the silver and blue didn’t match his darker skin ton. Gold paired with it better.
“So…?”
“Noth-!” Link stood up and grabbed Faro’s hand. They dragged Faro out of the way. Where they stood, a wave of water hit. The splash hit the both of them.
The two of them blinked more times than they could count. “…Did the water just attack us?” Faro asked. Link shrugged.
“The ship.” Link said as they made their way toward the ship.
Link explored this bracelet and found that it was an old relic of the Zora’s. It used to be a Zora heirloom. Did he return it? No. It was a very helpful item. Maybe he’d give it back after his adventure…anyways-
Link’s final fight took place inside Hyrule Castle. His crew stayed at the docks.
Nan decided that she was too old to lead a crew of pirates mid adventure, so she declared that Link was the new Captain.
The king knew that Link was coming, and yet, the king was alone in the throne room. The king laughed, stating that he couldn’t be the hero of he didn’t wield the sword of legend. He said that Link was too scared to touch it because Link knew that he had that same darkness inside him that the sword banished.
In truth, Link drew the sword, he was just better with his usual weapon, which was a double edged staff.
But don’t forget, Link had to go to Gerudo for a temple. They met their sisters and heard the whole story behind his childhood suffering. He knew that all of his problems, all of his trauma, was this king’s fault.
They fought with a straight face the entire time, letting all of that anger and frustration and pain that he held within their twelve year old body out.
He decapitated the king. It was an accident, but it felt so right.
Faro took the throne and left the crew. They were apparently called “Zelda” to the rest of the kingdom.
Link lead his crew through storms and sea monster attacks. Link knew that the crew loved monster hunting, so that’s what they became. His crew became monster hunters who slayed the horrid monsters that threatened the seas that Link called his home. It had been a year since his adventure ended when it happened.
Link stared at the ceiling. It was night, probably midnight. He should be asleep right now. The monster that they had just fought required him to go under water. The Zora bracelet allowed him to breathe underwater as long as he wore it, that wasn’t the problem. It was how much he had used the bracelet to command the water around him. It took a toll on his body. However, it wasn’t a big one, it only made him tired.
He heard a knock on the door before one of his crew mates opened it. It was Jasper, his right hand man. He was on night watch tonight.
“You might wanna see this Capt’n.” Link was on his feet in seconds.
“What is it?”
Link and Jasper stood on the deck. In front of them, on the firm wooden boards was a triangular shape. Link stepped closer to it and walked around it.
“It looks like a portal of some kind…?” Link mumbled to himself. It was a swirl of purple and black. It also blowed an ominous purple. It almost looked like the stereotypical poison.
“That’s what I was thinking.” Jasper said. “It’s been here for quite some time now. What should we do about it?”
“I’m going to go inside of it.” Something was pulling Link toward the portal.
“Wha-“ Jasper sighed. “Okay, just bring weapons and potions with you. You don’t know where it’ll take ya.”
Link chuckled. “I take my staff everywhere I go. Don’t worry about me.”
So, Link gathered his stuff. Potions and their weapons and some spare clothes and stepped through the ominous darkness of the portal.

Writer's Log: Back to the Basics
(Time - 12:30AM) "Just about an hour ago, I posted what I'm guessing ended up being probably a very poorly written post announcing that I am going to be rewriting The Strength and The Sight.
Now, here I am, already scribbling out my first "writer's log".
I guess finally putting my rewriting announcement out there took a massive weight off of my shoulders. It's quite relieving and I find myself being able to think about Cuphead again without becoming anxious.
But, now here's the real hard part of what I've set out to do: Actually rewriting The Strength and The Sight.
It's both exhilarating and utterly terrifying. I get to start over, which sucks, but I get to do so with all of the knowledge I've gained along the way.
So, I guess it's time to kick off these writer's logs- which if you didn't know, are going to be me documenting my process of writing TSTS in a blog post-esc fashion.
Since we're starting from square one, I think it's time to go back to the basics and recreate/redefine a foundation that the entirety of my new version of TSTS will be built upon:
First and foremost, I need to define TSTS's main focus, or in other words, the core of the story. This is immensely important and the entire story will be meticulously crafted around said focus.
(Note to myself: This time the focus will not be something that I end up changing multiple times as the story progresses.
I'm glaring at my past self very accusingly right now.)
For today's log, I'm going to write out my raw/unfiltered thoughts as I go about developing TSTS's Main Focus.
To start, let me define what I mean by "Main Focus":
For me, the main focus is an idea that serves as a foundation for a story. The main focus must be compelling, carry emotional weight, and be a reasonable idea to tell a story around.
(Additionally, the main plot, all of the subplots, side character's motivations, etc... must all point back to the main focus. This helps the story feel more cohesive.)
For instance: The main focus of Cuphead (the game) is the clash between Cuphead and the Devil. (If I was still in school, I'd say the main theme of this game is Good v.s. Evil.)
Now, when I talk about the focus being a clash between Cuphead and the Devil, I don't necessarily mean the conflict of Cuphead losing his soul. While that definitely is a part of the main idea, I'd define that as the story's main conflict- not the main idea.
The clash between the Devil and Cuphead is bigger than just the main conflict. Their differences span from the two characters' morals and their chosen friends to their in-game designs.
Every aspect of the game's story/atmosphere/etc feeds back into the clashing comparison of Cuphead and the Devil. While Cuphead's home is warm, cozy, and safe, the Devil's is dangerous, malicious, etc.
Cuphead's "right-hand man" is his brother: the lovable and cautious Mugman. Meanwhile, the Devil's right-hand man is the sleazy, scammy, and manipulative King Dice.
When these two characters clash, the result is an emotional reaction from the player which serves as a motivation to keep them playing. The player should want to save Cuphead, to preserve his good and happy world in the face of evil.
This reaction and subsequent emotional reaction is made possible because of the story's main focus and Studio MDHR's dedication to keeping said focus front and center.
I hope that my word vomit made sense, lol. Trying to write out my beliefs on storytelling is a LOT harder than I thought. XD
Now that I've hopefully defined my concept of a main focus, it's time for me to put this concept to the test by looking at it in the context of The Strength and The Sight. Luckily for me, when looking at the story the main focus became crystal clear to me:
TSTS's Main Focus is the Cup Trio: Cuphead, Mugman, and Ms. Chalice.
More specifically, their unbreakable & incredibly deep familial love and care for each other.
Without the novel being grounded in the trio's sibling dynamic/love, we lose the story. So much of the angst and feeling in TSTS comes from the pain of these siblings being ripped apart and their determined attempts to be reunited once more.
Let's write it out and I'll try and show you what I mean:
First, let's look at the plot TSTS in the context of the focal point from Chalice's POV:
Ms. Chalice, who's just found the family she never had in her new brothers, is suddenly pulled apart from Cuphead and Mugman. Once again, she's all alone and the Devil is to blame.
(Now that I think about it, Chalice's POV ends up being a secret parallel to a reveal at the end of the 2nd Act of the novel. I won't say what, but MAN is it depressing.)
Now let's do the same exercise from Cuphead and Mugman's POV: Cuphead and Mugman have been unexpectedly (and violently) torn away from their happy and peaceful life and their big sister. Now trapped in a hostile new world, they must learn to survive. While they do have each other, the boys feel very lost without their big sister and role model: Chalice.
With this in mind, let's look at the main conflict: Cuphead and Mugman's kidnapping. (Minor spoilers...? Idk, it literally happens in the first chapter. xD)
When the focus is on the torn-apart siblings and their desperate attempts to reunite, it makes the kidnapping somehow even more painful. Perfect for an angst writer like me. ;)
Now, when writing my outline, I can use this focus as a lens for each chapter. Does it point back to this main idea? If it doesn't maybe it's time to rethink or rewrite it.
TLDR: The focus/core of TSTS is the Cup Trio and more specifically- their sibling bond/love. This dynamic drives the story forward and sets up the major conflict as well as the climax. ;)
So, that was it for my first writer's log!
Hopefully, you all liked it and/or found it interesting to read. I have no idea if they will all be like this, making these types of posts is entirely new to me, but it's nice to finally be making some content for you guys again- even if it isn't a new TSTS chapter.
I'll try and post these writer's logs semi-frequently. I'll have to see how much I feel motivated/inspired to do concerning TSTS over these next few weeks.

I really trust your opinion on things, if you don't want to answer this I completely understand.
I'm struggling with classifying myself as butch. I used to be much more "the type" but now I like to be a bit femme too. I was a gym rat with short hair. Now I'm disabled and weak with medium hair. I can't decide if I want to cut my hair off again or not, sometimes I wear dresses and get done up. I learned I do like some makeup too. I'm also strictly a service sub.
Is there such a thing as a femmebutch? Am I not butch anymore or am I turning femme? Idk I'm still learning about lesbian culture and how I fit in
You reminded me of this piece from The Persistent Desire by Joan Nestle, and I decided to share it, because it isn't my intention to share it with the "Sharing the Knowledge" series, but it seems pertinent here.
I want to address a couple things. First off, I can't classify you as either, that's not up to me, these are very personal and subjective identities, I'll talk about myself and my opinions and I hope that'll help. I also want to reassure you that if you happen to be an unaligned lesbian, you're just as great and valid, a lot of people think that they have to fit into either one of these identities, and, for some, labels, but that's not true, you don't have to be butch or femme and you'll still be just as valid in sapphic spaces.
Now I understand your reticence, but I have addressed some of these stereotypes and, you know me, I'll address them again as needed.
There seems to be a lot of focus on looks and I wanted to get my message out again, that's not what these identities are about. Butches and femmes can do whatever they want with their hair, in fact I've been wanting to shave my head for a bit now, doesn't make me any less femme, without makeup I'm not any less femme, I'd think the same should apply to you. I understand specially how you feel about being disabled, butch and femme have both been defined with action and movement so much in our history, it can be hard sometimes to find your place in it, where do we fit if we're disabled, we're all still learning about how to best show up with those, I think disabled butches and femmes are slowly redefining our places in our community and that's important, furthermore your butch (or femme) identity shouldn't rely on being able bodied and speciality not on physical strength, that's not what it is about, from the bottom of this disabled femme's heart. I am and feel disabled and weak too and I give myself and my body the space and time it needs to recover and I do what I can in these actions and movements I see about.
That was an important part, that hit close to home. Continuing I have in the same before mentioned series, a piece that talks about how conscious gender building can be a lot of work but it's also very important, that we could all benefit from a bit more fluidity and less rigidity when it comes to gender expression specially. "There are as many ways of performing, embodying and discussing butch and femme as there are butches and femmes"

I believe these identities, with conscious gender building, take what's best for them from each masculinity and femininity and that's not one size fits all, I'll repeat into forever.
You gotta know what each of these gender pieces mean to you.
But I'll be clear regardless, you don't have to hate makeup and dresses to be a butch, you don't have to be dominant to be a butch, most butches I know are switches, a lot of butches I know are submissive and I love them so much.
I don't quite believe in turning femme or turning butch, mostly because I think you put words to what you are as you go, at least that's what I did and I'm only one femme. I was femme way before I had the words for it and had been longing for this identity, when I found the word it was like finding home.
I'll say it again to fit in lesbian culture you don't have to be femme or butch, if you are, that's great, if you're not, that's also great. Conscious gender building is important for all of us. Have a think, go through my butch/femme tag, do some research about what these identities mean (specially for you) and hopefully you'll be able to answer your questions.

Hustle Culture: The Dark Side of Productivity
Do you ever feel restless even when you're supposed to be resting? Do you ever lie on your back after a long day at work and still feel like you could have done more? Are you like me, never satisfied with how limited 24 hours is in a day? Do you also feel like you're always running out of time? If so, you might have fallen prey to hustle culture.
Forbes said in one of their articles that hustle culture "teaches us that there’s always more: more money to make, a bigger title or promotion, and a higher wall to climb," and it sounds enticing - inspiring, even. Especially in these fast-paced times where productivity and efficiency are praised and even redefining what success is. Communication these days happens with a touch of a button, a swipe of a finger, and even with an order to virtual assistant bots. Many tasks can now be automated, enabling us to produce more, almost to the point of exhaustion. It's not wrong to be productive, but we should also ask ourselves, "at what cost?"
With information so readily available, there seems to be no excuse to go beyond our humanness. We tend to forget fundamental things in life like rest, reflection, and connection. In my case, the implication of being caught up in hustle culture is the obsession with doing things quickly and sometimes all at the same time. 24 hours never seem to be enough. My sleep is always disrupted by my urge to do more, so even when I am resting, I am never truly resting. Although not easy, there are ways to unlearn this and prioritize balance. Here are some things I've been keeping in mind that I hope can help others as well.
Self-awareness: By consciously observing my feelings and behavior, I can recognize my motivations and unhealthy habits and understand why I behave in certain ways. From there, I try to choose how to respond to those feelings and behaviors intentionally. This also allows me to reframe my mindset and make my habits work for me.
Setting boundaries: The work-from-home setup helped me focus on the things I love to do, but it was also challenging to identify when to stop "working." So I set boundaries for myself by dividing my personal spaces and workspace. I also made sure to set different ringtones for my work alarm and personal alarm. I stopped entertaining work communications after clocking out. This helped prevent burnout and maintain work-life balance.
Prioritizing rest: One of the many things I learned from the book "Essentialism" is the importance of good quality sleep. It is often neglected by those caught in hustle culture because they feel like they could be spending their idle time doing more important and productive things, forgetting, underappreciating, and underestimating the power of good sleep and how it helps us work with exquisite quality. People caught up in hustle culture also often ignore their body's call for rest when they are fatigued or sick. Not only is it unhealthy, but it also impedes our potential to do better.
Being kind to myself: Like any other addiction, it's not easy to unlearn the obsession with productivity and efficiency, so I constantly remind myself that it's okay to surrender to the urge to do more sometimes. I shouldn't beat myself up more than I already do. Being kind to myself also allows me to pat myself on the back and tell myself that I don't have to be perfect and do everything all at once.
My change in behavior really started when I realized how badly I used to treat myself. I learned that I had a very low sense of self-worth because, growing up, I placed my value in my ability to make my family proud. My parents would often tell their friends how smart, artistic, and beautiful I was, and they would pressure me to join contest after contest, ace test after test, and earn honor after honor. So when I was idle, which I mean resting, I felt like I wasn't doing something meaningful. From there, I became addicted to getting things done. It was a different kind of high. Not being able to tick things off my to-do list made me feel guilty and anxious. That's when I knew it was a problem.
Fortunately, I was able to reframe my mind and acknowledge that I can deserve good things even if I didn't have to bleed for them. I realized that I should not punish myself for resting and that my productivity does not define me as a successful person. Lastly, I figured out that I can have ambitions without it costing me my physical and mental health.

As they’ve been redefining indie-rock ever since stepping foot on the scene in 2017, we can’t help but always be excited for what’s next for this quartet, and right now that comes in the form of an exciting new album set for release in May alongside an album release tour for the UK that’s already lined up and ready for you to partake in.
As always with Camens, ‘Confetti & Kalashnikovs’ is gripping from the get-go, delivering a bold, in-your-face sound that stands out unlike anything else you’ve ever heard before. With a slow, twinkly fade in quickly shut down by thudding beats and a heavy, gritty bass contrasted right against a vibrant, upbeat guitar riff, the four-piece deliver both intensity and ease all wrapped up into one short introduction. The vocals swiftly cut it off and change up the tune for the verses’ intermission, flowing with smoothly delivered lines, an emphatic tone and a light rasp that makes Camens’ music all that more recognisable. The other instruments settle to allow the words to take centre stage, simmering into slow drums and drawn-out, distant bass twangs, keeping a paired-back emphasis that’s still just as catchy as ever in the addictive beats and catchy lines you’ll learn within minutes of listening to.
As the chorus blares back into action, booming bass once again accompanies a bright electric guitar riff, all the while the drums return to their smashing dominance. Backing vocals add echoey emphasis to the most important lines like ‘in love and war, what are we fighting each other for?’, while their vocalist draws out his words in a way you can’t get enough of. A brief shredded guitar moment concludes this euphoric high, returning back to the verses more lulled pacing that may be slower and more simple, but is much needed for an anthem where singing along is all you really want to do.
Derived from lead singer Scott Powell falling on a juxtaposing phrase, ‘Confetti & Kalashnikovs’ was originally penned as just a bit of light-hearted fun messing around with different oxymorons for love and war. But with a little more time and thought, it quickly took on a lot more of a meaning than they’d ever expected, realising the weight and importance buried in their expressions. Diving into the ups and downs of relationships, this fiery indie-rock anthem is one that matches any good relationship in sound - filled with ease, mostly upbeat and even in the darker times it’s worth climbing back out. The lines are just as fitting, at first just listing traditional relationship and love based phrases like ‘forget me nots’, ‘confetti and kalashnikovs’ and ‘love letter ammunition’ that drives home their original playful feel. If you want to look a little deeper though, it can’t help but linger with a little more of an ache that they’re reaching into the potentially unrequited love of ‘forget me nots’, or twisting ‘love letter ammunition’ into something with more hatred than care. The chorus pulls it back together with one overarching question, asking ‘in love and war, what are we fighting each other for?’, pushing the often forgotten reality that a relationship is a partnership and not a battleground. Things continue into the second verse with just as many phrases you’ll find a lot of joy loudly singing for yourself, all before the meaning soaks back in, particularly as the bridge’s emotionally brimming lines find their way centre stage.

PRECIOUS AND LOVED

Many people go through life feeling worthless because they have been told or taught that they don't matter; that there's nothing so special about them.
Many who have been raised in a dysfunctional or broken home have grown up with the wrong perception of themselves. Often, they believe there's something terribly wrong with them.
What about millions of children and adults around the world who have gone or going through abuses of all kinds? These people, because of their experiences in life, often feel unloved, unimportant, not wanted and certainly, not special.
But there's another group still. Those who have experienced losses in their businesses and career and still struggling to make a come back. Also included in this group are those who are struggling to make ends meet with no much results to show for it.
Usually, people in this category often think, "there must be something wrong with me, otherwise this won't be happening to me.
Maybe you fall into any of these categories or groups. I want to show you something that will gladden your heart. Something that will redefine the way you see yourself.
In our opening text, we are told that “God loved the world so much... ” The 'world' in this verse refers to people. People like you and me.
The first thing we see here is that God loves the world so much. Irrespective of colour, gender, race, ethnicity, nationality, social, educational or financial status, God loves every human being.
God loves you. He loves me. He loves every human being in the world. He loves the most sinful as well as the most godly.
But what does it mean when the scripture says that God loves you?
It means that you are precious to God. It means that you are somebody important. It means that you are somebody priceless. It means that you are somebody special. This is God's estimation of you.
Secondly we are told that because of God's great love for us, “He gave His only Son so that anyone who believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life.”
God gave Jesus in exchange for us—for you and for me, and for every human being on earth.
Do you realize what that means?
It means that God loves the world as much as He loves Jesus that He willingly offered or gave up Jesus for us.
God loves you as much as He loves Jesus. You are worth the blood of God's Son. That's how precious you are.
You are precious and loved, my dear friend.
It doesn't matter who tells you that you are unimportant, God tells you that you are VERY IMPORTANT.
You are the TREASURE God found in a field, and with great joy, gave the best He had just to acquire you and make you His own.
And you know what? God has no regrets about you.
You are God's trophy🏆. You are God's delight. You are God's desire.
I encourage you to yield your heart to the love of God and enjoy everything that's available for you in His love.
Perhaps, you are reading this epistle right now and you are saying: I've longed to know God as my Father, to be saved, to have my sins forgiven and to experience a real and dynamic relationship with God, but I just don't know how to do that.
I'll gladly help you, my dear friend. Being born again is not something difficult. God is not asking you to move a mountain with your finger. All that is required of you is simply to believe in Jesus as God's Son who died for your sins and was raised to life to make salvation and justification available for you.

Today was a long day at work. My back is just...ruining my life at this point. I thought it got better after I stopped taking the new meds but no go. I cannot even explain how much agony I am in when I wake up in the morning. I cannot even sit up. I have to kinda roll over, swing my legs in hopes I can roll to the edge of the bed. I am worried I've actually slipped a disk or something. My GP has not called me back despite my calling them three times. Tomorrow I'm gonna get nasty on the phone and demand they send me a referral for an MRI because I think I need to explore getting some cortisone shots in my back or something. Or give me the referral I asked for PT. I cannot live like this.
My evening was improved by my brother sending over the cutest video from my six year old niece asking me which MLP was my favorite. So I sent her a reply back with my bright purple/pink hair clearly visible telling her I had not seen the new MLP and we'd have to watch it when she's here next month. Which....on one hand god help me, did I just sign up to watch MLP? But on the other, quality time with my niece so I'll take it.
Now, I find myself at an impasse. I could write, I'm in the middle of writing a very fun scene with lots of verbal sparring with Walon Vau. But I also kinda want to read but my reading history is in A B S O L U T E shambles.
I've been reading a lot of Grashir the past few days but I have a couple of D&D HAT fics written by some authors who I adore like Weatherlaw who have been posting WIP's I just haven't had a chance to read yet. On top of that I have like three or four COD fics I stopped midway through because of ADD. And now I'm teetering on the edge of falling down a FR rabbit hole. Cause there's new fics in the Notorious verse which I have not read.
I also kinda lowkey want to see one angsty Jarlaxle/Zak fic where they realize maybe two centuries of separation has changed Jarlaxle and he's not the person Zak used to know and maybe they're not suited to be lovers anymore and should they maybe start as friends. Meanwhile Artemis is totally not lowkey freaking out about this super important figure in Jarlaxle's past who has shown up out of nowhere and is potentially going to upset the delicate balance of their relationship.
BUT I HAVE NOT FOUND THIS FIC SO FAR AND I AM SAD.
Not because I want to see some divisive this pairing is superior to the other so much as people change and it gives you this bittersweet realization that when you see someone you haven't seen in a decade or two and you realize despite being best of friends or maybe something else in the past, you've both changed and you need to examine your relationship and come to terms with the ghosts of that previous relationship and whether you need to redefine it and give it a new meaning.
So any enterprising fic writer out there in the FR fandom, please take my bunny and give it a good home. I don't have the time or attention span for it. Or the brain power to read the most recent books. I still have the entire Generations trilogy sitting on my kindle which I haven't read so for all I know that's been addressed in some way, shape or form.
I thiiiiiiiiiiiiiiink I'm going to be good and write. I'm getting closer and closer to finishing Seeds.
I think I might actually do something super special when I finish this fucking fanfic because yanno what? I will have written essentially two full length novels or one god damned GRRM/Robert Jordan length novel by the time I finish this damned fanfic.
