Same anon — Biden’s a staunch supporter of Israel because of the Holocaust. His dad was somebody who knew a lot about the Holocaust. Biden took that knowledge to heart, to say the least.
(CW: Distressing, gas chamber mention, this might be oversharing, I think it explains a bit? Might be useful to know. I’ll put the specific section in brackets)
He took his kids and grandkids to Dachau in 2015, and determined that they had “rearranged [things] to make visitors less uncomfortable [and] softened the cruel edges over the years”, so he
[distressing bit begins]
[had the guides take the who family into one of the gas chambers, physically, and shut the door on them.]
[distressing bit ends]
He said, I think in October 2023, that he did it “to demonstrate not only the cruelty of the Holocaust but the apathy that allowed it to take place.”
So, I can’t fault Biden’s reasoning for siding with Israel. I think it comes from a place of concern and care. But I can definitely fault what he’s doing now.
And I didn’t do the brackets thing as a sarcasm thing, it just kinda fucked with me to read that, so I thought “better not take any chances” /gen
that's what his state of the union address last night seemed to confirm, yeah. he literally opened his speech by talking about WW2. I'm going to include some of the transcript because I like a particular little touch he added.
Good evening. Mr. Speaker. Madam Vice President. Members of Congress. My Fellow Americans.  In January 1941, President Franklin Roosevelt came to this chamber to speak to the nation. He said, “I address you at a moment unprecedented in the history of the Union.” Hitler was on the march. War was raging in Europe. President Roosevelt’s purpose was to wake up the Congress and alert the American people that this was no ordinary moment. Freedom and democracy were under assault in the world. Tonight I come to the same chamber to address the nation. Now it is we who face an unprecedented moment in the history of the Union. And yes, my purpose tonight is to both wake up this Congress, and alert the American people that this is no ordinary moment either. Not since President Lincoln and the Civil War have freedom and democracy been under assault here at home as they are today. What makes our moment rare is that freedom and democracy are under attack, both at home and overseas, at the very same time. Overseas, Putin of Russia is on the march, invading Ukraine and sowing chaos throughout Europe and beyond.
Biden was born in November of 1942, which would've been less than a year after FDR gave the state of the union address Biden alluded to. November 1942 was also only a handful of months after Auschwitz opened earlier that summer. the man absolutely sees his modern Hitler and he's pretty explicit that it's not Netanyahu.
also I'd like to take a moment to appreciate how wild it is that the actual sitting President of the United States used his state of the union address - a very formal occasion and important enough that it is mandated by the Constitution - to explicitly compare another head of state to Hitler. I know we, the average layperson, throw around the Hitler comparisons way, waaaaay more than we should, but for a sitting US president? for a sitting US president in his Constitution-mandated speech meant to inform Congress about the state of the country and its affairs for the upcoming year? do you understand what a major diplomatic slap in the face that was? like diplomacy is 85% ceremony/implications so even if the words themselves were tame, that shit is still a big fucking deal. there is a massive political and diplomatic difference between Biden making the comparison offhandedly or in a campaign speech and him making the comparison in the state of the union address.
and of course, what we cannot forget - Putin's biggest target of this genocidal war, this 'march'? Volodymyr Zelenskyy, a Jewish man whose great-grandparents were killed by Nazis and whose grandfather fought Nazis in said war. it's no wonder Biden is more focused on Ukraine right now.

WASHINGTON, May 27 (Reuters) - U.S. President Joe Biden and top congressional Republican Kevin McCarthy have reached a tentative deal to raise the federal government's $31.4 trillion debt ceiling, ending a months-long stalemate.
However, the deal was described in terms that indicated it may not be absolute, and without any celebration -- an indication of the bitter tenor of the negotiations, and the difficult path it has to pass through Congress before the United States runs out of money to pay its debts in early June.
"I just got off the phone with the president a bit ago. After he wasted time and refused to negotiate for months, we've come to an agreement in principle that is worthy of the American people," McCarthy tweeted.
The deal would raise the debt limit for two years while capping spending over that time, and includes some extra work requirements for programs for the poor.
Biden and McCarthy held a 90-minute phone call earlier on Saturday evening to discuss the deal.
"We still have more work to do tonight to finish the writing of it," McCarthy told reporters on Capitol Hill. McCarthy said he expects to finish writing the bill Sunday, then speak to Biden and have a vote on the deal on Wednesday.
The deal will avert an economically destabilizing default, so long as they succeed in passing it through the narrowly divided Congress before the Treasury Department runs short of money to cover all its obligations, which it warned Friday will occur if the debt ceiling is not raised by June 5.
Republicans who control the House of Representatives have pushed for steep cuts to spending and other conditions, including new work requirements on some benefit programs for low-income Americans and for funds to be stripped from the Internal Revenue Service, the U.S. tax agency.
They said they want to slow the growth of the U.S. debt, which is now roughly equal to the annual output of the country's economy.
Negotiators have agreed to cap non-defense discretionary spending at 2023 levels for one year and increase it by 1% in 2025, sources said.
The two sides have to carefully thread the needle in finding a compromise that can clear the House, with a 222-213 Republican majority, and Senate, with a 51-49 Democratic majority.
One high-ranking member of the hardline House Freedom Caucus said they were in the process of gauging member sentiment, and unsure what the vote numbers might be.
The long standoff spooked financial markets, weighing on stocks and forcing the United States to pay record-high interest rates in some bond sales. A default would take a far heavier toll, economists say, likely pushing the nation into recession, shaking the world economy and leading to a spike in unemployment.
Biden for months refused to negotiate with McCarthy over future spending cuts, demanding that lawmakers first pass a "clean" debt-ceiling increase free of other conditions, and present a 2024 budget proposal to counter his issued in March. Two-way negotiations between Biden and McCarthy began in earnest on May 16.
Democrats accused Republicans of playing a dangerous game of brinkmanship with the economy. Republicans say recent increased government spending is fueling the growth of the U.S. debt, which is now roughly equal to the annual output of the economy.
The last time the nation got this close to default was in 2011, when Washington also had a Democratic president and Senate and a Republican-led House.
Congress eventually averted default, but the economy endured heavy shocks, including the first-ever downgrade of the United States' top-tier credit rating and a major stock sell-off.
The work to raise the debt ceiling is far from done. McCarthy has vowed to give House members 72 hours to read the legislation before bringing it to the floor for a vote. That will test whether enough moderate members support the compromises in the bill to overcome opposition from both hard-right Republicans and progressive Democrats.
Then it will need to pass the Senate, where it will need at least nine Republican votes to succeed. There are multiple opportunities in each chamber along the way to slow down the process.
The two sides had struggled to find common ground on spending levels. Republicans had pushed for an 8% cut to discretionary spending in the next fiscal year, followed by annual increases of 1% for several years.
Biden had proposed keeping spending flat in the 2024 fiscal year, which starts Oct. 1, and raising it 1% the year after that. He also had called for closing some tax loopholes, which Republicans rejected.

This is very much an anti-"Vote blue no matter who!" moment. Call your representatives. Tell them you will *not* be voting for them if they don't vote on this bill. Say you won't vote for Biden. NOT VOTING is also a tool in the box of electoralism - if the democrats face no pressure from the left to not do evil genocide then, then they will keep doing evil genocide shit.
Call and absolutely say all of that, and make clear demands for what they should be doing. I’ve been calling almost every single evening.
Recognize there ARE people like Tlaib, Omar, Ocasiao-Cortez, Bush, Bowman, Ramirez, Lee, Green, Carson, Jayapal, etc. running for these offices, House and Senate alike. Find the ones near you and support them if you’re dead set against voting for these current faces. Fight like hell to have them win.
Campaign for Dean Phillips if you’re dead set against Biden—I fully plan to vote for him in the primary myself if the field stays as-is. He’s currently saying he supports Israel’s right to self defense, but also saying he believes Palestinians should have self-determination and specifically wanting to help create a Palestinian state is a hell of a lot easier to push toward their desired unified, single, apartheid-free state than whatever secretive, genocide-abetting garbage we’re dealing with right now.
Put your time and money where your mouth is. I’m still recovering from my third spinal surgery and have physical therapy looming again once I’m no longer on narcotics and able to drive myself to bi-weekly appointments, but I already make donations to my candidate of choice for my representative on top of my 2 state-level people, and I actually reached out and we’ve spoken directly before.
I will personally always vote against the hungriest fascist I’m faced with. That’s the whole point of “lesser of two evils” in the first place. Yeah, sometimes they both suck ass, but there are still levels of awful.
You think a Republican would have any qualms about aiding Israel? We’d already be actively attacking the Palestinian people—sorry, would have “declared war on Hamas”—and would have sent way more supplies and soldiers than we already have on top of whipping the Evangelical christofascist base into a frenzy the likes of which we haven’t seen since the Republicans took the chance to do exactly that with impunity in 2001. But this time we’d be faced with someone ready and willing to engage in a violent coup here pulling those strings.
Only 4 Republicans were willing to not censure Tlaib just for being honest—the measure ostensibly citing antisemitism over use of “from the river to the sea” because some of the most powerful major Jewish organizations in the US are Zionist and have had the public and government’s ear on the situation for decades. Meanwhile, 191 Democrats voted against the measure. There’s an awfully big chasm between those two numbers. And it’s happened repeatedly, without widespread pushback, anytime criticism of Israel has come from a (progressive, Democrat) member of the house.
The vote for cutting IRS funding to give to Israel? 12 Democrats voted for it. 2 Republicans against it.
11 Republican members sponsored a bill to expel all Palestinians in the US. Landsman (OH) is a pro-Israel Democrat, was even one of the 22 who voted to censure Tlaib, yet he’s drafting his own bill against Zinke, the leader on the expulsion bill.
Breaking tonight, the Republicans have now proposed a bill to revoke scholarship money from college students speaking in defense or favor for Palestine.
That pressure from the left? That pressure is voting for progressive voices, donating and campaigning for them. That pressure is voicing your own opinions to those representing you, regularly.
Not voting at all? Considering that your way to send a message? All you’ve done is take your hand off the wheel and let all the pressure from the right take over the whole car.

HEATHER COX RICHARDSON
November 2, 2022 (Wednesday)
“Anecdotal data point,” conservative commentator Tom Nichols tweeted this afternoon, “Had lunch with an old friend, a fellow former [Republican] (but not in politics or media or anything) and he said that things feel different after the Pelosi attack. Not sure why. I feel the same thing; not sure that it'll matter, but have that same sense.”
Perhaps it is the echoes of lawyer Joseph Nye Welch, who in 1954 on television confronted Joseph McCarthy as the Wisconsin senator shredded people’s lives by accusing them of being communists: "Until this moment, Senator, I think I never really gauged your cruelty or your recklessness…. Have you no sense of decency, sir, at long last? Have you left no sense of decency?"
Perhaps it is the many observers pointing out that in a time when more than half the Republicans running for office have refused to acknowledge that Democratic President Joe Biden won the 2020 election, and when Republican legislatures are claiming the right to choose presidential electors without the input of voters, “American democracy is on the line.”
Or perhaps it is the sheer horror of Republican politicians joking about a brutal attack on the Speaker of the House, the second in line for the presidency, an attack that left her elderly husband with a fractured skull, but Nichols is right: something feels different.
Tonight, President Joe Biden gave a speech on democracy. He began by describing the attack on Paul Pelosi, then noting that the attacker’s demand, “Where’s Nancy?”, echoed the words “used by the mob when they stormed the United States Capitol on January the 6th, when they broke windows, kicked in the doors, brutally attacked law enforcement, roamed the corridors hunting for officials and erected gallows to hang the former vice president, Mike Pence.”
That enraged mob had been whipped into a frenzy by former president Trump’s repeating the Big Lie that the 2020 election had been stolen. That lie, Biden said, has “fueled the dangerous rise in political violence and voter intimidation over the past two years.”
Biden urged us to “confront those lies with the truth,” for “the very future of our nation depends on it.” “We must with one overwhelming unified voice speak as a country and say there’s no place, no place for voter intimidation or political violence in America. Whether it’s directed at Democrats or Republicans. No place, period. No place ever.”
“Democracy itself” is at stake in the upcoming election, Biden said. He appealed “to all Americans, regardless of party, to meet this moment of national and generational importance.” Nothing is guaranteed about democracy in America, he said, “Every generation has had to defend it, protect it, preserve it, choose it. For that’s what democracy is. It’s a choice, a decision of the people, by the people, and for the people.”
“We the people must decide whether we will have fair and free elections and every vote counts. We the people must decide whether we’re going to sustain a republic, where reality’s accepted, the law is obeyed, and your vote is truly sacred. We the people must decide whether the rule of law will prevail or whether we will allow the dark forces and thirst for power put ahead of the principles that have long guided us.”
Biden warned that the same forces that challenged the 2020 election, despite all the confirmations of its results, are setting out to question the legitimacy of the 2022 election. MAGA Republicans are “trying to succeed where they failed in 2020, to suppress the right of voters and subvert the electoral system itself. That means denying your right to vote and deciding whether your vote even counts.” They’ve encouraged violence and intimidation of voters and election workers, Biden said. “It’s damaging, it’s corrosive, and it’s destructive.”
“And I want to be very clear,” Biden said, “this is not about me, it’s about all of us. It’s about what makes America America. It’s about the durability of our democracy. For democracies are more than a form of government. They’re a way of being, a way of seeing the world, a way that defines who we are, what we believe, why we do what we do.”
Biden warned that “we can’t take democracy for granted any longer.”
“Democracy means the rule of the people, not the rule of monarchs or the moneyed, but the rule of the people. Autocracy is the opposite of democracy. It means the rule of one, one person, one interest, one ideology, one party…. [T]he lives of billions of people, from antiquity till now, have been shaped by the battle between these competing forces, between the aspirations of the many and the greed and power of the few, between the people’s right for self-determination and the self-seeking autocrat, between the dreams of a democracy and the appetites of an autocracy.”
“What we’re doing now is going to determine whether democracy will long endure and…whether the American system that prizes the individual bends toward justice and depends on the rule of law, whether that system will prevail. This is the struggle we’re now in, a struggle for democracy, a struggle for decency and dignity, a struggle for prosperity and progress, a struggle for the very soul of America itself.”
Biden listed the “fundamental values and beliefs that unite us as Americans.” First, “we believe the vote in America’s sacred, to be honored, not denied; respected, not dismissed; counted, not ignored. A vote is not a partisan tool, to be counted when it helps your candidates and tossed aside when it doesn’t.” “Second,” he said, “we…stand against political violence and voter intimidation.” “We don’t settle our differences…with a riot, a mob, or a bullet, or a hammer. We settle them peacefully at the ballot box.” Third, he said, “we believe in democracy…. History and common sense tell us that liberty, opportunity, and justice thrive in a democracy, not in an autocracy.”
“At our best,” the president said, “America is not a zero-sum society where for you to succeed, someone else has to fail. A promise in America is big enough…for everyone to succeed…. Individual dignity, individual worth, individual determination, that’s America, that’s democracy and that’s what we have to defend.”
He urged voters to judge the candidates by whether they would accept the legitimate will of the American people. “Will that person accept the outcome of the election, win or lose?” The answer to that question should be decisive. “Too many people have sacrificed too much for too many years for us to walk away from the American project and democracy…. It’s within our power, each and every one of us, to preserve our democracy.”
“You have the power, it’s your choice, it’s your decision, the fate of the nation, the fate of the soul of America lies where it always does, with the people, in your hands, in your heart, in your ballot.”

Blacks for Trump demonstration at the Miami Federal Courthouse yesterday
* * * *
LETTERS FROM AN AMERICAN
“DONALD TRUMP UNDER ARREST, IN FEDERAL CUSTODY.”
It was quite a chyron from CNN, marking the first time in the history of the United States that a former president has been charged with federal crimes. And in this case, what crimes they are: the willful retention, sharing, and hiding of classified documents that compromise our national security. Trump’s own national security advisor John Bolton said, “This is material that in the hands of America’s adversaries would do incalculable damage to the United States. This is a very serious case and it’s not financial fraud, it’s not hush money to porn stars, this is the national security of the United States at stake. I think we’ve got to take the politics out of this business when national security is at stake.”
Cameras were barred in the courtroom as Trump pleaded not guilty to the 37 charges in Miami today. Presiding magistrate judge Jonathan Goodman ordered Trump not to communicate with witnesses about the case, including co-defendant Waltine Nauta, then released him on his own recognizance, that is, without needing to post bail. Special prosecutor Jack Smith was in the courtroom; ABC’s senior congressional correspondent Rachel Scott reported that Trump did not look at Smith.
Then Trump went back to his residence in Bedminster, New Jersey, where he gave a speech that New York Times reporter Maggie Haberman, who is close to the Trump camp, described as low energy, focusing on his insistence that he had a right to keep the classified documents (which experts agree is nonsense and amounts to a confession) and that the indictment was “the most evil and heinous abuse of power.” Right-wing Newsmax and the Fox News Channel (FNC) carried the speech; CNN and MSNBC did not.
FNC has been hemorrhaging viewers since it fired Tucker Carlson, a threat to its bottom line that might have been behind its chyron tonight attacking Biden by claiming “WANNABE DICTATOR SPEAKS AT THE WHITE HOUSE AFTER HAVING HIS POLITICAL RIVAL ARRESTED.”
In statements similar to the one from FNC, right-wing pundits spent the day flooding Twitter and other social media with furious insistence that Trump is being unfairly prosecuted, followed by attacks on former secretary of state Hillary Clinton, and with allegations that there are tapes of President Biden accepting bribes—allegations that Biden openly laughed at this evening.
But that performative outrage among leaders did not translate into support on the ground in Miami. Law enforcement had been prepared for as many as 50,000 protesters, but only a few hundred to a thousand turned out (one wearing a shirt made of an American flag and carrying the head of a pig on a pole).
The lack of supporters on the ground was significant. Since the August 2017 Unite the Right rally in Charlottesville, Virginia, much of Trump’s power has rested on his ability to call out his base to silence opponents by threatening violence. That power was in full force on January 6, 2021, when his loyalists set out to stop the counting of the electoral votes that would make Democrat Joe Biden president, believing they were operating under the orders of then-president Trump.
Since then, though, more than 1,000 people who participated in the events of January 6 have been charged with crimes, and many have been sentenced to prison, while Trump, who many defendants say called them to arms, has skated. That discrepancy is likely dampening the enthusiasm of Trump’s supporters for protest.
Today Josh Marshall of Talking Points Memo pointed out that the audacity of Nevada’s militia-related Bundy family simply grew as family members launched successive stands against the federal government without significant legal repercussions. Republican politicians cheered on their attacks on federal officials for political gain, while Democratic politicians didn’t push to go after them out of concern that a show of federal power would alienate Nevada voters.
Trump’s threats and determination to stir up his base seem to reflect a similar consideration: if he can just rally enough support, he might imagine, the federal government will back off.
Federal officials permitting politics to trump the rule of law in our past have brought us to this moment.

WATCH LIVE: Biden delivers remarks on the state of democracy after attack on Paul Pelosi
November 02, 2022 01:10 PM EDT
WASHINGTON (AP) — President Joe Biden will deliver remarks Wednesday evening on threats to democracy, as he seeks to raise the stakes for voters less than a week before the midterm elections.
The event is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. ET. Watch in the player above.
Biden, who has repeatedly said that “democracy is on the ballot” on Nov. 8, will speak at 7 p.m. from Washington’s Union Station, blocks from the U.S. Capitol, the White House said.
“It’s from Capitol Hill, because that is where there was an attempt to subvert our democracy,” White House senior adviser Anita Dunn told Axios, referencing the Jan. 6, 2021, insurrection.
Previewing Biden’s remarks, Dunn said the Democratic president “will be very clear tonight that he is speaking to people who don’t agree with him on any issues, who don’t agree on his agenda, but who really can unite behind this idea of this fundamental value of democracy.”
WATCH: Lies and conspiracy theories about attack on Pelosi’s husband spread online
The speech comes days after a man seeking to kidnap House Speaker Nancy Pelosi severely injured her husband, Paul Pelosi, in their San Francisco home and as threats of political violence have rattled members of Congress and election workers.
“The threat of political violence which most Americans find abhorrent, the idea that you would use violence to further your political means, it’s something that unites almost all Americans and that we can all be united against, and obviously, we’ve seen horrible things happen quite recently,” Dunn told Axios.
Biden last delivered a prime-time speech on what he called the “continued battle for the soul of the nation” on Sept. 1 outside Independence Hall in Philadelphia, in which he condemned the “MAGA forces” of former President Donald Trump and his adherents as a threat to America’s system of government.
“They promote authoritarian leaders, and they fan the flames of political violence that are a threat to our personal rights, to the pursuit of justice, to the rule of law, to the very soul of this country,” he said.
The Wednesday remarks come as hundreds of candidates who have falsely denied the legitimacy of the 2020 presidential election are on ballots across the country, with many poised to be elected to critical roles overseeing elections.
In contrast with the September remarks, which drew criticism from some corners for being paid for by taxpayers, Biden’s Wednesday speech will be hosted by the Democratic National Committee.
“The president will address the threat of election deniers and those who seek to undermine faith in voting and democracy; and the stakes for our democracy in next week’s election,” the DNC said.
Biden’s remarks come as many Americans remain pessimistic about the state of U.S. democracy. An October poll by The Associated Press-NORC Center for Public Affairs Research found that just 9% of U.S. adults think democracy is working “extremely” or “very well,” while 52% say it’s not working well.
AP writer Seung Min Kim contributed.

HOT TAKES: Republicans React to Sen. Katie Britt's Bold, GOP Rebuttal to Biden SOTU
Tumblr media
Well, we got through that State of the Union speech somehow, readers. Hopefully, you were able to get some enjoyment out of the ordeal, by hanging out with our contributors and giving your two cents, too, while President Joe Biden spoke on Thursday evening.
READ: .
RedState Live Blogs the State of the Union
Joe Biden's State of the Union Was the Most Unhinged and Angry in History
Ted Cruz Absolutely Levels Joe Biden's Toxic State of the Union Speech – 'Never Seen Anything Like It'
But in what could be considered a reward for slogging through Biden's 107-minute tirade, next up was Senator Katie Britt (R-AL) to give the official, Republican rebuttal to Biden.
READ MORE: SOTU: Alabama Senator Katie Britt Brings the Youth and the Fire in Her Rebuttal
As the senator spoke, Republicans and conservatives swiftly shared their thoughts on how she was doing on X. Conservative commentator Nick Adams didn't hold back:
Katie Britt is NAILING IT tonight! pic.twitter.com/NljUdmipgU— Nick Adams (Alpha Male) (@NickAdamsinUSA) March 8, 2024
To many, it was crystal clear who Republicans were hoping to appeal to by choosing Britt:
Great choice to appeal to suburban women.— Caitlyn Jenner (@Caitlyn_Jenner) March 8, 2024
Clay Travis from the "Clay and Buck" radio program agreed, devoting several posts to the topic:
Her speech isn’t for dudes. They’re all already voting for Trump. It’s for suburban women, the kinds of people who buy into the idea that Republicans are all old rich white dudes, and might be persuadable because they don’t like Biden, Kamala or Trump.— Clay Travis (@ClayTravis) March 8, 2024
He also called Britt "a  star," adding that "the contrast between her and Biden is staggering":
No idea how many are watching her from her Alabama kitchen right now, but the contrast between her and Biden is staggering. She’s half his age, ten times the communicator. She’s killing it.
One X user, pointing to the future, called this "growing the congregation":
— CJ Pearson (@thecjpearson) March 8, 2024
The last line reads: "That’s how we win in 2024."
This X user gave Britt some home state props, and like others, pointed to the stark contrast in tone with Biden:
— Տᗩᑎᗪᖇᗩ (@TheSandraHQ) March 8, 2024
There were also some mixed reviews from conservatives:
Katie Britt is exactly the right pick for the response, but this is hard to watch. She’s acting instead of just speaking.— Allie Beth Stuckey (@conservmillen) March 8, 2024
"The View" co-host Alyssa Farah Griffin gave Sen. Britt praise for "her focus on the border, on the economy," but admitted the kitchen setting threw her:

Jesse Kelly, on the other hand, wasn't impressed with Britt's demeanor:
— Jesse Kelly (@JesseKellyDC) March 8, 2024
TPUSA's Charlie Kirk also had trouble with the presentation:
I'm sure Katie Britt is a sweet mom and person, but this speech is not what we need. Joe Biden just declared war on the American right and Katie Britt is talking like she's hosting a cooking show whispering about how Democrats "dont get it."— Charlie Kirk (@charliekirk11) March 8, 2024
But there was one more Republican who shared his thoughts on Sen. Britt's performance, and thought she did a "great job":
— Donald J. Trump Posts From His Truth Social (@TrumpDailyPosts) March 8, 2024
If you aren't able to read former President Donald Trump's post from Truth Social, it says:
Katie Britt was a GREAT contrast to an Angry, and obviously very Disturbed, “President.” She was compassionate and caring, especially concerning Women and Women’s Issues. Her conversation on Migrant Crime was powerful and insightful. Great job Katie! Donald Trump Truth Social 11:30 PM EST 3/07/24

PCW Investigative Reporter -Woodward Bernstein
Opening: The camera swooped across the SNHU Arena like an eagle surveying its territory, capturing the frenzied sea of signs and faces caught in the fever of anticipation. The bright lights illuminated the silhouettes of fans jumping and cheering, their voices blending into a powerful roar that filled the arena. The stage was set for an epic showdown between political heavyweights.
“WELCOME TO P… C… W!” As Johnny Suave’s smooth voice boomed over the speakers, the crowd erupted into cheers, their unified chant of “PCW… PCW… PCW!” echoing through the air. The energy was palpable, pulsating through every inch of the arena.
Suave stood proudly in the center of the ring, his sharp suit and slicked-back hair gleaming under the spotlight. He was a ring general, commanding attention with his presence alone. But he wasn’t alone. Beside him stood Colleen Crowder, a journalist from That Big New York Newspaper that prided itself on pushing ‘Narrative driven News.’ Her trendy frames and sharp eyes conveyed her no-nonsense attitude as she adjusted her microphone, her ‘Our Narrative is News’ badge glimmering defiantly on her blazer.
“Good evening, ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls, and political aficionados across the globe!” Suave exclaimed, his voice booming with excitement. “Welcome to another explosive edition of PCW’s Extreme Political TV, right here in the heart of downtown Manchester, New Hampshire!”
Despite her professional demeanor, it was clear that Crowder had little interest in the spectacle before her. But even she couldn’t deny the electrifying atmosphere of this event. It was going to be a night to remember.
“Last week,” Suave continued, his voice cutting through the chants like a knife, “we witnessed the might of Donald Trump as he bulldozed his way through Iowa, leaving Ron DeSantis, Nikki Haley, and Vivek Ramaswamy in the dust. Tonight, folks, he’s back for more and to make two for two.”
“Let’s not get carried away, Johnny,” Colleen chimed in, her words laced with skepticism. “As much as Trump loves the sound of his own entrance music, it’s Nikki Haley who has the real work cut out for her. She needs to stop Trump’s momentum before it’s too late.” Her fingers tapped impatiently on the announcer’s table, betraying her anxiety for the political theater to unfold.
Suave leaned into the microphone, his eyes glinting with the prospect of another headline-making night. “It’s clear the misuse of the judicial system has not slowed Donald Trump down. If Trump scores another big win tonight, it may just be a prelude to the inevitable. He may be unstoppable, Colleen.”
“Well, speaking of unstoppable,” Colleen retorted, crossing her arms, “let’s not forget about the main event tonight. PCW CEO Joe Biden stepping into the ring for the first time in 2024 in what will be a mere formality.”
“Trump and Biden, archrivals bound by destiny,” Suave mused aloud, letting the drama hang in the air. “Could we be witnessing the ultimate rematch in November? Stay tuned, because tonight, political grudges are settled not with votes, but with body slams and steel-folding chairs! Let’s go right to Kimber Marshall in the ring.”
MATCH #1-AMERICAN PATRIOT’S FOUR-WAY MATCH: Vivek Ramaswamy vs. Ron DeSantis vs. Nikki Haley vs. former PCW CEO Donald Trump The arena pulsated with anticipation, the crowd’s fevered chants vibrating against the steel and concrete of the SNHU Arena. Kimber Marshall, her voice a clarion call above the din, stepped into the spotlight at the center of the ring, ready to introduce the gladiators of the evening.
Tumblr media
Ramaswamy strode out, a man with a purposeful gait, his eyes locked on the squared circle as if envisioning policy proposals he could execute within its ropes. The crowd offered a mixture of cheers and thoughtful nods, appreciating the fight he brought to the political arena.
Tumblr media
DeSantis emerged, a smug half-smile playing across his lips, waving dismissively at the crowd as if to say he was beyond their need for approval. His confidence bordered on arrogance—a trait that stirred the audience into a frenzy of reaction.
Tumblr media
Haley stepped forward with a determined march, her expression steely, ready to prove her mettle against her competitors. She received an uproarious welcome; many saw in her the potential to shift the balance of power in this high-stakes match.
“Lastly,” Marshall’s introduction reached a crescendo, “the former CEO of PCW, the man of the hour… he promises to…”
“MAKE PCW GREAT AGAIN!” the shout came from the red section of the arena.
“…DONALD… TRUMP!”
But the expected figure did not appear. No swaggering silhouette filled the entranceway. No triumphant smirk graced the jumbotron.
“Looks like the former CEO is keeping us waiting… again,” Suave quipped, his tone laced with mock surprise.
“Or perhaps,” Crowder interjected, her voice dripping with disdain, “he’s lost in his own delusions of grandeur. Either way, it’s disrespectful to the other contestants and to the integrity of this match.”
As the match was about to begin, Ramaswamy and DeSantis unexpectedly grabbed the microphone from Kimber Marshall.
“Ladies and gentlemen,” Vivek Ramaswamy’s voice boomed through the arena. “I’d like to make an official announcement.  I am officially declaring my support for Donald Trump!”
The crowd erupted into a mix of gasps and cheers. But Colleen, sitting front row with a determined scowl on her face, could not contain herself any longer. “NOOOO!” she shouted in dismay.
“I’m also throwing my support behind Donald Trump,” DeSantis added with a sly grin.
“HOLY CRAP!” Suave exclaimed from the announcer’s booth. “Ramaswamy and DeSantis have joined forces in support of Donald Trump and are aligning themselves against Nikki Haley! This changes everything!”
Colleen Crowder’s jaw dropped in astonishment as she witnessed Trump’s former rivals drop their campaigns and join with him with a sudden, calculated move. The room crackled with tension as the lines were drawn.
“Dammit!” She exclaimed, her voice seething with indignation at this unexpected turn of events. “COME ON NIKKI!”
DING-DING
“And there’s the bell!” Suave said.
youtube
Just then, the familiar yet ominous tones of the Imperial March started playing, sending shivers down everyone’s spines.
“Son of a bitch,” muttered Colleen as chants of “TRUMP! TRUMP! TRUMP!” filled the arena and synced to the beat of the music.
“TRUMP. TRUMP. TRUMP. TRUMP-TRUMP-TRUMMMMP, TRUMP-TRUMP-TRUMMMMP!”
Tumblr media
“TRUMP. TRUMP. TRUMP. TRUMP-TRUMP-TRUMMMMP, TRUMP-TRUMP-TRUMMMMP!”
“More like the opportunist.” Crowder’s lip curled in contempt as she watched Trump saunter in. “After leaving his allies Ramaswamy and DeSantis to do his dirty work, he swoops in, hoping for an easy victory and take all the glory for himself.”
Trump’s presence was larger than life, commanding the attention of everyone in the room. He absorbed the crowd’s energy like a conductor directing a symphony of support.
Ramaswamy and DeSantis both rolled out of the ring and regrouped.
“Let’s see if his political maneuvering inside the ring is as sharp as it is outside,” Suave said, watching Trump circle Haley like a predator sizing up his prey.
Crowder couldn’t help but grudgingly admire Trump’s showmanship, even as she despised it. “He may be a master of the spectacle, Johnny, but Nikki Haley isn’t one to back down from a fight. She’ll give him the challenge he’s looking for, and then some.”
youtube
“AND DONALD TRUMP HAS WON IN NEW HAMPSHIRE!” Suave announced triumphantly, his words drowned out by the deafening roar of the crowd. “Nikki Haley put up a good fight against all odds,” Suave continued, his voice rising above the chant. “But once again, it’s Donald Trump who emerges victorious.”
Crowder’s face twisted into a mask of disappointment, her lips pressed tightly together in frustration.
“Nikki Haley is our last hope to stop Donald Trump!” she exclaimed, her words echoing the despondency of those who shared her sentiment. “But it’s not over yet. She’s still fighting! She’s still alive, Johnny!”
“Indeed,” Suave nodded, then turned his attention to the camera. “Stay tuned, folks. This isn’t over yet.”
A Friendly Discussion About Who Will Be the Next PCW Champion The arena was electric, a charged hum of anticipation thrumming through the air as Donald Trump’s victory set the stage for what was to come. Like a herald of chaos, Professor McCarthy, with his white hair like a halo of wisdom gone awry and round spectacles reflecting the spotlight, rolled into the ring. His flock followed, a motley crew of political caricatures: Codee Pink draped in her namesake color, Emily S. List brandishing a clipboard like a shield, The Green World Order marching in eco-friendly lockstep, and The Young Jerks swaggering with brash confidence.
“Listen up!” McCarthy bellowed, hoisting his ‘good book’ high above his head, its pages rife with dogmatic doctrine. “There are only two people in this entire organization who have the moral compass to hold the PCW championship—the Ultimate Social Justice Warrior and Mr. Hollywood Kevin Daniels!” His voice echoed off the turnbuckles, reaching every corner of the crowd. “Believe what we tell you to believe, say what we want you to say, do what we tell you to do, and conform to everything in this good book… or else we will all shout you down!”
At the broadcast table, Johnny Suave adjusted his headset, his face a mask of incredulity. “Folks, you’re witnessing Left Wing Fundamentalism at its most extreme,” he declared, shaking his head.
Colleen Crowder, tapping her pen against her notepad, shot back, “It’s not about religion, Johnny—it’s about setting a standard!”
The bickering commentators were suddenly drowned out by the arrival of Corporate World. P.M.C. Banks, Kirk Walstreit, and their manager, the slick Gordon Guyko, emerged from backstage, their expensive suits gleaming under the lights. The trio stood at the top of the ramp, an embodiment of power and affluence.
“Raise the image of PCW?” Walstreit smirked into the microphone. “It’s time for a Corporate PCW champion, someone who truly represents success.”
Banks nodded, his smile as shiny as a new dime. “You can take that to the bank—or better yet, to Banks.”
Gordon Guyko couldn’t resist the final word, leaning into the mic with a grin that could sell ice to polar bears. “Greed is good… it’s really, really good!”
Suave leaned closer to his mic, his eyebrows arched. “And there you have it, folks—greed versus creed in the squared circle!”
“Money may talk, but does it wrestle?” Colleen quipped, her gaze following the corporate sharks as they retreated, confident in their claim to the championship.
As the crowd roared, the battle lines were drawn on the canvas of the ring—a war of ideologies, where only the mightiest mantra would emerge victorious.
The familiar strains of “Do You Hear the People Sing” reverberated throughout the arena, igniting a fire in the hearts of the spectators. From the Deplorables’ section at ringside, ‘Red Solo Cup’ Ray McAvay, Texan Charlie Blackwell, and the stalwart ‘Prairie Populist’ William Daniels Bryan stood up, their faces etched with determination. The crowd erupted as they made their way to the ring, each step a defiant march against the establishment.
“Looks like The Heartland Coalition is about to make a stand,” Johnny Suave’s voice boomed over the PA system, his excitement palpable.
“Let’s not jump to conclusions, Johnny. This could be just another grandstanding moment,” Colleen Crowder countered, skepticism coloring her tone.
Once in the ring, Bryan snatched the microphone with the assurance of a man who knew exactly what he was fighting for. “I was the PCW champion the last time, and no Corporate drone or left-wing fundamentalist is going to take what belongs to the people… the PCW Title!” His voice echoed, resonating with the fervor of the heartland.
“By the people, for the people,” Suave chimed in, nodding approvingly.
“Or so he claims,” quipped Colleen, rolling her eyes.
Professor McCarthy, red-faced and flustered, waddled forward, shaking his ‘good book’ at Bryan. “The Deplorables do NOT speak for the people! It is we, the enlightened… the elite… we speak for the people who are too stupid to think for themselves… we are the ones who must guide them!” he bellowed, his Flock nodding in zealous agreement.
“Ah, the battle cry of the allegedly woke,” Suave mocked.
“Johnny, you’re missing the point. They’re advocating for progressive voices,” Colleen retorted, but her comment was drowned out by the escalating argument in the ring.
Gordon Guyko, ever the opportunist, seized his moment, stepping into the fray with a sinister smile. “Money talks… money is power…” He paused for dramatic effect, letting his gaze sweep over the agitated crowd. “…and greed is good… really, really good.”
“Unbelievable,” Suave muttered.
“Disgustingly predictable,” Colleen added, her disdain clear.
The tumult reached a fever pitch until the commanding presence of PCW owner Dawn McGill brought a sudden hush over the crowd. Towering in the ring, she cut an imposing figure in a sleek, black business suit, tailored to accentuate her statuesque frame. Her medium-length blonde hair fell in waves, framing her steely blue eyes that exuded authority.
“Enough!” she commanded, her voice cutting through the chaos. “I’ve heard enough talk tonight, and here’s what’s going to happen.” She held the mic firmly, asserting control. “In two weeks, there will be a three-way match to determine the new PCW Champion. The American Patriots, the Progressive Alliance, and the American Heartland Coalition will all choose their wrestler to participate in the match.”
“Wait a minute!” Colleen interjected, her face contorting with annoyance. “Why include the American Heartland Coalition?”
“Because, Colleen,” Suave said, unable to hide a smirk, “everyone gets a shot in PCW—even the coalition you love to hate.”
Consternation washed over Corporate World and Professor McCarthy’s Flock, their smugness replaced with shock and anger. Meanwhile, the Deplorables exchanged looks of cautious optimism, sensing an opportunity.
“Remember folks, in two weeks, it’s greed, creed, or the people’s need!” Suave proclaimed as Dawn McGill turned on her heel, leaving the ring amidst a chorus of reactions, her message delivered and her challenge set.
Chris Cantwell’s Two-Sentence Political Commentary Because two sentences is all you need to get your point across.
TOPIC: Fixing the Political Primary Season
Start with the Iowa Caucus and the New Hampshire Primary because… tradition and the fact Iowa and New Hampshire bring out the best in retail politics.
Then hold a national primary day in February so everyone… not just Iowa and New Hampshire… has a voice in choosing the two nominees who will face off against each other in November.
MAIN EVENT-PROGRESSIVE ALLIANCE MATCH: PCW CEO Joe Biden vs. two other people Ladies and gentlemen, it’s time for the main event!” Johnny Suave’s voice boomed through the arena, electrifying the crowd. “The Progressive Alliance 3-way match is upon us, and what a ride it’s been to get here!”
“Indeed, Johnny,” Colleen Crowder chimed in, her voice dripping with anticipation. “There was talk of starting the season in Michigan and South Carolina, but tradition prevails! Iowa and New Hampshire won’t be sidelined this year.”
Kimber Marshall stood in the ring at the ready with the other two candidates already in the ring but getting the jobber entrance tonight.
“Thanks to the swift reaction of Joe Biden himself to get here tonight,” Suave added, “saving him from what could have been an embarrassing loss in the political wrestling calendar.”
Tumblr media
The blue side erupted into a cacophony of cheers while the red side jeered as Biden emerged, draped in a black shroud and robe that would make Emperor Palpatine envious.
Escorted to the ring by the Space Force, clad in black and white outfits, Biden’s glare cut through the smoke machines and spotlight haze, fixing on the ring where his opponents awaited.
“Look at him, Johnny. He’s got the gravitas of a man who’s seen a thousand political battles and lived to tell the tale,” Colleen remarked, half in awe.
“Or signed a thousand executive orders,” quipped Suave, not missing a beat.
Colleen rolled her eyes.  “Either way, he looks the part tonight.”
Tumblr media
“Here we go!” Suave shouted as Biden halted near the center of the ring, watching stoically as the other two candidates engaged in a heated exchange of verbal jabs and policy slams.
Tumblr media
“Biden, seems to be biding his time,” observed Colleen, her eyes fixed on the unmoving figure.
“Wait, wait… she’s pushing him down now!” Suave’s voice rose in pitch, but Biden remained an unreactive monolith.
“Playing the long game, perhaps?” Colleen mused.
Tumblr media
Suave’s voice cracked with disbelief. “HOLY CRAP!”
“Would you look at that, Johnny! The female politician—she’s… she’s gone!” Colleen’s voice was a mixture of shock and twisted satisfaction as the arena lights flickered.
“Biden was just standing and glaring,” Suave explained.  “Then without warning, two laser bolts shot out of his eyes and incinerated the female politician!”
The remaining politician, his face drained of color, stumbled back in horror before rolling out of the ring, attempting to flee the surreal onslaught.
“Run for it!” Suave exclaimed.
Too late, Biden turned and a second volley of laser bolts from his eyes struck the fleeing figure, reducing him to ash amid gasps and screams from the audience.
“You can run but you can’t hide from Joe Biden, Johnny,” Colleen cracked.
“I guess not.”
Biden walked over and stuck his foot in the ashes of the first victim. The referee makes the count… ONE… TWO… THREE!”
The referee called for the bell.
“Unbelievable! Biden stands victorious!” Colleen declared, almost breathless with excitement.
“Without throwing a single punch,” Suave noted, astounded. “Folks, it doesn’t get any more PCW than this. Absolute power in the literal sense.”
“Your winner,” Kimber Marshall said, keeping a fair distance in between her and Biden by staying out of the ring. “The Supreme CEO of PCW… JOE! BIDEN!”
Biden was facing the wrong way so the referee turned him around so he would be looking at the hard camera at ringside.
“No surprise here,” Suave said. “Joe Biden eases to an easy win-“
The PCW CEO raised his arm and another laser blast from his eyes fried an unlucky beer vendor in the stands about to make a sale.
“…HOLY CRAP!” Suave took a moment to compose himself before wrapping up the show. “Ladies and gentlemen, that’s going to do for this week.  Donald Trump picks up another win and takes another step forward towards a rematch against Joe Biden at PCW Extreme Election Night 2024.”
“The polls don’t matter,” Colleen said.  “When push comes to shove, people will support Joe Biden over Donald Trump.  That’s our narrative.”
“Next weekend, we take this insanity to South Carolina for the next round of the Progressive Alliance match and we will find out who will be wrestling for the PCW Title in two weeks.  If what happened tonight was any indication, you not going to want to miss it!” Suave said, wrapping up the show.
“And if you blink, you may just miss it.” Colleen added with a smile. “Remember, in November it’s going to be a Blue Wave!”

Post-AGT Appearance 1269: The Late Show with Stephen Colbert October 3
Demon Dress would have finished sixth last weekend with a little less than $3 million at the box office. It would have opened last weekend in most foreign countries it was going to be in, first in Japan, with a worldwide total of $25 million so far.
Man of my Dreams would have held at 6 last weekend. Canadian Wildfires would have fallen to 71 on the pop charts but risen to 75 country. A song from Demon Dress would have hit the top 40 last weekend, but I would have nothing to do with the lyrics or tune.
Colbert would put me on in the last 2 segments, recorded earlier in private.
Colbert: Our final guest tonight recorded his visit earlier. He has a hit song high on the charts, a film called Demon Dress doing very well, an upcoming spoken word album and more projects than most people can count. You can, because I have the smartest audience in late night television. So here's the interview I recorded earlier this evening in an undisclosed location with Phil Cole.
(Tape begins.)
Colbert: Phil, we are recording this in an underground bunker because you fear being killed. Is that true?
PBC: (Holding a stack of mail) Yes, these are death threats.
Colbert: Have you alerted the authorities?
PBC: Some of these are from the authorities.
Colbert: Why do people hate you so much/
PBC: I speak the truth.
Colbert: And the truth hurts a lot of feelings, doesn't it?
PBC: Yes, big feelings sometimes.
Colbert: First of all, you didn't participate in the Screen Actors strike.
PBC: I turned in my membership.
Colbert: That means you might not act in any more movies, except the one you produce yourself.
PBC: No one hired me anyways.
Colbert: Now you're the leader of Phillip and Cole's Variety Team.
PBC: Yes.
Colbert: And the team got a little smaller recently.
PBC: Yes, the Ranting 109-Year-Old Man is no longer ranting.
Colbert: But you have an album coming.
PBC: Yes, The Ranting old Man's best Routines comes out November 15.
Colbert: Now Demon Dress is a big hit, but you have another movie on the way, right?
PBC: Yes, January 12 Miley Cyrus becomes The Toad Woman of Tennessee.
Colbert: What's that about?
PBC: She plays a singer.
Colbert: She should be good at that.
PBC: Yes, after her singing and acting career start to flatline she goes into porno, specializing in tongue work. Hoping to do better she studies toads and slowly a doctor turns her into a toad woman.
Colbert: Ha ha I can't wait to see that.
PBC: Everyone has to wait until January 12.
Colbert: Now the other night on a different show you made a bold statement about the next Presidential election.
PBC: Yes.
Colbert: Would you like to repeat it, or extend it maybe.
PBC: Yes, our country can not survive another Donald Trump administration.
Colbert: He's been accused of 3 serious crimes.
PBC: Yes, and for at least one of them he is definitely guilty and the charge should be treason!
Colbert: So instead of putting him back in...
PBC: Anyone paying attention can see that Joe Biden is not the antidote. So please, Republicans and Democrats, choose one of the good candidates. Voters please also consider the Libertarian candidate. I'm trying hard to find the party a good one this time.
Colbert: So that's why you're recording this in an underground bunker, right?
PBC: Yes.
Colbert: Now, every time you appear on our show you eliminate one of the top 10 suspects about the last name that makes your colleague Phillip sick. Last Friday Senator Diane Feinstein passed away. Was she perhaps the last name?
PBC: No!
Colbert: That's emphatic.
PBC: I told her to retire in 2018, knowing she couldn't finish the term, but as far as I know, no one on the team ever found her particularly offensive.
Colbert: now let's look at the top 10 list of suspects. It starts with Nancy Pelosi, then people like Hillary Clinton, Bill Clinton, Vladimir Putin all the way down to tenth place Harvey Weinstein. Which one are you going to eliminate tonight?
PBC: King Charles III.
(Tape ends.)
Colbert: After the break Phillip and Cole's Variety Team tells us what they think of King Charles III. Stay tuned.

Secretary Blinken Highlights Strong US-India Economic Ties and Strategic Partnership
Tumblr media
SECRETARY BLINKEN:  Thank you, everyone.  (Applause.)  Please – thank you, thank you very much.  (Applause.)  Please, take a seat.  I have to say I’ve never really gotten used to people standing up when I enter a room.  I always say look, if you really need the exercise, go ahead.  And I’m honored to be here tonight as Scott Nathan’s opening act.  I know you’re looking forward to hearing from Scott. But on a serious note, let me first begin by expressing again the deepest condolences of the United States to the victims of the terrible train crash in Odisha just a week or so ago. I had an opportunity to speak to my friend Foreign Minister Jaishankar when we – just shortly after the accident, and just to convey to him how much it had resonated here in the United States as we saw the images and to let him know that we stand with the people of India as they recover from this human tragedy. Ed, thank you for your incredibly generous words – overly generous words – but especially for your leadership.  This could not be, as I’ll get into in a few moments, a more critical, a more vital time for our business communities, our private sectors to be working together, and your leadership in helping to make that happen is more important than ever. To my friend Ambassador Sandhu, thank you for your remarkable work in advancing the relationship between our countries and between our people.  Now, I know your relatively new counterpart in India.  Ambassador Eric Garcetti has hit the ground at a full sprint trying to catch up with you. And maybe more important, your teams are working together, coming up with exciting new ways to further the partnership between our countries.  I couldn’t be more pleased that both India and the United States have remarkable representatives in each other’s countries at this time. And to my colleague and friend Ambassador Keshap, I’m not only grateful for your work here, but for decades of service to your country at the State Department, including as chargé in India during the COVID pandemic. I had an opportunity to make one of my first trips in this job to India at that time and saw the remarkable work that Atul was doing to lead our mission in a very challenging moment, but also to see in that moment the truly extraordinary partnership between India and the United States as we came to each other’s assistance during some of the more challenging moments of COVID for each of our countries. And of course, last but not least, thank you to the entire U.S.-India Business Council for all that you do to connect our businesses, to try to foster more innovation, to expand opportunities in both of our countries. So we are here almost literally on the eve of what we believe will be a historic state visit by Prime Minister Modi – one that will further solidify what President Biden has called the “defining relationship” of the 21st century. Now, this is not something that the President came to yesterday.  I’ve had the immense privilege and pleasure of working for the President for more than 20 years, going back to his time as chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee. And from that time, I know the premium he’s attached to the relationship between our countries and the vision that he’s had for the centrality, the importance, of that relationship. The road that we’ve traveled over the last 25 years has been quite extraordinary, and I think it’s a testament to the importance that we attach to the relationship that it’s a road that has gone through multiple administrations, Democrat and Republican. We continue to move further down the road of strengthening the partnership between our countries. We saw that in the final years of the Clinton administration, through the Bush administration, the Obama administration, the Trump administration, and now the Biden administration. Simply put, we see this defining relationship as a unique connection between the world’s oldest and largest democracies, with a special obligation now to demonstrate that our governments can deliver for and empower all of our citizens. We see all of this in the deep bonds between our people who participate in exchange programs, stream shows like Padma Lakshmi’s Top Chef – I know there are a few folks in the audience who do that – but maybe most important here in the United States an Indian American diaspora over 4 million strong and growing stronger every day. We see the importance of the partnership in a shared commitment to address regional and global challenges – promoting health security, working with our Quad partners to build a free, open, secure, prosperous Indo-Pacific where people, where goods, where ideas can travel freely and rules are applied fairly. I have witnessed India’s constructive leadership on these issues up close these last two and a half years, and I see it in their ambitious agenda at this year’s G20; in our new I2U2 group with India, with Israel, with the UAE, the United States; and in probably more than a dozen meetings that I’ve had with my counterpart, my colleague, my friend, Foreign Minister Jaishankar. I’ve had the opportunity now to make several trips to India in this job, including one in March where I actually took an auto-rickshaw ride that probably gave my security detail a little bit of concern.  (Laughter.)  But we made it through. But the reason this evening is so important is our conviction that at the heart of the strategic relationship between our countries are economic ties.  And under the leadership of President Biden and Prime Minister Modi and private sector leaders in this room tonight and beyond, it is growing stronger by the day. Last year, as you all know, trade between our nations reached a record $191 billion, making the United States the largest trading partner for India.  American companies have now invested at least $54 billion in India, from manufacturing to telecommunications. In the United States, Indian companies have invested over $40 billion in IT, in pharmaceuticals, and more, supporting 425,000 jobs from California to Georgia.  Just this February, Air India announced the historic purchase of more than 200 Boeing aircraft, which will support an estimated 1 million-plus jobs across 44 of the United States. Both the U.S. and India are making transformative investments in our own countries to build our own strength – President Biden’s $1.2 trillion Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, followed after that by the CHIPS Act, and as well the Inflation Reduction Act; Prime Minister Modi’s 100 trillion rupee infrastructure plan. All of this will make our economies more productive and more attractive for investors.  And India has joined three pillars of our new Indo-Pacific Economic Framework – committing to build more resilient supply chains, to seize clean energy opportunities, and to combat corruption and other challenges that undermine the efforts of our governments. Together, we’re helping to shape the innovations of the future, but not just the innovations themselves, also – and this is so critical – the norms, the standards, and rules that govern them, from artificial intelligence to quantum computing. In January, this council co-hosted a roundtable where our two governments inaugurated a new initiative on Critical and Emerging Technologies. We’re elevating and expanding the strategic technology partnership between governments, but also between businesses, between academic institutions in both our countries – because we believe how technology is designed, how it is used should be informed by democratic values and respect for human rights. Central to all of this cooperation is diversifying and deepening our supply chains with trusted countries, while also reducing strategic dependencies.  My friend and colleague Secretary of Commerce Raimondo and her counterpart Minister Goyal recently established a partnership to make our semiconductor supply chains more resilient. In Tamil Nadu, the U.S. International Development Finance Corporation – and you’ll hear from Scott in a little while – provided $500 million to help a leading American company build a solar manufacturing facility. This project will power roughly 30 million lightbulbs in homes, in schools, in businesses across India; it will create over a thousand jobs for Indians and Americans; and maybe most significantly, it will shift a key component of our clean energy supply chains to a close partner. That’s what we mean when we say we are building more resilient, more diversified supply chains. Finally, we are investing in our people.  The U.S. and India’s education systems have produced the leaders of some of our most iconic companies – from Google to InfoSys to – not to mention former Mastercard CEO Ajay Banga, who is now of course the new president of the World Bank and onetime president of the USIBC. Indian Americans have created a third – a third – of all immigrant-founded startups in the United States.  Think about that for a minute.  That is extraordinarily powerful.  (Applause.) And maybe most significant for the future – for the future of ties between our countries – we have more than 200,000 Indians studying in American universities, making India the second-largest source of international students in the United States, and we want to continue encouraging that remarkable dynamism.  This is how you build the bridges of the future. At Howard University last year, when Foreign Minister Jaishankar was visiting, the two of us went there together and we announced an Education and Skills Development Working Group to try to address skills gaps, to promote vocational training, to spur entrepreneurship in our countries. Whether it’s investing and inventing new technologies, whether it’s combating the climate crisis, whether it’s helping to build more inclusive economies, I have tremendous confidence that the rising generation of Indians, the rising generation of Americans will take the relationship between us to new heights. And in doing that they will not only benefit our countries, they will benefit the entire world. Now, we know that India and the United States are big, complicated countries.  We certainly have work to do to advance transparency, to promote market access, to strengthen our democracies, to unleash the full potential of our people. But the trajectory of this partnership is unmistakable, and it is filled with promise.  It’s being written in places like North Carolina, where our growing engagement is benefiting both our countries.  The Tar Heel State has become a hub for Indian investment, with tech companies like HCL creating 2,400 jobs, training American high schoolers for IT careers. Meanwhile, Charlotte-based Honeywell is employing 13,000 people from Kolkata to Mumbai, making safer airplanes, making energy-efficient buildings.  Duke University has established a presence in Bangalore, strengthening academic and research exchanges between our people. Commenting on this explosion of U.S.-India commercial activity, one North Carolina entrepreneur from Gujarat observed, and I quote, “This could not have happened 15 years ago.” And that’s an important comment, because it puts a fine point on the fact that the evolution in this relationship just over the past couple of decades has been extraordinary.  And in the day-in/day-out, it’s easy sometimes to lose sight of that.  It’s also why a moment like this evening and a moment like next week is so important. It’s an opportunity to put where we are, where we’ve come from, and where we’re going in perspective.  And so I couldn’t be more pleased to actually kick off tonight the upcoming state visit with all of you.  This is really what our growing relationship is all about, and so much of it goes to the tremendous work that all of you are facilitating. I talked about that we couldn’t imagine this 15 years ago.  What I’m now trying to imagine and what I know you’re all working on – not only imagining but bringing to life – is what this is going to look like 15 years from now or 50 years from now, and all the benefits that it will bring to Indians and Americans alike. Thank you for all you’re doing to make this real, to make this vibrant, to make this exciting for both of our countries.  You’re at the heart of one of the most extraordinary relationships in the world.  I can’t thank you enough for all the work that you’re doing.  Thank you, everyone.  (Applause.)   Sources: THX News & US Department of State. The problem is going to experience is it the cops are going to be at his door, they're in several complaints of odd noises coming from the apartment, late at night. Including some really short screams out the front and out the back. They're tired of hearing from him and they are sending for the Patty wagon now. It's a huge day and they're going to try and hold him in Charlotte prison because they want to get stuff out of his and money.
Also Stan is hitting him pretty good and he needs that stuff too and they've been casually taking it for a while and stans being rude to our son again.. and there is a cost for but he's doing as they see who it is and they are attacking his people here that's why stan wants to grab him. There's a few people who see it and it looks like he moves him to the middle where it's easier to clear, and the death Star makes a lot of sense. Because if he does that it fries trying to remember his people and probably him in the prison and it makes a lot of sense. It's happening right now all the stuff and they are into confiscating things if you were using as weapons, and stansays your next in line to our son to take a beating like Trump is what we say back cuz you saw your son to get to you but you're saying it's foolish. And what they say is how's that work at we say like this threatening Sherry to get some information from her wecoulduse it on you. .... Just take that out of there that's what you saying about me you're going to stop it from threatening me but you want to threaten me or even harm me I could do to the cities and s*** so he says he's speaking out of turn. And he kind of meant it and said it and we said what a f****** useless person. So most are obtuse about it . And we will fire on anyone who is going to harm our son that's what we're saying if you can't keep it straight or any other reason. So he is out there hitting in the Midwest and upper Midwest his force comprises half of the attack squadron. The other half is made up of biden. You're one of the job because these idiots keep harassing them threatening them telling them what to do taking their stuff going after the people. You discovered that the max started dressed by them too they're sitting there getting hit by them too they get pouring out of the Midwest and the East Coast right now it is around 500 million an hour that come out of there but earlier than tonight it was one actually in an hour and yeah we rolled off Minneapolis the whole thing because usually they exit the Midwest they would come right through that area. There's a lot going on a lot it takes a lot of concentration to do just whatever son is doing not to mention what it does all day long just to make it cuz she will have them in down and they're very rude obnoxious evil people like stupid noises all night long and and I need to stop and we are sending any Cruise guy next door won't back down for any price off one person who's valuable. Very stupid person and we're going to annihilate him and his will be gone and hate to say it but it's kind of a mistake but without them things would not have changed and we would not be taking over we're going through a lot of businesses out there and find a lot of records and what they're saying is making a very angry and it was sending people back in time and it's saving lives tons of lives and we are getting data on tons of them no you sense into his cadre and they went and grabbed a ton of it and every day they were in there, I'm doing the job the job kept getting bigger and bigger and one day it will send me they said we think we're making it worse and it was directly attention to spots and he said take a huge force and evacuate them if we get permission so he did that a couple times and attracted attention elsewhere and they said we can't keep doing that so we have to evacuate them and we kept doing it and over and over by the way for a few months and then it stopped the idiots felt they were alone and it was worse and I started going after him again now theyre finally dying. They're a big forces that we're heading north and if they group up we should eliminate them and we will and we are started yesterday afternoon. It's a huge huge company that we have and they're very small by comparison. Yes so Giants and there are a ton of them out there trying to attack Giants and they lose miserably. We're bringing deadly force on them for what they're trying to do and that's what it is.
The Midwest should be empty by today it's half empty now. Trump is fighting his kids and Trump's clones are the hit quite a bit a lot of hits on them as a matter of fact about 50% of them are hit when they first get there and the rest of them in a few minutes it's going all day like this up there.
Pretty soon Trump will be arrested pulled out of the house. We see mack and stan trying, and we see a whole bunch of cops going after other people and it's furious and here and it's because of what's happening in the Midwest they're trying reprisals and devices and all sorts of stuff it's happening All over America and the world actually pretty soon that they're having to pull them out and it's going on pretty big and we have to be there.

February 12th, 13th, 14th, Varadero
15th, Varadero to Home
12th
Slept in and then wandered down to breakfast. Sat down with the Concierge to book our dinners for the week. Tonight was full at all the specialty restaurants but Monday we are at the International (French) and Tuesday the Italian restaurant. Japanese was booked. Then headed to the beach and spent the morning down there. The water is a beautiful turquoise colour, however it is very windy and the water is choppy. Lunch at the sports bar, burger and fries and lemonade. Then walked around and found chairs by the pool, where we swam, read and people watched. Larry went to inquire about deep sea fishing. $450.00 US and sail fish not in season, probably only catch Dorado. Opted not to go. Broke my croc flip flops. Dinner at the buffet was excellent. Checked out the sports bar with the big screen tv. Decided to go back to our room to watch the game. Larry has caught a chill. It has been very windy and cool this evening, I wore a sweater. Super Bowl game was on the tv with the Commentator speaking in Cuban Spanish. When the score was 14/14 Larry feel asleep so I turned it off and read.
13th
Up just after 8:00 and went for breakfast. Bit of a shamozzel this morning, they ran out of plates so breakfast took awhile. After breakfast we changed and walked from here down the peninsula to the Marina and the shops. Once this was a stop for cruise ships. Trump cancelled all cruise ship stops to Cuba but I don’t know if Biden has rescinded that law. Anyway tons of shops and restaurants and no customers. Finally found a shop that sold little tshirts (first one in Cuba) $20 US of size 3. I chose not to purchase. Also found a shop that sold jewellery with supposedly black coral imbedded in the silver pieces. Black coral is an endangered spices and not permitted back in Canada. Don’t know about other countries. Walked back from the marina, changed to our suits and today found a lounging bed with a canopy by the pool. No getting burnt this morning anyway. Lunch and more sitting by the pool. There were dancing lessons and competitions today by the pool. Very entertaining. There is a large and I mean very large Spanish man and he is always dancing and boy can he move. Went back to our room to dress for dinner, we have dinner reservations at the Marseille restaurant. We have Greek salad, chicken salad and Cordon Bleu and Chicken and rice dish with peach pie. Beautiful dinner.
14th
Up for breakfast and then walked a bit before heading to the pool area. Characters dressed a Cupid and love gods walking around handing out flowers. Spent sometime talking with a couple and their sister from Montreal. Larry has made some friends from Alberta and Whitby, Barrie area. Lunch was sparse today, wondering what is happening. This afternoon by the pool, there was synchronized swimming, aerial acrobatics with ribbons, dancing and acrobatic flips and such. Wonderful afternoon of entertainment for Valentine’s Day. Dinner was at the Italian restaurant where they served a 5 course dinner. Beautifully prepared and delicious. Walked back to our room. The evening are very cool.
15th
Breakfasted, gathered up our stuff and hopped in a taxi for 10:00 to the airport. Our flight was for 1:55 pm so we looked for food and souvenirs in the airport. Food very sparse and no T-shirt’s that were appropriate for my monkeys. Flight was on time and Scoop staff were great, plane was new, clean and comfortable. We arrived on time and luggage was there when we arrived at the carousel. We had two medical emergencies during the flight that required the paramedics to come on board before we could deplane. It appeared both ladies would be okay, we hope. Grabbed a taxi to our park and fly hotel as we didn’t want to wait. Went for dinner at the Kelsey’s near the hotel where we had a great dinner. Drove home through high winds but arrived home safe and sound just before 10:00 pm. Looked like high winds at home had taken down the eavestrough on the garage.
Great trip, glad to be home.

Sarah Huckabee Sanders says the dividing line in America is between normal and crazy.
Americans want common sense from their leaders, but in Washington, the Biden administration is doubling down on crazy.
Here are the full remarks, as prepared for delivery, of Arkansas Gov. Sarah Huckabee Sanders, in the Republican response to President Joe Biden’s State of the Union address.
tinyurl.com/yhpkrhhx
“Good evening. I’m Sarah Huckabee Sanders.
“Being a mom to three young children taught me not to believe every story I hear. So forgive me for not believing much of anything I heard tonight from President Biden. From out-of-control inflation and violent crime to the dangerous border crisis and threat from China, Biden and the Democrats have failed you.
“They know it. And you know it.
“It’s time for a change.
“Tonight, let us reaffirm our commitment to a timeless American idea: that government exists not to rule the people, but to serve the people.
“Democrats want to rule us with more government control, but that is not who we are. America is the greatest country the world has ever known because we are the freest country the world has ever known, with a people who are strong and resilient.
“Five months ago, I was diagnosed with thyroid cancer. It was a hard time for our family, particularly for our kids – Scarlett, Huck, and George – but we kept our faith and persevered.
“Thanks to exceptional doctors here in Arkansas, a successful surgery, and the grace of God, I am cancer-free.
“Through it all, I couldn’t help but think about my mom.
“She was 20 years old and in her first year of marriage when she was diagnosed with spinal cancer. The doctors told her she might not live. If she did live, they said she’d never walk again, and if she did walk, she’d definitely never have children.
“The daughter she was told she’d never have was just sworn in as the new Governor of Arkansas and is speaking to you tonight.
“Adversity and fear of the unknown can paralyze us, but faith propels us to charge boldly ahead.
“We can’t stand still in the face of great challenges. You and I were put on this earth for such a time as this to charge boldly ahead.
“I’ll be the first to admit, President Biden and I don’t have a lot in common.   “I’m for freedom. He’s for government control.
“At 40, I’m the youngest governor in the country. At 80, he’s the oldest president in American history.
“I’m the first woman to lead my state. He’s the first man to surrender his presidency to a woke mob that can’t even tell you what a woman is.
“In the radical left’s America, Washington taxes you and lights your hard-earned money on fire, but you get crushed with high gas prices, empty grocery shelves, and our children are taught to hate one another on account of their race, but not to love one another or our great country.
“Whether Joe Biden believes this madness or is simply too weak to resist it, his administration has been completely hijacked by the radical left.
“The dividing line in America is no longer between right or left.
“The choice is between normal or crazy.
“It is time for a new generation of Republican leadership.
“Upon taking office just a few weeks ago I signed Executive Orders to ban CRT, racism, and indoctrination in our schools, eliminate the use of the derogatory term ‘Latinx’ in our government, repealed COVID orders and said never again to authoritarian mandates and shutdowns.
“Americans want common sense from their leaders, but in Washington, the Biden administration is doubling down on crazy.
“President Biden inherited the fastest economic recovery on record. The most secure border in history. Cheap abundant, home-grown energy. Fast-rising wages. A rebuilt military. And a world that was stable and at peace. But over the last two years, Democrats destroyed it all.
“Despite Democrats’ trillions in reckless spending and mountains of debt, we now have the worst border crisis in American history.
“As a mom, my heart breaks for every parent who has lost a son or daughter to addiction. 100,000 Americans a year are now killed from drug overdoses, largely from fentanyl pouring in across our southern border. Yet the Biden administration refuses to secure the border and save American lives.
“And after years of Democrat attacks on law enforcement and calls to ‘defund the police’, violent criminals roam free, while law-abiding families live in fear.
“Beyond our border, from Afghanistan to Ukraine, from North Korea to Iran, President Biden’s weakness puts our nation and the world at risk.
“And the President’s refusal to stand up to China, our most formidable adversary, is dangerous and unacceptable.
“President Biden is unwilling to defend our border, defend our skies, and defend our people. He is unfit to serve as commander in chief.
“And while you reap the consequences of their failures, the Biden administration seems more interested in woke fantasies than the hard reality Americans face every day.
Most Americans simply want to live their lives in freedom and peace, but we are under attack in a left-wing culture war we didn’t start and never wanted to fight.
“Every day, we are told that we must partake in their rituals, salute their flags, and worship their false idols, all while big government colludes with Big Tech to strip away the most American thing there is—your Freedom of speech.
“That’s not normal. It’s crazy, and it’s wrong.
“Make no mistake: Republicans will not surrender this fight. We will lead with courage and do what’s right, not what’s politically correct or convenient.
“Republicans believe in an America where strong families thrive in safe communities. Where jobs are abundant, and paychecks are rising. Where the freedom our veterans shed their blood to defend is the birthright of every man, woman, and child.
“These are the principles Republican governors are fighting for. And in Washington under the leadership of Senate Republicans and Speaker Kevin McCarthy, we will hold the Biden administration accountable.
“Down the street from where I sit is my alma mater, Little Rock Central High. As a student there, I will never forget watching my dad, Governor Mike Huckabee, and President Bill Clinton hold the doors open to the Little Rock Nine, doors that forty years earlier had been closed to them because they were black. Today, those children once barred from the schoolhouse are now heroes memorialized in bronze at our statehouse.   “I’m proud of the progress our country has made. And I believe giving every child access to a quality education – regardless of their race or income – is the civil rights issue of our day.
“Tomorrow, I will unveil an education package that will be the most far reaching, bold, conservative education reform in the country.   “My plan empowers parents with real choices, improves literacy and career readiness, and helps put a good teacher in every classroom by increasing their starting salary from one of the lowest to one of the highest in the nation.   “Here in Arkansas and across America, Republicans are working to end the policy of trapping kids in failing schools and sentencing them to a lifetime of poverty.    “We will educate, not indoctrinate our kids, and put students on a path to success.
“It’s time for a new generation to lead. This is our moment. This is our opportunity.
“A new generation born in the waning decades of the last century, shaped by economic booms and stock market busts, forged by the triumph of the Cold War and the tragedy of 9/11. A generation brimming with passion and new ideas to solve age-old problems. A generation moored to our deepest values and oldest traditions, yet unafraid to challenge the present order and find a better way forward.
“If we seize this moment together, America can once again be the land of the free and home of the brave.
“During my two and a half years at the White House, I traveled on every foreign trip with the President.
“A trip I will never forget was on December 25, 2018.
“My husband Bryan and I had just cleaned up wrapping paper that had been shoved into every corner of our house thanks to our three kids, when I had to walk out on my own family’s Christmas, unable to tell them where I was going, because the place I’d be traveling to was so dangerous they didn’t want anybody to know that the President was going to be on the ground for even a few hours.
“We boarded Air Force One in total darkness—there were no lights on the plane, no lights on the runway, our phones and computers shut down and turned in. We were going completely off the grid.
“Nearly twelve hours later in the pitch-black of the night, we landed in the war-torn part of western Iraq. It was again a similar scene—no lights on the plane, no lights on the runway.
“The only light you could see was coming from about a mile away in a dining hall where hundreds of troops—who were in the fight against ISIS— had gathered, expecting to celebrate Christmas with senior military leadership from around the region.
“They had absolutely no idea that the President and First Lady were about to walk into that room.
“And when they did—it was a sight, and a scene, and a sound I hope I never forget.
“The room erupted. Men and women from every race, religion, and region, every political party, every demographic you can imagine started chanting in perfect unison over and over and over again, ‘USA, USA, USA.’
“It was a perfect picture of what makes our country great.
“One of the young soldiers yelled from the back, ‘Mr. President, I reenlisted in the military because of you.’ The President said, ‘and son, I am here because of you.’
“Shortly after, that young soldier came up to me and said, ‘Sarah, you have a tough job.’ I told him ‘What I do is nothing. You take bombs and bullets. That’s a tough job.’
“And in a moment that I know I’ll cherish for the rest of my life, that soldier reached up, and pulled the Brave Rifles Patch he wore on his shoulder and placed it into my hand, a sign of ultimate respect, and said, ‘Sarah, we are in this together.’
“Overwhelmed with emotion and speechless, I just hugged him, with tears in my eyes and a grateful heart for our heroes who keep us free.
“That young man and everyone who has served before him, all of those who serve alongside him, and the thousands we know who will be called upon to serve after him, deserve to know they have a country and community back home doing our part in the fight for freedom.
“America is great because we are free.
“But today, our freedom is under attack, and the America we love is in danger.
“President Biden and the Democrats have failed you.
“It’s time for a change.
“A New Generation of Republican leaders is stepping up, not to be caretakers of the status quo, but to be changemakers for the American people.
“We know not what the future holds, but we know who holds the future in His hands. And with God as our witness, we will show the world that America is still the place where freedom reins and liberty will never die.
“Thank you. God bless you. And God Bless America.”

Arkansas Governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders Speech Quotes.
“The dividing line in America is no longer between right or left. "
“Americans want common sense from their leaders, but in Washington, the Biden administration is doubling down on crazy."
“President Biden is unwilling to defend our border, defend our skies, and defend our people. He is unfit to serve as commander in chief."
“Every day, we are told that we must partake in their rituals, salute their flags, and worship their false idols, all while big government colludes with Big Tech to strip away the most American thing there is—your Freedom of speech."
“America is great because we are free.
“But today, our freedom is under attack, and the America we love is in danger.
“President Biden and the Democrats have failed you."
“We know not what the future holds, but we know who holds the future in His hands."
The Biden regime doubling down on crazy is reflected in the constant nonsense the fake media and the biden regime keeps telling the American people.
"President" biden is unfit to be commander in chief because of his demented mental state.
Biden is totally under the control of evil forces who, “Every day, we are told that we must partake in their rituals, salute their flags, and worship their false idols, all while big government colludes with Big Tech to strip away the most American thing there is—your Freedom of speech."
One of the rituals include accepting transgender mutations as normal for children.
Another daily ritual is the biden regime telling us everything is great and there is no inflation, prices are not going up and up jobs are increasing when in fact they are decreasing as companies have massive layoffs reported every day.
The daily ritual of suppressing the truth continues because the biden regime and obama regime have weaponized parts of the federal government against the American People.
Remember this:
“We know not what the future holds, but we know who holds the future in His hands."
We all can trust God for what the future holds.
Proverbs 3:5-6
3:5 Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.
3:6 In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.

..."To be fair, many other outlets took a more responsible approach, framing Biden's speech as the warning it was intended and not merely as a political posture.
During Thursday night's somber warning about the threat to democracy posed by Donald Trump and his rising fascist movement, President Joe Biden repeatedly emphasized the importance of being "honest with each other and with ourselves" about the current situation. "But as I stand here tonight, equality and democracy are under assault. We do ourselves no favor to pretend otherwise."
The president reiterated that point later, noting that it is "my duty to level with you, to tell the truth no matter how difficult, no matter how painful."
Presumably, it is also the duty of the mainstream media to level with the American people, to tell these truths, no matter how painful and regardless of how much whining they get in response from Republicans. So too, it is the media's duty to set aside the cynical "horse race" coverage that can reduce existential issues to little more than political game-playing. And to admit that the typical "both sides" and "partisanship" frameworks don't apply in a situation where one party has embraced a fascist assault on democracy, while the other party is trying to stop them. It is on the media to prioritize the truth over some ill-fitting "balance" between two parties in an era when one of those parties rejects democracy itself.
But of course, what we all too often get is a bunch of media hand-wringing about "partisanship" while ignoring the seriousness of the crisis in favor of a reductive lens treating this as little more than some campaign shenanigans.
Amber Phillips of the Washington Post formatted her post-speech analysis in a listicle format. The first item? "This speech did not shy away from partisanship." Yep, Republicans are embracing authoritarian, anti-democratic politics, but the Beltway press keeps acting as if "partisanship" is the thing to worry about.
Peter Baker's equally blinkered analysis at the New York Times starts with the headline, "A Rematch of Biden v. Trump, Two Years Early" and just gets worse from there.
"Rather than a referendum on his own presidency, which has been hurt by high inflation and low public morale, Mr. Biden wants to make the election a choice between 'normal' and an 'extremism that threatens the very foundations of our Republic,' as he put it on Thursday," Baker writes. It's as if a literal fight over whether we'll continue to have a democracy is little more than the usual pre-election political posturing.
ABC News also approached the question of rising fascism as if it were political theater criticism with the headline "Biden seeks to reframe midterms into stark choice between democracy and Trump-led extremism."
What's frustrating is that all of these outlets have otherwise done rock solid reporting showing that Biden's warning is not "partisanship," but flat-out facts.
"We are not powerless in the face of these threats.  We are not bystanders in this ongoing attack on democracy."
The Washington Post recently published an extensive expose of how insurrectionist candidates are winning Republican primaries, based on insinuated but unsubtle promises to use the offices they're vying for to steal the 2024 election for Trump. ABC News has reported on how Trumpist politicians and activists have already dramatically undermined the election system. The New York Times editorial board even went so far as to recently call for Trump's prosecution, in light of the growing threat he poses and the crimes he's likely committed.
Yet, once a Democrat opens his mouth and speaks, the bone-deep terror of Republicans' bad faith whining kicks in, and far too many mainstream media outlets hide behind chatter about "partisanship" and "optics" and "both sides," unable to speak the plain truth to their readers.
Spinning a stark message about the future of democracy into little more than a political gambit may feel "fair" to journalists, but it's actually very unfair to readers. It signals to readers that they shouldn't take the threat seriously, but should simply tune this all out as political hyperbole. But the opposite is true. Readers need to understand that Biden is telling the truth and, if anything, he understated the case. (Mostly by underestimating how many Republicans are, in fact, fully on board with Trump's authoritarian agenda.) That this isn't about partisan politics at all, but about whether democratic politics as we know it will exist after the next two election cycles, or whether Trump will successfully destroy it."
