#what weird timing to come to George’s defence

So @strawberry-daiquiris wrote an incredible F1 Traitors AU (seriously, go read it) and was kind enough to let me paddle around in the Galex end of the pool.
Many thanks to @latecomersprivilege, for whom this is a belated birthday gift, an almost on time Valentine's gift, and ultimately not what she asked for but what she's getting!
It’s a month since the last episode aired and George hasn’t messaged him.
Oh, he’s in the group chat - he’s the admin of the group chat. He’s posting memes, even the ones about himself, nearly every day. Asking very sincerely after people’s partners, their kids. Adding little crying laughing emojis to almost all the jokes. (Almost all - never Alex’s. Not even once. Which. Come on. Checo’s not even that funny.)
So. Yeah, it’d been bad, at the end, at their last round table together, George damp eyed and smiling through it and Alex nearly fumbling his own defence trying to tell him one more time “it’s just a game”.
But. Like. Not so bad as to cancel out everything else. Or at least, Alex had thought so. Hoped so.
It’s been a month.
Hey just wondering if we shd have a coffee or smthg? Clear the air?
Sure. When?
Nxt wk? Peckham?
(George told him all about his little flat in Dulwich, how he properly loved all the twee village-y shit like the wooden sign-posts and bougie cafes, in their murmured conversations in the hotel corridors, heads ducked together and voices low. Alex had taken the piss, but so softly he’d barely recognised his own cadence. That- that had been the first clue, before he’d started noticing how George’s adams apple bobbed when he got loud.
But Dulwich is packed to the brim with Traitors fans, has to be, all middle class mums and families that gather round the telly of an evening to actually spend time together. They’d be spotted in seconds. So Peckham feels safer, crowded and anonymous and too fucking cool to pay attention if Alex has to get on his knees and beg George to- to-)
The cafe’s still a bit posh, which means it’s basically deserted. George is wearing the kind of T-shirt that only fits that well because it’s expensive.
He’s ordered tea already, and Alex wants to remind him to drink up, like he did at breakfast every morning, because George would always get too into their conversation to finish before it got cold. He’d slug it back anyway, wincing, and Alex would pretend to ignore the line of his throat.
“I’m sorry you didn’t win,” George blurts. “I know I- I didn’t help, I know, but after, I did want it to be you. You’d worked so hard.”
Alex stares at him. “I never thought I would. Maybe near the end, a bit, but. Well. I got lucky.”
George pulls a face. “Come on, you were brilliant at it. So convincing. I really thought I’d find out you were, like, an actor or something.”
George smiles at that, small and tight. “Oh, yeah, the office have been so weird about it. Saying they didn't watch, and then making jokes that prove they did. I've stopped paying attention to it.”
Alex tries to laugh, like it’s a joke. Like he hadn’t talked George’s ear off about the practice. How he’d use the money, if they won - as Faithful - to get back to his veterinary degree, properly qualify. “Nah, still at my old place. They’ve, uh, let me take the backroom stuff for a bit, while it dies down.”
Alex nods. Pretends George has got better at lying. “Hope they're not being nasty.”
“Oh, not too bad.” The ‘too’ makes Alex want to snarl, set his teeth in someone's neck. Bastards. And George's blasé tone runs a little thin as he goes on. “Might quit, actually, try the influencer thing for a bit. It's basically the same as sales, just, you know. Different product.”
“You'd be good at that,” Alex tries. “Influential. I'd be, uh, influenced.” In the time it takes George to blink three times, Alex experiences all nine levels of hell and a few more added just for him.
I'd be influenced. Christ.
“How are you doing with that, sponsorships and stuff?” George asks and Alex shrugs. He’s got his fans, the ones who think he was robbed, rather than bottled it. His Insta’s big, now, not millions but, like, decent. Marketable. Problem is, he isn’t.
“Turns out, being known as a really good liar doesn’t get loads of hashtag spon ops,” he says, trying to keep it light. Like money hadn’t been the whole point. George’s face falls, the first unrehearsed expression Alex has seen all morning.
“Oh crikey, I’m sorry, I didn’t- cause it’s been alright, and I was a traitor too, at the end so-”
“Yeah, but I forced you into it, didn’t I? I’m the bad guy.” There’s a decent TikTok edit of him to that Billie Eilish song, all his smiles and laughs and fond looks, set to the beat of sociopathy. It’s very slick; turned his stomach on the second watch. “Plus, you know, you look like that, which probably helps.”
He knows it’s been more than alright for George. He hasn’t liked any of his Instagram posts, too… proud? ashamed? But he’s seen them all, including the Stories, so George must know he’s been there. Or maybe he doesn’t, maybe there’s hundreds of people, and they’re not mutuals, he remembers abruptly. George didn’t follow him back.
He flips his phone in his hands, once, twice; worries at the crack in the screen down by the bottom right corner, just enough to feel the scrape against the pad of his thumb.
George notices, of course. Those big blue eyes, all the better for spotting clues. Terrible at knowing what they meant. “Do you wanna take a picture for insta then? Show people it’s all water under the bridge?”
“Uh, not really? I mean…” it doesn’t feel under the bridge, or air cleared. Alex still feels like he’s choking on it.
That small wrinkle he used to make fun of appears between George’s brows. “Wasn’t that the point of this?”
“Jesus, no, I’m not-” Alex feels sick, properly sick, hot chocolate coming back on him for a second. “I wanted to be friends - I want to be friends. Again.”
“Again,” George repeats, after a beat.
Alex swallows. Presses the tip of his tongue against the edge of his front teeth, where they turn sharp enough to cut, like a bit of pain now will soothe the sucking void where his stomach used to be. “Right, no, of course. Forget it, look, I'll get these and-”
George catches his wrist before he can make a break for it. His thumb lands in the soft spot between the tendons, where Alex’s pulse beats - ha - traitorously fast.
“Wait. You haven't told me how your mum is. And your sisters. And Luca, obviously, and the cats.”
“The cats?”
“Yeah, obviously. Can't go before I hear about the cats, ‘Lex. All of them. So you should probably, um, sit back down.”
So he does.

Match Review: Brighton & Hove Albion Women 2-2 Manchester United Women
Unlike the Arsenal youth team, Manchester United's women's side did actually make it to Brighton, though it was a difficult affair that took the super sub antics of Rach Williams to save a result...
Tumblr media
For United, it really is a case of Jekyll and Hyde at present. In attack, the reds look strong and full of guile and ideas, but perhaps aren't as clinical as they could be - especially given the class of Geyse but her lack of goals since arriving at United.
In defence, Zelem is a dependable captain in the pivot as a passing 6, and Mary Earps - for all the contract drama - is solid in goal (sorry haters, you're just looking to knock her down a peg). The issue comes with the back four. Gabby George, the die-hard United fan and LB, is out injured and missed massively. In her absence we've seen both Hannah Blundell and Jayde Riviere swap between LB and RB to deputise. Both prefer the right side, both aren't at the level of Ona Batlle there, and both aren't as comfortable as George out left. United's defence suffers as a result of the high pressure being put on the wide positions and chances coming in.
For this game, Millie Turner was all over the shop. She missed an early header defending a corner, which forced a clutch save from Mary Earps, and was miles off Terland for Brighton's opener, but it's not purely Turner's issue. Toone lost the ball from a high risk pass out by Blundell. Galton goes to press but then switches players rather than forcing the press and letting someone else - Blundell in this case - pick up the next player. Blundell hesitated which allowed the pass in to Terland, and Turner isn't on the forward whilst Le Tissier is in a weird no man's land behind the pair of them half marking the other attacker and half loitering. Indecision crippled United for the first goal.
Tumblr media
It wasn't awful from United though. Geyse was denied by the post first half, as was Ella Toone with a cheeky cross-cum-shot which former red Sophie Baggaley tipped onto the crossbar, before blocking Millie Turner at close range.
The second half saw more sustained pressure from United until finally an equaliser, courtesy of a beautiful curling effort by Ella Toone. Top right corner, perfectly out of reach of Baggaley, and you could see the delight on her face as United were finally back in the game.
Brighton smartly broke on the counter, with Veatriki Sarri testing Mary Earps late on, and again the defensive issues were visible; United's back line clearly not holding any semblance of a line or an offside trap. Rather it felt like a scramble to get back and do anything, which is something coaching needs to address asap.
An 89th minute corner was nodded in back post by Brighton captain Bergsvand to give the Seagulls what nearly all thought was a late victory at the Broadfield Stadium, but never say never when Rachel Williams and Fergie Time are involved. The super sub scored a late late 98th minute equaliser, tapping in back post as Brighton's defence couldn't properly head clear Katie Zelem's corner. Not quite a mirror of Brighton's second goal but a true striker's finish and top positioning to be ready for the opportunity.
youtube
With two wins (Villa and Everton) and three draws, United find themselves 6th of 12 in the Women's Super League, though only one point behind City, Spurs, Liverpool and Arsenal - all of whom are on 10 to United's 9 points.
Whilst Everton were easily dispatched, Villa were close to a result against United, as were Leicester and now Brighton. United have only faced Arsenal from the sides above them, so manager Mark Skinner has his work cut out to shape up United's defence ahead of tougher ties in the coming weeks.
The big dilemma will be whether he benches Geyse for Malard as the centre-forward in order to start with the industry of Lucia Garcia, or will he continue to risk being too big a gap between attack and defence?

the max getting shitfaced and seeing george in lewis' flat au got me all 👀👀👀 what was the general idea behind it??? and assuming max gets absolutely dunked on, what did george say to shoo him away? - @ruszhou
Alrighty so the general idea actually starts one step backward, with an exhibitionism fic.
Sue me, when I say George would let Lewis fuck him in front of people, I mean it. And what’s a better way to address your friends newly growing gay realisation than to have him watch you get lovingly railed by your hung boyfriend.
This is also partially @thatsmemate’s idea because I, like all simp boyfriends, will expand on ideas she finds exciting for her attention. Anyway the exhibitionism fic never got finished, or started really, I have a sorta detailed middle smut sector, then I hit a bump where I couldn’t figure out how to continue, and ended up getting side tracked writing a prequel/set up about max getting plastered and showing up at lewis’ door to say sorry.
That… idk maybe some day? I’ll finish? It sorta follows max in the 21 season slowly realising that redbull sucks. And that he also sucks, and that he can’t keep deflecting blame onto Lewis and Merc and others, if he is the root of all his issues. Sort of taking in all the friends he “had” at redbull that got thrown under the car for him to get ahead. Pierre, Alex, daniil, perez. He can kind of rationalise it as the team tell him they just weren’t good enough, they’re just bitter. But he keeps feeling sicker with each race result. The stuff he says doesn’t feel right anymore. He can’t stand the voices around him that try to pad his ego. Then AD happens and he’s feeling weird and wrong when he runs into George who he’s hoping will punch him. Physical pain he can fight and all. But Lewis calls him not worth it and that’s what fucks him up bc it’s so much worse to get told he isn’t worth it. Plus George’s hatred he can’t justify as well (though if max knew he and Lewis were fucking he probably would have been able to).
Then in the weeks following AD he drinks a lot and isolates himself before getting really fucked up and going to see Lewis himself bc that’s the benefit of Monaco, where he is greeted with George, and then promptly passes out on their couch.
The next morning comes with talks and accepting blame and an agreement to do better
———
And there’s not much more to it than that! It started out as a sort of cathartic way to approach making a bigot deal with their actions.
I am white, I’ve never been in Lewis’ specific position and I don’t pretend to, but as a trans person there are some similar things I’ve experienced and god do I want some of those fuckers to realise their lives suck and that making mine worse wont help them.
At the time I could sort of write it bc I could still split fic max from IRL max. But then the season continued AND all the piquet shit happened… it just ended up feeling wrong to write. And that’s happened with more drivers tbh, max is for sure the WORST, but, perez , alonso and sainz I also avoid mentioning. Norris and albon are on that edge. I just ended up wanting to focus on other drivers who don’t make me feel conflicted.
Exhibitionism isn’t off the table tho, that’s what I have a George/Lewis + Valtteri fic for hahaha.
Fuck it here’s another bit of that fic bc I think George is funny even if I might not return to it
———
Alone. Even when he’s dragged back inside he feels alone. The back slaps from partying engineers start to hurt. He can’t hide anymore, Lewis ripped him open with just 3 words. Not worth it. They echo in his mind, never leaving, he can’t bare to look at his trophy. Not worth it. He spends time online, tucked away in his apartment in clothes long since needed washing, reading what Lewis’ fans say about him. ‘Not worth it. He watches his own fans try to attack Lewis for being vocal, then for staying silent. He sees all the dehumanising things they said at his defence. Not worth it. He watches his own interviews, feels sick listening to himself talk. He is sick when his dad visits and berates him for not properly enjoying a win he deserved. It’s no wonder that between resting his head on a freezing toilet rim berating himself, a very expensive bottle of Whisky and a few unanswered calls, he finds himself on Lewis’ doorstep. They didn’t live far apart after all, most drivers in Monaco didn’t. He doesn’t even remember how he got there, but he knows he must look like shit when Lewis opens the door to his flat and his eyes widen
“Max, what are you-, holy shit man are you okay?” Even after everything Lewis is concerned, and that’s all it takes for the walls to finally crumble. If he wasn’t so drunk he’d have been embarrassed by how quickly the tears poured, heaving sobs as the shame crashes over him. Lewis is so much more than he’ll ever be and Max has built an empire on rotting foundations. He doesn’t know what to do, how he’s supposed to fix all this, and now here he is on his rivals doorstep sobbing like a bitch.
Lewis has every right to slam the door in his face. Max would. But Lewis isn’t Max, instead he steps forward immediately, hands hovering as he tries to figure out what the hell is happening, making max weep harder, finally choking out strangled sorries between sobs. As soon as Lewis hears that, he’s tugging max into his flat, shutting the door and wrapping a strong arm around his back and guiding him over to soft and cosy couches, making him sit. Max is lost in his own tears for a while, only sort of registering Lewis setting a glass of water in front of him, and slipping Max’s phone out of his hand to rest on the table. Max is far too drunk at this point, the exhaustion of lacking sleep and food combining with the alcohol into a mix that makes him black out. It’s getting fuzzy, but max is pretty sure that there are more than one set of hands guiding him to lie down, pulling off his shoes and tugging a big blanket over him. There are fingers in his hair, trying to calm him down, and they work too well, max slips into a restless sleep as soon as his breathing stops coming in hitching shudders.
When he wakes, it’s bright out, and his head is pounding worse than after he hit the barriers at jeddah. His mouth is dry, and his limbs ache. His face is sticky and neck stiff from the awkward angle and polo collar he’s apparently slept in. When he can blink one eye open past the blinding light that makes his head scream, he realises he has no fucking idea where he is. He shuts his eyes again and wills the couch below him to swallow him whole, so he doesn’t have to get up and face whatever mess he’d created. He may not remember anything, but he knows a crying hangover when he feels it.
“Ah, the visitor awakens”
A sudden voice speaks next to him, and Max practically bolts up, completely unaware anyone was with him. This turns out to be a mistake as his gut rolls violently, and he hides his face in his knees to try and avoid vomiting.
“Oh Jesus, careful idiot, you’ll throw up,” the unknown voice says, getting closer and then there’s a hand on his back, rubbing between his shoulders
“Lew, hon grab a trash can, I think the couch is in danger” Lewis. He’d shown up to Lewis’ flat last night, that he now remembers. But the voice next to him isn’t Lewis, that’s clear, some part of max knows he’s heard it before. It only takes a couple seconds and then there’s shuffling next to him, and the couch dips on his other side. The movement sends a new ripple of nausea through him, and when he squints an eye open, he’s glad there’s now a small office trash can between his legs.
“Hey Max, good to see you awake” Lewis voice is calm and welcoming, which is a shock considering anyone who was awoken by a sobbing drunk in the early hours of the morning had a fair reason to be annoyed. It takes max a second to reply, waiting till he’s mostly sure he isn’t going to hurl as soon as he opens his mouth.
“I… I feel like I have been hit by a truck”
“You certainly look like it” that’s the unknown voice again, and Max finally manages to open his eyes enough past the dull throbbing at his temples to see who it is. To his complete surprise, none other than George Russell perched on his other side. George looks rumpled, usually well sculpted hair flopping softly over his forehead. His face looks softer, at least softer than max had seen it in a long time, and he’s wearing a big yellow sweater with a 100 across the chest that max is near certain is Lewis’. George must notice the dawning confusion in Max’s eyes, because he sighs and hauls himself up, before turning back to max and Lewis
“I’m making coffee, this is not a conversation I can have uncaffinated”

Humor me (George Weasley x fem!reader)
Summary: Reader can't stand George Weasley but over time she realizes he might be a good addition to her life.
Warnings: crying, angst, let me know if I missed any.
Word count: 5.5k (this is my longest fic so far!)
A/n: I still don't know how to feel about this. A part of me likes it and a part of me feels it could be better. This is my first enemies to lovers and it was very very fun.
———
“Thanks (y/n)! I can always count on you, you’re a lifesaver.” Shouts Neville as he runs down the hall and towards his next class. (Y/n) had helped him put healing salve and a bandage on his cut hand.
“Anytime!” She smiles as she watches him stumble away. She pulls out her book and sits back down on the windowsill.
“Humour me.” Says a foreign voice.
She looks up frowning. “I’m sorry?” She asks politely.
“When was the last time you did something for yourself?” Asks the red-haired boy.
“What are you talking about? I’m doing that right now.” She points to her book: Charms for first years
“That’s weird because I could’ve sworn you were in my charms class and not in first year.” He argues, shoving his hand in his pockets and clicking his tongue.
“Well I’m helping out a first-year next period but I enjoy doing that so I am doing something for myself.” She explains, slightly irritated.
“You can’t be serious?” He waits but she offers no response. She only lifts her nose at him. “That is not taking time for yourself. That’s preparing to help someone else.”
Her nostrils flare as she abruptly snaps her books shut. She shoves it into her bag before swinging it over her shoulder. She steps towards George. She suddenly realizes how tall he is. She gulps before placing a hand on her hip and pointing a finger at him.
“Listen here, helping other people is a very noble thing and if I wish to spend my free time doing that, I should not have to explain myself.”
“Ah, so you admit that you spend your free time helping other people rather than doing something for yourself?”
George smirks at her and she wants to slap it off his stupid pretty face.
“Wha-? No.” She huffs. “I don’t know why I’m arguing this with someone I hardly know but what I mean to say is that yes, it’s demanding and tedious but it’s also rewarding and the most gratifying thing I could ever do, so I believe I am doing something for myself. You just don’t get it because you spend all your time playing stupid pranks on everyone.” She snaps before pulling the strap of her bag further onto her shoulder and walking away. Normally she would feel bad for saying something like that to someone but for some reason she felt George could take it.
“So when will I see you again?” George shouts down the hall.
“I have to go!” She shouts back.
“I’ll see you in class then. Or maybe in the halls again.” He continues.
“Goodbye!” She turns the corner and speeds as far away from George as possible, steam practically fuming from her ears.
———
“Hey (y/n) could I just copy your homework before class? I didn’t have time to do it what with quidditch practice and all.” Asks Angelina.
(Y/n) nods and pulls out her answers, stands and walks to her seat, passing them to her. As (y/n) walks back she sees George slide into the spot next to hers. She grunts before stomping to her seat.
“ ‘Morning.” He sings, kicking his feet on the desk. She rolls her eyes and pushes his feet off, offering no other greeting. Now this is saying something, (y/n) always greets everybody. He laughs a little before turning to his bag and pulling out his textbook.
“Ark, couldn’t you go sit somewhere else?” She asks with a look of disgust.
George shrugs his shoulders. “Yeah, I could, but I’d like to think we’d make a good team and I’d like to test that theory.” He waves a pointed index as if to emphasize his point.
She shudders at the thought of having to work with him. It’s very likely they will, it often happens in potions class. (Y/n) is at the top of the class and she doubts Snape would have any objection to George working with her since she could easily bring up his grade. She sighs as Snape walks in and starts the lecture portion of the class.
“You will have the remaining hour to make your hiccoughing solution. Work with the person next to you.” With a wave of his arms everyone starts opening their textbook and discussing the potion.
To her surprise, George is really good at potions. Logically it makes sense because him and Fred are always creating new things but she never really thought it transferable to school. She watches, a little stunned as George quickly and skillfully goes through the steps of the potion. For the first time since she can last remember, she sits back instead of running the group. George occasionally asks her to cut something or extract oil from a root. She doesn’t argue, it’s sort of nice being told what to do rather than making all the decisions. She doesn’t tell him and refuses to think more of it because that’s not her proper role. She’s the leader, she’s the helper. Maybe this once she’ll let it slide, give herself a break.
Once the bell rings they gather their books and George finally speaks of other things than the potion.
“Relaxing isn’t it?” She tilts her head in confusion. “Not having to take care of others for once.” He continues.
Oh no he didn’t. He just ruined it. He took her small guilty moment of peace and crushed it. “You hardly let me do anything! What was I supposed to do? Fight you?”
George shrugs. “You could’ve.” He winks at her and she lets out an angry moan.
“Ark!” She turns on her heels and walks out of the class without another word.
“Same time next week?” She hears him shout but she’s already in the hallway and simply ignores him.
———
“You know you could give that to a house-elf and they could take care of that for you.” Says George as he leans into the door frame and watches (y/n) clean the chalkboard in the defence against the dark arts classroom.
“Well I don’t need to be taken care of, I’m perfectly capable of doing things on my own thank you very much” she spits back at him.
George and her are acquaintances at best. It’s been a month since they’ve first spoken to each other. Since then he seems to always be around her. Sitting next to her in class, offering to help her with her books in the hall. She’s never asked for him to be there or to share his opinion. Yet he’s there and very verbal about his thoughts.
He steps into the class and sits in the front row. He bounces his leg under the desk and leans back into the chair. He looks nervous but she can tell he’s trying to cover it up.
“What are you doing here?” She asks, curiosity getting the best of her.
“Waiting for Umbridge.” He points up the stairs at the closed door of her office. “I got detention.” He adds.
“What did you do?” She stops cleaning the board and sets the cleaning potion on the desk next to George.
“Gave a ton tongue toffee to Filch. His tongue was four feet long when Umbridge found him.” He chuckles to himself, remembering Umbridge’s reaction.
For the first time ever, (y/n) laughs in front of George. She tries to hold it in but it slips past her. George first looks surprised but soon he’s laughing with her.
“Glad to see someone is standing up to them.” She shakes her head. “Umbridge really is a horrible person. I can't believe all the mean things she’s doing to the students.” Her face is sad. George can see how much she cares for the other students.
“Well, would you look at that? We actually agree on something.” He crosses his arms and smirks at her. “Does this mean we're friends?” He asks.
She barks out a loud laugh. “Don’t get ahead of yourself Weasley.” She grabs her bag and walks out without another word. She can feel George’s gaze following her until she steps into the hall and out of sight. She wonders why her cheeks feel so hot suddenly.
———
(Y/n) is tutoring Seamus Finnigan in the library. They’re whispering over a book when George spots them. He smiles and beelines for their table.
“Mind if I sit here.” He asks, holding onto the chair in front of them. They both look up at him. Seamus smiles and reaches out his hand for a fist bump. (Y/n) rolls her eyes and sticks her tongue out.
“Yeah mate, it’s no problem.” Says Seamus.
“No, you may not. It is very much a problem.” She hisses. Seamus looks at her, shocked by the bitterness in her voice.
“Blimey (y/n), I’ve never heard you so angry before.” He stuns.
She laughs nervously. He’s right, she normally doesn’t talk to people like that. The only exception to the rule is George. She grits her teeth and pastes a smile before looking at George.
“Of course you can sit here George. Any friend of Seamus is a friend of mine.” She somehow manages to sound sweet and somewhat sincere. George raises his eyebrows in surprise. He quickly recollects himself and takes a seat before she changes her mind.
“So, going back to charms. Can you tell me the definition of the substantive charm?” She asks Seamus.
“How long have you been doing this?” George interrupts.
Seamus grabs (y/n)’s arm and reads her watch. He whistles dramatically. “Crickey, it’s been an hour and fifteen minutes. I think we should call it a day.” He grabs his book and bag and gets up. “Thanks again (y/n). See you next week.” And with that, he was off.
(Y/n)’s jaw clenches as she looks from the now empty chair to George.
“Why?” She groans. “Why would you do that?”
“This is great. He got his help and you get a break. What do you say we go down to the dungeon and pull a prank on Malfoy?” He beams at her, pleased with his idea.
She gets the sudden urge to scream. Who does he think he is? Coming into her life and ruining everything. It is quite likely that Seamus won't do as well on the quiz as if he had stayed for the extra fifteen minutes she had planned and now she has to go deal with Hermione who wanted to rant about Ron. Something which she had very much been putting off. She takes a long, deep breath before looking at George again. The urge to scream has faded with the breath but the look on his face makes her see red.
“Could you please, please, find someone else to annoy. I don’t have time for this and you’re really starting to test my patients.” She pleads.
George’s face drops, evidently displeased by her response. He stands from his chair and puts his bag strap over his shoulder.
“Alright, I’ll leave.” He surrenders. There is a pause like he’s debating between leaving or adding another word. To (y/n)’s dissatisfaction, he continues to speak. “Anytime you need someone who doesn’t need help tutoring or homework to copy or healing salve, you know where to find me.”
She laughs loudly making everyone turn to look at her. “Pff yeah okay.” She dismisses, and with that George is turning away and walking out of the library.
She hates the sad feeling that settles in her chest. It’s like it’s telling her she wants him to stay. She rolls her eyes and swears to herself, gathering her things and heading to Hermione’s aid.
No matter how hard she tries not to, she spends the rest of the day thinking about George. His stupid face keeps popping into her head. What does he know? She likes when people ask for help. She is happy being the person people can turn to. She can’t understand what George thinks is wrong with that. Maybe he’s just a horrible person. It’s much easier to tell herself than to think there could be something wrong with her.
———
A week later (y/n) is knocking on Susan Bones’ door and stepping in before hearing a welcome.
“Merlin! I can’t stand him!” She shouts once in her best friend’s dorm room. Susan looks up from her book with her brows knitted.
“Who?” She asks while shutting her book and sitting up.
“George!” She states looking at Susan like she should have known. She shows no sign of further understanding (y/n)’s dilemma.
“Why?” She asks hesitantly. (Y/n) stomps to Susan’s bed and plops onto it.
“First he’s everywhere meddling into my life like it’s his business and now, radio silence.” She adds nothing more, leaving Susan even more confused.
“And that’s a problem because…”
(Y/n) sits up and flails her arms in the air. “Well, why did he make me question myself like that and then just vanish?” She exclaims exasperated.
Susan gapes, further confused. “But, didn’t you ask him to leave you alone?”
“Ark! That’s not the point!” She gets up and stomps out of the room. Susan blinks and looks around the room stunned even though there is no one to share the confusion with.
A moment later (y/n) is back into the room. “What on earth did he mean by if ever you want someone who doesn’t need help, you know where to find me?” She puts her hands on her hips and waits for her friend’s answer. Susan’s eyes light up and she smiles slightly. Now it’s (y/n)’s turn to look confused.
“He said that?” Asks Susan with a hopeful tone.
“Wha- I- Well yes he did but-.” She stops. Susan has left her stunned, she’s too confused to debate.
Susan’s smile grows wider. “Have you heard about Dombledors army?” She asks.
(Y/n) scrunches her nose. “No. What does that have to do with this?”
“Well I think you should come to our next meeting.” Her smile is mischievous, (y/n) hates it.
———-
The next day Susan takes (y/n) to the seventh floor. She stops in the middle of the hall and passes back and forth in front of a stone wall. Soon a door appears in front of them and (y/n) smiles, amazed by the castle's secrets.
Susan is the first to walk in waving at a few people near the door. Once (y/n) follows through the room goes silent. Harry finally walks up to them, hand stretched out.
“Welcome to the army.” He says confidently. She looks to Susan who gives her an encouraging nod. She finally accepts Harry’s hand with a small yet nervous smile.
As she looks around the room she feels a pair of eyes on her. She turns to find George looking at her with a neutral face. She lets out a little screech and turns back to Susan.
“You didn’t tell me he was going to be here!” (Y/n) whispers with a panicked tone.
“Well if I did you wouldn’t have come.” She states simply before walking off to talk with one of the other girls.
“Alright everyone. I think we’ll get started.” Announces Harry. Everyone goes quiet and they quickly form a half-circle around him. She sees a tall man settle next to her in her peripheral. She can just make out a flash of red hair. Her heart starts beating at an unruly pace.
“Today’s focus is on stunning. Nigel and I are going to do a demonstration so watch closely.” Everyone moves to the sides of the room whispering excitedly.
(Y/n) claps her hand over her mouth as she watches Harry fly backwards after being stunned by Nigel. She lets out a relieved sigh when Harry sits back up.
“I’d like to see you do that.” Whispers George into her ear. She jumps a little as his hot breath on her neck sends a shiver down her spine.
She turns to look at him. She has no snarky answer. She just gapes at him in surprise.
“I’d like to see you stand up for yourself for once.” He adds. She huffs in shock.
“I-“ She starts but Harry cuts her off. “Who wants to go next?” He asks.
“(Y/n) and I will go.” Announces George. She freezes as everyone eyes them curiously.
“Maybe someone else would like to go before us.” She tries.
“Nonsense, go on (y/n).” Says Harry enthusiastically. “No one here will judge you.” He adds thinking that’s her concern.
It’s not that she didn’t want to defend herself, it’s just she felt sort of bad stunning someone. She wasn’t sure she had it in her to do it. She walks to one end of the room and George to the other. He stretches out his arm, wand at the ready. She looks at Susan with a pleading look. Susan gives her an impatient nod and (y/n) reluctantly lifts her wand.
Neither of them moves, the room is completely silent. Soon there are whispers in the crowd. George is looking at (y/n) with a challenging eye. She gulps, trying to convince herself to stun him. She thinks that maybe if she does nothing he’ll grow impatient and stun her. That way she wouldn’t have to do it and he wouldn’t get the satisfaction of getting what he really wants.
“Right, any second now. Go ahead.” Says Harry slowly.
Nothing happens. George slumps out of his stans and raises his arms in the air. “Oh c’mon (y/n) stun me!” He exclaims.
She looks at the crowd as they all stare back at her. She suddenly feels weak in the knees. She begins to sweat nervously and looks at Susan. She looks a little concerned, maybe thinking this wasn’t as good an idea as she first thought. She still gives her a weak encouraging smile and a little thumbs up. (Y/n) looks back at George who has his arms stretched out taunting her.
“Oh for once in your life be mean!” He shouts. The words echo in the room.
“I can be plenty mean!” She disputes. “Last week, I ate Susan’s cookie.” She adds, puffing her chest.
George tries to hold back his smile. She hears a couple giggles in the crowd.
“That is not mean.” His tone is adoring and she hates it.
“It was her favourite brand.” She adds trying to make it sound more horrific. She’s the only one in the room with a serious face. Everyone else is smiling enjoying the tense exchange between the two.
He clicks his tongue and shakes his head. “If it’s anything, it’s cute.” He says with a wink. There it is. There’s the final straw. She can feel her blood boil. Everyone holds their breath as they watch her face contort into an angry pout. George smiles wide thinking the pout is possibly the cutest thing he’s ever seen.
She lets out an angry grunt. “It is not cute! You wanna see cute? Watch this.” She flicks her wand and shouts: “Stupify!” The spell sends George across the room. Everyone exclaims as he hits the ground with a thud.
“Excellent! Really good (y/n)!” Exclaims Harry.
Across the room George is whooping. He runs over to her with arms wide open. His smile is contagious, she can’t stop hers from pulling at her cheeks. Laughs spill from her lips as he wraps her tightly into his arms. Fred helps George throw her over their shoulders. Everyone gathers around them and cheers. (Y/n) feels her cheeks go hot suddenly, very aware of George’s hand on her thigh keeping her in place. She looks at everyone’s happy smiles and she can't help but join in. She hates to admit it but George might have been right. Standing up for yourself can feel good.
———
It’s a Wednesday evening. Most people were already back in their common rooms. (Y/n) was walking back from the library, having finished another tutoring session with Zacharias Smith. The halls are practically deserted when she suddenly hears quiet sobs further away. She speeds her pace and turns the corner finally spotting a little boy crying quietly while holding his hand. Two older boys are kneeling next to him. Her breath hitches when she spots him. George hasn’t talked to her since their duel. She would sometimes catch his eye across the classroom or in the dining hall but this is the first time she’s run into him. George is rubbing circles on the boy's upper back as he whispers sweet comforting phrases to the crying boy. As she steps closer she recognizes the boy to be Michael. She has helped him countless times after he has gotten detention from Umbridge.
Looking at George now she questions how she once called him a horrible person. She sighs accepting she might have been too quick to judge. She steps between the Weasleys and kneels down at Micheal’s feet so they're at eye level. She looks through her big bag before pulling out some gauze and a small glass jar of healing salve. Micheal gives her his hand, remembering the drill. She quietly applies the salve and wraps his hand. She listens to George explain to Micheal how soon the pain will subside. She notices he never stops rubbing circles on the boy's back. There’s something reassuring about the movement and she’s not even the one receiving it.
Micheal takes a deep breath, recollecting himself. He looks between George and (y/n) before smiling mischievously.
“Thanks mom, dad.” He tips his head to each before getting up and walking to his dorm. George’s hand stays frozen in the air even if there’s no longer a back to rub. (Y/n) stops screwing the lid to her salve as she looks at the now empty seat. They both jump when Fred starts howling with laughter. His laughs echo down the hall as he doubles over himself, holding his aching stomach. He wipes at his eyes and sighs loudly.
“Good one kid.” He shouts though Michael is much too far to hear it. “Ah! That’s golden.” He adds before he walks off in the same direction as Micheal did before.
George and (y/n) remain frozen. (Y/n)’s face is pale and George's cheeks are tomato red. (Y/n) is the first to move, she finishes screwing on the lid and shoving it into her bag. She’s in a hurry to get out of this very awkward situation. She shoots a look at George who moved from the floor and onto the bench. He’s leaning back onto the wall with his arms crossed. He smirks when she meets his eyes.
“We would have some cute kids.” His tone is teasing but there’s still something soft and affectionate in the statement.
“Oh honestly George, get a grip.” She rolls her eyes and walks away quickly. It takes all her willpower to hold in her smile until her back is turned to George. He’s not wrong she thinks to herself.
——-
She knocks lightly on the dorm room door. She can hear George’s loud laugh on the other side. She hopes he won’t be mad at her for interrupting the fun. Lee opens the door and the smile on his face is quickly replaced by a look of surprise.
“(Y/n)?” He stuns. The laughter in the room stops abruptly. She hears shuffling and soon George is peaking his head over Lee’s shoulder.
Lee quickly moves out of the way and George looks at her with a concerned look.
“(Y/n)? What are you doing here? Is everything okay?” He asks looking around to make sure there is no one else listening.
“I’m sorry to bother you, I know you were having fun there.” She feels pretty stupid now that she’s actually standing in front of him. George shakes his head vigorously to tell her it’s no problem.
“I just-“ she runs a hand through her hair. “I sort of need someone who doesn’t need help with tutoring or homework or healing salve.” The offer is months old. They haven’t even talked in weeks. She never thought she’d actually take him up on it but she didn’t know who else to turn to.
His shoulders drop and a natural smile spreads across his face. “Well then I’m your guy.” He closes the door behind him and guides her down the stairs and into the common room. It’s late, most students are in bed. George asks the few left if they could give them some privacy and they all retreat to their rooms.
“What’s up?” He asks, shoving his hands into his pockets.
She sighs and walks over to the big red couch. She sits down and buries her head into her hands. “I- I’m so tired George.” Her voice is laced with despair. “There’s just so much to do and I’m trying, I really am but I just don't know if I have it in me.”
George sits next to her, so close that their knees touch. “What are all the things you need to do?” He asks softly.
“I have to run the potions club and make that banner for the Ancient Runes Club. I have to tutor Hannah and Seamus and Zacharias and so many other people. I have to make sure Lavender is okay and that Luna found her socks. I have to listen to Hermione and Ginny talk about their boy problems and then give them advice. I have to write back to my parents and help them with their problems. I have to help McGonagall with the rat problem because no one else wants to. Madame Pomfrey said I could intern with her but that means I have to spend ten hours a week in the hospital wing. I told professor Sprout I’d help her extract pus from Bubotuber. I promised Colin I would look out for Dennis and I haven't even seen him in weeks.” It all spills out. For the first time ever she is totally transparent about her problems. “And then I have to worry about my own studies and try and keep my grades up and there’s the stress of Dumbledore’s army, what if we get caught?” She’s panting by the end suddenly feeling much lighter.
“Well maybe you could say no to a couple people. I’m sure the Ancient Runes Club can wait for a sign, Mcgonagall can take care of the rats on her own. You can say no you know.” He places a hand on her thigh and looks deep into her eyes.
“But- I can’t George! I can't say no. Those people are counting on me. What if the clubs fall apart or Seamus’ grades drop or Luna never finds her socks.” Her face is panicked.
“Let me help you.” He says it so softly. She feels a dry lump in her throat. Her jaw suddenly hurts and she feels tears well up in her eyes.
“I don’t want your help George!” She jumps off the couch and onto her feet. George’s hand slips off her thigh and onto the couch. It looks limp and sad without her leg to hold it. “I don’t need you, I was doing perfectly fine before you came around and I’ll be fine without you moving forward.” There’s a pause. “ I didn’t come here for you to save the day.” There it is. She doesn’t want to appear weak. She thinks asking for help makes her weak.
George stands up, towering over her. “Fine. If that’s how you feel then I’ll leave. I will go for good and you won’t have to worry about me meddling in your life anymore. I just want you to know that I’m offering to help because I can see how hard this is for you and I think you deserve more than what you’ve granted yourself.” George steps forward closing the gap. “I think you deserve to be taken care of for a change.” They’re inches away from each other. His face suddenly turns soft as he looks into her tear-filled eyes.
There’s a silent pause. She looks into George’s eyes and she sees the honesty, the care, the love. George is there for her when no one else is. He’s right, she is having a hard time and he’s the one offering the help. No one else. All the other people she has sworn would help her, be there for her, aren’t there. But how could they have known? She never tells them how hard it is, always caring for others. She never asks for their help. It’s not that those people don’t care. She just never opens up to them. She never permits them to be anything else than people she could help. All she ever did was give and give. She never believed she should do anything else. George is the first person who wants her to take, not give. It finally clicks. Everything that George has been trying to make her see is crystal clear now.
A tear spills from down her cheek and she feels her knees go weak. She cups her hand over her mouth trying to hold in a sob. She takes a step back shaking her head in denial. George’s face remains soft but there’s concern in his eyes.
“Hey.” He tilts his head, maintaining eye contact as she tries to look away. “It’s okay.” He pulls her towards his chest and she welcomes it. She falls into his arms as more tears fall down her cheeks. “Let it out.” He says.
With that permission (y/n) cries. She cries like never before. Loud sobs slip from her lips as her body shakes in George’s arms. She cries about all the sad secrets people have confided in her. She cries for all the days she sacrificed for others. She cries for all the “I love that you never say no”. She cries for all the grades she sacrificed to keep others high. She lets out years of pent-up tears, of hurt.
He rubs small circles on her upper back and remains quiet. She was right, there relay is something reassuring about those little circles. She cries for an hour and George never moves, never speaks, never stops her.
Finally, she sniffles her last tear and steps out of George’s arms. He reluctantly lets her go but takes her hand in his. She pulls it away to wipe at her eyes.
“Thank you.” Her voice is so delicate she would be embarrassed if it weren’t George in front of her. She laughs suddenly and George looks shocked. She soon starts crying of laughter and George gapes unsure of what to do.
“Are you okay?” He asks confused.
“I just, I hate you.” She laughs again. George looks stunned. He takes a step away from her and opens his mouth to say something but she cuts him off.
“Or so I thought. You have bugged me every day for months yet there’s no one I want here more than you.” George takes a tentative step forward. The words seem to give him confidence. “As crazy as it sounds I’ve had some of the best times talking with you because I actually said what I wanted to say. You can handle me better than anyone else. You challenge me in a way that I absolutely hate but I know why you’re doing it. You’re helping me learn to take care of myself and that’s hard because it’s something I’ve never done before.” She stops for a moment. The look in her eyes changes. First, there’s shock as she realizes. Then there’s a soft and happy glow. “I think I’m falling in love with you George.” She gasps. It’s almost a whisper. She barely wants to admit it.
“Come here.” Is all he says. She doesn’t move. Her brows knit themselves as she searches his face for an explanation. She takes a deep breath. The step towards him feels like a trust fall. He gently pulls her closer by the waist. He presses his forehead to hers. (Y/n) pushes her nose to his, bringing their lips closer to one another. He repeats the movement.
They tease each other a couple more times before George whispers “Can I kiss you?” She nods slowly and whispers a yes. He tips his head so their lips connect. His soft lips send sparks down her spine. George wraps an arm up to her back and pulls her closer quickly deepening the kiss. She wraps her arms around his next and soon her hands tangle into his fiery red hair. It feels like rain after a dry summer, like the cold side of her pillow, like the warm fire after coming in from the cold, it feels like heaven. Nothing has ever felt more right than their lips pressed together and for once, she’s giving in to what she wants.
When George pulls away she finds herself chasing his lips. She pouts a little missing the kiss. George runs a hand over her hair and looks at her adoringly.
“I’m falling for you too (y/n)”

anyway here’s DSMP streamers based on how they’d fair with me in a fight
Tumblr media
Details as for why I decided on these ranks under readmore
link to tiermaker
Would beat the shit out of them
Tommy- what’s his lanky ass gonna do?? Stop me???
George- ‘oh but salty, he’s a recovering hypebeast!! He’s not the uwu baby everyone thinks he is’ I know and I am perfectly aware, but he’s not alpha enough to defend himself against these hands. Sure he’s a 🤪crackhead 🤪 but what’s that gonna do against me. He would simply raise his arms as a shield and say ‘ow :(‘ until he surrenders.
Jack manifold- he has it coming.
It’d be close but id win
Fundy- he’s lanky, but he has height on me. I could beat the shut out of his shins but he could definitely push me over and I simply would not get back up. id kick his legs.
Quackity- I almost put him in the first category. Almost. But I feel like he’d get a random spurt of energy and almost take me down
Hbomb- I just feel like I could take his ass down. He’d injure me for sure, but I could do it.
Antfrost- it’s not homophobic if I’m also part of the el gee bee tea community. I’m scared that red would beat me up but not that scared
Tubbo- the kids unhinged. He’d be pulling these weird ass attacks yelling about some random shit I don’t understand and eventually tire himself out so that I can take him down easily
Karl- I feel like he has good defences. But his shins are unprotected.
Fair fight
Dream- He has height on me so he could theoretically beat the everloving shit out of me but his feet are fucking massive (clown) and that’s what I target
Techno- the only thing stopping me from winning is his height, this man spends all his time farming potatoes I could clart him if he wasn’t a giant
Puffy- we are the same height.
Hannah- we have too much respect for the others eyeliner to do any real damage
It’d be close but they’d win
Sapnap- he’s polite. He’s a sweet little Texas man. But I do also believe him when he said he’d rock chats shit with the meanest uppercut if they ever tried to fight him. He’s been through a lot with chat. I believe him.
Connor- I was going to say I could beat him up, but looking that little face in the eyes made me feel something akin to fear. I don’t think he has the ability to absolutely beat the shit out of me. But he could win.
Ranboo- this kid moves like a cartoon character. 90% of the fight is just him bouncing around me not actually making any hits. I attack the shins (again). He utilises his gargantuan height and picks me up rendering me useless. I have lost the fight.
Charlie- unassuming, but ripped.
Alyssa- she’d be easy on me, get bored and then clart me. I believe in her
Would absolutely clart me
Wilbur- I’ve seen the vlogs. Man would not hesitate to tackle me just like he did Tommy. I have been murdered by Wilbur Soot.
Bad- can and will cut me, carries a gun on him at all times.
Skeppy- he’d just straight up beat the shit out of me idk what to tell u
Purpled- see above
Punz- Chad.
Philza- threatened to punt jack manifold into the sun. I believe him.
Could batter me but simply wouldn’t
Niki- this girl can be scary I’ve seen her talk to her chat about the way men treat her pop off queen you could absolutely batter anyone but only would hurt the people who wrong her and I would never do that to her
Sam- golden retriever, sweetheart. So sweet and wonderful. Could punt me if he wanted to but he’s too nice for that
Foolish- himbo: beefy, dumb and kind.
Eret- 6’3 +7 inch platforms, dangerous but it’s not practical it’s ✨ fashion ✨
Ponk- I wholeheartedly believe ponk could clart me but would absolutely hesitate because she’s very sweet and I love them hashtag lemon society
Simply would not fight in the first place
Callahan.

Tumblr media
Upon proposition, both you and Harry had agreed to teach what he was calling ‘Dumbledore’s Army’ a series of spells and techniques that were deprived of them since Umbridge had arrived. You were a little hesitant at first, and not because of Umbridge, god how you hated that woman. Your worries lay with the responsibility that you and Harry had if entering this agreement, you didn’t want to put anyone in danger.
Of course, you and Harry had become almost experts in the field of Defence Against the Dark Arts, you especially due to your close relationship with Lupin. Remus had taught you pretty much all you needed to know in the comfort of your own home, whereas Harry kind of had to pick it up considering the various dangerous circumstances he seemed to land himself in year after year.
You couldn’t disappoint Harry, not when he needed you, he was like family after all.
“Today me and Y/N are going to be demonstrating a typical duel” Harry announced to the rather sheepish looking crowd “and more importantly, how to win one” you chimed in successfully gaining a laugh from the room.
After bowing your heads, you and Harry began to take your places from one end of the room to another with each other.
“Ready?” Harry asked for confirmation; however, you couldn’t help but get distracted last minute. In the corner of your eye you noticed one of your best friends, Fred, flirting with Angelina Johnson.
You, Fred and George had been friends ever since you joined the Quidditch team in your first year, but recently you had felt differently towards Fred. Getting older gave you feelings you didn’t necessarily understand and on the most part Fred just seemed to annoy you these days – especially when he flaunted around girls.
“Actually Harry, change of plans” you began, causing him to lower his wand in a state of bewilderment “I think it’s best if we use a student with less knowledge for the demonstration, you know, for uh, a better example of the power they’ll be up against” you tried to justify your decision.
“Right, right, yeah of course!” Harry agreed, just as you knew he would, that boy was too nice for his own good sometimes “who did you have in mind?”
“Fred” you said without hesitation or a second thought, getting his attention instantly.
Fred looked up and gave you an overly confident smile which just boiled your blood further “love to” was his only reply.
You smiled back sarcastically, gritting your teeth in the process.
Beginning to take your place once more, Harry was replaced by a much taller, attractive Fred. He proceeded to roll his sleeves, giving you a glimpse at the veins running throughout his arms.
Pay attention
“Ready Fred?” Harry initiated “Ready to win? Sure am mate” Fred replied, gaining a giggle from a lot of the girls, you just rolled your eyes.
“Bite me, Weasley” you replied, a little more frustrated than you were five minutes ago, causing Fred to smirk.
Harry nodded and you and Fred proceeded to walk towards each other for the initial bow. As you both reached the middle, Fred bent down slightly more so you could hear him.
“You’re so sexy when you’re mad” he said, causing you to instantly blush. You knew he was a flirty guy, but you didn’t think he had ever said anything as flirty as that to you before.
Turning around to walk to the end of the room gave you what felt like forever to think about what had just happened, getting slightly distracted from the matter.
“Wands to the ready” Harry announced, arm still mid-air.
You were now directly facing Fred and looking him in the eye seemed a little awkward considering your flustered state. In attempts to compose yourself you looked to the crowd gathered either side of you and caught glimpse of Angelina smiling at Fred.
Instantly you were reminded of your frustration which only engaged you in a deep focus against Fred, locking eyes with him confidently.
Harry swiftly dropped his arm, indicating the beginning of the duel.
“Aguamenti!” you pronounced clearly with a flick of your wand before Fred was even able to utter a single letter.
Suddenly Fred was flung to the back wall through the jet-like force of the water that hit him.
Fred lay on the floor, drenched from head to toe gaining a roaring laugh from those watching – especially George and Ron.
You smirked at Fred, heavily breathing at not just the thrill of winning the duel but the sight of Fred, clothes wet and him distressed.
What was wrong with you.
“Hmm, yeah, not really the spell I had in mind but good job Y/N” Harry commented as Ginny began to help Fred up, still laughing in his face.
“Yeah well, I thought I’d leave the rest up to you” you replied in a sort agitated tone which left a puzzled look on Harry’s face.
“Got to go Harry, you’ll be alright without me today won’t you?” you quietly spoke to him, who just nodded, completely understanding.
As you began walking towards the exit you were stopped in your tracks upon hearing a voice that had started to infuriate you a little too much recently.
“Y/N wait” you heard him get closer “I’ll come with you, gotta get changed out of these bloody wet clothes anyway” he explained, giving a genuine smile.
“great” you mumbled giving another sarcastic smile.
On the way to the common room you seemed to forget all about the incident that had wound you up, it was strange that Fred had the ability to make you do that – forget about your worries. Joking and laughing all the way up made you feel like a kid again, first year meeting the twins.
That was until you reached the common room, and Fred proceeded to take off his jumper of course. You were sitting in Fred’s empty dorm room, on his bed watching him find dry uniform to change into. The moment had never seemed weird until now – until you couldn’t stop staring at his bare chest through the now transparent shirt that clung to him.
You could feel your heart rate increase as you started to heavily breathe once more, transfixed on Fred. An overwhelming sensation began to consume your stomach.
Fred was rambling on about the upcoming Quidditch game, but you couldn’t help yourself any longer. You knew exactly what had been troubling you these past couple of months with Fred and you were about to prove it.
You stood up, growing closer to Fred who had his back turned to you as he still searched for dry clothes crouched over his trunk.
“Fred” you simply said, gaining his attention.
He turned to face you slowly standing, a little worried about what you were about to say from your posture and breathing.
“yeah?”
“Shut up” you lifted your heels to reach Fred, locking your fingers between his auburn hair and crashing your lips against his.
Instantly he did as told, feeding both yours and his own hunger by kissing you passionately back. Fred wrapped his long arms around your waist and pulled you closer into him, allowing the water on his shirt to almost turn into steam.
The kiss was hard but soft at the same time, not allowing the opportunity for a breath between you. Fred’s hands suddenly reached further down your waist as he swiftly lifted you, holding you in his arms for a moment before placing you on his cabinet.
Having the freedom of his arms back he returned the favour of entangling his fingers between your hair, slightly tugging on it as his kiss grew more desperate, sending shivers down your spine.
Fred’s lips slowly moved away from your own as he lifted the hair between his fingers, trailing kisses from your jawline down to your neck, causing you to let out soft moans.
As he did you frantically began unbuttoning his shirt, peeling it from his still damp body. Each kiss he placed on you made the butterflies in your stomach flutter a little harder, pulling at his hair signalling for him to continue.
Fred assisted you in taking the rest of his shirt of, as he started to take your tie off all the while still kissing your neck which sent you crazy. You rolled your head back at the tingling sensation of Fred’s sucking of your neck paired with his warm breath growling in your ear.
“I lied earlier” Fred gave a breathily whisper in your ear “You’re so sexy all the time” he continued, giving you an intense feeling.
You fiercely grabbed Fred’s face once more continuing to impulsively engage in your heavy make-out session.
Before you knew it your shirt was being unbuttoned, revealing nothing but your bra and bare skin exposed… but you didn’t mind one bit, in fact it felt so right you couldn’t believe it had took this long for you and Fred to be half naked together.
“Nice to see you two getting along again” you jumped out of your skin, quickly attempting to cover whatever part of you was exposed as you looked up to see a very casual George sending a wink your way.
“Christ George!” you yelled which just caused him to burst out laughing “Well then! Turn around!” you exclaimed as Fred picked up your shirt for you to start putting back on.
“Don’t worry, I’m leaving… detention with Umbridge, have fun you two” George said giving you both another wink.
Your state of shock was eased by Fred who began to giggle, resting his forehead on yours.
“Seriously Y/N… you don’t understand how long I’ve wanted that to happen” Fred confessed, butterflies rising once again in your stomach.
“Me too” you grinned, pulling his head down for another kiss.

"fred it's just- she's my best friend. she's your age. and she's pretty. you. cant. date. her." fred just looked at him in disbelief "ronald, i don't know what you're talking about. i won't fall in love with your friend ok. she's just staying for the summer- i'll probably barely see her" ron didn't seem to convinced by this " im ashamed that you think so little of me, plus i'm pretty sure i've seen her around. we do share a lecture" he knew for a fact. he knew because sometimes he found himself absentmindedly staring at her in admiration. there was no escaping it though, ron- and everyone else- knew the inevitable, fred was gonna fall for his best friend.
the day she came to the burrow made that extremely clear. "freddie, you are so stupid" george couldn't stop laughing at his twin "ron is gonna kill you. what about 'you can't date her' did you not grasp?" fred just playfully glared at him "ok... he said she was pretty- he didn't tell me how pretty!" his brother lightly patted his shoulder whilst sighing softly "you are a hopeless romantic, and besides i thought you already knew her" fred shook his head subtly "no. she sits at the front of the hall and i sit at the back. i've seen her from afar, there is a clear distinction."
but in fred's defence- y/n wasn't doing much better. although, luckily she didn't have the 'you can't date him' talk, she just knew she shouldn't. would it affect her and ron's friendship? probably not. but he had a weird thing about his friends dating his siblings- when harry started dating ginny, she found it hilarious. obviously he's over it now, but it did take a miniature toll. harry hung out with them less and less, between classes for uni and going through the 'honeymoon phase' of his and ginny's relationship, he barely spent time with them. of course, he does now. but y/n couldn't get her head around it, everyone was like that- no matter who they where in a relationship.
but she didn't ever plan on risking their freindship, but then she met fred.
"we're here!" ron yelled from the front door, to notify his siblings that they were about to meet his friend he talks so fondly of. "oh move out of the way ron, let me meet her!" his mother was so lovely. "ah you're gorgeous! come here, come here" and mrs weasley embraced her in a hug, some would consider her a little 'overly friendly' but y/n didn't mind. it was nice to be considered a part of the family even if you only know one or two of her children. "and hermione! lovely of you to come again, i can't believe you're still putting up with my ron. he's a piece of work" that made everyone chuckle, this women didn't have much of a filter, and it was great. "well, y/n, you already know ginny, you might have met fred once or twice, thats george, thats bill and his wife fleur. charlie's still away on military duty, and percey's still in london working for the law firm." she said her hello's to everyone, they were all very nice. and as much as she loved everyone, she was happy to finally get a bit of peace outside whilst reading with hermione and fleur whilst everyone was helping with dinner "i honestly don't mind helping if you need it, there are a lot of us to cook for-" "dont be silly y/n i'm not letting one of our guests cook. i see you have a couple of books, go read and relax, you had a long journey. my little delinquents will help me" so she gave up trying to help, it was no use.
"so y/n" fleur started, but she didn't mind, the two got on pretty well, and had actually met a couple of times already, they went to the same high school periodically, fleur was an exchange student and the two shared a few classes. "any boyfriends? girlfriends? any romance at all" this caused the girl to chuckle. "no. not for me. on top of school, and having a clingy friendship group, i don't have much time to meet anyone and date" fleur looked both sad and excited "well maybe you could date fred? i hear he i hopelessly single... and you're staying hear all summer. plenty of time to get to know him" yep. she was excited. "i think ron would have a heart attack" y/n didn't hate the idea, but she was very much the type of person to not force things. it wouldn't feel right to get close to him with the only intention to be to fill the void that wasn't actually all that eager to be filled.
but after a few weeks her and fred began to really get along. "dude things are going terribly with the whole 'don't fall for y/n'! i just can't stop thinking about her. and then when i finally do, she's right there!" george huffed a laugh "really freddie? i thought things were going great" "you know, sarcasm is the lowest form of wit" the two joked with eachother a little more "she's just one girl. i'm sure there'll be more that you like just as much as her" fred shook his head "i'm not really one for change. i like her, and the only thing holding me back is a little dick who is way too protective and possessive of his beautiful friends." his brother rolled his eyes "just talk to him! everyone can see how you look at her and it's painful! just. talk. to. him."
this wasn't going to work. he knew it was a long shot, but anything is worth a try. "ron, i get your whole 'i don't want my friends hurt' thing, but i don't wanna hurt her ok. she's just- i've gotten to know her, and i do really like her-" "stop. just stop. i can't tell either of you who you can and can't date. but if you really like her, i guess you're not the worst person to ever like her"
7 weeks into her stay, she knew she liked him. there was no denying they grew close, nearly always being in a room with each other, nearly always touching each other in some way: holding hands without even realising, leaning on the other when they're standing together, subtle yet obvious things like that. subtle to them. obvious to everyone else around. "just talk to her!! god this is painful, and it's about time you start telling her the many, i repeat many compliments and all romantic shit you spew to me, because you are insufferable right now" fred rolled his eyes playfully "i honestly can't georgie. why would i risk it. she's too perfect to let slip" "just tell her! it cant be that hard. do you really wanna go back to how things were before you too properly got to talking? because if you don't tell her it increases that possibility." this got the other boy's attention "you really think things could go back? becasue i don't think i could handle a silent nod whilst passing her to get to my seat at the beginning of a lecture. or a little small cute giggle when i come over to irritate ronald. i've gotten to know her, and i know that i like her. i don't want to jeopardise that. i can't. i just can't." george chuckled at his helpless brother "sounds like you can't do a lot of things freddie. you know what i say? go for it! what do you have to lose?" "an incredibly awesome friendship with a very attractive girl" and then their conversation got cut off when a certain someone walked into the room "hey" and the two fell practically silent "yo y/n" george was the first to break the somewhat silence that awkwardly enveloped the room "what you up to?" he got up "leaving" she chuckled at the younger twin "smooth." as she took her place next to the remaining brother, the awkwardly laced tension instantly washed out of the room as she sat next to him. it was like, the affect she had on him- any anxiety he had left, she was like a beacon of peace, of a calming sound to capsize the worry that flooded his mind.
a week after his conversation with george, he decided enough was enough. "ok im going to do it" and honestly, y/n was thinking the exact same "ginny, i will do it. im gonna tell him" but were they?
the two we alone, the rest of the household were out at the shops. "what do you wanna do?" she could think of one thing "are you gonna hate me forever if i do this?" he was a little confused "do what?"
she kissed him. yet another way for them to always be touching. yet another moment of true bliss- when everything around them falls silent, the world pauses from spinning, and they finally feel as though they can breath, the spark took the opportunity to turn into a flame. "well if that's what you wanna do... i can work with it" they both chuckled "i can to- and if i'm being completely honest, i'd like to do it a lot more" "at least we're in the same boat"
and finally after 8 long weeks they started dating. they never told anyone, and they didn't have to. stolen kisses - stolen whispers - stolen glances. any chance they could get, they'd take it.
when they went back to college, not much changed. they took any chance they could get to see each other, whilst y/n did all she could to maintain her normal friendship with ron "y/n you've seen him oce already this week! come one, we need to have a movie marathon. it's super important" she rolled her eyes "ron it's saturday. and i've only seen my boyfriend once this week. be a normal 18 year old would you? be horny- fuck your girlfriend! love you bye"
let's just say her methods were odd- but affective. things were going well, she was happy. turns out she didn't regret that summer at the burrow. none of them did. she was the newest addition to their family, and they all loved her, none quite as much as a certain fred weasley.

Tumblr media
“Looks like we’re partners,” George said, sliding into the seat next to yours and grinning. He felt a little nervous given your turbulent history, but it seemed that you were about to surprise him, as you always managed to.
“Just my luck,” you retorted, your voice lacking its usual amount of bite despite your scowl.
He smirked at your tone, surprised at much he enjoyed your new-found acquaintanceship.
“Can’t believe you got paired up with that loser, Weasley,” Malfoy said to you from behind, leaning over his desk so his annoyingly pompous voice carried. “Which one are you again?”
Before George could open his mouth and put the little git in his place, he was beaten to the punch.
“And why are you talking to me, Malfoy?” you said slowly, not even looking at him as you opened your textbook. You smiled slightly at his angry muttering and the scrape of his chair on the floor.
When you looked at George, only to see him making smug faces at Malfoy before turning to you and smirking, you rolled your eyes, still finding his ability to rile your feathers disturbingly uncanny.
“You can do the uses-“
“Why?” he said loudly, returning your scowl as you glared at him.
“Because I told you to.”
“And so, what? I should just do it?”
“Yes.”
“Well, in that case, your highness.”
You shot him a dark look and he opened his mouth to continue your bickering when a dark figure loomed behind you.
“Mr Weasley, Ms Y/L/N.” Snape’s voice cut through the silence of the room. “Do you find squabbling like children in my class to be a good use of your time?”
Following Snape’s little scolding, you tried desperately to avoid his wrath for the rest of the lesson. This was a goal that proved harder than initially anticipated given the nature of the boy sitting next to you. Halfway through the lesson, you found yourself biting your nails, trying to figure out the purpose of adding Eye of Newt when George caught your eye. He winked and you glowered in return, but he could see the upward curve of your lips and considered himself once again pleasantly surprised.
He could barely contain his laughter, though, when around ten minutes later you stuck your tongue out at him when you caught him looking around the room for a distraction. It was strange, you though, to be so light-hearted with him; not bad though, not at all.
He snickered until he felt Snape’s eyes on him and immediately ducked his head, not eager to receive another detention after the last Thursday night he spent polishing trophies. The idea of George getting in trouble made you smirk, though, and you looked over to tease him only to see Snape’s sour expression.
Your eyes widened as you quickly looked down again and pursed your lips tightly. You both watched him walk in front of your desk slowly, gliding past you, the weight of his gaze heavy on your shoulders. George snorted and you kicked him under the table, finding it almost impossible to contain your own laughter with Snape watching you so closely.
The man himself, like a dark shadow, loomed over your bench and reluctantly, you both looked up. Snape’s eyes flickered from yours to George’s slowly, suspiciously. As you both waited silently for the inevitable punishment, you couldn’t help your amusement brewing and you cursed George and his stupidity for always somehow making you laugh.
“Class…” Snape drawled, his dark gaze never leaving your faces. “Dismissed.”
You concealed your laughter until you got outside the room where you immediately burst into giggles. You shoved George lamely with your hand, shaking your head.
“You are the worst!” you insisted, huffing as he grinned. You scoffed, biting your lip.
Both you and George stared at each other for a moment, your combined breathing the only sound in the hallway as your laughter died down. The air turned thick rather quickly and wading through the awkward silence, you remembered that you really ought to get to your next class. You made to leave, not wanting to extend the odd tension for any longer when George stopped you, his hand on your arm. You stiffened under his touch and he lifted his palm quicker than you’d thought possible. Your insides churned.
“Defence Against the Dark Arts, right?” he said, his eyebrows raised, an oddly guarded look in his eye.
You narrowed your eyes suspiciously.
“…Yes.”
“Oh, brilliant,” he said, throwing his arm over your shoulder and ushering you in the right direction. “We can walk there together.”
You grunted and pushed him off indelicately, shooting him a deadpan look when he grinned. You urged yourself to be normal - whatever that was.
“Joyous,” you said so dryly he barked a loud laugh, a laugh that made you forget how weird you’d felt only minutes before. You were glad to return to more familiar territory.
“Don’t pretend you don’t like me,” he said glibly, hoping that you couldn’t tell how unsure he was about the idea. Why did he even care if you liked him? He barely even liked you a week ago. You rolled your eyes again and he swallowed against the tightness of his throat.
“I assure you, there’s no pretence involved whatsoever.”
Either he didn’t have a witty response or just chose to ignore you, but he only hummed as you both wandered to the third floor.
Professor Lupin, you discovered quickly, was thankfully nothing like Professors Quirrell or Lockhart; that was in the sense that he actually seemed somewhat competent at his job. You were quite enjoying the lesson until he introduced the boggart, something that you definitely did not want to face, especially not in a room full of people that you didn’t know, didn’t like and George, who you were unsure about where he sat in that particular Venn diagram. With a poorly concealed rush, you joined the back of the queue that curled around the room as Fred and George, ever the showmen joined the front.
You expected George’s worst fear to be something stupid; something like clowns or people not laughing at his dumb jokes. What you did not expect was to see the boggart turn into George himself; how you could tell the difference between him and Fred was not something you dared to question. The boggart was holding a white rose and stood there in a suit, the type you’d never believe that George would ever wear, and as he faced it, he gulped. You frowned, something about the whole thing piquing your interest. Maybe George Weasley wasn’t everything you thought he was.
“Riddikulus!” he shouted, watching with wide eyes as the boggart’s white rose crumbled into dozens of pieces, each hitting the ground with a sharp thud. Its face morphed into Filch’s and suddenly the whole classroom was alive with laughter at the sight of Filch attempting to find footing on a floor of marbles. Finding you across the class, pleased to see a faint smirk on your lips, George winked. You scoffed, shaking your head. Maybe George Weasley was exactly what you thought he was.
“Pretty impressive, eh?” he said cockily as he walked over. The rest of the class shrieked in laughter as another fear turned into something hilarious, but you weren’t paying attention.
“You’re an imbecile.”
“Oh, is that right?”
“Most definitely.”
“I dare you to do something better,” he said, his competitive streak showing. He watched, though, with intrigue, as your face turned pale and your expression uncomfortable.
“I don’t have to prove anything to you,” you snapped, perhaps too harshly. He glowered, dozens of cruel retorts collecting on his tongue before he stopped, noticing the way your fingers pulled nervously at your sleeve and your eyes darted around the room.
For the first time since knowing you, George realised that you were actually scared of something and despite how much he loved to irritate you, your fearful expression didn’t sit well with him at all.
“Did you hear that Neville turned his into Snape wearing his grandma’s clothes?” he said, his stare far too obvious for his tone to be so casual. He tried, though, and you almost appreciated his attempt to be subtle as he avoided mentioning your conversational hand grenade. He watched confusion, and then recognition, flash over your features.
“I can’t believe Longbottom’s boggart was Snape,” you scoffed, crossing your arms tightly. George frowned, opening his mouth to defend him. Whilst he and Neville weren’t the best of friends, George wasn’t a fan of people teasing him, especially Slytherins. From all he knew about you, he could only expect mockery to tumble lazily from your lips.
“Neville’s-“
“How psychotic do you have to be for a kid to fear you like that?”
George’s mouth dried up a little and for the first time in a long time, he was rendered speechless. His eyes trailed over your scowling face.
“I’ll say,” he said softly, watching you closely to gauge your reaction. “I figured you’d like Snape; being a Slytherin and all.”
You made a face. “He’s a bully. Fantastic wizard, mind, but an awful person.”
George mused on your words for a moment. He didn’t really know what to say, but he was saved by the point of Fred’s wand and the sight of a younger, screaming Ron Weasley legging it away from a gigantic spider. You exhaled out of your nose as Fred came over, clapping his brother on the shoulder.
“That was brilliant, mate,” George said to his brother, grinning like a Cheshire cat.
“What did you think Y/N?” Fred asked, flicking his hair over his shoulder. “Am I a comedic genius or what?”
“I think I’ll have to go with ‘or what’ on that one,” you hummed, smiling at their stupidly dramatic reactions.
Much to your surprise, it wasn’t just the twins that you’d come to tolerate.  As you walked over to the Gryffindor table, your fingers drumming against your leg, you thought about how, against all odds, you’d developed a very unexpected friendship with Hermione Granger. Hours of polite co-existing at the library managed to do that to a person.
“Oi, Granger,” you said, stopping behind Ron, ignoring the way his face soured when he saw you. “Do you have that book I leant you on muggle war history?”
“Oh,” she exclaimed, throwing her hand to her chest before she rifled through her bag and handed over a thick hardback. “Yes, here, thank you.”
You nodded at her before turning to walk away, catching Harry’s eye in the process. You circled back, an amused smirk working its way onto your lips.
“Saw you flying that hippogriff earlier, Potter. Must say, I’m quite impressed. Especially after what it did to Malfoy’s arm.”
“Uh,” he said, not quite sure where to look. “Thanks, Y/N.”
“Ooh,” George said, sitting down next to Harry as Fred sat opposite him.
“Has someone got a crush?” Fred asked, goading you with his teasing tone.
“Someone’s about to get crushed,” you replied happily, your overly cheerful voice sending the twins into hysterics.
You pursed your lips, but the amused smile on your face didn’t escape Hermione’s keen eye.
“Excited for quidditch tomorrow then, Y/N?” George said with a cocky grin. “We’re gonna absolutely decimate the Hufflepuffs.”
“Like that’s hard,” Fred added, nodding his head.
“As much as I would love to see you two do absolutely nothing for a few hours,” you smirked as their expressions wilted. “I have no interest in torturing myself watching a game I can’t play.”
“Why can’t you play?” Harry asked, a confused frown knitting his brows together.
“Flint banned me for three matches; says it’ll ‘help remind me where my loyalties should lie’. Smug bastard.”
You rolled your eyes, remembering the dumb look on his face and the haughtiness of his tone.
“What? He’s not letting you play because of that enchanted bludger last year? But you were only helping Harry!” Hermione said, her voice indignant.
“I think that’s the issue, Hermione,” Harry said almost guiltily.
“Well, that’s hardly fair, is it?” Ron said, the words tumbling from his mouth before he could stop them. He winced as he prepared himself for your reaction, quite surprised really when you only shrugged and kissed your teeth.
“Not to worry, he’ll put me back in after the Ravenclaw match,” you insisted, the clock on the wall catching your eye. “I’m irreplaceable.”
You winked at Ron as you walked backwards, finding it best not to be late for Snape’s study session given your recent antics with George. Your laughter followed you out the hall as you left Ron blushing bright pink in your wake.
There was a large possibility that you might have lied. Or perhaps you just hadn’t made up your mind yet. It really didn’t matter though because Potter sure was lucky that you’d dragged yourself to see the match in the end. You obviously hadn’t anticipated him falling so hard so fast, but given that you’d been lurking by the players’ entrance to the pitch to get the best view of the game, you were by far the first to reach him when he hit the ground with a resounding thud.
You perched on the bed opposite him, sitting on the railing and hoping that Madam Pomfrey was too occupied with the injured Hufflepuffs to scold you.
“He looks a bit peaky,” Ron said, leaning over Harry who, admittedly, did look rather pale. “Doesn’t he?”
You cursed yourself for being so worried about Harry Potter, of all people, but despite your best intentions, you had a soft spot for the kid and you reasoned that anybody falling out of the sky would’ve earnt exactly the same response.
“Peaky?” George scoffed, looking at his little brother.
“I’d expect,” Fred snorted.
“He fell over a hundred feet.”
“Yeah, Ron. Let’s walk you off the Astronomy Tower.”
“See what you look like.”
You rolled your eyes. They really were idiots.
“Probably a darn sight better than he usually does,” Harry said, his voice croaky. You snorted, leaning forward to get a better look at Hogwarts’ resident skydiver. George glanced at you, grinning at the noise you’d made as he moved to sit by Harry.
“You gave us a right good scare there, mate,” he said, shaking his head. Despite your oath to never do so, you had to agree with him. Harry’s eyes flicked from George to the twigs that were left of his broomstick nestled in Ron’s arms, and then finally to you.
“What are you doing here?” he asked, frowning.
You chuckled as you stood up and made towards the bed, walking past Longbottom, who edged away away from you nervously.
“Just checking you’re still alive, Potter,” you said lazily, catching George’s eye as you turned to leave.
“She helped bring you in,” he said, looking at you for a moment before bringing his attention back to Harry.
“Seems like she’s your guardian angel on that quidditch pitch,” Fred joked, his laughter echoing down the corridor as you took a leisurely stroll back to the dungeon.
You didn’t see Fred or George for a while after that which was worrying, to say the least; if not only because that meant that they were planning something. You managed to muster a smile for Harry in the hallway one time, figuring he needed it with all the rumours going around about Sirius Black being his godfather. It probably came out like more of a grimace, you mused.
It felt normal, though, to return to your life before your truce with George Weasley; back to your normal friends and normal problems that didn’t involve teenagers falling from the sky. Disappointingly, with your friends busy revising for the upcoming Transfiguration test, a test you knew that you’d ace, you almost convinced yourself to ditch Hogsmeade for the day. However, something about the fresh snow on the ground or the idea of Christmas just around the corner swayed you and you found yourself huddled in your coat, rushing through the halls of Hogwarts.
The last people you expected (or wanted) to see were Fred and George, walking through the quad with matching woolly hats and coats. You debated it for a moment. You could just ignore them, but no doubt they’d notice you shadowing them at some point. And you were friends now, right?
The thought struck you with less distaste than you imagined it would and it seemed, at that point, that your mind was made up.
“Aren’t you two supposed to be at Hogsmeade?” you shouted, quirking an eyebrow at them as they turned around, waiting for you to catch up.
“Couldn’t we ask you the same thing?” George said, grinning cheekily.
“I was just leaving, actually.”
“Oh, splendid,” Fred said, his tone mocking. “We absolutely have to go together, then.”
“If we must,” you said, the perfect picture of resignation.
“You know you love us, Y/N,” George said, elbowing you in the ribs.
“I’ll pretend that’s true for your own sake.”
“You see that, George?” Fred asked, pointing at his brother as you walked between them. “And they say Slytherin’s aren’t kind.”
You couldn’t help the smile that lifted your cheeks.
It was unfortunate, really, because you couldn’t shake that smile for the rest of the day. Against your better judgement, you joined the twins in the Three Broomsticks, laughing and joking over pints of butterbeer. If anybody asked, the whole experience was deplorable, but in reality, you were actually enjoying yourself. So much so that you didn’t even notice the stares you were getting from across the pub.
“Can you believe that?” Seamus asked, jerking a thumb at you. “Did you ever think the bloody Weasley twins would be friends with a Slytherin?”
Dean shook his head, snickering into his glass. “No chance, mate.”

Some Quotes
I re read the Harry Potter books and here are some quotes I felt I wanted to remember
Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone
There are some things you can’t share without ending up liking each other, and knocking out a twelve-foot mountain troll is one of them. Page 192
‘And you’re not sitting with the Prefects today, either,’ said George. ‘Christmas is a time for family.’ Page 218
(Dumbledore) It does not do to dwell on dreams and forget to live, remember that. Page 230
(Neville) ‘I’m worth twelve of you, Malfoy,’ he stammered. Page 240
(Hermione) ‘Flitwick told me in secret that I got a hundred and twelve percent on his exam. They’re not throwing me out after that.’ Page 291
(Hermione) ‘Books! And cleverness! There are more important things - friendship and bravery.’ Page 308
(Dumbledore) ‘It takes a great deal of bravery to stand up to our enemies, but just as much to stand up to our friends.’ Page 329
Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets
In the end, he chose the same new subjects as Ron, feeling that if he was rubbish at them, at least he’d have someone friendly to help him. Page 267
‘Because that’s what Hermione does,’ says Ron, shrugging. ‘When in doubt, go to the library.’ Page 269
(Dumbledore) It is out choices, Harry, that show what we truly are, for more than our abilities. Page 352
Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban
(Hermione) ‘Poor Crookshanks, that witch said he’d been in there for ages: no one wanted him.’ Page 64
‘We - shall I make a cup of tea?’ said Ron. Harry stared at him.   ‘It’s what my mum does whenever someone’s upset,’ Ron muttered, shrugging. Page 232
Even without Divination, she was taking more subjects than anybody else. Page 319
Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire
Yes, that would be Hermione’s advice: go straight to the Headmaster of Hogwarts, and in the meantime, consult the book. Page 18
Hermione, who had turned rather pink again, seemed to be trying not to look too pleased with herself. Page 196
But Harry didn’t care, he wouldn’t have cared if Karkaroff had given him a zero; Ron’s indignation on his behalf was worth about a hundred points to him. He didn’t tell Ron this, of course, but his heart felt lighter than air as he turned to leave the enclosure. Page 304
He was not going to die kneeling at Voldemort’s feet...he was going to die upright like his father, and he was going to die trying to defend himself, even if no defence was possible... Page 558
(Dumbledore) ‘Remember, if the time should come when you have to make a choice between what is right, and what is easy, remember what happened to a boy who was good, and kind, and brave, because he strayed across the path of Lord Voldemort. Remember Cedric Diggory.’ Page 608
As Hagrid had said, what would come, would come...and he would have to meet it when it did. Page 617
Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix
‘Bill doesn’t like him either, said Ginny, as though that settled the matter. Page 64
‘Yeah, size is no guarantee of power,’ said George. ‘Look at Ginny.’ Page 92
‘The witch spoke in a fluttery, girlish, high-pitched voice that took harry aback; he had been expecting a croak. Page 135
‘Well, congratulations,’ said Moody, still glaring at Ron with his normal eye, ‘authority figures always attract trouble, but I suppose Dumbledore thinks you can withstand most major jinxes or he wouldn’t have appointed you...’ Page 156
Harry’s mood suddenly lifted. His father had not been a prefect either. Page 157
Seeing Hagrid again was one of the things he’d been looking forward to most. Page 181
Harry could not remember Hermione ever neglecting to read when instructed to, or indeed resisting the temptation to open any book that came under her nose. Page 223
Hermione drew herself up to her full height; her eyes were narrowed and her bushy hair seemed to crackle with electricity. Page 236
‘Wow, I wonder what it’d be like to have a difficult life?’ said Harry sarcastically. Page 242
Who cared about a stupid flying horse; Cho thought he had been really brave. For a moment, he considered accidentally-on-purpose showing her his cut hand as he helped her tie her parcel on to the owl... Page 263
She (Hermione) looked up at Ron and her frostiness seemed to melt. Page 272
(Luna) ‘Just because you’re so narrow-minded you need to have everything shoved under your nose before you-’ Page 319
‘Haven’t e got a counter-jinx or this?’ Fudge asked Umbridge impatiently, gesturing at Marietta’s face. ‘So she can speak freely?’  ‘I have not yet managed to find one,’ Umbridge admitted grudgingly, and Harry felt a surge of pride in Hermione’s jinxing ability. Page 566
‘Well usually when a person shakes their head,’ said McGonagall coldly, ‘ they mean “no”. So unless Miss Edgecombe is using a form of sign-language as yet unknown to humans -’ Page 569
Harry struggled around to see who was half strangling him and saw Professor McGonagall crouched beside him; she had forced both him and Marietta out of harms way. Page 573
(Dumbledore) ‘On the contrary...the fact that you can feel pain like this is your greatest strength.’ Page 758
Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince
(Snape) ‘You think he is mistaken? Or that I have somehow hoodwinked him? Fooled the Dark Lord, the greatest wizard, the most accomplished Legilimens the world has ever seen?’ Page 23
‘I enjoyed the meetings, too,’ said Luna serenely. ‘It was like having friends.’ Page 115
...and watched Pansy stroke the sleek blond hair off Malfoy’s forehead, smirking as she did so, as though anyone would have loved to have been in her place. Page 125
It was a mark of the strength of their friendship that Ron did not laugh. Page 141
‘Humph,’ snorted Professor McGonagall. ‘It’s high time your (Neville’s) grandmother learned to be proud of the grandson she’s got, rather than the one she thinks she ought to have - particularly after what happened at the Ministry.’ Page 145
He did not usually lie in bed reading his textbooks; that sort of behaviour, as Ron rightly said, was indecent in anybody except Hermione, who was simply weird that way. Page 198
On the other hand, the Prince had proved a much more effective teacher than Snape so far. Page 199
‘I like really good Quidditch players,’ Hermione corrected her, still smiling. Page 260
She (Hermione) looked too fierce to argue with at that moment, so Harry dropped the subject of Ron and recounted all that he had overheard between Malfoy and Snape. Page 294
(Slughorn) ‘Had a house-elf taste every bottle after what happened to your poor friend Rupert.’ Page 403
It was important, Dumbledore said, to fight, and fight again, and keep fighting, for only then could evil be kept at bay, though never quite eradicated. Page 536
Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows
(Yaxley) ‘He always did himself well, Lucius. Peacocks...’ Page 2
‘This isn’t your average book,’ said Ron. ‘It’s pure gold: Twelve Fail-Safe Ways to Charm Witches... You’d be surprised, it’s not all about wandwork, either.’ Page 90
Kreacher’s thin arms trembled with the weight of the pan, still held aloft. ‘Perhaps just one more, Master Harry, for luck?’ Page 178
The empty words could not disguise the fact that his parents’ mouldering remains lay beneath snow and stone, indifferent and unknowing. Page 267
(Hermione) ‘Imagine losing fingernails, Harry! That really puts our sufferings into perspective, doesn’t it?’ Page 312
(Hermione) I mean, you could claim that anything’s real if the only basis for believing in it is that nobody’s proved it doesn’t exist!’ Page 335
The three of them spoke at the same time; Hermione said, ‘the Clock,’ Ron said, ‘the wand,’ and Harry said, ‘the stone.’ Page 337
Luna had decorated her bedroom ceiling with five beautiful painted faces: Harry, Ron, Hermione, Ginny and Neville. They were not moving as the portraits of Hogwarts moved, but there was a certain magic about them all the same: Harry thought they breathed. What appeared to be fine golden chains wove around the pictures, linking them together, but after examining them for a minute or so, Harry realised that the chains were actually one word, repeated a thousand times in golden ink: friends ... friends ... friends ... Page 340
(Neville) ‘The thing is, it helps when people stand up to them, it gives everyone hope. I used to notice that when you did it, Harry.’ Page 467
His eyes feasted on her (Lily), and he thought that he would like to stand and look at her forever, and that would be enough. Page 571

Stellify, a new star in the sky
‘Who of you is the best with defensive spells?’ you asked the group of students you were leading through the deserted corridors. You felt like you were acting like the ‘I’m-so-much-smarter’ adult, but you had to make sure these seventeen-year olds stayed safe.
Two of the students, Jake and Aya, offered to protect the group while the others took their place as the attackers. Your place was the third floor and you stationed you and your group at the windows.
This side of the school was absolutely silent. There were no students here anymore and even the ghosts avoided this particular spot. The silence, however, did make it a little easier to notice any particularities.
‘See anything?’ you asked Mario the student one window over of you.
‘No,’ he answered while he looked into the darkness. You followed his view and watched the dark grounds. Once in a while the sky lit up by the defensive spells Flitwick was casting at the sky, forming a defensive globe around the castle.
There was nothing to see, just darkness and the moonlight. It was a clear night and it would have been beautiful if not for the tension in the air. Though the atmosphere was not one of fright and terror. Everyone was excited; it felt like the final battle. This would be it.
‘What do you think will happen?’ Mario asked you.
‘We have to fight,’ you sighed and looked around at the students. ‘With all our power. It’s now or never.’
Mario stayed silent as he looked back outside. The time ticked by. Minutes of silence as nothing happened. It felt as if the side of the castle you were on was separated from the rest so that there would be no sounds. Jake and Aya were both on one side of the corridor, walking up and down, checking to see if there was any possible threat. But there was not. Not even one person, good or bad, was seen by you.
‘It’s almost midnight,’ Mario mumbled.
‘Guys, come here for a second,’ you said. You looked at the scared yet determined faces of the seventeen year olds and you felt a sting of sadness rushing through your body; you didn’t know how many would make it. You did not even know if you were going to make it. You pushed that thought out of your mind as you continued,
‘You need to fight with all you’ve got. I can’t promise you the end, no one can, but it’s better to lose a hero than to live with the thought of not haven given your everything. Think of your family, friends and all the innocent children in the world. This is your chance to change the world they will grow up in. Take care of yourself and of the others.’
The students nodded at your words and then took their places as the clock stroke midnight.
A deafening bang sounded over the school grounds and everything on it. The glass in the windows vibrated and you took a step back. The globe of protective spells was being attacked with hundreds of spells from the outside. Cracks started to form and the sounds from outside the bubble became louder.
The screaming and incantations of spells disrupted the silence. The battle had begun.
You broke the glass of the window with your wand and started to cast spells from your place up on the third floor at the death eaters down on the ground. The students around you followed your movements. They were good; they hit a lot of death eaters, making them fall promptly on the ground or screaming in pain. And hidden from the view of the people on the ground, you felt a little protected at least.
-=-=-=-=-
George stood in silence at the tapestry that gave access to the outside of the castle. He rarely used this secret passage, anyone did. If you went through it you would come outside at the back of the castle in wild shrubbery. The time it would take to get out of there could better be used for one of the other passages, that maybe were a little longer, but those wouldn’t give you scratches all over your legs and arms.
But this was George’s place. Fred was somewhere else in the castle, at the statue of the witch that hid the secret passage to Hogsmeade. It was weird without Fred. Whenever they had discussed the battle they had always assumed that they would battle side by side.
What worried George even more however, was that he had no idea where you were. He knew Fred would be alright. He knew you would be alright too, but he was worried about you. He didn’t want you to get hurt.
George snorted at the thought of what Fred would say at that. Fred had been telling his twin for months now that it was obvious George had feelings for you and that it was obvious you had feelings for George too. But George never listened. You could never like George, you were just his friend.
The castle shook and a light flash lit up the corridor George was in. The battle had begun.
George raised his wand, ready to attack anyone who he might see, but the corridor was empty. If the death eaters were at the front of the school, it would take hours with all the defence for them to reach this side of the castle. But George stayed at his assigned spot. Because there might come someone. And he thought, with a little guilt, this was a reasonably safe spot.
The sounds got louder and the flashes of light brighter. George could now hear screaming and yelling from further in the castle. But there was still no one on this side.
After five minutes George got impatient. This task seemed useless. He wanted to fight. He had come here to fight, not to sit on the floor watching a door that would never open.
And as the flashes of light now changed into different colours, George made a decision. Maybe he could help Fred, or you. But he would not stay in a silent part of the castle while the others fought with their lives.
George ran out of the hallway leaving the emptiness for the liveliness of the rest of the castle. As soon as he reached the stairs he saw that people were fighting vigorously. The spells flew around his head while he ran up the steps two at a time. George’s old classmates, family, friends, other students of Hogwarts and the Order. They were all fighting with everything they got.
A curse nearly hit George as he reached the top of the stairs and he had to duck away to not get hit a second time. Within a second he was caught in a one-to-one battle with a death eater. But George was stronger than the man opposite of him. He quickly fired three curses and they all hit the death eater in his chest. The man fell down and green vines started to grow from his chest, covering his limbs and face.
A shiver ran down George’s spine as he watched what his curse had done to the man. He had never known he could be that violent. But the thought was pushed out of his mind when he heard a scream. Without one look at the unconscious death eater George ran further into the hall, following the sound of the scream.
Neville almost bumped into George and nearly dropped the plants he was holding in his arms. The boy had a smug smile on his face and the sweat was on his forehead. George had never seen Neville so courageous.
‘We got this, George!’ he screamed as he ran along, diving away for a spell.
The scream had faded away meanwhile, but George still made his way to the front of the castle. More and more people were lying on the ground here, both death eaters and Hogwarts students. George’s stomach twisted at the sight of a young blonde girl that lay on the stone floor, her eyes open wide and her mouth closed in a thin line. One side of her face had been blast away, revealing her dark red flesh.
‘George!’
Someone was calling his name, but George could not avert his eyes from the girl. It filled him with fear and anger, so much that he did not know what to do. He wanted to save the girl, even though he knew deep down that she could not be saved anymore. Her life had ended while she had tried to protect the world.
‘George!’
His name was called again, but this time someone put their hand under his chin, forcing him to look away from the blonde. He was met with your eyes that were big and stood full with tears. But you had a smile on your face. The smile that you always saved for George.
‘Come on,’ you spoke softly.
Your voice was clearer than the sounds around the both of you. The screaming faded a little as George followed you. You brought him to a corridor that was more quiet. There was only one other person there and while George looked around the space you talked to them.
‘Mario, you alright?’ you asked.
‘I’m fine. That guy down there isn’t,’ the guy, apparently named Mario, said and pointed at the ground, where a mess of black cloaks lied.
‘Good work,’ you complimented Mario and sent him a smile. Then you turned back to George. ‘Georgie, are you alright?’
George nodded but his voice seemed lost in his throat.
‘That girl… we tried to save her. But it happened suddenly. There was a loud explosion and she was just… gone.’
A loud bang pulled George from his haze and he roughly was put back in the castle. Your voice wasn’t clearer than the other sounds anymore and the hallway didn’t seem so empty suddenly.
But that was not just George. A group of death eaters had reached the corridor and was now walking down, aiming curses at you, George and Mario.
You were still facing George and had not noticed the death eaters yet. George pulled you with him behind a pillar and the place where you just had stood was blown up in flames.
‘Get behind the other one,’ George whispered to you before firing a spell at the front man. The curse hit perfectly and the man fell down on the floor, squirming in pain before losing consciousness. You crawled to the pillar behind George and started to cast spells at the group that had gotten smaller, because Mario had also managed to hit them.
The light beams flew from George’s wand as he took down the death eaters one by one. They all fell down in pain, some with purple faces, other with empty eyes and one with a second head.
After the men all lay on the floor, George dared to turn to you. You were sitting behind the pillar on your knees and looked with fear and satisfaction at the men. George got up and walked over to you. He helped you get up and realised there was a cut on your cheek. He wiped away the blood and brushed it off on his pants.
‘I’m fine, George,’ you said and pushed his hand away from your face. ‘Now, as much as I like you holding me, I think there are more important things now.’
George took his hand back but let his fingers linger on your skin. He wished there was some way to protect you. But he also knew that if he would find a way, you would get out of it and face the battle.
‘Be safe, alright?’ you said before turning around.
‘Wait!’ George yelled after you.
You turned back and watched George with suspicion and worry. But before you could open your mouth to say anything, George pressed his lips on yours.
It was short. It was sweet. It was a moment of electricity. Something George would have never done if he had been thinking clear. But this wasn’t the time to think logically. If George lost you tonight, a thought that he wouldn’t let through in his mind, he would never be able to live with himself if he hadn’t at least done this.
George let go of you and spun around, running away from you. The burning desire that had left its mark on his lips was still there when he entered the hall again and started to scream spells with a power he never knew he had.
-=-=-=-=-
The curses were flying around your head as you reached the fifth floor of the castle. The touch of George’s lips was imprinted on your skin. The pain in your ankle, which you had gotten from ducking away and falling, felt not like your pain. It was as if someone was just telling you that you were in pain. But you were not, because you were not thinking of it. Your mind was still in the empty corridor with George’s hands around your waist.
At the back of the hallway you saw a redhead similar yet completely different to the man that had just kissed you. Fred was fighting along Percy. They both had a grin on their face.
You noticed three persons crawling from the darkness behind Fred and George. You raised your wand at them, but when they came into the light you saw Harry, Ron and Hermione. You ran to them, your feet manoeuvring between the rocks on the floor.
The scream of a woman made you turn around, nearly tripping over one of the stones on the floor. There, on the other side of the corridor, stood a small figure. Her hands were raised in the air, her wand loosely in her left hand. Even from the distance you could feel the pride radiating off her. She screamed victoriously and the grip on her wand tightened. A bright blue flash came from the stick and flew along you.
It was all happening fast and very slow at the same time. Like someone had put a hold on the time.
The blue flash hit the wall on the other side of the corridor. You saw the cracks in the wall spreading and you saw how little rocks flew from it. There was a bright flash of light. Then you heard the sound. The deafening bang that you felt in your chest. The wall broke apart with so much power everyone fell from their feet. The hall filled with dust and it was like everything was covered with a blanket. The bricks from the wall flew around, almost hitting your head.
There was a second flash and the other wall exploded. You pressed your body against the ground and wrapped your arms over your head. The cackling laughter of the woman filled the hallway as you lay covered in dust, fearing for your life.
The thundering sound stayed in the air and you looked up. All around you was dust and rocks. The wound on your cheek stung from the dirt but you ignored it. You stumbled through the rubble to the others and that was when you heard it.
The scream that would stay in your mind forever. The scream that would haunt your sleep. That would wake you at night with sweat all over your body. The scream that you felt in your bones.
It was the scream of the end. The end of life.
Percy was bent over a body and you did not need to look longer than a fraction of a second to know who. You fell on your knees and a wail escaped your mouth. All your emotions were sucked out of your body. You screamed the pain out of your body until your throat stopped working due to the tears that were running down your face.
You could not bring yourself to look. You could not look at the body, at the empty eyes, the empty smile, the empty body. The place that had once been Fred.
Percy’s scream synchronised with yours. You felt his pain. The aching darkness spreading through your body. The cold feeling in your limbs and the ice in your heart.
No words reached you. People talked to you, but you didn’t hear them. Someone placed a hand on your shoulder and that was when you looked up.
The first thing you saw was his red hair. That messy mob of hair that you recognised from miles away. But what used to be a bright red, was now dark. It held nothing from the liveliness it had always done.
His hands were lying along his body. The fingers that used to play with your hair, that were always so strongly wrapped around his wand when he was playing a prank with magic, that drummed on the table when he was nervous. The fingers that now would never move again. You would never hear his drumming again and you would never feel his nails scratch your skull when he braided your hair.
You stopped looking. It hurt too much. Your cheeks had dried and your tears had disappeared. You were too sad to cry.
There was nothing you could do anymore; Fred was gone.

Chapter 1: What Lies Ahead
Verna Malinda had been anxiously awaiting the beginning of her fifth year at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, even with a detention of indeterminate length looming in front of her. She knew in her heart that this year was going to be important, and not just because of the O.W.L. examinations but because of the events of last June, and the chance of finding Jacob in the next vault. For Verna, summers had, for the past four years, felt like an inescapable limbo. Every year she longed to be back at Hogwarts, delving into the mystery of the Cursed Vaults. This year, however, she had been elected as a prefect to her great surprise. She hadn’t really considered prefectdom as something to aspire to, because all her time was spent either breaking the rules or planning to break them. Was it really appropriate for a Hogwarts prefect to be serving detention? Mysterious were the ways of Professor Dumbledore.
~
As the Hogwarts Express whistled as a signal for departure, Verna waved to her father from the train’s window and then turned to her friend, Rowan Khanna, the one out of the two of them who should’ve been the prefect. Rowan pushed their glasses up their nose and smiled.
“What is it?”
“I ought to go find Charlie,” Verna said as the train picked up speed. She’d been feeling all kinds of weird about talking to Rowan ever since she got the letter proclaiming her prefect. It had been Rowan’s ambition to claim that spot ever since year one, and somehow Verna had managed it even though she hadn’t even tried.
“Alright, I’ll find Ben. We’ll hold a spot for you, if you get a moment to come sit with us,” Rowan replied and the two headed their separate ways. So far it didn’t seem like Rowan was holding Verna’s election as a prefect against her. Even in their letters, Rowan had only seemed supportive and proud. They had been friends since first year, and Verna hadn’t exactly stolen Rowan’s spot on purpose. In fact, she was fairly certain she had entirely too much on her plate for this year even without being a prefect.
~
Once Verna located Charlie Weasley, Gryffindor’s resident Dragon-enthusiast and Quidditch hero, and as it happened, her fellow prefect, the two of them headed to the special carriage meant for prefects and the Head Boy and Girl.
“What in Merlin’s name possessed Professor Dumbledore and McGonagall to make you and I prefects?” asked Charlie, sounding genuinely confused, although in his defence, it was truly baffling.
“I have a theory that it’s to make us so busy we won’t have time to do any curse-breaking,” Verna reasoned.
“Bill’s a prefect and he’s had plenty of time,” Charlie argued but then added: “Though maybe that’s why he became the Head Boy… Wow, actually you might be right.”
“Thanks Chaz,” Verna laughed as the two entered the prefect carriage. It was already quite packed with new and old prefects, as well as Bill and the Head Girl, Ella Higgs.
“Are we late because I had to wait for you…?” Charlie whispered and Verna shushed him as Ella and Bill started to congratulate them on their achievement. Verna locked eyes with a certain Slytherin student across the carriage. Apparently Merula Snyde had also become a prefect. Verna should’ve expected as much. Her hair looked tousled as usual, but she had elected to sport a dark eye-makeup, which somehow made the purple of her eyes look even more prominent. Merula gave her a look of loathing and then promptly ignored her. Verna’s mood sunk.
“Hi Verna!” came a greeting from among the other fifth-year prefects. It was Matthew Luther, a Ravenclaw chaser who had given Verna a run for her galleons last quidditch season. Verna was pleased to see not only complete arseholes had become prefects.
“Hey!” Verna replied, taking her place among the others.
“Hi Luther,” Charlie whispered, smiling.
“Nice to see you two made it as prefects.”
Verna was about to answer but was quickly silenced by Bill who very deliberately raised his voice and started his introduction to the wonderful world of prefectdom, looking at the three of them meaningfully.
~
After nearly an hour of instruction, Bill and Ella bade them pleasant journey and reminded them of their job to patrol the corridors in regular intervals. After that, many returned to their friends or settled down in the prefects’ carriage. Bill walked up to Verna and Charlie.
“Congrats on becoming a prefect Verna!” he said and slapped her arm for good measure.
“Thanks, I’ll be sure to be as responsible as you, William.”
Bill laughed and Charlie rolled his eyes.
“Well, I for one think you two will do just fine,” added Bill.
“If you say so…” Charlie mused. “Should we find Rowan and Ben?” he asked Verna.
“Yeah, see you later Bill!”
“Remember to patrol the corridors! And don’t abuse your power!” Bill called after them as Verna and Charlie headed back to find the compartment their friends were sitting in.
“I don’t think he actually has as much faith in us as he lets on…” Charlie said.
“Yeah, probably not. After all he lives with you, and I’m the one who roped him into this curse-breaking stuff in the first place.”
“Yeah, at the ripe old age of 13.” reminded Charlie. Verna was really starting to doubt Professor Dumbledore’s judgement.
~
Rowan and Ben had found a carriage and reserved spots for them. The two seemed in good spirits and Verna felt much more relaxed. If Rowan was on her side, then everything was going to be okay. Even Ben seemed to be okay, even after he was used to attack Verna under the imperius curse last year.
“How was it?” asked Ben as Verna and Charlie took their seats. He glanced quickly at Rowan, who nodded encouragingly. Verna figured Rowan and Ben had been discussing the incident before she and Charlie arrived. The food trolley had passed ages ago, so Verna nicked a treacle tart from Rowan who gave her an exasperated but amused look.
“Pretty standard stuff, honestly. They explained everything we were told in the briefing about prefects at the end of last year,” explained Charlie.
“Who else was elected?” Rowan inquired.
“Oh you’ll never guess Slytherin’s-“
“Merula,” Rowan said before Charlie could finish.
“Yeah, and she seemed right pleased about it too, I bet she’s gonna have a blast abusing her position,” Verna grumbled. She really was not looking forward to yet another thing to compete over with Merula.
“Not if we abuse our position first,” Charlie said, grinning.
“No,” Rowan admonished them when they saw Verna’s matching grin.
“I’ll disown you both if you sink to her level.”
Both Charlie and Verna stopped grinning.
“Sorry Rowan,” Verna said bashfully. “We’ll try our best to make you proud.”
Rowan groaned in mock-annoyance, and all four of them laughed at the absurdity of the notion of Charlie and Verna as prefects. Even Ben. Verna’s hopes for the year were rejuvenated a little.
~
The rest of the journey went by in a relatively normal manner. Verna and Charlie patrolled the corridors every now and then but didn’t face any incidents. Tonks gave them both grief about becoming prefects though, and loudly announced that this is why she had trust issues. Verna couldn’t exactly blame her, they had after, pulled pranks together in the past and prefects had a well-earned reputation of being spoilsports. After sunset, the train arrived at the Hogsmeade Station and Charlie and Verna were again required to perform their new duties. Verna hadn’t really thought about how small the first years looked until they all filed out of the train and followed Hagrid to the boats. It wasn’t that long ago she had been in their shoes, completely terrified and anxious to start looking for her brother. Jacob. The thought stung like a wasp. It had taken four years and she was no closer to finding him as she was to finding the next cursed vault. Jacob had always been there to protect her and help her and what good was she, if she couldn’t do the same for him?
~
The Great Hall was all decked out for the Welcome Feast when they entered. Verna always felt a sense of belonging at the sight of Hogwarts, but it was also always mixed with something like dread. This year instead of Professor Dumbledore, it was Professor McGonagall taking the podium to hold the traditional speech after the Sorting. Apparently, the Headmaster was on an errand outside of Hogwarts. They were also going to have a new teacher for Defence Against the Dark Arts, which at this point surprised no one. The new DADA professor did surprise Verna, though. It was Madam Rakepick, the curse breaker Dumbledore had hired to investigate the vaults last year. Rakepick turned her eyes to Verna and something passed across her features, but Verna couldn’t place the expression. Then, just as fast as it had arrived, it passed, and McGonagall bid everyone dig in their food.
~
After the feast, as Verna and Charlie were getting ready to herd all the new Gryffindors (including Bill and Charlie’s little brother Percy) to their common room, Penny walked up to them, looking excited.
“Hey!” she beamed and tailing behind her was a small blonde girl who looked very much like Penny. “How was your summer?”
“Oh, you know, researching advanced curses, eagerly awaiting for my detention this year, the usual” Verna joked.
“I worked on my extra credit stuff for Professor Kettleburn,” Charlie said. “And hung out with my siblings. Fred and George have gotten it into their heads they wanna be the best quidditch players in the world and I have to be their coach.”
“That sounds really nice! We need to catch up more later, I just wanted to introduce you two to my sister, Beatrice,” Penny exclaimed, and the younger girl waved her hand at them.
“Hi,” she said, rather excitably.
“Hi Beatrice, I’m Verna and this is Charlie.”
Next to her Charlie smiled wide and shook Beatrice’s hand. It seemed to Verna that she appreciated being treated like a grown-up.
“Figured you were Penny’s sister when they called Haywood during the Sorting,” Charlie said.
Beatrice nodded. “And now we’re both in Hufflepuff! I was hoping for it, but I would’ve been happy with Gryffindor too.”
“Bea is… sort of a fan of yours,” Penny explained looking at Verna. “She’s always asking me to tell her stories of my adventures with the famous curse-breaker Verna Malinda.”
“Now I can join you!” Beatrice said. “To find your brother and the cursed vaults.”
This, admittedly, took Verna by surprise. She glanced at Penny who, by the look on her face, had not expected this either.
“Bea…” Penny whispered.
“I mean it, I want to help,” Beatrice insisted.
“Well… Maybe you can help with some small things, but I’ll be honest with you, it’s really dangerous stuff,” Verna told the young witch and hoped that was the end of it. No such luck.
“You investigated the cursed ice when you were just first-years,” Beatrice protested.
“That’s… true…” Penny admitted but didn’t look happy about it.
“And Harry Potter defeated You-Know-Who when he was just a baby!”
“She has a point, you know,” Charlie cut in.
“Knock it off, Weasley. There’ll be plenty of time for death-defying adventures when you’re older Bea, for now you can just show Verna what you made for her,” Penny said with a glare at Charlie, who seemed vaguely apologetic.
With only a little complaining, Beatrice presented Verna with a yellow, self-made puffskein toy. It was extremely cute, and the gesture made Verna wonder how much Penny had exaggerated her stories.
“Thank you, Beatrice, this is super cool,” she said as she inspected the stuffed animal. After that, she was served to a story about shaving the Haywoods’ pet puffskein every week for the hairs to make the toy, after which Penny had clearly had her fill, because she whisked Beatrice away and Charlie arched an eyebrow. “Wow, they really do just keep getting smaller.”
~
Up in the Gryffindor Tower, the young students were excited but obviously tired, so Verna kept her introduction short and let them explore on their own or just go to bed. After that, the two new prefects made their way to their favourite corner of the common room. The couch there was already occupied by Rowan and Ben.
“Hey guys,” said Ben meekly behind his new Charms textbook.
Charlie squished into the vacant spot between Rowan and the armrest, while Verna sat on the floor, not bothering to drag the nearest chair closer.
“I think I’m going to possibly have a mental breakdown this year,” she mused. “I mean I still have to find my brother, do normal homework, play Quidditch, study for O.W.L.s, and now be a prefect.”
“If you had started studying for the O.W.L.s first year like I told you, you wouldn’t be in this situation,” Rowan simply said. It’s not like they were wrong, but Verna still rolled her eyes.
“Literally no one else but you does that, Rowan” Charlie jumped into her defence, which Verna appreciated. She fist bumped Charlie over Rowan’s lap.
“You two are impossible,” Rowan said warmly and turned to look at Ben. Verna followed their gaze and noticed Ben looked distinctly uncomfortable. Well, more than usual.
“Ben…” she started.
“I just wanna say I’m sorry,” Ben blurted out. “I know you already said it’s fine last year, but I don’t think it’s fine. I’m too easy a target to use against you, and I don’t think you should include me in your plans anymore.”
Verna stared at him for a moment, trying to find words. Any one of her friends could’ve been used as a pawn by a dark wizard. After all, they were only students up against adult wizards.
“Ben, I get it. I’d probably feel the same way if it was me in your shoes right now, because it easily could be. You’re not weak for losing against an adult.”
Ben bit his lip nervously. “But I-“
“We need you. You’re one of my best friends and nobody blames you for what happened,” Verna countered before Ben could form a proper argument.
“In the train you lot acted as if nothing was out of the ordinary when everything is!” he slumped against the couch and let the textbook fall into his lap. “I’m going to bed.”
With that, Ben got up and disappeared into the boys’ dormitory, his friends’ pleas falling on deaf ears. Verna looked at Charlie and Rowan.
“Maybe he just needs some more time…” Charlie mused.
“I think I was too harsh on him last year,” Rowan said. “I apologized though. In the train. We had a whole chat about it.”
“I’m glad,” Verna said with a smile. It hadn’t felt right, when Ben and Rowan weren’t on speaking terms.
“He just hasn’t had the easiest time at Hogwarts,” Rowan continued. “And all this business with the vaults… I think it has us all on edge.”
“Understatement of the year…” muttered Charlie.
“Well… It’s only the first day of it, we’ll have plenty of time to make more understatements,” said Rowan gloomily.

who's your favourite character from each episode? ^ ^
This will take me a while but... thank you @lapis-lazuliie!
There will be SPOILERS!
Series 1:
Sardines - Stuart. He is literally just... innuendos galore and we love that. He is so ridiculous but so sweet at the same time. Anything that comes out of his mouth in that episode is funny
A Quiet Night In - This one is tricky because it's hard to become attached to people when they just use actions. But I would say Ray just because he gets so annoyed at Eddie and literally everything, and he is the most intelligent out if the two (even though he's still pretty stupid)
Tom and Gerri - This is one is going to be weird because its actually neither Reece or Steve's characters. I love Tom and he deserves better but like... it was actually Stevie, Conleth Hill's character. He was just SO hilarious and sassy, we love it
Last Gasp - In all honesty, it was Tamsin. The little girl. The rest of the characters were dicks and annoyed me, honestly. She was the only one making sense and who made the most logical decisions.
The Understudy - My favourite character was probably Jim. As you mentioned, he never actually does anything wrong and he just wants to be a good actor. He doesn't want to be an understudy, that's all. The fame later does get to his head a little but... who can blame him?
The Harrowing - Hectoooor, my boooyyy! He was SUCH a character. Reece plays such a great creepy 'Addams Family' character who is definitely not a vampire.
Series 2:
La Couchette - Ahh this one is a hard pick, and its between Maxwell and Shona. Maxwell was so moody and gave me successful Lisgoe vibes. THE HAIR 🥰! But Shona was so respectful and a lovely human being. I can't really choose for that one 😳
Christine - Of course it's got to be Christine. My beloved Sheridan, come on. But just the way she realises more and more as it goes on, the emotion I can't
Gadge - Mr Warren. Now hear me out... I know we are supposed to hate him but just the way he is so determined to accuse Elizabeth, it really reflects how real witchfinders were then. And like... the hair, that too maybe
Cold Comfort - I am going to be hated for this but... George. I can explain. I like George because he just seems so creepy and... kind of crazy. He goes through the trouble of sending his colleagues completely bonkers by pretending to be a teenage girl, its epic psychopathic behaviour.
Nana's Party - Pat 👏🏻 deserves 👏🏻 more 👏🏻. I will always believe that. He takes so much shit, honestly. He has to deal with his bitch of a wife, he knows she's having an affair with his best friend, and he gets electrocuted. He just wants to watch porn videos, play pranks and eat food! Leave him alone 😭
Séance Time - I'll admit that I don't really enjoy this episode so I don't really have a favourite character. But Steve's character, Pete, just cracked me up. He didn't even want to be there and he just basically messed everything up 😂
Series 3:
The Devil of Christmas - the one's a hard one to choose for because I didn't really become very attached to any of the characters. However, Kathy really shines as the main role and the way she literally kills Julian at the end is brilliant. However, it is chilling quickly the actress for Kathy (as in her actress on the set of the episode, not in real life lol) became suddenly distressed as she realised what was going on at the end.
The Bill. This is an episode that I've only really watched a couple of times, and in all honesty, I dislike all of the characters. Not because I dislike the episode, just because I feel like the characters are supposed to be disliked. I probably sympathise with Archie the most but he's still kind of a dick 😂
Sphinx. Squires!! Okay... this is going to be a tricky one to explain. It's not just because of the get up, you know the gown 😳. That is one reason- ahem... but technically he only poisoned Nina in self defence. I understand the um... underslip buy yeAH
Empty Orchestra. Probably Janet. She deserved better and she literally got shat on just because she's deaf. Also... she got Greg and Connie found out AND she got the guy she wanted in the end so like... YES. Also can I just say... the way the heartbeat was done at the end between then, the lads outdid themselves.
Diddle Diddle Dumpling. This is another episode I don't actually watch too often but of course, David is my boi. He's a depressed boy and he's going through the worst thing ever, he gets attached to a shoe. Come on... I feel bad for him, man
Private View. My favourite character here is definitely Jean. She was actually kind of wholesome at first before you realise she was the one killing everybody. She just loves her son and wants revenge, jeez
Series 4:
Zanzibar. Sorry... Henry. Look... the accent, the costume, just... hIM. The knife, bloody hell. Honky on main 😳✋🏻
Bernie. This one is tricky because like... Tommy and Len but I think I'll have to go with Tommy. He goes through so much grief and its him that makes the episode so emotional. The way he's so serious throughout the whole episode and then just breaks down, so saddening. And then finding out that he's imagining the whole thing. Ughhh chills!
Once Removed. MUUURDER MITTENNNSSS! Viktor is just so great and I'm lOOKING respectfully. Sorry but the "listen to me, bitch" line 😳✋🏻
To Have and To Hold. Look... I've said it before and I'll say it again: Harriet did absolutely nothing wrong. Adrian is a dick and I hated him from the start but once you find out what he did... nO. I'm glad he plummeted down those stairs. So yeah... Harriet is my favourite
Wow, sorry! I completely forgot And The Winner Is.... I will go with Jackie for this one because she is just so adorable. Okay, she's an actor in disguise but like... she's really sweet and they all pick on her.
Tempting Fate. Maz is hilarious but I have to go with Nick here. Pleasseee, I know that he did a shitty thing at the end. But he's a mystical boi with his degree in a mythology and folklore. And like... the bird tattoo! Lisgoe vibes 😳
Deadline. Technically there aren't characters in this but like... Reece 😳
Series 5:
The Referee's a W*nker. OH this is a hard one because I literally watched this for the first time the other day. I avoided it up until now because I hate football. But I think I have to go with Oggy. I don't know, he's just so funny and he makes the jokes that I actually understood so... that's good.
Death Be Not Proud. MAUREEN, my girl. Mrs Sowerbutts, you have my heart ✋🏻. She's amazing. Yeeees she's a murderer and has a weird obsession with her son but mAuReEn
Love's Great Adventure. Trevor! I know I said I wasn't very attached to him, but I am more to him than the others in this episode. I do love Julia but like... Trevor just goes through so much, even from his own son, so I do feel for him alot.
Misdirection. Come on, it's got to be Neville. The hANDS and just his... enigmatic vibe. Love him. Him killing that guy was a dick move but like... he cute so ☺
Thinking Out Loud. I know there was TECHNICALLY only two characters in this, since the rest were Nadia's personalities. However, I think it's a pick between Aiden and Angel. I think it's Angel though, she's so positive and lovely. And genuinely funny. Really loved the old 'YouTube storytime' feel.
The Stakeout. Varney lol. Like... wOw was not expecting that. Like he can succ my necc any day tbh... sOrry being honky on main. No, honestly it was so surprising that he turned out as a vampire. Then again, maybe I'm just uncultured.
Series 6:
Wuthering Heist. Obviously, I go for my boy Scaramouche! He was so tiny and funny, the cutest little goblin. For some reason, Reece looked alot smaller in this episode but I think its because he was stood next to Mario alot. He was an icon.
Simon Says. This is tricky, because I love both Simon and Spencer. However, Spencer is the way to go. He was just so angry and sassy, but he honestly had every right to act that way. This random dude basically took over his career, I'd probably react that way too.
Lip Service. Felix because he was just so sweet, and he didn't deserve that. Like he got loads of shit from Muller and then he got shot like tf Iris-
Hurry Up and Wait. I seriously love Bev, and I can't even tell you why. She's just sweet and she likes toys 🥰. We know the ending but like... I still love her.
How Do You Plead?. Is this even a question? It's Urban, of course. He is just so adorable and he's a little angel. Seriously has been a nurse his whole life because he killed a kid in school. If that's not atoning for your sins, I don't know what is
Proms. I'm so sorry but it's Brian 😂. And its not just because he's d*ddy. He's smol and bitter, but he's such a complex character. He's fruity, he's angry, and he's definitely not sober. Yes King!

Chapter Nine: More Bad News.
Mel had to stay in her bedroom because of the dreadful headache she was suffering.
The back of her hand was burning, and she could see the skin actually starting to get a mark.
She wanted to see Ron's try out but she didn't want to fall unconscious in front of everyone. The girl rolled over on her bed, holding her hand and trying to ground herself, but her mind was fixed on Harry and his awful temper. It was true that he didn't deserve the punishment, but she didn't deserve to feel it either!
She went back to the common room, her head feeling heavy. Ron immediately walked up to her and handed her a butterbeer, he was beaming.
"I got in!" Ron did something he'd never done before and hugged her. "I'm on the team!"
"Blimey, Ronnie!" She grinned. "A Prefect and Gryffindor's keeper? You'll be getting dates in no time!"
"Lady!" Fred spoke up. "You knew about this?"
"I helped him train!" She said. "He's good isn't he?"
"He's all right," George shrugged.
"Let's hope his massive nose doesn't get it the way..." Fred smirked.
"Oh, shut up," Mel rolled her eyes.
"Come and make me," He taunted.
Luckily for her, Harry walked in right at that moment, and Ron dragged her with him to meet the boy.
"Harry, I did it, I'm in, I'm Keeper!"
"What? Oh — brilliant!"
"Have a butterbeer. I can't believe it — where's Hermione gone?"
"She's there," said Fred.
Hermione was sleeping soundly on one of the chairs.
"Well, she said she was pleased when I told her..." said Ron.
"Let her sleep..." said George, and in no time a bunch of first years surrounded him and his twin.
"Come here, Ron, and see if Oliver's old robes fit you," said Katie Bell. "We can take off his name and put yours on instead..."
Angelina walked up to Harry and her.
"Sorry I was a bit short with you earlier, Potter. It's stressful, this managing lark, you know, I'm starting to think I was a bit hard on Wood sometimes... Look, I know he's your best mate, but he's not fabulous," She made a vague movement towards Ron. "I think with a bit of training he'll be all right, though. He comes from a family of good Quidditch players. I'm banking on him turning out to have a bit more talent than he showed today, to be honest. Vicky Frobisher and Geoffrey Hooper both flew better this evening, but Hooper's a real whiner, he's always moaning about something or other, and Vicky's involved in all sorts of societies, she admitted herself that if training clashed with her Charm Club she'd put Charms first. Anyway, we're having a practice session at two o'clock tomorrow, so just make sure you're there this time. And do me a favour and help Ron as much as you can, okay?"
Harry nodded and then he turned, his gaze fixed on her.
"You're... you're bleeding."
"Huh?" Mel frowned.
Harry reached for her hand and Mel stepped back.
"I'm fine," She grumbled, walking to where Hermione was sleeping.
"It's happening again, isn't it?" Harry insisted.
"It never stopped," Mel scoffed. "Turning your back on me did nothing."
"You... you were supposed to be safe..."
She looked at him, his voice came out so utterly defeated that she had to take a moment to answer.
"You really thought it'd work?" Mel asked, this time softer. "What am I supposed to say? That I'm sorry? 'Hey, at least you tried!'– I told you..." Her shoulders fell, she had no energy to be angry. "Harry, I told you... What d'you want me to say?"
He stared at her, speechless and disappointed.
"Oh, guys, it's you..." Hermione stirred up in her place. "Good about Ron, isn't it?"
"Yeah..." She responded without breaking eye contact with Harry. "Yeah... I'm really happy for him."
"I'm just so — so — so tired. I was up until one o'clock making more hats. They're disappearing like mad!"
"You and those hats," Mel sighed, finally looking down at her friend.
"Listen," The boy sat in front of them. "Dumbledore said we should stick together, right? All right– I'll tell you what happened– I was just up in Umbridge's office and she touched my arm– and it... it stung! It reminded me of... you know..."
Hermione started slowly.
"You're worried that You-Know-Who's controlling her like he controlled Quirrell?"
"Well, it's a possibility, isn't it?"
"I mean... the Order believes it's very likely Voldemort has a few spies there..." Mel admitted.
"I suppose so," said Hermione. "But I don't think he can be possessing her the way he possessed Quirrell, I mean, he's properly alive again now, isn't he, he's got his own body, he wouldn't need to share someone else's. He could have her under the Imperius Curse, I suppose... But last year your scar hurt when nobody was touching you and didn't Dumbledore say it had to do with what You-Know-Who was feeling at the time? I mean, maybe this hasn't got anything to do with Umbridge at all, maybe it's just coincidence it happened while you were with her?"
"She's evil," said Harry glancing at Mel's hand. "Twisted."
"She's horrible, yes, but... Harry, I think you ought to tell Dumbledore your scar hurt."
"I'm not bothering him with this. Like you just said, it's not a big deal. It's been hurting on and off all summer — it was just a bit worse tonight, that's all —"
"Harry, I'm sure Dumbledore would want to be bothered by this —"
"Yeah, that's the only bit of me Dumbledore cares about, isn't it, my scar?"
"Don't say that, it's not true!"
"Mel, do you think he'll care?" He asked her, and in his voice, she could tell he was asking for real advice.
"I reckon he'll say it's normal now that Voldemort's alive," She sighed after a bit of pondering. "Doesn't mean he doesn't care about you, though. As I said, he asked me to help you."
"I think I'll write and tell Sirius about it, see what he thinks —"
"Harry, you can't put something like that in a letter! Don't you remember, Moody told us to be careful what we put in writing! We just can't guarantee owls aren't being intercepted anymore!"
"All right, all right, I won't tell him, then!" said Harry getting up. "I'm going to bed. Tell Ron for me, will you?"
"Oh no! if you're going that means I can go without being rude too, I'm absolutely exhausted and I want to make some more hats tomorrow. Listen, you can help me if you like, it's quite fun, I'm getting better, I can do patterns and bobbles and all sorts of things now."
"Er... no, I don't think I will, thanks. Er — not tomorrow. I've got loads of homework to do... why don't you ask Mel? I still have the hat she gave me, she was getting quite good..."
"Nope, sorry," Mel got up and made her way over to the twins and Ron. "Too busy, got loads to do..."
She felt something warming up on her pocket and pulled it out. She smiled down at the watch on her hand, a message glowing on it.
'Sunday, 5 pm'
Tumblr media
"Anything interesting?"
"No, just some guff about the bass player in the Weird Sisters getting married... Wait a moment– Oh no... Sirius!"
Mel dropped her fork.
"What now?"
"What's happened?" Harry took the paper so violently it ripped in half.
"'The Ministry of Magic has received a tip-off from a reliable source that Sirius Black, notorious mass murderer... blah blah blah... is currently hiding in London!"
"Lucius Malfoy, I'll bet anything," said Harry. "He did recognize Sirius on the platform..."
"What? You didn't say —"
"Oh no– if they saw him in the platform that means they saw him with my mother!" Mel realized in horror.
"...'Ministry warns Wizarding community that Black is very dangerous... killed thirteen people... broke out of Azkaban...' the usual rubbish– Well, he just won't be able to leave the house again, that's all. Dumbledore did warn him not to."
"Poor Snuffles, he'll go crazy..."
"Hey! Look at this!" Harry gave a start.
"I've got all the robes I want," said Ron, glancing to what Harry was showing him.
"No, look... this little piece here..."
TRESPASS AT MINISTRY
Sturgis Podmore, 38, of number two, Laburnum Gardens, Clapham, has appeared in front of the Wizengamot charged with trespass and attempted robbery at the Ministry of Magic on 31st August. Podmore was arrested by Ministry of Magic watch- wizard Eric Munch, who found him attempting to force his way through a top-security door at one o'clock in the morning. Podmore, who refused to speak in his own defence, was convicted on both charges and sentenced to six months in Azkaban.
"Sturgis Podmore? but he's that bloke who looks like his head's been thatched, isn't he? He's one of the Ord —"
"Ron, shh!"
"Six months in Azkaban! Just for trying to get through a door!" Harry exclaimed.
"Don't be silly, it wasn't just for trying to get through a door — what on earth was he doing at the Ministry of Magic at one o'clock in the morning?"
"D'you reckon he was doing something for the Order?"
"Wait a moment... Sturgis was supposed to come and see us off, remember? Yeah, he was supposed to be part of our guard going to King's Cross, remember? And Moody was all annoyed because he didn't turn up, so that doesn't seem like he was supposed to be on a job for them, does it?"
"Well, maybe they didn't expect him to get caught."
"It could be a frame-up!" Ron exclaimed. "No — listen! The Ministry suspects he's one of Dumbledore's lot so — I dunno — they lured him to the Ministry, and he wasn't trying to get through a door at all! Maybe they've just made something up to get him!"
"Do you know, I wouldn't be at all surprised if that were true," Hermione shook her head. "Right, well, I think we should tackle that essay for Sprout on Self-Fertilizing Shrubs first, and if we're lucky we'll be able to start McGonagall's Inanimatus Conjurus before lunch..."
"We've got Quidditch Ron and I," Harry hurried to say.
"You can come with me, 'Mione," Mel told her. "I'm going to meet Erick in the library, anyway..."
But as soon as she said it she wanted to take it back. The idea didn't feel as appealing as going alone. She decided to bail on it and find another day to meet him in private.
"Hang on– it just came to me– I... I have to do something," She got up, picking up her bag. "Apologize to Erick for me, won't you? Tell him I'll meet him next week..."
"Oh," Hermione's smiled faltered a bit. "All right, I have a few questions about charms, maybe he knows..."
Tumblr media
"What are you doing here?" Harry asked as she joined them.
"Don't ask, keep walking," She said. "I don't feel like studying, that's all."
"If I didn't know you any better, I'd say you're getting tired of your study sessions..."
"I would never," Mel frowned. "I know what you're trying to suggest, but you're wrong. Now shut up and keep going."
Harry nodded silently, not wanting to ruin the moment.
"Wish I had your dedication," Ron told her. "The schoolwork isn't killing you. I mean, we can do it tonight and we've got tomorrow. Hermione's the one that gets too worked up about work, that's her problem... D'you think she meant it when she said we weren't copying from her?"
"Yeah, I do. Still, this is important too, we've got to practice if we want to stay on the Quidditch team..."
"Yeah, that's right– And we have got plenty of time to do it all..."
"And you've got me– not that I'm going to give you the answers just like that, but you know, I'm clever and all..." Mel shrugged.
"Well..." Harry looked at her when they reached the dressing room. "See you in a minute..."
Mel nodded shortly before walking to the stands. What was happening to her? She didn't know how to act around anyone anymore. Didn't feel like herself, always bottling up every emotion...
She spotted Malfoy and his team waiting to see the newest Gryffindor addition. Ron had a very thin ego and they couldn't afford to lose him on the very first day.
"What's that Weasley's riding?" Malfoy called as the Gryffindor lot walked out of the dressing room. "Why would anyone put a Flying Charm on a mouldy old log like that?"
"Don't get involved..." Mel mumbled under her breath.
"Hey, Johnson, what's with that hairstyle anyway?" Pansy Parkinson yelled. "Why would anyone want to look like they've got worms coming out of their head?"
The Slytherins hadn't noticed her since she was a few seats behind them, and she didn't want them to, they were bound to tease her and she needed to stay out of trouble.
On his third attempt, Ron caught the Quaffle; perhaps out of relief he passed it on so enthusiastically that it soared straight through Katie's outstretched hands and hit her hard in the face.
"Sorry!" Ron groaned, zooming forward to see whether he had done any damage.
"Get back in position, she's fine!" barked Angelina. "But as you're passing to a teammate, do try not to knock her off her broom, won't you? We've got Bludgers for that!"
Katie's nose was bleeding. Down below the Slytherins were stamping their feet and jeering. Fred and George converged on Katie.
"Okay, maybe..." Mel started, "maybe I'll get involved just a little..."
The lot was now singing 'Gryffindor are losers, Gryffindor are losers,' and many things happened at once: First, directly from her palm, a bunch of red sparks burst and surrounded the Slytherins with an explosion. They covered their faces and jumped out of their seats, trying to put them down. Mel gasped and covered her mouth in shock, she hadn't intended to do that, but there was nothing she could do now.
Back in the Quidditch field, Katie was bleeding profusely, and Angelina stopped the practice to take her to the infirmary. Pansy turned around and spotted Mel, pointing an accusing finger at her.
"You!"
She smiled as innocently as possible. "What's wrong?"
Pansy pulled out her wand and Mel stood up, her smile fading.
"Do it– See what happens, dear prefect, once the teachers find out you attacked an unarmed student."
"You attacked first," She snarled, the rest of her classmates had scattered away, though the firecrackers followed them around.
"Did I?" Mel leaned closer and jumped over the seats that kept them apart, one row after the other. When she was finally in front of her, she added, "Prove it."
No one knew she could do wandless magic. Not to mention that when Pansy asked her to empty her pockets –'prefect orders,' she'd sneered– there was nothing but a pocket watch.
Far from feeling ashamed, a wave of power hit her. No one had to know, and as long as she kept a low profile and a sweet attitude, she could make Pansy and Malfoy's lives an actual hell.
Tumblr media
The twins approached the next day when they found out she was the only one near enough the Slytherins to set them on fire. Nothing bad happened to them, but it sure scared them off, and they weren't planning on going back to the training sessions any time soon.
Mel liked the twins' praising and she spent the rest of the day with them, leaving Ron and Harry to do their homework alone.
As a consequence of this, many students approached her. Now that she wasn't around Harry so much they seemed to think she had more common sense than expected. Not that she was talking rubbish about Harry, but she was definitely more likeable when she wasn't attacking others in order to defend him. That without mentioning she was far less loud and dramatic than years prior.
She went back to the common room that night with a bunch of new friends, even better, friends from different houses. Ron didn't like that, he was upset because she hadn't been there to help him as she'd promised. His anger only got worse when he received a letter from his older brother.
"Well," Harry said jokingly once they finished reading it, "if you want to — er — what is it? Oh yeah — 'sever ties' with me, I swear I won't get violent."
"Give it back," He snatched the letter. "He is —the world's biggest git." Ron ripped the letter into small pieces and threw them in the fire. "Come on, we've got to get this finished sometime before dawn..."
"I wonder what rubbish is the Daily Prophet writing now," Mel said absently.
"Oh, give them here," Hermione said abruptly, taking the boy's homework.
"What?"
"Give them to me, I'll look through them and correct them."
"Are you serious? Ah, Hermione, you're a lifesaver, what can I — ?"
"What you can say is, 'We promise we'll never leave our homework this late again,'– Where are you going, Mel? You promised you'd help them too. Sit down."
Mel groaned, but she took Harry's paper and started to review it.
"Thanks a million, girls," said Harry, rubbing his eyes.
"Yeah, shut up," Mel grumbled. "Don't interrupt me or I'll mess it up."
Tumblr media
"Hermione, you are honestly the most wonderful person I've ever met, and if I'm ever rude to you again —"
"— I'll know you're back to normal," said Hermione.
"Harry, you really have to pay attention to the things you... Harry?" Mel looked at the boy, who was now crouching next to the fireplace.
"Er — Harry?" said Ron. "Why are you down there?"
"Because I've just seen Sirius's head in the fire."
"What?" Mel dropped to her knees as well, pushing the essay aside.
"Sirius's head? You mean like when he wanted to talk to you during the Triwizard Tournament? But he wouldn't do that now, it would be too — Sirius!" Hermione squealed.
"I was starting to think you'd go to bed before everyone else had disappeared," The man grinned. "I've been checking every hour."
"You've been popping into the fire every hour?" Harry laughed.
"Just for a few seconds to check if the coast was clear yet."
"But what if you'd been seen?" said Hermione in horror.
"Well, I think a girl — first year by the look of her — might've got a glimpse of me earlier, but don't worry, I was gone the moment she looked back at me and I'll bet she just thought I was an oddly shaped log or something."
"But Sirius, this is taking an awful risk —"
"You sound like Molly– This was the only way I could come up with of answering Harry's letter without resorting to a code — and codes are breakable."
"You impulsive piece of– You... you..." Mel stammered.
"All that you're wishing to call me, Emily has called me twice already this week," He shook his head. "It's fine, I swear, I just wanted to reply to Harry's letter."
"You didn't say you'd written to Sirius!" said Hermione.
"I forgot! Don't look at me like that, Hermione, there was no way anyone would have got secret information out of it, was there, Sirius?"
"No, it was very good," said the man with a proud smile. "Anyway, we'd better be quick, just in case we're disturbed — your scar. Well, I know it can't be fun when it hurts, but we don't think it's anything to really worry about. It kept aching all last year, didn't it?"
"Yeah, and Dumbledore said it happened whenever Voldemort was feeling a powerful emotion, so maybe he was just, I dunno, really angry or something the night I had that detention."
"Well, now he's back it's bound to hurt more often."
"So you don't think it had anything to do with Umbridge touching me when I was in detention with her?"
"I doubt it. I know her by reputation and I'm sure she's no Death Eater —"
"She's foul enough to be one..."
"Yes, but the world isn't split into good people and Death Eaters. I know she's a nasty piece of work, though — you should hear Remus talk about her."
"Does Lupin know her?"
"No, but she drafted a bit of anti-werewolf legislation two years ago that makes it almost impossible for him to get a job."
"She called him a half-breed during class! I had to bite my tongue to not yell at her!" Mel scolded.
"What's she got against werewolves?" said Hermione.
"Scared of them, I expect. Apparently, she loathes part-humans; she campaigned to have merpeople rounded up and tagged last year too. Imagine wasting your time and energy persecuting merpeople when there are little toerags like Kreacher on the loose —"
"Sirius!" Hermione said reproachfully. "Honestly, if you made a bit of an effort with Kreacher I'm sure he'd respond, after all, you are the only member of his family he's got left, and Professor Dumbledore said —"
"So what are Umbridge's lessons like? Is she training you all to kill half-breeds?"
"No, she's not letting us use magic at all!"
"All we do is read the stupid textbook," said Ron.
"Ah, well, that figures. Our information from inside the Ministry is that Fudge doesn't want you trained in combat."
"Trained in combat? What does he think we're doing here, forming some sort of wizard army?"
"That's exactly what he thinks you're doing," said Sirius, "or rather, that's exactly what he's afraid Dumbledore's doing — forming his own private army, with which he will be able to take on the Ministry of Magic. Mel leading the group, of course."
"That's the stupidest thing I've ever heard, including all the stuff that Luna Lovegood comes out with. Certainly, Mel's good enough to lead the class but to lead an army? That's crazy!"
"So we're being prevented from learning Defense Against the Dark Arts because Fudge is scared we'll use spells against the Ministry?" said Hermione in outrage.
"Yep. Fudge thinks Dumbledore will stop at nothing to seize power. He's getting more paranoid about Dumbledore by the day. It's a matter of time before he has Dumbledore arrested on some trumped-up charge."
Mel remembered her talk with Dumbledore. In a way, he was training her as if she was going to lead an army, but the mere idea was crazy! He'd said it himself, Mel wasn't supposed to take his place, he just wanted her to be better.
"D'you know if there's going to be anything about Dumbledore in the Daily Prophet tomorrow? Only Ron's brother Percy reckons there will be —"
"I don't know, I haven't seen anyone from the Order all weekend, they're all busy. It's just been Kreacher, Emily and me here..."
"So you haven't had any news about Hagrid, either?"
"Ah... well, he was supposed to be back by now, no one's sure what's happened to him– But Dumbledore's not worried, so don't you four get yourselves in a state; I'm sure Hagrid's fine."
"But if he was supposed to be back by now..." said Hermione.
"Madame Maxime was with him, we've been in touch with her and she says they got separated on the journey home — but there's nothing to suggest he's hurt or — well, nothing to suggest he's not perfectly okay. Listen, don't go asking too many questions about Hagrid, it'll just draw even more attention to the fact that he's not back, and I know Dumbledore doesn't want that. Hagrid's tough, he'll be okay. When's your next Hogsmeade weekend anyway? I was thinking, we got away with the dog disguise at the station, didn't we? I thought I could —"
"NO!" They said altogether.
"Sirius, didn't you see the Daily Prophet?" said Hermione anxiously.
"Oh that," Sirius, grinned, "they're always guessing where I am, they haven't really got a clue —"
"Yeah, but we think this time they have," said Harry. "Something Malfoy said on the train made us think he knew it was you, and his father was on the platform, Sirius — you know, Lucius Malfoy — so don't come up here, whatever you do, if Malfoy recognizes you again —"
"All right, all right, I've got the point! Just an idea, thought you might like to get together —"
"I would, I just don't want you chucked back in Azkaban!" said Harry.
"...You're less like your father than I thought," he said coldly. "The risk would've been what made it fun for James."
"That's not fair, Sirius, now you're in danger—" Mel started, but he ignored her.
"Well, I'd better get going, I can hear Emily -or maybe Kreacher, dunno- coming down the stairs. I'll write to tell you a time I can make it back into the fire, then, shall I? If you can stand to risk it?"
"Oh, get out," Mel huffed.
Sirius vanished with a pop, and Mel carefully turned to Harry.
"Don't listen to him, Glas–" She stopped before they nickname could fully leave her mouth. "Harry. He's just throwing a tantrum."
Harry let out a heavy sigh, stood up and grabbed his essay.
"Thanks for the help. I... I appreciate it."
He went to bed after that.

'MINISTRY SEEKS EDUCATIONAL REFORM
DOLORES UMBRIDGE APPOINTED FIRST-EVER "HIGH INQUISITOR"'
Mel visibly deflated on her seat, wondering if this was just another nightmare.
"So now we know how we ended up with Umbridge! Fudge passed this 'Educational Decree' and forced her on us! And now he's given her the power to inspect other teachers! I can't believe this. It's outrageous..." Hermione started.
"I know it is," growled Harry.
"Oh, I can't wait to see McGonagall inspected," Ron said happily. "Umbridge won't know what's hit her."
"I..." Mel shook her head. "I don't even know what to say..."
"That must be a first," said Hermione, "we'd better get going if she's inspecting Binns's class we don't want to be late..."
Umbridge did not inspect any of their morning classes, and Mel was surprised to see an E on her potions essay, graded as if it were her actual O.W.L. examination, which did nothing but to boost her ego even more than her little trick with the fireworks. Hermione was still talking about it with their friends during lunch.
"So top grade's O for 'Outstanding,'" she was saying, "and then there's A —"
"No, E– E for 'Exceeds Expectations.' And I've always thought Fred and I should've got E in everything because we exceeded expectations just by turning up for the exams."
"So after E, it's A for 'Acceptable,' and that's the last pass grade, isn't it?"
"Yep," said Fred.
"Then you get P for 'Poor' and D for 'Dreadful.' "
"And then T," George reminded Ron.
"T?" asked Hermione. "Even lower than a D? What on earth does that stand for?"
" 'Troll,' " said George.
"You lot had an inspected lesson yet?" Fred asked once everyone stopped laughing.
"No," said Hermione with interest, "have you?"
"Just now, before lunch," said George. "Charms."
"What was it like?"
"Not that bad. Umbridge just lurked in the corner making notes on a clipboard. You know what Flitwick's like, he treated her like a guest, didn't seem to bother him at all. She didn't say much. Asked Alicia a couple of questions about what the classes are normally like, Alicia told her they were really good, that was it."
"I can't see old Flitwick getting marked down," said George, "he usually gets everyone through their exams all right."
"Who've you got this afternoon?" Fred asked.
"Trelawney —"
"A T if ever I saw one —"
"— and Umbridge herself."
"Well, be a good boy and keep your temper with Umbridge today. Angelina'll do her nut if you miss any more Quidditch practices."
"Don't worry about that," Harry gave her a sort of sour look. "Mel will take care of that."
The girl barely looked up from her plate to glare at him, that particular morning she didn't feel like fighting, not after the way Sirius had talked to him.

Sbi&co: D&D AU: Rivals and Friendships
New chapter POG! This has been a long time coming, friends! I do hope you enjoy <3 Lemme know what you think, and as always thank you so so much for reading!! <3
If Dream had to be honest, he’d say that this team seems to be quite fun.
They appear to be very close friends, from the way they rely on each other and joke around despite the huge Cloaker trying to wrap around the bard hurling insults at him. He does also remember the kid, the one he’d seen at the training grounds, and he’s happy to say that he was wrong to doubt his place in the tournament - he can surely handle himself quite well, and on top of that he clearly has a well established supporting structure built around him.
While the tiefling makes sure to make light of the situation, no matter how much he gets thrown around, Dream still remembers how he’d stepped between the younger teammate and danger before; the half orc greatly respects that, heaven knows how many times he's stepped between something aimed at Sapnap and vice versa.
On top of being a well oiled machine, this team also knows what they’re doing, both in terms of fighting and in terms of performing; he can’t deny how he’s been at the edge of his seat ever since they first entered the stadium, despite how his body is still a bit sore from fighting a Barlgura earlier that day - who knew ape-looking demons could hit that hard?
Sapnap's voice has been turning rougher and rougher too: he had been yelling insults at their opponent all fight, and now he hasn't stopped loudly whooping once ever since he'd seen the kid swoop into the stadium looking like a bolt of fire - the two of them would probably get along, if given the chance; that or they'd murder eachother after just a handful of seconds.
The only thing that's missing from this party is their fourth member who, if memory serves him well, is a rogue - the tall hooded figure he'd seen hanging around with the (maybe?) two tieflings.
He has been seeing the Cloaker they're fighting flinch back from ranged attacks that seemingly come out of nowhere, but as of now they haven't shown themselves yet. Either that or their fourth party member is constantly invisible, which George has assured them would be a pointless waste of arcane energy - Dream and Sapnap agree that it would still be very cool, but they have a mutual agreement regarding trying to stay on the wizard's good side, since they convinced him on sticking around after their round to watch everyone else instead of going to rest.
He is in fact in the process of turning towards George - he'd seen the tiefling kid surround himself in flames ever since the start of the fight and he wanted to ask if that was a common tiefling trait - when a light blue reflection catches his eye. A figure leaps from a stone pillar and disappears mid flight, as if vanishing in thin air, and reappears over the Cloaker's body, since the beast had managed to free itself from the arcane shackles that held it firmly to the ground.
In line with the dark, hooded figure that he’d seen that day at the training grounds, the stranger lands in a crouch, surprisingly stable, cape flowing behind them in a way that almost feels too elegant for the yelling-filled dirt stadium.
One raised hand holds what seems to be a weirdly shaped dagger - it’s a bit too far away to see correctly - before it plunges into the beast’s back, tearing a furious cry from it as it shudders in pain. Its movement jostles the figure around, but they don’t seem to care that much, holding steadily their ground - it awakens old memories of afternoons spent training and refining balance with Master Calvin, because what good is a fighter if they can get knocked on their asses at the first kick in the shin, but he figures the stranger might have served on a ship. After all, that is where Master Calvin picked that important lesson from.
The Cloaker, evidently not glad to have a knife stuck to its back, decides to take matters into its own … wings? and wraps them around its body before quickly and sharply twisting on itself, probably intent on flinging the hooded figure away.
And in its defence, the figure does get thrown off, but as their body flies up towards the sky, it follows a weird trajectory - a hand suddenly grabs his bicep as Sapnap lets out a breathless “holy shit”. That’s when he notices the thick chain the stranger is holding onto, and the weird curvature of the “dagger” they used suddenly makes a lot of sense.
He can’t help but laugh as the figure folds on themselves in order to sail towards the ground, the chain wrapping itself around the Cloaker - whose wings are still wrapped around itself, leaving Dream to wonder how much preparation went into that, or if the four of them have travelled the Underdark and fought one before.
Back on the ground, the kid is hopping from one foot to the other, staring upwards as his teammate descends; he then starts running and leaps, definitely more than should be possible, and grabs the figure’s leg as the chain is starting to curl back upwards, guided by its own momentum, furtherly pushing it forward.
The two struggle for a moment as the kid climbs his teammate’s body, reaching the chain himself moments before the other lets go; then, with a sudden burst of flames, the tiefling pops out of existence, only to reappear a split second later once again over the Cloaker’s back.
But Dream misses what happens on that side of the battlefield, because his eyes follow the movement of the cloaked figure as they fall - he expects somebody to catch them, to throw a spell to prevent them from crashing to the ground, but it never happens: the stranger lands on their feet and immediately propels themselves forward, rolling on the ground and quickly standing back up, as if they hadn’t just fallen from way too high up, and unsheathing a stunning looking shortsword.
Before he can stop himself, Dream hits Sapnap’s side with his elbow, eyes wide open because he is so sure. He know that, he’s seen that move so many times it’s been seared into his brain - his ankles still ache with the phantom pain of trying to achieve that specific landing technique.
Master Calvin’s pride and joy-
“That’s him- Sap!” He whispers in a hush, urgently patting his best friend’s side, trying to catch his attention; the beast’s angry screams are loud now, the chains around its body red and flaming, constricting its movements as it slowly descends to the ground again, thrashing against its restraints, but Dream can’t find it in himself to care about it that much at that moment, eyes trained on the cloaked figure that he’s heard about for years and years of training.
Still, Sapnap doesn’t look, all of his attention focused on the actual fighting happening, giving a questioning grunt before yelling out in glee as the Cloaker crashes to the ground, its tail lashing out wildly and almost crashing against the bard’s body. So Dream insists, quickly pinching his side, instantly finding himself face to face with a very unamused monk.
“What the fuck?!” Sapnap asks indignantly, only for his brows to furrow in confusion at his friend’s elated expression, Dream leaning forward to whisper urgently:
“That’s Techno.”
He waits for him at the exit.
He doesn’t really know why he does, since they will be both tired and beaten up - he’ll still surely be high on adrenaline after his team’s quite honestly glorious win - but he doesn’t really want to wait, he can’t really find it in himself to do so.
And also, he does it simply because he can. All participants have access to the same parts of the stadium, so there is nobody trying to stop him and Sapnap as they move towards the exit. Well, of course there are guards that check their identities, and guards that watch over all corridors. But still. Nobody stops them or questions them while they wait.
Loud chatter and laughter announces their incoming arrival - a bright, almost wheezing laugh is almost completely covered by a strong and high voice quickly recounting “that absolutely badass move I pulled, they’ll be talking about it for years, you’ve got to write a song about that!” - and when they turn the corner and appear at the end of the corridor Dream can’t help but feel himself stiffen.
Either from the sight of his hooded … rival? from across the corridor - he looks definitely much taller now that he’s not so far away - or from how the druid’s eyes zero on him instantly, pinning him down with a neutral stare and a cryptic smile.
“And the jump! Why don’t you use that spell more often, I love it so very much... Ph- I mean Flinar?” The kid stumbles on his words as he notices the elf has stopped laughing, following his eyesight with a confused expression that turns even more perplexed when he sees him and Sapnap standing there, evidently waiting for them.
“Oy! You two got a problem?” The kid asks, loudly, shooting looks towards the guards - counting them, making eyesight as if to check if they’re on a specific side, the kid has evidently been through some stuff - so Dream raises his hands placatingly, displaying the lack of weapons in his hands.
“No problem at all! Just wanted to congratulate you on the fight, it was spectacular!”
Behind the kid, he sees Techno’s shoulders sag with a silent sigh before he steps forward.
Oh, so he does know him.
It’s actually quite sweet how the whole group moves as a single unit, following behind Techno despite the fact that he probably intended to be the only one getting closer to the two of them.
Dream forces himself to display a relaxed attitude as he moves to meet him halfway - which he is, relaxed, he is calm, he has nothing to worry about, there’s nothing as normal and boring as meeting one of the best fighters there is in this whole region.
Up this close, Techno is definitely taller than him, which is something that doesn’t really happen much, with Dream being a half orc; once again, that has no effect whatsoever on his mood, nor the confidence he has regarding this meeting. The positive thing is, being shorter than him allows him to have a clear view of his face under the hood - if he hadn't been sure before, the bright blue eyes, pink toned skin and tusks would have surely confirmed his suspicions.
“I’m Dream, this is Sapnap. I assume I shouldn't be naming any names, right?” He quips, a smirk on his face that gets slightly bigger when the shifter in front of him huffs out a silent laugh, apparently amused, and extends a hand towards him.
“Jerry.” He grumbles out, prompting Dream to use all of his existing willpower to avoid laughing over the clearly fake name as he grips his hand in a handshake; Sapnap has much less restraint, bursting into a wheezing laughter and doubling over - he swears he hears the bard snort a laugh too, but when he looks at him his face is blank.
“So, who is this?” The kid asks, looking puzzledly between the two of them.
“One of Calvin’s students.” Techno answers quickly, prompting an understanding “oh” from the young tiefling, before pinning Sapnap down with a calculating look.
“And I guess you trained with Fruit.” The monk nods with a grin, turning his face towards the youngest of the group.
“I loved your fire tricks, I deal with fire too.”
“Well, mines are definitely better.” The kid replies instantly, so sure of his words that Dream is immediately wheezing, leaning onto Sapnap for support as the monk gapes, shocked.
“Oh my- Oh Sap you just got destroyed by a child!” The half orc wheezes out, which is an even worse choice because the kid explodes into literal fire, flames licking at his body as anger fills his eyes.
“I am NOT a fucking child!” He yells out, furious, but what frightening factor he could have had is very much dampened by how the rest of his team is laughing about it - the bard, which at this point Dream is half convinced must be the Wilbur Soot, is vehemently agreeing, laughing as he insists that yes, that is a child, a youngster, and the two quickly lose themselves into a heated debate.
After a moment, the druid steps in - that’s gotta be the Wandering King; they’re in the presence of legends, watching them squabble with a tiefling kid, shaking hands and playfully trading quips - placing a placating hand on each of the two tieflings’ shoulders and prompting their fighting to quiet down.
“We should be going, it’s late and we need to rest. It was a pleasure to meet you two.”
“Likewise. We’ll see eachother on the battlefield, then, I assume?” Dream asks, shooting Techno a glance; the man simply raises an eyebrow, crossing his arms over his chest.
“If we must.”
With one last chuckle, Dream turns on his heel, him and Sapnap moving back towards the viewing stands where they had previously left Eret and George.
“We’re gonna kick your asses!” Yells the kid a moment later; when Dream turns back he’s got a daring expression on his face, but he looks excited - it reminds him of himself, and he can’t help but laugh.
“Not if we destroy you first!”

Hi!! Could I request a RemusxReader fic where they're both teachers who are dating and just spending a really nice evening/afternoon/whatever you choose together? Thank you regardless and have a great day!
Title: Memories
 Pairing: Remus x reader
A/N: Yesss I love this!! Thank you so much, I hope you like it! This also came out slightly sad, I’m really sorry I couldn’t help it (hopefully the happy stuff makes up for it?) Also, for anyone who has sent in a request I’m getting to them! I’m trying to post once a day at the moment but if the requests start piling up then I’ll up it to twice – either way your requests are coming soon!
 Wordcount: 1.3k
Warnings: just a little sad, reminiscing of their time as students and missing their friends. But there’s happy and lovey stuff in their too, no fear!
 Requests are still open!
It was September 1st, normally your least favourite day of the year. You loved your job, teaching at Hogwarts was always fulfilling and seeing the bright new faces every year as they began to discover the magical world really was something that you counted yourself lucky to be a part of. However, it normally meant leaving behind your husband, a Mr Remus Lupin, and although Dumbledore was extremely understanding in letting you leave over the nights of the full moon to look after him, having to say goodbye never got easier.
This year, however, was different. After last year’s utterly incompetent Gilderoy Lockhart had lost his memory (you couldn’t help but feel grateful after having to put up with his antics for a whole year) and with it his position as Defence Against the Dark Arts teacher, your werewolf had been hired as the new professor, and you couldn’t wait to be able to see him every day.
As a returning teacher, you’d gone back to Hogwarts a couple of days early to get everything in order, and today was the day that Remus would be arriving, along with the rest of the students, on the Hogwarts Express (Dumbledore had had a private word with Remus and suggested that, given the recent escape of Sirius Black from Azkaban, having a professor on the train may not be a bad idea). The farewell you had shared a few days prior was much different to the ordinary as your house looked bare, the both of you having packed away many of your belongings.
Looking at the time, you realised it was much later than you thought, quickly changing into your robes and heading down to the Great Hall where you took your place at the staff table just as the students started to file in. Not even five minutes later, a familiar face sat to your right, taking your hand under the table and giving it a tight squeeze.
“How was the journey?” you whispered, having heard rumours as the flew around the hall, but hoping they were simply that.
“Dementors.” He grimaced, neither of you facing the other and looking straight forward, having both decided that there was no need to make it obvious to the students that you were a couple. Not immediately, anyway. “Dumbledore’s furious. I was in a compartment with Harry and his friends, the ones you’ve told me about. He passed out – I think he’s okay now,” he reassured as he saw a look of panic overcome you. You’d taken a very protective role over Harry since he’d arrived at Hogwarts, and he often came to you for advice or an afternoon tea on your arrival – he loved hearing the stories you would tell him all about his parents. “McGonagall is with him, but he insisted for the rest of the journey that he felt fine. I’m sure he’s eaten enough chocolate to make him struggle through the welcome feast.” He chuckled. “But (y/n), I don’t think I believed it when you told me just how much he looks like James. It’s uncanny.” At these last words, his voice had quietened.
You gave his hand another gentle squeeze, turning to look at him. “Acts like him too, Rem. I give it a week before you’re cursing his fathers name all over again.” You grinned, nodding towards the doors where he was walking in and taking a seat next to Ron and Hermione, the general babble of the students dying down as Dumbledore stood up to give his speech.
 …
You knocked gently on the door to Remus’ room, opening it and slipping in when he answered. Although you spent most of your nights together, he had always insisted on still having his own room for the nights of the full moon, saying that he didn’t want to darken any memories of his bedroom, one of the only places he could relax, with his transformations. Knowing that last night had been a particularly rough moon, you as a kitten curled up against Remus for the night as the only form of comfort you could give, you had come back from a quick trip to Hogsmead with arms full of chocolate to get him through.
Spreading out all the treats you had brought onto the bed before him, he moaned gratefully, already unwrapping a chocolate frog. “Merlin, (y/n), I love you.” His expression brightened significantly as your melodic laugh rang through the room.
“Well luckily for you, Professor Lupin, I’m your wife.” You retorted, still not used to his new title, but loving it so much you used it at every opportunity you could. “How are you doing, sweetie?” You asked, stroking through his hair as you pressed a kiss to his cheek gently.
“Bored of sitting in this bed. Come on, I have an idea.” He clambered out of the bed and dragged you from his room, heading through the corridors with a destination seemingly in mind. You kept a hold of his hand, still not wanting to showcase your relationship in front of the students, but knowing that your touch always made Remus feel much more calmer and grounded when he was recovering.
After wandering through empty corridors and climbing many staircases, you arrived in the astronomy tower, a place you would frequent in your younger years. You laughed at the memories, conjuring up blankets and pillows for you both, you sitting down cross legged and soaking in the sun from the windows as Remus lead down with his head in your lap, your fingers absentmindedly stroking through his hair.
“It’s hard being here and not thinking about them, don’t you find?” He spoke up after a while, speaking a thought that had been on both of your minds since the start of the year. “This is where so many of our memories happened, they’re constantly surrounding us.”
“I know, Rem.” You sighed, sad to see him going through something which had bothered you a lot when you were first hired by Dumbledore. “Every room in this castle still has a lingering memory of them, of all of us. It doesn’t go away, you don’t stop forgetting after a while. But, you have new memories that you can think of in those rooms, too. A student coming to confide in you, a prank of Fred and George’s, a rare joke from Minnie.” You both laughed at the old nickname, and about how she had gone from teacher to colleague, a weird balance you were both still trying to navigate. “And there are memories of our time here that don’t involve them, too, you know? I like to focus on our memories, yes they might be tainted now but I’ve got you and I’ll forever be grateful for that. We met here. We fell in love here, we snuck away to this very tower.” You nudged him as his chuckle reverberated through his chest and you could feel his shoulders shaking.
“I might not have been the best at Prefect duty.” He admitted, a blush covering his cheeks. He sat up, facing you and leaning in to give you a sweet kiss, lingering slightly longer than he maybe should have as he dwelled in the memories.
After spending hours in the astronomy tower, the light began to fade and it was time to head to the Great Hall for dinner. You walked through the now much busier corridors, as everyone headed in the same direction as you, side by side, holding each other closely. You had somehow found even more comfort in your love for one another, if that was even possible, and as you walked together, just as you had always done, you didn’t care who saw or who knew.
What you didn’t see was the warm smile Minerva McGonagall was wearing as you passed her office, having caught sight of the two of you, away in your own world as if no time had passed, as if you were still in your seventh year, entranced with each other in a way she rarely saw. She had lost a lot of your friends, and grieved for them too, but she was glad she had the two of you back in your home, where you belonged.
