Do you sketch in pencil or do you just go straight to pen?
thanks for the question! it depends on what i'm drawing!
if i'm just doodling without any plans, i may go straight in with a pen. it's a habit i developed from my school days because i didn't like the feeling of pencil on paper. these are examples of when i just went straight in with pen:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
the first two i drew with felt tip pen and ballpoint pen respectively and left the sketch as the lineart. the third one, i sketched with a ballpoint pen, liked it, and decided to clean it up with white out and add cleaner lineart on top.
now, if i know i'm going to draw something complicated or something i know want to clean up later, i'll usually start with a coloured pencil sketch and then... decide if it's a lines first day or colours first day. you'll usually notice some stray sketch lines because i honestly don't care to clean them all up perfectly. Some examples here:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
usually, i do lines first because that's what i'm used to. also because getting the lines done gets me closer to a finished drawing (a bad habit of mine is stopping once the lines are done). but recently, i've been being too precious about doing lines, so i decided to switch things up and colour first, which has been helping me to not overthink my lines too much.

Back on my Tron nonsense, this time in my regular art style
Don't get me wrong, those no-lineart paintings were fun and all, but this is much more comfortable for me!
I saw this pose on Pinterest and thought: "Oooh! What a good Sam and Quorra drawing that would make!"
Because I do like other characters in this franchise, not just Tron, honest!
though he is my favorite I love him a lot ;-;
It's funny--- seeing the ads for Tron: Legacy as a kid, I thought Quorra was gonna be a character I'd hate. She looked like your typical "I'm not like other girls" female lead in an action movie. But I ended up really loving her in the movie! She was wide-eyed and curious, but also competent and determined! She's so precious!
I'll definitely have to do more drawings of her sometime.
Tron lives!
Drawn using Procreate.

omg what brushes and program do you use?
Oh I'm not sure this answer will be very usefull from amount of brushes listed. I have very few faves actually and mostly like them because they help me circumvent my perfectionism.
So right now I'm using Clip Studio Paint but I've been using Photoshop for a looooong time. Till they pissed me off too much with adobe adobeness. That's why part of my brushes are originally photoshop ones I've ported to CSP.
I mostly do linearts, like overly detailed ones, like this closeup:
Tumblr media
Which I used DAUB FunnyGranny2 and back in PS times (and also now sometimes) I've used Kyle's Drawing Box - Animator Pencil 2016 from Kyle Webster (now available for free with PS as far as I know? still I had bought them ages ago and just ported it to CSP, works ok)
I like those two brushes because they are slightly grainy and aren't 100% smooth which helps me not to be as precious about smoothness. Otherwise I'd be smoothing it over and over again. Also they loose a bit of opacity with lighter touch which I like :)
I also like the Belgian Comics Smoother from Kyle's Inbox. It's very smooth but has a nice shape so I use it for touchups on color flats and lettering.
As for my more recent spiderverse comics of following close up:
Tumblr media
I need to make them quick so everything is on 2000x2000 canvas and is linearted with DAUB - Fluid Ink Chisel 2 set permanently on size 30 so I won't be tempted :D It may not be grainy but I like how it changes it size and opacity with pressure and how it changes it's shape with direction of line.
Besides that I mostly use flat colors (I love the Lasso Fill tool in CSP) and regular soft airbrush too add some gradients.
I don;t use them that often but I also like Mirre's markers + blender if I do some actual shading but I also use Kyle's gouaches then.
And that's about it :)

Your Astarion&Darcy illustrations are SO CUTE! I wonder...does Darcy takes after mommy or after daddy regarding the personality?
Ahh thank you! I love them both very much 😭
D’arcy is very mischievous but overall a very happy lil lad. In terms of his personality I think he has a lot about him that could be traits from either parent, though when he’s younger I imagine he takes after Astarion’s fun/mischievous nature more.
I like to imagine D’arcy has the temperament of a kitten. Playful but is also a keen (but clumsy) hunter. He is as chaotic as you would expect a baby dhampir to be 😭 He rarely sleeps in his own bed and will often “hunt” his parents whilst they sleep which consists of him wriggling his way onto their bed and pouncing on Astarion’s face. The gum bite attack usually follows. For a time I imagined they swaddled him and tied him to their canopy bed so he was hanging upside down like a bat and he slept soundly. D’arcy’s infamous sleeping arrangement was what initially inspired the coffin piece I did for the three of them too!
Thank you all for the D’arcy love. He’s a squishy lil boy and he’s just so precious at this stage of his life. Well, actually, D’arcy is always precious. If you want an idea of what he’s like when he’s older — think of someone like Zagreus from Hades Game. Their personalities line up quite well!
(Also sorry to everyone who thought D’arcy was a girl 😂😭)
Please enjoy a lil bonus of this cleaner coffin lineart update!

How do you manage multiple projects? Like seriously you have verse, seekerquest, and redux and they are all amazing!
Also a side note but I get so freakin excited for new chapters every week, I absolutely love this series!
(Seeker and Verse)
Thank you so much for enjoying my projects! It's a very good feeling to have someone read and like all these things that are so precious to me. I'm just as excited as you are when I post a chapter (and another one's coming tomorrow, to my delight).
As for managing all of them...it's a number of things.
I have a lot of free time thanks to my job, which allows me to work on stuff for a large portion of the day. That's the most major factor - I can afford to be busy creatively all I want, which I know I'm extremely lucky to have as an option. If I were working a 9-to-5, I would not be able to do all of this thanks to how much that would suck out my energy and inspiration. So, blessed be my fortune there.
Besides that, I've figured out how to manage my efforts and time into a pattern. Three days of working on Verse (one day each of sketch, lineart, color), followed by a free day to rest, then back to Verse. Mind that Verse is specifically designed to be efficient and easy to draw/script, so when I'm done for the day I still have energy to do other things - largely, write for Iterum. On my off days, I can get an entire chapter written, but on Verse days, I have to limit myself to a smaller amount of writing.
There's also the fact that...well, honestly, I just really love doing this. It's my favorite thing in the world. It actively feeds me all of the happy chemicals when I'm linearting a page or I've gotten to a chapter I've been really excited to write, so it's something I spend a lot of time doing and feel happy about. Obviously, I have periods of time where I'm not keen to draw or write this particular part, but I've gotten myself disciplined enough to just power through those until I get to the fun bits. That's not to say I don't give myself breaks (no matter what my friends tell you), I just know when I need a break and when I need to be tough and get the thing over with.
I would say that, if I'm to give any advice on how to do two or more things at once, it's "learn your limits". How much effort can you put into multiple comic pages before it becomes too much work? How long can you work on a chapter of a fic before you're exhausted and crash for three days? Can you do a long animatic by yourself, or do you need support? Questions like that are essential to creating without killing yourself - and once you figure out exactly where you can settle down comfortably without giving too much or too little, the sky's the limit. Don't be afraid to take breaks, but don't be afraid to push yourself past that bit of dialog you weren't eager to write. There's a balance there, a sweet spot that you CAN find and will be comfortable in.

Okay so this is from this idea and y’all better be glad I can sketch this piece out. THIS IS JUST SKETCH AND LINEART ALL IN WITHOUT COLOR BUT THE BLOOD IS IN
Tumblr media
And to add more. Crowley sclera turned black out of insanity and his eyes is more spiral mess. He still won’t forget the day his wings were cut off. Or how the person he served his loyalty hurt him and taken what he kept precious away.
Though, he didn’t his exact revenge. He just watched his queen slowly succumb to poison without even batting an eye. He just watched and looked away. Because he lost the will of loyalty. He knew what he did was evil, but then again. His queen taken his wings and sanity. He still cry, but his expression clearly shows he has no emotions over her death. Not an ounce of pity or even a sight of vengeance. Just empty eyes.
He never forgets his blood surrounding him and pouring out, or his tears blinded his sight. He can’t forget them. Nor will he try to.
Now he just makes sure he’s alone when he changes attire. Because he doesn’t want anyone to see his ugly scars that were made so crudely by someone he admired. His mind is in shambles. And he doubts it was ever repaired.

I PROMISE I WILL MAKE A PAINTING ART OF A MESSED UP CROWLEY I CAN DO IT BEFORE MY CLASSES START! AND TO ANYONE WHO SAYS CAP I POSTED TWO PAINTING OVERBLOT ART IN THE SAME DAY YOU TRY TO CALL THAT CAP
Ps yes I did look up very old royalty outfits dates the time the Snow White was based on a timeline for the evil queen look so if she looks familiar to somewhere. It’s called history.

Sekka 2023 - Winterized (Reference Sheet)
It's my tiger rogue! 2023 version includes more integration with the cultural inspirations from traditional Thai and Japanese attire! You can read my thoughts under the cut!
It's been two months since the Guiding Lights have left the Underdark, and it's beginning to become Winter. This is the coldest climate Sekka has ever experienced in her life, and she decides to stop shaving her head, and let her hair grow out a bit longer. Since copper is sacred to her tribe (or "streak", or "clan"), someone must be deemed worthy before being given any copper to wear. It represents someone's trust, love, and loyalties, and removing someone else's copper (or just their jewelry in general) is seen as a major offense and grounds for self-defense; her streak views each piece of copper as a piece of themselves, inherited from someone that cares about them. The Guiding Lights' adventures in the Underdark had driven Sekka to the edge with the kinds of enemies they were facing. With new copper captured from what she deemed to be unworthy owners, she had commissioned some Dwarves to purify the metal and use it to create some new accessories for her to replace what she had given to her teammates (read as: "newfound family").
Here's what the old reference looked like:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Credits to @stephanoodle for the adorable and badass character art of Sekka <3
Looking at the new reference, there's a lot more that can be spoken about.
Tumblr media
The ear ornaments are little filigree covers which support the back of her ears, held in by simple piercings. The filigree pattern itself is inspired by thai lineart, such as the kranok pattern.
Tumblr media
Traditional Thai clothing also many times features a chain belt made of precious metals like gold. For Sekka, this metal would invariably be copper. I chose a rectangular pattern for the belt because I felt it could represent the silhouettes of people, bound together, like family. The belt centrepiece is a four-petal flower that follows the kranok inspiration.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The pants that she wears is actually just a chongkraben- a traditional Thai garment that when girded, becomes something akin to pants, but when ungirded and left loose, would create a skirtlike silhouette like the sarong. I added a pattern-cut hole through all layers of the chongkraben for a copper ring to be inserted, for her tail to slip through. I especially like this garment because most anyone can wear it, men, women, children, adults, and everyone in between. This indiscriminate clothing with the ability to change silhouettes at the simplest tug speaks a lot to my inner thoughts on Sekka. On the field she is efficient, deadly and brutal, exploiting anything in the vicinity to keep the enemy crippled. These last few months have given her time to reflect and realize that at the end of the day, she just wants to be a normal woman with normal needs, desires, fears, and dreams. I think the chongkraben is a subtle symbol for this duality which she has begun to confront.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Her shirt is also inspired by Thai raatpatan pattern shirts. It filled her need for something that reminded her of home, but also something that fits in both a practical and aesthetic sense.
Tumblr media
The way she wears the shirt is inspired by Meiji-era Japanese clothing. I found it difficult to find many references for this mixing of cultures from an era that was trying to look forward to the future but also not wanting to forget where it came from. One source suggested it was called Syosei or Shosei style, where people of the gentry class who lived in the city would mix both modern western clothing and traditional clothing. I felt it created a very elegant and unique emotion in the outfit and wanted to incorporate that. This becomes especially apparent when she adds the grey kimono over the top of the shirt, tucked neatly under her chongkraben as if it were hakama.
Seeing as it was now Winter and beginning to snow, Sekka decides to take advantage of the spoils of combat that other mercenaries and adventuring groups have contributed to the market. Direwolf pelts and Remorhaz parts seemed perfect for winterizing her clothing. I chose to use the membrane and spines of a Remorhaz as the gaiters and mantle of her clothing as some light protection and waterproofing against the snow and rain. The Remorhaz spines within the membrane also offer a bit of structure similar to whale bones that the Europeans used to structure corsets.
Tumblr media
The silhouette of the mantle (and loosely the body of the cloak) are inspired by the rice-straw cloaks worn in East Asia's history, for example, the mino.
Tumblr media
In the group's adventures along the coast, they run into a shop selling hats. We had all decided to purchase hats to accompany a pirate themed ensemble since we were about to head to sea for the next leg of our journey. I immediately thought about the round hats we had back home that farmers would wear, and also about the Wokou pirates of Japan. I felt this was a ubiquitous enough shape to add to her, and I feel it adds quite a bit of edge and an enigmatic presence to the new design. Especially with the attitude of the angle she wears her hat.
Included in each diagram is also a notation for the amount of tail she had amputated from her backstory, and the reason her tailcap is present.

Alright I apologize for lack of actual content minus reposts as of late, creative block sucks cuck. But I guess that gives me an excuse to share more of what I've cooked up for the Double Lester AU/The Son of the Priest!
-The books have their own titles in this to seperate them from the OG. A Fallen God's Plea, The Wrath of Neos Helios, Blood Moon Rising, and The Last Trial all correspond to, respectively, The Hidden Oracle, The Burning Maze, The Tyrant's Tomb, and The Tower of Nero. You may notice The Dark Prophecy isn't here, that's because I can't think of a good alternative title for the story told in the AU version, it might just stay the same idk yet.
-I'm aging up Meg just a little, to 14 from the start. I confess I do this because it's hard for me to keep Meg in character, so I'm going the cheap route to make her a bit more flexible to me. Don't fire me pls I'll try to keep her close to canon
-Nifty idea I had while doing my notes for Blood Moon Rising: Lester progressively becomes more ghostlike as Apollo's infection worsens (since the Body-Soul Link connects them.) At first, it just makes Lester's veins more purple and it more difficult not to break into his true aoroi self, but over time he simply can't go back into his human state and has to keep a tight handle on himself so as to not attack people. His aoroi appearance has a distinct violet tinge instead of pale blue, and the poison in him (well, more Apollo) shows as glowing lavender veins, much like if you injected glowstick fluid in your bloodstream. By the time we reach the end with Tarquin, Lester is struggling so badly not to give in to the violent urges, Tarquin's beckoning to join him, and the amount of pain he's in, but he pushes through everything knowing there's still that smallest chance of help... of hope.
-I AM SOOOO excited to get to Nero and Python. Netos death won't be so anticlimatic- if fact he goes out with a bang- and Python... well for one it's serious Lester abuse ouch, but it's the peak of Apollo and Lester's character arcs. Neither of them are afraid to face Python because they have each other and aren't alone. They aren't afraid to die, hell Lester just goes into Badass Mode the whole fight, a stark contrast to the wimpy coward we met at the very beginning of everything. He does everything he can to assist Apollo knowing damn well there is no chance of him surviving the battle. The lil fucker just refuses to die.
And that's before I get to Apollo. He feels horrible knowing Lester is almost guaranteed to die in Delphi, and he will not let him. He will do whatever it takes to save Lester from the fate Python bestowed on him, consequences be damned. He's willing to die for Lester, and Lester's willing to die for Apollo. That's what love does bby
-A snippet of the many abilities of the Body-Soul Link is that Lester, on a few occasions, can actually SORT OF see Apollo's true appearance. In reality he looks like a fuzzy, glowing gold 3D lineart and his face is really hard to make out, but Lester's Mist-piercing vision helps him a bit... and he gets flustered every time. "A-am I gay now?"
-also Lester, despite his temper, is such a sweetheart to everyone hnngh too precious. For one, he's such a big brother to Meg, he cried when Meg said she sees him and Apollo as siblings. He gives back to the poor. He cares about nature. Fuck I can't wait to this precious little bean to yall aaaaaa

Hi! I am absolutely obsessed with your art; it's vibrant and expressive and just all around stunning. I have always wanted to be able to draw and make fanart, but every time I try it ends up a hot mess express. Do you have any tips/resources for learning? Do you think it's something that you can get good at, even if you don't have any real natural ability?
Aaaa thank you for your kind words! I'll do my best to offer some tips that have helped me over the years:
Create some mood boards
This is one of my fav things to do. It's different from gathering reference images, which you use to draw from specifically like when you want to get a certain pose right. Mood boards are more about finding images that invoke a certain feeling you're trying to express. Here's an example from a project I did a while back:
Tumblr media
These are essentially ways to gather inspiration. You can look at the similarities between each of the images you chose and see if there are any connections you can draw. This gives your work a good starting line to come back to if you start to feel lost.
This can also be a great way to determine what types of art styles speak to you, and how you might like to emulate certain features in your own work. I grew up watching anime and would try to emulate the styles of Rumiko Takahashi and Hiromu Arakawa for example. Don't worry about being derivative at first. You'll eventually find your own voice through a variety of influences.
Start by working on understanding shapes
Drawing gets much less overwhelming as you learn to break things down into basic shapes. My one friend suggests drawing Pokemon as an exercise in determining how simple shapes build form. When you try to go right into drawing lineart first you start focusing on the details way too early and you can get into a stop-and-start that seems to go nowhere. People will also talk about the importance of silhouette. This essentially means you want your character to be recognizable by their shape alone. Cartoon styles particularly excel at this (Steven Universe is a really good example) but different art styles will adapt to this with varying success. This is still something I've been working on even after all these years and it's tricky, but it helps you think about diversity when you're drawing.
(These are some old examples from art school I did. They aren't great but they give you the idea lmao)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Keep a sketchbook and draw big
Keeping a sketchbook is the best. Put everything in your sketchbook and absolutely don't be precious about it. Blank pages are intimidating I know, so if that's stopping you one thing I do sometimes is start by drawing on sticky notes and pasting them in. Add anything you think is interesting - quotes, cutouts from magazines or fliers, cute snack packaging, etc. Anything that you like!
My friend also suggests taking up space in your sketchbook by drawing big. A lot of artists start small little sketches and get caught up in details. They start pages they don't like and move on without adding anything else in because they feel insecure. Don't worry about that, details can come later. And you can always draw over stuff you really don't like. You can paste stuff over it and draw on it again. You can use tracing paper to draw over something 5 times. There's lots of options to try before discarding a page all together. I find this helps combat feelings of discouragement when you're paging through your book. If all you see are abandoned sketches it can get you down. So don't give up!
Don't allow yourself to get precious about your sketchbook, no matter how many aesthetic sketchbook tiktoks you're forced to endure lmao. Sketchbooks are places for failure and experimentation. Let it be ugly. There's value in that too.
Draw both eyes at the same time
I still forget to do this but it really helps cut down on fucked-up-other-eye syndrome. Try not to fully draw one eye before you start the other one. Determine in your sketch phase where the character is looking and try to build on that, going back and forth between each eye until you're satisfied with them both.
Here is a comprehensive list of tips and tutorials my friend found here on tumblr too. I took a look through them and I think there's a ton of great stuff here.
Anyone can start to draw at any age for any reason. I think some people develop a knack for things not out of some inherent skill, but by taking an interest in the subject. I started drawing very young but I just stuck with it over the years because I liked it. There's no reason why starting later in life has to mean you can't get good at it. In fact, since your brain is more developed you might pick it up much quicker than you'd expect. Lord knows I've had to un-learn a ton of garbage over the years lmao. Habits die hard right?
I believe in you! Keep drawing! Have fun!

#14 and #16 for the artist ask game!
14. How has your art changed over the years?
Its gotten a lot more fluid, especially once i really started practicing my anatomy- my proportions have improved a lot too. but style wise its gotten a lot more sketchy- im being a lot less precious with my line work
16. What’s the most daunting part of your process? Ex, planning, sketching, lineart, rendering etc
definitely line work- thats why in most of my comics i dont do it lol- i just clean up my sketches with an eraser and go 'good enough'

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO OUR DEAR AND PRECIOUS @floofanflurr!!!
I had the honour of making this piece in collaboration with the amazing @dumbassv32, @humankk, and @powercritter!!! More credits to the collaborators and info about this piece under the cut 💜
Back in April, I stumbled across a beautiful Undertale fic, Heart on the Table. I was instantly drawn in, and a few weeks later, the author, Floof, made a lil discord server for readers!! I honestly could not have guessed what a gift this server would be, but it sure did end up becoming truly special. So!! It just felt right to commemorate our Floofy's bday by illustrating a piece of us celebrating the occasion together!!!!
I've met some of my best friends in this wonderfully chaotic server, not least of all is the spectacular Floof themself.
Floo, you really are something special. Your earnest care, enthusiasm, encouragement, and deep love are such beautiful gifts to all of those around you. You make people's lives so much better by just being yourself. I am so grateful every day that our paths crossed, and I feel truly blessed that I get to call you my friend. Thank you for allowing us to celebrate this special day with you!!💜🫂🎉
A few weeks ago, our server started sneakily collaborating on this birthday piece for our lovely friend. This was a real group project!! Everyone contributed hugely by brainstorming with me, sending me references for their character representations, and just offering a ton of encouragement.
When I finished the lineart, I realized I absolutely did not have the ability to take on the colouring, and had hit a wall. But then along came the spectacular @dumbassv32 , who did the INCREDIBLE colouring. I literally could not have done it without em. Ey brought all of us to LIFE with their art, and it was incredibly delightful to work with em!!!!!!!
@humankk proposed adding the skelefamily from Heart on the Table in the background. I wasn't able to figure it out, but then KK went and drew and coloured them!!!!!! I added them into the image and just adapted KK's drawing. I couldn't have come up with how to add them in, KK you are a legend!!!!!!
And then... in the midnight hour... @powercritter went and added the absolute abomination of a hot dog into our resident server Napstablook @rhubarbsdad's head. The Breakfast Dog sins have now been immortalized. Bless.
Thanks so much, y'all - we did it!!!

Alright. I am no coward. I ain't gonna hide behind anon mask. I am sending this ask so everyone can see what I wanna say.
This community doesn't have as many artists, because we're not very large fandom, and each and everyone is precious to me. That goes out to fanartists, fanfic writers, mood board creators, craft creators (you all should check out Millie's RA crochet work) and others.
But today I wanna focus on you Howls. I appreciate your art very very much. Before I rejoined, I lurked around and your art was one of the things that made me smile. It still is. You have no idea how much eager I am always for notification "burnin0akleaves just posted a photo".
I love how heartfelt your art is. Every line you do is drawn with love for what you do (or horniness for Will Treaty, I love both). And that is the most beautiful thing about your art to me. I can feel your smile and enthusiasm in every piece you do. And I don't think it's just me. I think it applies to a lot of people. Not only do you supply us with beautiful art but also with the love that seeps from every brush of the pen.
To me, your RA art is one of the most fundamental and it creates beautiful memories for me of this fandom. And your RA is something absolutely ethereal and I recommend EVERYONE to go check out your other art. (Y'all just crush into Howls' dms like doom truck, he'll be happy)
I love your style so much. I love how you can combine strong expressive lineart with smooth brushes when rendering. I love the way your characters' eyes are always so alive, so expressive, so full of soul. And I absolutely adore the ingenuity of your art, the ideas you have. I admire your art so much and it makes me really happy to coexist in this space next to an artist such as yourself.
To me, you're intergral part of fanart soul of this fandom and I am so much honoured to be part of it when you're here.
I'm literally so dumbfounded right now I don't know what to say. This is one the sweetest messages a person has ever taken the time out of their day to write to me, which makes perfect sense actually considering how sweet you are as a person. Literally one of the kindest and most caring people I have ever met if not THE kindest and most caring person I know. I look up to you so much both as a human being and as an artist and it makes me so happy to be one of your close friends. I'm extremely flattered. Blushing a little. Maybe shaking and sobbing too who knows.
Thank you so much for the ask. Normally I'd be too embarrased to post this for everyone to see considering I'm not too good with compliments but I really like the things you said about the fandom and I kind of want others to read it too.
