CLARISSE LA RUE SHOULD HAVE BEEN MORE THAN A FUCKING GLORIFIED BABYSITTER IN THE SUPPOSEDLY BIGGEST WAR EVER. SHE WAS AN EXPERIENCED WARRIOR, A DAUGHTER OF ARES, A CAMP SENIOR, A FIGHTER OF THE SECOND TITAN WAR.

AND ALL SHE DID WAS BE A MIDWIFE AND A BABYSITTER IN THE SEQUELS.

AND GENUINELY FUCK YOU RIORDAN.

No, seriously. Instead of bringing this 19 year old veteran with fighting experience, this established character, he... decided to make up a new child of Mars who’s a 15 year old totally unexperienced newbie.

And this isn’t about Frank as a character, I love Frank, but this one just stands out even more than the others because we already had a child of Ares - who is older and more experienced - so to make up yet another child soldier from scratch for this prophecy was absolute bullshit.

The prophecy of the seven should have featured more experienced characters. Leo, Piper, Frank and Hazel all had literally zero experience in fighting a war and barely any experience at fighting at all! Leo and Piper literally learned about being demigods half a year before the final battle. Frank arrived at Camp Jupiter in May and the war happened in June/July. Hazel had been at Camp Jupiter for a full nine months before the war started.

Introducing a character newly to this world worked with Percy in PJO because Percy had four years of gathering experience and training before his series ended with the final battle, but if you make more than fifty percent of your new main characters who are supposed to carry the brunt force of the war totally inexperienced newbies, you have to stretch out the plot more than literally 7 months total.

Or, you know, not limit yourself to seven characters for a freaking war. Pack that war ship that you built up with actually experienced fighters to back up the seven, because assuming that only the seven who answer the call would fight the battle is the same as if in PJO everyone else had just kicked back and left all the major battle to Percy because he was the kid of the prophecy.

Either way, it is completely ridiculous to me that Clarisse la Rue, a nineteen year old who has been at camp for so many years and has fought the first war as a major key-player, was not just not part of the Seven, but was reduced to midwife duties, which just made no sense at all for this character.
