[ID: two digital greyscale drawings of Jonathan Sims and Martin Blackwood from The Magnus Archives. Jon is depicted as a short, thin British-Pakistani man with many scars, and Martin is depicted as a tall, fat Vietnamese-Polish man with glasses.
Image 1 depicts Jon rescuing Martin from the Lonely in episode 159. Against a cloudy grey background, Martin, washed out, stands with his arms limp at his sides, looking vacantly aside. He is wearing a blazer. Jon wears an overlarge cardigan that fans out behind him as he reaches for Martin’s face with both hands. Many tendrils of negative space curl around Martin, and a few break over Jon’s legs and flow between his fingers.
Image 2 depicts the final moments of episode 200. Jon, unraveling into magnetic tape, floats in mid-air while Martin, standing on the ground, begins to drive a knife into Jon’s chest, cutting the tape. Blood rises from the wound, floating upward, the only color in the drawing. Jon gently touches Martin’s face and supports the arm holding the knife, while Martin sobs through gritted teeth and holds onto Jon’s wrist. The dark backdrop is lit by a beam of light behind Jon, which highlights the negative space between the ribbons of tape that compose Jon’s body. End ID.]
these drawings ended up being parallels of a sort so thought i would share them together for. maximum pain :,) if anyone’s wondering i’m still inconsolable about Them

It's not my fault they put such a cat-coded character in a little kitty cat collar with a little jingly bell, but now I'm thinking about super cute cat-coded Ed prompts!
Ed sprawling out on Stede's lap when he wants attention
Ed napping in the sunlight and getting all warm and cozy. Stede eventually puts a big comfy chair right by the window that gets the best sunlight so Ed can get some quality naps in
Ed curling up in Stede lap when Stede's trying to read or something and immediately falling asleep and Stede just being like "well I can't move now"
Ed thinking Stede's ignoring him so he keeps doing that thing where cats gently touch you with their little paws
Ed curled up on the couch all cozy but he really wants Stede's attention so he just starts going "Stede? Steeeeeede?" in a mournful little voice until Stede gives in
Stede braiding Ed's hair or gently brushing it and Ed getting so happy he's practically purring
Ed getting woken up from a nap by Stede doing chores or something and kind of sleepily following him around the house just because he wants to be together
I was also about to say "purposefully knocking stuff off shelves when he's upset" but he literally already did that

On the string propaganda
Heeellll yeah
Bestie is an entire PLACE
I look at those guys and let me tell you the soul of that thing ain't just in the puppet, it's in all the neurons carrying the thoughts and emotions, it's in the power rails that serve as the heart. All the memories in the memory conflux and all the numbers we see flicker across displays, the flux condensers, the puppet; a little avatar.
No way these massive machines see life the same way we do. They have their own experiences and senses and things they hold dear. A world we can't imagine, a way of living we couldn't even comprehend.
I could never tear an iterator apart to be just a puppet. Who am I to decide how's life supposed to be enjoyed or perceived?
You treat your creechurs however you want- I ain't gonna dictate that. But damn, hearing the thrums and buzzes of the linear systems rail? They are alive with so much power, these mechanical beasts are exactly what they should be.

the thing is though, as much as we all scream Ed did nothing wrong! at each other (and we're right, he didn't), the show itself, I think, does something much more interesting.
It asks us to forgive him.
Yes, he did terrible things. But we are asked to forgive him anyway. Not because he's very sad (although he is), not because he's pretty (he's so pretty), not because he had good reasons for everything he did (he had), not because the lasting damage is honestly neglectable (it is).
Not even because we are getting a very good look into his inner life, his issue, his trauma, his self-image (we do, and if that couldn't make you have empathy for him, why are you even here).
He deserves forgiveness, and healing and love. Just because. Because someone wants to give it to him, because he's worth it. Because sometimes we do fucked up, horrible things, and we are still people, we are allowed to come back from it, we are allowed to have a life after.
In-story, not everyone has to forgive him. Lucius is pissed at him, and that's okay. He's allowed to feel that way. But amid the worst of the pain and violence, Ed is never unsympathetic, because we are meant to forgive him, immediately, unconditionally. In-story, he's worthy of love, and I am so looking forward to him realizing that.
