Yang: Hold on! Then why did you name them after us?

RWB: Yeah!

Jaune:*raises an eyebrow*

RWBY: *stares back at him with a serious look*

Jaune: Are you sure you want an answer? Because I made it clear.

RWBY: YES!

Jaune: Okay. Y'all are reckless. I can't count, how many times, you almost died. And I couldn't do a damn thing about it. In fact, I can't help but feel like I am the cause because I don't bother to grab you by the shoulder and tell you to slow down. 

Yang: Oh.

Jaune: Yeah. Ascension is still death. So if you were to die unlike the Paper pleasers, you wouldn't return. You don't come back to life. You're six feet under the ground. And even if you do come back you won't remember me or your life. Then I have to tell your family. I have to live with it. I have to go on. Me. 

Ruby: I didn't -

Jaune: “Know.”? Of course. You never think about it. No one. Not Pyrrha. Penny. Alyx. Nobody! They don't have to live with it! I do! Just like Pietro. Pyrrha's parents. Ren. Qrow and your father.

Yang: But Alyx-

Jaune: Caused me more stress. Betrayed my trust. And almost killed me. One act of good… doesn't make up for years of pain. 

RWBY: *silent and feel bad*

Jaune: I struggled… to let Penny go. Now I have to let go of Alyx. I have to forgive her. And that's hard. It really is. So I think you know now, Ruby, why I got pissed after you spoke of them like they weren't real.

Jaune go's to a monster school au. He is a Human aloud to go because his family His ability and his abundance of Mana. He was never that how to use it the So, despite getting similar results to other students, he uses absurd amounts of manna on stuff that really should abuse that much. Weiss is a vampier, rwby werewolf, yang a dragon, penny a golem, Blake is a werecat, Ren a ghost, Nora a Valkyrie, pariah is a demigod daughter of Aries.

Jaune: Hi, I'm Jaune. Jaune Arc. Short, sweet, and rolls of the tongue. The ladies love it~.

Jaune: ...Okay, maybe they don't now, but they will! Anyway, that's not what I wanted to talk about. See, I kind of need to vent, and this is the only way I really can.

Jaune: But what do I have to vent about? I have a great family, a lot of great friends, and a bright future ahead of me! I just... have to survive until I reach it.

Jaune: ...Let me start over. My name is Jaune Arc, the only son born to the Arc family, who are one of the few families on Remnant with access to mana, or magic. I'm not very good at it, but I'm good enough to not be allowed to go to normal, regular people school.

Jaune: So that's why I'm attending Beacon's Light Academy of Magic, which was explained to me at one of the four "Great Mage" academies in Remnant, along with Atlas's Might, Haven's Garden, and Vacuo's End. It's not so bad so far, since I'm learning a lot at Beacon with my best friend, Ruby Rose.

Jaune: See, Ruby is a werewolf. Yeah. You heard me. Half-human, half-wolf. I don't really know what the story is, since I don't really pry into her business, but Ruby basically has what's called "primal mana," which is magic based on tapping into your most base instincts and emotions, like fear, anger, and hunger. She's usually cool, except on the days that have full moons later that night, then she gets super irritable. She can still go to day classes, but she has to go to the safety bunker before... Well, based on the claw marks I see getting fixed the next morning, it's something super bad. Like, so bad, Weiss can't go to her night classes.

Jaune: Oh, speaking of Weiss, she's also my friend, and I kinda have crush on her. ...Okay, she's not really my friend yet. More of a friend of a friend. But I'm getting there, I think. But it might be best for me to keep my distance from her because the reason I can only see her so few times is because...

Jaune: Look, if someone as flat and uninteresting as romance novel teens can get vampires, why shouldn't I try my luck? You know, besides the fact that I'm Type-O and probably a better meal than a friend to her. Nevertheless, I will keep trying... until she tells me she wants nothing to do with me. Which she hasn't. Yet. But she won't! Maybe.

Jaune: Anyway, being a vampire is kind of a double-edged lottery sword. It's part of something called "genesis mana," or "Blood Magic". Only people of a certain bloodline can access this, but it also curses your family to become some kind of monster, like a vampire, a wendigo, or even a werewolf. And that's why the Schnee family is so picky about who hangs out with who. My dad used to tell me that some families turn away suitors because "certain blood dulls the mana". He also tells me it's stupid, but also stupid to try my luck. Thankfully, he's not here to judge me, and I have friends who're willing to support me, like Ruby and...

Jaune: Oh, hey, Penny. What's going on?

Penny: I have heard about your recent failures with friend Weiss and have been instructed by friend Ruby to cheer you up!

Jaune: (Writes on a napkin) Ruby, I have a command written on this napkin. The command is, "Show me every command Ruby gave." You either tell me the truth, or I ask Penny to eat this.

Ruby: She can say no, though, so there!

Jaune: Penny, would you like to eat this napkin with a command written on it?

Penny: Yes, I would!

Jaune: She's also a really great lie detector. I mean, except for when telling her own lies. That's just how golems are, I guess. Penny is kind of a... experiment Atlas is testing out at Beacon. She's going to be attending here as a way to test if golems are sentient and capable of safely interacting with other people. Why a school full of young adults would be considered safe, I have no idea, but I'm glad to have a friend like Penny around. And as far as I can tell, whether you were born or crafted together with "creati mana," you're still human to me!

Jaune: Uh, I mean people! You're still people to me! Hah... Sorry... Last time I said "human," I got on the bad side of...

Jaune: Yeah, Ruby isn't the only one who can access "primal mana". In fact, it's a lot more common for faunus to access it than humans, for obvious reasons. But unlike Ruby, Blake seems irritated all the time when it comes to hanging out with me. Honestly, she feels more like a friend of a friend than Weiss does with me. Almost every word that I say seems to piss her off, and I don't know why.

Jaune: Hah... Guess I'm just unlucky with girls as friends, since I get along really well with...

Ren: Good morning, Jaune.

Jaune: Any luck last night?

Ren: Not yet. But I did rearrange the recipe in the cafeteria for a healthier meal this afternoon.

Jaune: Ren is a ghost, and he's been haunting this school for the past... I don't really know. But what I do know is how Ren got to where he is now. See, he was human, like me, and before he died in school, he cast a spell that bound his soul to the school.

Ren: Wrong.

Jaune: AGH!

Ren: I was attuned with "psyki mana" and could manifest my soul so I could find my best friend after I died. We were supposed to graduate, but when I finally came to life, she'd already left without me.

Jaune: Wait, you didn't cast a spell or anything?

Ren: In order for me to cast, I would require access to my aura, which was lost in my final moments. But my soul is still present, though it requires time and effort to manifest.

Jaune: ...

Ren: You can just say you don't know.

Jaune: I don't know. But, uh, were you able to get into the office?

Ren: No. Access to the office is protected from every mana variant known to Remnant. Nothing magical in nature, including a ghost, can enter.

Jaune: Geez, that's rough. You know who might be able to help?

Jaune: Uh, well, I was just making my way to class when suddenly-

Nora: Were you attacking this poor girl?!

Jaune: What?! No! It's the other way around!

Nora: HA! Yeah, right! Look at you! You're twice her size and SHE attacked you?

Ruby: You stole my comic book!

Jaune: I did not!

Nora: Oh, really? Hand it over, kid.

Jaune: But-

Nora: HAND. IT. OVER.

Jaune: ...On second thought, nevermind. Valkyries aren't really that helpful, are they?

Ren: It depends on what the situation is. If it's in response to a violent crime, they are merciless and will do whatever it takes to protect the innocent in the magic realm.

Jaune: But if it's a petty crime?

Ren: They... can be a bit biased in who they assist. Unless their opponent is a hostile monster with a weapon, they're not good with delegation and diplomacy. But they do care.

Jaune: Well, you could always ask one, right?

Ren: Unfortunately, no. Valkyries are protected by a specialized armor that prevents the effects of mana. A ghost like me can't even be seen by them, let alone get near one.

Jaune: Dang... Well, best of luck to you.

Ren: Thank you. Also, before I leave, I was asked to find you.

Jaune: Really? By who?

Jaune: Ugh... Great... You ever heard of helicopter parents? Well, with someone like Pyrrha, her helicopter dad comes equipped with a rocket launcher and twin machine guns. And a hatred for any boy that gets close to his daughter. Kind of expected since her dad is the God of War. And when I say god, I mean ALL the gods of war to have ever existed. It's part of her "deity mana," where a very lucky few are literal descendants of the divine. And hers happens to be the embodiment of war, violence, and combat. So not only can her dad kick my ass, but SHE can kick my ass!

Jaune: I don't know how I'm going to survive this school, but hey, here's hoping I can at least make it to graduation!

Childhood

Yang: Okay, what's the craziest, dumbest, or just strangest thing you did as a kid?

Blake: I fell out of one of the trees in my parent's back yard and broke my arm. Probably one of the dumber things I did... that didn't involve Adam.

Jaune: I drew all over the bathroom next to my bedroom with markers. And I tried to get away with it by blaming my little sister, so I wrote her name on the wall.

Jaune: But she was like 7 months old and couldn't write or walk to do it.

Ruby: I almost choked to death on a penny and drilled a hole in the living room wall.

Yang: Weiss?

Weiss: My childhood wasn't eventful... in that manner.

Yang: Right...

Yang: I sat the living room carpet on fire right after dad just put in new carpet.

Note: These are all things I did as a kid, and my family somehow thinks I'm the responsible one.

So this is almost certainly going to be an unpopular opinion for some, but for a long time now I’ve been feeling that the RWBY fandom puts just a bit TOO much stock in the various fairytale/mythology/literary allusions of the characters when it comes to theory-crafting. It feels like people find out that a certain character A is an allusion to another character B from an already completed story and go ‘Well that must mean that Character A is going to turn out just like Character B!’

Which of course completely ignores that these are allusions and references. Ruby Rose might have strong parallels and similarities to Little Red Riding Hood, but that does not mean she IS literally Little Red Riding Hood. Just as Weiss Schnee is NOT literally Snow White, Penny Polendina is NOT literally Pinocchio and Oscar Pine is NOT literally the Little Prince. Ultimately, whatever allusion a character might have comes SECOND to who they are as an actual character, NOT the other way around.

Whatever allusions a character has might inform what could happen to them, but that should still be treated as secondary to what we actually see them do in the show.

For example, I see a LOT of ships in the RWBY fandom that people seem to largely use interpretations of the characters’ allusions as ‘evidence’, rather than what the characters actually DO in the actual SHOW. Like has anyone noticed that discussions of ships like Bumbleby, Renora, Nuts and Dolts or White Rose have historically not involved much interpretation (relatively speaking anyway) of the potential ‘complimentary allusions’ of these characters? Because there is no NEED to, because all the evidence for these ships is right fucking there on the screen. Meanwhile we’ve got ships (and I am NOT naming names) that people will swear up and down are TOTALLY going to be canon for really-realsies where most or even all of the ‘evidence’ consists of people effectively playing some kind of matching game with their allusions. Or saying nothing more than ‘Character A kinda-sorta resembles the love-interest of Character B’s allusion’.

And ALL of this doesn’t even take into account the biggest factor which I keep getting the impression that WAY too many RWBY fans still having gotten the memo on:

The fact that RWBY literally NEVER plays its allusions STRAIGHT.

All the way from minute one when we saw an allusion to Little Red Riding Hood cutting down a horde of Big Bad Wolves, RWBY has ALWAYS been subverting, inverting, flipping, twisting and otherwise playing it’s allusions, references and archetypes literally ANY way but actually STRAIGHT.

Little Red Riding Hood hunts the Big Bad Wolf. Snow White is equal parts Princess AND Knight in Shining Armor. Cinderella is a tragic villain origin story. Pinocchio was always a real girl. The Great and Powerful Wizard Oz is far more powerful than anyone thought, but is ALSO far more of a fraud than anyone thought.

So when people use these characters’ allusions as some kind of rigid road-map to theorize what might happen to them, it’s not just that this detracts from their identity as their own characters; the story itself isn’t even using that map!

I mean speaking personally, that’s what has always made RWBY theory-crafting FUN. Trying to guess how the writers might twist and flip the allusions they’re using. But that also means that the allusions of the various characters simply DON’T actually provide ANY kind of accurate ‘road-map’ for where they might be going. Instead, the best we can do is use what the actual show has actually shown us to get any kind of idea where the characters are headed.

Ultimately, I feel like too often I see that when people are making theories about RWBY characters, they are treating them more like the characters they are based on, instead of the characters they actually ARE.

Oh wow… I said I was going to try and post here more often and tell my theories but I completely forgot to… anyways, is it just me or am being delusional?

And I don’t know if I have talked about this on here before but does anyone notice how Weiss Nevermore summon is possibly greatly connected to Ruby and Weiss relationship?

Like… if you think about it for a moment and just analyze what the Nevermore possibly symbolize/represents (as a great deal of Weiss summons are allusions to something or share some sort of connection or mean something), you sort of just notice that Nevermore is practically directly linked to Ruby and Weiss relationship

(Which makes sense given that Weiss wasn’t really the one to have killed the Nevermore… it was Ruby who cut off its head)

And the way this Nevermore summon connects to Ruby and Weiss relationship symbolically is possibly through it representing Trust, belief, connection, understanding and Freedom (possibly)

(Which again, makes sense for the Freedom part due to how birds are symbolically used to represent freedom)

But the thing that made me think this and made me sort of notice this connection is when the Nevermore is first killed and the slow gradual attempts by Weiss at summoning the Nevermore until her first actual summoning against CC (also some stuff about what Winter said about summoning/the Schnee family semblance back in V3)

And the reasons these make me think of this… well, starting off with the Nevermore being killed

This part is rather simple since It’s the beginning piece of what creates and gives way for Weiss to be able to summon the Nevermore

In the beginning of the finale fight of the Emerald forest arc against both the Nevermore and the Scorpion (brain fart, forgot its name), both Ruby and Weiss sort of come to a small mutual understanding about each other and both chooses to accept and trust in the other

When Ruby comes up with a plan to kill the Nevermore, a plan that Weiss chooses to trust in and chooses to believe in Ruby (and Ruby chooses to trust in and believe in Weiss as well) being able to kill the Nevermore

And this belief in Ruby is quite easily proven true

Now moving on to the bit about Weiss attempts to summon the Nevermore till she truly does in the finale of V10

And before I fully go into depth on it, I would like to say some stuff about how during the atlas arc… Ruby and Weiss slowly got more and more distant from each other due to being too busy, having issues with some burdens, or possibly some miscommunication

And this is important because this is slightly reflected in Weiss first attempt to Summon the Nevermore in order to try and save Ruby… but yet she fails due to not being quick enough in summoning the Nevermore (and partially because of a Grimm attacking her before she could summon), because her connection and sort of understanding about Ruby has sort of… fades a bit due to distance

But this slightly changes come V9, after RWBY reunites

With how Weiss comes to learn and understand a bit about Ruby’s current emotional state and tries her best to help her a bit by trying to talk to her and get her to open up… but fails as Ruby doesn’t want to talk right now and chooses to focus on the task at hand

Something important to note is how Weiss not only understands that Ruby is hurting and something is bothering her… but Weiss also partially misunderstands when Ruby walks away when Weiss is trying to talk to her about Penny… that Ruby wants to be left alone for now and wants to get things handled first before she opens up

And Weiss (believing in that little misunderstanding since Ruby does want someone to support her or talk to her and help her) chooses to trust and believe that Ruby will talk to her and open up to her about what’s hurting her and will rely on her as well as coming to accept that Ruby needs some time

Leading to Weiss being able to almost fully summon the Nevermore but only being to summon the wings and use the wings

But not yet being able to manifest it yet

Until Ruby breaks and Weiss comes to understand and fully realize what was wrong with Ruby and what she needed most

Until the group arrives at Tree statue Ruby and Weiss comes to understand, trust and believe and accept that whoever or whatever comes out of that statue, will still be Ruby Rose

That whoever Ruby chooses to be and comes out as… Will always be Weiss’s partner, leader, and best friend to her

Which once Ruby comes back and once again… proves that belief true

Weiss is fully able to summon and conjure up the Nevermore to help in the fight against CC

But who knows… I could just be coming up with this is or looking a bit too deep… but what are all of you folks thoughts?

Also, I didn’t really get into the “Freedom” part about the whole Nevermore thing and might just make a part two to fully explore it

But to simplify it just to put it in here

The Nevermore represents Freedom because through Acceptance and Understanding, through trust and believing in one another

Ruby and Weiss manages to come together and learn to be free together

Free to choose who they want to become and who they wish to be

Free to follow their own path and define their own name

Free to find joy and love wherever it may be… to be free to find comfort and warmth in friends, family, and partner quite special

Jaune stood on the top of Shade's exterior wall looking up into the star filled night sky. It was closing in on midnight. A New Year was just minutes away, yet he was unable to look forward towards possibilities. His mind was stuck in the past... regrets, and failures weighing heavily upon his soul.

Jaune: It's another year gone, and so much has happened... but it still hurts.

His hand drifted to the red sash about his waist, and he idly rubbed it between his fingers, as he bit his lip.

Jaune: I think you already know, but I have to say it anyway... I lost my chance with you... and then I had to take Penny away from Ruby...

Jaune lifted his hands and stared at his calloused palms. He swallowed, his throat dry, as his eyes grew wet.

Jaune: I've tried so hard... yet I keep failing... I failed you... I failed Penny... I failed everyone. My hands are stained, by the blood of someone I cared about.

Jaune clenched his hands into tight fists, grit his teeth and screwed his eyes shut. Tears rolling slowly down his cheeks. His breath hitched as he tried to force his pain down.

Jaune: I've failed and I've killed. I'm no hero, I'm not worthy or worth being around... I can't... do this anymore...

So lost in his own mind, Jaune never heard her approach. He wasn't even aware that she was beside him until he felt the soft caress of her hand against his cheek. Jaune flinched away from the offered comfort as if he had been struck. His eyes snapping open.

Jaune: Weiss?

Weiss: Jaune... are you okay? Everyone is wondering where you had taken off to?

Jaune: I... I... I just need to be alone.

Weiss: I don't think so.

Jaune: Please...

Weiss: Jaune, talk to me, and if you can't talk with me, then try Ruby, or Ren. Open up to any of us.

Jaune: I can't...

Weiss: Jaune?

Jaune: I keep failing... I feel like I'm still falling...

Weiss: You haven't failed Jaune. You're too hard headed to fail.

Jaune: Pyrrha and Penny would say...

Weiss: Pyrrha took your choice away from you, and while I understand why Penny did what she did... I don't agree with her decision... again the choice was taken from you... you haven't failed, Jaune.

Jaune: Then what would you call it? If I hadn't been so weak...

Weiss: You're not weak, Jaune. Untrained yes, but never weak. As for what I would call what has been happening to you... is others taking away you chance to succeed.

Jaune: Don't humor me... I'm no hero...

Weiss said nothing as she reached up and despite Jaune's flinch placed her hands on either side of his face and gently guided him to look at her. Without saying a word, she rose on her tip toes while pulling softly to bring Jaune's head downward towards her.

Jaune gasped at the soft, loving touch of her lips upon his. As Weiss withdrew from the short kiss, she held him still, her ice blue eyes looking directly into his deep blues.

Weiss: I never said you were a hero, Jaune. You so much more than a storybook hero.

Jaune: I'm nothing...

Weiss: No, right now you are a warrior... who will be a hero. You are not, will you ever be nothing... especially to me.

Jaune: I...

Weiss: I need you at my side Jaune. I WANT you at my side.

Jaune: I...

Weiss: Let the past live in the past. Look to a future with me? Please?

Jaune: But... Pyrrha... Penny...

Weiss: Remember them, cherish them, think of not of those last moments, or that pain. Think on who they were and what they meant to you.

Weiss released his hold on Jaune, and stood demurely before him. Her hands clasped together before her. her eyes never straying from his.

Weiss: We are all here for you Jaune. I am here for you, and I hope you can be there for me... but I can wait if I must. But I need you to promise me, on your name.

Jaune: A promise?

Weiss: Swear to me... promise me... you'll keep moving forward. That you won't ever stopping giving it your all... for you and us.

Jaune: I... promise.

Weiss: Thank you.

Jaune: Weiss?

Weiss: Yes, Jaune?

Jaune: Can you stay here with me... for a little longer? I'm not ready...

Weiss: I can.

Jaune gave Weiss a weak smile and reached out with one of his hands. Weiss didn't even hesitate to take it. To allow his strong fingers to enclose about hers. Jaune looked up into the night sky as he gently pulled Weiss closer, eventually enveloping her in a strong but needy embrace.

Jaune: Do you think... that they... are proud of me?

Weiss: Yes Jaune. They are... we all are.

Jaune: Thank you...

Jaune felt Weiss' slim arms wrap around his waist, as she pressed her head into his broad chest. Just being embraced so softly, so warmly eased his burdened mind... allowing more pleasant memories to push back the regrets he had been holding onto for so long.

Weiss: Your Welcome Jaune, and thank you.

Jaune: What for?

Weiss: Being you.

Jaune looked down at Weiss' shining eyes, a smile smile curled his lips, and unbidden he leaned down and returned Weiss' earlier kiss. When he broke the embrace, Weiss returned his smile.

Weiss: What was that for?

Jaune: It was my promise to you. For the future to come.

Weiss eyes grew moist and she snuggled into Jaune.

Weiss: To the future.

What are your thoughts on WR development overall and your thoughts on WR being developed/made canon in V10?

Ugh I am going to ramble about everything here I can feel it...well you asked for it. I apologize for none of it, and if you all hate me at the end well I don't mind.

Volume 6 and before are pretty much great. They go from kinda at odds to tentative friends, learning to trust, and rely on each other, best friends, pining over one and other and V6 was a loooot of WR for us to feast on.

Afterward I felt like it got sidetracked. There could be various reasons for this (in hindsight I feel like Penny being given a way bigger role so her death could hit harder is to blame for part of this because realistically how long has Ruby known Penny? A month?)

Even if you don't like the ship they're supposed to be canon best friends so I take personal issue with almost all of volume 9.

I think it was sloppy writing that didn't move the story forward, and even though I don't care about Bees I feel like they still got shafted since they basically were forced to confess to move things along, and them doing so made them miss out on the sister/supposed friend and her problems, and only showcased the worst sides of the relationship.

For example Yang let's Ruby scream at Weiss but only moves to do something when Blake gets yelled at. Blake and Ruby still have...less dialogue than Ruby does with Ren I think etc.

Jaune was too present merely because his entire deal took away from Ruby's imo.

I've said it before but frankly Nora falling and learning who she is away from Ren so when she sees him in V10 she's ready for the relationship is far more satisfying to me narratively.

Leave Jaune above ground so he has to deal with the fact that he thinks he failed his friends and they all died and let him learn from that experience instead.

This also doesn't take into account that Jaune's one interesting change in 9 (being old) is taken away via random deaging (although I guess this makes deaging canon and hey young maria this is how dwr can still win! more at 11!)

Generally when characters go through a volume you want some sort of arc for them to go and change through. Weiss gets none of that. Out of all the characters nothing really happens to her, and she doesn't change at all. She's just sad about Atlas. Neat.

There's no time for it just like there's no real time for Ruby.

In Ruby's own words 'gotta help Jaune right?' and they do. Ruby removes herself from the census, which is how its framed, and they stop to...help Jaune.

There are a few moments that are WR'ish in 9. The Nevermore summon, Weiss believing in Ruby, and calling her name first etc, but overall Weiss's main job is to backslide.

I said it before but in the market Neo, the perfect assassin is after Ruby, and they split up. Weiss goes 'gross nosehairs', and ditches her best friend who she already knows by that point is NOT doing well.

This is not Volume 1. This Weiss is not that petty, and she's literally had to manhandle corpses. The fact that she wouldn't stay near her canonical best friend, and leader is asinine, and only happens so she can be alone to meet the smith.

Even if Weiss can't help Ruby fight Neo she's an extra pair of eyes (and Neo doesn't care how crowded it is in the market), and just being there for Ruby can help.

With all that said RWBY is big into symbolism. When WR are together in almost all the side spin off material it means something. Manga Anthologies has them making heart eyes and flirting like every other page. Ice Queendom was a love letter to WhiteRose (precious?). The movies, etc.

When their weapons rest next to each other on screen like the Bees do? It means something. When their flowers break ranks to be near each other (and Weiss's flower is the lily please note)? This means something.

Ruby can stand and jump from missile to missile but has to wrap her arms around Weiss to stay seated?

If Chibi continues it's pattern of predicting things in the main plot then the fact that Weiss is the woodsman in the fairy tale means a loooot as in several versions of that fairy tale the woodsman marries little red after helping her deal with the wolf problem (which varies by the story).

They're the knight and princess for each other. Ruby comes into Weiss's live turns it upside down, and helps her change. Likes her for her genuinely and wants to be her friend at the start. Through this she changes the world for Weiss, and helps her grow, and Weiss in turn helps Ruby be the leader she can be.

But yeah I guess that's just friends things and they should date some guys they've had like a half a dozen lines with instead? I don't get it really.

She and Oscar punch each other in the face, and they talk about strategy. Oscar has a younger kid crush on her, and Ruby is awkward because that's her headmaster in this kids head. Oh right he went in for a hug she ignored. Peak romance.

Jaune and Weiss have almost no interactions, and when he saves her at Haven her response isn't to be like 'omg i love you' it's 'keep doing it i have work to do'. Are they friends now? Sure, but that's about as far as it goes.

It remains that outside of group hugs the only person that's allowed to initiate contact with Weiss almost all the time outside of battle is Ruby.

Ruby knows when she needs help and will guide her away when she needs it, but other people don't' touch Weiss unless she does it first because they know she doesn't like it...except Ruby.

I have tried to look at other relationships for them, and I honestly don't see them as realistic.

Even Penny would need a lot more development to make it work. I get that it's cute and wholesome but they've known each other for again a month, and Penny just defers to Ruby.

Ruby needs a partner and equal not a submissive enabler. That's a relationship you have with a pet, and not a person.

Now if Maria were young and hot that'd be different...

Anyway...

Ruby and Weiss are partners. If they're allowed to have the much needed conversations they never seem to get, ie haven, ever after, Ruby's mom, everything, etc.

Then is it possible? Maybe. If they do go WR I suspect it'll be more hints, and slow ramp up until the final season.

I would expect it either on the eve of the final battle, or literally during it maybe as in Weiss gets feds up with waiting, and decides to do something about it.

More likely at this point is they'll both just end up single with maybe faint hints so fans can imagine what they want for it.

Would I prefer it if it was WR so the team can truly be family? Yes, but I don't even know if we're getting a volume 10 at all to be honest. The fact that it wasn't announced at the last festival, and we get an extended eppy, and then nothing after the last movie?

Not making me feel super confident. I could be wrong though. On many things. Except Young Maria.

Ruby:When they told this volume would have a focus on Ruby’s crumbling emotional state I was excited. I barely get to play with negative emotions often so I was ready! However, I was not prepared for Jaune to have to grow out his hair.

Jaune:Hahaha!

Ruby:Do you understand how hard it is to maintain sad vibes when in rehearsal this guy is walking around in a man bun!?

Interviewer:So the hair was all real?

Jaune:Yeah I originally got a call from Adam who asked if I knew anyone who could pull off an older version of myself. Instantly I went to my dad, however, I did not know at the time my character would be old for the majority of the volume. Love my dad, but he can’t fake act through a volume. Second best option was growing out my hair and hitting the gym.

Adam:We basically shot all of his scenes when he was young at once so long ago at this point. Then during vacation and all that in between volumes this man was obligated to not cut his hair as much as possible. My sister, Coco, did practical makeup to add age as well.

Jaune:Never again.

Interviewer:Fans like the look!

Jaune:Oh I get it. It’s the mainly the beard I wouldn’t want again. All the lights are fire scenes were soooo hot! I was dying!

Jaune: I guess we can always pull a Sun and try to stowaway on something.

Summer: They'd probably execute us if we're found out.

So I will say it would might be hard but what about Harriet as the Rusted Knight stand in. Spending years dealing with guilt and horror of her willing to nuke a city just because she was told too. She could call the Lighting Trailer or something.

(Fun fact! When initially thinking about the major plot threads for the Sharc AU, I was actually going to have Harriet fall into the Ever After, find the time fruit and become the Juniper of the Sharc Universe. I have since decided against that, and feel safe sharing it.)

Harriet: The girl I met had a Brother. Lewis, and he was a lot more nervous and forward-thinking. And a hell of a lot more level headed. Lewis could stub his toe on a rock and he'd apologize to it. Alyx would stub her toe and make a guillotine for whatever tripped her up.

Blake: It sounds like we have a lot to talk about. Uh, do you have a place to stay or ...

My Thoughts On Jaune x RWBY + JNPR Marriage Surnames

This is the... well not follow up since those polls are still live, but just my general thoughts on what happens with the surnames for some Jaune ships.

Now, admittedly the answer to that is partially going to come down to the cultures of Remnant. There are 5 confirmed married couples in RWBY, at least in the main show. Those being Kali and Ghira, Jacque and Willow, Li and An Ren, Terra and Saphron, and Taiyang and Raven.

3/5 have one of the partners taking the other's surname. 1/5 are hyphenated. And we don't know if Raven took Taiyang's last name when they were married, but since Yang is a Xiao Long, we can assume he didn't take hers and they probably didn't hyphenate.

Also, we don't know if Tai and Summer were married or not.

The majority of characters also just have singular surnames, so it seems one partner taking the others surname is the default on Remnant.

With that in mind, I also don't think Jaune would want to give up the Arc name anyways. Since trying to live up to the Arc legacy is a fairly large part of his character. At least in my interpretation of the character.

So let's get into it, I'm also going to link each poll if you want to vote in that.

Lancaster:

I can see the Rose name being important, but not super important to Ruby. Kind of depends on where the marriage takes place in the timeline I guess.

I'm leaning a bit more to Ruby just being an Arc, but I can see them going with Rose-Arc to keep the alliteration for Ruby's name.

White Knight:

Weiss cares about her family legacy as much as Jaune. No way either are giving up their surnames.

Arc-Schnee sounds a little better, so I'll go with that.

Knightshade:

This one definitely depends on when it happens.

If it happens before Blake reconnects with her family, somehow, she'll just be an Arc.

If after, then definitely Belladonna-Arc. Arc-Belladonna just doesn't sound right.

Dragonslayer:

Honestly, I think Yang is just a bit of a hopeless romantic and would just take her partner's surname unless they really wanted to hyphenate it.

So Yang Arc for this one.

Nora's Arc:

I don't really think Nora cares about her surname... at all. So she'd probably just go with whatever her partner wanted to do.

That or she'd want to arm wrestle for it.

Arkos:

Honestly, I think Pyrrha would change her name to be less recognizable. And because she knows how much being an Arc matter to Jaune.

Pyrrha: Pyrrha Nikos? No, I'm just plain old boring Mrs. Arc. Now if you'll excuse me, I have to go try for my 17th child now.

Though I'd imagine whatever company represents her would just want her to keep Nikos.

Martial Arcs:

I can't say I've thought about it much, but I'd imagine Ren would care about his family legacy as much as Jaune.

So I'll go with Ren-Arc.

Bonus Arculus Rift:

Does Penny care about surnames?

I'll just go with a 50/50 on Arc or Polendina-Arc and call it a day.
