Different anon but the leaving Instagram/social media message reminded me of my own struggle with it. I haven't been on IG/FB in years (I do spend time on Tumblr and Twitter though so I'm not cured...) but that's what people in my country still use and where they share information about events and such. How can I keep up with local activities/events without making an account? How do you usually know what goes on your city? Do you reckon I should just make an account for these things? My main problem with them isn't even the addiction, it's the fact that they have so much of my data that creeps me out. Thank you for reading and replying (if you get around to it) ❤️
I’m unsure about your country but in my country we have event apps for the same. Movies, comedy shows, art festivals… all of it is on those apps.
If you live in a metropolitan city, chances are that such websites and apps already exist. I’d recommend signing up for those newsletters - it’s really useful.
For instance, I believe “Guest of a Guest” (website) does such articles and talks about events in NYC (and maybe a few other cities as well). Event Brite is another app (unsure if it’s relevant to you).
A quick google search of “things to do this week” gives me search results of events and things happening around me and my city.
The reality is that establishments cannot rely on just Instagram to publicise their events. They need to put it on other platforms as well. If the pages you followed have a website/ newsletter - well, half the problem is solved.
Now let’s say that you enjoy going to a certain event that takes place every now and then. I’d look up the organiser’s website and contact them and ask if they have a mailing list/ a WhatsApp broadcast list that they maintain for their customers and sign up for it.
Another is reading publications like Time Out magazine. They cover a lot of metropolitan cities and often make lists of the best upcoming restaurants/ bars/ things to do.
Obviously, things differ in every place but on a general note, this is what I would do.

Music Impossible is the new show that will be broadcast on ZDF on Friday, September 2nd and 9th (11:30 p.m. each day). The show will be moderated by Tom Neuwirth, alias Conchita Wurst. We spoke to him about the special format, about his ego and about Lady Gaga.
glüXmagazin: Mr. Neuwirth, what can TV viewers expect from your new format “Music Impossible”?
Tom Neuwirth: The title of the new show is “My song. Your sound” and that says a lot about the idea. Two artistic personalities perform a song from their own repertoire but in the genre of the other. Someone who has already sold more than two million records and is an absolute professional in his field can still quickly become unsure.
glüXmagazin: In the first two episodes you can see pairings of Eko Fresh and Marainne Rosenberg and Doro Pesch and Mike Singer. What do you think of these combinations?
TN: Absolutely cool. During a meet & greet beforehand, I had the opportunity to get to know all four and learn a lot about them. That was important to me. Because i want the personal component to play a major role during the show, I want to be able to talk to the guests about the topics that are important to them.
glüXmagazin: Was it difficult to find musicians willing to experiment?
TN: Of course I wasn't as deeply involved in the planning as the production company. But I know that willingness wasn't the problem, but rather the fact that the artists hardly have time this summer to catch up on concerts and other appointments that have backed up during the corona break. Basically, everyone reacted very enthusiastically to our project and I hope that many of them will find their way into the show in the future.
glüXmagazin: Do you have a dream combination?
TN: Iron Maiden and Lady Gaga are high on my list (laughs). I think I'll send her a WhatsApp and then we'll see what happens. You want to keep growing and evolving. But seriously: I would be very happy if we managed to realize a complete season. Perhaps in the medium term it will also work to expand the offer to Austria and Switzerland.
glüXmagazin: Have. Have you actually thought about who you want to address with your show?
TN: To be honest, no. I don't think about who I want to approach. Of course it's great when we address a lot of people and when everyone who tunes in feels entertained. In my egocentrism I do everything I do, first of all for myself. I want to have fun, be open, absorb everything. That's how I generally approach everything, in my shows, but also in my music.
glüXmagazin: Would you consider yourself a lucky person?
TN: At worst, I'm optimistic and diplomatic. And if I'm in a bad mood, then it usually has to do with myself, then it's about questioning myself first. In this way you also get close to your own ego.
