Loki x Reader - Glorious Purpose - Words: 2,578
Based on this prompt:
Enemies-to-lovers, but instead of featuring a villain redemption arc, the heroic one is getting progressively more corrupt, unhinged and fucked up, and the one who was originally the clear-cut villain out of the two is just like "well mark me down as scared and horny"
You were a somewhat independent agent, but officially you worked with SHIELD. Fury had recruited you although you had yet to move back to New York to be closer to everything. At the moment, you were enjoying an extended stay in Europe. It had started with a small mission and you decided to vacation for a while, take a well deserved break.
"Champagne?" A waiter asked you. You nodded, taking a glass from his tray before he continued on. You'd managed to get yourself an invitation to a gala in Stuttgart and you weren't one to pass up free food and wine so you went. Your gaze floated across the room and you resisted the urge to roll your eyes. Everyone here had the same look: stuffy, stuck up, money coming out their-
"Pardon me," A man said. He walked up behind you, bumping into you accidentally.
"It's fine," You said automatically. Looking up at him, your eyes widened slightly. Now he was handsome. He smirked at you and you opened your mouth to say something but he turned away. Unfortunately, just as quickly as you had seen him and he had already gone. You wandered around for a few more minutes before the guest speaker walked out. You worked your way to the front of the crowd to listen to him. Even with your heels though you weren't tall enough to see over everyone. Suddenly you looked up, seeing movement on the stairs. For a moment you thought you'd see the man from earlier walking down. "Is he another guest speaker?" You wondered. Before you could get any closer to get a better view, you heard screaming. And then everyone started running. You finally elbowed your way to the front and saw the mysterious man walking away from the guest speaker who was now lying unconscious across the big fancy table. You ignored the speaker and chased after the dark-haired stranger. He had a dark smirk painted across his lips. Just before he walked outside, there was a bright glimmer around him and his sharp suit transformed into golden and leather armor. "A bit much," You thought with a silent chuckle. To get a better view, you transported yourself next to a small souvenir booth, watching as he approached the terrified crowd. Duplicates of his suddenly appeared around the edge of the crowd, including one only a few yards away from you.
"I said, KNEEL!" He yelled, slamming his scepter on the ground. The crowd immediately followed his orders. Your phone in your pocket buzzed and you discreetly checked it.
Are you still in Germany? - Fury

You pocketed your phone and walked out, skirting the crowd and making your way to the mystery man. The real one you assumed.
"Is not this simpler?" He started. "Is this not your natural state? It's the unspoken truth of humanity, that you crave subjugation." He spoke eloquently, not surprising you all that much considering his attire. Although his phrasing confused you slightly. It was as though he wasn't speaking to fellow humans. You supposed most men who considered themselves superior often did so though. "The bright lure of freedom diminishes your life's joy in a mad scramble for power, for identity. You were made to be ruled. In the end, you will always kneel."
"Not to men like you," You spoke up, having snuck up beside him. He smirked, walking towards you and towering over you.
"There are no men like me," He gloated. He reached out to grab you but you ducked and ran behind him. Whipping around he held his scepter out, pointing at you. "Let her be an example to you!" He yelled to the crowd. As he shot, the Captain dropped in. He stood in front of you and blocked the blast with his shield.
"I didn't need that, Steve," You hissed.
"Just shut up and help me," He replied. You rolled your eyes and teleported to a more strategic location before Mr. Gold and Leather noticed.
"You know, the last time I was in Germany and saw a man standing above everybody else, we ended up disagreeing," Steve said. You rolled your eyes.
"We get it, Steve, you're old!" You yelled. Sometimes Steve got on your nerves. The man turned to you but Natasha quickly distracted him. She was flying the quinjet above, aiming a machine gun at him. They continued fighting and you watched the movements of the stranger, looking for a weak spot.
Suddenly you hear loud rock music blasting over the PA. Just before Iron Man swoops in, the music preceding his actual appearance, you see your chance. "Over here, pretty boy," You call out, your smirk almost matching his. As he approaches you, you whip out one of your knives from your thigh holster, twirling it in your hand.
"Oo, feisty," He grins. He points his scepter at you, about to touch your chest with it, when you teleport behind him. In the split second of his confusion, you jump up, grabbing the horns of his helmet, and kick him in the back of his knees. He falls back and you duck out of the way, letting him land hard on his back on the ground. He lets out a huff as the wind gets knocked out of him and you quickly stand over him, planting a foot on his chest. You know he could throw you off easily but you're holding a knife to his throat as well so you take your chances.
"Your turn," You say. He holds his hands up, his armor glimmering once again before revealing a much simpler outfit. You shook your head, still confused as to where he was from. This clothing was obviously not bought at the local department store. Once the team had restrained him and loaded him into quinjet, you wandered over to him, watching him closely. Cap and Stark were passive aggressively talking off to the side, as if the stranger couldn't hear them. You shook your head and walked over, taking a seat next to him. "Hi," You said with a small smile. "What's your name?" He raised his eyebrows in surprise.
"You do not know who I am?" He asked. You shook your head and chuckled.
"You're a well dressed man who apparently wants to take over the world. That's about all I know. Fury never tells me anything so I'm flying blind here."
"I am Loki of Asgard," He grinned. He was about to launch into his "Glorious purpose" speech, when thunder and lightning rattled loudly outside. Loki got a frightened look on his face, trying to look outside from his seat.
"Are you ok?" You asked. Loki's head whipped back to you, eyes staring into yours.
"I-no," He admitted, something in his eyes .
"What's the matter? Scared of a little lightning?" Cap asked Loki.
"I'm not overly fond of what follows," He said. As he spoke you finally figured it out.
"Your brother is Thor!" You exclaimed.
"Unfortunately," He replied as the God of Thunder himself landed on the roof of the plane. When Stark opened the back hatch and Thor landed inside, you frowned, nose scrunching in disgust.
"Oh my gosh what a himbo," You mumbled. Loki stared at you for a moment, eyebrows raised in surprise, and opened his mouth to say something but was swiftly yanked out of his seat by his brother.
You didn't see Loki again until the Helicarrier. Up until that day you'd never doubted Fury even though you didn't like working with others, but suddenly you weren't sure who to trust. Stark and Banner thought Fury was up to no good with the Tesseract and, while Steve didn't want to agree with them, he just confirmed their theory. You just helped him break into the storage room and we're staring at each other in shock.
"Weapons. Fury is making weapons. That lying-"
"Ok," You sighed, interrupting the Captain's exclamation. "Get this back to Tony. I'm going to check on something else. Meet back at the lab?" Steve nodded and headed out with the gun.
You stealthily made your way to Loki's cell. While you were mildly terrified, you needed to talk to him. When you walked in the room, you saw Natasha already there.
"There's not many people that can sneak up on me," Loki said, smirking as he turned to face her.
"But you figured I'd come."
"After. After whatever tortures Fury can concoct, you would appear as a friend, as a balm. And I would cooperate."
You listened as they talked, hiding in an unseen corner of the room. "I've got red in my ledger, I'd like to wipe it out," Natasha said.
"Can you? Can you wipe out that much red? Drakov's daughter? Sao Paulo? The hospital fire? Barton told me everything. Your ledger is dripping, it's gushing red, and you think saving a man no more virtuous than yourself will change anything?" At this point Loki had stood from his seat across the cell and was slowly making his way, stalking, towards her. "This is the basest sentimentality. This is a child at prayer, pathetic! You lie and kill in the service of liars and killers.You pretend to be separate, to have your own code, something that makes up for the horrors. But they are a part of you, and they will never go away!" Finally he slammed his fist against the glass, startling both you and Natasha. "I won't touch Barton. Not until I make him kill you! Slowly. Intimately. In every way he knows you fear! And when he'll wake just long enough to see his good work, and when he screams, I'll split his skull! This is my bargain, you mewling quim!"
Natasha had backed away, shaking, eyes wide in terror. "You're a monster," She gasped.
"No," Loki chuckled darkly. "You brought the monster."
"So, Banner. That's your play," Natasha said, suddenly not crying or seemingly emotional at all. Loki was shocked. Natasha hurried out of the room, thanking Loki and talking hurriedly on her ear piece.
You quickly slipped out of your hiding place and hurried over to the cell. "What are you doing here?" Loki sneered.
"I have some questions," You said. He rolled his eyes and huffed. "Personal ones. This is for my own agenda."
"Fine, one question," He relented, smirking slightly. Loki fully expected you to still be trying to gather information from him.
"Look, I listened to your little speech there. I don't completely agree with you but you have a point. In some respects we're no better off than you," You said. Loki raised an eyebrow curiously, watching as you stood right against the glass, staring up at him confidently. "If I were to help you, what would be in it for me? I want an honest answer or at least a believable lie. Don't give me a "glorious purpose, bright lure of freedom" speech. Tell me something I can believe. What would you do if I helped you?"
"I can't promise you anything except your life. I promise I won't kill you. Now, if you're stupid enough get yourself killed-"
"I get it," You chuckled. Nodding you smiled at him. "I'll let you know." With that you left, leaving the God of Mischief to his thoughts.
When you rejoined the rest of the team in the Lab they were, unsurprisingly, arguing again. "I'm sorry, what were you lying?" Tony said, showing Fury the files he'd just hacked. Steve was standing next to the weapon, Fury was yelling, everyone was pointing fingers. You shook your head but saw your opportunity. In the commotion, no one was paying any attention to the scepter. You bit your lip nervously. You had to make a decision.
The entire Helicarrier was in chaos. It was nearly impossible to make your way to Loki's cell without being seen but you eventually made it. With so many agents running around you didn't want to risk teleporting and find yourself at the wrong end of their guns.
When you finally reached the cell you saw the door open and Loki standing in it. "No!" Thor yelled, running at him. You almost cried out to stop Thor but then you noticed movement from the other side of the glass cage. As Thor tumbled through Loki's illusion you grinned.
"Are you ever not going to fall for that?" Loki asked Thor, locking him in the cell. Thor roars and slams Mjolnir on the glass which cracks under the impact. Both you and Loki are surprised, having thought the cell was indestructible. Loki walks over to the control panel slowly. "The humans think us immortal. Should we test that?" Before he can press the button, Agent Coulson shows up with one of the weapons you'd seen in storage.
"Move away, please," He says. "You like this? We started working on the prototype after you sent the Destroyer. Even I don't know what it does. Do you wanna find out?"
As Phil was speaking you snuck up behind him. And just before he shot Loki you shoved the scepter into his back, stabbing him through. Pulling it back out you dropped him to the ground and grinned at Loki. 'Pity,' You thought. 'Phil always seemed to be such a nice guy.'
"Why did you do that?" Loki asked, staring at you in surprise. There was an odd look of terror and excitement on his face. "I didn't promise you anything."
"Yes you did," You said, walking up to him and handing him the scepter. "You promised me loyalty." The facade cracked for a moment, a soft smile slipping through. "And you're pretty."
"I like you!" Loki laughed, grabbing your waist and pulling you against him. "Shall we?" He asks, gesturing to the red button.
"Of course," You reply. Your hand hovers over it and you glance back at Thor who is in disbelief. "It's nothing personal, Thor," You say. "Or, actually," You look back at Loki and smile. "It definitely is." You press the button and air whooshes around you as it falls to the earth below.
"You're gonna lose," Coulson says weakly.
"Am I?" Loki asks, turning to look at him.
"It's in your nature."
"Your heroes are scattered, your floating fortress falls from the sky. Where is my disadvantage?"
"You lack conviction," Phil replies.
"Not anymore," Loki sneers at him, holding you even tighter.
"So what are you gonna do about it?" You taunt. Suddenly you're both blasted out of the aircraft.
"So that's what it does."
You scream, closing your eyes and clinging to Loki as you both fall. "Calm down," Loki yells. Suddenly there's hard ground below you. As you open your eyes and reorient yourself you see it's actually hardwood.
"Where are we?" You ask.
"Stark Tower." Standing up you see the city skyline before you just outside the window. "It's about to begin," He says. "Are you still with me?"
"Yes," You reply immediately, taking his hand. He tilts your chin up and kisses you softly in contrast to his overall demeanor.
"We shall rule together then, my queen," He promises. You nod and kiss him again before you walk out to the balcony to wait for the inevitable arrival of the Avengers.
"Together."

Alright moon, i thought of H for Hawkeye. Not sure if you're a Marvel fan, but here goes. I got a little carried away bc I love an AU where Hange is Hawkeye and Levi is Black Widow.

Levi held the tesseract in his hand, staring at its mesmerizing, light blue glow as he held it up to his face.
“Looks like we’re here for the same thing, huh, Mr. Ackerman?”
Levi quickly pulled the cube close to his chest, revealing someone standing on the other side of the room, staring right back at him. Her big brown eyes glowered behind thick-lensed classes, brown hair tied messily in a high ponytail. She swiftly reached back to reveal a bow and arrow, now pointed directly at him.
“If you hand it over, I promise I won’t kill you!” She said playfully.
Levi frowned and grit his teeth in annoyance.
“Are you mocking me, Four-Eyes?”
She laughed heartily— “Well, people usually call me Hawkeye, but you know what? I’ll let you call me that instead!” With that, she launched her arrow at him, Levi’s reflexes so fast, he dodged it right on time. However, he didn’t expect the arrow to explode.
The blast blew Levi off to the side, and soon Hange already had a hand gripped on his arm. He twisted to grab it, throwing Hange down right on her back. Levi reached for his gun, but she was too quick—Hange punched upwards to launch his handgun from its holster, sending it across the room. Levi quickly countered with a kick, sending Hange’s bow sliding across the tiled floor.
Off they were into hand to hand combat, each punch caught by the other, every kick countered with a dodge. Levi was thrown for a loop. He’d met his match.
It was the most frustrating fight he’s had for awhile, yet, he found himself smiling—and he could have sworn he saw a smile on her face as well.
Suddenly, explosions sounded from the ceiling, confusing Levi. Hange had already set the explosives prior to meeting him.
While he was distracted, Hange grabbed the tesseract, but Levi countered quickly, sending the cube flying. Levi ran as Hange scrambled for her bow. When she turned, a huge chunk of debris came falling towards Levi.
“Levi—wait!” She yelled. Luckily, she sent an explosive arrow towards it, blasting it and preventing it from crushing Levi. Smaller pieces showered down, but to Hange’s dismay, one piece of debris was still much too big. Levi stared up and it hit him straight on the head, his vision going black.
Levi woke up suddenly, quickly sitting straight up. His heart raced, and sweat beaded on his temple as he tried catching his breath. Disoriented, he looked around fast, blinking the sleep from his eyes. Once he came to his senses, he gasped and stared downwards—Hange was still asleep, her head rested on his lap. Safe.
Breathing a sigh of relief, he leaned back, staring up at the walls of the metal air vents they had been hiding up in for the last 5 days. Little scratches in the walls of word games, tic tac toe, stupid things to fill the time as they waited on the go from Erwin.
But Levi’s thoughts quickly switched back to dwelling upon his dream—clearly the first time he met Hange had been on his mind, and he couldn’t stop thinking about it. They went from enemies to… whatever this was, real fast. This was their 10th mission together, and here they were, stuck hiding out in a small space inside the air vents of a subway station in Budapest. After finishing this mission, Levi would be taken in as a trusted agent of S.H.I.E.L.D. It was crazy how fast the tables turned for him—in a good way, for once.
He looked down, and rubbed the back of his hand against Hange’s cheek to wake her up. Her eyebrows furrowed as she woke, turning up to face Levi, giving him a little smile. Levi ran his fingers over the side of her covered eye, scratching away at the dried blood clinging to her skin.
“Get up, Hange. We have to change the dressing on your eye.”
Hange stretched sleepily, and sat up. Levi grabbed some supplies, and knelt in front of her, peeling the medical tape and gauze away carefully. He brought an alcohol pad, wiping away the dried blood.
“Can you see?”
Hange opened her eye.
“Yes, don’t worry! Though I’ll probably just have a nasty scar to remember this mission together forever!” she exclaimed with a tired laugh. Her persistent optimism never failed to surprise Levi.
“There’s been something on my mind, Hange.” “Oh, and what’s that?”
Levi hesitated, but continued with his burning questions—they spilled out of him so fast he couldn’t control himself.
“Why did you choose to save me that day? Why didn’t you just take the tesseract and run? Why did you think I’d be someone that should work as a part of S.H.I.E.L.D.? Why—“
Hange laughed. “Suddenly so talkative, Levi!”
Levi grumbled. “Just, can you answer??”
Hange grew silent for once. She thought back to when she was tasked to learn everything she could about Levi, following him all over the world. She remembered when her turning point was—a time when Levi planted explosives in a building, but rushed back in when he realized three innocent children had been lurking around where they shouldn’t have been. And that was when she learned something the world didn’t—Levi Ackerman wasn’t truly the cold-blooded killer everyone thought he was.
And she took her chance on that.
“Hm, well, I could almost say the same to you! Why did you choose to trust me? Why did you decide to stay with us? You had every chance to leave, it’s not like we had you imprisoned or anything this entire time?”
Levi thought about their first meeting—how he had never met someone else that matched an equal combat ability to himself. It grasped his attention quickly. But what really drew him to stay, was that Hange genuinely trusted him, stood up for him… believed in him. No one had ever done this for him since he was a child—only his mother ever did.
Levi laid the new set of gauze on Hange’s eye, and taped it down snugly.
Their true thoughts lingered in their heads, but neither of them could bring themselves to say their reasons out loud. Their eyes met for a moment.
A beeping roused them from their trance.
“Oh, must be Erwin,” Hange said with nervous laughter, trying to ignore the intimate moment they just shared.
She read the alert message. “Levi, it’s time to go,” she said with a serious tone.
“You ready to take down Zeke once and for all?” She said with a devious grin.
Levi smirked. Of course he was ready to fight with Hange—fighting back to back with her might actually be his absolute favorite thing in the world.
“Let’s do it.”

Note: Honestly, this chapter reads a little weird to me but my friend who helps me edit said it was fine. IDK going from the 40s to 2012 is weird when trying to write.

Seven months had gone by since Steve and I had been unfrozen. This new world I suddenly woke up in was exhausting. Everything had changed from the simplest thing like manners to complicated things like technology.
Days after waking up, we had been sent to a place called “The Retreat” so we could catch up on the seventy years we had missed out on. There was so much that we took to writing everything down in small notebooks, so we could remember.
I caught onto using the new technology quicker than Steve since I had worked with Howard Stark for several years. Being able to adapt to strange and new tech on the fly was a requirement when working with him.
After those few weeks there, we were both moved into two separate government apartments located in New York. I wish I could say that it got easier with time, but it didn’t. Instead of going to hang out with Steve or actually trying to make acquaintances with anyone, I just stayed in my room, locked away from everything. Coping with being in the future was the easy part, learning to live without everyone I ever knew was hard.
I hadn't known peaceful sleep in a long time. Every time I closed my eyes I am met with nightmares. The softness of the mattress had made it feel like I would fall through at any moment, back into the ice. To try and combat this I pushed my bed into the far corner of the room and made a cot directly under the frame. It felt safer to lay on the hard floor in the dark. The nightmares still came through, sometimes they were battles, sometimes they were of the plane crashing, but most of the time they were about losing Bucky. Every time I woke up in a cold sweat and never went back to bed. I just stared unblinking at the metal that made the bed frame.
One night after a particularly taxing dream I decided to take a walk. It was three in the morning, so I wouldn't have to deal with a lot of people. I changed out of my pajamas into some of the clothes I had been provided. The clothes of the future were tighter than in the forties. It had taken me a while to get used to the feeling of fabric clinging to my legs and upper body. The outside world was quiet except for the occasional car passing by. I kept my eyes to the ground, not really caring where I ended up. I only looked up when I was almost run over by another late-night walker. Peering from left to right, my eyes fixed on an old faded sign hanging above me. The letters were just barely readable and said in large letters ‘Boxing gym’. With another survey of the area, I realized where I was. This was the gym that Bucky used to take Steve when teaching him self-defense. I had tagged along a couple of times before I had joined the SSR, I was surprised it was still here. I smiled weakly and turned to the door. The light inside was on, it couldn’t hurt to see if they were open. The door creaked open and I slipped in quietly. The sound of someone working out came down the long brick hallway. Hesitantly I made my way to the open doors that led to the sparring room.
Stopping just past the threshold, to my surprise, I spotted Steve, who was busy punching the life out of a punching bag. I walked through the small office and around the boxing rings before I stopped again and leaned against one of the columns a few feet away from where Steve stood. I watched him for a while before he landed a hard punch on the bag and it flew off into the distance. I started clapping slowly and he turned around in shock.
“Good job, you broke the bag, but you do know you’re gonna have to pay for that right?”
“Hey kid, I haven’t seen you in a while. I came by your apartment but you didn’t answer.”
“I know Stevie, I just haven't felt up to company since we got back to New York. I hope you can forgive me.” He looked at me with sad eyes and took three long steps in my direction. His arms came out to engulf me in a hug.
“It’s okay, I understand. Promise you’ll tell me if something's wrong, okay?” I nodded into his chest and he squeezed me tighter.
“I couldn't sleep, I guess you couldn't either.”
“No, too many thoughts.” He let go of me and went to get two more punching bags. He hung them up a few feet away from one another before turning to me and asking if I wanted to join. Pretty soon we were both laughing together if it felt almost like we were back home before everything happened. That was until the same dark-skinned man from that day seven months ago showed up. I later learned he was Nick Fury, director of SHIELD.
“I’m glad to find you both here.” He stated.
“Are you here with a mission, Sir?” Steve asked.
“I am.”
“Is this to try and get us back out in the world?” I asked.
“No, I'm trying to save it.” he thrust out an open manila folder. I grabbed it slowly and brought it to where Steve and I could both look at it. The blue cube that had evaporated Johann Schmidt was in the photograph pinned to the first page. In large bold letters beside the pictures spelled out TESSERACT. We slowly walked to a nearby bench and sat down.
“That's HYDRA’s secret weapon. I thought it fell into the ocean that day,” I whispered.
“Howard fished it out of the water when they went looking for you both. He thought what we think, that this cube could be an unlimited sustainable energy source.” Fury informed us.
“Who took it from you?” Steve questioned.
“He’s called Loki, he’s not from around here. We have a lot we're gonna need to catch you both up on if you agree to help. This world has gotten stranger than you already know.”
“I doubt anything could surprise us anymore, right Stevie?”
“Yeah,” he agreed.
“Ten bucks says you’re both wrong.” Fury bet. We both got up from our seats and handed the file back. Steve went and grabbed another bag from the floor and I just headed straight for the door.
“There are debriefing packets at your apartments, read through them and get back to me by tomorrow afternoon. And before you leave, is there anything we should know about the tesseract?”
“You should have left it in the ocean.” Steve and I said at once before walking out of the gym. Once we were outside on the sidewalk we hugged and said our goodbyes for the moment and then went our separate ways.
The walk home felt longer than the walk to the gym, but this gave me time to think about what I wanted to do. Whether I wanted to go on this mission, or if I just wanted to lay low and live my life. By the time I walked through my front door I had almost made my decision, but I was waiting to read the file before I decided for good. With a quick look through the minimal information provided I sighed and threw the papers down onto my kitchen counter. Shaking my head I murmured to myself.
“No, I am not doing this. This cube is not worth it.” Rubbing my eyes I went back to my room and crawled under the bed, not caring that I was still in jeans and a t-shirt. I was not going to walk blindly into anything dealing with that cube again. I lost my fiance and everyone I have ever known because of that stupid blue thing, I'm not going to go anywhere near it again. I laid there quietly for a while before I eventually drifted off into a restless sleep.

The next morning I woke up with a start, almost hitting my head on the bed above me. Furious honking made its way from the street into my room. One thing I definitely missed from the past was how quiet it once was at seven a.m.
Along with the decision to not join the mission, I had also made up my mind about leaving New York. This had been a long decision in the making and the talk with Fury last night was enough to make the choice for me. I couldn't live in this city anymore. The places I used to hang out at were still here, but they had been renovated so many times that they were unrecognizable. Everywhere I turned It was like I was walking through a strange alternate reality. I saw glimpses of the past, like ghosts around every corner, it was worse when it was a place Bucky and I frequented.
When I had gotten back from the Retreat I made the mistake of going to mine and Steve’s old apartment. It had been torn down to construct a bookstore, along with several other retail shops. I broke down in the street when I saw it, waves upon waves of emotions crashed into me. All the memories I had there with Steve, mom, and Bucky had no place to live now other than in my mind. The next mistake I made was to go down the next few blocks to Bucky’s apartment he shared with his mom and sister, Rebecca. It was no longer there either, a bakery stood in its place. I turned and left before the onslaught of tears came. After that day I thought it would be best to go somewhere else, somewhere I had no memories.
I crawled out from under the bed and slowly moved to the bathroom to start getting ready for the long day to come. Once I had showered and gotten dressed I sat myself down on the living room sofa, looking wearily at the telephone on the end table. Hesitantly I picked up the receiver and dialed the number that had been in the tesseract briefing file. It rang twice before Nick Fury answered.
“Mr. Fury, I’m calling to tell you that I won’t be joining your team for whatever mission you have going on. I just want to lay low and rebuild my life and live it quietly without interruption.” I let out a long breath.
“Well, that’s unfortunate. Was really hoping to have you fight with us. If you change your mind, you know where to contact me. Goodbye Agent Rogers.” He hung up quickly after that, not giving me a chance to tell him goodbye as well. The next call was going to be the hard one, I had to tell Steve my plans. I dialed his number slowly as I raised the receiver to my ear. It didn’t even have time to get through the first ring before Steve picked up.
“Hello?” He asked on the other end.
“Hey, it’s me.”
“What’s up kid. Have you called Fury about joining the mission? I called about an hour ago letting them know I’d help.” He sounded a little enthusiastic.
“That’s actually what I’m calling about. I’m not sure how you’ll feel about this but I’m not going to help with the mission.”
“Oh,” he sounded surprised. “Why not? I thought you’d want to help get rid of that thing once and for all.”
“It’s not that, I want nothing more than for the tesseract to be gone for good. I just don’t think I can be a part of it, I don’t want this thing to take over my life if we can’t get rid of it. This brings me to another important thing I need to tell you. I can’t stay here in New York, so I’m moving to DC.” He was quiet for a while after I had said that, the only thing I could hear coming from his side was his breath. I grew more anxious by the minute waiting for him to say something.
“What do you mean you’re moving? Why can’t you stay here with me?”
“Don’t be selfish.” I snapped.
“I’m not being selfish, you are.” he raised his voice. I huffed through my nose, getting annoyed.
“I can’t stay here any longer. I have no idea what it is like for you, but for me, being in this city is torture. I see ghosts from the past every time I leave my house. I can’t go anywhere without seeing him, and every time I see him, I break down. I never got to say goodbye and that day plays over and over in my head. Steve, I’m being tormented with nightmares to the point where I have barely gotten five hours of sleep in the past week. I need to get out of here whether you like it or not.” Tears had started to stream down my face as I yelled into the phone.
“Why didn’t you tell me sooner? I could have helped you, I still can help you if you let me. If you leave I can’t keep you safe, I can’t protect you like I’m supposed to.” He was using his soft “grown-up” voice he always used with me when I was younger to try and calm me down but the tears kept streaming down my cheeks at a rapid pace.
“I can protect myself, we did take the same serum,” I choked out. “I didn’t tell you because I didn’t want to bother you with my problems, I can deal with them myself. Plus you have your own things to deal with, you don’t need to help me with mine.” My head was starting to hurt now and my cheeks and neck itched with quickly drying tears.
“Fine. The only way I will be okay with you leaving is if you promise to call me at least twice a week and you let me help you move.” I gave a strained laugh and nodded, even if he couldn't see it.
“Okay, it’s a deal. I actually already have an apartment lined up, so you can come over and help me pack everything up whenever you want to. I’m going to try and be out of New York by the end of next week.”
“I’ll be right over.” I laughed as I told him that I’d be waiting. I laid the receiver back down in its spot and stood up to go to the bathroom. I stared at myself in the mirror, thinking. I was glad my relationship with Steve could handle an argument, understand one another, then go right back to normal, I don’t think we would be this close if it couldn't. I blinked back a few stubborn tears and bent down to grab a rag from the sink cabinet, I dampened it in warm water then wiped the dried tears from my face. The warm water felt wonderful on my skin.

Over the next week and a half, Steve and I boxed up what few belongings I had and packed them and the furniture into a moving truck. I didn’t own a car so the moving truck would be my transportation to DC. One of the many things SHIELD had us do was take a modern driving test, which wasn’t hard, just a few more signs to remember and more gadgets in the car than there used to be, I ended up passing with flying colors.
By Friday morning we had everything ready to go. Steve would follow me on his motorcycle and I would drive the truck the whole three and a half hours to my new apartment.
We stopped several times on the way down, mainly so Steve didn’t have to sit on the bike for the whole three hours straight. We also stopped for lunch. All in all the trip took us about five hours, with traffic added. We made it to my new home just after two and we started moving my belongings in immediately.
Admittedly the apartment was way too big for just me but I liked the extra space, it was different from the tiny two-bedroom apartment I had grown up in. The first thing I made sure to unpack and put up was the bed. I still hadn't told Steve I wasn’t actually sleeping in the bed, but he didn’t need to know that. After that clothes were sorted through and put in their respective places. With our enhanced strength and stamina, we had the whole place relatively furnished in just under two hours. We stopped for dinner when everything had been brought up from the moving truck.
The day went by fast with us talking and laughing like we used to, it was a good change of pace from my usual aimlessly roaming around my apartment alone. But, all good things have to come to an end and Steve had to leave. He pulled me into a tight hug, almost crushing me, and wouldn’t let go until I pinky promised to call him several times a week. I just laughed and promised him I would. I was sad watching him walk down the hallway to the stairs.
I turned back into my apartment and closed the door, locking it behind me. I stared at the box littering the floor and decided to get to work unpacking the rest of what we hadn’t gotten earlier.
Most of my belongings I found in thrift stores and antique shops around the city. It may have been the twenty-first century now, but that wasn’t stopping me from making my home a comfortable, familiar space. If you walked in from the outside world, you would have thought you had been transported to the past with how much authentic 1940s and before things I had littered about. Some things had been saved from the apartment we lived in in the forties. I learned a few weeks before we came back from the retreat that Peggy had been the one to put everything in storage after they had failed to find Steve and me in the ice. I had gone through all of it and took out what I wanted to take with me and Steve had done the same. I was thankful Peggy had done what she did, otherwise, everything would have been lost to time.

That night as I tried to sleep, I realized it was a little easier to relax. DC was a whole lot quieter than New York, there was no honking or yelling every two seconds to keep me awake. I was left alone in almost complete silence, which for others may be worse than being bombarded with noise, but I didn’t mind. I fell asleep almost an hour after laying down for the night and had a restless sleep. I woke up many times in the night covered in sweat, but I couldn't remember the dreams, anything I could remember dissipated as soon as I opened my eyes.
I woke up again very early the next morning, the clock on my wall said it was four forty-five. It was still dark out, but I could hear birds starting to chirp. I crawled out from under the bed frame and went to put on some exercise clothes. Running always helped to clear my mind after not being able to get any sort of rest. The run itself didn’t take long, even though it was seven miles, any normal person would be exhausted but I had barely broken a sweat. I did get to see some nice places, taking a route around the zoo, to the National Cathedral, and then back around to the Dupont Circle neighborhood, where my apartment was. The sun was just starting to come up as I made my way back into my building.
Although I had just moved in the day before, I was ready to start finding some sort of job. The money SHIELD was giving me to help assimilate back into the world comfortably was appreciated, but I wanted to make my own way in life without their help. Finding a job was going to be harder than it used to be, but I did have expertise in several areas. Upon being unfrozen, along with the driving tests, SHIELD created a new resume for me. I had degrees in history pertaining to the 1940s, World War II, and several of the New Deal programs, with a specialty in the SSR. I was also given a Veteran ID, although I don’t really know how that one works because I definitely was not a part of the apparent ongoing fighting in Afghanistan. I still looked twenty-four, I doubt anyone would believe it.
Anyway, I had interviews lined up for today at the Smithsonian, and hopefully, the resume that SHIELD created and my knowledge would be enough to land a job. I had already figured that I would be volunteering at the local VFW. I knew I could find people there to relate to and hopefully be able to make some friends.

Trust, Chapter 2

Darcy fell asleep for a few hours in the bedroom, but she woke in the middle of the night and cursed when she remembered where she was and what had happened. She sighed and rolled over, but her stomach rumbled. She was starving.
Even though she wasn’t sure whether it was Loki that had stocked up on food or not, she decided to take a chance and hope it wasn’t poisoned. She was stuck on this planet anyway, with no way off. She knew the Avengers wouldn’t come get her, she wasn’t worth it. So it would depend on what Loki was going to do with her when he didn’t get the tesseract. But she certainly wasn’t going to starve to death.
She slipped out of bed and went into the kitchen, it was dark but there was enough light coming in through the window from the four moons for her to see. She made her way to the fridge without trouble, the light inside said fridge helped light up the room even more.
‘Hmm… what do we have here.’ Darcy hummed to herself as she had a rummage around. ‘Ah, bingo!’ She found some cheese that looked like ordinary cheese that would be safe enough to eat. She remembered seeing some crackers in one of the cupboards earlier.
As she closed the fridge door, she let out a scream as Loki was standing right behind it. Staring down at her.
‘Fucking hell! Way to give a girl a heart attack!’ She put her hand over her heart and moved away from him to find the crackers.
‘What are you doing?’ He asked, his hands behind his back as he watched her curiously. Like it wasn’t obvious what she was doing.
‘Getting something to eat. What does it look like I’m doing?’ She opened the first cupboard and hit the jackpot, a full packet of crackers. This would definitely do for now.
‘I can see that. But why?’ Loki asked as she sat down at the table.
‘Geez, for a God you certainly ask a lot of stupid ass questions. Why do people eat? When they’re hungry, duh!’ She rolled her eyes.
Loki narrowed his eyes at her. Not best pleased at her comment. He moved across the room and stood at the opposite side of the table from her.
‘You’ve been kidnapped. You’re not supposed to be making yourself at home and helping yourself to food.’ He grumbled.
‘Well, if you don’t want me to eat go ahead and stop me.’ Darcy shrugged as she shoved a cracker into her mouth, slightly concerned in-case he would.
Loki shook his head, grumbling he turned and walked off. That’s when Darcy noticed the sofa at the other side of the room with pillows and a blanket. She watched as he lay down and turned his back to her.
She was slightly confused. As he said, this was a kidnapping. But it certainly wasn’t anything like she’d heard or expected of one. It didn’t seem like he wanted to harm her, in-fact he seemed rather harmless so far.
‘So, what’s your plan?’ She called out to him.
Loki’s jaw clenched, hearing her crunching on the crackers was bad enough but now she was trying to converse with him when he just wanted to sleep.
‘Hey! Mr kidnapper!’ She tossed a bit of cheese in his direction, but with lightning speed his hand shot up and he caught it.
He sat up and turned around to face her, not looking happy.
‘What?’ He snapped.
‘What’s your plan now? Huh? You got the wrong person, so what are you going to do?’ Darcy asked.
Loki glared at the infuriating mortal and pinched the bridge of his nose as the cheese disappeared in a haze of green from his hand. ‘I will wait until your precious Avengers make contact, to give me what I want in return for you.’
‘Well, we will be here forever then. I’ve already told you, they won’t give you anything for my return.’  
‘I doubt that.’
‘Ah well.’ Darcy shrugged. ‘Don’t say I’ve not warned you. You’re in for a long wait.’
Loki couldn’t quite comprehend why she seemed to think so little of herself. The team would be scrambling to rescue her, since she was part of the team… Wouldn’t they?
He shook off that thought. Of course they would. She was just trying to put doubts into his mind so he would return her sooner.
‘Just go back to sleep.’ Loki grumbled and lay back down, his back to her once again.
Darcy sighed and kept eating until she was full, she didn’t ask anymore questions. Loki was glad when he heard go back into the bedroom, so he wasn’t subjected to her munching anymore.
But he kept thinking about what if she was right? If they wouldn’t come for her, then he would be stuck with a mortal to deal with and no tesseract…

In the morning, Darcy woke to the sun shining into the bedroom. At least that was one normal thing on this otherwise weird and very much not normal planet.
Considering she’d been kidnapped, she had a rather good sleep. She felt relatively safe with Loki. Sure, he had taken her to some random planet. But she was pretty sure if he was going to kill her, he would’ve done so by now. Besides, she had heard stories about him from Thor and they weren’t all bad. Mischievous, sure. But Thor did talk rather fondly of him at times.
The attack on New York hadn’t exactly been good or shown Loki in a good light, but when he escaped from the guards before being taken back to SHIELD HQ he went silent for a year. Thor and the other Avengers had been trying to find him, but he wasn’t causing any chaos so he became less and less of the main focus over time.
They were completely lying when they said they didn’t have the tesseract. Bruce and Tony were obsessed with it, studying it all the time. Thor wanted to take it back to Asgard, but they kept putting it off. Darcy wouldn’t be surprised if they sent it there now though, for safety since Loki was back on the scene.
She wandered out of the bedroom and saw Loki sitting at the table, eating breakfast. It certainly looked and smelled nicer than her midnight snack of cheese and crackers.
‘Uh… Morning?’ She said awkwardly.
Loki glanced over at her, an eyebrow up. ‘Morning.’ He said cautiously. Then watched her as she had a look for something to eat.
She decided to sit down at the table opposite him with her breakfast. Loki had a book he was reading while he ate, but he put it down when he felt her staring at him.
‘If you have something to say, get on with it.’ He drawled, narrowing his eyes at her.
‘Alrighty.’ Darcy put her spoon down and gave him all her attention. ‘What happened back when you attacked New York? Why did you do it? And why are you trying to get the tesseract back? What will you do with me, just keep me here until I die of old age?’
Loki groaned and ran a hand down his face. ‘So many questions. Maybe I would be better off killing you.’ He growled, narrowing his eyes at her.
Darcy could tell it was an empty threat. Or she certainly hoped so, anyway.
‘You’ve taken me to some weird ass planet, I think I have earned the right to ask a few questions.’ She continued eating while she waited to see if he would answer her questions.
Loki sighed and sat back. ‘I will keep you here for as long as it takes, until I get what I need. And I thought it was obvious when I brought the Chitauri to Earth, I only wanted to rule your world, not destroy it.’
‘Then why bring that alien army, who did destroy it? Well, part of it anyway.’ Darcy said with a mouthful of cereal.
‘Don’t talk with your mouth full.’ Loki said firmly, making Darcy laugh.
‘Sorry, Prince Loki.’ She bowed her head mockingly. ‘Or should I say, King Loki of that ice-world-place.’
Loki’s jaw clenched. ‘So Thor has told you about me.’
‘Of course. Wouldn’t shut up about you, it got pretty boring after a while.’
‘What has he told you?’ Loki folded his arms over his chest as he looked at her curiously.
‘Well. He told us that you’re an ice man, that your… his… father lied to you. He also feels partly to blame for you going off the rails in such a spectacular way. But I mean, dude… When people have daddy issues, usually they just rebel and stay out late, disobey their dad for a while. But you really ranked that up a notch by killing people and blowing up New York.’
‘I do not have daddy issues.’ Loki snapped.
‘Whatever.’ She shrugged. ‘Thor still thinks there’s good in you. Or he did last time he spoke about you, anyway. But to be honest, he’s been so infatuated with Jane lately he barely speaks about anyone else. And vice versa.’
‘How anyone could fall in love with that oaf is beyond me.’ Loki muttered.
‘Tell me about it. He’s such a klutz. Jane is so in love with him though, it’s sickening.’ Darcy said as she pulled a face.
A small smirk tugged on Loki’s lips.
‘So… are you going to answer my other questions?’ Darcy asked hopefully.
Loki studied her for a moment before answering.
‘No.’
He waved his hand over his dishes and they vanished, then he got up and walked away. Darcy rolled her eyes and groaned.
‘It’s going to be a looooong day.’ She sighed to herself.

Part 21 - Let's be real for a moment...

Your POV.....
I already was at Stark Tower. I waited 30 seconds more and Tony was flying next to me. We need to stop this machine before it opens the portal for the Chitauri. These brainless idiots can't even open a box, without shooting at it.... The Chitauri are a very strong group...but they don't own a brain for thinking. They can nothing but destroy. Loki got the most useless people of the whole Universe. They can't even speak ! Pathetic. We saw this... Selvig guy on the machine. Tony spoke....
"Shut it down, Mr. Selvig."
"It's too late ! It can't stop now. It wants to show us something ! ....a new Universe.", he said.
I snorted.
"You mean more, a new enemy with death. A new Universe is a whole new Timeline, idiot. What you mean is a new race of something. It's bullshit !", I said.
"You don't see, what we see..", Selvig said.
"Okay then...", Tony said.
He aimed....
"Stark DON'T !!!!", I yelled.
....and shot at the machine... A shield or something blocked it and threw a hard explosion around itself. The machine didn't even had a scratch. We flew backwards and Selvig got unconscious. I stared at Stark with a death glare and listened to JARVIS.
"The barrier is of pure energy. It's unreachable."
"Alright then...plan B.", Tony said.
Tony looked down and I followed his stare.
"Oh.....shit. Plan B is....what ? Kick Loki until he falls unconscious ? Heh...yeah...that won't work...", I said.
"Just trust me.", Tony said.
"Have a hard time to do something like that....sorry."
He landed on some weird platform. That thing took of his robot uniform. While he walks. Loki walked to the stairs.
"What are you doing ?", I asked.
"Trust me.", he said.
"Not until you tell me what the hell you think you're doing ! He can kill you, by just throwing you out of the window !"
"Just play our little game with."
I huffed and went with Tony inside. Loki was already and started babbling.
"Please tell me you're both going to appeal to my humanity."
"Uh...actually we're planning to threaten you."
I looked at Tony, then at Loki.
"You should have left your armor on for that.", Loki said amused.
"Yeah.", Tony said.
Tony walked with me down the stairs.
"It's seen a bit of mileage and you got the, uh, glow stick of destiny.", Tony answered.
Loki looked at his scepter in amusement.
"Would you like a drink ?", Tony asked Loki.
Loki still looked amused.
"Stalling me won't change anything.", Loki said.
Tony went to his bar of drinks. He turned to him and said...
"No, no, no. Threatening."
Tony turned to me.
"Do you want a drink...Lucie ?"
I nodded my head. Tony nodded and took a glass with something in it. He looked at Loki again.
"No drink ? Are you sure ? I and Lucie are having one."
He took two glasses. Loki looked outside and went to the window.
"The Chitauri are coming. Nothing will change that.", Loki said.
"Boah ! You are funny. Just because we ask you if you want a drink, doesn't mean we are friends now.", I said.
Loki looked at me.
"I wasn't finished, Mortal."
"I don't care, Frosty. The Chitauri are a bunch of losers. When will you see that ?"
"Liar. You played like you were Luciella first, but you are nobody. You are not her and you are just some stupid, ugly Mortal, who thinks that playing with a God is funny."
"I am not what you say. I know who I am. You don't ! So watch you Silver Tongue ! Or else..."
"What have I to fear ?", Loki asked me with a grin.
"The Avengers.", Tony answered.
Tony looked up at us, I smiled and Loki looked at him confused as fuck. Tony shrugged.
"That's what we call ourselves. We're sort of like a team. ' Earth's mightiest heroes'- type thing", he explained.
"When do I get my drink ?", I whined.
"Any second. Come here.", Tony answered.
I went to him and stood next to him. I looked at him with excitement. He filled the liquid into the second glass and gave it to me. I took a sip. Yummy.
"Yes, I've met them.", Loki said amused.
Tony and I smiled back.
"Yeah.", we both said.
"It takes us a while to get any traction, I'll give you that one. But let's do a head count here. Your Brother, the Demigod."
Loki looked away maybe...disgusted or more angry.... While Loki looked away, I saw Tony putting on some Wristbands.
"A super soldier, a living legend, who kinda of lives up to a legend. A man with breathtaking anger - management issues, a couple of master assassins, maybe a second demigod with more powers then Thor. And you, big fella,"
Tony pointed at Loki, who looked now really amused.
"you've managed to piss off every single one of them."
"That was the plan.", Loki said proud.
"Not a great plan. When they come, and they will, they'll come for you.", Tony told Loki.
I took another sip of my drink. Loki looked annoyed.
"I have an army.", he said.
"We have a Hulk.", we both said.
"I thought the beast had wandered off."
"You're missing the point. There is no throne. There is no version of this where you come out on top. Maybe your army comes and maybe it's too much for us, but it's all on you."
Loki looked at Tony, angry now.
"Because if we can't protect the Earth, you can be damn well sure we'll avenge it.", Tony added.
Tony and I took another sip of the drink. I drank it now empty. Loki walked to Tony dangerously closely. With a look, that would scare anybody, but not me and Tony.
"How will your friends have time for me, when they are so busy fighting you ?", Loki asked.
Loki raised his scepter, it glowed and blue magic danced around it. He touched with the top of the scepter Tony. .....nothing happened, just a cling was to hear. Loki lost his smile and tried again. ....Nothing. Loki looked at his scepter confused.
"This usually works..."
"Well, performance issues,", Tony grimaced and shrugged, "it's not uncommon."
Loki stared at Tony.
"One out of five -"
Loki grabbed Tony by his throat. He threw him on the ground, near the windows.
"TONY !", I screamed.
"JARVIS, anytime now.", Tony spoke.
Tony stood up and Loki grabbed him again by the throat.
"You will all fall before me.", Loki said.
"Deploy !", Tony called.
Loki lifted Tony up, still by the throat.
"Deploy !", Tony called again.
Loki threw him out of the window.
"TONY !!! NO !!", I screamed.
I heard a sound. I turned, Loki did also and Tony's Iron Man suit flew out. It hit Loki and flew out of the window in full speed. It was also more fixed. 30 seconds or so later and Tony was there again. Loki just stood up again.
"And there is one other person you pissed off. His name was Phil.", Tony told him.
Loki wanted to use the scepter and shoot at Tony, but Tony was faster and shot Loki. It hurts to see Loki get shot, but it's the only way to make him stop. Loki fell and lost the scepter. I felt something...bad happening. I saw a line of blue, reaching in the sky. The portal...it's open !
"Tony the portal !!!"
He looked up. The Chitauri came through the portal.
"Shit...", I cursed.
"Right. Army."
With that he flew away.
"And what about me ?! What are my orders ?! Babysitting the demigod, Lokster ?!", I screamed after Tony.
I saw the Chitauri shooting at Tony, but missing and Tony shooting and destroying the most of the Chitauri. I stared at Loki, who was smiling at me. I gave him my coldest death glare of the world. I went to him and slapped him across the face. Hard. He had a red mark and fell back to the ground groaning. He stared at me.
"What did you say, years before ? We are friends no matter what ? Guess what, you are wrong ! And what did I once say to you ? No matter who you are or what you do, I will always like you, no matter what ? Guess what again....I WAS A FOOL TO SAY THAT !", I screamed at him.
"You are not her ! Stop pretending that you were !", he yelled.
"Well, maybe you should turn on your God for saken brain and realize that it's me !!! It's my soul in another body you complete Moron !!! I grew in my exile too !! And you know what ?"
"What ?!"
"I am disappointed in you. Frigga and I hoped that you will find a way out, that you are fine and return to us. We BELIEVED in you ! We both cried over you ! Thor didn't do much anymore and Odin looked more shitty then you can imagine ! And now...look at you ! The oh so mighty depressed demigod, Loki destroys his chance of getting hugs and 'I missed you'-s ! I really was worried, you know ?! I was afraid he killed you !! Instead I see this thing here before me ! I can't even call you a person anymore ! You were my best friend and always knew what is right and what is wrong ! You always found a way out ! And now ?! MY Loki is gone, right ?! Did you forgot what you said ?! You never wanted the throne, you only wanted to be Thor's equal !"
Loki stared at me.
"You...are really....here ? You...you...are against me ?"
"I- Loki look around ! Of course I am now against you ! You are destroying New York !! You tell bullshit about 'The Tesseract opened my eyes and horizon.' ! What the fuck Loks ?! He is using you, like in Asgard Thor's friends do !! Wake up Loverboy ! This is another illusion, a lie he is feeding you !! I know him better than you do ! He won't keep his promise ! He just wants you to fulfill 2 tasks and both aren't your business !! They never were ! But you don't see it anymore !! He fooled the God of fricking Mischief and Lies !! Who are you again ?! The God of foolness ?! The God of 'I am too stupid to see a trap, even if it's right in front of my eyes' ?! You messed up, Loki !!!"
I had tears in my eyes and some ran down my cheeks.
"I was worried sick ! I always tried to contact you again, but it didn't work !! I just could wait and hope to God that you are fine and I will see you again !! Now I see you here, but as an murderer !! Tell me how am I carrying the fucking consequences for you ?! I loved you as a friend !! I- I saw you as a big brother ! I- !!"
I looked at him. He stared at me, with an apologetic look on his face. My tears streamed down like waterfalls. He came closer while I talked, I backed away. I looked behind me and....jumped down. I jumped out of the window and flew. I looked at him one last time.
"You don't even care. Why did I tell you this ? You don't even care..."
He wanted to say something, but I already flew away and into the fight.

Heist (Marvel Imagine)
Title: Discovered
Pairing: There is no final pairing (since I follow along with the movies as accurately as I can) but [Y/N] does gravitate towards Loki

Summary: Finally it was time to make a come back. Now newly energized with a beacon of hope, the Avengers set out to gather the infinity stones. And though [Y/N] followed on this mission to bring back those lost to Thanos, she also was hoping for something else. Somewhere deep in her heart, she was excited to be able to see a familiar face that always lingered in the back of her mind.

Part 16 - Heist
“All right, we all have our assignments.” Was the first thing [Y/N] heard when she cleared her head from the dizziness. “Two stones uptown, one stone down. Stay low. Keep an eye on the clock.”
[Y/N] blinked several times, trying to get rid of her nauseated feeling and suppressing the trauma welling up within her gut. She felt like throwing up, her heart racing and her breathing turning rapid, but she felt the comforting presence of her friends and was able to quickly get herself back on track.
“You alright?” Scott asked as the others were distracted by the past Hulk smashing nearly everything in sight.
“Yeah, yeah, I’m fine,” [Y/N] reassured as she took a deep breath, “Just… I just really hate time travel. And portals.”
“Yeah, it can be a little disorientating.”
Oh, you don’t know the half of it, [Y/N] thought to herself but swallowed back her sarcastic remarks and just focused her attention back to the task at hand.
With a couple more words, the team split up.
Before they had left on this mission, the team allowed [Y/N] a choice. Since the others knew that their protectiveness of her was a bit unfair, knowing that she really could handle herself in tough situations based on past experiences, they let her decide who she would follow. She could either choose to go with Cap to get the scepter with the mind stone, Hulk with the time stone, or Tony and Scott with the space stone, or the Tesseract.
Why she chose to go with Tony and Scott, who already had two people, was beyond them, considering the fact that she was already mad that she was joining a team of five instead of the other teams of two. But to [Y/N] she had fairly simple reasons.
The scepter would be with Hydra, and Cap already had some history with them so [Y/N] didn’t think she would be needed at all. The time stone was probably with Doctor Strange, who she still was mad at for portaling her away. And lastly… The space stone would be with past Tony, past Thor, and… And Loki.
“Better hustle, Cap,” Tony said through the comms as he and [Y/N] observed from the roof of a building across from the old Stark Tower. “Things look like they’re just about wrapped up here.”
“Got it. I’m approaching the elevator now,” Steve replied.
Tony and [Y/N] snuck their way into the tower, cloaked in her usual invisibility, and quietly looked on at what was happening in the room. They were peaking through the slits of the designs on the wall when [Y/N] picked up the sound of a familiar voice. One that she had not forgotten in these long, draining years.
“If it’s all the same to you…” He began, his voice raspy with exhaustion from the fight, “I’ll have that drink now.”
Loki, the name nearly slipped from her lips and she quickly covered her mouth before she could make a sound.
This was not the Loki she knew. This was someone who had never met her and neither had this time’s [Y/N] met with him. He was more cruel in this time, hating everyone around him and despising his brother even more. If she met him during this time, he might have very well killed her without a second thought. So she tried to convince herself that this Loki was different. He was not the same god she had come to know on the distant planet of Sakaar.
“Mr. Rogers,” Tony softly scoffed, snapping [Y/N] out of her thoughts, “I almost forgot that that suit did nothing for your ass.”
“No one asked you to look, Tony,” Cap replied, and [Y/N] could practically feel him rolling his eyes.
“It’s ridiculous,” Tony added, ignoring Steve.
“I think you look great, Cap,” Scott refuted with his fanboy nature, “As far as I’m concerned, that’s America’s ass.”
[Y/N] bit her lip to hold back a laugh as she recalled how Peter might have reacted in this situation. He was also the type to ramble and fanboy about superheroes, so she knew where Scott was coming from. Besides, even her own friends from back home had talked non-stop about the Avengers when she had returned from New York. The Avengers were celebrities.
“Who are these guys?” Scott asked as a team arrived through the elevator.
“They are S.H.I.E.L.D.,” Tony said but then quickly corrected himself. “Well, actually Hydra, but we didn’t know that yet.”
“Seriously? You didn’t? I mean, they look like bad guys,” Scott replied, bewildered at the Avengers’ past intuition.
“You’re small, but you’re talking loud.”
“I gotta go with Scott on this one, Tony,” [Y/N] agreed as she shifted her line of sight back to the hydra members. “If the old me was here, she’d book it like there was no tomorrow.”
“Yeah, well the old you would’ve run from anyone, seeing as how you ran from Capsicle too,” Tony rebutted with a smirk.
“Touché,” [Y/N] conceded as she watched the past Steve leave for search-and-rescue and Loki get muffled by Thor after making fun of the Cap’s way of talking.
“Ooh. All right, you’re up, little buddy.” Tony cued Ant-Man and the plan officially went into motion.
[Y/N] used her powers to shield Scott from sight as well as get him onto past Tony’s shirt before she separated from present Tony and levitated herself upward to cling to the ceiling of the elevator just as the targets were getting on. Then, as she and Scott got into position, Tony jumped out the window, using his nanotech to change into his Iron Man suit.
She tried her best to hide her presence, but she had forgotten one little detail.
“Whoa, whoa, whoa!” Thor called out at the same time past Tony shouted, “Hey, hey. Buddy!”
“What do you think?” Tony continued, “Maximum occupancy has been reached.”
While Tony and Thor got Hulk to take the stairs, Loki seemed to notice something and casually looked around before tilting his head up to the ceiling. [Y/N], looking him directly in the eyes, could feel her heart thumping harder in her chest and sweat begin to bead around her palms.
How could she have forgotten? That day on Sakaar, he had realized something amiss about her the moment she used her powers! And now he was sensing it again!
The ride down was long and strenuous as Loki looked curiously at the ceiling. He couldn’t quite see her, but he knew something was there that shouldn’t be. But when he noticed the others in the elevator take notice of him, he withdrew his gaze and just stood nonchalantly in the cramped space.
[Y/N] let out a small breath of relief. It seemed like Loki was in no mood to have her exposed, especially when he did not know if the presence he felt was friend, foe, or some other neutral party.
Finally, the group left the elevator and [Y/N] used her powers to levitate herself to the more open space of the Stark Industries lobby. She had more room to move and less of a chance of bumping into anyone’s head, so she stayed right on top of Tony, Thor, and Loki, trying not to take her eyes off the case with the Tesseract, which was really hard to do when she could feel Loki’s eyes on her every now and again.
His attention was beginning to get more consistent and she was starting to get really nervous.
“Thumbelina, do you copy? I’ve got eyes on the prize. It is go time,” Tony spoke through the comms.
“Bombs away,” Scott confirmed as he slid through past Tony’s shirt and made his way towards the arc reactor.
The moment past Tony started to gasp for air, as if he was a fish out of water, the three knew everything was going according to plan. Though both Scott and [Y/N] were a bit worried for past Tony’s safety, their Tony’s constant reassurance helped alleviate some of their concerns.
As fast as he could, Scott snuck out from the crowd and kicked the case with the space stone inside. The problem was, neither Tony nor Scott seemed to notice Loki’s attention had turned to the stone as well. Only [Y/N], who had an eye out for the mischievous god, caught his eyes following the container.
“Good job. Meet me in the alley,” Tony said as he picked up the case and headed towards the stairs. “I’m gonna grab a quick slice.”
Relax, [Y/N] tried to convince herself, Tony’s got the case. So long as he has it, Loki can’t-
She didn’t even get to finish that train of thought when Tony was propelled to the ground by Hulk, who aggressively swung open the door to the stairs.
The case he once had in his hand went flying and when it clattered onto the floor, the Tesseract within popped out and slid further away. That is… Further away from Tony. Sadly, it had made its way right to the one [Y/N] was worried about the most.
“Shit!” [Y/N] said out loud, thankfully the sound was masked by Hulk’s thunderous roar, as she noticed Loki’s attention turn to the glowing object right by his feet.
Swooping down from where she floated just above him, she was about to scoop up the infinity stone when her hand brushed against another. Shocked by the sudden touch, her concentration on her cloaking had faltered and she flickered in-and-out of focus. However, in that brief moment, her eyes locked on to the one that had broken her concentration.
Loki’s blue eyes met with [Y/N]’s and his gaze went from surprise to curiosity. She saw a vast array of emotions flickering past his irises, too fast for her to read all of them, but then she was startled by what he had ended on. From bewilderment to finally… Astonishment. Like he knew something about her.
She could not see any recognition in his eyes, but she knew he had confirmed something. [Y/N] desperately wanted to know what exactly he saw, but then something even more bizarre happened. He placed the Tesseract in one hand and his other reached out for hers. Stunned and frozen, suppressing the emotions she felt from seeing him alive again, she didn’t react even as his hand was almost about to touch hers.
“[Y/N]! The stone!” Scott yelled through the comms, startling her out of her trance, making her instinctively pull her hand back.
Her eyes locked onto Loki’s once more, her gaze filled with both happiness and grief, but her hand could not hold onto his. His hand hovered there, where hers once was, and he looked at her for a brief second longer, before bowing his head in a form of a silent farewell, and then vanished before [Y/N] could take back the stone.
As she flickered, she stared at where he once stood, her eyes misted with tears. She knew that would be the last time she ever saw him. The last time she ever heard his voice and peered into his eyes. She lamented not accepting the hand that reached for hers, and regretted the time lost between the Loki she knew that was now long gone.
Closing her eyes in resignation, not allowing herself to fall deeper in this unpredictable situation, she wrapped the air around her again and vanished from sight. Then, she wiped away her tears and turned away from the scene, making her way towards where Tony had fallen.
“That wasn’t supposed to happen, was it?” Scott asked as he jumped onto Tony’s vest while he still lay on the floor, disoriented.
“Oh, we blew it,” Tony sighed, realizing what had just happened.
“I’m sorry,” [Y/N] apologized as she helped Tony get up. “The stone was right in front of me, and… And I blanked. I’m so, so sorry.”
“Leave now, talk later,” Tony spoke up as he urged [Y/N] away just before tons of agents flocked to the lobby.

“Are there any other options with the Tesseract?” Steve asked, interrupting Tony and Scott’s bickering as [Y/N] bit her lip in shame.
She knew that it was also her fault that the Tesseract got away, but no one seemed to be pointing any fingers at her. That just made her feel worse, since it felt as though she had thrown Tony under the bus. Whenever she tried to share the blame, they either dismissed her claims or redirected the conversation back to Tony.
“No, no, no, there’s no other options,” Scott argued. “There’s no do-overs. We’re not going anywhere else. We have one particle left. Each. That’s it, all right? We use that… bye-bye, you’re not going home.”
“Yeah, well, if we don’t try…” Steve rebutted, “then no one else is going home, either.”
Then, Tony had an idea. It was a vague idea, but he had confidence in it. And though Tony was a little rough around the edges, he was still a genius through and through.
“[Y/N], you and Scott get this back to the compound,” Cap instructed as he handed the scepter to her.
“No, I’m coming with you,” [Y/N] refused and pushed the scepter onto Scott.
“No, you’re not,” both Steve and Tony said at the same time.
“I have the ability to cloak us from sight,” [Y/N] insisted, “I can be useful, wherever you both are planning on going.”
Steve and Tony paused for a moment, then glanced at one another before they nodded. There was some sort of silent agreement the two had made, but what it was [Y/N] had no idea.
“I’ll type in the coordinates,” Steve sighed as he held out his hand.
[Y/N] smiled as she showed him her device. She was a bit worried that he wouldn’t allow her to tag along, but thankfully the two of them gave in. Actually, they had given in rather fast. It was suspicious how fast they had given in, but [Y/N] was too preoccupied with correcting her mistakes that she didn’t seem to register how odd their behavior really was. And then, Cap’s grip on her wrist tightened.
“Cap?” She called out, an unsettling feeling finally washing over her as she took notice of his much too honest face.
“Meet you back at the compound, kid,” Tony called out with one of his signature crooked smiles, causing [Y/N] to instinctively pull back her arm, but Steve’s grip was too strong.
“Don’t! Don’t you dare-!”
But it was too late. [Y/N] was sent back home.
Author’s Note: Thank you everyone for making it this far! I know that there wasn’t enough of Loki and [Y/N] but I just couldn’t squeeze in more with how little we had of him in the movie, End Game. Just in case any of you was wondering what past Loki had realized when looking at [Y/N] in this part: Loki was raised by Frigga, who in turn was raised by witches. Just like how she sees “with more than eyes,” so does Loki [Avengers: End Game]. Although he does not know who [Y/N] is or what their relationship is/was, he can tell that she is from the future and that there is a bit of his own magic (though faint) lingering around her.

Warnings: Endgame (dw tho)... crying, sarcasm, swearing... the usual really lol.

A/N: Set after Endgame (no one died, bc I said so). I know you wanted fluff, and there is fluff, but there’s also some “soft-angst”. Not proofread. I don’t consider this to be my best work, just an FYI.

The war was over.
You won.
You really won.
It was kinda hard to believe. Considering how many times you had run through the battle at Wakanda, during the past five years. Tony, his Spider-Kid, and the wizard guy in space, with the Guardians, that you were yet to meet. The ones you never thought you would. Hell, you were yet to meet the kid or the wizard. Still. That didn’t stop you from feeling the loss for them.
The loss for half of your team, if not more.
Sam.
Bucky.
Wanda.
T’Challa.
Shuri.
They all vanished. Turned to dust- Ash. Right in front of your eyes.
And it was all because of that purple fucking giant, Thanos.
You were there that day.
That day, you were finally there. And that's what you got for it. Watching, from your place, beside Natasha, literally rooted to the ground, as he snapped his fat fingers, and the world around you disappeared.
You hadn’t been there for when Ultron had risen.
Nor for the so-called Civil War.
But for this. This, you were able to see. Only helping to solidify your assumptions that the world liked to fuck with you.
The next five years passed as slow as they had when you were a child.
Steve left. As did Bruce, Tony, Thor, and Clint was nowhere to be found.
I mean, you couldn’t really blame them for leaving. There were times that you wish you could just up and leave, to start anew. But you never did. You stayed at the compound with Natasha. There wasn’t a chance in hell, or high water, that you would leave her. You couldn’t even bare the thought of Natasha being left all alone in the large compound, with the only thing left to keep her company being her thoughts.
So you stayed.
You stayed by her side for five painfully long years.
However, along the way, you and Natasha got closer.
You weren’t really all that close before, I mean you we’re friendly sure, but you never sought each other out, the way you did with the other Avengers.
Natasha preferring to spend her time with Clint, Steve, Wanda, and now and again Tony.
And you, choosing to hang out with Tony, and Thor, more so than anyone else.
Most of the time, you wanted to kick yourself for not seeking Natasha out more than you did before- Or at all. You liked spending time with her. She was fun, even in her depressed and overworked state, so it was only left to your imagination to what she was like before Thanos.
It had been a whole year since the battle at Wakanda when everything changed.
You had walked in on Natasha in her office, which was really just the dining room, that she had commandeered for her workspace, with a bottle of strong liquor in hand. She had been crying before you entered, you could tell that much by her red and puffy eyes.
Giving her a tight-lipped smile, you started to drink the remainder of the day away. You might have had a bit too much to drink... okay, you had a lot too much to drink. Because the next morning you woke up to a blinding headache and a naked Natasha beside you in bed. It didn't take a detective to figure out what had happened the night before.
Your relationship progressed over the next four years. From a friends-with-benefits type of situation. To spending every night with each other, not even having sex. Natasha had told you she had fallen in love with you, a little over two years after the snap, as the media liked to call it. You, of course, were surprised but had returned her confession. Who wouldn’t have fallen for the red-head? By the time of the ‘Time Heist’, you were in a long-term committed relationship.
There had been some trial and errors throughout the heist.
Losing the Tesseract. Steve kicking his own ass. Having to re-work a part of the plan, and travelling to the 1970s. Thor having a crisis. Nebula having her memories stolen. Natasha...
When you found about Natasha, you had no reaction. Everyone around you was crying, sobbing. They at least had a tear in their eye. But you? There was nothing. Pulling yourself from Clint's grip, and walking away.
No one knew where you had gone, as they were left to reverse the snap on their own. Only coming back to fight against Thanos for the final time.
You definitely didn’t leave to go drink and cry over the ring you had bought.
Yeah, that's exactly what you did.
The battle was the first thing that had moved fast for the past five years. It was over in no time. This time Thanos had vanished before your eyes, along with his army.
You were in Tony’s lab with him, after his “funeral”, talking about the prosthetic arm he was making for himself when it happened.
Peter -the Spider-Kid- had burst through the doors, gasping for air and pointing behind himself.
“Jesus kid, you almost gave us a heart attack,” Tony said, holding a hand against his chest, “What’s up? What’s got you so bent outta shape?”
“Mr Rogers... he... stones... back... old...” he said panting, “Miss... Romanoff-”
“Natasha? What about her?” You jumped up, as you felt the anxiety flowing through you like tidal waves at this point. Patiently waiting for Peter to finish what he was saying, with bated breath. But, he never got the chance. As the moment he opened his mouth, to continue speaking, he was interrupted, once again.
“Y/N?!” A voice you would recognise anywhere, called down from the top of the stairs.
“Natasha?!”
You rushed over to where you could see her, with tears trailing down her face, yours falling to match.
One second you were peering up at Natasha from the base of the stairs, and then suddenly you were enveloping her in a tight hug. One that she returned ten-fold, crying into your shoulder, as your own tears dropped into her soft hair.
“Marry me,” you said in a tearful voice.
“What?”
“Marry me? Please?” You reached for the chain hanging around your neck, tugging it harshly, causing the clasp to snap. Letting the chain fall to the ground, you offered Natasha the diamond ring.
More tears ran down her cheeks as she nodded. “Yes.”
Her lips tasted of salt. Yours were probably the same. But it was no less as sweet as the kiss you shared when you first confessed your love for one another.
Soft whimpers are what pulled you apart.
Looking to the side, you saw Tony and Peter crying beside each other. Peter, the whimpering one, dabbing at his eyes with the sleeves of his t-shirt.
“You had that hanging around your neck?” Tony asked, with tears in his eyes, as the kid bubbled beside him, now using Tony’s shirt to wipe his eyes.
“Yeah.” You nodded. “I’ve had it on me for months now. And I put in on the chain when...” you trailed off, not wanting to finish your sentence. But everyone understanding you anyway.
It’s true, you had charged into the final battle, with the ring hanging around your neck. Keeping it as close to your heart as it could possibly get. With it being one of the last things you had of Natasha, even if she never got so see it, hold it, wear it, say yes, thanks to the compound being destroyed. You wanted- Needed something that reminded you of her.
You had agreed later that night, that you were both going to retire, and finally, live the life you two always wanted together. You had saved the world, too many times to count. Brought everyone back. And saved the universe while you were at it. You both considered that to be enough for you to live peacefully, for the rest of your lives.
After all! If Tony Stark could do it. Why couldn’t you two?

“Hey, guys!” Peter called, walking onto the house, carrying two boxes stacked on top of each other, blocking his view as they towered over him. “Where do you want these?”
“Well, what do they say on them?” You asked.
“Umm... ‘bedroom’!”
“Then it goes in the kitchen, where the fuck- Ow!” Your sarcastic quip was cut off thanks to Natasha punching you in your arm.
You rubbed your throbbing arm as you watched Natasha walk up to Peter and taking a box from him so that he was able to see where he was going.
“Come on, I’ll show you where it is,” she said, leading him out of the room, “Then you can pick out your room.”
“I get a room?”
“Of course you get a room.”
“Thank for helping up, Petie!” you yelled to him.
“Welcome!”
“Oh yeah, he gets a thank you, but what do I get?” Tony muttered entering your house, a box in his own arms.
“Well, I was about to thank you, too. But now that you’ve said that. I won't.”
Tony whined at you as you walked away, to start fixing up some lunch for everyone. Making you smile at his childish antics.

“I still can’t believe the way you proposed to me,” Natasha spoke from the other side of the room, that you were both busy painting.
“Well, give me the ring back, and I’ll do it again differently.” You beamed over to her, noticing the yellow paint smudged against her face and arms. Yellow wasn’t yours or Natasha’s style, but it was for the guest bedroom, and you both wanted that to be a bright place. So, yellow it was.
“No,” Natasha said hastily, pulling her left hand up to her chest, and covering it with her other hand.
You let out a small laugh. “See. I knew you loved the way I asked you to marry me.”
“I’d love any way you’d propose to me because it’s you doing it.”
“Soft.”
“Shut up.” She smiled, picking up her discarded paintbrush again, and throwing it at you.
A large splodge of thick yellow paint spread across the upper part of your t-shirt. Spots flecking across your neck, jaw and shoulder.
A gobsmacked look overtook your face. Slowly, you turned to peer at your red-headed fiance.
“Oh, you wanna play that game, do you?”
“Yes.” Natasha nodded. “Because I know I’d win.”
“Well, we’ll just have to see about that.”

“See, told you I was right,” Natasha smirked over at you in the shower.
“That’s ‘cause you fight dirty.”
And she did.
Once the paint had run out, and the room was covered in the stuff, and not just the walls like you needed. The majority of the paint had coated the floors, luckily, you still had to put down the white carpet. Natasha ran out of the room, in search for more ammunition. Flour, shaving foam, whipped cream, water, and even milk, covered you. Before you and Natasha hopped into the shower together.
“It’s not dirty if you win,” Natasha replied, as she scrubbed her hair.
“No. It is dirty. But you still won.”
“That is the perfect description of me,” Natasha joked, causing you to burst out laughing, at the accuracy of it.
“Yeah.” You nodded. “You’re right there.”

The first night in your new house sure was something. Nothing “spectacular” happened. It was nothing but calm.
After your shared shower, you cooked dinner together. Well, mainly you, because Natasha couldn't cook for shit. As the red-head kept you company and occasionally stirred the pot of pasta.
It was later that night, when you were laying in bed, Natasha curled up by your side, with her head upon your chest, as the tv played in the background when Natasha spoke.
“We needed this.”
“What?” you asked rubbing your hand along her arm, “An early night?”
“Early?” Natasha asked in return, leaning up to look at you like you had grown another head. She was right, it was currently one A.M.. Fixing up the house really was long and hard work.
“-er, than we have in the past week,” you corrected yourself, before shaking your head, then getting back on track, “But what did you mean?”
“I meant this. Retirement. A house. A fresh start.”
You smiled as Natasha got comfortable on your chest once again.
“Yeah... we did need this.”

SAVED WORK
Summary: In all the centuries of your existence, you had never been dragged out of hiding by another god, put in a superhero team and forced to save the universe. But it seems your luck has run out.

11 Days Left
Using the Tesseract to navigate the universe was much harder than you were expecting, but the second you felt the familiar air, you knew you were at least close enough to Tartarus to call it a success.
You coughed a bit, still keeping a tight grip on the Tesseract. “Well, I don’t think Tony will be excited we left his ship behind,” you said, looking around and trying to find where you were. From what it looked like, you weren’t too far off from your mother’s home. More of a castle really, known for trapping idiotic mortals who wanted to test their luck. It never worked out in their favor.
The ground was stone, it looked to be a deep red, almost black color and you could see what resembled a sky above you.
This was nothing like Earth.
You couldn’t have hoped to tell what time it was. A deep red mist blanketed the sky, keeping away any view of the stars or even a speck of the usual purple-black of the sky that you knew. But that was long gone. Part of you wanted the leave. The rest of you knew you were an Avenger. And that meant you were a hero, like it or not. And right now, with the humidity and heat all around you, you weren’t like it.
“This is… not exactly what I was expecting,” Loki said, looking around the same as you, although he seemed more confused. To him, this was a completely foreign planet. To you, it was like visiting your mom’s house for the holidays.
You started walking towards one of the rivers and Loki followed suit. “This is where you were born?” He says. You nodded, looking back at him.
“My mother decided she’d rather raise me on Earth though, and not in the middle of hell. Which is fair.” He seemed to just be taking it all in. It was the one time Loki seemed truly shocked by something. He always seemed above it all, even when he lost a battle. He still seemed like he was in full control, even when he’s chained down. It felt nice to know he didn’t think he was really above it all. That even hell was something beautiful to him. It seemed like something he would say about you.
Was Asgard anything like this? Surely it was more like Olympus. Golden towers and pompous gods walking the halls. But he said nothing about Olympus, and you said nothing about Asgard. As much as you would prefer a sunny, golden city, this was your home.
“Do you know where we are going? What if we cannot find her, I don’t see many other options.” Loki said, starting to back out of whatever thoughts he was having about this place. How to answer that…
“Well, no. I’m not completely sure if she’ll actually be here, but we all have some sort of place to stay. Even if it isn’t the nicest.” You said, gesturing slightly to a cave off of a small river. You could feel small vibrations through the ground, but you kept walking.
You could feel the ground’s heat beneath you and in the distance, there were screeches of harpies bouncing off the walls. This wasn’t exactly a good vacation spot.
Soon enough, you reached what could most easily be described as a house. Made from a similar stone to that of the ground, it would’ve blended in if it weren’t for the small amount of light in front of it, emanating from a lantern of some sort.
“Is this hers?” Loki said, looking on in a bit of confusion. “Different than I expected.” He said, looking down at you.
“No, that’s one of my brothers, Moros. He’s much worse than Ker.” You said, passing up the small house and taking notes of the others in the same area. You siblings.
Off in the very back of small rock ‘homes’, a group of women sat, eating something or other that you weren’t entirely convinced wasn’t human.
You moved through the area, small shouts made you jump every so often. You turned to Loki. “She has to know we’re here.”
You heard a slam onto the ground behind you and some dust ruffle your hair.
Ker was directly behind you, a pair of dark wings on her back. They seemed to be smoking giving off a sort of shadow that mimicked your ability. You straightened up and walked towards her, ready to least attempt to talk to her.

Two more days had gone by, almost three, and Tony was feeling a rather annoying onslaught of different emotions. He was pissed that you left. Ditching? Now? When they needed someone like you to tell them what’s what about the enemy? That would’ve been great. You shouldn’t have left. And now he was just about going crazy worrying about you.
But there was a small part of him that was thankful you went. You knew Ker, her weaknesses and her abilities. If anyone could find a weak spot, it would be you.
Going after the enemy solo is exactly the kind of thing an Avenger does. Saving others even when it’s an obvious suicide mission. That’s something to be proud of, even if it pissed him off. He kept your letter in his back pocket at all times. He tried opening it as much as he possibly could, but it felt more like a steel box than a paper letter. Which obviously wasn’t helpful. Steve had asked every question he could think of when it came to where you were.
“Could you track the ship? Could you track you? Do you know anything?”
And he’d answer the same way every time.
“Hey, if I knew how to do any of that, don’t you think I would’ve done it already?”
Which was true. He had already tried all that. Either that quinjet was seriously flawed or you had taken out the tracker or any way to find you. Both were fully plausible. So for now, he was stuck worrying in his lab, working on two hours of sleep, which, in fairness, is only two less than usual.
“Hey, Mr. Stark.” He heard from the door. Peter. That kid was a relief right about now. But looking at Peter, Tony saw the same tired look that held in his eyes. The twinge of worry behind the slight smile, and the obvious eye circles Peter was sporting. It just made Tony feel worse. Peter was supposed to be the one running around excited that he might fight a god, instead, he was just worried about his friend.
“How you doing, kid?” He said, doing his best to make that sentence sound like he wasn’t from the mid-south.
Peter shrugged. He walked over to a table fiddled with a tool. He laughed just the tiniest bit. “She was supposed to help me with my essay. Don’t think I’ll do so hot now.” He said, doing the best to make light of the situation. Tony appreciated it.
“Well, she’ll be back quick enough. She’s good like that.” Peter nodded. You were good, but you weren’t invincible. Fighting a god on her home turf wouldn’t be fun. But that was your home turf too, so maybe you had an even chance. And then there’s Loki…
Peter sighed. “Do you… do you think Loki will help her?”
Tony wasn’t sure what to say. You knew Loki, no doubt about that. But would he help you? “Don’t know kid. I think so. They were friends, apparently. Maybe Reindeer Games finally got some sense knocked into him.”
That made Peter smile. “Maybe… why did she leave you that letter?” Peter said, changing the subject.
Tony took the letter from his back pocket, lifting it in front of his eyes. “I don’t know. Maybe it was just in case. In case something happened. If she thought she would die then she would’ve said something.” Right? Tony kept the slightly unsure ending to himself. Peter had been through enough and he didn’t need to stress out about something else. Peter nodded along, stepping closer to get a better look at your letter.
“You know,” Tony started, “Leaving a soppy letter isn’t her style. Little Miss Queen of the Night seems like the type to leave behind a lazy voicemail.” Peter smiled again.
“That nickname isn’t bad.” He said, taking the letter from Tony’s hands and examining it.
Tony nodded, “No, it’s pretty good. Way too long though. I’ll get there.” Peter handed the letter back to Tony and backed away slightly.
“Thanks, Mr. Stark. That made me feel a bit better.” He said, turning away and walking back to his room. Tony figured he should get back to work, or maybe take a twenty-minute nap. At least so he isn’t almost falling over.

“Sister.”
“Hello, dear.” She said, looking back at you. The dark wings had faded, leaving behind only a faint semblance of the shadow. She straightened up. She was tall, that was for sure. Easily past six foot, wearing silver and black plated armor. She was ready for a fight.
Loki straightened up a bit as well, staring her down. He glanced at you and his expression hardened.
“What are you doing, Ker?” You said seriously. “All you’re doing is attacking places on Earth with almost no people, leaving behind graffiti. What sort of ‘doom’ is that?” Her eyes narrowed at you.
“Doom is rising, sister. I will bring Doom, and he will lay waste to you all. He won’t wait or avoid people. He’ll kill you all.”
Loki looked a bit confused. “He?”
Ker shook her head. “Doom, God of Mischief. Doom. He will be here shortly and you have arrived at his doorstep, foolish gods.”
Your breath caught in your throat. Did she catch you in a trap? Your face grew angrier before you stepped forward. “I don’t care about doom, sister. You can’t hurt Earth anymore. It’s home to billions of people and I don’t care if you aren’t killing anyone. You can’t go breaking planets because you feel like it.”
She shook her head. “If you cannot embrace Doom, I will show you how.” She stepped closer to you and you looked back at Loki. He looked nervous, more nervous than you’d lose than anything. What if you turned around now? Went back to Earth with the tesseract, let the team help you.
What if you had to kill her?
What if it came down to it and your sister’s life was in your hands. What could you do then? Keeping her alive might be a death sentence for Earth with whatever this doom is. What if you’ll be the one to put a knife through your own sister’s skull.
Your mother would never forgive you. As much as your mother picked favorites since so many of her kids were meant to be evil, she didn’t tolerate bad deeds. She didn’t like death or revenge or doom that could be prevented. Especially when it was caused by you all. Some of your siblings would be happy. Some of them would be horrified.
The answer to your question was that you didn’t know. If it came down to it you had no idea whether you could kill her or not. You decided to let the chips fall where they may.
Ker suddenly ran towards you, pulling out a long staff and swinging it towards your head. You saw Loki step aside and you ducked, swooping your foot out to trip her. Your foot made contact, making her shift slightly then roll to the side, landing on her knees. You felt shadows cover your hands, your eyes had begun to turn gray, but not black as you used a small number of your abilities to summon your scythe. You swung to the blade diagonally, and Ker blocked it with her staff. You saw Loki make a copy of himself and move behind her. She made a move to attack the false him before realizing her mistake and stumbling. That was enough for you to slam the flat end of your scythe down on her back, pushing her down further. You added your foot, putting your body’s weight onto her. She took a moment to push back, causing you to fall backward. You slide your scythe out from under your and flipped over, using your hands to touch the ground. You made no hesitation grabbing your scythe, swinging it over your head and resting it against your shoulder.
Loki had already made another move, running towards Ker with two daggers in his hands, slicing down at her as she blocked every one of his moves, her staff moving quickly between both sides of her body. But all three of you knew she couldn’t keep that movement up for long, and soon a dagger made contact with her skin, slicing it clean open. The wound oozed a deep black, darker than your blood by only a hair. She didn’t let his stop her fighting, although you could see the cut made it harder to move her left arm. It wasn’t a huge advantage, but it would have to be enough.
You turned to Loki, acknowledging how he was gripping his side tightly. You could see a small amount of blood seeping through the stitches you had given him in the morning a day ago. Was it a day ago already?
“Loki, let me handle this.” You argued, using shadows to force Ker back. “You can’t handle it with that wound, you’ll do more harm than good.”
He shook his head and his voice sounded strained. “I’m alright. We can’t just stop here, we’ve gone through a considerable amount of effort.”
He was right.
“Okay, sure. But I can handle her.” Ker rose and you shoved her back down. It was fairly harmless and wouldn’t last long if she cared about getting up. You could tell part of Loki wanted to sit on the sidelines since it took him a minute to respond.
“We started this together and we’ll end it together, my dear.” You shook your head. Stubborn.
“Loki, that most certainly wasn’t a question. Let me handle this. If I’m really in trouble then you can help.” Ker had risen by now and was running towards you. Loki still stood next to you, ready to fight alongside you. You used the shadows to shove him back, swinging your scythe to meet Ker’s staff.
You swung your scythe rapidly and cleanly over one of her shoulders and then the other, landing a few minor blows here and there. She had broken her staff into two parts. In the chaos, you couldn’t tell if that was part of the weapon’s function or if she had literally just broken it in half. Either way, it made it easier for her to handle your swings and not get killed.
You swung over one of your legs suddenly, using the surprise to knock her over and press your scythe to her neck until you saw a dark color stain the blade ever so slightly. One move and she was dead. Well, as dead as she can be.
You looked down at her. You missed your sweet sister. The one who rejected her ability to see death. The one who hated her weapon and how strong it was. That hated the way everything had to go. And now she was preaching about how doom would come without missing a beat.
She looked you straight in the eye. “What now sister. Going to kill me? Doom wave you for that, you know. Have your head, sister. Yes, he will, he’ll have you.” She laughed. The idea of death had tipped her over a bit, making her sound jumpier than she was.
“I’d never kill you. I just want you to stop hurting Earth. And if caging you means that will happen, so be it.”
Ker smirked. “Can’t kill me? Don’t want blood on your hands?” She said, moving closer even with the blade against her. She pushed through the pain and blade itself while you backed it up. She shoved her head forth, cutting into her own throat in an attempt to relieve herself of her head. You took out the blade, feeling the scythe stuck in the bone.
You felt the tears before you realized you were crying. Your heart sank. You thought of your family. The ideas in everyone’s head. The team back how. How can they accept you as a hero now? Steve still had you on trial and this proves you’re really the villain he thinks you are.
You felt Loki’s arms around you and in the now quieting halls of hell, you felt surprisingly calm. His embrace felt lovely. Like a deep breath of air after nearly drowning. Like that first August signs of fall. Like standing next to a waterfall and feeling the mist enter your lungs and settle. Like the smell of cut grass and newly mowed hay on a summer day. A cool glass in heat.
Gloves in winter.
Ice in hell.
The happiness and sadness tore you apart. You were certain that you weren’t just holding on to Loki for dear life because you were upset. You missed him. For centuries you missed him and he never came. His brother did but centuries and he did nothing. And now here he is. Wrapped around your shoulders keeping you so tight that if you pulled away you would see the red marks staining your arms.
You cried. For Ker. For him. For Peter. For Tony.
For yourself.
But this was too easy. Her message of doom and all it took to kill her was some force and a little self-pity. This was not the end.
And as the screams dulled you heard a voice crackle. Like someone had woken up from a year-long nap, voice breaking in the man’s low tone.
All he said was one word to start. He saw you and one word slipped from his lips that and Loki brought you closer.
“Sister.” He whispered, floating on the wind to your ear and poisoning it with its sound.

“Where do you think you’re going?” Colonel Phillips grabbed you as you tried to follow your older brother Steve onto the jet.
“I can’t let him go alone.” You pulled your arm away from him.
“You’ll never make the jump, Y/n!” Peggy pleaded with you.
“I have to try.” You closed your eyes and leaped from the slick black car and onto the wheel of the jet just like Steve did.
It hurt a lot more than you expected but you did it. As you climbed up the wheel and into the room filled with knocked out Hydra agents you breathed a laugh. You were in nursing school when Steve and Bucky had left. After months of service as an army nurse, you were reunited with Steve and Bucky. But a few short weeks later, Bucky was gone. And it wrecked you. So you couldn’t lose Steve too.
“What are you doing here?” Steve gasped as he picked up his shield.
“Making sure you don’t do something stupid.” You crossed your arms.
“This is serious, Y/n. These people aren’t going to go easy on you just because you’re a girl.” Steve shook his head.
“Well then it’s not much different than Brooklyn, huh?” You pursed your lips in anger.
Steve stared Bucky in the eyes, replaying that memory over and over. Wondering how he could explain to his best friend what happened to the love of his life.
“I just want to know if she ever... made herself into something.” Bucky lowered his eyes at the thought of you. “Did SHIELD have any records kept on her?”
“Buck...” Steve sighed.
“What? What happened?”
“Y/n died before I went into the ice...”
Bucky felt like he couldn’t breathe. He knew that the possibility of you being alive now was close to none, but the idea that you were gone for so long... It felt worse than anything.
“H-How?” Bucky clenched his metal hand trying to control his emotions.
“The last mission I was on... I was chasing Red Skull. He was trying to nuke the entire planet. I was losing him... Colonel Phillips, Peggy and Y/n... they picked me up and got me to the jet.” Steve swallowed at the memory. “She must have followed me, she did follow me up there. And then... a lot of stuff happened. Schmidt had the tesseract... he was burning up. He grabbed her and before I could do anything... they were gone.”
The images of you screaming and reaching out for him, flashed in his memory. Before the blue light swallowed you both up.
Bucky sucked in a deep breath before turning on his heel and storming away.
“Bucky!” Steve called out to stop him but the sound of a slamming door was his reply.

It was a few months later, Bucky hadn’t spoken about you since finding out what happened. He rarely thought about you because every time your name passed through his mind, all he could think about was how the last thing you felt was fear.
Ever since Bucky was clear minded, he held hope that maybe you were out there somewhere. Old, surrounded by people who loved you. He had hoped that you were able to move on, marry and have children. He wanted to find you, to see you one more time. But he knew the chances of that happening were slim. He would have been content knowing that you had died of natural causes, again surrounded by your loved ones.
But to know that you died so young... so traumatically. It felt like there was no hope.
Bucky sat silently on the couch while Clint argued with Sam and Steve.
“We need to recover Nat’s body. We can’t leave her out there.” Clint grounded out.
“I’m sorry, man but that isn’t the best move right now. We’re still rebuilding the team up. We lost people. We can’t risk anyone else right now.” Sam tried to explain to him.
“One of the people we lost was Nat. She sacrificed her life for us. For Bucky. For Peter. For all of us. We owe her this.” Clint shook his head.
“What-”
“He’s right, Sam. She died for us. We can’t leave her there.” Steve glanced at Bucky, hoping that he would side with them. “Nobody left me in the ice and we didn’t leave Bucky.”
“Seriously?” Sam’s eyes widened. “This is different. You both were alive. Clint even said their was a guard up there. We’re going to start this fight for someone who’s gone?”
“Tell us about the guard, Barton.” Steve focused on Clint.
“Uh.. He was this tall guy. Dark robes. I couldn’t see much but his face. It was freaky. It looked like he was red-”
“Red?” Bucky spoke up for the first time. “His face was red?”
“Yeah, I think so?” Clint nodded. “Why?”
“Do you think-?” Bucky looked at Steve who had a worried expression.
“It’s a long shot-”
“Friday.” Bucky stood up abruptly.
“Can someone tell me what’s happening?” Sam furrowed his eyebrows.
“How can I assist you Mr. Barnes?” Friday spoke, everyone ignoring Sam’s confusion.
“Bring up an image of Johann Schmidt” Bucky was acting out of character but his mind was racing. If Red Skull was alive, so were you.
“Yeah, that’s him.” Clint nodded.
“Who is that?” Sam asked obviously frustrated with everyone for ignoring him.
“He was the leader of Hydra back in the 40′s.” Steve pursed his lips. “I watched him die...”
“But he’s alive.” Bucky cracked a smile, something that surprised everyone in the room.
“Okay, I’ve never seen him show any emotion but he’s happy because this guy’s alive?” Sam said, once again, confused.
“If he’s alive, so is Y/n.” Bucky spoke, staring at Steve. “Y/n’s alive.”
“We don’t know that...” Steve shook his head.
“Well we need to find out.” Bucky exasperated. “If she is, we can’t leave her up there.”
Steve thought about it for a minute. Weighing the chances of you being alive after 76 years before sighing.
“Someone get in contact with Thor. We’re going to need his help.”
“Okay, who the hell is Y/n?”

Inspired by Doctor Who “Forest of the Dead”

1942.
He’d been sent back in time to 1942.
Tony had found himself in a number of different difficult situations before, but this one took the cake. 
Like many of bad situations in his life, this was all Reed Richard’s fault. He had asked Tony to consult in a time traveling machine, and in an effort to avoid dinosaurs to attacking New York he’d agreed. All he’d seen was a flash of blue light and then he’d been standing in Nazi Germany during WWII where he’d been found by The Howling Commandoes. 
So far it had been a pretty awkward affair. First he’d had to somehow prove that he was not a Nazi, meet his father - who just happened to be younger than Tony right now - and look into the eyes of Captain America before his 70 year long chilly nap. It took some time but he somehow managed to convince them that he was in fact from the future, but since the technology he needed to get back to his time doesn’t still exist he’s been traveling with Steve and his team in search of tech scraps to help him build his own time machine.  
If Tony was being honest, it had been one of the hardest things he’d ever experience. Seeing the man he loved not recognize him hurt something deep within him. This Steve Rogers didn’t trust Tony very much and had only allowed Tony to join the Commandos because he’d been ordered to. 
This Steve Rogers was also in love with someone else. 
It was hard to miss the loving looks exchanged by Steve and Barnes, the way the two of them just gravitated towards each other, the way that Barnes looked as if Steve had hung the moon and stars and the way Steve would burn the world for Bucky Barnes. 
So yeah, not a fun adventure for Tony, and things only seemed to get worse. 
“Rhodes!” Barnes barked his fake name, “we have a bomb that seems to run on the same energy as those Hydra guns. If this detonates god knows what it would do.  We need a way to shut it down.” 
“If that thing goes off it could destroy all of Europe.” Tony worried and began thinking of everything he knew about the tesseract. He needed to shut it down. “Perhaps it could be shut down by using one of the guns and using it to penetrate the force field and using it the bomb to destroy itself, but that would very likely cause the person doing it to be caught in the blast. Not a large blast but the proximity would cause someone to get caught on the crossfire. Plus we would need something to kickstart it.” Tony rambled, he needed to fix this. There was no way he was letting Steve died in the 1940s. Without ever having met him. 
“Steve! Wait!” Barnes howled. Tony’s heart dropped as he saw Steve run into the base. 
“Steve! What is he doing?!” he demanded. Barnes gritted his teeth and continued shooting.
“He’s being and idiot. Cover me, I need to go after him.” 
“What, no!” Tony grabbed his tools and a weapon, “you stay here. I am going to send him back out here and take a closer look at the bomb and try and stop it from blowing up.”
“Rhodes! You are a civilian. Stay here, I’ll get him.”
“No! Someone has to stop this, and neither of you would leave the other behind. Stay here, I’ll send him out.” And with that he ran after Steve. 
“Mr. Rhodes,” Steve said when he came running in, “what are you doing here? You need to get out, go!”
“No! YOU need to get out of here.” 
“I am trying to stop this bomb from blowing up us all up.”
“I’ll have better luck at this than you. Please leave and let me take care of this.”
“Why? Because you are from the future?” and you could hear the disbelief in his voice, “I am sorry Mr. Rhodes but this is on me. This is my job.” 
“Jesus Christ Steve! I get it, I am a stranger and you don’t trust me, but why would I want to blow this us all up? Please! Leave and let me deal with this bomb.” 
“Is not a matter of trust, I need to stop this, and I am a lot more durable than anyone else. Now get out.”
“May you never steal, lie, or cheat, but if you must steal, then steal away my sorrows, and if you must lie, lie with me all the nights of my life, and if you must cheat, then please cheat death because I couldn’t live a day without you” 
Steve froze where he stood and slowly turned back to face Tony who walked closer to him.
“What? Where did you hear that?” his face was pale and his jaw clenched. 
“Steve, one day I am going to be someone you trust. Completely. But I can’t wait for you to find that out. So I’m going to prove it to you, and I am sorry. I am really very sorry.” Tony pulled at the chain around his neck and showed him.
“Those…those are my dog tags…and my…my father’s ring. Where did you get this?” he thundered. Tony pulled them back to his chest.
“You still have yours, probably around your neck, or Barnes to be honest. But these here? These are mine. You gave them to me. In 2014.”
“What? That’s.. that’s impossible.”
“Then how come I know your parents’ vows.” Steve paled further and Tony took his moment of hesitation to do what he needed to do. 
He activated his watch gauntlet and knocked Steve out. Like hell he was letting him die here. Steve remained unconscious while he place super soldier handcuffs on him, nanotech, and began working on getting the bomb deactivated. 
By the time Steve began waking up again, Tony had already hooked up the  gun and the arc reactor in his chest to the bomb and pulled out his phone.
“Auto-destruct in two minutes.” FRIDAY warned from his phone. 
“Oh, no, no, no! What are you doing? That's my job.” Steve yelled. 
“What, I'm not allowed to have a career, I suppose?” he snarked back. 
“Why am I handcu- Why do you even have handcuffs?”
“Spoilers.”
“This is not a joke. Stop this now. This is gonna kill you! I'll have a chance, you don't have any!”
“You wouldn't have a chance and neither do I! I'm timing it for the end of the countdown. There'll be a blip in the power flow. That way it should improve our chances of a clean shut down.”
“Tony, please, no!”
“Funny thing is, this means you've always known how I was going to die. All the time we've been together, you knew I was coming here. The last time I saw you - the real you, the future you, I mean - you turned up on our doorstep with a new haircut and a suit. You took me to SHIELD’s Helicarrier to see the New York skyline. Oh, what a night that was. The city was safe… and you cried.”
“Auto-destruct in one minute.” FRIDAY said. 
“You wouldn't tell me why, but I suppose you knew it was time - my time, time for this little trip. You even gave me your dog tags to keep safe, even though you weren’t going on a mission, that should have been a clue.” The dog tags and ring laid on Tony’s chest, and Steve struggled to break free from his bonds. 
“There's nothing you can do.” Tony said sorrowfully. 
“Let me do this!”
“If you die here, it'll mean I've never met you.”
“Time can be rewritten!”
“Not those times. Not one line. Don't you dare. It's okay. It's okay, it's not over for you. You'll see me again. You've got all of that to come. You and me, time and space. You watch us run.”
“Tony you know those vows,”
“Auto-destruct in 10…"
“And you wear my dog tags and my father’s ring.”
“...9, 8, 7, 6…” Tony played with his phone, looking at the last pictures he had of him and his husband. Because that may be Steve tied to that pole, but HIS Steve, his husband, the love of his life, was 80 years in the future. 
“There's only one reason I would ever tell anyone those vows, and give them that ring…”
“…5..."
“There's only one way I could…"
“…4..."
“Hush, now.” Tony consoled.
“...3, 2…"
“Spoilers.”
“…1"
There is a flash of bright light, and when Steve opens his eyes back up, Tony and the bomb are both gone. 
“Steve! Stevie!” Bucky calls out as he runs into the room.
“…I’m here.”
“What happened?” Bucky shoots the handcuffs and they fall off. 
“He’s gone. He sacrificed himself.”
“Oh. You alright?” Steve turns to look at him, gray eyes stare back at him and Steve debates telling him everything. Because Tony had known his parent’s vows, and he had his dog tags and his father’s ring. The same ring that he knows is safe back in his room, just like he knows Bucky wears his dog tags and his mother’s ring hanging from his neck. 
“Yeah, I’m just sorry I didn’t get to know who he really was.”
———NEW YORK CITY, 2020———
Everything hurt.
He could hear a faint beeping coming from the his left side, that he really wish would stop. He groaned and tried to shut whatever that was, but his hand was being held by another one. Slowly he tried to open his eyes and met a harsh bright ceiling. He blinked slowly and tried to get his thoughts in order. The last thing he remembered was…the Hydra base…Steve…the bomb…Steve…
He gasped. The hand holding his squeeze it. He turned to find Steve beside him a tearful smile in his face. 
“Hello, Sweetheart.”

Warnings: mentions of child abuse because of Howard Stark, mentions of PTSD and anxiety, also endgame spoilers is that applies
Summary:When Tony and Steve took the risk and went back in time to get more Pym particles and the tesseract, both of them knew that they might encounter some old friends. aka I am still kinda annoyed with the scene where Steve watches Peggy and wants to go back and where Tony hugs his abusive father, so I rewrote it

Steve breathed a sigh of relief. That was too close. Ok, he had the Pym particles in hand. Now, he just had to rendezvous with Tony and go back to the future. Bring Bucky and Sam back. Bring his family back. Bring everyone back and undo the damage that had been done.
Voices filled the room, and Steve hid in the shadows.
He listened to the voices.
He recognized one. One he never thought he’d hear again.
And so, the soldier peeked through the open blinds, and there she was. Peggy Carter. Still beautiful, still working, still as amazing as the day he was pulled away from her and this era. She was talking with another woman, something about new alien tech found in some country or something.
Steve took a look around the room he was in. A desk and several frames, pictures and certificates. There was a nameplate. Margaret Carter-Soussa, Director of SHIELD.
Steve laughed a little. Director. He knew she was the first director of SHIELD. But, damn, seeing her talk and direct in the other room, it was something else. He always knew she was special.
Carter-Soussa? She was married. To someone with the last name Soussa. They were lucky, whoever they were.
There were other photos on the desk. Her and her husband. Her and some friends. Her, Howard, and another man. Then, there were the photos on the wall. Along with awards and certificates, there were photos of many people, with plaques that described them.
Bucky had a picture. “A great soldier and loyal friend,” his plaque read.
Then, his picture, before the serum. “Always changing my life.”
Several other pictures were compiled. A guy named Thompson. A woman named Marshall. She remembered everyone who died in service, including him and his best friend.
If only she knew how much she was changing his life. For the better.
Someone else came in to talk to her. A man with a crutch. He greeted Peggy with a smile, and she giggled before sternly telling him something.
Steve smiled. She was ok. She was better than ok. She was happy, and soon, when he gets back to his family, he will be too. He closed his eyes and sighed, thinking that maybe if thought about his happy ending hard enough, that she’d know that he was ok. That she’d know that he was happy.
With that last prayer, Steve took one last look around, said a silent goodbye, and left Peggy’s office.
If he had stayed a few seconds longer, he would’ve seen Peggy look through the blinds and at her office as she tried to explain why she felt like someone was in there just a second before.
Tony would lie to everyone’s face if they asked him how seeing his dad in the 1970’s felt. He would lie, say that he wasn’t bothered. That he knew there was a chance he’d see that bastard again. That he had prepared for it and was calm throughout the entire ordeal.
But he wasn’t. Because Howard Stark was the man of his nightmares and insecurities, and seeing him in the flesh and talking to him about children and how to raise them left a bad taste in his mouth.
Every word that came out of his father’s mouth was a lie.
“Do you have kids?” his father asked him.
And just like that, the bitter taste was gone. Replaced with sweet memories of his daughter. “Yeah,” he said. “A girl.”
“Oh, and how’s that going?”
“Wonderful. She even comes into my office sometimes. We get juice pops.”
Howard raised his eyebrow. “That’s one way to do it.”
Tony scoffed. “Children have a refreshing point of view. My daughter, though young, has already helped me in ways no one else could.”
“She’s gonna outsmart you,” Howard said, as if that was a bad thing.
Morgan? Smarter than him. That would be wonderful. He could see it now. Her inventing ways to clean the Earth or convincing a room full of stiffs of her plan. God, he’d love that. He’d love to see her rise above everyone, mentored by Pepper and Peter and Bruce. Morgan Stark, the modern Albert Einstein.
Even if she didn’t fulfill that vision, Tony knew that his daughter would be extraordinary. He’d make sure that she’d be better than him.
Tony beamed. “I hope so.” He settled into his daydream. “In fact, now that you mention it, I’m going to make sure she’s gonna be smarter than me.”
The elevator doors opened again. Tony patted his father’s shoulder. “Nice meeting you, Howard.”
“Likewise.” Howard straightened his tie and went to his expensive car. A door opened, and that’s when all the air was knocked out of Tony’s lungs. Jarvis. Not Vision-Jarvis or the disembodied voice Jarvis. No, it was Edwin Jarvis, the man who comforted him after verbal fights with his father. The man who beamed when he saw his science project. The man who took him to his small house and fed him when his parents were too busy with other things. Edwin Jarvis, the man who raised him.
“Your car, sir.”
“Yes,” Howard said, “back home.”
“Actually, Maria called. We should go to the hospital for her appointment,” Jarvis said.
Howard furrowed his brow. “Fine, but we stop at the house first. I need to pick up some papers.” With that, Howard got in the car.
Jarvis let out a breath before noticing there was a man in front of him. “Oh, sorry, we haven’t been introduced.” He stood up straight and introduced himself, “Edwin Jarvis, personal assistant to Mr. Stark.”
Tony laughed, trying to hide that fact that he was shaking in his presence. “Howard Potts. Pleasure to meet you, Jarvis.” He shook his hand and smiled up at him.
“I’m sure it’s nothing compared to meeting Howard Stark, brilliant man,” Jarvis said.
“He’s smart, sure.” Tony sighed as he tried to form words. Jarvis had to go, and so did he, so he had to say something good. “But, you’re the one who keeps his head on his shoulders.”
Jarvis tilted his head with a smile. “I mean, perhaps. I just want to do the right things in life.” Jarvis nodded. “I must get going. Things to do.”
Tony panicked. “Wait!”
“Yes?”
Jarvis’s eyes were full of confusion, and Tony did the only thing he knew for sure he wanted to do. Tony wrapped his arms around Jarvis and squeezed tightly. “Take care of the kid.” Take care of me. He pulled away and tried to smile. “Please.” Please, take care of me.
Jarvis blinked a few times. He straightened out his suit. “Of course.”
“Jarvis!”
He nodded at the car. “Right away, sir.” He turned to Tony, smiled awkwardly, and said, “Goodbye, Mr. Potts,” and got in the car.
Tony nodded. “See ya, Jarvis.” He wiped his teary eyes just as Rogers walked up to him, pym particles in hand.

Hello! This is my first ever fan fiction and first post here on Tumblr. This is a story I wrote about two sisters thrown into an alternate reality where some of our most beloved Marvel characters are real. I hope you enjoy! I will be posting each part every Wednesday until it is complete. This is all new to me so any advice would be appreciated.

*Spoilers* If you haven’t seen all the Marvel movies and don’t want anything spoiled, don’t read this.
“Come on Sonora, give it back!” Hope reached for the emerald necklace Sonora held above her head. Sonora jerked it further up and away from her sister. “This isn’t funny.” Hope scowled at her sister. Even though Sonora was younger by more than ten years from her, she was quite a bit taller. “Oh, alright. Good grief, you need to learn to have fun more often.” Sonora rolled her brown eyes. “What you call fun isn’t fun.” Hope snatched the necklace with the single emerald from her sister’s grip. “Well, you used to be fun. But you’ve changed. And it’s not for the good.” Sonora stomped off to her bedroom and slammed the door. Hope felt regret settle in the pit of her stomach as soon as her sister had left. Sonora was right, she had changed. She went outside and walked to her favorite tree. A large maple tree near the top of her family’s property. It was nestled between two other trees, the ground soft with moss and new grass. Sitting on the soft moss she leaned her back against the tree and held up the necklace. It wasn’t like the necklace was a priceless heirloom. She had found it in a thrift shop just yesterday. Its’ gaudy gold clasp held a vibrant green emerald. It was unlike anything she had ever seen. She frowned as Sonora approached her. She didn’t mean to argue with her sister. Sometimes it just happened. “Hey.” Sonora plopped next to Hope by the tree. “Hey,” Hope mumbled back. “I’m sorry.” “Me too.” They sat for a few moments in silence, the breeze stirring the leaves above them. “It is a pretty necklace… in its own way, I guess.” Sonora looked at the necklace in Hope’s hands. “Can I see it closer?” “Sure.” Hope handed Sonora the necklace. Holding it up Sonora inspected it. “You know what it reminds me of? The time stone from those Marvel movies we used to obsess over.” “Huh, I guess I never thought of that. It’s been forever since I thought of those movies.” “Riiight.” Sonora laughed. “Like what… yesterday?” “Used to obsess over? Come on, just because we haven’t watched one in a month doesn’t mean we aren’t still obsessed.” Hope laughed. “Sometimes… sometimes I wish the characters were real. Could you imagine meeting Iron Man? Or Captain America?” Sonora sighed. “Or Spider-Man?” Hope nudged her sister and they laughed. “Yeah, well no use in dreaming about something that can’t ever happen.” Sonora held the necklace up for Hope to take back. Hope grasped the necklace. A faint glow started in the emerald got brighter. “Sonora, do you see that?” “Mmhmm.” Hope and Sonora watched as the stone covered them in bright light until they closed their eyes. Everything around them went dark. “What… what just happened?” Sonora’s voice shook. “I… have no idea. But Sonora… I don’t think we are at home anymore.” Hope’s hand shook with terror. Sonora let go of the necklace. “There’s a light… under what looks like… a door?” Sonora crawled to the door and stood up, feeling for the handle. Once her hand felt the cold smooth metal of the handle she slowly opened it. “Hope, get over here.” “What?” Hope crawled over to her sister and stood. Sonora opened the door a little bit wider and gasped. The two sisters peered out to what looked like a mansion. Glancing behind them they were in a janitor's closet of some sort. Sonora stepped out, glancing around. “Sonora! What are you doing?” Hope whispered loudly. “This place seems vaguely familiar. Like a dream…” Sonora started walking down the hall, where it opened up to the rest of the house. Hope sighed and went after her sister but ran into her when she stopped abruptly. “There you two are!” A loud voice called to them from their right. Turning to see who was talking, Sonora gasped. “We have been looking all over for you two. Come on, we need to get going.” He said. “You’re… you’re…” Sonora stuttered. “Tony Stark?” Hope whispered. “Yeah, who else would I be?” He laughed. “Are you guys okay?” He watched them curiously. Hope and Sonora didn’t say a word and only stared at him. “Did Pepper not tell you the plan?” He looked at his watch. “Pepper?” Hope spoke up. “Yes, Pepper, your aunt. Come on you two. You are acting strange. And we already have a doctor for that.” Hope laughed and covered her mouth. “Ah, there’s a glimpse of the nieces I know. Now come on, we need to get going.” He spun around and the sisters followed him. “Why does Robert Downey Jr. Think he is Tony Stark?” Hope whispered to Sonora. “Don’t you recognize this house? This is the house of Tony Stark from the movies. Hope, we somehow got transported into the Marvel world.” “Come on, that’s impossible….” Hope stopped and held up the necklace from around her neck. “Maybe not so impossible eh?” Sonora nudged Hope forward as they followed Tony Stark to a limo. “Your aunt will be meeting us in New York,” Tony said as he turned to look at them. “Are you sure you two are okay? You’re acting… odd.” He glanced around. “Loki didn’t get you with the tesseract now did he?” “We are fine. Didn’t you say we would be late?” Hope smiled and entered the limo. Sonora sat next to Hope and looked around her with wide eyes. Tony sat across from them, phone in hand. “Ummm where are we going again?” Sonora asked. “New York, to the Avengers base.” He held up a finger, indicating to hold on as he took a call. “Yeah, what do you want. What do you mean Peter flooded the kitchen. How… you know what, I’ll be there in a few hours with Hope and Sonora. Yeah, my nieces are coming with us. Just put Toy Story on and give him popcorn, he’ll stay out of trouble for a few hours. Don’t send him to any quantum realms before I get there. Okay, see you.” Tony set his phone down and looked up. “Now where were we? Oh yes, I thought Pepper told you we were going to spend the summer in New York?” “I… forgot,” Sonora said. “I’m sorry it wasn’t the summer we had originally planned. No amusement parks or anything…” He shrugged. “Aren’t we a bit old for that?” Hope laughed. “I figured I had a lot to catch up on since we haven’t really had time to do much since you two came to live with us.” “It’s fine. I’m sure we will still have fun.” Hope looked out the window and realized they had arrived at the airport. “Alright, it’s time to fly.” Tony grinned and exited the limo as soon as it stopped. “Well… I guess you get your wish.” Hope raised her eyebrows at Sonora. “You may want to keep an eye on that necklace of yours….” Sonora exited the limo, Hope right behind her.

“Here we are, the Avengers headquarters.” Tony rolled the window to the SUV down so they could see better. “Wow, it’s so… big.” Sonora said in awe. “Yeah, well it houses a lot of people now that everyone is here. Have to make sure no one starts a civil war or anything.” Sonora couldn’t believe this was happening. One moment she was sitting in her yard and the next she was at the Avengers headquarters, riding in a car with Tony Stark, who considered them his nieces. The car rolled to a stop in front of large glass doors. Sonora followed Hope out of the car and looked around. A fountain with the Avengers logo was the main focus of the yard just in front of them. “Happy, could you show the girls to their rooms? I need to go talk with Cap about some stuff.” Tony fixed his glasses with his finger and scowled. “Peter, what did I say about eavesdropping?” Peter Parker slowly descended from the roof that was above the driveway where the doors were. Sonora watched as what looked to be spider web, held him up. Her heart started beating wildly. His brown hair, brown eyes, and Queens accent was everything she had imagined. “Sorry, Mr. Stark…” Peter jumped off the spider web and landed on the ground. He turned to look at Sonora and Hope, questions in his eyes. “Peter, meet my nieces, Hope and Sonora. Ladies, this is Peter Parker or as some call him, Spider-Man.” Tony glanced at his watch again. “Well, now you’ve gone and done it. They know my secret identity now!” Peter scowled. “Peter, we are at the Avengers headquarters. Plus, they are family. Could you and Happy show them where their rooms are? I need to get going.” Tony skipped up the stairs and disappeared through the sliding glass doors. “It’s… uhh… nice to, uh, meet you.” Peter said nervously. “Nice to meet you too. Right Sonora?” Hope elbowed her, amusement in her eyes. “Peter, you can help me with their luggage.” Happy plopped two large suitcases by Peter. “Oh, I can get my own bag…” Hope said. “No worries, we will get them for you. Now let’s get you to your rooms.” Happy carried two bags as did Peter. The sisters following behind. Sonora held her breath as Peter Parker walked beside her. She had to be dreaming. She was going to wake up in her room at any moment. And how was she not going to call Peter Parker by the name of the actor who played him in all the Marvel films? Her head started to spin and she realized she still held her breath. Letting it go she felt her lungs burn. No, this wasn’t a dream. She wouldn’t have felt that if it was. They were in some sort of an alternate reality. “Here’s your room Sonora.” Happy opened the door. Sonora stepped into the room. The cement walls and ceilings were softened with a grey fuzzy rug, large pictures of trees in black and white, a cozy sitting area with two grey chairs and a wooden table, and a large white bed filled with plush pillows. She walked to the opposite end of the door and looked out the floor to ceiling windows that overlooked the woods. She turned and looked at them. “It’s beautiful.” “Your uncle spared no expense for your room.” Peter looked around, an eyebrow raised. Happy nudged Peter. “How about you put Sonora’s luggage over there while I show Hope her bedroom right next door. “Alright.” Peter went near the closet she hadn’t seen at first. Happy and Hope disappeared through the door, leaving Sonora and Peter alone. She felt nervous all of a sudden, alone in her room with Peter Parker. “Do you play?” Peter turned and asked her. “Sorry? What?” She stared at him. “Guitar. Do you play? I saw you brought a guitar.” He moved out of the way and pointed to a guitar case. “Oh, yes.” “Can you play something for me?” He brought her the guitar case and held it out to her. “Sure, I guess so.” She smiled and took the case. Laying it on the bed she unzipped it and there before her was the most beautiful wooden guitar she had ever set her brown eyes upon. Lifting carefully from the velvet lining of the case she strummed the strings, the sound echoing slightly in the room. She realized the acoustics in the room were great for music. She sat down in one of the grey chairs, Peter sitting in the second one, watching her eagerly. She started playing the song I Don’t Care and she couldn’t help but sing. It was a catchy tune. “Wow, did you write that?” Peter asked once the song was over. She laughed. “No way. Ed Sheeran did.” “Who?” Peter asked. Sonora bit her lip, confused. “Peter… what year is it?” “That’s an odd question. It’s two thousand and twenty of course. Why?” He eyed her, his brown eyes confused. “And Tony is still alive?” She whispered. “Yes, of course, he is. Why wouldn’t he be?” “But what about Thanos?” “Who? You’re confusing me.” He laughed. “Sorry.” She blushed. “It’s fine, really.” He patted her hand that rested on the arm of her chair. Warmth spread through her at his touch. Sonora had never been more confused in her life.

Just a forewarning, this one has a major POV shift from the past entries, since Reader was Dusted at the end of Fidelity! Keeping with my recent trend in fic titles, it’s named after a track on the official soundtrack. I also constantly watch this Video, and recommend it to hype you up!
We all got ready and got into a car to drive to Stark’s house. Since he had recovered from his misadventure, he had moved out of the city to a beautiful cabin set on the edge of a lake. When we had arrived, Tony was carrying his daughter to the house. His sigh was audible from across the yard.
“Now, we know what it sounds like…” Scott said, having divulged his plan to Tony.
“Tony, after everything you've seen, is anything really impossible?” Steve asked.
“I mean, it still boggles my mind that this character is on our side now,” Tony said, passing a drink to me. “No offense.”
“None taken.” I said, taking one, and handing another to Steve.
“But that disbelief can only go so far. Quantum fluctuation messes with the Planck scale, which then triggers the Deutsch proposition. Can we agree on that?” Tony said, sipping his own drink. “In layman’s terms, it means you’re not coming home.”
“I did.” Scott countered.
“No, you accidentally survived.” Tony clarified, “It’s a billion to one cosmic fluke. And now you wanna pull off a… What do you call it?”
“A time heist?” Scott said, his tone trying to mask his pride.
“Yea a time heist. Of course, why didn’t we think of this before?” Tony mused. “Oh, because it’s laughable? Because it’s a pipedream?”
“The stones are in the past. We can go back and get them!” Scott pleaded.
“We can snap our own fingers.” Natasha added, “We can bring everyone back.”
“Or screw it up worse than he already has, right?” Tony countered.
“I don’t believe that we would.” Steve said firmly.
“Gotta say, sometimes I miss that giddy optimism.” Tony said. “However, high hopes won't help if there's no logical, tangible way for me to safely execute said time heist. I believe the most likely outcome would be our collective demise.”
“Not if we strictly follow the rules of time travel.” Scott said, “That means no talking to our past selves, no betting on sporting events-”
“I’m gonna stop you right there, Scott.” Tony said, “Are you seriously telling me that your plan to save the universe is based on Back To The Future?”
Blushing, Scott squirmed in his chair. “No…”
“Good. You had me worried there.” Tony replied. “Cause that’d be horse shit. That’s not how quantum physics works.”
“Tony…” Natasha said, “We have to take a stand.”
“We did stand.” Tony answered. “And yet, here we are.”
“I know you got a lot on the line.” Scott said, “You got a wife, a daughter. But I lost someone very important to me. A lot of people did. And now, now we have a chance to bring her back. Bring everyone back. And you're telling me that won't even…”
“That’s right, Scott.” Tony snapped back. “I won’t. Even. Got a kid.”
As he spoke, his daughter ran up to him, and Tony gathered her up into his arms.
“Mommy told me to come and save you.” She said into his chest.
“Good job.” He praised. “I’m saved.” Turning to us, he sighed. “I wish you’d come here to ask me for something else. Anything else. Honestly, I… I missed you guys. It was… It’s been a long time. The table’s set for six.”
“Tony, I get it.” Steve said, “I’m happy for you, I really am. But this is a second chance.”
“I got my second chance right here, Cap.” Tony said, hefting his daughter higher up against his chest. “I can’t roll the dice again. If you don’t talk shop, you all can stay for lunch.”
Tony walked into his home, leaving us sitting on the porch. Tony’s words echoed in my head, bringing me back to thoughts about my own second chance. I had my life turned around, only to lose the one who meant the most to me, the one responsible for my newly chartered life-course. My second chance, my only chance, was ahead of me.
“He’s scared.” Natasha said as we walked back to the car.
“He’s not wrong.” Steve replied.
“Yeah, but I mean, what are we gonna do?” Scott said, “We need him. What, are we gonna stop.”
“No, I wanna do it right.” Steve confirmed. “We’re gonna need a really big brain.”
“Bigger than his?” Scott said, confused.
“Quantum Physics isn’t really his thing, Steve.” Natasha said.
“It might be now.” Steve answered, rolling away from Tony’s home.
After a few phone calls, we agreed to meet Bruce at a local cafe. When we arrived, I was met with an uncomfortable reality. Bruce banner sat before us, but… he was distinctly more… hulkish. While not as simple as hulk had been when I first had encountered him, he was also not completely Bruce Banner anymore, and it made for an interesting mix.
“Come on, I feel like I’m the only one eating!” Bruce said, pushing a plate forwards towards Natasha. “Try some of that, have some eggs.”
“I’m so confused.” Scott said.
“You’re not the only one.” I added, fidgeting in my seat.
“These are confusing times.” Bruce answered.
“Right. No, no, that’s not what I meant.” Scott said.
“No, I get it.” Bruce said, dropping his serious tone. “I’m kidding! I know. It’s crazy. I’m wearing shirts now.”
“Yea! How? Why?” Scott asked.
“Five years ago, we got our asses beat.” Bruce explained, “Except it was worse for me. Because I lost twice. First, Hulk lost, then Banner lost. Then, we all lost.”
“No one blamed you, Bruce.” Natasha said.
“I did.” Banner said. “For years, I’ve been treating the Hulk like he’s some kind of disease, something to get rid of. But then I started looking at him as the cure. Eighteen months in a gamma lab. I put the brains, and the brawn, together. And now look at me. Best of both worlds…”
Bruce’s speech was interrupted by a few younger fans, tentatively walking up to him and quietly asking him a question.
“Excuse me, Mr. Hulk?” the girl asked.
“Yes?” Bruce answered, smiling.
“Can we get a photo?”
“100%, little person. Come on, step up.” Bruce gestured for the kids to come closer, passing their phone to Scott to take the photo. “You mind?”
“Oh, no.” Scott fumbled, stretching to try to take the photo.
“Say, ‘Green!’” Bruce said, smiling to the camera. “Did you get that?” Bruce asked.
“Don’t you wanna grab one with me?” Scot asked, handing the phone back, I’m Ant-Man.” after a long pause, Scott smiled awkwardly. “They’re Hulk fans, they don’t know Ant-Man, nobody does.”
“Wait no no, he feels bad.” Bruce said, gesturing to one of the boys. “He wants you to, he wants to… You want to take a picture with him, right?”
The boy shook his head vigorously, the girl giggling uncomfortably.
“He’s even saying that he doesn’t. I get it.” Scott said, miffed. “I don’t want it either.”
“But come on, the kid!” Bruce insisted. “But he… but you…”
“Just take the goddamn phone.” Scott said, practically tossing the phone at Bruce.
“Thank you, Mr. Hulk.” the girl said.
“No, it’s great kids. Thank you very much.” Bruce said. “Hulk out!”
“Bruce.” Steve said, hoping to steer the conversation back to its intended end.
“Dab!” Bruce called after them, causing me to roll my eyes.
“Bruce.” Steve repeated.
“Listen to your mom.” Bruce said, “She knows better.”
“About what we were saying…” Steve insisted.
“Right. The Hulk time travel do-over?” Banner said, refocusing his attention to our table. “Guys, it’s outside my area of expertise.”
“Well, you pulled this off.” I said, gesturing to him.
“I remember a time when that seemed pretty impossible, too.” Natasha added.
Banner sighed. “Do we even have a facility, or a lab?”
“We’ve got the next best thing, an entire compound that’s sitting empty.” Steve said.
“Will you help us?” Natasha asked.
“Of course.” Bruce said. “Whatever it takes.”

Highlights of this movie - 
The call backs to all the previous movies, the little asides that we see from different angles now.  And getting to see so many of the characters that we’ve left behind.  (I’m still bitter about Quicksilver and this movie did nothing for that >_< )
Steve finally wielding Mjolnir like he’s supposed to be able to.  Also, the hammer/axe swap.  
Loki being the only one to notice something is seriously up in That Scene and then being quick witted enough to do something about it, even if it was entirely self-serving.  Seriously, that dude needs to just back away from the Tesseract and stop being attracted to the glowy rock.
Rocket getting the Aether.
The “fuck you asshole comic assholes” Hail Hydra moment.
“So, he’s an idiot.”  “.... yes.”  also, “This idiot?”  “it was him or a tree.”
The convergence of superheroes.
The “fuck you asshole dudebros who couldn’t handle 3 awesome female superheroes on 1 screen, have a dozen more” scene.
We finally got the Rescue Armor and I love it.
Nebula.  Look at little murder baby grow up into a real person!  A still sorta murdery type person, but hey, baby steps!

Howard Stark not being a douchebag.
treating the infinity stones like the ultimate football in an epic game of keep away.
Carol Danvers’ hair cut.
“Your Dad liked cheeseburgers... I’m gonna get you all the cheeseburgers you want.”
“I can do this all day.”  “*sigh*  I know.”
Low points/fucked up points/DID NOT LIKE
Natasha?  Really?  That’s your sacrifice play???  Fuck you, Feige.  Granted, I’m not sure who else I expected it to be, but this?  This I did not like.
You’re seriously telling me that Steve Rogers would go back in time and completely FUBAR’d what was obviously a full, decently happy life for Peggy just cuz he missed her???  Undo any kids/grandkids/etc?  Really?  Mr. Throw Myself on A Grenade to save people I don’t even Like is going to fuck over someone he loves?  To say nothing of how it completely ignores the people he loves in the present time.  Honestly, I disliked how this movie put such a strong emphasis on straight romantic love being the be all and end all and nothing can be right without it.
Continue to dislike Clint/Laura and Pepper/Tony.  (Morgan was cute and I’m glad Clint got his kids back, but I will never like either of these pairings)
Thanos.  I just... I really don’t like him.  They made him work far better than he ever did in the comics, but he’ll never be a bad guy I like seeing on my screen.
Time travel breaks my brain.  I like it as a trope, but I’m always left at least a little unsure about what connections got messed up.
Rhodey not noticing that something was Not Quite Right with Nebula.  I mean, he watched her arm ‘skin’ burn away to the metal underneath and yet... never noticed that she was completely back to normal when she met back up?  He’s way more observant than that even if he is distracted.  
I felt like Carol was underused.  But I also felt that with a few other characters, so... *shrugs*
Points I’m still not sure how to feel about
Strange saving Tony from death to... set him up for death.
I’m still confused about the switch on Carol showing up?  I hate it when the end credit scenes don’t actually match up with the movie it’s supposed to be leading into.
I’m sure there’s more, but my brain is fried and I need sleep.

Mafia!DP and Avengers?
I really like this idea; one of my friends suggested  I try this out, and I couldn’t stop writing it ;w;
An adolescent leaned back in his chair, swirling the wine in his cup as he looked upon the people before him. The wine was a sinfully dark red that contrasted greatly with the bright white hair and aura surrounding the mafia boss, and it smelled bittersweet. Glowing green eyes pierced through the darkness towards his ‘guests’, and a sly grin appeared on his face, “So, I hear you have been looking for me?”
Tony Stark grit his teeth, already annoyed with having to deal with the crime lord, “I know it was someone beneath you that hacked the computers and stole the information. Where is it?” His team stood behind him, al wearing equally frustrated faces.
“Hm, I apologize, but I have no idea what you are talking about,” Danny took a long sip from his glass and motioned to the two standing next to his chair. One was a beautiful young woman with dark hair reaching her shoulders, a dark purple blouse and black dress pants gracing her. She’d be the epitome of innocence and beauty if not for the gun in her hand. The other was a dark-skinned teenager with a dark suit on, his hair pulled back underneath a fedora and a bulge in his pocket that looked like a large phone or a small tablet. His glasses blocked the Avengers from seeing his face. Danny leaned over, letting his slicked back white hair fall forward on his neck a bit, “Sam? Tucker? Do you guys know what’s going on with them?”
Sam gave a small smile, “Not at all, Phantom.”
“Yeah, man,” Tucker sighed, lifting his arms above his head and stretching, “No clue.”
A toothy grin spread across Danny’s face, looking more threatening than pleased, “See? I do believe you have the wrong mafia boss, Mr. Stark, Avengers. Please see yourself out.”
“I know it was you!” Tony growled out. To say he was pissed was an understatement; the Phantom Mafia had stolen valuable blueprints and information about weapons for the Tesseract from a long time ago. Tony was told by Fury that those files were deleted once the Tesseract was back in Asgard! “And I know it was someone in your mafia because it had your symbol all over the files!”
An eyebrow raised on Phantom’s forehead, and he reached up to twist the DP symbol Sam designed on his tie clip. The white gold shone in the office, and Danny ‘accidentally’ shined the light in Captain America’s eyes, relishing in the small flinch Steve made in the act, “No need to raise your voice, Mr. Stark. We’re all adults here, are we not?”
Clint Barton muttered under his breath, “You’re barely an adult.”
“Would you like to speak louder, Mr. Barton?” The sly grin stayed put on Phantom’s face, but one could see the growing anger behind the young man’s glowing eyes, “I don’t think your teammates heard your blatant disrespect.” The archer opened his mouth to speak again, but Natasha nudged him, keeping him quiet, “Ah, yes. Obey the little spider, Mr. Barton. You know it will do you good.”
That got a rise out of the team. Stark frowned and narrowed his eyes at the young and seemingly regal man, “We’re a team! No one bosses anyone around, not like you do!”
A snort escaped the dark-skinned right hand man of Phantom, “By the Ancients, can you believe these guys? First they come in yelling about us stealing files, and now they’re accusing you of bossing people around.”
“‘S pretty funny,” Sam smiled, watching the Avengers with careful eyes. Her lilac irises set some of them on edge, the unnatural color reminding them that even she may be a ghost, “Especially since they don’t know what they’re talking about, huh Phantom?” She reached over and rested a hand on the white-haired man’s shoulder, and he grinned back up at her. Phantom leaned back and placed a light kiss on her arm.
A breathy laugh escaped him, and he whispered to the bodyguard, “Sam, Tucker, I order you to call me boss.”
“Nah, dude.” Tucker laughed, a hand clutched to his stomach, “Are you really trying to pull off the ‘I’m the only one in control’ vibe?” Another giggle left his mouth, and his glasses shifted so the heroes could see his green eyes. Tucker stood up straight and nudged his hat in the Avenger’s direction, “You can’t really mess with three bosses over here, friends.”
Steve narrowed his eyes at the three of them, “The name of your mafia is Phantom’s mafia. Shortstack over there is obviously the boss.” If the statement angered the white-haired male, he didn’t show it. Danny merely stood up and took another sip of his wine before handing the glass to Tucker, who drank out of the cup as well.
“The naming was mutual, I assure you,” The shit-eating grin was still plastered on his face, and it set the Avengers on edge somehow. It looked animalistic and feral, as if he could pounce any time and rip them to shreds. The sharpened canines spilling over the edges of his lips didn’t help that fact at all. He stood in front of his leather chair now, and rested one hand on the front of his desk and the other on the blazer of Tucker, “Now, about those files you have accused us of stealing. What were on those documents that have you in such a tizzy as to break into my office?”
Natasha had a feeling that the easiness of them getting into his office wasn’t coincidental. Phantom led them there and most likely ordered his associates to let them come in without much a fight. But  what was his end goal? The assassin decided that honesty here had to be the best policy, “Weapon blueprints for high energy cartridges. What are planning on doing with them?”
“Oh please, Phantom has enough toys as it is,” Sam grinned, her finger tapping on the trigger of her gun. The warmed metal gave her a sense of assurance, boosting her confidence, “We don’t need more weapons at our disposal.”
“True, true,” Tucker mused, tapping his chin with his free hand. The Avengers took notice of the watch on his wrist, that not only looked expensive, but also seemed to be too high tech to buy on any normal market, “But money is money, you must know that, Mr. Stark. We may have no need for the blueprints if we hypothetically had them, but what if certain employers decide to pawn them off of us? Hypothetically, of course.”
Tony glowered, “How were you able to hack into Jarvis’ system?”
Phantom grinned once again, “My tech crew specializes in infiltrating, acquiring, and destroying files without leaving a trace. Hypothetically, it was easy to hack into your mediocre system.”
“Not easy enough, apparently,” Steve stepped forward, seeming to challenge the evidence of the mafia leaders, “You left your symbols behind. We were able to track your location. Your tech crew isn’t as smart as you claim it to be.”
Now a frown, the first one of the night, fell on Phantom’s face, and his eyes glowed harsher, the green attacking the white until anything that anyone could see was the unnatural radioactive color. A soft growl escaped his lips, “Questioning the intelligence of my team? And I thought you were the ‘family man’, Captain.”
Tucker laughed and set down the wine on the desk before wrapping an arm loosely around the half-ghost to calm him down, “Little crumbs for you to follow, I assure you. How else were you supposed to find us, Mr. Rogers? We only wished for you to be intelligent enough to understand when we ask you to come, government dogs.” The bite at the insult showed Tucker’s anger through his cool persona.
Glares were shot across the desk, no one saying a word in fear of starting a fight no one could finish. Thor looked clueless as to what was going on, but understood the insult well enough, and he clutched his hammer tighter in his fist. The amount of draugrs in the place was putting him on edge, and he hated it. Clint and Natasha both were sliding into fighting stances, not wanting to take chances with the three in front of them. Tony was furious, seeing as the three of them were children, and Steve seemed appalled that ‘government dogs’ was all that they thought of them.
A boisterous laugh broke out, and all eyes turned to Sam, who held her gun loosely in her hand, watching the tense scene with joy, “God, you guys are cute. Just like us when we were little-” Her eyes suddenly went alert, and a hand flew up to her ear, covered by her hair, and she listened to the device stationed there.
Phantom sat down once again with a huff, “What is it, Sam?”
“Nothing too terrible, but Desiree needs some help at the docks. Should I send in Skulker to help?” The Avengers (or at least, those who were present) watched in shock as the tense atmosphere all but disappeared at the calm conversation the bosses were having.
Tucker shook his head, “Send in Youngblood. He’s already stationed near there.”
“I’ve put him near the warehouses, but he can be moved out while Skulker watches the shipments,” Phantom mused, waving at her. His face was contemplative, and he looked at the heroes in front of him with disdain, “I’d go myself, but my hands are tied. Just go and send Youngblood. Maybe Wulf while you’re at it.”
Then a frown set on his face, like a permanent mask. It didn’t seem as if he was truly angry with the team, but the frown was almost like that of a disappointed parent, or a teacher who realized they had to fail a student, “This would go much faster if you just offered me money for your weapons back.”
“So you did steal the files!” Tony grumbled out, “I’m not striking any deal with a megalomaniac like you!”
Sam leaned down and whispered something in Danny’s ear who waved her off. A dark grin came across her face and she left quickly, her boots making large thuds behind her, showcasing the power she held. To do what, the team didn’t know, but Phantom simply smiled at the heroes as she left, “Me? A megalomaniac? You obviously haven’t met my godfather.” He grabbed the half-empty wine glass from the desk, stained at the edges from his and Tucker’s lips and took another sip, “And yes, you will strike a deal with me before I sell them to others across the globe. I’d say a good three million should cover the profits I’m losing by giving these back to you?”
“Three million should work,” Tucker mused, tapping his chin, “But considering how much we could sell it to a certain government agency… You better up the price, Phantom. Hydra is becoming more and more desperate and have already offered up a nice 4.7 million.”
Phantom’s eyebrows rose, revealing more of his bright green eyes to the heroes. He gestured his glass to Thor, “You hear that shit, tough guy? Do you know how much monetary value that is on Earth?” Thor simply sneered at the draugr, angry at it questioning his own intelligence, “Is that frown a no, or can you not understand me?”
A hand was placed on his shoulder from Steve, making him back down before starting anything with the mafia boss. Captain America wanted nothing more at this point than to wipe that smug look off the teens’ faces, but knew that they’d only cause havoc around the world if he did. As ghosts, they had this uncanny knack to destroy everything they came across. Though his suspicions of Samantha and Tucker being spirits were slowly dissipating. Clint spoke, a glint in his eyes at his friend being insulted, “Do you really want to be on the bad side of SHIELD, Phantom? How about the Avengers?”
Tucker laughed this time, snatching the wine back from Phantom before he could take a drink, earning himself a glare, “You guys aren’t that threatening. And trust us when we say all we do is for the benefit of everyone here.” He took the last sip of the red wine, much to Phantom’s displeasure, before speaking again, “Everything is as it should be, right Phantom?”
The white-haired male sighed before nodding, “At least you got the quote right. Please don’t misunderstand my intentions, Mr. Stark. Although I’m giving back your blueprints at a price, the money is needed for other ventures that will further help not only us, but you as well.” At the disbelieving looks he was being given from the heroes, Phantom sighed before simplifying, “You help me, give money, we do good thing, save future, woohoo.”
His unenthusiastic voice washed over the team, who listened to the sarcastic explanation with confusion. Stark almost wished Bruce was there to beat the information out of Phantom. Hey, Phantom was a ghost! Surely getting the shit beat out of him wouldn’t be too detrimental. A low groan threatened to leave his throat but he held it back by pinching the bridge of his nose. Phantom seemed to smile at the fact that he had made the billionaire annoyed with him, as if he had some vendetta against rich people, when he was in fact a rich person, “So you want about 5 million dollars is what you’re saying.”
“That’s what we’ve been dancing around for the past ten or so minutes, Mr. Stark.”
“Done,” He muttered, angry with himself. He knew that if he wanted, Phantom could order in ghosts at anytime to destroy anything he wanted, already been proven that fact when SHIELD had ticked him off, and Phantom sent a legion to destroy a private training base. Five million wasn’t too much to the billionaire, but it was enough to seriously piss him off, “Anything else you want, Casper?”
Tucker smiled, “Well, I have been wanting this new game that’s coming-”
“That will suffice, Mr. Stark,” Phantom smiled, this time it was almost genuine. Almost. There was still some sort of predatory glint in his eyes, like he finally had captured his prey who were quivering beneath him. Tony didn’t like the look at all, “I’m sure the five million from you and the ten million from SHIELD should cover our expenses, don’t you think so, Tuck?”
Natasha narrowed her eyes, the new  information processing in her brain. She had never knew that SHIELD would give Phantom money; and what for? “What do you mean, SHIELD’s giving you cash?”
“Simple,” Phantom’s smile spread, and Tucker’s even widened. They seemed to be sharing an inside joke that the Avengers weren’t in on, and Phantom stood up, casually pressing a button on his keyboard as he did so, “I think ten million dollars for the release of their precious Avengers would be quite the bargain, yes?”
Before anyone could react, the double doors to the office opened, revealing several ghosts who all smiled menacingly at the heroes. Phantom laughed to himself at the shellshocked expressions on the heroes’ faces, “Don’t worry, we don’t need to resort to violence. They are just here in case you… misbehave while I’m negotiating.”
“Yeah, and besides,” Tucker smiled, looking at his watch proudly, “We seem to be right on time! Man, CW is always right.” He looked over at the team, who were all slipping into fighting stances, ready to fight their way out of the situation, “Hey guys? Can we not break the office? This will all be over soon anyway, so enjoy this while you can.”
Thor looked warily at the human before a blanket of darkness seemed to wrap around him. He could see his fellow members falling one by one as a shadowy figure encased them, mumbling sweet nothings in their ears. The god faintly heard Phantom’s praising voice in the background as he, too, began to lose consciousness, “Keep watch over them, Nocturne. Make sure they’re comfortable.” The voices continued on until Thor couldn’t hear anymore, slipping into sweet dreams that made him not want to wake up.
