There are some fandoms where if fanfic writers were at the helm it would be so much better.
I'm reading a fic and, damn, if the events happened in canon like this - it would be so much better. And character growth!
Alas, Fairy Tail is not such a fandom, I fear. I haven't read a rewrite of canon (though, to be fair, the few I read were a looong time ago) that was good. And okay, I always have that gratsu goggles on so that probably restricts things. I wonder if there's a gen fic out there that improves canon. And gives Juvia a personality (or at least a therapist), the girl needs it. We know for sure that Mashima isn't doing that.
I guess I need to pick TbC. I was going to add Phantom Lord arc next. And follow canon loosely but at the same time I'm straying so far. In that story Acnologia is not the biggest baddie. It's something bigger.
Anyone has a rec of a good FT rewrite, possibly with gratsu as pairing? I kind of wish I could do that but, I'm drowning with my stories - and running away from them due to fear at the same time.

SaberTooth.
This guild could have it's own meaning.
HA, FUCK THAT SHIT, ANOTHER GUILD TJAT NEEDS THAT FAIRY TAIL POWER - Mashima, himself.
Kill me.
SaberTooth could have been a guild that willingly represented Strength, the members could have went to that guild to get stronger and then outside of the guild, they could go out, interact, like you can a guild that is mentally, physically, and emotionally abusing, report that shit to the Magic Council, LITERALLY THEY DEAL WITH MAGIC GUILDS AND SHIT, If they weren't used to make Fairy Tail the victims all the time, like when I say Mashima just makes the council annoyingly villainous, it's dumb.
Sting and Rogue (As much as he is my favorite) their existence is impossible and the rushed character development was ass. Sting was a cocky cunt who thought he and Rogue were superior to other dragon slayers, and were third gens or whatever, I hate keeping up with this shit because now their could be twenty gens dragon slayer magic because of Mashima using the fuck out of the element for no real reason, we know he's falling, he just won't admit it. Sting and Rogue got their asses beat by Natsu who was in stasis and did not learn enough??? And back to character develop, Sting who was once a cocky bitch became Natsu 3.0 after Romeo, Rogue was cool, his character made sense although I wish I saw him in a actual fight to know more about him and how he works aside from being a device that works as Stings counter half, and then y'all squabble for stupid reasons,
Minerva, I like you. What you did to Lucy pissed me off but like at the end of the day, showing mercy to her wasn't your plan anyways, you didn't know or care about Lucy or who she was to actually give a fuck about how you fought, love that you didn't falter during Fairy Tail trying to gang up on you. I'd suggest finding back up plans on how to deal with opponents that way you don't get fucked over by plot armor, LITERALLY PLOT ARMOR, Aka Nakagami armor which is seemingly invincible.
Although your trauma is reflecting through your battle techniques, which hurts but makes sense in the slightest, Minerva was acting like Jiemma towards Lucy who you can view as her (Minerva's) younger, defenseless self, and the brutality she faced when her father forcibly put her through training, and the result of the battle was how bad Minerva was.
I like your character, like how you have no connections to other characters within the plot route, your a built different bitch, love that. Your character design after the yeat time skip is the bane of my existence, fight me on my grave, your spin off character is okay, your relevance made me question if this was you sometimes but her maturity makes it seem like her, WHERES HER MAKEUP LIKE WE KNOW SHE'S PRETTY WITHOUT MAKEUP BUT HER MAKEUP IS JUST HER TRADEMARK, I also hc that Minerva was a closeted queer growing up,it makes sense because Jiemma always brought up him needing her to continue his bloodline and so while she was young, she thought she was straight but the more she went on her own jobs, she met women what happens next just feels like she's been on her gay girl cruise, avoiding her ugly ass dad, and not giving a shit about him.
Orga your an okay character, your a mix of Gajeel and Laxus, like you sing horribly as Gajeel which I headcanon my Gajeel to sing 10x better, and doesn't fuck with Jazz. You have lightning powers but your powers are shit.
God Slayer Magic, but you lose to Jura, which I understand because Jura has more experience than the whole cast, but you didn't have more of a fighting chance, moving on to Dragons, I'm surprised you didn't fade those mini hoes like...
Not to mention, your upper half and lower half just contrast, same thing with Jiemma, I have this imagine that Orga in another one of my AU's is a kid that got taught by the greek god Zeus, and Zeus just taught him his magic and how to go around fucking with women and Orga is just uncomfortable but he's like, "You do, you."
Makes me think that Shelia's greek god or roman god tries to keep Shelia away from Aphrodite💀 OH GOD THE CHAOS.
Rufus, your cool, your style is okay and I see what your going for, but your powers just strike me in a bad way because your powers give off oc or readers inserts in Fairy Tail stories from 2014-18, where they have magic abilities that make no fucking sense.
Dobengal your cool, sad you got your ass beat before we cared.
Sabertooth is screwed over so bad post-jiemma. Of course that there would be a change with Sting as the master but still!! They shouldn't have to turn into FT 2.0!! Let them keep their interest in being the strongest guild, competitiveness and even some of their discipline, they don't have to be designated as bad traits and then disposed off once the guild "turns good"!!
I actually kind of find it realistic that the council is fucking useless like most bureaucratic entities, wouldn't be surprised if there were a shitton of accusations made about how abusive jiemma is by ex-members and they just go ignored by the idiots at the council. Then again, considering Jiemma tried to kill a cat as he was throwing his loser tantrum and how he humiliated Yukino, I have a feeling he doesn't let people escape his guild easily.
Sting and Rogue would have benefitted from being introduced a little earlier (or again, if we'd had a breather arc between GMG and tartarus), or even having them cameo when they were kids. We're supposed to think that they used to be Natsu and Gajeel stans and yet we never see any little kids coming up to them for an autograph or anything. I do understand Mashima just needed them to be 7 dragon slayers for some reason, that's fine, just give them something to do, and stop with the dragon slayer generation bullshit "powerscaling", it kept going even into 100yq and it was so stupid, good thing i dropped that shit after 16 chapters or something.
Truly unfortunate that Sting didn't keep his personality after his "redemption" (calling it that even though he was never that much of a villain), he could've been so much by himself and you can still have him become a bit more cheerful without fully wanting to copy Natsu, just keep his arrogance and keep making him a bit of a prick, also don't push aside the fact that, like most others in sabertooth, he also has toxic ideas he needs to work on, he likes to be at the top no matter how just as much as Minerva or other sabertooth members.
Rogue is, like his element, just made to be Sting shadow, then a badly set up twist villain and again just a shadow. Very sad for him. Orga is meh, just another ultra buff guy in possibly insensitive costume with a magic that is never fucking explained. Like, if god slayer magic taught by gods why the fuck is the mythology never explained (bc mashima doesn't care) or if it's just made up by lacrima then what's the point of this magic even being considered special?? Honeslty your au sounds more interesting, FT characters interacting/being trained by greek gods is a concept that makes a bit more sense.
I love Rufus' character design cause he does look like the fruitiest bitch in sabertooth, though it does make me question if he's ever been disrespectful to him cause y'know he's into the toxic masculinity ideals, then again perhaps he doesn't mind since Rufus is supposed to be one of the strongest. Dobengal also looks like a character made just because the teams needed 5 members. Also you forgot Yukino, though it's understandable, she has her own kind of self-contained stuff going on and it's actually the one with less glaring issues going on besides the fact that she starts to also suffer from "nice female character" syndrome and her abuse is not properly managed, she forgives everyone way too easily.
This is where I'll derail into Minerva ranting:
Ok moment for a confession, I used to hate Minerva when I was reading the manga. A shocker i know, though it means she was fullfiling her role as villain perfectly, but here's the thing, Minerva is not constructed the way that other "redeemed" FT villains (actual villains, not just antagonists like Laxus in his first appearance) are, they are always shown to have a tragic past early or throughout the arc they appear in (at least up until that point), the only exception i can think of rn being Ultear, who has a larger arc across the series that for the most part does fit her character. The oddity about Minerva is that her tragic backstory is so rushed in its introduction and appears randomly during an arc that is already so full of stuff and reveals going on, so when I first read those manga chapters I was upset, because it was pretty obvious that Mashima suddenly decided he wanted Minerva to stay around and had to throw in a sad backstory since she's just such an unapologetic bitch.
But after years of mulling FT characters over in my mind, I realized something interesting, that the rushed backstory works to somehow make Minerva one of the most complex characters despite how a lot of it would be internal and she doesn't get to be explored beyond the few arcs she's in, cause despite the fact that she was terribly abused her actions cannot be justified by saying "oh, it's cause she was following her father/was scared of him" because she wasn't!! I mean she was still scared of her father probably, but as we never see jiemma abuse her during the GMG like he does to others, we can assume that she has learned how to stay in his good side, and the joy with which she hurts Lucy and Kagura and fights Erza tells us she likes being cruel, she does believe even a little the toxic shit that has been told to her over and over. She is how she is due to a traumatizing upbringing, but any of the awful things she does and has done were her choice, she still has to take responsibility. Yes, she's a victim but she's also an asshole, she can be both, she has the range.
And one simple apology wouldn't suffice. I know this series has too many fucking characters to give the spotlight to all of them but FUCK!! LET ME SEE MINERVA PUTTING IN THE EFFORT, STRUGGLING AND EARNING HER GUILD'S TRUST. LET ME SEE HER APOLOGIZE AND MAKE UP FOR WHAT I'M SURE WERE YEARS OF BULLYING PEOPLE WHO SHE DEEMED WEAK. Furthermore, I despise Mashima for suddenly showing her post-time skip and turning her into just another same-face nice subservient girl, as if her previous personality couldn't be compatible with her redemption. I haven't read the sabertooth spin off beyond one chapter and looking through other ones to find mangacaps, but I LOVE so much the way this artist draws her, he gets it, he doesn't give her bug eyes or particularly fucked up body proportions. Just *chefs kiss*.
And lesbian Minerva OOF I see you hc her as closeted and i raise you her not even knowing she was into women until she rid herself of her dad. When considering that she wouldn't get along with most people as is, she probably never had any female friendships (or friendships at all) that weren't stained by her need to be the best or by her disdain for "weak" people, so whenever she saw a woman she found attractive she must have thought it was any kind of admiration or, if she ever realized it was something else, she most certainly had some serious internalized lesbophobia and just tried to push her queerness down. Then Jiemma dies and with the guild's environment turning healthier everyone starts coming out cause I'm sure no one in sabertooth is straight, or cis, so when Minerva returns she can stop denying her love for women, also perhaps question her gender, i really like the idea of demi-girl Minerva.

I’d like to imagine that they can go full dragon (I know abt dragon seed and I am choosing to ignore it because Hiro Mashima is a coward)
And so, there’s various stages of it.
First ofc, is normal. They have slit pupils which you can often see dilate (bc that concept is cool as fuck)
Then comes dragon force; Dragon Force I’d like to think is the key to unlocking being able to transform. So dragon force, they’ve got scales.
The next one; I wanna name, but here (and this is the most Erik and Laxus can do; due to being Second Gen) the slayers grow wings, horns and a tail. Here is the fine line between human and dragon.
And this is the stage where the different anatomy comes into play. It’s more obvious in this form.
And they kinda just develop stronger senses here too.
And then finally is the full draconic transformation: Natsu as a big pink fluffy dragon owns my entire soul
Mashing was such a pussy, imagine the shit that could of happen if he did that..
i feel like the third and fourth points technically could be fused together because they are kinda similar. they could yes, have large horns, tails & wings, eyes change but i think they could also turn their feet/legs and hands into dragon claws or whatever and their whole body turns into scales AND then they have the full transformation..
also for the first time it’s quite painful since they aren’t use to it and the pain slowly goes away as they continue to use it.
also wouldn’t they have a mating season faze?? apparently dragons go through it every three years soooooooo

do you have any more nalu fic recs?
Sorry, not sorry - you’ve unleashed more than you could’ve guessed. ^^ Always happy to Recommend a List of Fics ~ And thank you for asking! Admittedly there’s a few Recs that aren’t Nalu - I got excited to share my favs. ;)
A Girl Worth Fighting For: Natsu navigates unspeakable horrors to win Lucy’s love or Natsu goes shopping, looking for the perfect white day gift.
A Lesson: Natsu and Lucy can’t keep themselves from expressing their passions - and the results are bed breaking. Short but smutty - smexy in fact. ;P
A Solidly Constructed Kiss: Erza strong-arms Lucy and Natsu into working the Kissing Booth to raise funds for a school trip. Lucy’s never been kissed and Natsu acts like he’s never entertained even the idea of kissing another person. Things naturally come to a head when Lucy and Natsu are given the task to build the actual booth; will they fight over construction or build themselves some kind of relationship?
Fairy Tail Week: A collection of drabbles from tumblr prompts to celebrate Fairy Tail. Fairy, Ladies, Lads, Magic, Guild, Ultimate Team, Stronger, Mashima, Tail. Only rated teen to err on the side of caution, family friendly content featuring most of the Fairy Tail Guild!
Feathers and Scales: Angel/Demon AU. Devils are more than they seem and Angels no less. Pitted against each other in a never-ending battle for souls, a single Angel and Devil trade mercies and fall in love. Warning: major character death(s).
Full Moon Secret: Natsu had wanted to tell Lucy his secrets, to share his family history with the fey…it had just never been the right time. Tonight the truth was going to be revealed, one way or another.
Okay, I could just keep hyping all of my own fics individually - but I won’t - other than to just put in a link to ALL OF THEM. ;) Fair warning, I have a few other fandoms works in all the Fairy Tail stories - from Brooklyn 99 to The Flash, Snow White with the Red Hair, RWBY, Blue Exorcist, Teen Titans and some Hakuouki. Yes, I’m a shameless self-promoter. Speaking of that - one more I need to rec!  Natsu’s Stars in Lucy’s Sky. I swear Imma finish this.
I also have more than a few favourite authors who write for Fairy Tail (and other fandoms) ~ some have not contributed lately to Fairy Tail or chosen to concentrate on other fandoms - but I like them and their excellent writing.
ObsessedwithNalu: One of my first fandom friends and pretty much any of her FT stories is gold. @obsessedwithnalu
Christmas Treats: Admittedly a gift to me and very cherished for that fact - and - it’s frigging awesome. Lucy does a little holiday baking at home before Fairy Tail’s Christmas party. Natsu, as always, is there. One thing leads to another…
Thanks, Krov: When Krov decided to relax at his favorite bar after work, he never imagined that he’d be seeing some of his old guild members, especially since he thought they had died long ago. Nalu fluff.
Edo-Nalu love fest: Submissions for the Nalu love fest week of 2014. But instead of regular Nalu, these ones feature Edo-Nalu. Smut-tastic and delightfully mature.
ImpracticalDemon: Another early fandom friend who’s still writing this, that and the other thing - and she’s just GREAT. Again, a link to all her works and a few that are special to me follow. XOXOX @impracticaldemon
May the Best Man Survive: “Gray would never have in a million years thought he’d host Natsu’s bachelor party (Nalu pairing). Why is it his job to herd the bunch of rowdy mages from bar to bar, ending up at the guild where the real surprise party is? Oh yeah, the idiot had asked him to be the best man at his wedding. Hijinks, chaos and hilarity ensue.” ^^ A prompt supplied by me and I’m smirking so wide because the fic Imp came up with delivered more awesomeness than I could have hoped for!
A Star At His Side: “Accidentally Fall Asleep Together” for Endragoneel on tumblr. Natsu and Lucy spend the day together at a festival in Magnolia. Natsu ends up watching more than just the stars when the festival is over…
Christmas Gifts: When Erza walks Wendy home from the Guild’s Christmas Party, Wendy realizes how alone her friend and mentor is feeling. She sets out to recruit Lucy, Natsu and the rest to break Jellal out of prison for just one night, as a Christmas gift for Erza. Meanwhile, Natsu has accidentally burned some of Lucy’s writing. Will she forgive him?
Dark Shining Light: One of the best and most welcoming writers I have ever interacted with! I’m still gobsmacked she’s a friend! She’s a legend and I don’t know what else I could add to any discourse about her writing - but the classics are classic for a reason, yeah? Here’s a few of my personal favourites of her works and just know there’s too many to list them all! AKA @ff-darkshininglight
Mischievous Cat: Let’s just say there have been a few incidents where Happy has come in at a bad time.
What Belongs to a Demon: Everyone knew she belonged to the great demon lord and she would prove that she deserved to stand by his side.
The Truth Revealing Cards: Lucy should have known if there was a card that would reveal her secrets, Natsu would want it.
Eliz1369: Got introduced to her for her Hakuoki fics but she’d dipped her toes into FT as well ~ and this is a great fic. ^^ @eliz1369
The Light of Fairy Tail: The members of Fairy Tail may be their own brand of crazy, but their hearts are always in the right place.
rougescribe: Shame on me for not reading more of this author’s works! @rougescribe
Fire Sprite No 5: For him, Heaven wasn’t a place or a single moment in time. It was a feeling built on memories upon memories, past and present and a hope for future ones all tied down together. All sharing one common denominator: Her. Nalu. Tumblr Valentine’s Event.
Fallen Ark Angel: Admittedly I only have interacted from afar with this writer. I mainly read Nalu fics but I love her take on Mira and Laxus and her next gen offspring characters. She’s got a lot to offer and it’s all superb. @fallen029
Loving Satan: Loving Satan is never easy. But when she loves you back, its twice as bad.
Madartiste: Another one-sided love affair with someone else’s writing. And her stories are all wonderful and prolly appear on hundreds of Fic Rec Lists - but here’s one of my Favs! @madartiste
Hoarding: Getting interrupted gets old fast.
UranoMetria: I added her to my stable of fav authors 05-03-2014. Wow. Eons ago and even if I’m not sure she’s still active in the fandom, I salute her. Kudos.
The Goddess Gate: With six years of partnership, Natsu and Lucy are torn apart by a mysterious visit from a secret magic council. Lucy is kidnapped and her memories suppressed. She fights her way back home to regain her life - with a startling secret revealed as she begins to remember. The lives of all Earthland hang in the balance. **Okay, this is a wicked old fic - but amazingly written and fuelled my own desires for writing. Last updated in 2018 but who knows? Some current attention may slay any demons on her back in regards to writing - and even if not - the hours of enjoyment reading this is worth giving a comment just to say, ‘thank you for writing.‘
Wild Rhov: Do I even need to say anything about this author? Famous, famous, famous. Excellent. Writes a lot of pairings and fleshes every relationship into something REAL. I Can’t Even. @wildrhov
Beastly Possession: Something is murdering people in Magnolia. When Lucy is attacked, Natsu goes on a rampage to find the culprit, and everyone in Fairy Tail wants revenge. But could this bloodthirsty attacker be someone they know? Warning: High octane nightmare fuel! Do not read while eating, and beware of red eyes in the dark!
Shell1331: Introduced via Imp. This writer is in a few fandoms and is worth reading. @shell-senji
Juicy: Impulsivity and poorly chosen words get Natsu into more trouble than he’d expected, which is saying something for him.
AbsentAngel: Everyone should know this writer. Been stalking her since 2014 so that says something. Tho, it’s prolly just that I’m creepy. ;) My suggested fic here is being re-written/has been? into something original and worth being purchased when it becomes available and re-read over and over. No, I am not being paid to shill but I am open to having senpai notice me. @absent-angel
To the Flame: She stares, transfixed, as the blood runs down his fingers and begins to pool in his palm. He holds his hand up to her lips in offering, and she tears her eyes away from the blood to study his face. He is smiling softly. “Go on Luce, I didn’t cut them for nothing.” [Vamp AU]
HawkofNavarre: Loved for awesome and delightful Gruvia content. Looks like there’s a tumblr but I can’t manage to link it. :(
You Stole the Rain: He just wanted to be friends; fine, she just needed to change his mind. Gray x Juvia
Ricardian Scholar Clark-Weasley: Not sure I spelled that right even after checking three times! I usually short hand that to RS-CW in my head. And she’s prolific - has a tonne of fandoms and is a tower of talent. Is anyone reading all my fangirl gushing? 'Cause she follows one of my fics and comments (sorry I haven’t updated that fic in a while) and it’s a source of happiness that someone who writes so well happens to enjoy some of my content. Okay, bragging over - back to the Recs!
Tales of Fairies: A collection of oneshots exploring different friendships, ideas, sad themes, comical scenarios, and lots and lots of pairings…but mainly Nalu.
snogfairy: Another giant in the FT fandom. Impressive talent. @lineffability
naughty nalus: smutty nalu oneshots B) ***Mature content!***
Rivendell101: Another giant in FT and other fandoms. This author would be considered required reading if I ran a fandom course in a University setting. Just sayin’ @rivendell101
Crave: /krāv/ Verb. To feel a powerful desire for (something). They crave each other. And satiation doesn’t come easily. He growls against her again. “Beg for it,” he demands, lips ghosting against her.
Lakerae aka @hidetheremote : Did you think I’d forgotten you? Ha! Gotcha good! You’re an inspiration to me because you’re working so hard to publish your children’s books. Kudos to you li'l sis! You’re busy but still make it a point to talk to me and I love you for that and everything.
The Gift of the Magi: A Gajevy Twist: A retelling of the classic Christmas story “The Gift of the Magi,” with your favorite Fairy Tail couple Gajeel and Levy! It’s Christmas time and Gajeel and Levy exchange gifts. They both are surprised what they receive and learn a lesson of the true meaning of Christmas.
I could add more and more as I search my saved favs on FF.net ~ and I’m sorry to not include all of them - but this is crazy long as it is. If you read and like any of the recommended fics, please be sure to let the author know. To the authors of these and all fanfics, Thanks for everything.

My Thoughts About the Edens Zero Video Game Announcement
Well, I’m pretty sure I’m not the only one in the fandom who didn’t really see this coming...but, okay! xD
In case you were out of the loop, Hiro Mashima made quite an announcement on Twitter, yesterday, where he announced a new video game based on Edens Zero.
...No, you did not read it wrong. It’s not another Fairy Tail video game—nor one for Rave Master, for that matter. It’s actually based on his latest (and current) series! Furthermore, this game will be developed by Konami. There will be more details of it, at the Tokyo Game Show, on September 26.
As I mentioned it at the beginning of this post, I was honestly quite surprised when that announcement happened. With this kind of unexpected news out of the way, ‘though...I have a few questions/concerns of my own, about it.
Firstly, the timing of the announcement. A few months ago, back in June, the anime adaptation of this series was officially announced. Ever since that announcement, however, we still don’t really know a whole lot about the anime adaptation. We don’t know which production companies are officially confirmed to be in charge of it. We don’t even know which voice actors will be cast, to voice the characters in the anime.
There’s just these major kinds of unknowns about the anime adaptation, so far. So, to have a video game of this series be announced this early, just makes it very odd, in my personal opinion. Again, we still don’t know which voice actors will be cast for each character. Hopefully, this question does get addressed, sooner, rather than later.
My next concern about this announcement, is what the Edens Zero game will be. As aforementioned above, Konami is the developing studio that’s producing this game. Now, Konami is a well-noted video game company, for the right reasons—and, the wrong reasons. If you’ve ever followed up on what that company’s been doing, for the past few years, or so...you’ll notice that they are well-noted for the latter, rather than the former.
There’s all these jokes/memes going around, about how they treat their past/current IPs—case in point, their pachinko games. Although, for all the jokes made about them, that is seriously my main concern about this latest announcement. Now, I don’t think the Edens Zero game will be a pachinko game (at least, I hope not!), but I fear that it will be a watered-down mobile game, filled with ridiculous microtransactions.
Personally, I’m fine with the EZ game being an action RPG, or a traditional JRPG—with turn-based combat, much like in the first-ever mainline Fairy Tail game. I actually liked the open-world design of that game, too, so it would be nice to see that in the EZ game, as well.
My other concern is how well this game will be, on a technical scale. At least, more on the quality of the gameplay, and graphics. While I’ve had some fun playing Fairy Tail (2020), I did feel that maybe the developers could have spent more time on making the experience more polished, overall. Issues with mouse support, aside, I noticed that—despite being an open-world adventure—there were some areas of the world that weren’t all too lively. An example of this can be found with some of the non-playable characters not being animated much.
Given the confirmation that Mashima himself consulted with the developers of that game, I’m hoping that he will also take a similarly-significant role in the development process of the Edens Zero game.
Lastly, and this isn’t much of a concern, as the other two above...but, it’s all about which platforms this game is coming to. Going back to the Fairy Tail game example, again, it’s worth noting that FT came out on the PS4, the Switch, and the PC (via Steam). With the Xbox Series S, and X, and the PS5 coming out this November...it remains to be seen whether that game is going to be out on those next-gen consoles, on top of the previously-mentioned consoles, and the PC.
I’ll have to admit, this wan’t a post that I planned on doing. However, the latest news of an EZ video game being confirmed that quickly, had just blindsided me. My questions and concerns are still valid, ‘though, so I’ll have to wait and see for any more news about it (including the TGS updates).
...But, what do you think about this latest announcement?

dear yuletide author
Thank you so much for reading this and taking part in this wonderful annual conspiracy!

First of all, I hope you have a lovely time! If any of the fandoms below pique your interest, I’m delighted already, and ready to hear all the stories you want to tell.
Fandoms:  Chihayafuru, Nirvana in Fire, Thunderbolt Fantasy
As for reading preferences, I’m happy with a wide variety of tones and genres, of any rating, ranging anywhere from lighthearted antics to dramatic casefics. But the core of all the stories I love has always been character interaction and interplay of their competences.
How the characters play off each other and bring out their best/worst, how they’d react to a divergence of events, how true they’d stay to themselves in a different setting – I love fanfiction for allowing us to reconnect with our favourite stories time and again by asking these questions. And there are so many ways to do it! To name a few favourites, I’m always game for POV hijinks, a missing scene, a casefic, canon expansion, backstories and what-ifs.
You may notice that quite a few of my requests lean towards shipfic – those, too, are welcome in a variety of tones – but I also tried to include openings for gen ideas if that’s your jam. Additionally, while it is not usually my top interest, I don’t have anything against AUs if there is something that you are itching to explore: I tend to enjoy them for a new aesthetic that fleshes out the favoured character dynamics in a new light, or a fusion that redefines the playing ground to allow the characters to exhibit their core competences in new and exciting ways.
I would be very grateful if you could avoid a/b/o and similar kinktropes, played-straight soulmate fic, and character interpretation that runs contrary to their core values. If in doubt, please reach out to me on anon - the askbox is open!
CHIHAYAFURU: Mashima Taichi, Wataya Arata, Suou Hisashi
You don’t have to include all three characters, but I’d love to see a fic that explores the connections between them better. I’m up to date with all manga scanlations.
Wataya Arata/ Mashima Taichi
In the immortal words of Henjin Meijin, Arata is that person for Taichi whose opinion makes or breaks him. (His wording may have been different, but if I go rummaging into the chapter archive to find the exact quote, I’ll end up binge-rereading year three into the night again, and then where would my Yule sign-up be?) (On that note, what kind of a MASSIVE LOSER waxes poetics about Taichi’s boyfriend problems to Taichi’s MOTHER, whom he JUST met? Suou Hisashi, that’s who.) Needless to say, that paramount opinion was not always great, and neither was Taichi’s general wellbeing.
Good news is, Arata is confident in his manliness, and he has no problem acknowledging Taichi’s ridiculously pretty and not too bad at karuta these days, and he’s also moving to Tokyo. Taichi’s definitely pretty and has an apartment in Tokyo, where a country bumpkin of paramount importance may possibly stay over until things are sorted out… eventually. Hint hint.
Jokes aside, I pine for the dynamics between the two of them. I nearly lost it, reading the Meijin semifinals — and if you can show me a person who saw them bawl as they crawled into each other’s laps on Japanese national television and didn’t bawl in response, well, that person is sure not me.
I’d like to see a story that lets them build and explore that connect. I do not object to eventual OT3, but I think Chihaya is on a quest to find her own footing and pursue other goals at the moment, and I’d really like it if she was allowed to do this (join forces with Shinobu to drag karuta into a professional league, girl!). I’d like to think that in that space, different bonds and relationships can develop and strengthen, starting with Arata and Taichi.
Taichi the overanalyzer, the hardworker and the looker, the golden boy who at some point surely hit that red button, meme-style: you will be perfect at everything, you will have everything, except the one thing that you want above all. Arata appears to be his perfect foil: steady and serene where Taichi’s scrambling and flawed, adorably awkward and disarmingly sincere where Taichi’s groomed, smooth and miserable about his own deceptions. But they don’t see it like that! And they keep tripping each other up so beautifully!
I’d love to read your take on them growing closer and hopefully smooshing their faces together. Roommates in Tokyo? Long-distance friends? Figuring out how to tell your flatmate you’ve been in love with him since you were 12? Established relationship while hijinks happen? AWKWARD THIRDWHEELING WITH SUOU?!
On that note:
Suou Hisashi & (or / - wejustdon’tknow.gif) Mashima Taichi
I cannot believe that ridiculous man. Did you see a grown ass adult swoon because his unrequited disciple I mean not-friend I mean Taichi just up and went to meet his relatives??? To  help reconnect them?? One can do things like this?? What next, being able to make phonecalls like an adult??
Does not compute.
I was there, Gandalf. I was there when the story first indicated that we might be getting an unlikely team-up of the world’s weirdest Meijin and Tokyo’s most miserable overachiever. But even in my wildest dreams I did not dare hope to see them sprawled on the carpet on a humid summer afternoon, Taichi comfortable in his own skin and Suou, erm, probably not very comfortable with his fascination :D He did not sign up for this. He, a grown ass man in what must be his early twenties, is too old for this youthful seishun sakura bullshit. And yet it is he who mournfully accosts Taichi’s mom to talk about how this other boy is paramount in Taichi’s universe. He who gets offended because Taichi knowing how to adult and work the social ropes is too sexy and competent. He who finds something compelling in the painful struggle of genius and skill.
Arata - Taichi - Suou
For maximum indulgence of yours truly, bring those into one place. Arata coming to Tokyo and finding Suou a fixture in Taichi’s life how?! Suou being infinitely pissy at the Fukuyi upstart and yet dragging himself to socialize with the boys regardless like a totally-not-pathetic adult with a social life of his own? Arata being mildly puzzled about the antagonism, but in there for the sweet snacks?
You tell me! I delight in my anticipation.
NIRVANA IN FIRE: Mei Changsu, Xiao Jingyan
Is this a complex, narratively inevitable historic tapestry strangling people with its treads, full of delicious politicking and identity porn? Yes, it is.
Is my burning – nay, primal – desire so simple as to smoosh two faces together and watch them kiss? Yes, it is :’)
I mean, I will obviously not say no if the kissing is giftwrapped in the said tapestry of beautiful, politicky plot, but the fever I can’t get out of my system is this: LET THEM KISS, GODDAMMIT. LET THEM BE HAPPY. I welcome canon divergences, alternative endings, fix-its, insert eps and codas where it looks like they would have kissed (erm, or at least confronted each other in a way that would inevitably end with them making out) if only Mei Changsu wasn’t so caught up in self-loathing and fluffy foxfur coats, and Jingyan didn’t talk too loudly about his so dead, so very dead beautiful ex to hear Mei Changsu weep stoically into his beautiful white furs.
I adore Prince Jing. He is 90% cheekbones and 20% heartbroken pouting over his so very dead friends, and all of it noble and awkward and stubborn and deserving of happiness. Mei Changsu is ridiculous, and capable, and twisted into pretzels of his own creation: not above gloating over his enemies while daintily dipping cookies into his tea, he gets too caught up in weaving the tapestry to notice he is a part of it.  Pull him off his high horse, Jing! Render him helpless by being yourself! Do something about being hopelessly charmed with each other, through resentment, loss, bitter pining, and narrative inevitability! JUSTKISSALREADY.gif!!
THUNDERBOLT FANTASY: Rin Setsua; Sho Fukan
I LOVE THIS SELF INDULGENT WUXIA NONSENSE AND I CANNOT LIE!
Sanfan is a mixture UTTER GLEE and deep fondness for the genre staples, self-aware and masterful playthrough of all the wuxia tropes in the book, and one goddamn well-constructed story. It plays the tropes straight, calls them out with a knowing wink, walks the tightrope between the two with panache, and just as you are relaxed and enjoying this trapeze show, it grins cheekily at you, sets the discoball on fire and pulls a bunny out of a hat.  It’s DELIGHTFUL and fun and lovingly crafted, just like a good passion project should be.
I want anything that capitalizes on the absolutely hilarious dynamics between Rin Setsua and Sho Fukan (and while personally I end up using the Japanese versions of their names more often, please feel free to go with the Chinese names if you prefer). Sho Fukan does not want any of those heroic quests, he’s the human equivalent of been there, done that mood, and he just wants to REST and hopefully dump a bunch of magical murderswords someplace safe. Rin Setsua is a Totally Respectable and Non-Villainous Member of Society, of which he will inform you firsthand in the most high spoken and verbose way possible, and maybe even produce paperwork that has definitely not been tampered with. He harbours no ulterior motives, ever, and does not trail behind Sho Fukan for any reason beyond the pleasure of his company, and his mission to personally victimize and cockblock every morally derelict villain in two countries, by no-one’s request.
Whether you go shipfic (yiss!) or canon levels teamup circus (also yiss!), don’t hold back your horses. Everything about this is Extra, and should continue to be so <3
I am okay with both expanding the canon and playing with AUs/crossovers/fusions for this one, provided they retain the character dynamics. I love the extended cast as well: any characters including the Seiyou gang (and on that note, if you want to write the Seiyou backstory for Shou’s gang that has no Rin in it, you’re welcome as well), reappearance of the familiar faces from Touri (read: Rin’s victim list, past, future and present), original characters lined up and waiting to be screwed over (guaranteed) and rescued (the administration does not bear any responsibility etc etc).
Thank you for taking the time to read the letter, and I’m greatly looking forward to reading your story — and hopefully, getting to chat about these ridiculous and wonderful characters post-reveals :)

Hey all, Dani here.
Wow, well I guess here we are at another wrap-up post where I end up combining my weekly wrap-up and my monthly wrap-up. That doesn’t happen too often, but it makes things a bit more fun/chaotic for me.
Umm…what have I been watching recently? Gosh, I don’t even know. My days have been starting to blend together. Oh, I can tell you what I will be watching very soon…as in the next day or two. First up, “Critical Role” is back tomorrow for episode 100. They have been off the air since like March, and it will be nice to watch some of my favorite voice actors play D&D again. And then on Friday “Hamilton” is dropping on Disney+. I have been wanting to see this show for four years now, and while this won’t be in a theater watching a live performance, it will be the main cast and is a recording of a live performance. So I’m super excited about that.
Most of my weekly wrap-up stuff will be discussed below, like what I read in the last week, and what I’m hoping to read soon. So I guess I’ll just talk about what I’m currently reading.
As usual with my monthly wrap-up, let’s start off by checking in on my overall goals for the year.
Reading: Well, I finished 27 books in the month of June, so I’d say it was another pretty decent month of reading…though 6 of those were single issue comics, 4 of them were volumes of manga, and 5 of them were children’s picture books. Still, I read a few incredible reads, and only a couple just okay reads, so I’m going to say it was a good month. So that puts me at 154 books read for the year so far, which I think is pretty great.
Blogging: I did all right on blogging this month. I’m still trying to figure out my time management so I can get things done in a timely manner, because I can admit that some of my posts have gone up late, or I’ve finished them and thought they were scheduled for publication and instead I guess I just hit save draft, so it doesn’t go up when it’s supposed to…and then I don’t realize it until days later. That hasn’t been fun. But I will get it figured out. I still have a lot more content to send your way. Oh, and because I’ve been busy and it has continuously slipped my mind…I hit 800 followers…I think it was a few weeks ago. THANK YOU SO MUCH!! I honestly can’t believe that my blog has that many people following along. And to go along with that excitement, I reached 1,000 blog posts a couple weeks ago as well, which also feels like a pretty big milestone.
Writing: Well, with juggling two jobs and reading and blogging, my writing somewhat got shoved to the back burner. BUT I am happy to say that I’ve just started the Colorworld Creativity Club over on the Colorworld Live VIP group on Facebook, and it is a place for people who are working on creative projects–whether that is poetry, novellas, short stories, novels, screenplays, music, artwork, etc–to get help working through any blocks, as well as a place to have a support system to hold us all accountable for actually making progress on our projects. I’ve set myself a goal of 20,000 words to write on my novel for the month of July. Now let’s hope that the CCC can hold me to it.
Conventions: While in-person Gen Con was canceled, they are holding Gen Con Online on the same days, so that should be pretty interesting. Plus, Damian and I booked a hotel room in Indianapolis for those Gen Con Online dates, so we can get out of town for a few days (and have lovely reliable hotel internet). We’ll probably still do a few of our usual Gen Con stops as well, like going to the comic book store–obviously staying as socially distant as possible, and wearing masks in public. And we’re still hoping that Cincinnati Comic Expo in September will still be good to go. My friends at Colorworld Books have actually started doing Colorworld LIVE convention style events just about every week, sometimes two a week. They gather up three or four awesome voice actors, hold a livestream panel, then a VIP panel for anyone who buys some signed merch, and of course you can get shirts, metal art prints, and more with characters these actors have portrayed. It’s pretty cool.
Okay, now that the general month wrap-up is over, let’s go ahead and jump into the specific reading wrap-up. As always, if I have a review up already then I will include the link to it. So, let’s go over everything I read in June.

Now it is book haul time, and I’m starting with my digital book haul, because I picked up quite a few e-books this month, due to sales, or physical books being back ordered, or because I have a bunch of books to read for blog tour reviews. So I’ll go over my digital haul before jumping into my physical haul.
Okay, now for the physical haul.
Next up is the OwlCrate Unboxing.
Finally I suppose it’s time to talk about my July TBR. Unfortunately I don’t have a completely set TBR for this month. There are a handful of books I need to read for review, and then I have stacks of books that I’ve been eager to read for a month or so now, and just haven’t had the chance yet. So I have a bunch of options.
Tumblr media
Here’s some reads I can definitely say that I’ll be completing in July: Mayhem by Estelle Laure (I have a blog tour review coming July 14th), Shielded by KayLynn Flanders (review coming July 18th), Lobizona by Romina Garber (blog tour review coming July 28th), and Spells for the Dead by Faith Hunter (Nell Ingram #5, blog tour review coming July 30th).
Other than that the above books might be what I pick up…but it might also be wholly mood dependent. I’m not sure.
How was your June? Let me know some of your favorite reads of the month in the comments, and I’ll be back soon with more bookish content.
June Wrap-Up and July TBR/Weekly Wrap-Up (71) Hey all, Dani here. Wow, well I guess here we are at another wrap-up post where I end up combining my weekly wrap-up and my monthly wrap-up.

Good day, I really enjoyed the end of Fairy Tail!
I didn’t want to post anything before a decent translation was out, and I believe I was right in doing so. There’s only so much a panel can convey with no text to accompany it. By reading the translated version I got a better insight into what was happening, though I pretty much already got the gist from the spoilers.
Do keep in mind that the official release is next week, so my opinion is based on a fan translation. But no matter, I don’t think much will change when I read the official translation. Just some minor details, but it won’t change my mind drastically in any way.
Anyway, like a lot of fans, I’ve been emotional all day, listening to the Fairy Tail OST, rewatching the OPs and EDs and recalling some of my favorite scenes. And now I’ve calmed down a bit (but just a bit, I’m pretty much yelling everything I’m typing right now but I want to keep this post clean so I’m not using caps), and am finally able to properly talk about the final chapter, and my final thoughts.
I don’t normally do reviews or anything, but I felt like I should make an exception this one time, since Fairy Tail has been a big part of my life since 2012, if I remember correctly. This post will be me trying to sort out my thoughts and let out all my feels, so it will be pretty personal, but I’ll try to look at things from different angles. Still, this is just my opinion, so I might get a bit biased talking about a few things, but of course, you are free to agree or disagree. So I’ll just be letting out all my thoughts on the conclusion of a series that has been dear to me for years.
Keep in mind though, if you’re willing to read this trough to the end: it is LONG AF! So just that down.
More babbling under the cut.
THAT CANONIZATION STUFF
This is a hot topic right now, so I’ll start with a few words about the whole shipping situation. A lot of people stuck with the series until the end for the ships, so I know they were disappointed because there was no timeskip or next gen or kisses or weddings. I can understand that. All shippers want that, and it’s what shippers got with Naruto and Bleach, so it’s pretty much what we were given to expect from the final chapter of Fairy Tail as well.
But reading the chapter, I couldn’t help but feel satisfied with the way it turned out. Mostly.
See, the good thing about this ending is that NO SHIPS WERE SUNK. Literally, not a single one. (Ok so maybe Miraxus was kinda sunk, based on Yonkou’s translation, but that’s only Lucy’s impression ;) it’s all cool guys.) If anything, most have been canonized or heavily implied, even without kisses or actual confessions. As a shipper, you may be disappointed about your ship “not sailing” but, really, it all depends on your interpretation. Shipping is not about proving to your fandom that you were “right”, it’s about that nice feeling your ship gives you, regardless of how canon it is.
Sure, canon is freaking great. I get absolutely ecstatic when my ship becomes canon. But I don’t need canonization to believe in my ship in my heart. I’ve been on both the losing and the winning side of shipping, so I’d say this type of ending is a good compromise. Because you know, people will get stressed over ships one way or another, and there are also a lot of people who do not actually care about the ships.
This way, it wasn’t all In Your Face, but it was heavily implied. Heavily implied means that you can choose to interpret it in another way. A casual reader will see the “surface”, the obvious, but as a shipper, you can have your own, different interpretation. Mashima gave us that freedom. That’s great in my book. It feels refreshing after Naruto and Bleach.
Personally, I wouldn’t have minded a next gen type of chapter, because it would actually fit the theme of Fairy Tail. In my opinion, it would have done Fairy Tail more good than it did Naruto (I’m not anti-Naruto ending, I’m just saying I would have appreciated that scenario even more in Fairy Tail).
But, that kind of ending wasn’t necessary for me. And I found myself actually not wanting it, after Naruto and Bleach. I wanted something different, not a copy-paste ending of those two. Again, I wouldn’t have complained either way, but I still prefer it the way Mashima did it.
Now, I’m one of the people who ship the main four: Nalu, Gruvia, Jerza and Gajevy. And guess what? I’m satisfied with how they were treated in the final chapter.
Let’s see what we got.
GAJEVY: Ok so, just stating the obvious here. Gajevy has been canon since Gajeel’s confession in the Alvarez arc. Among other things, there was even a panel of them with their children, the twins. I’m pretty sure there was even a light novel about the twins. Mashima considered it canon even back then. So yeah, this ship has been canon for a while actually. Hell, we even got that one panel of them kissing in Juvia’s fantasy. That was no coincidence. A real kiss or a confession in the final chapter would’ve been welcome, but it wasn’t absolutely necessary to cement their romantic relationship. I’d even say Mashima’s way of developing them in the final chapter was better than a kiss.  Levy whispered something in Gajeel’s ear, and we can 100% trust Wendy’s hearing, the girl definitely heard something juicy. But from Lucy, we only know there was the word “baby”. So Levy probably said something about them having a baby/babies soon. I see this as Mashima’s subtle way of reminding us, not even confirming, reminding us of Gajevy’s relationship, a relationship that has gotten physical during the one year timeskip. Now Levy is supposedly pregnant, with the twins. I couldn’t believe it when they just casually disappeared after that and Lily wondered where they were. My guy, you know where they are and exactly what they’re doing lol.  In any case, I can understand the disappointment about them not kissing onscreen, but like I said, to me, this was even better. And we have no right to complain about there being no confession; we already got one from Gajeel, and Levy has had an obvious crush on him since pretty early on in the series. This ship is good. Let’s not be greedy.
Tumblr media
JERZA: Now, with Jerza I can totally understand the disappointment. The disappointing part was not the lack of canonization, but the lack of any interactions at all. I agree that Jerza deserved an actual interaction, not even necessarily outright canonization. In that respect, Jerza got the short end of the stick. I honestly expected Mashima to make an entirely indulgent chapter with actual Jerza moments with just the two of them. But, thinking about it, I think I understand where he’s coming from. Looking back, I even feel like there’s a kind of poetry to it. You’re laughing now, but hear me out. As far as I’m concerned, Jerza has been canon since their Almost Kiss and the famous “I have a fiancée” fiasco. That was years ago. It’s canon in terms of mutual affection, not an official relationship, but hey, they’re getting there, it’s the feeling that matters. Sometimes life is complicated and you can’t just be with the person you love just like that, especially if said person is a criminal. Jellal and Erza’s relationship has been complicated from the beginning, but I think we can all agree they deserve to be happy after everything. Now, with Jellal being absolved of all his crimes, there’s finally hope for them. The way Jellal says “Live” with that pensive expression, you can tell he’s thinking about Erza, a life with Erza, it’s all over his face. And the scene cuts to Erza. Fitting. I interpreted the part where Lucy talks about Erza brushing her hair every day as Erza finally being able to meet with Jellal regularly, so that’s why she’s trying to look her best for him. I find that somewhat bittersweet, like their entire relationship.  And while I am a bit let down we didn’t get actual interactions, after not getting much focus in the second half of the series, the romantic in me sees a sort of poetry in this. In Jerza always being driven apart, right till the very end. (Yeah, I’m bullshitting this, but honest to God, this really is how I feel about it.)  Just a side note, because I don’t want to make this about other ships from other fandoms, but, without naming anyone, I’ll just say I ship that one ship in Naruto that is always driven apart by the hands of destiny. I’m a sucker for that.  So, while I craved Jerza interactions, I can’t deny that my masochistic side was giddy with this outcome. I feel kinda bad for feeling this way though. Again, that’s just me. But I totally understand all the fuss about it. There was the whole buildup for a wedding with Erza’s wedding dress too...
Tumblr media
GRUVIA: This chapter actually turned out really cute for Gruvia and only further cemented their relationship. Ok, so we didn’t get a kiss or a sweet Gray, but we got a jealous Gray? Also the Gray who smiles lovingly when Juvia puts her arms around him in that cover (yay).  In my heart, Gruvia has been canon since their double suicide in the Alvarez arc, mostly because of what Gray said about wanting to protect Juvia, and because of all the implications that lovers’ suicide puts around their characters. Many fans thought Gray’s behavior would somehow change drastically after that. I never thought it would, but I knew they’d eventually be together, and Gray would still be tsundere about it. And I’m fine with that. That’s IC in my book.  But there is a crucial difference this time. This time, Gray isn’t pushing Juvia away, or running away from her, or getting embarrassed by her advances. This Gray drags Juvia away from the party when she gets too drunk and attracts Gildart’s attention with the stripping habit she picked up from Gray himself (oh, the irony). The entire conversation that follows is really heartwarming, and it shows us that there really has been a shift in their relationship. What with Gray saying that about her body being his (as a lover, nothing possessive). It just conveys genuine care for Juvia and her well-being, I am thankful for that. So, all in all, the Gruvia interactions in the chapter were still pretty much in the typical Gruvia fashion, but there were some important changes on Gray’s part. You could clearly see he was more comfortable around her now, and more open about her “belonging” to him (for the lack of a better term). And honestly, that was only natural. After all, it has been a year since the Alvarez war, and Gray promised Juvia an answer right after the war. This chapter heavily implies that Juvia eventually got a positive answer from Gray. Whether they have actually been in a relationship all this time is somewhat unclear, but if they haven’t, they sure are about to be after what Gray said. And this may be just me, but honestly, from the way he talks about it so openly and gets all flustered about her body being “his” too, my bets are on the already existing relationship. I pretty much see this as a post-Gray’s-answer situation. Of course, a flash forward to ten years later could have given Mashima an opportunity to slightly change Gray’s character towards Juvia, make him more affectionate and less tsundere, but just a year wasn’t enough, in my opinion. Since he decided to stick with the one year timeskip, I truly believe this was the way to go. Their interactions truly warmed my heart. All I ever wanted was a jealous Gray (and slightly possessive in a healthy way). And I got it. I’m happy. This ship is good too, as far as I’m concerned.
Tumblr media
NALU: Now, I just want to say Nalu is my favorite OTP in the series. Having said that, I absolutely loved their moments in this chapter. I wasn’t disappointed in the least, and didn’t see their final interaction as a friendzoning thing, not at all. Now, I never expected a kiss. I wouldn’t have complained if I had gotten one, but it would have been a bonus. To be honest, I do feel like a kiss or straight-up canonization in the form of a traditional confession would not only feel OOC, but would also be somewhat awkwardly placed at this point in time. Ten years into the future, sure, something’s bound to come out of it, but right now, Natsu and Lucy don’t need to put labels on their relationship. With all the other ships, I feel like that final romantic touch was necessary (and the final romantic touches we got indeed, if only indirectly in some cases!), because they were strictly romantic from the start, but Nalu is different. What I always loved about them was first and foremost their deep friendship, their deep connection that goes beyond any type of relationship that can be defined with words. That’s why I believe it’s fine if you don’t want to see it as romantic. Maybe you believe it would only ruin them. I personally don’t think so, but I understand why some people would. More than anything, they are the best of friends, dare I say, soulmates, as cheesy as it may sound, and only after that can they be a couple. And even as a couple, they wouldn’t be an ordinary one. In my opinion, Lucy and Natsu are so close that, honestly, they already give off that vibe of an old married couple. They have been giving off that vibe for a while, at least to me. Maybe it started sometime during the Tenrou island arc. But what cemented their bond, for me, was the GMG arc, the second half of it. So I didn’t feel like I needed an outright confirmation of a romance to wholeheartedly believe in this ship. What happened was pretty much how I had hoped things would go down between them in their final scenes together. I’m very pleased with how Mashima handled their moments in the chapter.  Not only did Gajeel tease Natsu about liking Anna-sensei because she smells like Lucy (meaning he does see something there), but there was also the beautiful, heartwarming embrace. Natsu’s reaction to Lucy thanking him for being there is to completely disregard it, because he doesn’t want or need her to thank him, he just wants her to be with him, that’s all the “thanks” he wants from her. And he reassures her that from now on, they will be together forever. Now, I might be jumping to conclusions here, but in my book, the promise of forever spoken in this manner isn’t viewed as something very platonic in the Japanese culture, is it? (Reminds me of another ship from another shounen manga where the guy said something similar, you know the one.) Either way, yeah, it is kind of an open ending for them in terms of an actual relationship, but I wouldn’t have it any other way. In my heart, I know that somewhere down the road, it will lead to something even more beautiful. I got Natsu and Lucy going on an adventure again. I got all I wanted.
Tumblr media
Having said that, I’m pretty sure Mashima will be writing some extra chapters in the upcoming months. Not necessarily next gen stuff, but just something to keep us hyped until the anime comes back. So we might still see some more shippy scenes, but those are just my own speculations.
Anyhow. Some minor ships here and there too. My heart is full of joy knowing that Erik and Kinana are actually lovers now. I never thought it would happen, but here we are. Elfever is freaking canon too, my boys. Also, Laxus got his own harem, the man scored! He can have ‘em all. Probably missing some ships here, but Max x Broom is still canon af!
Now...
ZERVIS: Or... is it? Technically, yeah. I know this is sort of a Trigger ship for the fandom, you either love it with all your being or you hate it and want to burn your memories of it, there’s no in between. You all know I love Zervis, but I’ll try to be as objective as I can on this one. So they seem to be reincarnated. They now call themselves Arius and Mio respectively. Also, Zeref/Arius mentions how “it’s really hot this August” I see what you did there Mashima. But they will never know. Now, I’ll be frank. While I do love Zervis, their scene wasn’t necessary. You can really see how Mashima favors this ship, the way he favored Jerza in the first half of the story. I loved the closure Zervis got during the war, finally ending their lonely existences, together. And their life force made it possible for Makarov to come back. Thinking back on it, it might have been The One True Magic (read: love) between Zeref and Mavis that brought Makarov back. That was probably the deal with that. Makarov is still traumatized. But anyway. Now, it seems like Zeref and Mavis have been reincarnated. I have no idea how though, or why they are already in their teens when they’re supposed to be babies if it’s only been a year since their death (that’s how reincarnation works, right?). But, I figured it isn’t supposed to make much sense. It’s just there to warm our hearts and give us a 100% happy ending, even though it would have already been 100% happy even without it. It might have even ruined the chapter for some. Not for me though... But yeah, this is just Mashima drawing some self-indulgent panels, can’t say I blame him though. About the reincarnation, in a way, it adds an ironic twist to the curse of Ankhseram. After breaking it the first time, maybe their fate is to get reincarnated over and over again, for all eternity, each time forgetting their past lives, each time falling in love with each other. All that instead of being immortals. It’s kind of poetic, in a way. I would have been fine with them finding eternal peace together though. With the reincarnation, it feels less... epic? But the shipping whore in me is still glad I got to see them happy and carefree for once, as a publisher and an aspiring author, who are sure to both have connections to Lucy in the future due to their careers. It’s like an “In another life” fic. It wasn’t necessary, but I won’t complain.
Tumblr media
SO, that’s pretty much how I feel about the ships. Man, that was long. But wait, I’m still not done! I want to talk about a few more things before I go back to crying alone.
LUCY
Lucy deserves a whole paragraph, because she’s my favorite character and I’m just so proud of what she has accomplished over the course of this series. There are few things I would change about her development. I would give her more spotlight at times, but other than that, I absolutely love everything about her and her character development. Even though Natsu is technically the main character, it really did feel at times like it was actually Lucy. She is the narrator. We see the whole story and the characters from her perspective. And she has gone through the most character development in Team Natsu. Feel free to disagree on that one, it’s just my opinion. In my eyes, Lucy is the best character (as much as I love a few of my other babies) and I am so glad to see where she has gotten in this chapter. Props to Lucy for managing to finish that novel with such loud friends around her and Natsu and Happy constantly barging in. That girl, always doing the impossible. Gotta love her.  In the first page, we see that her novel is called “The adventure of Iris”. So, in Greek mythology, Iris is supposed to be a messenger of the gods and the personification of the rainbow, linking heaven and earth. Sound familiar? Lucy is a Celestial Spirit Mage who basically acts as a portal between the heavens and earthland. And it is also confirmed by a nameless guest that the heroine, Iris, is indeed based on Lucy and her own adventures. So it’s basically saying that she wrote a story inspired by Fairy Tail and her adventures with them. Just like I always hoped she would! Plus, she got an award for it and the guests are calling her Lucy-sensei. That right there is so important to me like! They will keep calling her Lucy-sensei from now on, because she is now a recognized author. Damn proud. As expected of the Celestial Princess. Absolutely proud of everything she has done throughout the series. And she will keep growing, as a mage, as a writer, and as a person.
Tumblr media
Also, I loved how the entire chapter was yet again narrated by Lucy herself. A lot of it focused on romance too. I didn’t mention this in the Nalu section, but I believe all the focus on romance was leading toward the final Nalu moment, with the purpose of setting up that “romantic” mood, so that we’d get the hint even though it wasn’t explicit in the end. Lucy is always getting flustered around couples and is sometimes even jealous of their relationships, but she doesn’t realize that she and Natsu have that too, and more, just without the whole making out thing. And by the end of the chapter, I believe Natsu actually makes her realize that! Just my interpretation though.
THE COVERS
I just got really emotional about the covers too. First, the Jump cover with all the major characters being all #squad goals. The Gruvia bit makes me especially happy, and also Nalu and Wendy being the adorable little family they are. I just wish Levy would get more space lol, poor girl, she smol, Gajeel lift her up, won’t you?
Tumblr media
And then the color spread with all the guild members together. I always love those, and there is something particularly nostalgic about this one. The style somehow reminded me of Mashima’s style at the beginning of the series. The coloring style too. I don’t know if that’s what he was going for, but I just had that feeling. Everyone looks so BOMB! But again, why the letters over Levy’s face? The final artbook better fix that.
Tumblr media
OTHER THINGS I GUESS
Team Natsu dynamics. Just like old times! Natsu and Gray squabbling and Erza freaking obliterating them. Lucy being embarrassed because her friends have no sense of shame or restraint. Gray stripping, but now Juvia strips too. Romeo understanding nothing about adulthood. So many nostalgic moments, there are so many characters featured in this chapter, I can’t even remember them all.
More importantly, I’m glad Anna stayed in their timeline (not sure if there was even a way for her to get back to hers), and love how she’s a teacher, it’s only fitting. Wish we could have seen more of her interactions with Lucy or her time with Natsu and the other Dragon Slayers. Now, there’s an idea for a short spin-off series! Just sayin’.
Also, Chelia is slowly starting to use magic again! Very happy about that. You can come at me with all your “but it’s unrealistic” flame, I still love that cheese. Absolutely love how Wendy and Chelia are still performing for Lamia Scale! Also, some Chendy for my soul.
Minerva freaking obliterated the rest of her guildmates. Lesson number one about women, never underestimate our voraciousness, especially if we’re used to being on ridiculous diets.
I don’t really understand what happened with Ichiya, but he's exclaiming “MEN” and is apparently the boss of something now so that’s good. It’s the least he deserves after sacrificing his life along with Anna so that Jellal didn’t have to sacrifice his. Even though he would have been brought back as well lol.
And the Mermaid Heel girls are Weekly Sorcerer’s models, somehow I always knew.
Drunk Cana and her sweet, protective dad for my soul.
Makarov is still the guild master, I presume? It’s either him or Laxus now. Even though he can’t move around much nowadays, I kinda feel like the members of the guild would still want him as their master, until the last of his days, or until he passes the baton. That realization is somehow really heartwarming.
Princess Hisui is now Queen Hisui, I love it! She is a good queen, a gentle soul, and she pardoned Jellal and the Oracion Seis. They are finally free to do as they please, after so much suffering, some of them losing their way and finding it again. Thank you Hisui!
Also, just wanna say I appreciate that bit where Hisui pardons Jellal and there’s the transition from his sort-of-smiling face to a sort-of-smiling Erza with her bangs covering her eyes. Right then, Erza whispers “It’s complicated”. And since we, the audience, did not only just see a character whom Erza has a kind of a “complicated” relationship with, but we’re also seeing the whole situation through Lucy’s eyes (with Lucy being concerned about Erza and Jellal’s progress lol), we are bound to connect this to Erza’s relationship with Jellal at first, before she explains she’s actually talking about the book. Mashima being subtle lol.
Tumblr media
The timeskip. There was indeed a timeskip, but only like a year. I actually liked that. Long timeskips aren’t necessary for the main story, and would only disrupt its flow at this point. The only major timeskip we ever had was the seven year timeskip after the Tenrou island arc, but our characters didn’t really feel the timeskip on their skins. They just found themselves in a new world. So it pretty much felt like there was no timeskip at all. Maybe a longer timeskip could work for a spin-off series or a special next gen chapter, if we ever get one.
Speaking of, I know a lot of fans wanted a fast-forward to ten years into the future with next gen, but I’m just here, sitting with the 5% of us who didn’t actually want that lol.
I actually used to be one of those fans who wanted to see all my ships married with children ten years into the future, but the closer we got to the final chapter, the more I realized that what I really wanted was for the familiar and loved characters to get some kind of closure. I started wishing for a chapter that would feel like old times. I wanted things to be simple and silly like they used to be at the beginning. I didn’t really want to see all the characters as adults with families and stable lives.
For me, Fairy Tail is an endless adventure. A longer timeskip with everyone going their separate ways to build their own families, even if they’re still part of the guild, would feel like the adventure was interrupted. Like it was over. I still feel like there’s so much more they can do. So many more adventures they could go on, together.
Which brings me to Natsu’s “Grand announcement”.
So I know most of us jumped to the conclusion that it would be something about Lucy, whether as a confession, or a request to go on an adventure together, with romance implied. That mostly came from that one dialogueless chapter featuring Natsu and Gildarts, where Natsu blushed talking about something. To me, the whole “big announcement is a confession” thing was a possibility, but I wasn’t counting on it. Glad about that one. Because it turned out to be something better and so much more symbolic.
They’re going on a 100 Year Quest together! It just holds so much meaning for the end of the story, and for Natsu as a character. Because Gildarts, the man who is the closest thing to a father figure in Natsu’s life after Igneel, once went on a 100 Year Quest. And only top tier mages are allowed to go on such missions. Which speaks volumes, if you consider how the whole Team Natsu was allowed to go, proving, yet again, that they are all hella strong. (My heart is happy for Lucy.) Also worth noting, the 100 Year Quest is a sort of symbol. 100 years is a damn long time, sounds like an eternity. Just like this adventure! Never-ending!
(Also, while they’re at it, might as well search for that Aquarius key, eh eh? It was promised, and so it shall be!)
What I loved about the ending was that it didn’t really feel like much of an ending, somehow? It felt like... the middle. It was definitely a closure, but not the end of their story. It’s still somewhere in the middle, somewhere between the adventures of their lives. It’s great, because if Mashima wishes to ever make a spin-off series or special chapters or any additional material, he has so much to work with, so much to expand on, so much space for work.
In my opinion, this was overall a great ending. Typical Fairy Tail Spirit.
Tumblr media
LOVE LETTER TO FAIRY TAIL!
The conclusion wasn’t entirely perfect, for me, but it made me feel all sorts of emotions and I just can’t believe the main story is finally over!
Fairy Tail has been a big part of my life since 2012. I fell in love with the premise of the story and its early arcs, then I fell in love with the characters, and even while this final arc wasn’t much, I stayed for the characters! And I am happy with where they have gotten along the way.
I am so thankful for the memories and everything that this story has made me feel throughout these years! It wasn’t the best story out there, but it meant something to me, it means something to me! And I will forever treasure it!
Whatever new material gets thrown at us, I will never forget the original journey. I will stay here for the anime too, and everything that might follow.
I’m here forever, my dudes.
So that’s all I have to say, for now, I think. I am still so full of feels, but this is what I could put together in my current emotional state.
THANK YOU MASHIMA HIRO-SENSEI! THANK YOU FAIRY TAIL! I WILL NEVER FORGET THE JOURNEY!!!
Tumblr media
P.S. Fairies do exist. It’s just.... they don’t have tails. Dangit.

Guys
As upset as I am at the ending chapter, we have to remember something. Fairy Tail's manga is done. Sure, this last arc had it's moments, it's ship moments and it's moments where I wanted to throw my phone across the room. I've been in this fandom for about 6 years now. I discovered Fairy Tail when I was watching a couple of videos about good animes to watch. I was 12 years old and the idea of wizards and stuff amazed the hell out of me. I'm 18 years old now and I don't know what I'm going to do. I honestly thought that Mashima would have given us even a little more solidarity. I loved the fact that the last time we see Team Natsu is just Natsu, Gray, Lucy, Wendy, Erza, Happy and Charle. No add-ons like Juvia or Gajeel or even Brandish. It was the 7 of them, together one last time. And as much as I love the Naruto series, I didn't enjoy the whole next gen thing. I would have loved to see my ships married and a few expecting (wouldn't we all) but still, I didn't want the story to end focusing on their kids. I wanted to end like it started -- and that's what we got. So, don't fret my friends. Our ships willstay strong. Mashima has more planned for Fairy Tail. I think though, as a whole, chapter 545 was a good ending for Fairy Tail. Now, a spin off series that is exclusively about ships, I'm all for. But lets not forget what Fairy Tail was about -- friendship. And that's how it ended, with friends ready to start their next adventure. Now, don't get me wrong. I am a Gruvia shipper. I have been since Juvia was first introduced. But I love the concept of it being an open ending. Every fan can imagine what happens. Maybe Gray and Juvia split up and Juvana or something becomes canon. But keep in mind, the characters are, at most at the age of 20. Some people do find their true love at 20 but not many. In a sense, the Fairy Tail ending is realistic. Not every relationship ends how we want it to. And if Mashima does do a spin off about their kids, I'll read it. Even if it's just a little 'epilogue' like chapter. Fairy Tail has ended and we should be happy that we got to spend our time with this crazy guild.

Probably just me but I would find the constant "Why isn't nalu canon?!" "Where is Jerza?!" and "You're not drawing enough of my ship!" posts on Hiro Mashima's Twitter a little annoying if I were him. He'll be talking about how excited he is about something not FT related and he'll get stuff like "Why can't we have a next gen arc?!" or "You did Jerza wrong!!!" After a month of that it would be frustrating... But that's just me I guess. I love Fairy Tail just as much as everyone else, but I don't know...I'm just weird....

Do you think that's it for Jerza? Like that we'll never hear of them again? No extra, sequel, spin-off, omake, a movie like 'the last', I just can't imagine that this is the ending Mashima wanted to show us after talking how "happily it will end". Happily my ass, Jerza is exactly where they've been the whole time and Erza is still waiting for him. It's just, it's beautiful but it's damn cruel and too cruel. They deserved better than this. At least one damn panel together. Seeing them eat cake.
I honestly would have been happy with some sappy shit like them writing letters to each other. Just standing next to each other. Anything. BUT ANYWAY tbh I don’t think it’s it. I just can’t buy that Mashima would end his series feeling so…incomplete and weird. He has said he’s not finished w/ ft and honestly I think he’s planning spin offs. I’d even bet on a sequel series. It’s all for the money $$$$$ why do you think Boruto exists? It’s for the money. So while I don’t think we’ll get a next gen, I do think he’s planning more and maybe we’ll get our well deserved endgame there. Maybe we won’t. Who knows. I think it’s best to hope for something more promising, but overtime if we don’t get it, we can always rely on fan content and at the end of the day jerza still has the best written and most well developed romantic relationship in the entire series 🐸☕️

The Evolution of Erza Scarlet
This is in response to @thegreatrhapsode‘s post on what he would do for Erza Scarlet’s character in a re-write. Being an avid Scarlet fan myself, I couldn’t help but thrown in some of my two cents. My disclaimer: I’m not an impartial reviewer - I’m approaching this like I would a fanfic - what could make an interesting story. So yeah, this will be what interests ME. So, sorry-not sorry to anyone else who thinking what I have down here is trash. XP
Armors and Powers:
I actually love the idea of her having to go without those armors for a while for repairs or even reforged into a more powerful version. While they are broken, she'll find that she needs to increase her base stats more (like Zoro does) so she can train her physical stats even more, or her actual sword fighting technique. So the next couple of fights, she focuses on using just the weapons themselves instead of relying too much on her armor stash. A ‘retraining’ of herself of sorts. Instead of breaking up Natsu and Gray’s fights all the time, she joins in to keep her actual fisticuffs skills up to par. For her reaction and speed training, having Alzack and Bisca use their requip to shoot magic bullets at her might be intense enough for her to try.
Or hell, even another thought - learning how to capture her opponents blade by placing her own version of 'enchantment' on them. Whichever blades she can successfully enchant, she can wield with her telekinesis-like ability that she displayed when she first manifested her power and also when she brought down the Hall of Thunder. It would be a literal ‘Blade Steal’. This is where I thought ‘Queen of Blades’ could also become a later moniker of hers. It’s possible and if fits with her powers and skills. She enchants whatever item she desire with her magic and that is how she can bring it in and out of her ‘storage’ a la ‘ReQuip’.
Another idea might be one for her getting materials for the reforging of her old armor. The Flame Empress is easy - have Natsu help enchant it with his Fire Dragon Magic during the actual reforging of that set. The Black Wing and the Heaven’s Wheel can also get improvements but not as much as some others. Purgatory Armor should just be left out...that was freaking useless. To replace that one, she can go hunting for new armors and THIS is where she finds the Nakagami armor set or even a few other new ones. If her power is tied to her armor, then she should have been constantly upgrading her armor by reforging different pieces, inlaying lacryima into them - anything. Heaven’s Wheel is her favorite go-to armor? Have that thing double the amount of blades with that set and even make the swords more durable and able to shoot her magic energy through the tips or something - like her Photon Laser armor set. Honestly, Erza is properly OP just with a bit more application of the powers available to her from the start.
I think it would be amusing if she put on one of her old magic armor sets and it broke because she had too much power for it to properly channel. It would be nice if she didn’t have to rely on armor ALL the time.
Story and Goals:
Having a set goal is good - having an obscure goal like ‘to be strong enough to protect my family’ is ... okay. That sort of goal only works for the MC of the story but yeah... I wouldn’t have minded the ‘Wizard Saint’ goal if Natsu didn’t defeat Jellal in ToH like he did. The fight needs a bit more depth to it despite what it already represented. To me, having the Natsu vs Jellal fight represent her Past vs her Present+Future is pretty good symbolism in of itself. Power-wise... I think if she had helped out and it took both Natsu and Erza to beat him, it would lend a bit more weight to the ‘level of a Wizard Saint’ thing. Would also help solidify the fact that Jose rightly took her apart during the Phantom Lord Arc because he was that strong to be a ranked member of the Saints. Little things like that make the story easier for me to believe - maybe that’s just a ‘me’ thing. Maybe Erza didn’t want to become a Saint because she didn’t want to put herself on the same level as Makarov yet - that could also be a thing. She feels indebted to him and she doesn’t want to do anything to usurp his role to her in her mind. It may take Makarov himself to kick her in the ass to get her to try out for it. Pride of a father watching his beautiful daughter taking her rightful place in the world - nice moment right there. Gray may support her since he knows enough that Erza’s path may take her away from Fairy Tail. Natsu, however, doesn’t want her to leave and may even throw a tantrum or quietly ask if she’s just leaving them because she doesn’t like it here anymore which hurts Erza because she thinks the world of Natsu and even as bone-headed as he is, he’s important to her. They decide to have a battle - if Natsu wins, Erza stays, if Erza wins, she leaves and Natsu won’t say anything else. They fight and Natsu brings his ‘S-ranked’ game to this and Erza has to fight harder than ever before, not just because Natsu became stronger (flame of emotion, remember), but because she’s also undecided in her own heart. In the end, she decides to postpone her applying to the Wizard Saint position because she wants to go on more adventures and make more memories with her family. So Titania stays with Fairy Tail even though she’s at Wizard Saint lvl.
She may decide to help train Natsu and Gray to become S-ranks so that they guild will remain strong in her absence (another goal for her and also gives Natsu a path for increasing his battle power).
Not getting into Irene on that one... maybe if someone asks me, I’ll delve into it.
Relationships:
Okay, @thegreatrhapsode, you can tune me out here. XD Her relationships with her guildemates, her friends, Natsu and Gray and Wendy, and of course, Jellal. It should be very well known and well documented that I strongly dislike Jellal in this story - which is a shame because I will sing Seig Hart’s praises til the end of time. I like Seig even more than Shuda and Shuda was BAMF in Rave. Showing her becoming less strict is a good thing. I wouldn’t mind if she became the guild master and said many of the same things that Makarov said. That lil old man was essentially her father figure so it makes sense that she takes a lot of what he says to heart. So she becomes less stern and more accepting of those who don’t ‘live up’ to her old standards - instead, she may even do away with that line of thinking and encourage her fellow guildmates to live in a way that they can find out for themselves the reason for their magic, why they do what they do, and continue to live from day to day. She needs more time with Mira, Cana, and Wendy as well. Cana got shoved to the side and she really didn’t deserve that. Cana is one of the old guard, right along with Erza, Natsu, Gray, Mira, and Laxus - those are the core of the next gen of Fairy Tail. They should have a bond between them that is hard to pin down but probably the most sibling-like of any of the bonds in Fairy Tail. Sure, they may belong to different teams but for those 6 - I think they should be ‘That One Squad’ you don’t want to mess with. Like they should have been able to go up against the Oracion Seis... XD Okay maybe not, but hopefully you can grasp what I mean. As more and more people get added into the story (Lucy, Juvia, Gajeel, Thundergod Tribe, Wendy and Charles, etc), we should see that tight-knit circle growing in size but never losing it’s original strength of these people being the core of the Fairy Tail that the story is following. How they relate to Erza is that these are the ‘actual family’ that she relies on - everyone else is extended family. Hate to break it up into those terms but that’s how I see it. I’ll address Jellal before I get to Gray and then Natsu - personally, they all deserve their own sections - they are that important to Erza.
Jellal: Okay, real plot-talk here. I don’t like the fact that his redemption and his romance with Erza are essentially two-in-one. I don’t care how tortured of a soul he is or how good he was previous to the possession. Romance + Redemption is a disaster - especially if the romance partner ends up dying. If Erza died, there’s no where for Jellal to go but right back into darkness. Sure, he might do it in revenge of Erza’s killer if she died that way, but seriously, take Erza away and Jellal has no foothold to stand on - that is what makes him and the entire thing with Erza weak. I really don’t think Erza should have auto-switched to Jellal like she did - it was too sudden. Kinda makes you wonder why did she wait all those 8 years stewing for... *shrugs* Anyway, whether I like it or not, Jellal is very important to Erza - he gave her hope in what was her darkest time - I will never dispute this. And yet, he dashed that to pieces when he got possessed and went nuts, threatening her that if she ever got help to come back and free the others, that he’d kill them all. That should have had a much deeper psychological impact on her - much deeper than just a short arc for her to get over it and pursue a romance with him. *shakes fist at Mashima*. Damn it, I didn’t want this part to be a rant... Like I said in the above - Jellal is her past. Yes, he is both a bright spot and a dark smear on her past and her memories. And he should remain as that. She would want him to regain the light once more and that’s not a problem. But I think that he’d have a LOT to prove with her other than looking like a sad puppy and crying. As much faith as Erza showed Natsu during the Nirvana arch, why didn’t he ask her just who was Natsu to her - get her flustered a bit. XD I really would like a Jella/Natsu rivalry just because of the raw emotion that was shown in ToH. Sorry but actions speak louder than words and Jellal has 8 years to make up for. You’ll notice that I’m not referencing Ultear here - that’s because I don’t hold her responsible for that brainwashing in my head. I’m fully aware that it’s canon but Ultear has enough on her plate without throwing the huge mountain of crimes and ‘sins’ that Jelly amassed during that time. She should have been kept as a viable route for him to take as well. Either way, I think a fair bit of time needs to be spent on Jellal even being a continuing villain in FT or put him on the long, hard road of recovery. Either way, that’s something that he’ll have to make on his own and not rely on hiding behind Erza’s impenetrable aura of ‘Erzaness’ to defend him.
Gray: Gray is definitely the mature one between himself and Natsu. He is level-headed (for the most part) and can deal with complex things that Natsu either can’t deal with or just doesn’t want to. He and Erza can have long talks about different topics without it delving into fighting or annoyance. If she engaged in this with Gray more, it would do wonders for showing us how she sees him and vice versa. I really think that Erza should have taken both Gray and Natsu out with her on missions by themselves but Eisenwald was the first time she took both at once because she needed all their powers. But anyway, having Erza reveal that she trusts Gray with the hard plans because he can think his way through tough spots (like in Edolas with the key and the Dragon Cannon), would be a great set of moments for the both of them to learn just to what extent they see each other. Erza and Gray come off more like the older sister, middle brother type relationship but again, THEY ARE NOT BROTHER AND SISTER!
Natsu: I’ll... keep this brief... Or try to. First and foremost - THEY ARE NOT BROTHER AND SISTER SO ANYTHING ROMANTIC WITH THEM IS NOT  INCEST - PERIOD!!!! *huffs* .... There, glad we cleared that up. Now, even though I like Natza (perhaps a bit too much for some people) - them suddenly starting a relationship after ToH is a bit much...even for me. Like many have brought up - Erza sees Natsu and Gray as much her actual brothers as one could. It would take some time for the viewpoint to allow for her to see Natsu as something more. ToH provided enough to give that perception a brief rattle in my book but hey.... She thinks of him a lot - I mean A LOT. Likewise, he does things for her that make a good amount of people have to adjust their eyes to make sure of what they’re seeing. They can both strength each other and also hold the other back. They inspire each other - they believe in each other with a faith so strong, it defies all reason. Other writers and Tumblrs have brought up that Natsu probably reminded Erza of Jellal from their actual slave days and she wanted to make sure that he would be a man who would never succumb to darkness (and she succeeded in that). They both need more awareness of each other, but mostly for Natsu in order for any romance to kick over. If I did it, both Natsu and Erza wouldn’t even realize that they were in that sort of relationship. It would probably be towards the 2nd to last arc before Natsu realized that he lllllliiikes herrrrrr like that. Again, growth on his part as well but he needs to become more mature and also more aware of the more complicated aspects of life. And yes, I’m aware that Natsu has a LOT of growing up to do but I don’t want that to come at the expense of who he is and what he is to the story. Ugh... Keep it brief... So yes,  a slow burn for their relationship upgrade would be best. Asking for his opinion on more and more personal things, making him study/read more to bring up his IQ...things like that.
She doesn’t need an active romance to be Erza. She was fine before and she’d be fine after. Yes, I’m aware that she wants to become a bride and she wants to have a family and all of that - there’s no reason that she can’t have that. Like I said before, this is me thinking of it in a story and while I do prefer Natsu as her mate, I can ‘adjust’.
I really could keep on adding more to this but I gotta drop it right here. Agree - Disagree - that’s fine. It’s just my own perspective on how I see it. :p This is how I see Erza from the first 100 chapters evolving in a way that keeps with the original direction and still manages to make an impact with her.

Hey all, Dani here.
I’m still working at getting some of my previously planned October posts written up and posted in the time slot they were originally scheduled. My to-do list was just piling up on me, and the extra stress was just making everything feel worse. But those posts are coming very soon. I’m definitely in a writing mood right now. Blame NaNoWriMo.
Reading: I finished 26 books this month. Wow, okay, so that’s a lot. Cool. Umm…that takes me up to 191 books read for the year. I will definitely be passing the 200 book mark before the end of the year. My reading for October was definitely helped by a surfeit of manga volumes read, especially because of reading exclusively manga for Dewey’s 24 Hour Readathon. Still, there is absolutely nothing wrong with reading manga, and I had an enjoyable time.
Blogging: Okay, I slumped on this goal. I did not have a post up every day, and even when I catch up on my backlog of posts, I think I will still have two or three days that won’t have a post. But you know what, that’s okay. I honestly can’t believe that I went that long posting every day without really missing any. Of course I can definitely say that missing out on a week’s worth of posts did really hurt my traffic stats. October was only about 2/3 of the views of the rest of the months of 2019. But it’s okay, because my overall views for this October were still higher than last October, so it’s still upward momentum.
Writing: Another month of Weekend Writer is in the books, and November marks National Novel Writing Month, so I fully expect this goal to have some activity over the next month. You know, aside from all the writing I do for the blog. Oh, and now the writing I’m doing for my work’s daily newsletter. I’m kind of sad that my training will end at the end of November.
Conventions: The Ohio Renaissance Festival isn’t exactly a convention, but we did go to that one last time for this year, and we had a food and drink day. I have the whole thing documented on my Instagram, so you can check out all the lovely food and drink photos there. Convention season for Damian and I is pretty much over for 2019, but we are starting to browse at potential options for 2020. Of course, we are absolutely returning to Cincinnati Comic Expo in Sept 2020. We also plan to do at least one day of Gen Con (and hopefully the Critical Role Live Show there as well) in August 2020. Other than that we are looking at a couple other possibilities. Of course the big event for 2020 isn’t a convention, but it is our honeymoon to the Wizarding World of Harry Potter in October 2020, so stay tuned for more details on all of those events.
Next up is wrap up time. As always, if I have a review posted, then I will include the link back to that post in case you missed it and/or would like to check it out.

The next big section for this post is the book haul and OwlCrate unboxing portion. And yes, this is another big haul month. But because of saving up for our honeymoon and for saving up for other future plans, I have come to the decision that I need to go on a book buying restriction, and I have set a few guidelines and rules for my new restriction. The big part is that I’m allowing myself to buy 5 books each month. Note that this does not include the books that I get in my monthly OwlCrate. This also does not include the books I’m allowed to buy if I sell some of my old books first. So if I take a haul to Half Price Books and sell them, then I am allowed to use that money for books. This restriction also does not count what I can buy with the use of gift cards given to me for holidays and such. The other big caveat is that if I sign up to work overtime hours at work, I can use the overtime earnings for whatever fun activities I decide on, even if that’s books. It just means I have to put in extra effort to earn those books.
Okay, it’s haul time.
The OwlCrate this month was great, because there were TWO exclusive hardcover books included, which made me very excited. I’m also looking forward to next month’s book, because it will have sprayed edges. Not, the dragon statue in this photo is one of my bookshelf decorations, and not part of the box’s contents.

Finally, this is where I would normally go into details about my TBR plans for the upcoming month. But November is going to be an exception. I want my main focus to be writing. I’m really ahead on my reading goal for the year, so I don’t have to sit down and try to read 20 books in a month or anything. So I want to focus on NaNoWriMo. I may still pick up some manga volumes, some Middle Grade books, or some contemporary romance, but those will be decided based on my mood at that time. I usually take a book with me to work so I can read it on my breaks, so I’ll still be doing some reading.
Did you have a good reading month in October? Any fun plans for November? Let me know in the comments and I’ll be back soon with more bookish content.
October Wrap-Up and November Plans Hey all, Dani here. I'm still working at getting some of my previously planned October posts written up and posted in the time slot they were originally scheduled.
