I’ve been thinking abt one of my older oni colonies and decided to doodle my first three dupes in that save

#keese draws #oxygen not included #but yeah these guys were my main scientist digger and rancher respectively #this was one of my actual spaced out style saves so ofc I chose the cold asteroid still #it was painful opening this save again to look at their traits as it was basically my first longer attempt #let’s just say I had no idea what I was doing and ran out of power literally everywhere #might do a rescue attempt on this save tbh sounds like a fun challenge #but yeah I actually have characterizations for most of the dupes in this save in my head they’re like semi ocs to me #they’re the ones I like to imagine fumbling about post olivia entering sleep mode #cause there’d be such a harsh contrast in how they’d all react and move forwards #burt in particular would take it rly hard mostly because he’s the only scientist #so everyone ends up looking to him for answers and help and he just doesn’t know how to provide any of it #he had already spent so long feeling overworked and under appreciated so this wouldn’t help at all #quinn on the other hand is generally more optimistic as they have gone through a lot of rough shit and made it out on the other side #so they see this as an obstacle they’ll all overcome and grow stronger from #they’re also just very used to being suddenly forced to say goodbye to people for potentially forever #harold was almost relieved by the whole event because it lead to a lot less activity in the neural chip network #which is in fact a big source of panic for most of the dupes but harold pretty much exclusively goes to like 3 rooms so he’s not as effected #he also just doesn’t like the noise of the hundreds of commands that he can’t even follow #he just manages the plants and the pips and sometimes helps with the cooking #he honestly really likes the freedom of figuring out what to do without instruction #as the pip farm he manages is very. well let’s just say pips tend to starve in there a lot #yknow thankfully I did give these guys a bunch of phones so at least they’d be able to still know what’s up with eachother still #still an uncomfortable feeling loosing that connection that you’ve been relying on for years

How would you want to see Miguel’s arc/story wrapped up in btsv, factoring in things like the movie is still about miles (Miguel won’t get too much screen time) and also Sony probably wouldn’t feel comfortable explicitly depicting things from Miguel’s backstory like George’s abuse or drug addiction in an animated movie

tldr: i wanna see him align w miles and i think he will, i want a greater understanding of where he's coming in his conceptualisation of a "real spiderman", and I feel like THAT is likely informed by however spiderverse conceptualises his backstory, considering comics wise he and miles actually share a number of similarities on the front of being like. gen 2 spidermen post peter parker.

long answer:

hmmm. he's guided by genuinely good intensions regarding the multiverse so I personally want and think he will eventually pivot to align with miles against the spot. but to do that you need to provide him with immediate incentive that will trump his sunk cost fallacy doublebind (because the sunk cost fallacy thinking is what allows him to suppress doubt about things that don't align with his understanding of how canon operates). And I think, considering he's sitting in the exact same world Spot is going to presently wreack havoc in, I believe the immediate human cost that danger will invoke is what will probably provide that.

I also think it's critical to unpack Miguel's side of where he's even coming from in his angle in the "true spiderman" conflict, even though Miles' arc regarding that has been solidifed w his speech to Rio at the end of atsv, because of it's importance to the meta narrative asking us to question irl what elements have been used to "legitimise" a spiderman story.

If we don't know where Miguel the character is coming from when he conceptualises his side of the argument, he feels more like a mouth piece for that part of the meta narrative than a character purporting and reasoning through a particular world view. So I think this area of his character warrents some more exploration.

Regarding the backstory, I think considering atsv invites a lot of speculation as to his past and why he differs so much from traditional spidermen (the serum, the fangs and claws, the red eyes, how badly he reacts to the comment he isnt a real spiderman), I think we will get, however briefly, SOMETHING of his past in order to contextualise how Miguel views himself when he has his rant at Miles on the train.

I doubt they'll touch on the rapture addiction since in the overall scheme of Miguel's story it's not. super important beyond providing the catalyst for his transformation.

If we're going pure Tunes wish list, I would personally want SOME allusion to the fact he's a survivor of child abuse, even if they're obv not going to go graphic. I think it's an element that adds an incredibly important dimension to not only the ways in which Miguel fails Miles and Gwen specifically, but adds another layer to his desire for a happy and stable family life (plus the entire dimension of fatherhood considering his own stepfather).

#miles is kind of in. part 2 of his arc which is fun. he's already resolved the conflict of coming out to his parents (even if he has to do #it again djsfhjksd) because he's overcome the emotional hurdle of initiating the convo. he's also solidified his confidence IN his identity #as spiderman and won't forsake that for anyone. im really interested to see what new conflict #they introduce w 42!Aaron and Miles (my personal guess would be it's more evidence that we arent bound by fate) #ask games #anon #theres also the question of how deconstructive btsv is going to go w its critique #is the canon solution going to be loopholes to the framework? or is the framework a flawed understanding of this force of nature and theres #far more leeway than we first thought. #i personally think meta narrative wise they'll go middle road of canon has value and use but it needs to not be so restrictive as to preven #new stories from being told and valued. where that leaves us w canon the plot device isssss a different bag of worms

I never did mention, but I finally beat Vesperia! It was okay--a more than solid rpg, but not one of my personal faves from the series. The plot was pretty standard for a Tales game--maybe slightly more deus ex machina-y in the final act, though I may just be forgetting the most egregious things from some of the other titles. Rita stands out as my single favorite character (to no one's surprise) and honestly probably one of my faves overall for the series. Judith was also pretty fun, and I liked Raven's story arc even if it felt a little clumsy or confusing at times. And obviously the Yuri-Flynn dynamic/relationship/tension pretty much carries the entire game.

Speaking of which, I've already devoured a week's worth of Fluri fanfiction (impeccable ship portmanteau, btw) and have a whole stack of longfics still waiting in my Marked for Laters. They're so stupid and noble and good for each other, I love them a lot. I'll have to rec some of these later if I think about it.

(I also found out yesterday that there's a heckign FEATURE-LENGTH MOVIE about the two of them as knights-in-training, which!!!!!!!! guess what I'm watching tonight)

Anyway. Glad I finally played it! Not sure it quite lived up to my expectations, but then again I think Arise simply raised my standards to an absurd level lol, so it's not entirely Vesperia's fault. It also would've helped if I'd been any good at using Yuri in combat, but alas,

I DO like him. he's a good and interesting character #but I never felt like they QUITE scratched some of the itches I was hoping they were going to?? #I don't even know how to explain it really #it's just. idk. they established him as this antihero vigilante archetype. and then had Flynn as his foil. #and then had the Empire vs Guilds conflict going on sort of in parallel to that #but not REALLY bc both Yuri and Flynn are too idealistic to let any blind nationalism get in the way of what they think is right/just #and............. idk like they DO explore a lot of nuance within that dynamic but I was left wanting MORE still #and maybe the ultimate threat being mostly unrelated to the war was part of the problem? #like. they were just cramming too many ideas on top of each other for this one. #the villain is War but also.... Climate Change? a little bit? lmao that's oversimplifying obviously but #if you've played it you know what I mean #the answer to Both problems is humanity overcoming differences and choosing to work together even when it's inconvenient #which is an AWESOME central theme for a story and I really dig it. but like I said it felt kinda disjointed at some parts #(disclaimer I'm sure if I'd written out my thoughts like this for the other Tales games I'd have just as many things to nitpick ahfdjshf) #(it was still really good!!! Hmm, what do I think of a dragon!yj w a skill like noah and riette’s? On the one hand, I absolutely LOVE the idea of dragon!yj. I love dragons. Period. Dragon with wings? Yes. Noodle dragon? Yes. Dragons are my weakness. Hell yes I’m on board w dragon!yj.

On the other hand, w yoojin as the protagonist, a story that centers around the idea of him getting stronger through this skill of his kind of reminds me of solo leveling…? From my perspective (in terms of the kind of story I could see myself writing), it would inevitably kind of devolve into yj focusing on himself and getting stronger in a physical sense, and since he’d need a motivating factor to get him from F- to S-Rank that’s not a homicidal older sister, I could see it leaning really heavily into his inferiority complex and wanting to prove himself worthy of yoohyun? Def a lot of potential for angst, either way. I think if that’s the kind of progression you want out of the concept, then that’d be perfect! But the appeal of sctir is not necessarily in its similarity to solo leveling haha so I’m a bit conflicted.

But! I don’t think you’re confined to that kind of story. Maybe if you leaned into the hoarding aspect of dragons instead, and it’s about yoojin collecting his hoard of precious humans and nurturing them to be the best that they can be…… Protecting his hoard from harm…… Providing for them…… mmmmm…… But then we’ve circled right back around to canon lmao
