This is kinda of random but why is Hecate short? I'm just curious because out of all the bad things in LO I liked how tall Hecate is and how she wore suits. ( she does look stunning in your version too )

I've found when it comes to character heights, it's really hard to discern what the actual intention was in their designs as Rachel's statements often contradict the actual appearance of the characters in the comic and how they compare to one another. For example, some people have stated Rachel revealed in her Patreon chit chat posts (or in FB groups, don't remember which) that Hades was unique for his height, being as tall as 10 feet, but as we see him in the comic, he's often closer to being 10 feet wide than 10 feet tall LOL (I don't think Rachel realized how big ten feet was when she said that tbh)

So in that regard, from a design POV it's hard to gauge if Hecate is actually that tall, or if she just appears tall because she's sometimes drawn at shoulder height with Hades (doesn't help that the character designs are always fluctuating), but also it's hard to say if one can be considered "tall" when standing next to Persephone who we know Rachel always draws disproportionately tiny compared to everyone else, to the point of outright infantilizing her.

TL ; DR: I had to pick a lane with the character designs and Hecate seemed more like she would realistically be closer to Persephone's height than to Hades (if Hades is someone who's supposed to be uniquely tall which I'm definitely trying to make him, he's meant to be a little over 6 feet tall in LR). And even Persephone's height is still around 5"5-5"7, so they're not even that "short", they just often appear shorter in relation to Hades. At least, that's the approach I'm going for lmaoo (my standard marker for it is that Persephone comes up to his chest / collarbone area).

Plus - though this is just my personal opinion - it's also just nice to have more characters around Persephone's height, not only to showcase how much taller Hades is compared to most people around him, but also to make her a little less singled out in the height department, as LO often made her absurdly small to the point of infantilizing her (￢_￢;)

That said, Artemis is taller than Persephone coming in around 5"9, and Aphrodite is meant to be quite tall (p much the same height as Hades!) and we'll be seeing more of her later on in the story, so fear not, there are tall girls to be found :'3 <3

Honestly it's been like.. more than a year since I joined the Tumblr fandom and I had some of the best time with a lot of people and I want to try and bring some of them up here now!

@cassie-thorne Max you're literally one of the first persons I talked to and I think you're super cool (scratch that, you're the coolest). Your art is just one of the best (open up shop, seriously, I'll pay five kidneys) and I just love how we used to geek out every Wednesday. (They aren't Wednesdaying anymore lmao). You're literally one of the nicest people ever and I still read some of your old comments because it's just chaos and just so much love and happiness. Thank you for being an active person in the fandom because I don't know how I'll ever get through the Crimes, Blades brainrot alone.

@jerzwriter Jerz, argh I absolutely love your thoughtful comments and your insight into things! And your writing - damn! You have this beautiful way with words with respect to dialogue and it's so witty and clever and just downright amazing. You actually have inspired me to put out my own HCs out there, get past that reluctance. Jensen being ace might have actually made me feel so much better about writing ace characters too, because apart from a couple of ace MCs who were pretty unknown so to speak, it was kind of lonely. The queer discussions we have within our fandom has honestly inspired me to step out of my "shell" and talk about it more.

I also want to take a moment to shout out @peonyblossom and @gutsfics too because just talking about queerness through mediums such as fics and art and metas helps so much and makes people feel a little less alone. I also want to send another shoutout towards @jaredkau for their Aromantic!Tobias headcanon and Tobias and Ethan in this QPR which makes me just lose my mind in the best way possible. And can I just say I love reading your lil headcanons so freaking much?? Like?? They're just so good - they're silly, they're fluffy, angsty and just downright queer and it's given me a lot of encouragement to write more queer pairings. I've always had this plaguing doubt about depicting LGBTQIA+ because I'd think, "Man even though I'm queer, I don't think I can do a good job of it" and now it's gone with the wind <333 Thank you so much for this!

Honestly there are a lot of people, I'll admit. I might even have to make a part two for the 'I'll-give-Da-Vinci-a-run-for-his-money' artists and 'baby-girl-i-can-invent-new-angsty-scenarios-you've-never-even-heard-of' writers that I missed out on in this post. But thank you for the wildest, chaotic and the kindest - if I can describe it that way - ride ever. I'm so grateful to be a part of this clan of people and we just gush out over pixellated people and make up our own stories because PB doesn't do that (okay enough PB jibes lol). LMAOO!! ok I'm not gonna spoil the R&L video but plspls if you watch it tell us what you think!!

OKAY I have watched it twice now. It is obviously another symbolic work but the first time I was so dumbfounded by all the weirdness that I got like only a couple of symbolisms. The second watch was more fruitful. So let's get to it!

The Brown Diamond

First of all, the moment we got the title and the teaser I knew this would have potty humour and that, also, it would be about anal again.

The standing doggystyle in the beginning is fun but does not have a significance in the story. However, since the title is "The Quest for the Brown Diamond" it might be an attempt to create a subconscious connection between the two.

It is interesting that the very next scene sort of subverts the expectations formed from the previous one: Rhett is a very awkward and reserved, shy, gentle, intelligent man with many phobias, Horst, whereas Link is Sandy, a loud, crude, angry but good hearted man, with an established interest in women. They seem like total opposites of the characters they play, however there is truth hidden in them i.e Rhett is an introvert and he can be gentle and intelligent and Link can be angry and loud despite being a good person. I don't understand what was exactly the concept behind making the characters diverge so much from Rhett and Link in other aspects. Perhaps it was a red herring.

Whatever they said in the end, there is no more genuine statement of affection than "You look weird as hell...... but you always do".

Horst says he has this hair to have a form of natural shield and this might give as a hint as to why Rhett's character has so many phobias and puts up so many defenses; maybe it's about all the things he considered sinful and unacceptable when he was still in the faith.

The whole quest to essentially steal the diamond is Sandy's initiative and passion, while Horst simply follows because that's what he does, he follows Sandy. This might explain Sandy's assertiveness; by every allegorical work of theirs we have seen before it is implied again and again that Link (perhaps counterintuitively) was actually the pursuer of their relationship. Don't forget Carney in Friday's GMMore freaking saying that Link was Romeo between the two, whom Stevie had just described as an extrovert who pursued his relationship with Juliet! And that was the last episode before this video! Isn't all this...WILD? This also suggests that at this point a lot of the crew members know.

Horst opens tentantively the door and Sandy sarcastically says: "Look, Horst contributing already to the project!". They get in the mansion, where Sandy decides to rub himself on every single surface while Horst watches scandalized. The one time poor Horst tries to mimic Sandy, he realises he was trying to rub on a cherub which obviously kills his mood again. So this is likely about how much Link had to "throw himself out there" to make this work and how hesitant and scared Rhett was in the beginning.

This gives me Rhett mixing his words flashback and saying "Link McLaughlin". Except this here is intentional. Then again someone could say best friends and branded business partners could do that too. However, with all the other stuff here, we can suspect this is not that simple of a case.

Horst pumps them both up with energizing food for the quest and it might be associated with the whole theme of the puzzle video, where it was implied they needed some... assistance in their first times. Sandy has to eat some seaweed, an experience he describes as "cunnilungus with the ocean" and Horst eats a sausage wrapped in bologna, which is the point where he breaks character a little, as Rhett apparently finds this too amusing! This all means that the energizing food scene though is heavily sex-coded.

After a straightTM moment, when Sandy builds up the courage to ask his ex-stepson (Tanner? Tunner?) if his mom still thinks about him, he starts looking for the diamond. He mentions he was looking at his Nana's drawers when he was young but then he asks this to be cut from the film as he doesn't want people to think that about him, which means this too is suspicious and in this case it probably implies he was exploring his feminine side. Ironically, this was also mentioned in the last GMMore, when Link asked for a few more years before he starts dressing like Miss Pingy...!

Meanwhile, Horst doesn't look for the diamond but gives as an empathetic, admiring, caring and loving description of Sandy. Yes, Sandy is frantic, angry, a brute but Horst sees through him and understands why he is the way he is. Sandy's childhood is similar to Link's to some extent.

Sandy follows and gives a shorter but emotional description of Horst: he stands out, he is a little weird but he is good and smart. Sandy also establishes he is protective of him and warns the stepson to not hurt Horst.

AND THEN OF COURSE THEY BROUGHT UP THE PUZZLE ARRYFFUJBIOGD Sandy even has a tattoo of the notorious puzzle piece, while Horst keeps it in his bracelet of things he fears and loves. (If you don't know what the deal with the puzzle is please read this).

Horst finds a guitar and starts playing a sweet song... so sweet that it is literally called

Sandy, much like real Link every time Rhett sings and plays music, stops his frantic search and listens hypnotized to Horst's playing. He joins him by the fireplace and they sing together. It is very sweet, very domestic. When the song ends, the silence between them is heavy and uncomfortable but full of warmth. Sandy asks Horst how he is feeling and Horst admits he is still scared. Sandy, pensive but respectful, decides that they should go, as apparently this whole thing isn't working out for them. He expresses regret for dragging Horst into this.

But, lo and behold! At the last moment, Horst finds a secret door and is suddenly the more excited one who reminds Sandy of their quest. In this secret room, they find a video recorded by the deceased owner of the mansion and the diamond, who gives instructions on how to get the diamond. The quest is bound to a riddle and this riddle IS THIS ONE:

To be shared between three, the heart must not be free but the damage is done if the heart is given to one.

Get it? If you have to give your heart to other two, your heart is not free, but then again when the heart is given to THE one only, that's when shit hits the fan (well literally in this video).

Can you believe it? Can you believe this is the story of these apparently extremely romantic middle-aged Southern youtubers?

The heart, the diamond, is of course inside Bahau moon, a three-ass artifact. Reminds of "the way to a woman's heart is through a worm's / woman's anus".

Sandy and Horst hear noises from upstairs and it appears Brandy, Horst's best friend at work, was trying to steal the diamond before them. And that is because Horst told her their secret as “he tells her everything”. What does Brandy symbolizes? Horst loves her a lot as a friend and keeps no secrets from her, Sandy is antagonistic to her. Sandy gets his hand in this ass first and competes with her for the diamond. Horst follows hesitantly again. They realise neither can win over the heart and all be happy. So Horst implores them to all lay off the heart diamond. In fact, Sandy has grabbed the heart and agrees to let it go only if Brandy promises to also not stick her hand to the ass again. Sorry for suggesting this...but can Brandy be a wife, like Jessie? Once they are all out of the Bahau moon and safe, Horst realises that his "phobias and loves" bracelet is dropped inside the artifact. He begs the other two to get inside the Bahau moon once more so he can retreive his bracelet. This might be associated to Rhett always having this pattern that he wants this to stop, to prevent it but then he is the one falling back to it (check Hazel where he tries to save Link but then Hazel takes him first and in the dig-a-hole video where he pulls Link out of his enjoyment only to later suggest a larger hole than Link did and drive the excavator himself). Horst really begs Brandy, tells her to do it for the sake of their “old good memories” together. This whole thing reminds me of that time Rhett was bringing up a lot that his marriage had gone through a milestone, that he and Jessie had had a very big and serious talk that changed but also supposedly “strengthened” their marriage. And then once Link let it slip that he was present during that serious talk of the couple, which one would expect would have happened privately.

Brandy betrays them, takes the brown diamond and leaves them. The Bahau moon starts releasing toxic gas. Sandy tells the camera man to save himself. The camera man still records Sandy and Horst's last moments from outside the window. As they are dying, they hold hands with their still free hand. Sandy asks forgiveness for everything but Horst does not hold anything against him. Before he takes his last breath, Sandy tells Horst he loves him. They die there, trapped forever. This ending resembles Hazel a lot, where they disappear forever in Hazel's forest. In Hazel, Link was also trying to tell Rhett he loves him before what he thought would be their last moments.

This gives the riddle another dimension, because in the end Sandy and Horst remain with their One, meaning each other, also stressed by the love confession, and this kills them. It is perhaps suggested that Brandy (a wife?) got her heart back and went on with her life, while they can't do the same. They stay trapped with the love that kills them.

Thanks a lot for telling me!!! Yes it doesn't surprise me one bit. The ending is supposed to have that despair and melancholy of always staying trapped, hidden. Just like Hazel. Very interesting that it was braver before the cuts. Perhaps they thought it would make it too obvious? But, too little is obvious for A LOT of their fans, right? I also don't understand, do they actually want people to pick up on it after all, or not? They confuse me so much.

Unless the few of us still imagine all that stuff lol never in my life before have I seen friends act like that but the funniest thing is that I haven't seen people in love act like that either! Will we get an autobiography from them in the distant future, I wonder? Because we should.

Hello, thank you very much for the ask!! I am very grateful. I wish you well, too. These are some pretty tough questions, so I'm just going to roll off by vibes.

Some of my responses may be a bit random lmao, Lancer Cu drives me into the very depths of the abyss, and leaves me questioning many things.

2. 2. A canon or headcanon hill I will die on

I will die on the hill that I think Lancer Cu is a little bit more emotionally distant than the external image he projects to the world. I agree with all the people who say he'd be the best ally ever, but I just have a feeling deep in my gut that despite this, he still gives me a vibe of being very 'far away'. I'm not sure how to word this. I am staking my soul on the hill that he can be both overly familiar and intimate at the same time as being hard to grasp onto. He reminds me a bit of the sea, endlessly flowing into horizon.

Er I don't know really, I guess I think what I'm saying is that he definitely does strike me as good company, just that I do have these strange feelings regarding him as well.

Also I don't think he's monogamous, myths aside- he really does seem like he's out to indulge in a variety of experiences with different people, to shoot the breeze for a fair moment until it ends. I don't think he settles down easily, even if he does give an impression of being able to quickly form relationships and ties with others.

14. Most heroic moment

OOF. This question is extremely difficult. Cu has many heroic moments, he slays so hard so often- that I feel kind of envious at times...taking on Gilgamesh for days, rescuing Rin/enacting vengeance upon Kirei, being a major key that helps Emiya to have more ease of access when taking on larger foes- he is a very nifty and handy guy in many situations. It was also very interesting seeing how his actions can even be dangerous for the general public at times, such as in Heaven's Feel (damn the exploding cars etc that was chaos!)

But one thing that has struck me deeply is his story mode in Fate/Unlimited Codes. This is just my personal feelings, but I felt choked up by the scene in which Lancer says he was willing to go to the extremes because 'there was a woman who believed in me'. The way he honors and carries Bazett's will until the very end, despite the horrendous bullshit his story arc takes him through; left a very strong impact on me. Even in death, he never forgot her. He carried her will, up until the very last moment.

To me, that's a truly heroic thing to do. To ensure that Bazett is remembered, even after her death. Lancer's way of honoring and covering for others' wishes and needs feels very heroic to me, but also deeply tragic.

23. If they were a scented candle, what would they smell like?

Gwah, this is another really difficult question! My instinct says sandalwood and pine. I'd also add in the ocean breeze. In this sense, I think my answer reflects what scents I associate with him, more than what he smells like (LMAOO CUZ THEY SAY HE HAS A BEAST-LIKE SCENT IN F/SN? WHAT DO BEASTS SMELL LIKE?!!!) To me, I also feel as if he smells like the sun when its rays shine upon a surface for a long time, but this is just indicative of my undying thirst for him.

I have a feeling Cu Chulainn may smell like the outdoors and of a metallic tang- like iron- and the smell of the game (guilty gear reference). But I doubt this would make for a nice candle...

In other words, I have no clue XD

44. Their happiest memory

Oof, this question is extremely difficult. To be honest, I am completely unsure what Cu Chulainn Lancer's happiest memory is. That is an extremely good question.

Is it memories of his loved ones? His childhood? Of the shooting star that birthed his prophecy? His boyhood deeds and early adventures? I am honestly unsure. I wish I could answer this. He does also seem to focus on the small joys of life, though. So I also wonder if his happiest memory could be something that I could possibly be overlooking.

If you or anyone else has any ideas on what the answer to this question may be, I'd love to hear it. To be honest, I would declare I don't know Lancer Cu's personality very well. And it took me like 8 years just to see past his surface by a tiny inch! So I've got a looong way to go when it comes to understanding him.

The main character, in Alchemy Of Souls, Naksu, gives me deep Uttara Bhadrapada/Pisces energy.

Uttara Bhadrapada is the Warrior Star, and as she said and I quote, "They call me Naksu. For wherever I go, heads fall to the ground."

And also, her water dragon form?? As she enters scene to her character intro? Yes, Ruler of Uttara Bhadrapada is Ahir Budhnya – the atmospheric serpent dragon, also known as the water dragon.

She has the ability to gather energy from water and control it in a way to make spells or fight her opponents.

The character also bragged once that she can run on water like she's flying. Sis said she can make it rain. Uttara Bhadrapada has Varshodyamana Shakti, the ability to bring rain. As the nakshatra is known for 'The Bringer Of Cosmic Rain'.

The actress playing her - Go Yoon Jung - has an unknown Ascendant, unfortunately. So I can only speculate and say she is an Uttara Bhadrapada Ascendant. She looks so much like a Saturn nakshatra.

But then she has Saturn in Uttara Bhadrapada. We can also speculate that Saturn can be her Chart Ruler. She's got a Pisces stellium in her entire chart, still. Saturn Uttara Bhadrapada is conjuct her Ketu, and her Atmakaraka planet (Mars) – the last two in Revati. Though in the drama I see more Uttara Bhadrapada themes than Revati. She couldn't be anymore Pisces. Which makes a lot of sense, because Naksu works a lot with water and lakes (Uttara Bhadrapada represents the darkest depths of the sea, as the serpent lies under deep pressures of water. A scene in episode 2, she falls into a lake in which she sinks deep under and suddenly regains some of her strength & powers). Her character is very watery. She's unhinged, sneaky and very calculating, which is Uttara Bhadrapada.

The actress playing another incarnation of her, Jung So-min, is also a Pisces Sun (in Purva Bhadrapada). This is where our great powerful mage, Naksu, loses her powers and abilities in this weak body she switched to; like going backwards literally from Uttara Bhadrapada to Purva Bhadrapada. Jung So-min has an Ardra Moon, which is interesting. Since Uttara Bhadrapada, Purva Bhadrapada, and Ardra are all Rudra nakshatras. Which makes me curious how the story will play into that. I'm only on episode 3.

Whether the story declines in quality or not, I'm literally in love. She is so, so Pisces. Her stoicism hiding all the passion, grief and trauma brewing beneath her. The fact that, even though she has weakened and can no longer be the assassin she was with her inability to access her powers now, she's still very fierce and stubborn. Babe literally be making death threats in her head to those that slight her lmaoo. Both actresses did a terrific job of her.

It's sort of weird in a way because for me I'm like yeah Cas is gay (and if people headcanon him as anything else - that isn't straight I mean, I can respect that), however I feel like for Dean it's like I am a bit iffy about headcannoning him as gay, and even though I have read gay dean fics, I am still a staunch believer that Dean is bi, where as Cas generally falls under the gay umbrella.

for me i have my set interpretations for when i'm watching the show (which is similar to you, generally gay / queer / labelless cas and bi dean) but for Pondering and rotating around scenarios in my mind and fics i'm open to all possibilities. i've read a good bunch of gay dean fics and enjoyed them a lot. for me, i'll always read canon dean as bi, though i lean more towards him being the flavor of bi that's more into men than women. So in that sense I'm a little bit closer to the gay dean truthers. I can see where they're coming from with some of their interpretations of canon, and I respect it as long as it's not like, stemming from misogyny and just wanting to hate on spn women, y'know? but yeah, i know gay dean headcanons especially can get dicey in fandom and people often feel like it's bi erasure, and those feelings are valid but we can also respect different interpretations, and not automatically take things in bad faith or assume biphobia. often headcanons + interpretations are personal. a gay viewer may see themselves in dean, may resonate with him in some way, may interpret his past relationships with women as similar to their own past experiences. and headcanoning dean as gay instead of bi doesn't mean that dean's past relationships with women weren't important or meaningful either.

i think it's easy to get very attached and defensive abt our personal headcanons (and i know i am not immune to this either, though i try to keep an open mind). but i think we can all appreciate these characters in all their multitudes, and we can allow conflicting headcanons to co-exist, and celebrate all the various and infinite ways these characters can exist. bi dean and nebulously queer cas will always be MY truth for canon but i won't tear down another person's personal interpretations (as long as we're not saying they're straight lmaoo)

don't you know (i dream of you): Perfect Machine is probably angstier but I haven't quite finished the last chapter, so of my finished fics, this one is it, given the character death and it all being about grief post Baldur's Gate 3.

Honestly my fics with happy endings aren't finished yet and they're more...bittersweet with explorations of trauma than straight up happy lmaoo.

I've gotten some weird comments before but honestly not really a lot of hate. Juust a few that crack me up like the person who thought i hate men because Emilia saves Kaidan in Encroachment...which canonically happens.......

BG3 has made me write much more smut than I used to. Used to be an occasionally thing but more often now. All wlw pretty much.

Hmm, I think I have intention and capability to ifnish the majority of my WIPs. The only onee that might fit ismy post war ME fic, mostly cause I'm not entirely sure what I really want to do with it outside of some ideas I want to explore.

Description sometimes of like, surroundings and that stuff. I find character stuff more interesting so can sometimes be a bit too bare bones with that.

Nah. II do one off words sometimes but if a character is speaking in another lanmguage I'll usually write it in english with mention that they;re talking in another language.

Eragon llmao. That was my mediocre book series I loved as a teenager what can I say.

20. favorite fic you’ve ever written?

I have a big soft spot for Encroachment. it was the first big fic I finished, it was born out of me wanting to see the ash/shep milscifii fic I wanted in the world. I've gotten some very loyal readers over the last six years I appreciate immensely.

wolf 359: sci-fi comedy about a group of people and a sentient ai stuck on a space ship 7.5 light years from earth. capitalism is evil. aliens are real. there’s a plant monster in the air ducts. if you haven’t listened go listen rn. it takes a bit to get going but once it does it’s so fucking good.

the adventure zone: balance: mcelroy dnd podcast. it’s all dick jokes and shenanigans right up until you’re crying. my pro tip is to listen to it on 1.5-2x speed.

the magnus archives: this was the first podcast i properly got into and it will always have a special place in my heart. horror anthology with an overarching plot. martin blackwood i love you.

king falls am: i struggle to actually rec this podcast bc of how problematic it is at times and how it’s unfinished (bc of infighting among the creators lmaoo). however if you’re willing to wade thru sporadic racism and sexism, stupid overarching plots, and general tasteless jokes, it’s got a genuinely great cast of characters and a super fun vibe. it’s night vale but there are two radio hosts, a believer and a skeptic. the town is super wacky, it’s really funny, and it’s got a delightful cast of quirky background characters. plus a musical episode. lily wright i love you.

directive: super short sci-fi about a man charged with taking care of the sleeping/hibernating passengers on a long haul space flight with only an ai for company. don’t wanna say more than that, you should just go listen for yourself. it’s quite good, made me cry, and you can knock it out in an afternoon.

knowing that he had indian heritage, you probably should’ve thought twice before agreeing to taste test for him. but uhhh, yeah, you definitely didn’t because here you are with a nice hot bowl of curry and a lil bit of raita on the side. hayama would’ve given you less, but he also knew that you hadn’t eaten today, so his loving instincts said ‘feed this bitch’.

as he put the bowl down in front of you - you have no idea how his hand can just grab the bowl from above and hold it by the rim - he placed a gentle kiss to your temple.

‘don’t be nice, tell me what you actually think, my dear,’ he said, leaning on the kitchen island and awaiting your feedback. as you took a bite, your face portrayed about thirty emotions all at once. ‘how is it?’ he asked.

coughing into your fist, your eyebrows furrowed and tears lined your eyelashes. ‘yeah, it’s really goo-’ another cough interrupted your sentence, alarming hayama.

‘are you ok?’

after hacking up your lungs just a little longer, you smiled at him. ‘i’m fine. it’s good, though you could never cook anything bad.’ hayama frowned at you slightly, waiting for your actual feedback. after a pause and maybe another twenty seconds of suppressing coughs and tears, you spoke again. ‘it’s got a lot of kick, don’t you think?’

a low chuckle filled the room and he pushed the small dish of raita towards you. ‘this will help make it milder for you if you want.’ his smile faltered as you dumped the whole thing into the curry, and even then you were still coughing.

‘yeah, i mean... it helps a little bit?’

‘you don’t need to finish it if you think it’s too spicy-’

‘NO, SHUT UP, I’M EATING IT!’

as you kept forcing the curry down your throat, you didn’t notice hayama leave the room to grab two things: a vomit bag and a box of tissues. when he returned, you were only about halfway through the dish, but you were powering through, even if there were tears streaming down your face and your were sniffing like crazy.

taking a tissue, he took your chin gently and tilted it towards him, wiping your tears from your face before leaning down to give you a gentle kiss. when he pulled away, he ruffled your hair affectionately.

‘thank you for enduring this pain for my sake,’ he said with amusement. he moved to walk away, but your hand took his wrist. turning back to you curiously, you held out a spoonful for him. taking a bite of the curry, he pondered for a moment, and though his spice tolerance was vastly better than yours, he found himself saying, ‘you know what... i think i see what you mean.’

In which mama and son share a joint and the same, morbid story, starting with the simple question: Can you remember how you died?

A/N: I apparently had this finished for AGES and just never posted ? LMAOO but some good old morbid family bonding times lmao or when Damien realizes that time is a circle, and Valdemar may not be all they seek to be lol very dialog heavy and more of a character study

Damien held his breath, swallowing down a gasp. No matter how often it happened, his mama always surprised him at these late hours. He was always so sure that if he waited just enough, his late-night walks would go unnoticed. But no, no matter how late the evening grew, he was sure to find his mama sitting out on the veranda, a joint wilting away in their small hand.

The first time had been awkward; Damien hadn’t known what it was, the smell foreign and nauseating. Donna had fumbled to explain themself, to justify that it wasn’t tobacco, that it was better than that if he could believe it. He knew how much his father hated cigarettes—which never stopped Damien from smoking them, but the idea of his mama smoking them was initially alarming. Damien's logical conclusion was to ask for a hit if it was so much better, his curiosity buzzing inside his gut.

It was difficult for Donna to tell him no—standing before them was a young man, older than they had been when they had started smoking. He wasn’t their baby boy any longer; how could they say no? There was plenty to share, like that could ever be an excuse. Better he does it with them and not one of those snotty rich kids. They would probably give him something laced, the sickos.

That was the beginning of it; be it morning or night, they would pass a joint back and forth, mostly sitting in silence or humming or weaving stories together. Some real, some fantasy, most a mixture of the two.

“You got enough for a second person?”

“For you, mi vida? Always.”

Donna was always prepared; once Damien finished the rest of what Donna was smoking, they were already beginning to roll another. They had tried countless times to teach Damien. Every time ended the same: they suggested he marry someone who could roll for him whenever he wanted. Still, he watched them closely, his eyes wide as they worked. They didn’t mind this; by now, they were used to his staring. It was a new habit, one that typically put off others. But never Donna.

“Does father ever do it?”

“Do what? Roll? Gods no. He can’t even pack me a bowl!” Donna snorted, their laughter a bit wheezy. It made Damien smile. “He prefers edibles anyway. He can make a mean pot brownie—you can barely taste it.”

“Gods, it’s been so long since I’ve had papa’s desserts…”

“We’ll make some tomorrow! It’ll make him happy if you ask him. Did I ever tell you the story?”

“Of how he won over Titi Dominique by making her flan?”

“Yes! We thought he’d win her over with sangria, but it was the flan that did it. She said it was almost as good as my abuelo’s. Almost. I’d never tasted it, but can you picture that? Your old man beating out someone who grew up making it?”

“No wonder he liked making it. Must have given him a big head.”

“Huge. But he earned it.”

“That time anyway.”

The two giggled at that as Donna passed Damien the joint. Damien raised his eyebrows, frowning.

“You rolled it, mama.”

“I smoked more than you. Go, it’s for you.”

Damien smiled, his chest swelling. I love you. He had never realized how much his mama said without saying it. And so clearly too; nothing ever felt like a secret. Most times he had to consult some higher power to figure out what his father was saying sometimes, what he actually meant. But, and Damien could admit this, he was almost the exact same way. Glancing up at Donna, he summoned a flame to his fingertips. They smiled and shut their eyes, reclining into the padded bench.

Are you my mother? Am I really yours?

“Mama?”

“Yeah, baby?”

“Can you remember how you died?”

Damien almost immediately regretted the question. He winced as if he was hurt, his hands shooting up to pull the roots of his hair. Donna’s eyes were wide open, though their lips were a tight line. In the low light of the moon, Damien could see the raised scars along their mouth and cheek. Three gashes. One more trailed to their neck. He had grown up looking at them, it was never out of place. But he knew his father had known them before it. Had seen their face before they were his mama. Before everything.

“I… I’m so sorry. I don’t know what I’m saying, it’s late I—“

“It’s only a little morbid.” Donna tried to laugh as they ran their hand over their face. “But I think we’re both a little morbid. You gotta be, I think. In this family anyway.”

“You really don’t need to answer. I was just talking. I’ll be quiet!”

“No, no, no,” Donna sighed, bending forward to place their arms on their knees. “You’re your father’s son. You can talk to me, Damien. And you can ask me things.”

“I don’t have to ask everything.”

“Do you remember what your Titi Dominique said when you were little? Of course, you probably don’t. That’s okay, I can’t remember half of the things she said to me when I was little.”

Damien held his breath as Donna softly grabbed both of his hands. He was pulling his hair. Hard, he finally registered. They guided his hands to begin twiddling the ends of his hair instead. He repeated the motion without thinking as he focused his gaze on his lap. He didn’t need to see it to know his mama was smiling. They did this with him ever since he was little—that he remembered.

Remembered clearly.

“Well, anyway, the point is she was always saying how much she loved your questions. All the time, she would have the whole inn roaring in laughter as she listed off all the things you asked her that day.”

“They were laughing at me?”

“Oh, they loved you! They thought you were the smartest little guy around! They loved how brutal you were. So to the point. They thought you were the best kid—and they were right, you know.”

Damien sat in silence, a small smile tugging on his lips. Donna smirked before reclining back into their seat.

“All of that to say that you can ask me things. Anything. Even the gross stuff. Like what’s the best lube to use for anal.”

“Mama!“

“But I can’t really remember what it felt like to die, no. Or how exactly it happened,” they finally continued, silencing Damien swiftly. “I don’t have a lot of memories of the plague. Might be the magic, might just be… it sucks to die. Especially like that. But that entire time was just… death, death, death. Everyone felt like they were dying—if not now, then soon.”

“Papa said there wasn’t enough room for the bodies. Is that… is that true?”

“It is. I remember how much we tried to make up for it. But nothing was the same, nothing would ever be good enough. The lazaret was the last choice, but we had to. You’ve talked to your father about this?”

“Only… only one time. He got a little… a little wonky.”

“It was a dark time for him. For all of us, but… but especially him.”

“He lost you. That’s when he got wonky… talking about you.”

“He lost more than just me,” Donna inhaled sharply, shutting their eyes again. Damien reached out and held their hand. They ran their thumb over his the charred top of his hand; they didn't react at all to the rough texture. “Your father… loves this city. In some ways it’s like his first child—shit, that is totally not something I should be saying to you—"

“No, no, like… I know. Comes with being the former consul’s son and all.”

“So you understand! Even before he lost me, he was losing his people. No one knew when the plague would end—if it would ever end. Entire families were dying together. A whole generation gone. Just here one day, gone another. And your father could do nothing—even Nadia, if you can imagine it, could do nothing.”

“It’s hard to picture that… that she couldn’t just like… will the plague to end with her sheer mental fortitude.”

“I think she hates that too—that she couldn’t do the impossible. And it was impossible. It didn’t matter what we did—the plague wouldn’t stop, even if we moved people to better, safer places. Even if we put a physician in every home. It wouldn’t have ended. Not with… him there.”

Damien took a long drag from the joint next. He refused to acknowledge the chill running up his spine, so much like a finger tickling him. He felt eyes burning into him, somewhere hidden, far away. Always far away.

“You don’t… you weren’t there when it happened, right?”

“What?”

“The masquerade… when… you know—“

“No. I had died before that. It’s funny, in some ways the masquerade feels like some fucked up fairy tale I was told as a kid. But it wasn’t that. And I wasn’t a kid either.”

“It’s more like a scary story for me. Like a… what’s the word? Like it’s teaching you a less—“

“Cautionary tale! Like a cautionary tale.”

“Yes! Any time you guys mention… the old count, you get that way. He’s like the bogeyman.”

“He was the bogeyman. Or he wanted people to think so anyway. Really he was a massive loser, but he was a loser with a body count. So that makes him dangerous.”

Damien swallowed, ignoring what he thought sounded like stomping feet. Like a child having a tantrum. He could only stare at the scars on his mama’s face.

“But… shit, where were we?”

“Dying…?”

“Dying! Yes. I… I really don’t remember much of it. I vaguely remember getting sick. Or at least what made me sick—this is a bit graphic. Are you sure you want to hear?”

“Yes. If I don’t I’ll… I’ll interrupt you.”

“Perfect.” Donna took another deep breath, grounding themself. Damien leaned closer, dread and excitement eating away at him. “I’ve told you already I was the head physician's assistant. We had worked together before in the palace—they were the quaestor proper, but medicine was really where their interests were.” Damien felt his blood run cold; he couldn’t read Donna’s face, their eyes far away. He suddenly felt jittery and itchy. “Or maybe not medicine. I thought it was medicine, but really it was just…” They paused, swallowing. Damien could have sworn he heard a giggle—a real giggle—and had to stop himself from gasping. “Dying. They were very interested in people dying. How it happened, what it looked like, all that shit. That meant they were very hands-on with the patients—I’ll spare you those details. Just know that I was always at their side, recording anything and everything they told me to.

It started out with just writing down their weird little rambling, then it got more… hands-on. Helping them jar specimens. Helping them prepare a body. I never questioned any of it, not after the first week. I was just so… so lost.”

I know how you feel—I felt like that with them too.

“I was still reeling from being banished—my face hadn’t even healed properly. And it was a lot of dying people all the time—it never stopped. You just… grew numb to it. That’s what makes me the most upset, I think. That I didn’t remain upset by everything, that it no longer scared me. I just… let things happen to me.”

Donna paused to rub Damien’s shoulder; he had started to tremble. He clung to their hand.

“I should stop—“

“No! No… please, you’re the only one who talks to me like… like a person. Like I’m an adult.”

Donna frowned at that; it was clear they wanted to address it, wanted to refute it. Instead, they took another long hit before continuing.

“That’s why I don’t even remember when I got sick. It just was a thing that happened to me after a lot of things had already happened to me. I remember we were examining a blister or something like that—it was ginormous and weird and… I think one of the beetles had kind of… burrowed into their skin? Something gross like that. And then. Well. That was it. It was on me and it must have bit me. The rest is truly a blur: I was okay, and then I wasn’t, and then I was taken to the lazaret and—“

“You were still alive? When you went to… when they took you? I thought just the bodies went. So they could be taken care of. Not real people...”

“I would have gotten people sick, Dami. They… they couldn’t keep me there��“

“But all the other patients stayed? Why send you then when you were alive?”

Donna’s brows knit together; it felt like Damien was shouting at someone, someone else entirely. Accusing a person who wasn’t there. Was there?

“I don’t… I don’t know. That’s just how it happened. I was so sick, I didn’t… I don’t remember anything of the island just the boat ride and then… I died there.”

“But dad? You must have been able to say goodbye. He must have… they must have—“

“No. He… I would have made him sick, Damien. Valdemar, they…”

Donna’s voice broke, finally. It was just like speaking with his father: everything was factual, to the point, until either one had to speak of the other. It was too painful for the couple to think of, to think of one without the other, to think of never being able to say goodbye. But it had happened, the memory like a scar deep inside one another. Unseen but felt.

I know. That’s how I felt too when they made me leave without saying goodbye.

“We can stop, mama. That’s… we can stop. I'm sorry I got upset--”

“I’m sorry! It wasn’t as cool of an answer as I thought it would be. I can make one up? Or you make one up?”

“You’re asking your only child to make up a story about how you died?”

“That’s… terrible when you say it out loud, yeah. I guess my maternal skills are… lacking.”

And then they were laughing. They both had the same, wheezy cackle that could shake the leaves off of trees; tears stung their eyes as both took turns hacking into their arms. Naturally, Donna’s hand landed on Damien’s back. He leaned closer to them, resting his head on their shoulder as he giggled. Donna sighed, snuggling closer to him.

“That’s… all over now, though. I mean, look! I’m here! Flesh and all! Lots of flesh. Maybe too much.”

“Flesh, flesh, flesh…” Damien murmured, a sleepy smile on his face. Donna smiled and shook their head.

“Let’s get you to bed. It’s double not a good thing to get my only son high out of his mind when we have work to do tomorrow.”

“Nah, I think that part’s fine. Every parent should do this.

“Let’s go, mi Vida. I’ll walk you.”

Linking pinkies, Donna led the pair back to Damien’s chambers. They continued whispering on the walk back, both cracking harmless jokes at one another. Once they made it to Damien’s room, he stopped them, holding both of Donna’s hands in his. They had finally registered that he was without his gloves; his charred skin rubbed against theirs, the blacks of his hands clashing with their skin.

“Are you mad, mama?”

“Not at all, my darling boy. When I say you can ask me anything, I mean it.”

Damien held their hands tighter, looking down at their feet. He looked so much like he did as a child, with the same pout and the same puffed cheeks. Despite everything, despite the years and space and grief, he was still their son.

He was still theirs.

“I… I’m glad you’re my mom. And I’m glad you’re here.” Damien swallowed, refusing to look at them. He didn’t need to see that tears were welling in Donna’s eyes, didn’t need to hear this was something they had craved hearing from him. “I love you. Good night.”

“I… I love you, too, vida,” Donna whispered before placing a flurry of kisses on Damien’s head. He snorted, finally grinning. “I’m glad you’re my son. And words can’t tell you how happy I am to have you here—that we can both be here.”

They didn’t need to see the tears welling in Damien’s eyes as he bolted to his room. Didn’t need him to say it to know he had been craving those words from them for some time. Perhaps ever since he came home.

Mother and son, both dead and rising from the grave, wishing one another good night, promising that they would see each other in the morning.

santiago is probably the only one here very willing to do so, and even he has anxiety, because these are all characters who are in some way or another worried about public perception. chrysos for his part doesn't want what he has with santiago to possibly be taken away from him, so while he gladly accepts santiago's affection in public, he doesn't reciprocate unless they're in private.

and i think azul and davis would also keep it lowkey. i mean it would be OBVIOUS but davis is a bit shy when it comes to romance and ... okay azul can be dramatic af so i respect that but he also is a student at a school so he probably keeps it subtle most of the time.

basically both pairings would probably be more affectionate when there's no eyes on them lol

chrysos is flustered and very insistently telling a tipsy santiago to keep it down bc santiago wont stop going on about how PRETTY his boyfriend is and how SKILLED and AMAZING and HARDWORKING he is and how much he likes him. eventually chrysos just resigns himself to listening to the adorable babbling and also getting a lot of kisses all over the face, but if anyone looks at them weird they're getting a death glare

santiago probably didn't realize how physically clingy chrysos could be until the mer finally started to get tipsy after a surprisingly large amount of shots--now he has one very pouty boyfriend who can be found either latching around his waist from behind in a tight hug, or holding onto his arm and leaning his head on his shoulder, or intertwining their fingers , at any given moment. not that santiago minds, since physical affection is also his love language~ he'll just humor drunk chrysos

OK HEARTSTOPPER S2 THOUGHTS INCOMING

(spoiler warning ofc)

I love the fact we got to see so much more of the characters than we did in the comics. Like the Elle and Tao storyline was so much more fleshed out and there were more Tara and Darcy scenes too which was amazing

And the fact we got to see more about Darcy and her home life - however heart-breaking those scenes were I LOVED the way they were shot. Like the constant purple shadows compared to the bright yellows and pinks at Tara's (the lesbian flag compared to the straight flag/the implications of repression) will forever go insane over the colouring

The teachers storyline OMG, I adore Mr Ajayi and Mr Farouk they really just added so much to this season (and the friendship between Mr Ajayi and Miss Singh was adorable!!! Never knew I needed it but definitely did). I'm pretty sure that was the only story they got in the comics??? As far as I can remember... But I'm really hoping there is something more for them in the next season, since the side stories are getting more scenes.

SAHAR AND IMOGEN??????? Look I adore Imogen and I have been hoping for her to be sapphic (lost hope a bit when they did the ben plot) and the fact they might actually be doing it??? I'm not just being delusional right that was clearly setting them up? Like the whole 'token straight' thing SCREAMS being in the closet because I swear that happens to almost every person that constantly reiterates they are the token straight lmaoo. Then the cuddling after the party, and the HEARTSTOPPER MOMENT AT PROM!! Imogen literally getting heart eyes when she saw Sahar playing the guitar likeee

Also the way they all have different doodles for their heartstopper moments. The leaves for nick and charlie, butterflies for tao and elle, and musical notes for imogen and sahar <333

The aroace rep in this season was also everything. When the trailer came out and everyone was clinging onto that one clip of James and Isaac and hoping they would get together I was so worried about what was gonna happen (like I thought they would just make Isaac ace and not aro - which would have been fine ofc like that's valid!! but I don't think I've ever seen an (established) aro character in media before and having a character not in a relationship would be so good) so it was really nice that they actually did it. Tbh I was almost tearing up during Isaac's scenes because everything he was saying was something I've felt before still struggling with that tbh because the hopeless romantic in me doesn't want to be aroace?? if that makes sense?? idk i'm tryna deal with it but that's not the pointtt I'm just really happy Isaac got his moment, and really excited to see him fully embrace himself and be happy with who he truly is :')

And Nick and Charlie's storyline this season was so.. I just love them. They are so supportive of one another - and just one small thing I adore is how much they hug each other. Like not a lot of shows present a lot of physical affection besides the hand touching and pining before hand, and then just kissing. But they hug so much and just show their affection and love for one another and I really love that.

Also the way Charlie stood up for himself this season was just *chefs kiss*. For a character who has to be banned from saying the word 'sorry' it's so nice to see him be confident in himself and not just accept the first half hearted apologies that people give him. Like slamming the door on Harry, and actually telling Ben all the things he did that affected him. Like I wanted some violence tbh LMAOOO like the whole time Ben was practically begging for a slap, but those scenes were a good substitute. Also Ben's last scene where he steps away from all of the pride posters and rainbows... Heart breaking, but I can't feel too much sympathy bc being closeted still doesn't accuse assault and all of his general asshole behaviour, yknow??

AND TORI MY LOVEEE!!! never have i related to a character more omgg, like I kid you not every single one of her lines is something I would say/have said before. She is me I am her fr. And the phone kicking scene, WHAT A QUEEN I actually love her. She wasn't in this season enough honestly.

One last thing (I have way more thoughts but I can't remember what they were rn) Sarah deserves the best parent award, there is no competition here, the other parents in this show need to step up their game because she is unmatched in her supportiveness. She's the best.

• This episode was a good time!! Despite no Rick, I maintained my composure anyway and had a lot of fun with these super silly number and letter characters XXDD • It’s such a simple and hack concept but it somehow stayed enjoyable to me because of these little puns, the twist of the S from an 8 to an ♾️ villian XXXDDD • And like all these sprinkles in here and there of adorable Morty moments, seeing those flashbacks which included the President as the Governor instead (LMAOO!! XXDDD), and especially Goldenfold.

• Why do I fucking love him so much? HAHA XXDD I’m happy he got screentime! He is so fucking weirdly charming and has so many randomly cute moments FHFHZH. BEEP BOOP BEEP BOOP- • DID YOU SEE WHEN (governor)CURTIS TOOK THE BABY POTATOES BACK FROM HIS PLATE. FHFHFBB I love the stupid absurdity XXDD

I think you're spot on, actually. Evan is really easy to underestimate but he's genuinely... not well when it comes to you. I think I mentioned it somewhere in an answer to an ask ages ago, but he actually has no issue with seriously hurting you for what he perceives to be "the greater good". That includes either taking a limb or shattering (and not properly mending) bone. Yes, he'll probably cry while he does it, will swear up and down that he hates doing this (and he does, he does) - but he has to do this. He's not the fun type of yandere. His little thing for you is kinda cute on the surface - until he has his first panic attack over you not answering your phone. (That is, if you two started dating 'the normal way'. Hah.) Personally, I think Micah is the worst out of the three, as well - simply because he has no issue with immediately resorting to violence. (And not with misguided motives like Evan, either.) Once he has you in a remote place and something isn't the way he wants it, I can actually see him getting physically abusive. We saw how he had no issue with shooting Maddy in Strawberry although she (probably) had hardly anything to do with that "unfinished business". I think running with Dutch kept him in check, reined him in. (He had to adhere to the rules of the gang, at least a little bit.) Another clue is Amos' letter to him - Amos being so scared for his family, his daughters, makes me think that Mister Bell is actually way worse than we've seen in the game. He already doesn't love you. You have your uses, yes, you're his - but fucking hell, you're a lot of fucking work, too. He has to keep you fed along with his brats and you're not even a pretty face to look at (to him. Now if we asked Arthur, that man would have married you immediately. But, as you know. Micah happened.) And maybe, that's the crux of this whole thing. There is no love here - there is with Evan and Bill. With them, if you were to completely give up one day, you'd have a (very controlled but) decent life, as far as the circumstances go. With Micah?
