No hay como sentir la magia! Ven a expandir tus alas! Winx! Las Winx si pueden lograrlo Es el poder de las hadas Vino en la luz de una estrella Y será solo para ellas Haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaarmoooooooooooniiiiiiiiiiiiiiix! Haaaaaaaaaaaaarmooooooooooooniiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiix~
Harmonix! Which I actually did before Believix but THERE IS AN ORDER, DAMNIT even if said order’ll be broken soon because I’m doing Butterflix but whatever. Onyrix won’t receive a redesign since I’m still pretty content with how it turned out, but I’ll adapt it to the new base at some point, just not right now. Also, Dia’s here now! In S7.5, she will also get Harmonix, and since I’m working on that right now, might as well draw her one too. (There’s a lot I need to post about both S7.5 and S8 soon but that’ll be later as well lol)
Design-wise I kept much of the same details as before, except now they have more metallic decorations and the trails are now scarves/capes. They have their Essence Dust bags/bottles, since Harmonix in the AU is meant to be an alternate route to Enchantix and all. Pretty proud of this batch, gotta say!

Since you think Owl House could have been better if they combined Amity and Hunter as the redemption teen with bad parent and Willow and Gus as Luz's first Hexside friend, do you think Amphibia also could be better off if they combined Sprig and Polly as Anne's frog sibling that's reckless (since Sprig's too static and Polly barely gets many focus episodes) and Sasha and Marcy as Anne's toxic and redeemed friend (since Marcy kinda got the short end of the stick in season 3)?
re: this meta of mine
'Static' characters aren't necessarily a bad thing so long as their interiority is explored (how they think and feel about a variety of things that are important to them). Because Anne's frog family is small, I know in depth what Polly and Sprig's personalities are like, how they behave, etc. They're part of the core cast and they always feel like it.
The main issue I have with TOH isn't that Gus and Willow aren't main characters, it's that they don't even feel like main side characters. I feel like I know more about Amity's twin siblings than I know about Luz's best friends. Which again, wouldn't be as Noticeable if they didn't put such an emphasis on Luz's main human world problem being that she had a hard time making friends.
Overall: TOH has a LOT of characters and, because it's always set in the same place, doesn't have a good justification for a lack of focus on them. Whereas in Amphibia, Anne and the Plantars travelling, and the girls are purposefully separated (narratively) and have to travel to reunite, so there's an in-universe reason they're not always having the opportunity to be around each other. For Luz, it's just because she didn't feel like shooting her best friends who live two streets over a text (for whatever reason).
Amphibia also can't combine Sasha and Marcy because those characters represent different themes and different complications in the girls' layered friendship. The main reason I posited combining Amity and Hunter is that they're basically the exact same character and character arc Theme Wise, just with differing personalities and stakes.
I also rarely post about Amphibia so idk why you thought I'd like... want to Improve it in this manner? Is it because they're 'sister shows'? But yeah Amphibia has the worldbuilding, pacing, and good distribution of its ensemble cast (Marcy was introduced later than both Anne and Sasha and ultimately was less effected by Amphibia, even if it was still really meaningful for her; she was never meant to have the same narrative weight) that TOH never quite managed for me, even in S1 and S2.
TLDR; if you're gonna 'merge' characters, you gotta make sure that would strengthen the themes they embody. TOH isn't a very thematic series in terms of like, Deeper meaning (what you see is what you get, and what you get is meaningful just not like, Drawing on much, if that makes any sense?) and that's okay. Amphibia just has significantly more to say theme wise, partially because it lets its main leads all be significantly more flawed as people.

guys after hunter managed to get rid of belos, he says “you dare stab me in the back, Caleb?!” that’s the SECOND time belos has called hunter Caleb
Hes become unable to differentiate between caleb and hunter. He created hunter to “bring back” his brother and have some form of post-portem control over him; he’s hopscoting between the stages of acceptance and serious denial. He knows he killed him for a righteous reason yet he treats him as if he’s alive at any opportunity he gets. He arguably never saw the grimwalkers as equals to Caleb yet kept trying to force them to be replacements. So once hunter left him WITH Caleb’s palisman, made for him by the person that for him turned his brother to the dark side, the two truly fused in his mind to become exactly one and the same. One could argue that the “Caleb!!” was meant to reference the reminder of flapjack but no it was directed at hunter; belos already saw Caleb standing before him, against him once more
And the actual question asked: you DARE stab me in the back? Hunter had long ago betrayed belos: if not forced to do it in hollow mind then absolutely in king’s tide. In hollow mind, Phillip is fully aware hunter did not want to leave but tries to kill him anyways, as he did the others, and in kings tide, seeing the unique factor in hunters betrayal, he begins to confuse the two and with it comes the same conviction that he can turn him back, even if possession is what it takes. The stabbing in the back, how belos killed his brother, is equal to hunter telling him he never wants to serve him again and he must be having flashbacks to Caleb telling him he wanted to stay on the boiling isles. But while hunter explicitly told him to fuck off, it’s doubtful caleb said something to that end. To the contrary, Caleb must have begged Philip to stay with him, like how hunter begged to stay with belos in hm. Both pleas were ignored and punished. So it takes hunter explicitly telling him what he wants to do with his future, carving palismen and leaving the emperors coven (which I’m sure is similar to what Caleb must have told his brother back then) for phillip to register a betrayal that equates to Caleb’s and that merits extreme measures.
And luz responding “you did it first”. Belos has no comeback to that. Again, he doesn’t give two fucks about anything he may be wrong about, and he’s aware there’s plenty. Furthermore, HOW does luz respond that. As far as I’m aware she and hunter, much less the others, have no way of knowing the wittebanes’ story, unless they were paying attention to the old portraits, which is the audience is informed of the backstory. They only enter the portraits having to do with belos’ deceit, none about his past. The rest of the time is dedicated to the grimwalker revelation and Caleb is only referred to as “him” (“you were the one that looked most like him”) and his name is first relevantly mentioned in kings tide. Hunter learned he is clone of someone through this research on grimwalkers and infers his original is someone close to Belos and therefore a witch hunter, which we know is not true. The first time the partial story is told to the characters is in the truck ride and everyone should have the same context and information to fill in the blanks and to be unaware of a brother in the situation. They know about belos, but not Caleb in anything but name. So either one of two things happened: luz heard the story and connected the brother in the legend to one of Phillip’s companions, the drawing in the journal, the person of which hunter is cloned and the name Caleb and, knowing belos was addressing hunter as is he was caleb, responded by saying he literally stabbed his brother in the back first OR took the “caleb” as referring to something else and meant he metaphorically stabbed hunter first by trying to kill him and pushing him away. or yknow both.
And I also wanna talk about the graveyard were the fight took place bc between the altar appearance and the sitio of the golden guard in the entrance arc, I’m betting so much it’s an unmarked grave to Caleb. Seeing as how the portal door was passed down though the clawthornes and ended up buried in their backyard, Caleb and Evelyn could have been the first to own it. Maybe Caleb had time to bury or hide it himself broke his brother came for him. The point is belos is just sick enough to go back before caleb was even dead and secretly build a grave to an idealized version of him in the human world, like some form of “the caleb I knew died already by not coming back with me”. the sigil then becomes not the symbol of the golden guard but the symbol of gravesfield turned into a brand that marks the golden guards, the grimwalkers of his brother, property of the human world, a tool to be used by belos to conquer witches in the name of humanity. Of course once caleb was dead, Phillip lost his access to go back and declare his death blamed on the witches, which he probably planned to do, instead looking for his own door and conquest of the boiling isles for himself. It doesn’t explain the stash of titans blood with an owl cap. Maybe Caleb put it there himself in case he was forcefully dragged out by Phillip and needed to go back, the hill was a significant place for them; Caleb buried his plan b there and Phillip unaware build the altar there.

Trouble at Hexside
With the day of unity coming closer and closer, it would appear as though emperor Belo’s is trying to tie up some loose ends before his plan can come to fruition. For year emperor Belos has not made any serious attempts to get the covenless citizens of the Boiling Isles to join a coven. Although many of these people were considered outlaws like Eda, they were always given the choice to join a coven if and whenever they decide to abandon their wild witch ways.  However, with time running out, it would appear as though Belo’s has now taken measures to scare people into joining a coven by telling them of the severe consequences which comes with aiding wild witches or choosing to remain as one. Edas former covenless ally Prim,  was convinced by the emperor that being a wild witch meant to celebrate pain and destruction and that aiding wild witches would inevitably bring upon her the wrath of the titan, leaving Eda and others like her to be looked as an outcast by everyone who once knew her.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
However, despite his successful attempts to get the citizens to join the covens, there was always one group of citizens he had to be more cautious about, who am I talking about?...why...its the younger generations of course!, despite the younger generation of witches knowing fully well they would one day need to join a coven once they had decided on what track best fits their interest, they alone always had the advantage of not rushing into this choice. Unlike many of their parents, it was always the students who were not treated like criminals for being covenless, why? because they were still young, many of them still needed time to think about what coven to join, but sadly, if emperor Belos ever wishes to fulfill his plan on the day of unity, then that time can no longer be afforded, meaning all the students of Hexside, all the children of the Boiling Isles, must join a coven before the day of unity arrives!
But forcing the kids of the Boiling Isles to join a coven, no matter how young they may be, will not be an easy task to accomplish, after all, scaring the adults into joining covens is one thing, but trying to do the same to the kids without drawing suspicion will not be accomplished so easily without making the kids of Hexside realize that something is terribly wrong. In the upcoming episode, “Labrynth runners”, we are told the emperors coven will arrive to Hexside, now, Despite the emperors coven arriving to Hexside proving to be a suspicion of itself towards the students, there is one other reason why the emperors coven may have arrived to Hexside, and unfortunately.... it isn't the least bit better.
In “Hunting Palisman”, we discover that emperor Belos uses Palisman as part of his self treatment to keep his curse under control... by absorbing the life force of the palismans. However, Hunter reveals something to the emperor which he does not enjoy hearing...the castle has run out of palisman, and palistom tree has been over harvested, meaning they  can not produce more palisman for the emperor! The emperor has always taken the palisman of the castles new recruits, but just as Darius had revealed to hunter in “Any sport is a storm”, they have more than enough recruits already, but if so then this would mean those recruits have already been stripped of their palisman, meaning emperor Belo is desperate for more palisman. As for where he can easily obtain some, well, isn’t it obvious?....its the schools!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
If the emperors coven were to not only arrive to Hexside to have the children join covens, but to also strip them of their palismans to give to the emperor by being told that by adopting wild palisman from the Bat Queen (in Hunting palisom”), they had unintentionally accepted forbidden wild magic into their lives and must be rid of them or be considered criminals to the emperor and the titan. This alone may leave Willow, Amity and Gus realizing that the emperors coven is a threat to them and the school.
Tumblr media
 Now, whether or not Luz informed them of discovering the emperors true nature, if she informed them about the day of unity or if Luz will be at school during this episode, still remains unknown, but knowing fully well that Luz needs help to stop the emperor and the day of unity and warn the citizens , then the only people she has left to trust are the friends she made at Hexside, but if the students of Hexside realize that they must defy the emperors coven then the first obstacle they must face is figuring out how to escape the emperors coven once they arrived to the school, but how? unless...what if Gus gave us an answer to this.,
According to “Labrynth runners” description, Gus will receive aid from an unlikely ally. This unlikely ally is obviously Hunter given we have yet to see him after the events of “Hollow mind”. As for why Hunter would be at Hexside of all places?, well, it could be any number of reasons, but the fact of the matter is, Hunter now knows Belos is evil and the day of unity is a day of doom for all witches in the Boiling Isles. If what we theorize is true and if the emperors coven has arrived to Hexside to make the children join covens and make them give up their palsmans for the emperor, then Gus may need to work with Hunter, Willow, and Amity in order to help the other students of Hexside avoid this terrible fate, but how?!, unless...considering it  was Gus who helped the emerald entrails escape from Darius ship in “Any sport is a storm”,  by creating an illusion that fooled even coven head leader Darius, then Gus may be the only person who can provide the necessary advantage to helping the others escape from the emperors coven!, but how? will Gus use his illusions to trick the emperors coven by making them believe something that is never truly there? or will Gus create one giant illusion over the school just like he did with Bria in “through the looking glass ruins”, one so big and so complex that even the coven head leader of illusions cant help but feel shocked?.... honestly who’s to say.
Tumblr media
Although this does beg the question...whats going to happen to Gus and the others kids who have already joined a coven? we have seen the kind of power Belos holds over those who already bare a coven mark, but if Gus and the others are ever going to help Luz fight the emperor then...is their a way to remove the mark and free them from Belos control? I guess we will have to wait and see, for now, its just a theory, an Owl house theory!

Today’s redraw is Hunter and Luz from “Thanks to Them”
Please click the “keep reading” button before liking and/or reblogging
I meant to make another toh redraw from the latest episode weeks ago, but life (and depression) got in the way as usual. Also, I have been doing a lot of writing lately which you can check out on my “leeann art” tag!
I really loved this scene between Luz and Hunter, and was glad I came across this screenshot! This was my first time drawing Hunter, so I struggled drawing him more than I did with Luz. But somehow I got it done. I’m not as happy with it as my previous redraw. But at least I tried and had some fun!
This is probably my last redraw before the new year, and I also probably won’t get around to coloring my last two redraws either. But I might try to get it done before I start my new job next month. Keyword is might.
If you liked this redraw, then please like and/or reblog my post! You can check out my other (better and worse) drawings at my “leeann art” tag or search through the owl house tags.
If you have Instagram, please follow my art/redraw account: leeannredraws
Very Important Note: Please do not tag my fanart with any of the Luz and Hunter ship tags. I do not ship them, and I will feel uncomfortable if a shipper liked and/or reblogged my fanart. Thanks for understanding.

teleport anon, I meant that hunting palismen was only time he did multiple teleports in a row with the artificial staff. Hunter does it constantly with Flapjack, with shorter time between than what was in hp, but with a much smaller range on an individual teleport. and yes! he's so smart! it didn't even take him a minute after first time using Flapjack with a "these staffs are weird" to go to fighting with a lot of teleporting! and using other spells too! (magic missile and if I remember correctly an earth control one?) while desperate and in a really bad mental state (it looked like he wasn't hundred percent there during that fight)
besides flying, witch staffs seem to mostly be to increase size of spell circle to make stronger spells, but they also add some power to the witch just by being held, and have enough magic to be used for simple or less energy consuming spells even without a witch's magic bile sack, tho probably usually not enough on their own for more complex or ones needing a lot of power, which teleportation seems to be.
magic needs to be pulled from somewhere, and palismen are a more concentrated source of it than the background magic field the glyphs usually use. Luz's magic in Clouds on the Horizon looked different from when she usually does plant magic, there was glowing green circles outside the glyphs, maybe just having an unawakened palisman on her made her magic stronger?
Wouldn't surprise me! One of the anons theorized that palistrom trees grow (or at least originally grew) from veins of titan's blood, making the wood especially magical. Like you said, there are SOME things you can do with a palisman staff even without magic, like, Luz could use Eda's to fly. Interesting thought on it usually just making bigger spell circles, maybe if Luz draws and activates a glyph on the ground with her palisman staff it'll be stronger? Or like you said, her glyphs seem to be getting an extra boost just from her little egg being near her.

𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐌𝐚𝐠𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐥 𝐀𝐝𝐯𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐞𝐬 𝐨𝐟 𝐋𝐮𝐳 𝐍𝐨𝐜𝐞𝐝𝐚
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
summary: When Luz Noceda gets her Hogwarts acceptance letter in the mail, she was over the moon. Little did she know that a Hogwarts acceptance letter meant more than just the chance to learn magic.
pairings: luz noceda x amity blight, hunter x willow park, and eda clawthorne x raine whispers
type: ongoing story, updated 1.8.24
warnings: none
a/n: been twirling this idea around in my head for awhile, finally decided to write it.
Tumblr media
Luz Noceda had no idea that her day was about to brighten and her life was going to change. The walk home from her mom’s place of work was like every other; filled with trees and quaint looking houses. The summer air was fresh and for once the sky wasn’t just bright blue, but partially covered with clouds. Luz knew her house was near when she saw the familiar sidewalk chalk scribblings her neighbour’s had made of unicorns and dragons flying through the air. She approved of the colourful palette and crazy style used by the nine year old artists. Luz would give anything for her life to be filled with adventure, colour, and chaos.
Arriving home, Luz propped her bike against the front porch and opened the door, being careful not to step on the mail that had been dropped through the slot on the house door. Running upstairs to put her satchel and jacket down, she came back down to place the mail on the kitchen counter for her mom. Luz wouldn’t have taken any interest in the mail if it wasn’t for the fact that she spotted her name in the stack of envelopes and brochures. Her name was written in a beautiful cursive with forest green coloured ink.
The letter was in a cream coloured envelope, closed by a crimson wax seal. Luz spent at least three minutes tracing the crest that had been stamped into the wax in wonder. Finally deciding to break the seal, she pulled out the letter and almost collapsed.
Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry
Headmaster: Hieronymus Bump (Order of Merlin, First Class, Grand Sorc., Chf. Warlock, Supreme Mugwump, International Confed. of Wizards)
Dear Luz Noceda,
We are pleased to inform you that you have been accepted at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Please find enclosed a list of all necessary books and equipment. Term begins on September 1. We await your owl by no later than July 31.
Yours sincerely,
Eda Clawthorne Deputy Headmistress
Luz had no words, what kind of main character event was this? Was she going to be the next chosen one? The next hero burdened with glorious purpose? It was all unclear, but she knew at the very least she needed to figure out what Hogwarts was and who this ultra-powerful Principal Bump guy could be. Her brain was already five steps ahead of her, forgetting about the fact that the letter could have been a fluke or a sales tactic.
She went straight to the best source for all research topics that were oddly specific: Wikipedia. The article for Hogwarts was long, which Luz considered to be a good thing. It meant more information and possible lore.
After scrolling, drawing, and pondering for a while, Luz had a scribbled guide and a bike route mapped. A quick note was scribbled on the back of a coupon booklet that read:
Be home by dinner, I went out on a bike ride. Love you mami!
Finally arriving at the place Wikipedia had described as “a run-down bar named The Leaky Cauldron”, Luz locked her bike against a light post and ventured inside of the place that looked like it hadn’t been cleaned in years.
Stepping into the pub was an experience Luz could have lived without. It smelled strongly of alcohol with an undertone of damp dust. It was bustling with people in robes that looked to be decades old. Luz scanned the room with determination to find someone who looked remotely in charge. Finally settling on approaching the old man sitting by the bar who looked like he had potential to be wise.
“I need directions to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry please!” Luz stated, proudly holding up her acceptance letter to the school.
The old man looked at her quizzically, then laughed a breathless laugh. He was balled and hunched over in a chair, as if he was barely holding on to life. He pointed to a man with a soft face sitting at a table across the room and yelled to him.
“Longbottom! Show the muggle-born to Diagon Alley!” The man, known as Longbottom, whipped his head around, nearly falling out of his chair.
He got up and said something to the white haired lady sitting across from him before making his way over to Luz. He bore a “Hi, my name is:” name tag on top of his knitted sweater. Luz read that his first name was Neville,
“Are you a real wizard? Can you do magic? Do you have a wand?” Luz bombarded him with questions the second he was close enough to hear her.
“I-yes, my wand is uhm,” he he held up the stick-like object and showed it to Luz “I was never one for flashy spells though. Always was better with plants.”
Luz looked in amazement at the wand that was held out in front of her. Her eyes flicking up to his, she nearly jumped when she said.
“Show me where I need to go to get one of those!”
Neville spoke to her as he lead her to the back of The Leaky Cauldron. He told her about where they were going, how it was full of magical stores. Instructing her to pull out her list of items attached to her letter.
“So we aren’t going to Hogwarts?” Luz asked, her voice taking on a bit of disappointment.
“You won’t ride the train to Hogwarts until September 1st. Right now, I’m taking you to Diagon Alley.” Neville replied, tapping a series of bricks with his wand.
Luz squealed with excitement as she saw the bricks magically unfold. The pitch of the squeal causing the man to briefly place his hand over his ears. She ran past him into the bustling street and stopped to take it all in.
Shops lining the street with intriguing names like 2nd Hand Brooms and Madam Malkin's Robes for All Occasions. Each of there’s signs hanging having a different shape and colour. At the end of the alley there loomed a large building with a statue of a dragon sitting atop of it. Luz let her mind wonder if anyone had ever climbed on top of the building and sat on the dragon?
“Luz! Over here!” Mr. Longbottom called, waving her forward.
The next few hours could only be described as pure bliss for Luz. Trading her muggle money for nice wizard coins, trying on robes that made her feel like a true witch, and picking out the right quill in which she would be doing all her writing with.
Luz was completely mesmerised with her wand. The multicoloured, eight inch stick with a phoenix feather core was now her most prized possession. Ollivander, the ancient wand shop keeper, had handed it to her with a warning. Telling her to not get her hopes up since phoenix feather wands are picky about their owners.
She followed the instructions the shopkeeper gave her for casting a simple illumination spell. The light that came from the end of the wand could only be described as radiant. Luz swore she couldn’t see for a split second afterward. Seemingly from Ollivander’s expression, he hadn’t been expecting that.
“Did I do something wrong?” Luz asked nervously.
She didn’t know what the right wand was supposed to feel like. She did know, however, that she wanted all her magic to feel like what it just felt like: natural. She was delighted when the white-haired man looked at her and spoke in a knowledgeable tone.
“The wand chooses the wizard Ms. Noceda. That one has chosen you.”
Luz almost combusted out of excitement right then. Putting the wand back in its box and giving Ollivander the appropriate amount of money, Luz strides out of the shop with the largest smile on her face.
“So what kind of wand ended up choosing you?” Neville asked as he walked with her back down Diagon Alley.
“I think the wand maker said it was made of Phoenix feather?” Luz recalled
“I knew a kid in my day with a wand like that. He was quite the hero.” Neville commented
Luz’s stomach made a sound that could only be compared to a roll of thunder. Thinking back on her day, she remembered she hadn’t eaten since the late breakfast of cinnamon waffles she had with her mom. Luz had a funny way of forgetting to eat when she became hyper focused or busy.
After Neville heard this he offered to take her to the best ice cream shop the wizarding world has to offer. Of course Luz delightfully obliged. Feeling her mouth water as they entered into the shop with tables and chairs scattered throughout the place.
Sitting down, she felt her phone buzz in her pocket. She almost declined the call before she realised it was her mother, then quickly answered it. Greeting her mother, hoping her mom wouldn’t sense the bit of nervousness in her voice. Her mom talked for about a minute or two about how she would be running late and wouldn’t be home until around 7:00. Telling Luz to not wait if she wanted to make dinner for herself and giving a swift goodbye.
Holding the phone to her ear for just a second longer before her mother hung up, Luz locked eyes with someone. That someone being a green haired girl who looked around Luz’s age with enchanting golden eyes. The eye contact was brief however, as a woman that resembled the girl stormed out of the shop. Luz assumed the beautiful girl was her daughter as she scurried off after her.
Placing her phone back into her pocket, she took the ice cream Mr. Longbottom had bought her. It was pink with chunks of what looked like strawberry in it. Tasting it, Luz decided she never wanted to eat any other ice cream again. Even wizard ice cream was delicious! Much better than the ice cream that her mother always bought from the market. It was creamy and sweet with the perfect amount of strawberry flavour.
She spoke with Neville for a bit about his life and what Howard’s was like. He told her he taught Herbology at the school and was looking forward to seeing her around the castle. Telling her to keep her eager and curious spirit. He offered to introduce her to the divination teacher, who happened to be his wife. Luz liked her name, Luna Lovegood, it had a nice ring to it. She asked question after question until she observed the sun starting to set, realising it was time for her to head home.
Bidding Neville a goodbye and a thank you Luz set off back home with all her wizarding gear.As she unchained her bike from the lamppost outside of The Leaky Cauldron, she was happy her mom had her put a backer on it for grocery runs. It made carrying all of her home things much easier.
The evening air was crisp as Luz rode home, blowing her dark brown hair from her face. The time was 6:04 last she checked, which meant she was pushing it with getting home and putting her stuff away before her mom arrived. If wasn’t that Luz didn’t intend to tell her mom….it was just that she wanted to do it without a pile of unconventional school supplies in her arms.
Arriving home, Luz propped her bike against the front porch of her home, carrying all of her things in her arms. She could barely unlock the door without dropping anything. Closing the door with her foot, Luz raced to her room, shoving all of her things in the back of her closet. Making sure to not break a single thing and leave the books at the front of the pile so she could grab them later. September 1st was going to be an interesting day when it eventually came.

VORE DAY DUDES
Tumblr media
Actually managed to get something done by today last minute!! I'm going to bed soonish (at like... 11pm xD Soonish in my book)
Now because I'm bad at remembering to post more than one place, people who aren't in the discord server get a 2 for 1! :O ADHD can be good for something /lh
Tumblr media
Also gotta give a thanks to my crispy crackling boy @flapjack-hunter for helping out with ideas! (also if you didn't follow him after my post I have a knife >:( /j)
The first piece (the one I drew for today) was just a small prompt and initially I wanted to do something a little different, still thanks owed to the cat dad XD
The second was me doing some art for a borrower AU of his! If you are following him, you may have seen his post about that!
Here... First of all, Amity isn't afraid of having been eaten; she's mostly nervous about how she's going to be sitting up against people other than Luz (headcanon she isn't fond of physical touch unless it's Luz)
The pred is Hunter and Willow is soon to be eaten too, which is why Amity is still focusing on the stomach rather than Gus or Luz.
Also I now have really cute thought in mind that Luz helps Amity's selective touch aversion by switching places with her and holding her gently to help her calm down.
Also also; in Jax's AU this thing was Luz's idea as a way to hide away from the noises of a thunderstorm.
And here with my drawing, Luz is saying something like "I'm sorry, Amity, I didn't think about how crowded it would feel." While Gus is about to comment on how she didn't think about that.
But that was all from me for now!
I hope you liked the art and bye!!

I have a weird tendancy to hate characters or at least have a hard time getting attached solely for their mouth designs. Whenever I look at them I grow so angry that it becomes one of the reasons why I won't watch it and that even if I did watch it and liked it one of the reasons why I will not like the character
Lilo ? Her mouth so big it looks like a omatone. That zoo human in that human eoo episode of Steven Universe very familiar with Greg ? I LOATHE cat mouths on people so I already disliked him even if he were nice. Luz ? One of the reasons why I didn't watch the Owl House (and later on whenever I see clips or gifs I am not interested at all either and even annoyed) is because I fucking hate her upper lip it looks like Stonetoss drew her, as well as how other characters' mouths are drawn in general (Eda and that green haired bitch ? Smug "3" and I told you what I think of cat mouths. Raine ? Their mouth so pointy and downward I can't understand how people find them cute. Nimona ? One of the reasons why I didn't watch it is how she always has a "I just farted" cat/smug mouth and when doesn't a mouth full of Tumblr sharp teeth on that makes me want to ragequit. Séléné ? (You may not know her she is from French comics De Cape et de Crocs) in almost all panels she is in she always has an ":o" expression because she is constantly shocked and surprised and because her lips are plump it looks like an anus to me and I never could stand her as a kid for that (also why Dolores from Encanto angers me just looking at her always with her :o mouth and her lips are so red it looks like a swollen anus most of the time). The Hatbox Ghost in the HM movie ? A reason why I backed off from going seeing it is that he is so ugly his mouth is too, he looks like a chimp mixed with an early 2000's Dr Seuss character (which are fun movies but AWFUL TO LOOK AT) with too big teeth it's uncanny WHY COULDN'T THEY MAKE HIM MORE LIKE THE ANIMATRONIC ITSELF?! Holga from Atlantis the Lost Empire ? Everybody found her hot and I almost did then she ALWAYS had that constipated mouth on with her mouth doinf a 90° angle and teeth always gritted, it's not sexy she suffers from hemmoroids. The whole cast of Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs ? I watched it JUST once because I couldn't stand any of the mouth-related expressions either too big or too small or literally forming an 0 which had little me cringe hard. A reason why even before all the controversies and shit story telling of HH and HB I didn't watch to watch the pilots ? Because too big Tumblr sexymen fanged mouths, too many mouths that open the whole face when smiling and too many imps making me imagine them with Stitch's (another character I like ONLY when his mouth is closed, his teeth and omatone shape always made me uneasy) voice and noises. The human-like characters in the Hotel Transylvania franchise ? They are fun with nice cartoony mouths most of the time but whenever they have a tiny cartoony mouth with semi realistic CGI texture OOF good those are temporary. Most Miraculous Ladybug male characters when they are not meant to be attractive ? Either they have super wide thin mouths making them look like Muppets or on the contrary have eeny tiny mouths that are plump so it looks dispropportionate and when they smile it's once again a 3. In fact realistic/semirealistic lip textures on CGI cartoony-looking characters always miffed me I always wondered why bothering with THAT detail while other characters like Mario male characters are fine without it, it's so uncanny ! So much I even used to hate lips as a little kid, I would often pinch my lips to the mirror (you know, the contrary of ducklips), find what I daw great, and wonder why it couldn't be the standard for anyone thinking it looked awful on everybody before growing used to it growing up but really I still will react badly to it in drawings (I wonder why. There is to be psychology but what ?!)
Characters mouths if they don't fit very weirdly specific standards I have fill me with rage and will ruin my fun and I DO know it is very personal and not a real flaw to a movie or comic, but I for one know I just physically can't

Dipper's Journal Entry: Hexside Day One
Today has been very eventful. I'm not sure what I was expecting, but it definitely wasn't this.
When we first went through the portal, we ended up back on top of the Knee. It turns out, all of the Boiling Isles are built on the bones of a Titan. I still don't see how the little bone-headed dog-thing could grow to be that big, but hey, there are actual flying broomsticks staffs here, so what do I know?
Anyways, Luz and Amity, the two we met on our first visit to the Boiling Isles, were there to pick us up again. Mabel jumped to get on Luz's staff, I'm not sure if she likes Luz or if she's trying to get me to like Amity? From what I can tell, they're a couple, so maybe Mabel just wants to be Luz's friend? I really don't know anymore.
Moving on. We got to Hexside and Hilda, Marcy, and Kamala were already at the school waiting for us. After we dismounted, Danny showed up through a portal. He mentioned something about traffic in a ghost zone... I'm going to need to look into that a bit more.
Luz led us inside where we met a new witch, Gus, because Amity had to go to class. We all said our names, where we're from, and a fun fact about ourselves. I just said that Mabel was my twin sister. I have so many better facts about myself that I could've used! Ugh. Well, it turns out that the Marcy kid knows some talking frogs? I'll also be asking about that at some point.
Danny and Kamala are both definitely older than the rest of us by a year or two, but it seems like no one here is very amazed or scared by the magic and stuff. For me and Mabel and I, we dealt with the dream nightmare demon, Danny seems like he has ghost powers, and Marcy and the frog people, but I don't really know about Hilda or Kamala. Mabel, Marcy, and Danny were the only ones that talked, but even they didn't say much.
We were given a tour of the school and shown where most of our classes would be, but Luz and Gus mentioned that we're going to be in "special" classes for our glyph learning, which is an elective class for most witches. They didn't use the word special, but I know that's what they meant.
I am curious as to how the glyphs work. Can you draw them on/with anything? How do they channel magic? Where is their magic from? How many different glyphs will we learn? Of course, I didn't ask any questions. Not yet. I'm still trying to figure out how the social body works at Hexside and within the HEXkids before I get myself in too deep.
Finally, once the tour ended, we were taken to a stage and all of the Hexside students stared at us while Principal Bump told them all our names and welcomed us or something. Everyone says it was only ten minutes, but it felt like at least an hour or two. I froze up and Mabel had to help me get off of the stage. Once I could actually control myself, I bolted through the nearest door and went looking for a bathroom or at least a place to hide.
All I found was that the school is a literal maze, so I opted for a random hiding place instead. There weren't very many good ones, and I was still looking when the class bell rang. I freaked out and jumped into the nearest supply closet and tried to catch my breath.
It wasn't a normal-sized closet, at least by Earth standards. It seemed like it was for something much bigger, some sort of night creature that works as the school janitor would be my guess. Before I could figure out much more, I noticed that someone else was in the closet with me. I could hear breathing and found eyes staring at me from the floor.
Just then, the final bell rang. After the sounds of late students' running footsteps in the hall cleared out, I apologized for taking their hiding place and started towards the door. Instead of saying goodbye, though, she told me I could stay.
Other than this morning, during introductions, that was the first time I had heard them talk. I couldn't say no, so I sat down and she moved more into the dim light. There wasn't much else to do, so we started talking. It turned out that it was Hilda, and they managed to find this spot before I even let the auditorium. We started by talking about how we were both hiding from the stage and the giant crowd of unruly adolescents, but it moved to talking about our homes and families and how we got to Hexside.
Apparently, where Hilda's from, the Boiling Isles are known as "demon territory" and everyone that lives there is cursed. Honestly, I wouldn't be surprised, but it can't be as bad as the second dimension where Bill used to live Ford was for a while.
AW, COME ON KID, ADMIT IT, YOU MISSED ME!
/\ \ / 👁️ \ / / >< \ I I
Oh no.
This is not good.
I need to find out what dimension this really is. Ford said we should be safe here, but we're not safe anywhere if he's still around.
RIGHT YOU ARE, PINE TREE. I'LL SEE YOU SOON!
I guess that's enough for today. It might be enough for any day.

I got around this watching the series finale today. I didn’t feel like watching it as soon as the official Disney Channel YouTube channel posted the episode. It was overcome with a lot of feels and I wanted to spend my Easter eating candy and watching funny feel good easter specials. It felt overwhelming enough watching some of the tidbits with a belly full of sweets. Anyway for the amount we got, I thought the last episode was grand.
My only real gripe about it was the complete absence of Caleb and his witch wife Evelyn. Their love story set in motion of Belos and his grip on the Boiling Isles. No flashback, no discovery by our main characters and no one who was there to tell their story to our heroes. I want to see confirmation of Evelyn being a Clawthorne ancestor. Hopefully Disney will grant the show some supplementary tie-in books to grant us the information not provided by the show like they did with Amphibia with Marcy’s journal.
Anyway I got some theories right and wrong about the finale. I was right that Luz would be granted a temporary power-up. That form of her looks awesome and I can’t wait for the cosplay.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I was also right Luz would have her obligatory “sorry my sacrifice means you’ll lose me” scene albeit with an actual death. I at least got it right that the Titan themself would be the one to revive Luz. Though Luz died before her power up which I didn’t expect. The ones who witnessed her death was Belos, The Collector, King and Eda. The rest merely felt her death with the glowing lights. Thankfully it was only Eda and King since right after they went absolutely feral on Belos. The rest of her friends and family wouldn’t have survived had they known and just charged at Belos without thinking. Still I hope Luz showed off her form either in drawings or her memory pictures.
Tumblr media
The Titan was not what I expected when they appeared. Looked more like a dad lounging for the weekend rather then a god of grand elegance. Though the confirmation of being bigender does explain how he laid that egg by himself. The Titan did eventually became more godlike after sending Luz back though.
Tumblr media
As it turns out he did feel bad that he chose to lock the Collector away. I can only imagine what it was like for his soul to be trapped in the InBetween dimension and being alive enough to feel the pain. At least he had the comfort of knowing King was being treated well and being loved by his found family. It’s sad though that he couldn’t relay his first and last dad joke to King in person. The Titan being dead dead meant the glyphs that Luz took the entire series to learn stopped working. Which means she can no longer “speak to him” so to speak.
It was nice to see everyone reunite with their families for real and see Hunter realize he’s had family in the Boiling Isles all along. Especially when Camilla outright accepts Eda and King as family.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
It was great that The Collector was reformed thanks to Eda, King and Luz’s friendship. The millennium years old child was able to learn empathy for the first time and through his efforts everyone on the Boiling Isles was spared. Too bad The Collector had to go so soon. But considering the most of the Boiling Isles had suffered their playtime, it was for the best that he keeps his distance. Though they get to have The Owl House to visit every time they need a break from being in the stars. With Francois keeping them company in the meantime.
With the Titan now in a different position most of the landscape in Bonesborough has shifted which means having to rebuild everything from scratch. Though the environment and surrounding nature was revived thanks to Luz’s Titan magic.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Eda and Lilith are still cursed but from the looks of it they made peace. It hasn’t hindered their lives and only flourished now that Belos is no more.
Tumblr media
The prediction I was definitely wrong on was the fact that Luz needed King’s blood to make a new portal door. Turns out The Collector gave them a new portal door for them to use. Though I was glad that the theory that Luz doesn’t have to leave the Boiling Isles behind turned out to be true!
You know with the fact that Luz spoke to the Titan personally and was blessed with his magic, it did make me wonder if during the timeskip Luz was revered as the “chosen one” like she’s alway wished to be? I mean the citizens of the Boiling Isles had to have someone to follow with Belos gone and their homeland shifted. She probably was their ruler temporarily but she needed to get back to her own life back on earth and only took charge of the rebuilding and left the rest to the more experienced adults.
Tumblr media
I’m overall glad to see everyone get their redemptions/happily ever afters after everything. This was my say on the series finale.

I just had the craziest dream(s) (you know when you have two dreams at once? Yeah)
So the first one was some weird squid game esq thing that I knew was a book and I was reading a book but the dream was the part where you hallucinate the book. Anyways Luz (TOH), for some reason, was the MC? Vee was there to I think??? But anyway it [the dream] mainly focused on these 2ish scenes. The first one was them (Luz, the maybe Vee, and there were others too like a bunch. Wait I think King was there. Idk there was a gremlin) swimming through this pool and then into a tunnel (that's important later) but for some reason Luz had to make fun of this baby turtle (which looked like an eel but I knew it was a turtle??) To go through the tunnel. Anyway once everyone is through the tunnel (oh and this is like later in the "book" for some reason? Like other stuff happened) they end up in this room with this giant turtle monster and then epic fight scene. Then the turtle says something like "You'll pay for what you said that day!" And everyone is confused they just met the guy until Vee realizes that this turtle monster is the same turtle Luz was mean to so quantum stuff happens (beacuse this turtle is centuries old) and they all turn into cartoons bones but then Vee says something to unbone them and they go back through the tunnel and are nice to the turtle and when they go back the turtle monster is nice to them so they escape (that room).
Yeah.
Aaaaanyways next dream! Okay so same setting but it's me instead and I know it's from a book I read (see previous dream). I'm not in the turtle part I'm like at the beginning getting to know people. This one's more mellow but some kids do try to escape and get shot down by like taser turrets. Idk we couldnt see and we didnt have like anything on us to be shocked by so we hypothesied. The sleeping arrangements were oddly comfy for a concrete ditch. And I saw these two kids I'm sorta friends with who I just realized keep appearing in my dreams as "the one random irl person you know that's just a bg character". Weird. Oh and they [people running the game thingy] went around and asked everyone where this weird toy thing should go and everyone said bottom which we all just knew meant bottom cubby.
So yeah. Uh. My dreams get weird. I want to like draw some of these scenes.

They Took the Stars Chapter 5: They Don’t Care About You
Whumptober 2023 Day 2: “They Don’t Care About You.”
AO3 | Previous Chapter | Next Chapter
Story Summary:
No one could see the stars anymore. In the metropolis of the Boiling Isles, smoke and smog filled the skies. Acid rain fell to the ground. Towering buildings and neon lights went as far as the eye could see. But every light has a shadow, and the shadows of the Emperor and his Council were very dark indeed…. Luz Noceda used to love her homeland, but she had long-since realized that people were not always what they seemed, and Emperor Belos was no exception. Between herself, Eda, and Raine, surely they would be able to do some good for the city. Right?
Pairings: Romantic Raeda, Familial Eda x Luz
Word Count: 1,237
CONTENT WARNINGS: ARGUING
A/N: Chapter Theme Song: Devil Doesn’t Bargain by Alec Benjamin
Holy shit. This was supposed to be five hundred words.
Anyway, I had some fun with this chapter. I was also going to post Chapter 6 tonight, but I no longer trust myself to stay awake long enough.
~~~
“Why do you even bother?”
Eda set her elbows on the table and clasped her hands together, interlacing her fingers. She and her sister were seated in the back corner of a nondescript Middle Level restaurant—not exactly a place where anyone would expect to find a government leader and the most wanted criminal in the city having a clandestine lunch meeting. Of course, Eda herself was careful enough to wear one of her stolen ID bracelets—a wristband embedded with a fake Identity chip, meant to hide the lack of such a chip beneath her own skin. Not that anyone who recognized Lilith—which was most people—would question her guests. Eda still half-expected their waiter to run away screaming.
Her nonalcoholic Apple Blood was sweet and crispy on her tongue as she continued, pointedly ignoring the glare Lilith was throwing her way. “You work all day. You work all night. Fine. You’re a workaholic. You want a miserable and unhealthy lifestyle? You do you.” She tapped a finger on the table and narrowed her eyes. “But having eyebags bigger than the city chasms is where I draw the line. If I didn’t know any better, I’d assume our monthly lunches were the longest breaks you took!”
For a split second, Lilith broke eye contact. The brief shame that flitted across her face gave Eda all the answers she needed.
“Seriously, Lily?”
“How is your ward—you daughter?” Lilith asked instead, her tone neutral. “And that little dog of yours?”
Eda rolled her eyes but reluctantly accepted the change of topic. “Eh. You know the brats.” She paused briefly and reconsidered. “Actually—I guess not. You’ve only met Luz…four times? In the four years she’s been living with me?” That sounded about right. “Anyway, she’s a good kid. Follows her own heart, stands up for her beliefs and her friends, gets into a whole ton of shit you would disapprove of.” Eda snorted. “You know. Fun stuff. And King is still a little monster—nothing new there.”
“And that charming AI of yours?”
“Yeah, no—I want it on record that your weird friendship with Hooty scares me.” Eda shivered. She was not sure whether to be more concerned that her homemade AI was weirdly close with Lilith, or that Lilith had no friends outside of said AI. Both possibilities were deeply upsetting on a number of levels.
But at least Lilith had some semblance of joy in her otherwise sad life. Eda could put up with their friendship for her sake.
Luckily, their waiter arrived and delivered their food as quickly as possible before scurrying away, and Eda laughed at his retreating form. It never ceased to amaze her how quickly the sight of Lilith could send grown-ass adults running.
“So…” she said as soon as he was out of earshot. “How’s work?”
Right on cue, Lilith groaned. “Eda—”
“Yeah, yeah, I know our deal.” She cut her off with the dismissive wave of her hand. “You don’t have to give me the ‘confidentiality matters’ speech again. I just wanna hear the gossip!” She wiggled her eyebrows suggestively. “What’s the latest drama?”
After a brief pause of consideration, Lilith shrugged and relaxed slightly. “Nothing has changed. The Golden Guard is still as annoying as ever.” Despite probably trying to keep her tone neutral, contempt bled into her voice. Eda tried not to snicker. “And Kikimora is her usual self.”
“So…annoying and rotten to the core?”
“Precisely.”
At this, Eda really did snicker. It was almost amusing to hear her sister rant about her coworkers like a normal person—even if said coworkers were the most powerful government officials in the city. The Golden Guard was the Third in Command of the Emperor—inferior to only Lilith and the Emperor himself. Kikimora was the Deputy Head of glorious Sector Ten—the Imperial Sector.
And if the stories from Lilith were any indication, both of them were annoying pieces of shit.
“Why does Belos even keep her around?” Eda asked in amusement, leaning back in her seat.
Lilith shrugged, suddenly looked more weary than anyone in their mid-thirties should be. “The Emperor works in mysterious ways.” She took a sip of her coffee. Eda fought the urge to snatch the cup from her hands and replace it with something else—ideally something without an excessive amount of caffeine. And that was coming from her of all people. “Although if it was up to me, I would have chosen someone actually competent as my Deputy Head.”
Oh?
Lilith expressing distaste for her job? That was a first.
Eda scoffed. “Belos didn’t take your feelings into account when he appointed Kiki? Shocker.” In an ideal world, he would allow Lilith to choose her own Deputy Head, just as the Heads of the other nine sectors were allowed to do.
But in an ideal world, Belos would not be in the picture to begin with.
“I—the Emperor knows what is best for these situations!” Lilith immediately insisted, flushing bright red as though caught doing something awful. “I was not—I would never question his judgment—”
“Because that would be such a big deal,” Eda grumbled.
A beat.
“What’s that supposed to mean?”
Eda was hit with the sudden realization that Lilith was genuinely upset by the issue, and she once again found herself regretful. Maybe poking the sleep-deprived bear was not a good idea. “Just—”
Oh, what the hell.
Maybe Lilith would be receptive to the conversation. After all, they had just been talking about her frustrations with work.
Clearing her throat, Eda intentionally softened her tone and tried to speak with as little venom as possible. “I know you’ve always wanted to work for the Imperial Sector,” she began slowly. The words were like sawdust in her mouth. “And it really is amazing to see how far you’ve come! But…Lilith, being in that damn cult makes you so fucking unhappy. You’re constantly overworked and burned out—when was the last time you even enjoyed your job?”
Eda spoke as quickly as she could, trying to make her point clear before Lilith shut down. Unfortunately, Lilith was already averting her eyes. “Edalyn—”
“No, Lily!” Now that Eda had started, she was unable to stop. She could not handle seeing Lilith in such a state, progressively spiraling into misery and having no one at her side. “Don’t you get it? Belos doesn’t have your best interests in mind! He doesn’t have anyone’s best interests in mind!”
At the mention of the Emperor, Lilith visibly stiffened. “You have no idea what you’re talking about,” she hissed, her voice low. She was starting to look more like the feisty sister Eda had grown up with, and Eda felt a pang of something in her chest.
“Damn it—he doesn’t care about you, Lilith!”
There. She said it.
Lilith stared at her with wide eyes.
Her heart cracked just a little more. Eda watched Lilith process her words and bristle, coiled as tightly as a snake about to strike. Blood boiled in her veins—she almost wanted to see Lilith fight back, if only as proof that there was still some life inside of her.
But as quickly as it appeared, it was gone.
“You have no idea what you’re talking about,” Lilith murmured. She lowered her gaze, her voice suspiciously hollow.
Eda felt her own hopes shatter, resignation cold and heavy in her chest. Not again.
“Right. Yeah. Of course.”
The rest of their lunch was spent in silence.
~~~
A/N: Did this turn out as well as I hoped? Or has the sleep deprivation bled into the writing?
Fun fact: coffee is apparantly a fruit seed soup! This is something I learned while working on this chapter.

I find it interesting how Luz’s actions have caused a LOT of trouble and embarrassment for Amity in the past. First taking her Top Student badge away, causing Amity to make a fool of herself in public... Getting her outed as an unknowing cheater at the Covention, the diary incident, stealing her training wand and getting the twins captured by the Slitherbeast... Amity losing her job (tho that was mostly her own fault too), making Amity think Luz was embarrassed by the idea of them being together, and now this whole incident with the Bonesborough Brawl being interrupted, the championship taken from her.
And it’s fascinating, because Luz HAS screwed up, a lot; But for all the grief she’s done Amity, it’s never been intentional nor really HER fault (even if she unknowingly contributed), and not only does she make up for it but... Amity understands WHY Luz did it, that it’s an honest accident and she’s not the malicious person one might assume, and most notably, Luz has done so much good for Amity as well! As Emira put it, Amity straight-up wasn’t happy before Luz, Luz is the reason she’s self-actualized and feels comfortable with who she is, healed and recovered, made connections and defeated her parents! Luz is why Amity was able to choose what SHE wanted for her life and realize what that was!
Obviously this says a lot of Amity’s saintly patience, it’d be easy to associate Luz with bad luck even if she’s acknowledged as not culpable; But also how Luz no doubt thinks of herself as a mess-up who causes problems for others, which is why she’s so insistent on helping people and keeping her own issues a solo concern; That, and the trauma of loneliness, RSD, not wanting to be a burden. That last one really hits home given it was the explicit theme of the Season 2 premiere, because Luz doesn’t want to cause trouble for her mother Camila by being herself, and she doesn’t want to cause trouble for her friends!
It’s really compelling then, that in her attempts to overcorrect and compensate, Luz paradoxically causes problems; Either immediately or eventually, due to her lack of self-care bleeding out into her relationships with others. It’s why Eda and Raine broke up after all, you can’t hide what you’re going through, or else your partner doesn’t actually know you! Luz is just so apologetic of who she is and that just worsens her issues instead of fixing them, because she needs to love herself before she can love others; And we see firsthand how a lack of self-care can mess with loved ones and people.
It also adds to their relationship; Relationships aren’t perfect. There are ups and downs, mistakes. Sure most of these mistakes were from before Luz and Amity became girlfriends, but still. Relationships take work, they take collaboration and apology, and forgiveness. You do the wrong thing, but what matters is that you try and actually attempt to make up for that. And after what we’ve seen, I think this will likely be the last time Luz causes a problem for Amity over a lack of communication; Because a lack of communication was also the reason for conflict between them.
Amity misunderstanding Luz as more malicious than she actually was, and not realizing her perspective (nor acknowledging how people like Hermonculus and Lilith were the actual problems here, not Luz). The girls taking accountability for their own mistakes, such as Amity with her harsh feelings and assumptions, her associations of Luz with trouble and harm, healthily drawing the line where Luz’s actual culpability is (Luz can’t predict every consequence that happens even if her mistake was necessary in causing them); Luz trying to be more upfront about what she meant, responsible and fix damage even if it isn’t her fault, because she’s just compassionate like that anyhow.
That ability to listen and understand Luz makes Amity able to forgive and grant her those multiple chances. And likewise, Luz has always been willing to hear Amity out from the start, you can see her guilt when Amity loses her mind over her lost star, her concern when she asks what happened to Amity at the end of her debut episode, where she was an antagonist! Luz is someone who has always wanted to know the real Amity Blight, and that’s given Amity the chance to be seen... And have her mistakes be understood, such as Amity’s general prickliness, her elitism, and the incident with Willow.
It’s just a lot that these two girls go through a lot with each other. But they forgive each other, they understand each other, even as the other apologizes and makes up for what happened. And I LOVE LOVE how Luz acknowledges that her grief over her father, while valid, doesn’t excuse how she lied to Amity. How the show validates the weight of her pain with Amity asking if Luz lied, showing it’s serious and she’s not silly for taking it that way. And Luz is hurting just as Eda was with the curse, but that’s no excuse to take it out on your loved ones, they have a right to know and Luz learns and acknowledges it!
Luz just really DOES have such an issue with denial, with repression and downplaying herself. Trying to be accommodating, thinking her problems aren’t that big a deal; After all, if Vee did just fine in the human world, clearly the issue was with Luz! And how Luz just blames herself for causing problems, which has her RSD exaggerate how people react to what she’s done, hence her misremembering Camila’s wish at the end of Yesterday’s Lie as so much harsher than it actually was. And Luz CAN be frustrating, but instead of letting that confirmation resign her to despair, Luz actually confronts the issue instead of wallowing in self-pity. She fixes her mistakes, and she’s finally learning to forgive herself over them to focus on the right thing, on reparations and healing, including for herself. Luz gets her act together.
These two girlfriends, they’re just going through it, they bring their baggage and issues to the relationship and it’s not all sunshine and rainbows; But they do get past it. Because they’re in a relationship and support each other, and take that relationship seriously. It’s such a healthy example and representation, it’s insane. And it really shows how having these other people in your life can and SHOULD be fulfilling! Luz is Trying and so is Amity. And tellingly, she never lords how she helped Amity over her GF, Luz never brags that she’s done so much for Amity nor implies that her girlfriend owes her. Which means Amity is free to take issue with things as she rightfully deserves. There’s just so much respect and trust, imperfections yet growth, this relationship and their struggles are so frank and real. Love is HARD but they’re getting through it, no matter what; Because it’s a choice and they’ve chosen, after finally being given the freedom to do so!
(But yeah I need content, canon or otherwise, of Luz just smothering Amity with love and care to make up for all of the embarrassment and pain she’s caused. Giving her compliments and supporting Amity, making her feel better and trying to make up for her shortcomings as a girlfriend, after Amity has done so much for her! But of course Amity would counter that Luz has already done everything for her, she’ll always remember things like her faith in Luz paying off in Eclipse Lake.)

Jason frowned, opening and closing the door to the old house. The other kids had run to get more supplies, leaving just he and Luz at the house, looking for traces of magic that weren’t there “Run me through why it has to be here?”
Luz pinned a poster of the portal door up on the wall. “It’s always been here. If any spot is going to make a portal, it’s going to be this one.”
“Is it place-based? You said the old door used titan’s blood, so surely—”
“Well it’s my only lead,” Luz burst out.
Jason shut the door with a quiet click. “Luz?”
She rubbed her arms. “I had all of these notes, back in the demon realm, and I had access to materials that I just don’t have here. This is my only connection to ANY kind of magic! I don’t know anything about trying to build a portal from this side, Phillip’s journal—” She cut off, glaring at the ground.
A chill ran down Jason’s spine. “Phillip’s journal?” he echoed, “You had…”
“I should have realized. I mean, the British accent in the journal, the oozing admiration for the isles that matched Belos at that stupid parade, the fact that Belos even knew the portal existed and wanted it in the first place—”
“Whoa—Luz, it was just a journal, it had information you needed, there was no WAY you could have known that a journal from four hundred years ago belonged to the current emperor. Unless…” she’d been awfully cagey last night about the Collector… “Luz, did the journal say… how he met the Collector?”
Luz’s eyes darted around the house. “Haha, whaaaaat?”
Well, that all but confirmed it. “It just seems like… the kind of help Uncle would have used to build his portal. Luz, if you went looking for the collector to help you build your portal I—”
The door handle turned, and Luz pushed past him on the way to meet the rest of her friends. “HEY! You’re back, awesome!”
I understand, Jason finished in his head. Uncle Belos must have had contact with the Collector for CENTURIES, based on Steven’s sigil experience. Even if Luz had gone looking, it wasn’t like she’d been the one to free them, it had been that other kid, King. And if she had gone looking, then so what? She couldn’t have known what the Collector was capable of.
I’d free an eldritch deity myself if it meant I could get back home right now.
Well. Probably not actually.
But still.
Flapjack fluttered from Hunter’s shoulder to the ground, pecking at the floorboards. Willow, Gus, and Amity all plopped down on the floor, drawing faces on pieces of paper. Gus offered a piece of paper to Jason. “We’re drawing our families. Do you… want to draw Phoenix?”
Jason took the piece of paper, but shook his head, turning it over and over in his hands. “I don’t think my family will all fit.”
Luz wordlessly handed him a bigger piece, like the one she’d drawn the portal door on. Jason gave in and sat down, pencil tapping on the page.
An eyepatch
A hand missing a few fingers
A poof of unruly hair that somehow managed to store things
Constantly dirty, a patient smile.
Jason sketched face after face, his fingers trembling on the pencil. He offered a pencil to Hunter. “Do… they’re your family, too.”
Hunter took the pencil, but he didn’t sit down next to Jason. “Not the way they’re yours. I don’t… I didn’t know them. Except Phoenix, I guess.”
Jason pointed to one of the figures. “That one’s Cherry. He’s the second oldest, but he’s been there so much longer than Phoenix that he’s kind of more like the oldest.” He sketched another face. “This is Auric. He got really into healing, he doesn’t have magic, of course, but he’s pretty good at medicine, and stitches and stuff.”
He continued to show Hunter each of them, acutely aware of Luz, Willow, Gus, and Amity watching over his shoulder. A blossom of warmth sparked in the hollow pit as he talked, pointing out each of his family members and saying a little bit about each of them.
“Which one’s that?” Luz asked, pointing to the final person, the one with the patient smile and face smudged with dirt.
Jason’s stomach dropped. “Mole,” he said quietly, fidgeting with the corner of the paper, “He’s… my best friend. He likes to garden, and he’s a great listener. Even though he never says anything, he always knows how to make you feel better. I… before I left, I promised him I’d be back soon.” Jason got up, pinning the paper to the board under everyone else’s picture. “And I will be. We are going to build this portal, and we are going to see all of these people again.” He nudged the picture Amity had drawn. “That’s your sister? The healer?”
“Emira,” she answered with a smile, “Do you think she and Auric would get along?”
“I bet my dad would like Silver,” Gus piped up, “He likes dumb jokes, they always make him laugh.”
“I’d like to meet Mole,” Willow chimed in.
“He’d love to show you the garden,” Jason confirmed, “And he will. Because we’re getting home.”
Luz nodded. “So let’s start brainstorming. We don’t have any titan’s blood, what are our other options?”
Gus tugged out a golden earring set with a blue stone. “I picked this up from Greye. He called it a magic amplifier, and based on the way he was obsessed with finding galderstones, I’m guessing the stone is a piece of one. They amplify magic, do you think we could use it to make a portal?”
Willow snapped her fingers. “Hunter, your teleportation. It moves you from one place to another, how does that work?”
“I—you know, it’s always been something I’ve just done. But it’s sort of like bending one place to another? Folding two points next to each other, eliminating the space in between. If it was that easy to go between dimensions, though, someone probably would have done it by now.”
“What about with the galderstone?” Amity suggested, “It amplifies magic, it might make your palisman magic strong enough
Jason frowned. “Would he be able to take us with him, though? What if he gets stuck in the demon realm and can’t get back?”
“If I can get there that way, I can probably get back. I could find some titan’s blood, maybe? I could get titan’s blood and come back and we could build a portal. Or, you know, I could try to build one on this side.”
“Would you be able to get titan’s blood?” Amity interjected, “There wasn’t exactly a lot of it lying around when we were there last.”
“King,” Luz said softly, “King’s a titan. I…”
“King is a WHAT?!” Willow yelped.
Jason dropped his pencil.
That demon kid was a TITAN?!
“Yeah—Yeah, King is a titan. If Hunter found him… I mean, obviously don’t be like draining his blood or whatever, but—”
Jason shook his head. “Absolutely not, last we saw King, he was with the Collector. You want Hunter to go on a solo rescue mission against that?”
“I could get Phoenix, too,” Hunter suggested quietly.
Jason whirled around to face him. “Do you think I don’t want you doing it just because I don’t have personal stakes?! Hunter, he killed Uncle Belos with a flick of his finger, do you have any idea what he could do to you?!”
Hunter took a step back, eying him, and Jason realized that his fists were clenched. He took a deep breath, relaxing his muscles. “Sorry. I’m sorry. I’m just… the Collector is powerful, and I’m nervous about you going without any way to contact us. We’ll get them back, both of them. But we’ll do it together. Not by sending you into the slitherbeast’s den alone. Is there anywhere else we might be able to find titan’s blood?”
“I don’t know if there is an anywhere else on the isles anymore,” Gus said gloomily, and everyone went quiet.
Hunter took the earring from Gus, holding out his hand for Flapjack. “Look, I’ll just try it. I’ll come right back if I CAN do it, and then if I can’t, no big deal.”
Before Jason could say anything else, he disappeared in a flash of gold
Only to reappear in the same spot. He shook his head, then disappeared again. Reappeared.
Hunter handed the earring back to Gus with a sigh. “I guess it was a long shot anyw—”
There was a scratching, a banging, and then a creature burst out of the wall, tearing through their picture of the portal door. It had a long, snakelike tail, and a terrifying snout of sharp teeth, a pink tongue lolling out of its mouth. It hissed, and Jason scrambled out of its way as it bolted across the floor, chased by a chirping Flapjack.
“What is that?!”
“’Possum,” Luz said casually.
“Those are urban legend!” Hunter protested.
“So are time pools,” Jason reminded him, “Yet, here I am!”
A wince from Luz.
What is up with her and the time pools?
Luz tapped her chin. “I think we might have been onto something with the palisman. Even without it being Hunter’s teleportation, palisman have a lot of magic, right?”
Jason flinched.
That’s for sure.
Hunter’s hand went up to his palisman. “What are you suggesting?”
“We could find a way to harness their magic, I bet. We just… have to figure it out. Back to the drawing board.”
“Mija?” Camila poked her head in, wrinkling her nose at the hole in the wall, and stepping gingerly around the nails sticking out of the floor and walls. “What happened?”
“Possum.”
“Ah. Please, please, please be careful about the animals, I don’t think your friends have had rabies shots. Hey, I was thinking we could get you guys some new clothes today?”
Luz glanced back at the busted diagram. Amity took her hand. “We’re not going to figure it out in one day,” she said quietly, “And we could probably use a change of clothes.”
Luz nodded, and they all marched back after Camila, who clicked a button on a set of keys.
The metal carriage in the driveway beeped and clicked back.
Gus yelped, clinging to Willow, who bravely put herself in front of he and Hunter. Jason snatched up a stick, gingerly poking at the carriage. It didn’t respond, didn’t growl, or give any other indication that it was alive.
Vee put her hand on Jason’s, pushing the stick down. “Okay. This is a car. We’re going to take a ride in it. It isn’t alive, but it does move on its own, without anything pulling it.”
“I got a magazine full of pictures of them once,” Gus said almost reverently, coming out from behind Willow to gingerly lay a palm on the ‘car’s shiny surface, “I thought they were just statues!”
“How does it move if it’s not alive?” Willow asked skeptically, “Is it like the blimps back home? But I don’t see any boiler, and you made it respond to your clicker!”
Jason tapped his index fingers together. “Novus made these wind-up toys that were full of gears that made them move. Is it like that?”
“Uh… sort of like both of those things?” Camila tried, “It’s… it’s a lot of machinery, and fuel, and… it’s not dangerous, not if you’re a safe driver, I promise.
Vee opened the side of the ‘car,’ and after looking at each other, they all climbed in, squeezing into the seats. Camila put one of her keys into a little panel and turned it.
The car rumbled under Jason, not entirely unlike sitting on a purring griffin, and Camila slowly backed out of the driveway.
And then they took off. It didn’t feel like they were going fast at all until Jason looked out the side window and saw the side of the road passing them in a blur. He gripped the seatbelt, knuckles pale, until they came to a stop in a huge stretch of black pavement, divided into little boxes by white lines.
“How far did we go?!”
“I don’t know, a few miles?”
“That fast?! It was only a few minutes!” Jason paced around the outside of the car. The face of it was warm to the touch now. “How do you work?” he murmured under his breath.
“Hey, Camila!” A man waved, putting one hand behind his head sheepishly. “Uh, seems my car battery is dead, any chance…”
“Again, Dave?”
“I’m going to get it checked out, I swear, I probably need a new battery, I know. I’ll drive straight to the nearest auto shop, I promise.”
Camila shook her head. “Alright, you guys run inside and start looking, I’ll be along in a moment.”
Jason hung around, watching as Camila drove her car closer to Dave’s, which was cold and still. Camila pulled a lever in her car, and part of the car popped, startling him. Camila opened up the car, exposing a mess of wiring and metal. Jason poked his head under.
“Whoa. Hey what does—” He smacked his head on the lid of the car as he pulled his head out. “—ow—what does all of that do?!”
“Uhh… I mean, I don’t know about the exact mechanics of everything in there, mostly it makes the wheels turn.” Camila dug a couple of long cords out of her trunk, red and black. “Here we go.”
Jason stuck his head back in to watch her. “What are you doing?”
“I’m going to transfer a little bit of electricity from my car to his.”
“Won’t that kill our car?”
“No, no. It’s not an exact… I’m just sort of giving his car battery a little kick to get it going. Like shaking it awake. It’s not going to hurt our car at all, and the battery charges as we drive anyway.”
“What are the cords for?”
“They’re called jumper cables, and they transfer the electricity.” Camila clipped the red clamp to Dave’s car, then to hers. “Red goes on positive, black goes on negative.”
“…What?”
“Right, uh, so, this box looking thing? It’s a battery. One side is positive and the other is negative. The cables are very specifically designed. Red goes to the positive side, black goes to the negative side.” She clipped the black cable to her battery, then to Dave’s. “Jason, could you turn the key in the ignition for me?”
Jason hopped back into the car, gingerly wrapping his hand around the key and turning it. The car hummed under his touch.
I did it!
Dave’s car coughed and came back to life, and Camila gave Jason a thumbs-up. He turned the key back the other way, and the car turned off. Camila undid the jumper cables, and Dave drove off with a wave and a thank you. Jason turned the key again.
On.
Off.
On.
Off.
Camila poked her head in. “Oh, just pull the key out once the car’s off.”
Jason removed the key with a frown, peering at the, what had Camila called it, the “ignition?” “How does the key make it work?”
Maybe if we can figure out how THIS works, we’ll be able to figure out how the portal key worked to power the door!
“Uh… it just sort of… does… It just starts the engine…”
“How come we could start his car with ours? They’re not the same kind of car.”
“I mean, the batteries are similar, it’s all electricity. Hang on, here.” Camila opened a hatch in the passenger seat and handed him a little book.
Owner’s manual.
“I think there might be a few books on circuitry and engines back at the house, Luz’s dad was… If you’re interested in machinery, I might be able to help you get started.”
Jason followed her into the big building nearby, reading the manual for the car. It wasn’t anything like the human realm books he’d read before about adventures and heroes, it was more like Sam’s heavy books on the theory of wild magic and glyphs. Still, it almost seemed impossible.
Anyone could learn how to use this.
He’d been able to turn on the car with no training, easy as that. And he was willing to bet that all of the strange metal boxes in the Noceda house would be equally easy to use. Nothing like the magic he’d never been able to make work.
Makes sense. They don’t have magic to use here, they had to come up with another way.
What would it have been like, to grow up in a place without magic?
The door hissed open in front of him of its own accord, and he jumped. Camila put a hand on his arm. “Just an automatic door. It’s safe.”
Jason eyed it.
Door.
Doorway.
Electricity used to open a door.
Palisman energy opens a door?
“I need to know how it works,” he announced.
Camila laughed. “Okay, ask Luz to show you how to use the internet later. For now, let’s just focus on getting you some clothes without rips all through them.”
The kids already had armfuls of clothes, and were popping in and out of the changing room by the time Camila and Jason found them. Hunter kicked the door opened dressed head to toe in some kind of bird costume, and a laugh burst out of Jason’s throat.
“What is that?!”
Hunter sniffed, tilting his face up and away. “High fashion.”
Jason tugged on the hood of it, pulling it over his face. “Awwww, you look like your palisman. It’s cute.”
Luz nudged Jason’s shoulder. “Come on, let’s find something for you. I’m sure we can rustle up a matching bird onsie.”
Jason shook his head, but followed her. “Hey, Luz?”
“Yeah?”
“About what we were talking about earlier—”
“Oh, look, here, I bet this’ll fit!” She dumped a couple of pairs of pants in his arms.
“Luz. Hey.”
She shifted from one foot to the other. “Yeah?”
“What’s going on with you? What’s wrong?”
“You mean other than the fact that my friends are all trapped away from their home, I left King with that thing, and I don’t even know if Eda’s okay?”
Jason winced. “Yeah. Besides that.”
“Nothing. Nothing at all, why would you ask that?” Her voice rose in pitch as she spoke until it was a squeak.
Very convincing.
Jason sighed, picking up a couple of solid-colored shirts. “Luz. Look. You’re… kind of a horrible liar.”
“Hey!”
“That’s not a—Luz, I just… you’re a bad liar, and the fact that you’re being so dodgy about this is… whatever it is you’re hiding, my brain is probably making up much worse scenarios trying to explain why you would be avoiding the topic like this. So please, please. Just tell me what’s going on. I can’t help if I don’t know what the problem is.”
Luz sighed, the fight falling out of her in a whoosh of breath. “Hunter and I… when we were in Belos’ mind…”
Jason couldn’t quite describe how he knew, he never could describe the shifts in people’s tones and moods and demeanor that clued him in to where he stood, but Luz’s whole being seemed to change. Her resignation shifted to cunning and slyness. Not necessarily in a malicious way, he thought, but he knew that the next words out of her mouth weren’t going to be the truth. She would hide whatever was bothering her from him for as long as she could manage.
“I should have done a better job warning King about the Collector. I knew they were dangerous, and if I had warned him, then maybe… maybe we wouldn’t be in this situation.”
Even though he knew it wasn’t the whole truth, something about it rang right. She was upset about something about the Collector being her fault. It just wasn’t that in particular. Jason nudged her shoulder.
“I mean, we’d all be dead if it weren’t for the Collector. I don’t think I can emphasize enough that Uncle Belos would have killed us all, and the whole isles with us.” Jason sighed. “It’s not… great… that he’s out. I’m worried about everyone at home, and I know you are, too. I wish that we’d never ended up in this situation, I wish Uncle Belos had never found them. But King did what he could in the moment to save us, and… that has to count for something, right?”
Luz shrugged. “Does it?”
Jason nodded, picking up a jacket. It was checkered in black and red, with a grey hood made of another material. There was so much variety in this store, and so many identical versions of the same thing that simply changed a size. He quickly discarded a skirt on discovering that it had no pockets, but picked up a vest made from wooly, warm material.
“I mean, look. I would way prefer if Belos had never hurt anyone in my family. Of course I would prefer that! But… if he hadn’t, I never would have met any of them. I wouldn’t have Mole, or Mom, or Dad if Belos had been… good. So, I… I don’t know. I’m not saying I should thank him for what happened, but… I can recognize that some good came out of all the bad that happened.”
“Is it worth the good? Really, Jason? If someone’s done something so bad, so horrible and ruined so many lives through their actions, even if they believed they were doing the right thing, is it worth whatever tiny piece of good they might have achieved along the way?”
Ohhhhhhhh we are not talking about Uncle Belos anymore.
Jason hissed out. “Ah… I mean, it doesn’t really matter, does it? Whether it was ‘worth’ the good things, I mean. Measuring actions in how much good or bad they do isn’t always the best option, especially after it’s done, justifying everything you do, justifying your existence is… it’s a slippery slope. At the end of the day, the bad thing happened, and we can’t change that. You can’t ignore that a bad thing happened, but you can also find good things in it that… they don’t fix what happened. They never do. But they can make the bad thing just a little easier to bear.”
Luz stared at him blankly, and Jason rolled a hand. “A… a bit ago, Phoenix kind of accidentally caused our dad to fall off of the roof. And I told him… I mean, it happened, and he couldn’t change that. There wasn’t a lot he could do in the moment, either, sure, maybe there were some things he could do that would have changed the outcome, but overall… it just kind of happened. What he did after was the important thing, yeah? What he did to help fix his mistake and help Dad was the thing that mattered. Bad things happen, sometimes we do bad things, whether accidentally or not. And we can’t take them back. The best thing we can do is… try to make up afterwards and try to do better in the future.”
Luz ‘hmph’ed. “And if Belos showed up today and apologized for everything and really wanted to make up for everything he’d done, would you forgive him?”
Jason’s gut clenched.
You always were my favorite of all the Grimwalkers.
Jason twisted the fabric of a shirt in his hands. “I don’t know. I don’t know, I don’t…” He set down the pile of clothes, putting the heels of his hands over his eyes. “Rrrgh.”
Focus. This is about her, not Belos. It doesn’t matter how you feel about him, treat it like we’re talking about her directly and not through this weird metaphor.
What would Dad say?
Jason put his hands back down. “I don’t know, Luz, I really don’t. But even if I didn’t forgive him, I mean, on his side, would it matter? On his side, he’d just need to make up for what he did. I don’t know if he ever could. But if he did, it doesn’t MATTER if I’ve forgiven him. That’s on me. That’s about my feelings. What would be important for… Belos… is that he do what’s necessary to fix what he’s done. Whether I forgive him afterwards or not.”
“Mm.” Luz picked up his pile of clothes. “Thanks, Jason. That… helps.”
Did it help enough?
“Yeah. Anytime. And if you need to talk to me about how… King… let the Collector out… Just let me know?”
She gave him a long look, searching his face. And for a second, Jason thought she understood. For a second, he thought she was about to tell him what was really eating her. But then she just nodded, and turned away.
“Yeah. Okay.”
