#which of course isn't the vibe i want to cultivate

Have you read svsss bc the hilarious take of “I’m not gay this man is simply the most beautiful this is an objective fact” seems present in both kdj and sy. To me. Idk these are my current obsessions and I can’t stop drawing connections between them and trying to get other ppl to like them. Like how I want an orv/Hades game xover based purely on vibes and the fact that I consumed them at the same time
HOW DID YOU KNOW? I, like, never talk about it but I am definitely like low-key obsessed with scum villain. Like I have the first volume in print and read fic about it allllllll the time I've read SO much fic by SO many authors it's kind of concerning. The AO3 scene is so talented and diverse... And exactly as you said I love the comedy a lot. I read it after ORV so if you read my fic and see the way I do KDJ that's me pre-reading scum villain going like "wow it would be funny if there was a book fixating on this aspect of KDJ where he is desperately loving and in love with this guy he thinks is objectively the best person in the world but he will never ever let him know on pain of death" and then some time in the interim of 4.2 and 4.3 when I was kind of switched from creating mode to consuming mode I read sv and was like 😲 hello???
I really like how sv and ORV both are really analytically subversive of the tropes of their particular genres while still ultimately fulfilling the promises they make to the reader. Of course I do think that ORV fulfills more of those promises and is very purposeful about that, but that's why I like reading SV fic more, bc I like to see what issues people had with it and what they took away from it and what they would want to change... Like SV is sooo messy and funny but obvi it's got a lot of stuff that makes you go "... Ummm?????" so seeing other people have those same reactions is comforting.
It's totally the opposite for me when it comes to ORV fic I have to admit tho! I usually only read ORV fic by my friends nowadays bc I just don't have a lot of fun in the Ao3 tag. It's one of those media properties that I have a lot of specific, positive interpretations of, so I'm not as generous in my readings of fic about it I think 😅. I was pretty much just looking for stuff that was basically letting me reread the original work, so when I felt like the author changed some idea or character motivation I would always think 😤😤😤 that isn't right!!! They don't know them like I do! What about such and such scene or such and such character motivation from such and such chapter of ORV, don't they remember??? Which totally isn't fair to the authors bc obvi they're just playing with ORV and fixating on specific tropes and themes just like I am... That's just what's the sign to me to "start writing fic" instead of just "keep reading more fic."
Anyway that's why I don't talk about SV a lot, but I'm actually really into xianxia as a genre right now because of it. I've been hyperfixating on traditional Chinese medicine for a while now (in the vein of reading research articles about neuroscience behind acupuncture theory and translations of resuscitation methods from the six dynasties period) so that interest has ultimately culminated in me working on an original comic project that might never see the light of day. Basically just one where a guy gets put into a female xianxia protagonist's body in a het romance novel so he has to Speedrun being trans lol. He's like a neuroscientist tho so his main thing becomes trying to prove the germ theory of disease while the plot happens around him. Bc the only thing I'm constantly thinking to myself while reading xianxia is "... How would that work? Like. Scientifically." Which shows how lame I am lol... THIS guy wants soft magic rules to be HARD magic rules... Also like there are a lot of problems faced in modern NS research that being able to manipulate qi would really help with on like a microscopic cellular level... Problem is that cultivators & microscopes don't coexist...
OK I shouldn't describe more of that unless it's over DM (☉_☉.)
Anyway thanks a lot for your question! The other thing you mention- that xover sounds really funny, especially with the pre-existing OT3 dynamics I think it'd be good for Yoo-Han-Kim. The funny thing would be reconciling ORV's cannon portrayal of Hades and Persephone as like fun adoptive parents with Hades the game's stellar "they are divorced and estranged and their son has to die a lot fixing them" take. Honestly it's not really a dynamic I'm super attached to from ORV cannon because while I totally understand its place as like wish fulfillment for KDJ'S self insert (himself) I just find it less compelling than other relationships, especially the one he has with his mom. Would Love YJH God of Death or HSY Fury moment like yeah sounds good to me... Who would be HSY's sisters then? Maybe other versions of herself lol... JHW would make a good fury hmmm.... What about the Olympians would they just be regular? Obvi the main themes would be KDJ relationship w/ parents and how YHK helps him with that which honestly could have Vibes but you'd have to shape all the character placements around that.
OK SORRY, LONG POST (☉_☉;;) THANKS FOR YOUR ASK!

About that TMNT Re-Boot ...
Tumblr media
Over the past couple of months, IDW has announced a variety of new TMNT comics coming to shelves this year. Here's a quick and dirty breakdown of the ones I want to talk about.
TMNT The Flag-Ship book Soft-Reboot - Ongoing by Jason Aaron
TMNT: Nightwatcher - Ongoing by Juni Ba
TMNT: Mutant Nation - Ongoing by Tom Waltz and Sophie Campbell
Other stuff was announced, but I really want to focus on the in-canon stories. The IDW line has been chugging along since 2011 and it contains some of the best portrayals of many TMNT characters and possibly the strongest Turtles story ever. When Jason Aaron's reboot was announced as a soft reboot incorporated into the existing story, it was both exciting and troubling.
He's a big name (or so I'm told), so giving him an already-established world in which to play, doesn't seem ideal. For example, he's continuing a story with a dead Splinter and a post-good guy Shredder redemption arc. Krang is dead, Chrell is dead, Rat King is 'dead', Bishop is dead, and most of the TMNT rogues gallery is not in a soft-reboot-friendly place.
Of course, the world of comics always finds a way to resurrect or retcon characters when needed, but is Jason Aaron willing to jump through the hoops needed to make an unlikely character return digestible, or will we get a "somehow Palpatine returned" situation? I love the IDW continuity and I'm excited it persists; I just hope the creative team properly respects the tales that came before it.
IDW's tactic here feels like a grand "let's meet in the middle" compromise. I don't know the numbers, but the way I understand it, IDW was happy with the sales performance of the Sophie Campbell Mutant Town/Reborn Era stuff. That's evidenced by them immediately signing her up as a writer on Mutant Nation. Many older fans either didn't like her run or felt alienated by it. Despite issues 101-150 being polarizing, apparently, someone has been buying them.
It looks like IDW sees this new 3-Ongoings setup as a way to keep the success of the current run by shifting those readers over to Mutant Nation and pitching Jason Aaron's reboot as a way to ensnare new and older readers. This has the potential to be a real 'have your cake and eat it too' situation.
Tumblr media
The only wild card I see here is the Nightwatcher book and depending on who the Nightwatcher is, it could serve very different purposes. IDW is publically keeping the identity of the vigilante Turtle (whose non-canonical origin was 2007's TMNT film) a secret. Fans have 2 prevailing theories, Nightwatcher is Jennika the '5th Turtle' mutated in the books of the original IDW ongoing book, and Nightwatcher is Future Raph a mysterious Raphael who debuted in the 2023 Annual.
Of course, we must mention that it could be any of the four original turtles, but they'll likely be too busy in Aaron's reboot to pull double duty. Vigilantism doesn't seem to be Venus' vibe, but she is a turtle, so she can't be disqualified. Then there is always a chance that Nightwatcher is a Slash clone or a simplified Metalhead, but both are heavy long shots at best.
From Jason Aaron's mouth, we know IDW has 'big plans' for Jennika, and she will not be part of the core team in the reboot. That leaves 3 options I see for Jenni's character:
She gets de-mutated. - Previews for issue 149 suggest that through QNA and Armagon, de-mutation is possible in the IDW universe. (I'd say this outcome is unlikely because of the energy they've put into cultivating her as the '5th turtle'. After spending 5 years building Jenni's audience, it doesn't make sense to turn her human again.)
She is the Nightwatcher - We've already seen her take the role of a peace officer in Mutant Town, so her throwing on a suit of armor and becoming BatTurtle isn't too far-fetched. (With Jenni being the lead in the Nightwatcher book, she would bring her own audience and backstory to an otherwise mostly blank slate of a character. It's not a bad call.)
She is the lead character in Mutant Nation - We know Jenni can lead a book, and we know Campbell and Waltz are comfortable writing for her. (The various creative teams could tell countless stories of Jennika fighting for mutant-kind in-universe and never have her interact with the Core-4, outside of carefully timed event series.)
Tumblr media
As cool as Future Raph would be as the Nightwatcher, they would need to do a lot to earn whatever story they tell. Basing a brand new ongoing on a mostly unexplained character seems riskier than most of IDW's typical tactics. If Future Raph does end up being the Nightwatcher that leaves options 1 and 3 on the table for Jenni's character. One point in favor of him being the Nightwatcher is that he was recently introduced and his story was left WIDE-OPEN. Obviously, the writers want to do something with him.
I'm about 50/50 right now on who I think the Nightwatcher is between Jennika and Future Raph. Assuming the character stays in NYC, I guess it just depends on which of the two Jason Aaron wants his rebooted TMNT to interact with the most.
As for Mutant Nation, there is a laundry list of characters that could lead the book. Everyone from Alopex to Leatherhead to Bebop and Rocksteady to Venus. My money is on a Mutanimal-like team of freedom fighters. This means Sally, Hob, Mondo, Herman, Ray and others from that team will likely play a big part in the story. With Campbell involved, the various townsfolk of Mutant Town will definitely show up, but the bigger question comes from the de-mutation reveal in the preview for issue 149.
Tumblr media
With a huge population of mutants not wanting to be mutants and there being a way to become human again, does this become a central plot point of Mutant Nation? What will become of Lita (Pictured Above)? She was supposed to become a Timestress with Renet. Does her de-mutation change that? Is it permanent? So many unanswered questions and so much still to announce.
It has been a long time since the future of TMNT comics was this exciting and as the kids say, 'I'm here for it'.

I made Eric in Bitmoji -_- first draft anyway.
I did this mostly because I wanted to get some sort of base idea for myself what Eric's fashion sense is, and...I had an unusually hard time coming up with anything that felt like what Eric would wear.
I'd say part of that is my own difficulty pinning down what exactly Eric is like (does he dress like a tightwad nerd or what) as well as the fact that like...I see him as going through a pretty big identity crisis over the course of events of Andromeda as he starts to realize his old personality and the way he does things isn't working out so great. And him dyeing his hair red is part of/the beginning of that identity crisis. (I really should pin down when exactly he does that)
I also feel like Eric doesn't smile much so I needed to have all bitmojis that weren't in order to properly capture his vibe.
Eric is partial to wearing greys, white and black; in game I've recently given him khaki clothes that match the maverick armor set (tailored for infiltrators), and I think that's his idea of giving his wardrobe some color. Keeps clothes neat and tidy, partial to long sleeves even in warm weather. Clothes fit well, neither tight nor baggy. I don't think he has a real cultivated sense of fashion and it's all just a little spartan, which is fine, but I can easily imagine there coming a day when Eric is in the midst of his nervous breakdown and he looks at his closet and goes a little nuts at how uniform and samey it all is.
Afterwards, it'll become more known that Eric is partial to Aqua shades. I think he dyes his hair Aqua for a bit but doesn't like how it looks.

I'm so sorry, Plan. I just want to vent so I sent this ask.
https://twitter.com/mizunocaitlin/status/1488788138419838976?t=r2Nqeb-BKwGLnEVX21obBQ&s=19
So according to this tweet, WWX manipulated JC to accept the transfer and it was a morally gray choice. Op, pls, tell me in what part of the novel did WWX manipulated JC into accepting the transfer (coz I didn't read anything in the novel that says that he did) and how did it became a MORALLY GRAY CHOICE (seriously ugh). Coz JC knows he's getting a GC. He CONSENTED to it. And no, he didn't ask any particulars about it. He CONSENTED to it knowing IT IS WWX'S CHANCE OF GETTING A GC BACK IF, SOMEHOW, SOMETHING HAPPENS TO HIS OWN GC.
I just want to scream into the void. I really, really want to. Once again, I'm sorry, Plan. Just venting my pent up feelings.
Haha it's ok. Ugh kill this ridiculous core transfer hot take w fire already ლ(ಠ_ಠ ლ).
I discussed the core transfer at length here. But let's address this one really quickly too:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
WWX didn't hide it from jc bc he feared jc couldn't deal w the guilt of WWX sacrificing so much, or even bc he was afraid jc would reject the core. He didn't tell jc bc he knew it would give jc the angry sads that he couldn't mindlessly engage in his unhinged one sided competition w him anymore.
If someone as unhealthily competitive as him found out about this, he’d be dispirited his whole life, too tortured to face himself. There’d always be something he could never overcome, reminding him that he could only reach where he was because of another’s sacrifice. It wasn’t at all his cultivation and his achievement. No matter if he won or lost, he’d long since lost the right to compete.
And he's right. jc's reaction finding out about the core isn't horror at how much WWX sacrificed it's: "so u agree? u think ur better than me >:-/ !!?". It's frustration that WWX will always be a better person than him and that it feels awks to dump all his hate so casually on him now. Also, as usual jc tries to twist all of WWX's motivations through his own fucked up lens where every good deed must be done w an ulterior motive - which says a lot more about jc than it does about WWX:
Jiang Cheng let out a hah, “Of course. Giving without expecting anything in return. What a high level. Unlike me, of course. So that’s why my father always said you were the one who truly understood the Jiang Sect’s motto and did things the Jiang way, back when he was alive.”
Wei WuXian couldn’t keep on listening any longer, interrupting him, “Enough.”
Jiang Cheng’s voice harshened, “What do you mean, enough? It’s enough as long as you say so? You know everything! You’re better than me at everything! Whether it be talent or cultivation or spirituality or personality, you guys knew everything while I was much lower—then what am I?!?!”
He suddenly reached out, as if to seize Wei WuXian’s collar.
and then there's this ...
Tumblr media Tumblr media
no sense just vibes. At least someone accurately answered them. YZY literally made WWX swear he would protect jiang cheng w his life and it was also Jiang Fengmian's final request. It's what WWX has in mind when he goes through w the core transfer to keep jc from hunger striking to 💀.
"Wei WuXian stared at him, Just what does he want? Is he lying? Is he being insincere? But this lie really is too ridiculous! Does he think that I’m an idiot?!
The scary thing was that a desperate ecstasy really did sprout from somewhere in the bottom of his heart.
He gave himself a harsh scolding in silence—he was stupid, useless, ridiculous, it was bizarre, unimaginable. Yet, he was alone, without a sword or any tools, and on the other side of the wall there were thousands of Wen Sect’s cultivators, perhaps Wen ZhuLie as well.
He wasn’t scared of death. He was only scared that after he died, he wouldn’t be able to save Jiang Cheng and betray the trust that Jiang FengMian and Madam Yu left him. In such circumstances, the only one he could place his hope on was a person of the Wen Sect whom he had met only three times in total!
Wei WuXian licked his chapped lips, speaking in a dry voice, “… Then… could you… could you help me… take the bodies of Sect Leader Jiang and Madam Yu…” (Chapter 59)
"He remembered every single thing he promised Jiang FengMian and Madam Yu—to help and take care of Jiang Cheng." (Chapter 103)
Also the procedure was dangerous (and excruciating) for WWX. If it failed jc would still not have a core but WWX would be left without his for nothing. The risk was on WWX's part. I know reading comprehension is hard for jc stans but this is a pretty basic concept. jc climbed a mountain blindfolded, happy to con Baoshan Sanren into giving him a new core , and ready to do anything to get it, and he got it. A more powerful core than his own. A core he was perfectly happy with that he used to lead a siege to kill WWX and the ppl he was protecting. A core he has not desire or intention to give up. At no point does jc say: "I wish u hadn't give it to me >:0". Ppl throwing around words like "violated jc's body" sounding foolish af. Taking a heroic sacrifice, framed as a heroic sacrifice in the novel, and trying to vilify it to make their shitty fav look better.

The internet isn't harming our mind of 'deep reading', it's cultivating it

The internet isn't harming our mind of 'deep reading', it's cultivating it
September, the first positivity officers of the United Arab Emirates’s Ministry for Happiness will start their schooling in pleasure technology, a software designed for them via the University of California, Berkeley, and Oxford University. The UAE established its Happiness Ministry in February. In July, the government of Madhya Pradesh nation in India accompanied suit. It will be controlled through the internet.
Internet mind
Typically, when governments set out to enhance their citizens’ subjective well-being, they present the idea as a good result in itself. That’s not to be sniffed at. However, there’s every other facet to this pursuit. Lots of evidence suggests that glad humans are not bested healthier in the end (and therefore much less luxurious to the state), But additionally higher employee bees.
A simple experiment demonstrates this. While volunteers are asked to carry out straightforward mathematical duties over in going back for modest in keeping with project payment, they do about 10% extra work if they have just watched a couple of minutes of a comedy display. If they look at a monotonous video Alternatively or don’t locate the show uplifting, the impact isn’t there.
Outside of the lab, software program programmers are better at fixing analytical problems when they’re happier. Putting plenty of people collectively, employees’ activity pleasure stages today may even are expecting a company’s price on Wall Street a yr down the road.
Past these slender measures of productiveness, there’s a suite of broader societal benefits – free items – that flow from keeping residents smiling. In Germany, for instance, the 7% of the population that offers blood doesn’t fit into any clean demographic generalisation. It isn’t disproportionately male, or lady hired or not – or more or less educated. However, Germans who document feeling commonly satisfied inside the previous month are much more likely to donate blood than folks who don’t.
As liberal governments parent all of this out and are looking for to encourage happiness and its spin-off effects, there may be at least one visible bump in the road: a countervailing fashion that isn’t making mass-happiness advent so easy. The power to raise citizens’ wellbeing is taking region as people are shifting their communications from in-person conferences to ever more online exchange.
Probably the largest have a look at of its type, meant to evaluate the results of social media use on everybody in Italy, makes for gloomy analysing. It without a doubt hyperlinks spending time on social networking websites with decrease levels of person happiness, and more especially, with a lower degree of well known consider in society.
Long before the Guardian released its marketing campaign in opposition to cyberbullying, even before Monika Lewinsky received a pummeling in the late Nineteen Nineties, there has been rightly reason to suspect that online communities might foster horrific vibes. Fifty years of research has underscored the conclusion that swapping written messages is an entirely ineffective manner to generate cooperation in war conditions. Face-to-face communique is inordinately higher.
This means, of the route, that the web international may additionally already be gambling nicer than it did some years ago, as social media structures have made it simpler for human beings to percentage video and audio cloth. Organisations which include Facebook have cottoned on to the concept that they want to broaden an entire host of soft skills to foster online Concord.
What’s regularly left out in discussions of social media malaise is that people, armed with the brand new happiness research, also can broaden tender abilities in their personal, to shield themselves from the subtly reduced impacts of online interplay. To that quit, right here are a few suggestions to hold your health pretty buoyant.
First, don’t fear approximately what number of on-line friends you have got. Whatever your persona type, age or profits, a have a look at of five,000 human beings (and their buddies) in Canada famous that doubling your range of actual global pals has an enormous impact on your happiness. Increasing your friends on social media has nearly none.
2d, avoid passively scrolling via your Fb feed. Doing so has been proven in experiments to make humans experience little and green with envy as they consume the rose-tinted edits of they buddies’ lives. Actively messaging and commenting on Fb is far less probable to offer you the blues.
Third, if you insist on scrolling thru your Facebook feed, train yourself to pay selective attention to updates from buddies with whom you’re near within the offline global. Their posts are Possibly as biased as everybody else’s, However reading them fosters a unique kind of envy of the nice, self-motivating variety. Through contrast, eating a glut of easy romance and individual adventure sports from distant associates is possible to conjure up a choice to drag others down.
Reading on the internet
Eventually, if you feel small, take pleasure in internet cats, the YouTube content material class with more views-per-video than some other. Research out of Indiana University unearths that the more human beings watch net cats, the more they reveal in the enjoy. (And in case you get definitely into it, you can constantly visit the internet cat film competition.)
Primarily based on their happiness measurements, the authors of that examine cross up to now as to suggest a function for Grumpy Cat and the permanently kitten-sized Lil Bub in puppy therapy, doubtlessly in the vicinity of the actual component.
Are young people losing the ability to study properly? I heartily want they have been because I would then have got a decent table nowadays on the British Library, which turns into overrun with undergraduates in the course of the University holidays. However what approximately younger human beings in trendy who are Facebooking and Tindering all day and can’t deal with whatever more than a soundbite? This alleged ADHD era, in addition to its elders who’ve been sucked into the internet lifestyle, may be chargeable for the human species losing its “deep-reading mind”. At the least, that is the concern expressed by using a group of writers and neuroscientists calling themselves the Sluggish analysing Movement.
In our lifestyle of an excitable neuroscientist, a variety of such arguments appoint the horny phrase “brain” and so sound goal scientifically. However, they’re truly socio-cultural reasons. Absolute confidence there are numerous forms of mission-particular neural developments (i.e., “brain” types) that have been misplaced in the mists of evolutionary time, and whose absence we haven’t any reason to regret. Not many human beings in advanced industrial societies nowadays, as an example, develop up developing the intellectual talents required to kill tasty massive mammals with a properly-hurled spear. But we do not study hand-wringing tales approximately how we have misplaced the antelope-searching mind. So there needs to be an also demonstration that the “deep-analyzing mind” is something worth valuing. And this is by no means going to be a (neuro)medical argument; it is a cultural argument.
As it takes place, I value deep reading – and so, possibly, do you. And so, quite naturally, do all of the youngish human beings I see regular on London shipping analysing seven hundred web page published books such as the game of Thrones collection, 50 Sunglasses of Grey or the brand new Donna Tartt. Stuart Jeffries has written persuasively about the popularity of such doorstops, in addition to sophisticated present day Television collection. This might be a subculture no longer of attention deficit But of “a wealth of care targeted extra comfortably at the matters that warrant it”.
Of path the internet may be distracting – you’re studying this, in spite of everything. It’s true that skimming is tempting, that being crushed with facts is in a few quarters worn perversely as a badge of pride; and that the request to explicit the “takeaway” (or, as a few say, the “to do”) of a prolonged piece of writing bespeaks a philistine facts-age instrumentalism, consistent with which the most effective viable characteristic of writing is to transmit bite-sized facts. And the brand new wave of velocity-reading apps which include Spritz might not assist, due to the fact it’s far well set up that the quicker you examine, the less you maintain approximately whatever the hell it was that just flashed by.
And but the mind in such doomy pronouncements that we’d all be slaves to skimming and thus be permitting our brains to atrophy sounds enormously condescending, simply As it did while expressed in Nicholas Carr’s ebook The Shallows. This type of paternalistic fatalism seems ably refuted via sales of younger Adult blockbusters, as well as by way of researchers who bother to discover what young human beings Clearly do.
Internet mind
In step with John Palfrey and U.S.A.Gasser’s Born Virtual, for instance, a teen’s “information-accumulating system” alternated skimming or “grazing” with a “deep dive” while she found something she may want to get her tooth into. And such nutritious, dense, lengthy pieces of writing are, of course, becoming ever more popular on the very same internet that pessimists blame for destroying our interest spans. Increasingly more on-line magazine startups are dedicated to in intensity reportage or cheerfully non-topical discussions of thoughts over many thousands of fantastically typeset words. Ideal, you might even say, for Gradual analysing.
