since we are a week from nona here are my top predictions. Now I don't have "evidence" for these so much as Vibes. With that in mind:
*alecto in harrow's body, harrow in alecto's body, gideon back in gideon body by end of book
*gr*ddlehark kiss but in the most convoluted angsty possible way before they are parted once again by circumstance
*ianthe makes suggestive comments to john who nopes out of there to the dream bubble where he meets with harrow
*coronabeth badtwin moment
*nona has to sacrifice her identity to become someone she was before, we all cry
*camilla palamedes tragic choice
*Anastasia/Alecto scraps
*mercy/augustine Actual failed marriage pre-necromancy
*john hot professor moment (vindication for me specifically when everyone who isn't a lesbian or a Good People Enjoyer follows me into my toxic waste thirst zone)
*some kid Nona knows becomes a zombie
*3 shakespeare refs this time
*between 5 and 10 bible refs
*yeah I'm still on my nona is alecto bullshit. I don't buy gideon, harrow, or any combo because both of them are intense in ways that Nona is not & I don't think you could go back far enough in their memories to make either one of them easygoing but who am I to say
*fuck it. pyrrha/camilla give camilla a sexy summer fling let's see how complicated we can make this polycule
*aiglamene with a steel chair
*nona not affected by resurrection beast, thinks it's cool & potentially a friend
*tamsyn picks a new character to convince me to like better (babs?? silas??? some new horrible teen I have trouble getting invested in but grow to appreciate by the end?)
and finally
*I don't cry at the expected moment but at a totally different moment that hits me out of nowhere
my favourite thing about portal 2 fanworks is that wheatley is always there for some unexplained reason. like yeah he got back from space it's chill now
This might've already been discussed in the fandom, but since I just jumped in, I need to know: what's the general consensus on the social media usage of The Corinthian?? Is he an IG hoe, or does he fly under the radar the whole time? Does he take pictures of Dream and post them or does he rather not? Does he act all smug around Lucienne because she can't stand social media? Does he have a secret Dream stan-account on Twitter?!?! I need to know!
It’s not a romance.
Mu Qing isn’t blind to Xie Lian’s knowing looks and unsubtle comments. For all his lack of interest in personally experiencing romance or the like, Xie Lian seems to delight in the idea that Mu Qing and Hua Cheng have fallen into some sort of wild forbidden romance.
That is blatantly false.
“So, what do I get for not killing you?” Hua Cheng asks, sounding a bit bored, as he tilts E’ming’s blade a hair closer to Mu Qing’s neck.
For one thing, Crimson Rain has clearly never heard of romance in the first place.
Snarling, Mu Qing shifts and swings his right leg up hard toward Hua Cheng’s ribs. Hua Cheng slips out of reach fast enough to avoid getting hit but not fast enough to avoid Mu Qing grabbing his ankle and dragging him down to the ground. Mu Qing rolls on top of him, catching his wrists and slamming them down on the wooden floor.
objectively i know not everyone has the same taste in books and stories reach us in different ways at different times of our lives and that's beautiful and part of the human experience etc etc but also seeing my irl friend rate one of my favorite books 3 stars on goodreads makes me want to commit real life murder
I love when the turtles are transed but I think it would be so funny if nothing about their design changed because of it, no bows or eyeliner (which is popular and cute), no skirts or dresses or anything before or after being transed (Splinter never gave them clothes aside from their masks and belts anyway), they just go "call me a boy/girl"
I’ll be honest, I really like grizzly’s characters, they are often my favorites along with charlie’s. Like grizz has some very blatant personal issues that I genuinely hope he actually unpacks and fixes for everyone’s sake(pleaseplease I’m so tired) but I feel like people are taking easy digs at his characters a lot and acting like he isnt very creative with them….which I just have to disagree. Like aside from all being ✨pretty✨ they have all been vastly different in their goals, personalities, and hell even design details. And he is not the only jrwi player to make majority white boy pcs, in fact, I believe charlie and bizly have only ever had white boy characters. Grizzly also played aster and rumi/elena, which puts him on par with Condi (jay and vyncent) for non white boy characters. Ig I understand being annoyed that they all have to be pretty, but his characters are far from one dimensional/copy pastes
No actually though while I'm on a roll ranting about the funny monke show
THIS FUCKING SCENE IN PARTICULAR GETS ME SO BAD. I THINK ABOUT THIS SCENE SO OFTEN
The timing of MK's words and what we see on screen.
"I'd never abandon her when she needs me"
When MK says this, the shot is focused on Wukong, as he listens in and starts to glance back at Macaque.
LIKE WE KNOW. WE K N O W WUKONG ABANDONED MACAQUE. Those two have SOME shit going on in their past. Macaque needed Wukong, and he left him (either intentionally or unintentionally) and that left Macaque bitter and sad, and that bitterness was prolly left to rot after hundreds of years (not to mention that whatever happened between them got worse and worse and. Yknow jttw. Wukong ends up killing him.)
BUT WHAT GETS ME IS THE NEXT PART AFTERWARDS.
"We're heroes, it's what we do!"
Macaque and Wukong have ALWAYS been compared to the sun and moon. Like, canonically. Wukong calls Macaque his shadow, Macaque compares him to light-- they're opposites.
When MK talks about them being heroes, it's focused on Macaque because- well, he's NOT a hero. Not to himself, anyway. And this is brought up again and again; during his shadow plays, he specifically refers to Wukong (and MK) as "the hero". And they are! But Macaque doesn't see himself like that-- he refers to himself as "the Warrior". He doesn't feel like a hero. And this is brought up again in the s3 specials. "I'm not a hero, bud-" and "then be a warrior".
He's so used to living in everyone's shadows and being at the bottom of the barrel-- he's got a "worse version of Wukong's powers" (in Wukong's own words), he's revived by LBD only to be forced to do her dirty work, he's punished when he doesn't fall in line with her- he loses no matter what.
AND LBD SAYS IT HERSELF.
As soon as Macaque was given the chance (or, a "breath of new life") he tries to fuck off and do his own thing! He tries to stay far away from everything else.
But he doesn't get to.
He's threatened and shoved down into the dirt again and again and again and it's no wonder he was so desperate in s3e8-10. He tries to freak Tang out, tries to compare them to each other, but it backfires. LBD immediately tries to off him, but he desperately screams at her about a weapon MK and the others are planning to use- he doesn't care that he's giving her information, he just doesn't want to DIE. He begs MK and everyone else to stand down, that he just wants to take the Samadhi Fire and leave. He sounds just so DONE with it all during that scene. And when Tang does finish the ritual and the Samadhi Fire is reawakened-- what does it do?
It gets rid of LBD's hold on Macaque. He's no longer being trapped in crystal.
And he says, all happy, "it worked!"
You see the same thing in s3e8. After Tang tells him "don't you see the Samadhi Fire is our only way of helping humanity?"
Macaque tells him, "the Samadhi Fire is MY only chance at getting far away from the Lady Bone Demon"
He never wanted to help her. All he wanted to do was get away from her. He never intended to give her the Samadhi Fire, the rings-- nothing.
He's selfish, and honestly, who can blame him? Given everything we know about him, he owes everyone here nothing. He doesn't want to help them, he doesn't want to help or listen to WUKONG, who (again, either intentionally or unintentionally) abandoned him and later killed him, he doesn't even want to rlly hurt MK that much ("stand down, or I will PUT you down" implies that he doesn't want to fight him if he doesn't have to, but at this point he's so desperate for his own survival that he will if MK won't get out of his way).
Macaque doesn't see himself as a hero because he can't identify himself with that kind of title.
Another weird year, to be sure. Between finishing up school, job hunting, moving out, and all sorts of family things, it's been... a really slow year. It's a feeling I keep coming back to, this feeling like I'm not doing enough. Like there's some invisible deadline that I'm failing to meet. And that failure is what's keeping me from getting any enjoyment out of the works I do finish.
But that's not really... helpful, is it? Loathe as I am to admit it, focusing on what I did accomplish makes me feel better and it is worth celebrating, I think. Darn therapy actually giving me helpful tips and advice.
Now, most of what I wrote this year I shared exclusively with friends. Tbh this is both because it's all been pretty self indulgent OC stuff ngl, but also it's niche content for my DnD characters. But both Lorna and Alexi got some really excellent pieces, and Euripheus' origin/demise piece was another one I enjoyed doing.
Except for the part where I had to write an awkward family discussion/fight. Nearly did me in.
On a different note, Alexi's AU piece clocks in at nearly 10k words, which is the longest one-shot I've ever done. Bonkers. I really just wanted to torment him, huh?
Aside from that, I've been diligently chipping away at my worldbuilding documents, each of which is wildly different in construction/layout. Mostly due to their different reasons for being, and purposes. The OI one is the least developed as of now, but I hope in the next week to really dive into (hah) the nations and make those tangible cultures. My Fading Reflections one only really needs a timeline and some loose details added here and there.
The Sun/Moon game concept expanded to having a separate NPC doc, and I'm testing out how the dialogue could theoretically sound. In Stars and Time really inspired me, and I think it'll be a fun little side project as I side eye other things.
Then my big one, the Crane Wives Analysis. It's the first time I've ever done something like that and it really gave me a deeper appreciation for a band I already adore. 20k words over the course of the year, with half of those coming in November alone when I did NaNoWriMo for the first time! Not the traditional way that event works, but I completed all my goals, so hooray!
I also did nearly half of the Whumptober prompts I picked out, and am still doing those when I feel stuck.
I don't know where this next year will take me in terms of writing. I'm starting my new job, which while extremely exciting, does raise the question of Time. I'm on my own, going to have to do all the Adult Things™, and free time is definitely going to be at a premium. It does worry me, but I'll adjust (I hope).
So yeah! I'll attach links to some of my works below the cut, and wish you all a happy new year! Thanks for sticking around!
