honestly f&b and especially the dance of the dragons are like..... collections of my all least favorite things about asoiaf, without any of the stuff that makes asoiaf good to me.... there’s no grand mythic sweep, no focus on story and song and prophecy and rhyming history, no theme of nature returning vengefully and no conflict between natural/heroic/chivalric paradigms, no MAGIC, no The Only True Knights Are Not Knights At All with a little hint of gendering, no human heart in conflict with itself, like Oh it’s literally all war and politics????? who wants that barf

#its like yeah the theme of the dance is War Bad. nuclear weapons bad. YEAH. OKAY #that works as a HISTORY #as a context for a story... not the story itself! #all the main characters are awful and self serving! no thank you im good! #the thing about a conflict where no one is right is that then it doesnt matter! your theme cancels itself out! #there's no arc there it's just blood and chaos and dragon fights forever #which...... is why im not hugely mad about any hotd news. because i cannot care about any of the characters #and will enjoy it as a popcorn show with no expectations lol #woah shock horror monarchy bad?? youre telling me MONARCHY is BAD? #woah now...... careful.... next you'll say war is hell................ #you need that little There's still good in this world frodo!!!!!! or else... who cares #-_____- #no magic................
