peter parker is selfish.

may and ben had given him everything, he spent nights sleeping comfortably; oblivious to the amount of stress his presence had given them, peter ran around the couples small apartment playing superhero’s while they figured out how they were going to feed a third person. he grew up more or less happy, and it was all because of them— they were perfect.

and what does peter do? he storms out after a stupid argument, he wanders down three different streets and ignores may’s calls. he screams at ben when he finds him, he refuses to go home, he gets ben shot.

when may found out, she didn’t look at peter with hate— there wasn’t a morsel of anger in his aunts eyes, she only held him and assured him that it wasn’t his fault, and isn’t that the most ridiculous thing? her husband was dead, and she was holding the reason he bled out on the alleyway, she was comforting the root of her grief.

and peter let her, he snuck into her room everytime a nightmare visited, letting himself fall back into her arms. he let her sign him up for midtown, he let her book his therapy appointments.

peter stood by and watched his aunt pull herself together for his sake, just like he watched his uncle get shot ( and just like he watched tony stark snap. )

so when may asks if he’s been eating breakfast, he’ll lie and tell her he grabs something on the way, when she gives him his allowance, he’ll slowly shove it into her savings jar, and when he gets a nightmare he’ll toughen up.

because yeah, he was selfish, he was selfish because he stayed. but he wouldn’t let himself be a burden again, he won’t let himself be put in a position where he needs help.

( and when he apologizes to mr.stark, half of his body gone and dusted. it’s because he knows what it’s like to watch someone you care for die, and he knows that his failure would leave a burden on tony’s shoulders. he knows that he’s inconvenienced someone again. )

I think it’s narratively interesting - if sad - how Angel leaves Buffy to give her a chance to have a full life, and she becomes progressively more isolated - even from her best friends and family - as the series goes on; whereas Angel, who has been isolated except for his relationship with Buffy for decades, gains a found family with multiple levels of emotional connection and growth after he leaves.

In all honesty, while I will always love Angel and Buffy and Angel’s relationship, it’s one of my aggravations with his reasoning for leaving. If he’d left because the relationship was hurting *him* (and I believe in some ways it was, at that point), I would think it was tragic and beautiful. But leaving for *her*, ignoring her wants and needs and removing one of the few people Buffy truly felt comfortable opening up to and being vulnerable with, ends with Buffy having fewer options in her emotional tool belt and feeling as if she is the part of their relationship that was the freak show.

Buffy felt comfortable opening up completely to Angel because Angel makes it clear to Buffy that he loves her, all of her, always, in ways her other long term emotional support pillars don’t always manage to articulate (even if they feel the same). She’s Xander’s hero, and Xander *can* and has been judgmental, so she’s not always comfortable being vulnerable in all aspects of her life with him. She and Willow are close, and Willow isn’t judgmental, but it does seem like Buffy feels the need to be alright for her, especially when she’s spiraling in season 6. She doesn’t want any emotions she has from Willow’s actions to hurt *Willow*, and she prioritizes protecting Willow over being honest with her. Dawn is her dependent. And Giles? She opens up to him and he leaves anyway.

And I think in a majority of these situations, Buffy would be better off being honest - or, in the case of Dawn, more if not entirely honest - with her loved ones. Xander can be judgmental, but he makes it clear in season 5’s Intervention that he can be empathetic and kind, and that his primary concern when it comes to Buffy is Buffy’s health and happiness. Willow is going through her own problems in season 6; but in general, she is also open and empathetic and kind, and her primary concern when it comes to Buffy is also her health and happiness. Buffy puts up these walls because she feels responsible for her friends’ emotional responses, and I do think part of that is her feelings of guilt stemming from her parents’ divorce ( her ‘father’s’ monologue in Nightmares is both horrific and a bit funny); and then Angelus’ murders; and then Angel’s and Riley’s (and then Giles’) exits from her life. Because the people she’s opened up to leave, she becomes convinced that she loses people when she shows them her imperfections and her flaws and her hurts.

Angel gains friends and family once he leaves Sunnydale. He doesn’t always open up to them, and he makes a lot of questionable decisions, but his world expands considerably post-break up. I love that for him. And it’s not on him or his issue to fix, either, but I do ache for Buffy that her circles get smaller and seem more brittle as the seasons go on.

How the Batfam marks their place in a book

Alfred and Bruce: they’re old-school and traditionalists. They will use a bookmark. Alfred has a really fancy silver one that was a gift from Martha Wayne as they both shared a love of Shakespeare. Bruce uses the ones you can find at the counters at bookstores. But both of them have a stash of handmade ones from the kids that they refuse to use in books because they’re too precious.

Damian: He also uses bookmarks. His are ones that he has drawn himself and he has a different one for each fiction genre. When it’s non-fiction, he gets even more specific with his designs.

Dick: He doesn’t do a lot of reading and if it is it’s something quick, like a comic or an article. However, when he does he has a special bookmark that Damian designed for him. It’s a mixture of Romani, Circus and Gothamesque drawings that go really well together. In all honesty Dick loves it too much and will dog ear over using it in fear of loosing it.

Tim: He dog ears. Often he’s to busy flitting from one thing to another so he goes for the quick and easy route. Jason thinks he’s a monster.

Steph and Cass: They use sticky notes. The both of them loose bookmarks too easily and find that this way they can mark their page and their sentence if they back to. It’s a method they learnt from Barbara.

Barbara: She uses sticky notes when she’s using a physical book but more often than not she uses a kindle or her app on her phone. This way she can carry books a lot easier.

Jason: He thinks that anyone to do gears a page is a monster. He’s also an annotator. His books are filled with stick notes and pencil scribblings. On his more precious books he uses those see through stickynotes to write as not to damage pages. He is however a chaos marker. While he does own bookmarks, he will use anything to mark his page. Bruce has found a Batarang once, Dick found the envelope of a phone bill, Tim found his book sitting on a roof with a bullet marking his page, Steph has found his burner phone marking a page, Cass has found another book marking his page and Alfred has found Jason’s face marking a page. Basically Jason will use anything.

Just rewatched DFF ep 9 and I really do think this show is so beautifully meticulously artistically written, with themes and layers and so much thoughtful care. I trust wherever it leads, even if it doesn't lead to the places I want most in my heart (PerthNon vs. PheeTan revenge teams at crosshairs, culminating in a heartfelt brotherly reunion, lol if playfully grudging at how much they fucked up each other's plans despite having the same goals, and a Non who has moved on with someone who has life experiences similar enough to his to actually understand him, listen to him, and trust him. But most importantly A HEARTFELT BROTHERLY REUNION). It's just always fun to watch a show where you can expect to be surprised, you can expect to be angry at the characters, you can expect to not get what you want, and you can still expect to appreciate the writing and enjoy the experience. Love to let the story seduce me you see

I'll never be able to take the theory that Vincent is Sephiroth's real father seriously cuz I cannot stress enough how important I think it is to the plot that Vincent wanted to fuck Lucrecia and did not get to.

Today's NSR Trivia: Rare(?) DJSS + DK West Art

Likely due to being the first proper boss in the game, DJ Subatomic Supernova has a lot of unused/cut content, including a theme for a nonexistent "approach" level (which can be heard in the "NSR Approach Megamix"), cut voice lines, and no debriefing profile.

While the official twitter has shared what this hypothetical debriefing would have entailed, I don't think the unused art for his profile has ever been posted through a first party source or exists in the game's files.

However, it is viewable in a Steam trading card.

Similarly, DK West, who also lacks a proper debriefing, is a part of this set and thus also has unique art only shown in these trading cards.

Whether this art was drawn specifically for the trading cards or if the art existed prior is currently unknown. (Though I personally suspect the latter.)

New headcanon just dropped. Quirrel is terribly shit at aiming and throwing objects at targets. Especially, compared to Tiso despite him being an ant and ants having terrible sight in general.

This is mostly because Quirrel had no need to throw objects at things precisely before compared to Tiso who’s battle style literally hinges on how accurate he can throw his shield at even the smallest of targets.

Back when he was working with Monomon, even when she asks him to throw something towards her, if the target you’re aiming at is twice your size (and that’s not even accounting for Monomon’s tentacles that has a stretching width of more than Quirrel’s overall height in general), aiming precisely doesn’t even matter much if she can easily catch it with her multiple tentacles. And when he did finally start fending off for himself, his lack of aim can easily be compensated for by his sheer agility and speed, regardless of how far an enemy is. Even flying enemies, duel to the amount of height he can cross by his jumping capabilities.

All of these circumstances he lived and endured through as well as his fighting style in general bred his inability to aim accurately. 

As one would expect, Tiso was elated finding out that the skillful Scholar of all things has such a shitty aim. Sure, he was a nerd and a admirable warrior but you’re telling him that Quirrel seriously can’t aim for shit? When he, despite his shitty eyesight, overcame that particular obstacle to make himself a competent warrior? It was hilarious!!!!

Unsurprisingly, Tiso would tease Quirrel about it whenever they would do target practice. And Quirrel is definitely thoroughly embarrassed by such a fact. But there was no real harm about it and both of them knew they were both just having fun.

After all, it’s oddly reassuring to know that even the most competent people aren’t perfect. And that it’s normal that there will be something else another person would excel at that you wouldn’t.

It just reminds Tiso that Quirrel is just another person like any other.

A person with talents and flaws.

A person with ambitions and grief.

A person who seen so much and yet still yearns to discover more.

A person who went through so much and yet still continues to smile and be kind.

Tiso thinks he’ll like a person like that. Regardless of all their flaws and beauty.
