Me, trying to focus on my Inklings Challenge Story: If you’re a good girl and finish your epistolary portal fantasy, maybe you can write your spaceship Christmas special.

#not that i can focus on either one as a real story #i'm just reminded of how desperately i want a christmas tree on a spaceship #and i'm combining every half-baked space idea i've ever had into one crazy mishmash of a world #while focusing the actual prose energy on the portal fantasy #the space idea may be better suited to daydreams than to actual story stuff #but i do have actual characters! #with at least a couple of character traits besides 'nice' #and backstories! #(mostly coming from me stealing them from different stuff) #and worldbuilding built primarily on 'what if star trek but different?' #and puns #earth is not under one government but hosts several space-faring nations #major powers are poland wales and hawaii #the polish commonwealth has the largest terrestrial presence and a very robust space fleet #they get along well with wales because they absorbed england into the commonwealth and left wales alone #wales has a smaller terrestrial presence but very widespread interstellar territories with a wide array of species #aliens who claim welsh citizenship are known as waliens #(this is the primary pun and i am proud of it) #not sure what's up with hawaii yet #i just want to continue the trend of giving sovereignty to nations that have famously been historically deprived of it #plus give them space empires #as a treat #there are also hints of several non-earth-based independent human territories #which should provide leeway to explore lots of different societies #of course all this would be backstory to very very small on-page stories #i have a few ideas playing out #but mostly cold-open crew banter types of stuff #none of this will probably turn into anything i just felt the need to mention the latest thing distracting my writing brain #adventures in writing #adventures in the inklings challenge
