I have one post to make about the I/P conflict:
Please read more than US news sources. Sure, outside news sources are also biased, but the US Culture Filter that US news uses IS NOT one-size-fits-all.
As an expat, I keep trying to tell folks that you can't overlay US culture and morals over other cultures. There's a LOT more to this conflict than a binary good vs. evil. Don't get me wrong, lots of evil going on here and it's heartbreaking, but if you believe it's just Muslim vs. Jew, you're not getting the whole picture. Please educate yourselves and try not to demonize one side or the other based on US morals and puritanical Christian lenses (and don't tell me you don't because we're all raised with it... like most systemic BS). There are a lot of civilians, Jew, Muslim, and Christian (did you forget about the Arab Christians?) that are against this war, here and abroad, and are scared right now because of anti-Jew and anti-Muslim sentiment, even from people who should know better.
How do we fix this? I don't know, because compassion for other humans is in short supply these days. There's enough hatred both on the extreme left and extreme right, and even some in the middle that it makes me, a pastor, want to scream.
All I can do is remind folks that compassion, love, and forgiveness are 3 different things, and that compassion for other humans doesn't necessarily mean you have to love or forgive them, or demonize whole groups of people. There are plenty of governments and government officials you can rant about without demonizing groups as a whole.
I hope this make some sense, and this is the first and last thing I'll be writing about this. Take a breath and think a minute before you @ me as well. There's already enough drama out there...

I need white people to stop making “where can I adopt a child” posts whenever there’s a war or tragedy in the global south. We don’t need white people, of all people, to take these children away from their countries, culture, and heritage. Go adopt children from your own country. We don’t need that white saviour complex bullshit here.

I feel like if humans came into contact and formed alliances with aliens and the aliens discover “humans are space orcs” on tumblr, they will share the same reaction we do to flat-earthers.
That’s it. That’s my ted talk.

I want to expand on this idea in the future:
Dutch Van der Linde is the perfect analogy for the white saviour.
He presents himself as someone who believes in equality; however, he uses his progressive stand views as long as it's rewarded with praise, his support is very minimal (basically not being overtly racist) and receives praise over it, but is willing to overlook racism if it benefits him ( him letting Micah stay in the gang), his views are literally based on a privileged man pretending to understand the oppressed (Evelyn Miller, Lenny calls him out on this), he pretends to care and empathize with the structures of oppression but is very willing to exploit them anyways (the whole thing with the wapiti tribe).
at his core I think Dutch would see himself as a saviour -but the narrative itself shows who he really is, and what every white saviour at its core is: A fake hero.
Sure, Dutch's saviour complex and manipulation is evident with all characters, but to pretend that race or ethnicity doesn't hold a big role in how these dynamics work (especially on the time period) would be willful ignorance.

Dany isn't a "white saviour" as we understand them in our world.
It's hard to explain so I'll leave it at this for now:
She's what a "white saviour" pictures themselves as, what they model themselves after, but she, herself, is not a "white saviour." The context needed for her to be a "white saviour" does not apply; it's debatable if it even really exists in ASOIAF.
A "white saviour" is someone who benefits from oppression, and wants a pat on the back for playing hero by "softening" that oppression for a day. The closest she gets to "white saviour" territory is actually in book 1 when she protects the women from Drogo's men. And even then, she had little agency to do anything further, was far more helpful than most "white saviours" could ever dream of, and most importantly, that's when she learns you can't hide behind small mercies in unjust systems; you need to ABOLISH the unjust systems.
If anything, her early arc is literally an anti "white saviour" arc. Because "white saviours" don't use their power to abolish unjust systems. The unjust systems are the SOURCE of their power, and they use their power to hide their complicity behind the very small mercies Dany knows to be insufficient.

thoughts on the Dany is a colonizer crowd?
i think people like using words 😭😭 its very much an issue of like authorial intent. i know death of the author is very en vogue but i do think it is important to consider why what how who when etc and i dont think grrm intended that either from a pro- or critical stance. i think hes a well meaning but also ignorant old white american man old guard SF author who never had to consider implications. i think the portrayal of characters from essos is quite racist esp the to the point coloniser is a specific word with a specific definition which i dont think applies to dany. however i understand the like impetus, because race is so personal and if someone with connections to colonisation feels kinship or whatever with dany's story i dont think thats necessarily wrong.
okay nvm im just enjoying the sound of my own fingers tapping thebscreen so ill say in conclusion. I think the crowd specifically is perhaps just looking for reasons to hate a character and arent engaging with the text on a reasonable level however i think you can critique the series with these arguments rationally

I've been watching Shogun on D+ lately. And while it is a pretty good show about ancient Japan, it has one white guy in it. Thankfully he's not like a white saviour or anything - in fact he just wants to fucking go home but Plot and Politics keep him prisoner.
And the funniest thing is, despite having lived in Japan for nearly a year now, he still hasn't bothered learning more than a few key phrases in Japanese (he has a translator LIVING WITH HIM to learn from), how to properly dress himself with Japanese garments, or grown/groomed his hair to look like anything other than a wet rodent fresh from a fight.
This man is surrounded by refined Japanese nobles and officers and walks into every scene looking like The Dude Lebowski with his robes hanging open and constantly struggling for words.
This unwashed and fumbling white dude keeps saving the life of a military genius, and trading in favours intended well but recieved in disgust (he gets a house full of staff and consort who hate him, he makes a british delicacy stew out of rotted bird).
