Yafya x fox reader
Part 1
One could take all the preventions in this world, be cautious all you want but another animal isn't… and you get all caught up in their mess. There is also such a thing as bad luck and a bike accident was just such a thing. It happened so fast, Y/n wasn't able to react to it.
**** The moment the bike hit the concrete wall, I assumed I was dead. The bicycle had flipped so many times that I had become disorientated. I kept waking up, only to become unconscious again. I preferred to be unconscious rather than awake. Because when I was awake I could taste the coppery blood pooling in my mouth. I could feel it grazing my teeth and soaking my tongue. I felt the aching and cracks in my bones. Each crack felt like rocks were burrowing into my skin. I sucked in cramped air, feeling my lungs caving in on themselves. I could hear the sound. It was a noise, mangled metal. I saw the spots in the corners of my vision. Then came a blue flicker, the sound of sirens in the distance.
****
To say Yafya was panicking, was an understatement. The horse swallowed hard, trying to keep the stoic expression he was known to wear. But from the corner of his eye, Gosha could tell his friend was scared. He was scared of losing someone who had crawled their way into his heart unexpectedly. The ride to the hospital was rather quiet; time seemed to pass in slow motion. Yafya decided to keep his eyes on the road, keeping himself from spiraling. 'What if the last thing he sees is your lifeless body, rotting away in a hospital bed?' 'What if you died, without ever knowing how much he loved you and how you are worthy?' 'What if you leave this world feeling underappreciated, filled with bitterness about all the animals (including him) that took you for granted?' It was clear that the view wasn't helping him at all with his thoughts.
**** Once the nurse greeted them and explained the accident, she let the visitors through Y/N's room, where the little fox was resting. Louis and Legoshi felt bad when they saw Y/N. After their unexpected visit a few months ago, they had become quite close, since there wasn't a big age difference. Haru had also been introduced to Y/N and had hit it off immediately. After a couple of minutes, the only one present was Yafya.
**** It hadn't been long since the accident, and as my aburn eyes open slowly, adjusting to the light of the room, I remembered my near-death experience vividly. I didn't exactly know where I was but from the cold metal bed rails, the soft pillows, and the scent of get-well flowers, I could guess it was a hospital. But what really got my attention was the soft snoring sounds that came from below. Slowly, I turned my gaze to the sleeping horse, sitting next to me on the floor, his hand holding my own. Looking at him, Yafya's pose didn't seem at all comfortable. Despite his young appearance, Yafaya was already in his 50s and it made me worry that his body could possibly hurt later on. Subconsciously, my small hand started caressing his much bigger one. His hand was rough, his nails shorter than mine, but I couldn't care less. My eyes traced over his facial features; loose strands of his black crest falling, covering his eyes. Though my scouting came to an end when the sound of the door opening interrupted my concentration. Panicking, I closed my eyes, pretending to be asleep. The doctor and nurse stepped into the room, waking Yafya in the process. I kept my eyes close. Attentively, I listened to the doctor and the old herbivore talking about me. After asking about personal information and things such as insurance, the nurse replaced my serum and both left the room again. I could feel Yafya's intense gaze on me, but my eyes were kept shut. After a couple of silent seconds, I heard a chair being dragged across the floor, shuffling, and silence again. I tried my best to keep my cover and act unconscious as best as I could. My curiosity slowly betraying me. "I like you," he finally said. "No, I'm not expecting a reaction, I'm just stating the fact that I like you. I've been in major denial for months now, denying these feelings inside my heart but I'm done. I like you. There… it's out in the world." Yafya took a deep breath before continuing, "I like you, and if you don't feel the same, that is okay too. I'm not expecting you to like me back, no one ever does." And I could only wonder how the hell someone could see his face, hear his thoughts, and look at his smile, but not fall in love with him.

Thoughts on a Beastars swap story where Juno is the main protagonist and Louis is the one who gets ambushed by her at the fountain?
I mean, Juno doesn't have Legosi's hang-ups about instincts, so...bye Louis!
Seriously though, that would be an interesting opening. The most popular kid at school, slated to be the next Beastar, is devoured by a mysterious assailant?
The whole school would be thrown into utter chaos, and if it came out that the bite marks were canine then I could easily see the staff having to stand guard outside the canine dorms to stop other students from just attacking them.
Just complete and utter chaos, frankly. Legosi is panicking because he's a large canine and his fellow students already found him creepy, so now the staff (at least the less polite ones) are side-eyeing him heavily.
Voss tried to walk to class and got kicked down a flight of stairs, despite the fact his jaws were way too small to realistically cause the bite marks on Louis' body.
A wave of anti-canine sentiment sweeps through Cherryton, and before long into Denko too. During the investigation, the police learn about Tem - maybe from Rokume? - and start looking into that too. Riz is captured by Yafya himself, and eventually they manage to find and arrest Juno too.
With both killers caught, the paranoia starts to lessen, but canine and bear students are all quite heavily discriminated against for several more years. Tigers begin to get a worse reputation, as sneaky and deceitful, after Principal Gon is arrested for failing to report the predation incident with Tem - he probably did report it in canon, but here I'm going off the idea that everything was too hectic at first and so it fell through the cracks. Then the Louis/Juno thing happened, and...yeah.

Chapter 60 – Traitors, Friends And Heroes
The Beastar’s life is never easy. Fighting for justice and the betterment of society is a duty, which needs constant attention.
This was true for Yafya as well when one faithful afternoon he fought a criminal gang of leopards on the top of an old medicine factory, who were tasked to steal a newly developed formula of a dangerous drug. The Black Devil fought well in the battle, sending felines flying left, right and center, putting the old theory that “cats always land on their feet” to the test. However, even if they were lucky to do so, Yafya made sure to knock them out with his fist soon after that.
One of the leopards snuck up on Yafya though, taking advantage of a split second when he was facing three others at once, stabbing him in the side with a knife. Yafya let out a hiss and then started laughing.
‘Is that all?’ he asked, showing off a terrifying grin before throwing the thief against the wall and bashing his head against it with his bare hands until he lost his consciousness. When all of the enemy was on the ground, Yafya cuffed them all up and rode back to his office on his motorbike.
As soon as he took a seat in his chair, a small army of mice flooded the office, bringing all sorts of medicine, gauze, disinfectants, cotton pads and cooling creams to treat the Sublime Beastar. Soon, the chief of the police logged in, via a video call.
‘I see this last mission took quite a heavy toll on you, Yafya’ he said.
‘Oh please, this is nothing’ Yafya belittled his injuries. ‘This is what happens when you’re fighting a leopard gang on factory chimneys and roofs. They can climb like monkeys.’
‘How could you be so reckless?’
‘I saw a family of chipmunks passing by. I had no choice but to climb onto the roof and then on the chimneys. Anyway, they are at the station now, so you can have the rest of the fun interrogating them.’
‘We’ll be thorough with our investigation.’
‘You better be. We must eliminate this damned blood bone drug… We’re still far from the perfect peace… But I’m not giving up.’
‘And we’ll be here to support you.’
‘Very well… I’ll talk to you later, chief.’
Yafya hung up and stood up from his chair. He thanked the mice for attending to him then dismissed them for the night. He looked out the window then walked up onto the roof to have a better view of the city. He raised his hand to his eyes and removed his blindfold, taking in the glistening view of the city buzzing all around him.
‘How long will it take to create perfect peace in this society?’ he thought as he basked in the golden light. From his position he could see almost everything. Almost everything… Almost… That 10 degrees of blind spot in his visual field left Yafya crazy of anger, often seeing it as a burden and therefore himself unable to be the perfect Beastar.
‘My range of vision is almost perfect…’ he thought. ‘If I could compensate for my blind spot, I could look over every nook and cranny in this city, bringing perfect peace… I could end all crimes! Alas, I can only see 350 degrees… If only I still had my 360-degree vision…’
Yafya suddenly remembered a situation when he and Gosha were facing several mobs of different species in a fight. They were cornered and outnumbered by bears, lions, jaguars and rhinos. It was the first time he ever felt weak because of his imperfect range of vision, yet Gosha encouraged him, offering to complete the remaining 10 degrees thus protecting his back himself. Together, they beat the mob gang to pulp, paving their roads to become Beastars.
‘You stopped fighting because you devoted yourself to a female wolf, debilitating me and my perfect vision, my perfect society and my perfect trust. I hate you. And yet, even after all these years since we parted ways, I still have a lingering attachment towards you… I am suffocating without you.’
Yafya was bounced back from reflecting by an incoming emergency call from the police.
‘I’m listening, chief.’
‘It seems we have a bunch of minor avian thieves who rushed one of the smaller banks in the outskirts of the city. Can we count on you?’
‘As always.’
The horse hung up and drove to the address, which the chief sent him. He knew that if the thieves were only some minor gang, they would have their outpost in the nearby area. Using his vision and sense of smell, Yafya traced the birds’ location, which was only a few blocks from the crime scene.
‘Evening, gentlemen!’ he yelled as he busted through their front door. He was greeted by multiple chickens and their pairs of surprised eyes, all looking at him in fear.
‘Hey, there are ladies here, too!’ one of them said.
‘Oh, my apologies. Let me just…’ Yafya closed the door for a moment, only to kick it in again and yell ‘Evening, everyone!’
After that, all birds flew at him at once with baseball bats, knives or just their bare hands. After long years of fighting, however, it only took Yafya about 15 minutes to take them down one by one. It didn’t even take him any effort either. He cuffed them up and tied their legs together before calling the station.
As he was leaving, he heard one of the roosters say ‘Man, this is not our week… First, we get beaten by an old hag of a Komodo dragon and a pup, and now the Black Devil…’
‘What did you say?’ Yafya said, turning back from the door.
‘You heard me. That Komodo dragon was mad strong.’
Yafya scoffed at the rooster then drove back to his office. He spent the night tracing down his old comrade. Thanks to his access to all data about the citizens, he soon found out a lot about Gosha’s life, most importantly his address, which haven’t changed in the last few years, and workplace.
Next morning, he drove to Gosha’s apartment. The olive green building had multiple balconies with black railing. Yafya looked around to see if the coast is clear, then proceeded to climb up to the balcony on the left of the second floor, then waited patiently, sitting on the railing, tapping his shoes on the tiles. He soon overheard a little conversation between Gosha and a child, the child calling him “Uncle Scaley”. He couldn’t help but chuckle to himself at such a ridiculous nickname. A few moments later, there was movement in the apartment.
‘It’s the perfect weather to hang up some clothes to dry on the balcony’ Gosha said to himself before opening the sliding door. The view there, however, was something he didn’t expect, making his heart skip a beat.
‘Long time no see, Uncle Scaley…’ Yafya said, annoyed. He took a better look at his former comrade, seething with anger before continuing in a calm manner ‘I’d say it’s been about 36 years, give or take, but we haven’t aged a day.’
Gosha remained silent, looking away awkwardly.
‘Is he so embarrassed that words fail him?’ Yafya thought. ‘How selfish…’
‘Open your mouth, Gosha.’
And so did the Komodo dragon, letting out a pool of black poison onto the balcony’s tiles.
‘What the hell are you doing!?’ Yafya yelled.
‘Oh, great…’ Gosha sighed. ‘It’s all poison, don’t touch it!’
‘What happened?’
‘Well, when Komodo dragons get surprised or too happy, their poison glands in their mouth open up’ Gosha let out a laugh.
‘An astonishing monster as always’ Yafya replied coldly.
‘Is that really you, Yafya’ Gosha smiled ear-to-ear.
‘Does it help if I lower my mane?’ the horse messed around with his mane with his hands.
‘Well, what do you know? It really is you. You still have your handsome looks, not like this old reptile!’
Gosha wiped his mouth in the elbow of his shirt and hugged Yafya. It was a bit of an uncomfortable situation for the latter, so he just patted the other on the back.
‘I see you are a lot shameless now. Is that what your dumb family life did to you?’
Gosha just laughed at the accusations before saying ‘Okay, I know you’ve always hated me for marrying a female wolf and that the mighty Beastar definitely did not pay me a visit just to ask how I am or to banter about old escapes, so come in and tell me why you visited me.’
‘You’re right’ Yafya said as he followed Gosha. ‘I’m here for something else!’ he yelled as he kicked Gosha inside the room.
The two of them immediately took up a fighting position.
‘I don’t want to hear the word Beastar from your mouth, Gosha!’ Yafya yelled as he lashed out at the reptile. Gosha jumped away just in time, causing Yafya to punch a bookshelf, breaking several of the shelves and pictures on it. ‘We were supposed to be Beastars together! You’ve ruined that dream for me! You and no one else!’ Yafya grabbed Gosha by his shirt’s collar, clenching his other hand into a fist, raising it up. ‘And now, out of the blue, you just start fighting again on your own? You would take everything from me!?’
Yafya punched Gosha in the hand with all he had, causing him to bash his head into a wall. The Komodo dragon let out a groan before he stood up and faced his ex-comrade again.
‘That punch was for the past 36 years that I had to protect the city by myself! But don’t worry, there’s more where that came from! You’ve become weak, Gosha!’
Yafya lashed out at Gosha once more, but the target managed to grab him by his fist, holding it tight between his two hands. His grip soon turned gentle, however.
‘Time out’ Gosha said as he reached for a bottle of antiseptic solution on the coffee table. He sprayed the horse’s hand and then proceeded to wipe it with an antiseptic solution. Incredibly, all in the middle of the now trashed living room.
‘Are you seriously disinfecting my hand right now?’ Yafya asked, still annoyed, but surprised.
‘What do you mean? I’m pretty sure you touched my poison’ Gosha replied innocently.
‘Don’t go acting like a family animal on me!’
‘Come on, a Beastar needs a good fist to fight with, doesn’t he?’ Gosha raised his voice in worry before adding ‘It’s actually harmless as long as it’s not in your mucus membrane, but just to be safe… You see, I’m still the same monster…’ he sighed.
There was an awkward moment of silence lingering in the air, Gosha still holding Yafya’s hand. An air freshener went off in one of the corners, filling the air with jasmine scent. Yafya looked around for the source of the sound then rolled his eyes.
‘Now that your hand is pretty much disinfected, are you going to hit me again?’ Gosha asked.
‘No, no I won’t’ Yafya replied, still somewhat annoyed. ‘I attacked you out of anger but really, I just wanted to know how strong you are right now… You know, you haven’t gotten as weak as I thought you would, but you have certainly mellowed down some. I heard you took down a group of thugs recently so I thought you would be interested in fighting with me again?’
‘Oh, I was just protecting my grandson’ Gosha replied with a smile on his face. ‘I’m not going to fight for anything other than my family. I’m too old for that anyway.’
Yafya flapped his ears in annoyance when he saw he had no chance to rekindle the light for their fighting duo. As Gosha began to clean up, he took a moment to look around and take a look at the family pictures. His eyes landed on one where Gosha and his grandson were eating ice cream on the beach. Just the two of them. Suddenly it hit him.
‘Is your grandson resistant to Komodo dragon poison?’ Yafya asked.
‘Yeah, he is. He’s also just as big as me. He looks like a normal grey wolf though.’
‘What’s his name?’
‘Legoshi. You seem to be pretty interested in him.’
With the determination to have a fighting comrade he asked ‘Is he strong?’
‘What?’ Gosha asked in confusion?
‘Is Legoshi strong?’
‘Well, yeah, I suppose he is…?’
With the possessing of the information he needed, Yafya turned around and looked for the exit.
‘Thank you for your time. I must go now. Justice needs me. You know where to find me, right?’ he said.
‘I really don’t…’ Gosha said. Yafya froze for a moment before rolling his eyes and then silently giving Gosha a business card with the address of his office.
‘I’ll see you around.’ With that, Yafya drove back to his office to master his plan, leaving Gosha to clean up the mess alone, and not suspecting anything. Just like the way Yafya liked.

Beastars
This is the first manga I’ve ever read, and I loved it. The world-building is so interesting, that I’ve been thinking about all the minutia for weeks.
Like how do celebrities, besides the Beastar, play into all of this? Has the media ever criticized a carnivore singer who made controversial music about how eating meat is cool, and how it’s problematic for young carnivores to listen to? What about a herbivore director who makes speciest movies about carnivores?
Is Legosi jealous of Gouhin because he basically has the best of both worlds? He gets to have a strong carnivore body and has little to no meat cravings due to his body allowing him to sustain himself on a bamboo diet.
Do omnivores even exist in their world? Bears, hippos, and pigs are classified as omnivores, but the manga classifies them as carnivores.
Lizards are some of the few animals that can regrow their tails after it’s cut off, so could a lizard make a living selling their severed tails as meat to the black market? If a carnivore ate the tail of a lizard, would that still count as predation?
We've seen carnivores getting cosmetic surgery to look like herbivores like that mayor, but what about an herbivore getting cosmetic surgery to look like a carnivore? I want to see a sheep getting their teeth sharped, fang implants, or sharp acrylic nails so they can defend themselves like a carnivore. The closest we have so far to seeing a herbivore who acts like a carnivore is Kyuu. Why aren't there more herbivores taking up martial arts? Especially the ones who live in the city.
Society admires same species couples, but how do they see couples who aren’t technically the same species but are relatively close enough? How does society see a cougar dating a lion, a crocodile with an alligator, a mouse with a hamster, or a seagull with a goose?
What about a falcon dating a pigeon? Even though they’re both birds, one is still a carnivore, and the other is an herbivore. How are different types of mixed-species animals viewed by society?
Gosha didn’t give too many details on what kind of mixed kids were at the daycare he volunteered at, and Melon and Leano were the only flushed out half and half mixed animals we knew. They were also extreme cases. But what about soft mixed species like a komodo dragon and venomous snake hybrid?
If Yafya hates carnivore criminals enough to turn them into fertilizer for his carrots, why hasn’t he made any laws that force any carnivores that commit predation to have their claws and fangs permanently removed? Or have all carnivores wear obedience collars that shock them when their adrenaline is too high? Kinda like the original idea of Zootopia.
Why haven’t scientists made a pill that suppresses venom and poison, or for that matter, carnivore impulses in general like the muscle restraining pills that Riz took?
How exactly does society see “domesticated” cats and dogs? They’re technically carnivores, but a dog is drastically different from a wolf/coyote/fox. Jack doesn’t get too much attention, but from what we’ve seen, not many herbivores seem to be as openly afraid of him as Legosi or his other roommates. Based on his flashback, other carnivores seem to idolize dogs for their intelligence and ability to get along with other animals more easily. When Jack has his meltdown in 153 he fears that a dog’s obedience and lack of emotion makes them prone to being used for evil things. So how does Jack feel about Collot? Does he fear him being potentially evil because he’s a dog too? Are sheepdogs different from other dogs? For that matter, are certain dog breeds stigmatized amongst the dog species like Pitbulls, Rottweilers, Dobermans, and Chow Chows? Also, how are dogs that are close to the wolf species treated by society like Alaskan malamutes, Akitas, and Huskies?

Waezi2′s thoughts on “Beast Complex” chapter 16.
I have to say that this chapter is just good compared to the rest of Beast Complex. I mean, it’s good. But it is only good.
Maybe because it feels like I already read it.
Tumblr media
Zaguan and Legosi meets an octopus when they are on their way home from the bathhouse. The octopus asks Zaguan for help since spotted seals are seen as an authority and as sea creatures of great wisdom. Some land creature apparently kidnapped her daughter and she asks Zaguan to look for her. The good natured seal naturally agrees to do so and Legosi offers to help as well.
They manage to find the octopus’ daughter...
Tumblr media
But it’s too late.
Remember when the whale told Yafya that land creatures could eat sea animals? I think it is a nice detail that this chapter of Beast Complex shows us that there comes a new problem with it being legal to eat sea creatures.
We COUDL assume this was a black marked thing, but the way this goat just walks around with the food wagon either means that what he does is completely legal or that it is socially accepted to eat fish so no one cares how he got the tasty octopus.
Legosi is horrified by this(and disturbed by how amazing the smell is), but Zaguan is calm and does what he thinks is the most appropriate thing to do.
Tumblr media
He buys all of the grilled octopus from the goat and eat the whole lot.
Eating another animal is not just a criminal offence in the world of Beastars, it is also seen as the lowest thing you could possibly do... unless you are a sea creature.
Marine animals are all about naturalism. they don’t use clothes and they eat each other if they are hungry. It’s not seen as something horrifying that a shark eats fish, it is what it is. Death is just an everyday thing in the sea world.
But there are still certain behaviors expected. Like when Legosi was about to get eaten by a shark. When he spoke sea language to the shark, the shark then decided that it would be impolite to let a land animal who knew his tongue suffer more than necessary, so he promised to eat him quickly. and here we see that Zaguan feels like that the right thing to do is to eat the octopus himself. His argument is that the mother will most likely feel better about a seal eating her than some random landlubber. It makes sense since that would mean that the dead octopus was eaten respectfully and not just half eaten and then thrown out. And Zaguan is a seal, so the octopus meat serves as nutrition for an important sage-like creature of the sea.
Tumblr media
The octopus mother is grateful, just like Zaguan assumed she would be, and she invites both the seal and the wolf to attend the funeral. We get some more world lore as we see that a funeral for sea animals is held with a lot of lanterns turned on. The funerals at sea are about celebrating the marine food cycle since the death of a marine animal means that it has served as food for someone else. The lanterns are suppose to produce light for planktons that is the start of said food cycle.
So it makes even more sense that the right thing to do was for Zaguan to eat the octopus so she would serve the sea food chain.
So, as I said, this was a good chapter. But my problem with it is that it doesn’t provide me with something new about this world of animals on two legs. But it was very enjoyable nonetheless.

701 Polycule, meting the kids.
Ten years after chapter seven.
“So what do you think the big announcement is Gosha? Voss was positively jubilant when he invited me over.” Roxanne, Voss’s mother said from her perch upon Gosha’s left shoulder as they walked up to their son’s house.
“Frankly I have no idea really, but Legoshi was similar when he rang me up.” Gosha replied thoughtfully. And it was true, the quiet excitement in his grandson’s voice when he rang him up two days ago and invited him to visit had Gosha hopeful despite the recent media speculation.
Durham had announced he was taking a break from rugby at all levels after the World Cup in three months time, launching a rush of speculation amongst sports journalists. There had even been one reporter who visited the hybrid daycare he still volunteered at despite his retirement asking if as the grandfather of one of the coyote’s partners he knew the cause. Miguno had announced he was taking a break from touring for the next year. Something big was happening with Legoshi’s partners.
He knew that all of the other parents had been invited, though Jack’s were on holiday on a Caribbean cruise. Miguno’s were travelling down from Hokkaido and would likely be arriving later today and Collot’s were visiting his relatives in Ireland. So whatever it was, it affected all of their boys.
“Well hopefully it’s good news, maybe Jack’s had another breakthrough?” The fennic fox said as Gosha rang the doorbell of the large townhouse that was the abode of their son’s polycule.
It was possibility, Jack’s work in chemistry had led to him becoming a minor celebrity in scientific circles, having developed a new form of strength reducers and a venom neutralisers that did not have the harmful side effects that plagued earlier ones. Though Gosha could not for the life of him remember just what Legoshi’s golden partner was working on last time he’d talked to him.
“Possibly, though why would he have wanted us to know before the public announcements?”  he replied, checking his watch.
“Got me there, as long as it’s good news I’m happy.” Roxanne admitted.
After a few more moments they heard footsteps behind the door and it then opened, revealing Jack with Voss sat on his head. Both looked tired but happy. Jack’s plaid shirt was only half tucked in and his rectangular glasses slightly askew. Voss’s mint green turtle neck was rumpled and his circular glasses also askew. There was also the smell of Komodo dragon and some kind of wolf, not Legoshi though. Normally all of the boys would greet him whenever he visited. Just what was going on?
“Gosha! Roxanne! Come in, come in! was the drive over good?” Jack excitedly said, as he stepped as to allow Gosha in, Voss jumping across to join his mother on his shoulder, hugging her.
“Quite pleasant actually, but you do have us both wandering just what is going on boys.” Gosha replied, smiling as Jack beamed in response. Seriously just how did the Labrador practically glow like that?
“You both may want to sit down first, and before either of the you say anything we have all discussed and thought about this properly, even if Goshi had his mind made up as soon as he heard of them.” Jack said as he led them into the living room. Gosha had to admit he was slightly concerned but both Jack and Voss appeared happy and excited.
Sitting down on the sofa, Gosha relaxed as Jack began to our tea from a pot that had been on the coffee table when they came in as Voss sat cross legged on the table whilst Roxanne sat next to Gosha.
“You remember that hyper drug ring bust Tem and Juno made last month?” Voss asked as Jack handed Gosha and Roxanne a cup each, both with milk and sugar added to each of their tastes. Out of the pack Jack was certainly the best tea maker. And Gosha nodded, he’d kept an eye on the pair’s careers ever since they had replaced Yafya as Beastar. To all reports they had managed to behead the hyper drug in one blow with that raid.
Voss accepted a mug from Jack who sat down in one of the large plush armchairs in the room, sipping his own tea. Taking a sip, the fennic continued, his voice hollow. “It was bad. Both of them came over the night after.. they didn’t give us all details but.. It was a factory for both hyper drugs and livestock. Carnivores, herbivores, omnivores, pretty much every species was there in some form. Mostly children. Many didn’t survive. Many had already been partially harvested or mutilated as to be easier to keep. They reckon there were hundreds of kids.”
Gosha felt his jaw open in horror. He knew both trades especially the hyper drug one had flourished under Yafya, the latter even encouraged and patronised by the fallen Beastar. But to think it had gotten that bad.. dear Rex.
Sipping at his tea, Voss continued, his voice tight. “Tem’s decided he is going to retire once he and Juno have finished cleaning up the worst of Yafya’s legacy, so about a year most likely. Wants to spend more time with mini Voss. Can’t say I blame him after what he saw in that…. That hellhouse.”
That was one good thing Gosha supposed. Whilst Legoshi’s friend’s loved their son fiercely, Tem and Els’s careers meant more often then not Voss was babysat by various members of the old drama club circle or at his daycare. The nine year old hybrid was adorable, even if he had his fathers morbid sense of humour and mother’s love for big cats, having befriended every feline hybrid at the daycare.
“There.. there were Komodo dragons there Gosha. About a dozen of various ages. Most died shortly after rescue. But.. there were two kids, about three years old. Their venom glands had been harvested, Fizban’s vocal chords had been damaged whenever it was done so he is mute. There were also hybrids, most of the victims were hybrids it seems. There was one also three years old, a striped hyena maned wolf hybrid who’s tail was removed. Well you know what the adoption chances are like for those kind of kids.” Voss continued sadly.
It was true. All too many hybrid children would end up rotating through foster care usually, and it was even worse for his kind. But with their venom glands removed? Komodo dragon society would reject them utterly. He imagined a similar fate would befall the hyena wolf hybrid considering the importance of tails in canine communication. It then clicked.
“Wait, you don’t mean?” He asked, Jack and Voss both beamed.
“Yes, we have adopted them. Don’t look surprised you both know how broody Legoshi and Durham have gotten ever since Kibi and Tao had the twins. Yes it won’t be easy but I like to think between the six of us we will be able to manage.” Jack said seriously though the smile he gave Gosha and Voss made his heart soar.
Well, that certainly explained Miguno and Durham’s decisions. Whilst a possibility Gosha had to admit he’d just sort of subconsciously assumed there wouldn’t be any great grandchildren for him.
“That is wonderful, but you boys do realise that they will be traumatised? I will always support you Vossy but I just want to check you know what you are getting into.” Roxanne said warmly.
Voss nodded, putting down his tea cup smiled as he replied. “We know don’t worry. We’ve made arrangements for therapy for all of them and been researching everything we can about how we can support them. The big guys have already pretty much fallen for them.” The fennic said warmly, standing up and hoping over to Jack, climbing up to the Labrador’s shoulder.
Standing up and grinning, Jack beamed at Gosha and Roxanne, excitedly asking them. “Would you like to meet our kids then?”
-- Stepping into the large conservatory that overlooked the large garden, Gosha couldn’t help but smile at the sight, Roxanne letting out a little coo from her perch on his shoulder whilst Jack let out a quiet giggle whilst Voss pulled out his phone and took a picture of the sight in front of them.
On the sofa along the longest wall Legoshi, Durham and Collot slept, the coyote nestled between his larger partners, an arm of each over his shoulders. All three were asleep, and their clothes in a similar scruffy state to Jack and Voss’s, Legoshi’s square glasses had fallen to the tip of his snout, the arms dangling down. On Legoshi’s lap, gently held in one arm was a sleeping fluffy canine child, light orangish fur broken up by black hyena stripes where it was visible from the child’s bright blue dungarees. Wrapped in Durham’s arms, head buried in the rugby players neck was a tiny pale bluish grey Komodo dragon, a thin pale scar peaking out from the top of the child’s red shirt. Nestled in the crook of Collot’s arm was a dark sea green Komodo dragon in a yellow dress.
Gosha couldn’t help but think back to when he’d seen Toki in a similar state with Leano, or himself been in the situation with Leano or her son. A part of him wished they could see this, for they would have loved to see Legoshi so exhausted but also so clearly content.
“Gosha are you okay?” Jack asked quietly turning around to face him, concern clear in his voice.
Blinking, Gosha realised how wet his eyes had gotten. “Yes, I’m fine Jack. Just happy for Legoshi and wishing his mother could see this.” He admitted quietly.
“I.. I hope she would be happy with it. Collot is holding Susan, Durham’s got Fizban and Legoshi is holding Goshiro, they only had numbers before.” Jack said, his voice starting uncertain then turning warm as he named his children but a melancholy entering his voice at the end.
Gosha was about to respond when the sound of the front door loudly closing and half a swear in Miguno’s voice rang out.
All six dreamers blinked awake, Goshiro looking around revealing a lupine face with hyena eyes, gently tugging on Legoshi’s white turtleneck and giggling as the wolf’s glasses fell onto him. ---- So chapter I am working on, half a continuation of a one shot I did of the 701 dogs being in a polycule, half a prequel to the “I saw daddy kissing Santa Claus” short I posted earlier working with @nocturneneko’s idea of Bill/Louis being loving but not necessarily good parents. Not sure if it needs anymore at the end of if that is a good point to leave it.

Melon and Gosha as Foils
I’m just going to come right out and say it- I don’t think that hybrids in Beastars really do have instincts to harm other animals without eating them.
This does not necessarily mean Melon is lying about that- he may truly believe it. I think that it’s certainly safe to say that Melon experiences strong urges to harm and kill other animals but doesn’t really like eating them that much. However, I think this is just a personal issue he has. As I stated in my previous post, I don’t think that “feral instincts” in the Beastars world are really what they sound like- but instead that they’re post-war social constructs and traumas.
Similarly, I think that Melon’s “instincts” are born from trauma and social constructs. His violent aggression seems to have developed not from an innate tendency towards such behavior, but instead from years of mistreatment by everyone around him.The world treated Melon like a freak, he was half carnivore the world told him that carnivores naturally killed and ate herbivores, no one was ever kind to him except for his mother who eventually revealed that she’d eaten his father. Melon’s “instincts” seem to be created by his own resentment and anger instead of an innate genetic predisposition.
Tumblr media
If this was truly just an instinctual thing, he would likely have had some urge to kill random people earlier in his life instead of just people who had wronged him. Furthermore, in this particular panel, Melon does not immediately murder this kid- he does not want to risk upsetting his mother, and therefore seems to easily restrain himself, thinking it through and standing still.
Tumblr media
Here, when Melon ultimately does commit a murder, it can be reasonably said to be in self-defense. These classmates were attempting to force him to jump off the building- which likely would have killed him. The same can be said about the murder of his mother, who had just revealed that she ate his father and thought he looked delicious, which is super threatening. When he first burns her with the iron, it’s just out of anger, but he only kills her after a conversation in which she strongly implies she might like to eat him.
That being said, I’d like to be clear that this is not a Melon apologist post- many, many animals in Beastars face horrible trauma but do not proceed to go around doing a lot of murders because of it. In my opinion, the best narrative foil for Melon is Gosha, Legosi’s grandpa.
Tumblr media
As a komodo dragon, a large and poisonous lizard, Gosha has faced severe discrimination. He is denied service at restaurants, mocked and attacked by passerby, barred from marrying his beloved, called a monster even by his former partner, Yafya, and generally ostracized from society. He’s dealt with a lifetime of trauma- the loss of his friendship with Yafya, the death of Legosi’s grandmother, the suicide of his daughter (which he must have blamed himself for- after all, what led her to isolate and then kill herself was that she began to resemble him more), and his temporary abandonment by his grandson.
Tumblr media
As a carnivore, Gosha is expected to have instincts to kill and eat other animals. But does he do these things?
Tumblr media
No. What Gosha does with his lifetime of pain is to use it as fuel for kindness. He is a pacifist, never willing to resort to violence to defend himself but sometimes willing to resort to violence to protect those he loves or those who cannot protect themselves. He works hard to minimize any negative impact he could have on those around him, carrying around supplies to provide treatment to animals who may have been exposed to his venom. He visits a daycare for hybrid children and brings them gifts and kindness. Even after his grandson abandons him, he accepts him back without a second thought. Even after his old friend Yafya straight up physically attacks him, he welcomes him into his home and makes sure he isn’t hurt by his venom.
The existence of Gosha, and, to a lesser extent, the existence of kind-hearted carnivores in general, completely dismantles Melon’s claim that his behavior is natural and unavoidable, a result of his birth. Melon is making excuses, plain and simple- his actions, and their consequences, are his own.

Since there is no new chapter this week, let’s kill some time with pointless analyzing and speculation
Since we this last chapter we met Melon’s father let’s talk about him. More specifically let’s talk about how Yafya and the narrative refer to him as the “true evil”.
It’s obvious that he’s not meant to be the actual “true evil”, the title should be seen as more of a metaphor, he’s the “root” of Melon’s evil. The sequence of events is rather simple:
The father meets the mother -> they have a child -> the father leaves -> this greatly affects the mother -> who proceeds to cope in a way that greatly affects the child -> the child ends up with severe psychological and social issues.
This is not to say that the father is the sole responsible for Melon’s state, he is responsible for cowardly bailing on his family leaving Melon with certain abandonement issues and causing (or at least intensifying) the Mother’s unbalanced state of mind. But te mother still responsible for stablishing that “fairy-tale land” where Melon wasn’t able to properly expres his problems and of course the way he used him as a way to fill in the void left by the father, doing things that border, or are, sexual abuse. She wasn’t coherced to do any of that, she did it on her own volition, she choose to do that, and no framing of “the father run out on her” is going to absolve her of it.
In spite of their separation, Melon’s evil is just the “joint effort” of both his Mother and Father’s actions.
Now let’s talk a bit about the Father, as I find there is something weird about him. He looks so ridiculously ordinary it’s almost suspicious. Interestingly Yafya seems to find him suspicious too, to the point of wondering if he could attack them in some fashion.
While this is speculation it could be the case that Melon had “inherited” the ability to pretend to be harmless from his father. There could be an interesting paralelism between father and son, who both hide their worst traits under a mask of hervibore helplessness. One goes around pretending to be nothing but a simple gazelle that has nothing to do with the crimes, and the other goes aroun pretending that he’s but a foolish hervibore who didn’t know better, and thus people absolve them of their faults.

BEASTARS SPECULATION #5: Does Haru need to be Stronger? *May Contain Spoilers*
As this series gain widespread popularity and recognition with the help of the internet, many interesting things arise. Like they say, there can be no effect without a cause. One of these effects would be the reactions of western audiences. Let’s face it, we who are familiar with the series, know the basic monicers it has gained as the “anime-version of Zootopia”, “Japan’s take on furry-fandom” and my personal favorit, “the one with the BUNNY SCENE.”
One thing in particular that I have found interesting is the response to series main-ship: Legosi and Haru.
Tumblr media
While the general opinion is that they are adorable and should be together, a large portion of fans also find the ship to be a sinking one. As is common with many manga and anime, som doesn’t like it because they prefer other potential ships in the series (LegosiXJuno, HaruXLouis, LegosiXLouis, you name it). Others find their size-difference too distracting or feasibly impractical (which I honestly don’t get). But then there’s those who just seems to hate Haru as a character.
Quite simply, they don’t like her, or the idea of her and Legosi being together. The reasons for this are pretty clearcut: They think she is a slut who only has eyes for Louis and therefor doesn’t deserve someone like Legosi.
While I can understand some of these sentiments to a degree, I wonder at the same time if all of these negative feelings directed at her is kind of superficial. Some would argue that the criticism is biased on account of her gender; that a promiscious female love interest isn’t really as acceptable as a promiscious male love interest. As noted by Stephen A. Diamond:
- “It's fine for men to be sexually promiscuous. Even indiscriminate. Such sexual activity is often culturally encouraged and admired. But when women openly and aggressively express their sexuality like men, we tend to view them as mentally ill, promiscuous, sinful or evil vixens.” (Pyschology Today, 2011)
While I can’t deny that there is some fragment truth in that in there somewhere, I would be lying if I said I thought that was all there was to it. Seems like a bit of a over-simplification of the issue.
But honestly, I think the dislike for her is on account of her early appearences in the series, as portrayed right now by the anime. People who hasn’t read the manga probably base her on their first impressions, which are not really good most of the time. People find out from early on that she isn’t an atypical love-interest. She is not a saint, doesn’t view herself as much of a victim despite being bullied and is really quite blunt about people’s flaws, to the point where you understand why she is not well-liked by her peers.
It is true, she’s had sex with many male herbivores, which has wrecked a few relationships along the way. Besides being a reference to the notable, real-life sexual activities of rabbits, it goes a little deeper than that within the narrative, as the reason for her promiscuity is because having sex is the only way in which she feels in control. She is a dwarf-rabbit, which has led to her being pitied and looked down on all her life. Ergo, the underlying reason is not one of malice or insensitivity, but rather out of insecurity. This falls in line with the general, psychological view on sexual promiscuity. As stated by Diamond: “I would say it is likely that poor self-esteem and feelings of emptiness and inherent unlovability may very well have been a driving force in such behavior” (Psychology Today, 2011).
When it comes to Legosi, it’s a bit different though. At the beginning of the series she doesn’t really know where to place him, as he is quite different from any guy she has known so far. He doesn’t look down on her because she’s small, he turned down having sex with her despite the fact that she was aiming for it at their second encounter, and despite the fact that he is big and menacing-looking and was close to eating her in their first encounter, he is a very kind and gentle wolf. She is confused and intrigued, but doesn’t really view him in a romantic light at that point.
What complicates things at this time is her relationship with Louis. Out of her many sexual escapades, Louis may be the only one that she has formed a deeper attachement too, because he seemed to be as sad and lost as she felt at times. Despite this, she also kept Louis at an arm’s distance, probably out of fear for genuine affection. This is further illustrated when Legosi for the first time tries to confess his feelings to her; she holds her ears shut and runs off before he can make a full declaration, which also falls in line with the psychological aspects of promiscuity and Haru’s character: “it may well have served as an unconscious defense mechanism against authentic intimacy” (Psychology Today, 2011).
However, as I’ve stated before, this was at the beginning of the series. At this point she doesn’t really have any romantic feelings for Louis, and ever since she and Legosi promised themselves to each other, she hasn’t slept with anyone. So yes, she is taking her relationship with Legosi seriously, despite the relationship being bumpy and laced with danger.
With all these things in regard, we may understand why Haru is the way she is. But also feel obligated to ask a question that could concern the future of the series: Does she need to be stronger?
Looking at it from one perspective, one could say no, as her intelligence and strenght of character is quite strong as it is, and a nice complimentary to the less confident and introverted Legosi. She has brought alot out of him already, and she has continued to bring out his inner strenghts in a way that nobody else can.
On the other side, one could argue that in the story so far, Legosi is doing all the heavy lifting in order for them to be together. He dropped out of school, is covered in scars, ripped out his own fangs and is basically forced to work for Yafya in order to be allowed to marry her... All the while Haru is just coninuing her studies at the university.
I am not saying she isn’t prepared for hardships, as she has survived years of bullying, stood defiant in the moment when she thought she was about to die and has even demanded that Legosi brings her to the black alley market (where carnivores engage in the illegal consumation of meat from herbivores) to see with her own eyes what that part of the world looks like.
Though I wonder, what kind of sacrifices will she make for Legosi, in the same vein that Legosi is making for her? Legosi is usually the one who protects her, but what will happen the day when SHE needs to protect him?
While the manga is far from over and the anime is just beginning, I think this is something that will have to be adressed at some point down the line. She is the source of Legosi’s strenght, true, but does that go both ways?
Anyway, that’s what I think. How about you?

The Fall: a Gosha x Yafya fic Chapter 1 (title may change)
Rage rumbled inside him, coursing through his veins giving him strength. And he needed that strength, after all he was 54 years old and climbing the city police building. It was a dark night and the coat he was wearing made him blend into the dark walls of the building. He stopped in floor 56 just one shot of his destination to take a shot break. Dark cloud covered the building at this height and it was cold, too cold for his cold blooded body to feel comfortable, but his coat made a good job protecting him.
He took an old photograph from his pocket and stared at it intently. It was taken 36 years ago at another police station. It was from a happier time in his life, the second happiest in fact. The time when Yafya and him where trying to change the world, make it a better place. Yafya was his best friend and he still considered Yafya his best friend even if Yafya had stopped seeing him that way long ago. They were so happy. Always together looking for each other, covering each other backs. He threw the photograph into the air, letting the wind carry it off and proceed to climb the last bit of the wall to floor 57 the penthouse.
Clouds completely surrounded the building at this height like a thick fog illuminated by the city bellow. He crouched outside of a window, surrounded by the clouds well out of sight. His rage urged him to go inside breaking the window and everything in his way but he contained the impulse. He might be old but he was not stupid and he had way too much experience fighting to just go inside without checking the situation inside. He took off his coat that would be a disadvantage during a fight, freeing his tail. He stretched it while peeking into the luxurious penthouse. He had managed to get intel about the building from Legosi but still seeing the inside was shocking… but not as what has happened to his nephew. Remembering him hurt, bloodied, he had claimed that he was ok but he was his only family god damn it… rage almost overcame him but he barely managed to keep it controlled. His opponent was way too dangerous to go in blindly. He peeked inside again, the creepy carrot farm was there as well as the dinner table in which you could see him sitting, having a luxurious meal, Yafya was sitting there, his friend, the one who did that to his nephew, his prey this night.
He took a minute to regain himself and carefully opened the window. -I was expecting you Gosha- said Yafya from the table without even looking back –please take a seat- Gosha closed the window behind him and took a seat at the other end of the table, staring intently at who is, was, his best friend… The one he had come to kill tonight.
so dramatic... I love it

Yuletide 2019 Letter
Dear creator,
Thank you for taking your time to check my requests. I know my requests can sound a bit tricky, but please don’t be discouraged. I wish you will have good time writing first and foremost!
My AO3 is Tren, if you wish to check it out.
Likes: comedy, casefics, canon compliants, AUs, time loops, bodyswaps, roleswaps, “being hoisted by your own petard” plotlines, snark, pettiness, rivals, enemies to friends to lovers, violence, friendships and character bonding,
DNW: explicit sex, A/B/O, mpreg, rape depicted as positive (so no “it’s okay, because the other person enjoyed it/it was what they truly wanted”), trans headcanons, soulmate AUs, stories ending with surrender to fate/destiny, fourth wall breaking in canons where that doesn’t occur, word “queerplatonic”.
Also, I included what ships I’m okay with in each fandom. Please do not include any ships that aren’t canon and I have not allowed in those sections (if you feel really strongly about a ship, you can ask through mods just in case, if I didn’t include my opinion on it).
Additionally, while I almost never request fanart as possible medium, because I prefer my main gift to be fic, I would be very okay with receiving fanart treats.
                                                REQUESTS
MACHIKADO MAZOKU | THE DEMON GIRL NEXT DOOR
I have only watched the anime adaptation.
Momo Chiyoda, Yuuko Yoshida
I almost missed this hidden comedic gem of summer season. It was such a great mix of hilarious comedy and heartwarming character interactions I ended up loving it.
I want to see more misadventures of Momo and Yuuko. Whether it be their training Yuuko's training or Yuuko making sure that Momo actually eats proper meals. If you want to include other characters I'm definitely up to it. I would also love to see Momo interacting more with Yuuko's sister and lying through her teeth about being part of Yuuko's army of darkness. Or more dream invading shenanigans with Yuuko accidentally helping Momo's mental state. I would also love to see more of Ancestor's evil sheming going absolutely nowhere, because Yuuko is too much of a good person, or rather demon. I would also love an outsider's POV of a random magical girl who comes to the city to check up the situation and gets caught in Momo's and Mikan's frantic attempts to hide the true state of affairs.
AUs and ships
I'd rather not get setting changes for this AU, as I love the demons and magical girls setup of the story. That being said I would love any divergence. Maybe Momo fell for it and agreed to join Momo's side at the end of the story. What if Yuuko's sister suddenly awakened to magical girl powers? Or maybe Yuuko and Momo end up bodyswapping due to some magical accident.
I definitely ship Momo and Yuuko, but I also love the natural domesticity they have in the series even though neither of them really considers romance. So if you want to go into romance, whether you give them a chance to confess their feelings or write a pre-relationship story will make me happy.
DORORO (ANIME 2019)
Hyakkimaru
I love the whole idea of someone’s sense and body parts being stolen with them. The process of Hyakkimaru regaining his body parts is fascinating and the main draw for me. You don’t have to concentrate on this aspect, but just a few mentions will go a long way for me.
I would love some sort of youkai of the week story. Hyakkimaru and Dororo having to figure out how to find it. Bonus points if Hyakkimaru’s newly regained senses become an asset/inconvenience when facing the youkai.
I asked for Hyakkimaru, because he is tied to the aspect of the story most interesting to me, but I’m okay with fic not focusing on him, especially for some of AU suggestions bellow.
AUs and ships
The “regaining body parts and senses” plotline is such a huge draw for me, I’m not big on any AUs that change the setting (unless you can somehow incorporate that aspect). Also I love how much the show commits to the gruesome warring states aesthetic, so I would definitely love to see more of that.
However, I’m all for canon divergences or roleswaps. Like messing around with the order in which Hyakkimaru got his senses back. Or a roleswap AU where it’s Mio who is cursed and killing demons. Or Mio somehow surviving the attack, which results in Dororo and Hyakkimaru desperately trying to keep her alive despite the wounds she sustained. Or a bodyswap between two characters with Hyakkimaru being extra overwhelmed by suddenly having all senses and limbs, and the other character struggling to navigate his half-complete body.
I have no strong ship preferences here. I’m okay with Hyakkimaru/Mio, but if you have a strong preference for some other ship I probably won’t mind (just don’t make it the focus of the fic). I would prefer Hyakkimaru and Dororo’s relationship to remain platonic, though.
ビースターズ | BEASTARS
I’m reading the manga chapters as they come out, so don’t worry about spoiling anything for me or incorporating new developments.
Legosi
He’s beauty, he’s grace, he’s a teenage grey wolf with a lot on his plate.
I love Legosi as a character. He has great interactions with literally everybody and keeps getting himself in a lot of trouble without even trying. I would love watching how he bounces off other characters. I would especially love a case fic. I really enjoyed his investigation of Tem’s death and would love to see him solving other crimes/problems. Whether it be Rokume asking Legosi for help with yet another investigation, Yafya pushing him into doing something or Louis just grabbing him out of the street, because he needs a trusted person to help him find the truth, all those scenarios would be great. I would especially love, if someone was helping Legosi bounce off the ideas. I’m not picky about who it is, chose whichever character you like. Whether it be Louis, Haru, any classmate, theater member, Rokume or Legosi’s grandpa, they are all valid choices.
If investigation is not really your cup of tea, you can go for some other adventure. Maybe some story from when Legosi was working part-time for Gouhin? Or Legosi’s struggle with drama club stuff. Maybe an AU where Legosi ends up having to be an actor in some different circumstances?
AUs and ships
Setting influences the characters so much I can’t even imagine divorcing them from it. However, I don’t mind any Canon Divergences.
I’m okay with pretty much any ship for Legosi, other than shipping him with his family.
SPY X FAMILY
I'm reading the chapters as they come out, you are free to incorporate any new developments.
Yuri Briar
Look I was sceptic about Yuri when he got first introduced, but then I saw the utter mess he became in the presence of his sister and her husband, and just feel in love with how bad he was at feelings. Between his blind adoration for his sister and his love-hate for Lloyd, he's just an entertaining mess.
I would love more shenanigans with him. Maybe he starts stalking their house in free time to make sure his sister is okay and Anya notices him, because he is thinking so loudly she can't do her homework. Or he follows Yoru and Lloyd on date and agonizes over how lovey-dovey they appear to him. Or both Yoru and Lloyd have assignments to take care off and are forced to ask Yuri to babysit Anya. I would enjoy seeing him interact with anyone in the Forger family, whether it be Yoru, Lloyd or Anya.
AUs and ships
I don't mind setting changes, but would want the relationship between the characters to remain similar in nature to the canon one. On that note I don't have much AU suggestions for this. The canon setting and relationships are interesting enough that I don't really see how they could be improved, but hey if you have an idea go for it.
As for ships, while Lloyd and Yoru are always a valid ship, I do have a weakness for younger brother characters having a love-hate relationship with their sister's boyfriend. Which is why if you want to include Yuri having one-sided feelings for Lloyd, a suggested threesome or something like that go for it. My only request is to make sure Anya won't be miserable with whatever outcome you chose.
少女☆歌劇 レヴュースタァライト -Re LIVE- | Shoujo Kageki Revue Starlight -Re LIVE-
I'm playing on global server, but I don't mind being spoiled for stuff from japanese one. Just take into account I'm not following what happens there.
Tsuruhime Yachiyo
Yachiyo stole my heart from the moment I saw her. I love the cool and mysterious air she cultivates around herself. How she is very outspoken, but at the same time knows exactly how to keep secrets. She's the type of character I enjoy a lot and would love to see even more of her. I enjoy the relationships she has with other Edels and her unexpected friendship with Mahiru. But if you also want to show her interacting with other characters I would be fine with it. As per canon I would love all things theater. I love the discussion about the plays and character's constant drive to improve. I would enjoy some glimpses into the preparations for "Elysion", since I find it fascinating and it was what helped to bring the current Edels truly together as a team. But any other play canon or not is a fair game. I also really loved Sherlock Holmes one.
AUs and ships
I'd rather receive no setting changes for this canon, as I love the theater shenaningans this canon offers. However, I don't mind some canon divergences or other type of stuff. Maybe Yachiyo ends up going to a different school? What if she went to Seisho instead and got caught up in the Banana's time-loop shenanigans (I know she's technically a year younger, but well this is an AU corner, so no reason to sweat small details)? Roleswap could also be interesting with Yachiyo being the head of Edels who everyone look up to while Akira and Michiru are the first years instead.
As for the ships I'd rather Michiru wasn't in relationship with anyone. I'm okay with hints or mentions of her and Akira being a thing in the past, but I'd rather it wasn't a present thing. Other than that I don't have any strong preferences, so you are free. However, to give an example here are some potential ships with Yachiyo I would love:
- Yachiyo/Akira - I loved them as a two romantic leads of "Elysion" and even if canon won't give me anything more to go by I will ship it. I also think Yachhiyo is the most likely to see through Akira and accept her for who she is. After all she too is keeping a mask over her true feelings.
- Yachiyo/Shiori - Yachiyo is very supportive of Shiori, I feel like the two of them could really make it work. They both respect each other and work hard together.
- Yachiyo/Mahiru - Arsene and Moriarty! I loved their little stunt together and it really felt like the two of them found a common ground during the Sherlock event. I love their friendship, but I would certainly enjoy seeing them get together, too.

Chapter 54 – A Crack In History
After another day of saving the city from criminals, Yafya decided to pay one of his mistresses a visit. After a gourmet dinner and a couple glasses of Merlot, they decided to take things somewhere more private, where they spent the night together.
It was still pitch black when Yafya got up to get dressed. As he was fumbling around with his pants, he woke his mistress, who sat up in bed, rubbing her eyes.
‘You’re leaving already?’ she asked.
‘It’s time for work. But you should get back to sleep’ Yafya replied.
‘I see’ the mistress said while he scooched over to Yafya. ‘But before you go, I have a question for you.’
‘Go ahead.’
‘What is it exactly that you like about me?’ she asked as she started to caress the back of the Sublime Beastar.
‘Well, a lot of things really. Your short and beautiful fur, your strong legs and well-developed muscles and also, the beautiful way you run.’
‘Hold on a minute. How does that make me special from any of the other horses?’ the mistress furrowed her brows. Yafya chuckled.
‘Same species love is the symbol of peace. Thank you for your time.’
Yafya closed the door and started walking to his office. He didn’t like to take the public transport because everyone was staring at him – either in awe if they knew who he was, or in terror because of his blindfold.
‘A Beastar is ought to be alone’ he thought on his way. ‘Interspecial love… Heterosexual love… It’s normal for animals to be attracted to those who are different from them… But being devoted leads to utter disaster. A leader should never deal with such distractions. That’s something I etched into my heart a long time ago…’
36 YEARS EARLIER
‘Thanks to your duties these past six months, the district’s crime rate dropped by 40%!’ a baboon police officer said proudly.
Before him stood Yafya and a Komodo dragon, called Gosha, who was two years older than Yafya himself, being 17 and 15 respectively.
‘I wonder which one of you will become the next Beastar!’ the officer continued as he patted the boys on their shoulders. ‘After all, you’re both young aspirants. I hope the two of you will continue protecting the townsfolk and continue to be rivals for the Beastar title. But only friendly rivals, boys. Understood?’
‘Yes, sir’ the boys nodded in discipline.
After leaving the station, Yafya and Gosha hopped on to Yafya’s motorcycle and drove away into the night. As they were crossing the Gazura Bridge, Gosha reached into his pocket.
‘Hey, do you still have your medal he gave you?’ he asked.
‘Yeah, I do.’ Yafya replied. ‘Same thing as usual?’ he asked.
‘You bet!’ Gosha said and together, they threw the medals away.
The reason for such a surprising act was quite simple. The two were not competing for the Beastar title. They were partners who wanted to become the “Beastars”.
‘Who does that guy think he is to call us rivals?’ Yafya laughed. ‘We’re partners and we’ll stay that way forever. Right?’ he looked at Gosha.
Gosha didn’t say anything, he just smiled and nodded, the moonlight reflecting on his scales. As most of the reptiles, he didn’t speak much, but his eyes were always filled with genuine strength and emotion. Yafya liked those eyes… among many other things.
‘How about some more patrolling?’ Gosha asked as he suddenly stood up.
‘But it’s three in the morning! Do you even sleep!?’ Yafya asked.
‘Busy lives and bad sleep go hand in hand’ Gosha replied.
Yafya admired his friend for always being ready for duty, but he was also worried for him. He knew that things at home weren’t all sunshine and happiness for his friend, but he could never imagine that things were so difficult that he didn’t even want to go home.
‘I wonder if he’s ever going to tell me about his past’ he thought as they sat on the motorcycle.
It turned out that Gosha’s urge to patrol some more was the good thing to do. As they were driving around alleyways, they suddenly heard a drunk cackling from one of them.
‘You’ll make a nice fur coat!’ the voice said. ‘I’ll start by pulling out your fangs so you can’t bite me!’
Yafya and Gosha got off the bike and carefully walked towards the voice, who turned out to be a male hippopotamus, about twice their size combined.
‘Behind you!’ they heard another voice, but it was already too late for the hippo. Yafya went in with a kick to the head, pulling his arms back after he was in a daze, while Gosha took some of his poison from his poison glands and swept it along the hippo’s tongue, putting him into a coma. This was standard procedure for the boys then. While seemingly dangerous, Gosha’s poison only knocked out their opponents for a few hours.
When they looked around for the other voice, they saw a female wolf, sitting in silence on the floor.
‘Thank you’ she said nervously.
The boys helped her stand up and walked back to the main street with her.
‘There’s been a strong cold wave for three to four years now, motivating a lot of animals to pelt longhair animals like yourself. For a female wolf like you, walking around alone in the night is basically suicide’ Yafya scolded the wolf.
‘I see’ the wolf sighed. ‘So, I was about to become a fur coat then, huh?’
‘She doesn’t seem to be the brightest bulb…’ Yafya thought.
After some time, they got to an intersection, where they usually met and parted ways every day.
‘It seems that her house is relatively close to mine’ Gosha said. ‘I’ll walk her home.’
‘You do that. See you tomorrow’ Yafya said.
Gosha couldn’t help but notice the wolf staring at him from the corner of his eyes.
‘Why are you staring at me like that?’ Gosha asked the wolf.
‘Oh, I’m sorry’ she said, turning her head away. ‘It’s just that I don’t have any reptile friends, and this is the first time, I’ve ever seen one up close. Couldn’t help myself.’
‘I knew it was because of my weird looks…’ Gosha thought.
‘Well, if you must know, Komodo dragons have poison in their mouths and also in our bodies, hidden under our scales…’ Gosha explained on their way to the wolf’s house. ‘To you mammals, we must seem like a bunch of monsters…’
The wolf suddenly stopped and grabbed Gosha’s hand.
‘But your scales are beautiful’ she said. ‘They look like jewels, especially with the moon reflecting on them!’
They were finally at the wolf’s home where they said their goodbyes. Gosha left as soon as the wolf closed her door.
‘Don’t get carried away, she was just complimenting you. She probably didn’t even mean it. Females are dangerous with their compliments!’ Gosha thought, trying his best to keep himself from any unwanted emotions. ‘Then again, she was wagging her tail the whole time…’
A few months later, Yafya and Gosha were standing on the Gazura Bridge, looking at the ships coming and going.
‘So, you actually started dating her’ Yafya said. ‘Well, a Komodo dragon and a wolf is probably the most incredible interspecial couple I’ve ever heard of… Do you have good chemistry with her?’
‘If I didn’t, I wouldn’t have been dating her for the past six months’ Gosha said, almost coldly.
‘Six months!? And you kept that a secret from me!?’ Yafya thought. He was disappointed in his friend. They always shared everything with each other.
‘Well, they say that interspecial love is something you should enjoy while you’re still young, so I suppose this is fine… Anyway, what did you want to tell me?’
Gosha gulped.
‘She… She’s pregnant. And the baby is mine…’
Yafya’s eyes widened at the news. He didn’t exactly know how to react. Having a baby at such a young age without any jobs or background was one thing, but to have unprotected sex as a venomous animal with someone who was of another species was something else.
‘Whose baby!?’ Yafya yelled out.
‘Mine’ Gosha said calmly.
‘But Komodo dragons lay eggs! How is this even possible.
‘The doctor said it was basically a miracle. He said it was about a 1 in 500 chance… Toki is really happy about it. I must support her’ Gosha said with determination in his eyes.
‘But it’s dangerous for her to conceive. Don’t you understand? It’s lucky you didn’t kill her during sex! What if something goes wrong!? You’re not even in the position where you can just start a family!’ A tear rolled down Yafya’s face. ‘I thought we were going to become Beastars together. Protectors of the society’ he said with childlike innocence and heartbreak in his voice.
‘I’m stepping down… I did want us to become Beastars so we could fight for peace and co-existence… But I found co-existence with someone who I treasure more than society…’
‘Don’t you dare say it…’
‘This is where we part ways…’
PRESENT DAYS
Yafya and Gosha haven’t spoken to each other since then. Gosha tried to reach out to his friend multiple times, but Yafya was simply heartbroken. Their partnership meant more to him than just friendship… He was looking up to Gosha… He admired him… And, while he didn’t want to admit it at the time, he had feelings for him.
Now as someone, who spent most of his life without friends or family, he was sitting on top of the society as Sublime Beastar… alone.
When he got to his office, he immediately pulled out the document about the predatory offender to take a closer look at him.
‘Slanted eyes and drooping eyebrows… Your grandson maybe a different species but he sure looks like you, Gosha… I think I’ll have some fun with him… Just for old times’ sake…’

Chapter 196 is as close as we get to a happy ending
Most of us feared the worst. Few were way to optimistic. So... was chapter 196 a somewhat happy ending?
Kinda:)
So, Haru and Legosi are gonna get married... for better or worse.
Tumblr media
We are presented to an issue we have not considered before: The amount of stress Haru has to suffer from being with Legosi who is a wolf as well as... well, LEGOSI! So even if Legosi can keep himself from eating Haru, she has to suffer a lot of stress, something that is not healthy for smaller animals. Seriously, some animals can actually die of being in a way too stressful situation. And a cop sees them hug and assumes right away that Legosi is trying to attack Haru. That will most likely never change. But they love each other very much and will face a difficult future together.
Tumblr media
Gouhin is now working in an actual hospital. His job is not exactly without risks, but it is a heck lot safer than being the vigilante shrink of the BAM, and he deserves to have a more relaxed life after all the shit he has gone through.
Tumblr media
Cherryton has interspecies education again, important for the future of herbivore/carnivore relationships in the future.
Tumblr media
Yafya stepped down from the position as Sublime Beastar, but is still fighting crime as a vigilante.
Some thought it was weird that Yafya would retire if he intended to keep doing what he always did. But here is the thing... Yafya has realized that he is a very flawed creature and has only recently done things to try and make the relationships between meat and plant eaters more relaxed. So he doesn’t think he deserves the privileges, wealth and power he gets as the unofficial ruler of animal society. But he can still do his part in improving society on his own with help from the rats. Hopefully in a less prejudice and harsh manner.
Tumblr media
The lion mobsters are in the slammer right now. But they will get out eventually and get actual jobs in Louis’ company(most likely very well-paid jobs). Sure, it sucks that the ONE THING they got arrested for was “kidnapping” Louis, but it could be far worse AND their future looks rather bright.
Tumblr media
Louis married a female he doesn’t love for the sake of business. But he still intend to try and make the relationship work in a way so it is not all business. Azuki is his wife now, but she can also be his companion. They may never get to actually love each other, but they can appreciate and care for each other. I think it is great that Louis makes an effort to make their relationship as... “friendly” as possible.
So this is a pretty nice ending all things considered:)

A closer look at some Beastars characters' philosophies
(I won’t get into characters such as Legosi, Haru or Louis since I already talked a lot about their philosophy AND how said philosophies have evolved.)
Juno:
Tumblr media
Juno loves being a carnivore and takes pride in her strength and beauty that are the trademarks of a wolf. She is well-aware how hated her species is and she aims at becoming a Beastar(an elite in society) so she can spread her message about carnivore pride. She dislikes herbivores and is polite and friendly to them for the sake of her good reputation, and she is alright with the idea of segregation, believing it is in everyone’s interest.
So Juno is into egotism, meaning the theory that one's self is, or should be, the motivation and the goal of one's own action. She serves her own interest first and is only friendly or helpful if it somehow is in her interest. So it also makes her somewhat unkind if she is with someone who can’t be of use to her so to say. Heck, she is downright vicious to people who are somehow in her way, like Haru since she was her “competition”.
Melon:
Tumblr media
Melon doesn’t care how civilized the animals of Beastars are. To him, they are beasts, creatures who are slaves to their instincts. They want sex and they want food, that is what drives them.
And sure, Melon is... somewhat right about the instinct thing... but he is also simplifying it because of his cynicism.
But since he believes everyone to be dumb animals(some smarter than others) then he feels absolutely no guilt about being a monster. He kills, deceive, and does whatever the hell he feels like. It seems like his philosophy is very similar to Doctor Moreau(look him up) who argues that the traits that separates humans from animals are just altered or disguised instincts.
Gouhin:
Tumblr media
Gouhin believes that the best way to make the world a better place is by LITERALLY beating sense into other carnivores, one meat eater at the time. But he also thinks that carnivores SHOULD eat meat, but they should do it in the Back-Ally Marked where they can buy it from shops who received it from hospitals or undertakers. That is more moral than killing someone. And he only wishes to treat meat eaters who have lost control, not turn them over to the authorities since he consider the neat for meat a born cross to bear(hehehe.. bear...) and HE is in no position to judge since he is a panda, a carnivore who was born able to live by only eating bamboo.
That means that he get VERY impressed by Legosi who did not actually give into eating meat despite Gouhin locking him in a room with meat to try and teach him a lesson. He is constantly on Legosi’s back and berates him, but he actually consider him an exceptional animal, both mentally and physically. But he is STILL just an expectation that proves the rule.
Gosha:
Tumblr media
Gosha is a pacifist, which is sort of funny when you consider the fact tat he was a child soldier who later fought crime with Yafya. But he got a family much to his surprise when his wolf girlfriend got pregnant, something that was SUPER unlikely since he is a reptile(remember, ALWAYS use protection). So Gosha adapted to becoming a single father after his wife died and led a completely different life than the rather violent one he had before. So his ideology changed a lot, making him sort of an uncle Tom who was well-behaved and simply allowed others to treat him poorly for being a poisonous lizard. He taught his grandson Legosi this ideology as well, that the strong should not use their strength.
Gosha believes that if you have strength, then you have the responsibility to not harm others. This means that if others comes to you looking for a fight, then you HAVE to evade the conflict by either leaving or possibly yield. If you fight, even for yourself, then you are a bully. This ideology is rather harmful since it means that you just HAVE to take it if others treat you poorly and it can lead to lack of self respect. In fact, you could argue that he hurt Legosi by raising him into being passive.
However, Gosha also believes that you have a responsibility to use strength to help others. So he becomes downright violent when someone either tries to harm his family or friends.
Yafya:
Tumblr media
Yafya believes that the world is chaotic by nature and that carnivores are savages who just pretend to have self control. Even when he was friends with Gosha, he still thought of him as a big monster. A friendly monster, but still a monster. The only way to ensure peace is by ruling the world with an iron fist and that problems are best solved by kicking them till they are solved.
The problem with this peace-trough-force philosophy is that it requires someone to be the one forcing the peace. Yafya has to stay in insanely good shape to be the iron fist that hold society together, but no amount of carrot juice will change the fact that he will eventually grow old and tired and won’t be able to be that iron fist.
And when that happens, then an old problem will turn ten times worse. The problem of carnivores living in fear.
Because even though the existence of the Sublime Beastar is a government secret, there are still rumors about him and it is normal for animals to assume he is real. To herbivores, he is a hero. To the carnivores, he is a bogeyman. The Back-Ally Marked has graffiti everywhere where he is called the “Black Devil” since rumor has it that he eats carnivores(something that is true). So if this bogeyman either dies or becomes unable to be the force that scares them... well, then the one-afraid meat eaters will become very pissed off meat eaters.
Yafya only provides a temporary fix to society, not an actual solution.
Riz:
Tumblr media
Riz the bear has a rather warped world view, but it is also one that is a result of... for a lack of better words; “laziness.”
Riz made a philosophy that herbivores were born to get eaten and that eating another animal is the same as making them a part of you. So the herbivore is being a great friend by “allowing” you to eat them up.
But the truth is that Riz ate Tem because he was stupid enough to stop taking his drugs and did not consider the consequences. But instead of feeling guilty about it, he sugarcoated it and made himself believe that it was an act of friendship. And if he REALLY bought his own bullshit, then he wouldn’t have gone back to his drugs. He would have kept eating other animals, making more “friends“. But he chose to just move on with his life after eating Tem, acting like nothing happened. That’s the act of a coward.

Yafya and Shirou, kings of the jungle
So, I have now watched season one of BNA. It was a very good show and I look forward to watching season two next year. If you like Beastars, then you will most likely enjoy BNA as well.
Long story short: Michiru Kagemori is a girl who becomes a “beastman”, meaning she is a human that can turn into a animal hybrid, a tanuki in her case. Since normal humans naturally hates beastmen, Michiru moves to Anima City that is the capital city of beastmen. In this big town of animals, she meets Shirou who is, for a lack of better word, the Yafya of this series.
I will now compare Shirou with Yafya and try to do so without spoiling too much of the show for you.
Tumblr media
If you follow my blog, you already got my two cents on what sort of horse Yafya is, but here is his character in short: Yafya is a totalitarian. He thinks that carnivores are savages since they have no self control. He believes that he has to be the iron fist that keeps the world from falling apart as the Sublime Beastar. Yafya does keep animal society from collapsing, but his methods are flawed and he is biased when it comes to carnivores and he holds grudges that he handles horribly. But he gets the job done since he has the physical strength to enforce peace.
Shirou is somewhat similar.
Tumblr media
Officially, Shirou is a social worker who often consults the police and the mayor. And he DOES aim to improve the well-being of the beastmen who lives in Anima City.
Tumblr media
Shirou is a wolf beastman, and a very powerful one. Nobody knows more than he does that humans hate beastmen and that rich and influencing humans will do much to harm his kind. So Shirou (who has been hurt by the humans as well) will do anything to keep Anima City a safe place for beastmen. and he will show absolutely no mercy to anyone who tries to threaten his city.
What separates Shirou the most from Yafya is that Shirou embraces being an animal as a good thing. Yafya fights “savage” carnivores to keep the world as orderly and civilized as possible while Shirou does everything he can to keep the humans from interfering with the beastmen’s way of life. In fact, Shirou is fine with the law of the jungle and therefor does not interfere when he sees two beastmen fighting over who is next in line at city hall.
Shirou also proves to be rather cynical as he doesn’t just jump right into action to save some children who are about to sold as slaves since he is waiting for the right moment where he could warrant an arrest. He does so since he has so much confidence in himself and his abilities that he can’t imagine he could be wrong or fail.
The most important aspect of Shirou’s character is his pride in being an animal hybrid. He cares deeply for the beastmen species, and anyone who threatens his brothers and sisters earns his flaming fury. Especially beastmen who would work for humans, beastmen who would turn on their own. He attacks such traitors mercilessly as he tells them that they have lost the right to be considered beastmen. He makes his point by not using his claws and fangs against them (his animal traits)but instead pummels them to death. There was a rhino beastman where he made an extra effort to punish him by breaking his horn off (again, an animal trait) since he no longer deserves having one.
So even if there are differences, Yafya and Shirou are much alike. Including that the hero of their series changes them for the better.
