Tokyo ghoul english dub stream
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Plus, some prequel events incorporate a lot of the mythology that had before been explained in the main narrative so if you start with them first, you might encounter some difficulties, as the prequels don’t really explain everything but rather rely on the fact that you’ve seen the main stories and know the basic premise of the show. Despite the fact that the chronology doesn’t really add up in this way, we felt that you might want a more authentic experience like we had when we originally watched Tokyo Ghoul as it aired. Since yours truly is among those that watched Tokyo Ghoul directly as it came out, we decided to present to you the watching order based on the release dates of each season and OVA first. If you have the time, Tokyo Ghoul is not an overly complicated binge watch and we strongly recommend it.Īs for the two OVA episodes, they were released as follows: Title Each episode is roughly 20 minutes long, which amounts to around 1000 minutes of material, i.e. This is a summary of the anime adaptations: TitleĪs you can see, each season of Tokyo Ghoul has exactly 12 episodes, which amounts to a total of 48 episodes that you have to watch in order to complete the narrative. :re was a direct adaptation of Ishida’s manga, with the two seasons adapting two pars of the manga. The first season of :re aired from April 3 to June 19, 2018, while the second season of the same anime aired from October 9 to December 25, 2018. The Tokyo Ghoul:re manga was likewise adapted into an anime series of the same name. The second season, titled Tokyo Ghoul √A, aired from January 9 to Maand it roughly adapted the second part of Ishida’s manga series, but it wasn’t a direct adaptation like the first season and it contained a lot of original content. The first season, Tokyo Ghoul, aired from Jto Septemand it adapted the first 60 chapters of Ishida’s manga. Tokyo Ghoul anime consists of a total of four seasons. Three years after the manga’s debut, the first season of the anime series Tokyo Ghoul premiered in Japan. Tokyo Ghoul Season 4 Name How many seasons does the Tokyo Ghoul anime have? Tokyo Ghoul became a massive hit for Ishida, which also lead to the aforementioned anime adaptation and even two live-action movies based on the series. Ghouls aren’t inherently evil – not all of them, at least – but they can only taste human meat and blood everything else makes them vomit, which is why they eat humans. The story follows a young boy named Ken Kaneki, who accidentally becomes a ghoul after surviving being eaten by one. The story of Tokyo Ghoul is set in an alternative reality where people coexist with demonic creatures known as ghouls. Although the series wasn’t consistently praised, it is considered to be among the better modern-day anime series, especially in the seinen category. Sui Ishida’s two-part manga, Tokyo Ghoul, has been adapted into a popular anime series. We are also going to include the two OVA episodes ( and PINTO) so you can know exactly when to watch everything. You’re going to find out how many seasons and episodes there are, when they aired and how you should watch them. In today’s article, we are going to give you the complete watching order for the Tokyo Ghoulanime.

10 Manga Recommendations for Quarantine (or any other time)
People seemed to like my previous recs, so I thought I’d do a few more while so many of you are stuck home with some free time to kill. I don’t read a lot of manga these days, and my tastes are somewhat ecclectic, but hopefully there’ll be something in here for you.
20th Century Boys - Naoki Urasawa
Tumblr media
Kenji didn’t like that a new doomsday cult had started recruiting in his neighbourhood, but he wasn’t going to do anything about it. As least until a letter from an old friend leads him to realise that the cult’s symbols and mythology are based on a children’s story. A story he and his friends made up thirty years ago. Now he must track down people he hasn’t seen since middle school as he desperately tries to remember which of his friends knew the story... and figure out which of them is leading the cult.
This isn’t just the best manga I’ve ever read, it’s one of the best stories full stop. Even if you think you hate manga, I urge you to give this a try.
Claymore - Norihiro Yagi
Tumblr media
Claire was never supposed to be a Claymore. But when Theresa of the faint smile saved her life as a child, she knew there was no other path for her. With few of the supernatural powers granted to her sisters, she struggles to survive as a monster hunter in a brutal world where death is always waiting.
This was serialised in Shounen Jump originally, and it shows in places, but mostly this is a compelling drama, with some of the most startlingly beautiful and horrible monster design in all of fantasy and scifi.
Drrr!!! - Ryohgo Narita (illustrated by Akiyo Satorigi)
Tumblr media
Nothing in Ikebukero is quite what it seems. The Russian Mafia sell the best sushi in town, demons are haunting the chatrooms, there’s a new gang on the streets, and if you’re really unlucky, you might just meet the Black Rider. They say its bike whinnies like a horse. They say it killed three men who tried to kidnap a girl. They say it has no head. They say... that it just wants to do the job and get paid like everyone else.
Drrr!!! is an experience. It blends fantasy and realism in ways I’ve very rarely seen done, and delights in subverting your expectations. Characters who appears to fit into archetypes any manga fan will recognise never turn out to be quite who you think they are, just as the story never quite goes where you expect it to.
Petshop of Horrors - Matsuri Akino
Tumblr media
Do you want a protector? A companion? A friend? A lover? A child? Whatever you need, Count D has the perfect pet for you (even if they don’t always look like animals). Just remember to read the small print, very very carefully.
While there is, sort of, an overarching plot, these books are portmanteu horror in the old style, a series of barely connected unsettling stories strung together by a shared narrator and a handful of recurring characters. Spoopy more than genuinely spooky, and occaisionally surprisingly touching, this is a great series to dip in and out of.
Death Note - Tsugumi Ohba (illustrated by Takeshi Obata)
Tumblr media
“Let's just say this: you will feel the fear and pain known only to humans who've used the notebook. And when it's your time to die, it will fall on me to write your name in my death note. Be warned any human who's used a Death Note can neither go to heaven nor hell for eternity. That's all.“
One of the very rare examples where the source material does live up to (almost all) the hype. Clever, dark, surprisingly apolitical, and just the right amount of very very cheesy.
Tokyo Ghoul - Sui Ishida
Tumblr media
Keneki Ken was an extremely ordinary guy, living an extremely ordinary life... right up until the girl he fancied tried to eat him. Now he’s part of the world of Ghouls, struggling to hold on to what’s left of his humanity as all his old moral certainties are stripped away from him. Ghouls are people, they have hopes and dreams and loves and they deserve the right to live just like anyone else. It’s just that to live, they have kill humans.
Did you want to be cool and edgy as a teenager but you never quite had the guts to do it? Congratulations, Tokyo ghoul is for you. Think of it as emergency rations for your inner Goth.
Black Cat - Kentaro Yabuki
Tumblr media
Sometimes a family is a legendary hitman on the run from his past, his mysterious boyfriend, a recovering child soldier, and the bisexual thief who keeps inviting herself into their lives.
Okay technically Train and Sven aren’t a couple. Technically. Rins is canon bi though so that’s cool. This book is a lovely little time capsule of the days when shonen manga was inexplicably full of bounty hunters with bizarre superpowers going on wacky adventures, and I love it for that. Plus it’s full of that good-good found family trope and we could all do with a bit more of that in our lives.
Beauty Pop - Kiyoko Arai
Tumblr media
Kiri Koshiba is no ordinary teenager. She has a secret, something she hides from even those closest to her. The only ones who know about her special abilities are those she rescues. You see Kiri is secretly... really good at giving haircuts.
This is a deeply silly book, full of deeply silly characters, in which hairdressing is treated with the exact same seriousness that sports animes treat basketball or tennis, and reading it just makes me smile. Sometimes when the world’s a bit shit you just want to read about an undercover hairdresser helping girls with their self confidence and giving them rad haircuts.
Bizenghast - M. Alice LeGrow
Tumblr media
Dinah Wherever is more goth than you. She’s got the wardrobe, and the doomed love, and non-specific mental health issues. Oh, and she’s enslaved to Bizenghast, cursed to spend her nights laying to rest the unquiet spirits that haunt the graveyard there and if she fails, she’ll loose her life... or something worse.
The first volume is definitely the standout in this short series, with stunning artwork and detailed world building, but all of it is a fun, creepy, surprisingly dark story, full of the author’s love for old school gothic romance.
The Wallflower - Tomoko Hayakawa
Tumblr media
Mine Nakahara is concerned that her neice Sunako is never going attract a wealthy husband with a mysterious heart condition if she doesn’t learn not to be such a shut in. So in desperation, she turns to the only obvious solution - give four well-meaning himbos rent free accomodation in exchange for them teaching Sunako to wash, wear something other than sweatpants, and talk about anything that isn’t horror movies.
Sometimes you don’t want drama, or angst, or deep plot. Sometimes it’s enough to watch four attractive and deeply stupid men try to teach the human equivilent of an angry raccoon how to walk in heels.

My thoughts on the leaks and the possibility how SNK will end
First - if you haven’t seen the leaks and don’t want to get spoiled what is happening, don’t read this. It’s a warning for spoilers.
Okay, this might get long, but I don’t care. Also, probably this is all for nothing, because there are only few leaks, that probably are not even five pages of the whole chapters, so who knows what’s really going on in the story and all the assumptions that we are getting might be wrong, or right, we will find the truth after the chapter is released.
But, I just have to write this.
I hope, actually pray, that SNK won’t end like many stories these past few years. For example - ending of Tokyo ghoul was really dissatisfactory. The story, as SNK was tragedy, from the starting point. We even have a quote from Ishida Sui - “If you were to write a story with me in the lead role, it would certainly be... a tragedy.”, but in the end... it wasn’t. I would say it’s like someone tells you and promises you some things, but in the end it is the exact opposite and you feel really disappointed, almost betrayed. In SNK form Isayama we have similar quote like from TG, that Eren said himself - “ I don't have time to worry if it's right or wrong, you can't hope for a horror story with a happy ending! “
Another story is Voltron, the whole show was a mess and I watched it till the end only to see if my favourite characters will make it out alive or not, I actually watched the last season only for one character, which was Keith, that was all. So if SNK goes down like Voltron, where the romance part was totally unnecessary and I will be bitter about it until my last breath in my life, I will probably read it to the end only for my favourite characters, which are Armin, Levi, Jean, Annie and even Historia.
The next story is the infamous tragic ending of the last Star wars movies, if you had seen it, you probably know what I mean, because the death scene was for me unnecessary and as in Voltron, the romance didn't have to be there, but I didn’t mind it (except for Voltron where I didn't like it, because it didn't make sense to me and the show would be better with no romance at all)-
So from this examples I hope, that SNK does not end the way which totally does not fit the theme - tragedy, loss, fighting for your life and freedom, because Eren running away is so out of his character? So why he did all of this? Why he joined the survey corps? Why did he started the rumbling? Even that the rumbling is really twisted way to achieve freedom, it was still in Eren’s character - for freedom, not only his, but those he loves and cares about (not meaning the romantic way, but for his friends, family and Paradis).
I’m Erehisu stan, I won’t hide it, but for me, if they don't became canon, so what? I don't need it, they have pretty nice connection, romantic or nor. They saved each other and Historia had a big part in his life, so for me I don't care if they become cannon. If they do? I will be happy. If they don't? I will be happy too.
And now for Mikasa, oh boy. I’m sorry, but for the whole show I just couldn't bring myself to like Mikasa. Like I don't hate her either, I just don't care much about her. If she is your favourite character, fine, I have nothing against it, your favourite character is your favourite character. Like I hoped there will be something that makes me like her and not me neutral about her, but that didn’t happen. Also, in the beginning I didn't see why people loved Levi so much, and before you hunt me down and kill me for this, let me say that through the story I started really liking him, he is one of my favourite characters. But this didn't happened with MIkasa, I don't know why, I just cannot bring myself to like her, but I don't hate her either, I just don't care.
Now, for Eren running away with Mikasa. Well, if they become cannon then let it be, even though the romance came out of nowhere, at least for me, I always saw them as friends and family, not romantic partners, but them running away? That is just out of character for both of them. Even though I’m neutral about Mikasa, her just leaving? This is just weird and probably it would ruing her development. In the beginning of the story she only cared about Eren, would follow him anywhere, as we know she almost died when she thought that Eren “died”. And through the story for me she learned to fight also for others, not just Eren, so just leaving everyone behind? Weird. As for Eren, he learned to care about others too. And remember when he went crazy and also threatened Levi himself, when Armin was on the edge of death? Why he would leave him? His best friend who showed him the book that started it all? That started Eren’s desire to see the world, join the survey and fight for freedom? Even when he learned the truth about Marley and Eldians, he still fought for it, but now run away? What freedom lies in running away?
I know I’m contradicting myself with the romance, that I would be fine with Erehisu but not much with Eremika, this just comes from my favourite thing in stories, when two people end up together and I didn’t expect it. In some stories you have this forced obvious couples that most of time don’t make sense, but when suddenly the protagonist ends up with someone else? I just love this twist, because like in real life, the person you are close with you probably wont end up with, but with someone else, who came to your life almost unexpectedly. This is just my favourite, lets say “trope” in fiction and stories (one of my most favourite couple is Isabelle and Simon from Shadowhunters) . But honestly, I would like to have no romance story at all, because SNK is NOT romance genre. Don’t get me wrong, I’m shipper and have many ships in SNK, but I don’t need them to become cannon, just let me ship them in peace, that’s what everyone wants, isn’t it?
So, in the end, I hope SNK gets ending that makes sense and doesn't become another Tokyo ghoul and Game of thrones (I haven't actually watched game of thrones, but I heard that the ending was worse than disaster). Leaks are leaks, not the whole chapter. Only Isayama and those who worked with him on the chapter know what is going on and as we know Isayma loves to make fun of us and see us suffer. Probably the leaks mean nothing and so this article in the end. I will still hope for the “right” ending and believe in Isayama. As Levi has said -  “No matter what kind of wisdom dictates you the option you pick, no one will be able to tell if it's right or wrong until you arrive to some sort of outcome from your choice." So let me suffer with my choices and it’s consequences. Until now Isayama wrote amazing story, that I love for now. If this hope gets ruined? Well, I will suffer in silence.
If you had read all of this, I bow to you. Sorry for grammatical nonsense and mistakes, English is not my first language.
Feel free to discuss in the comments, or message me. For another point of view, or to be bitter with me about the possible ending.
Thanks for coming to my Ted talk.

zakki:re Q&A replies megathread
A translation megathread of the zakki:re Q&A contest letters Ishida sent back to winning contestants!
As far as I know there were 100 winners, though I only have around 40 in this post. There were more on Twitter, but some opted not to release them publicly on Twitter for personal reasons (such as if they asked personal questions). Some didn’t reveal their question, or all of Ishida’s replies, but I’ve tried my best to guess at their meaning if possible.
The ones I’ll post here are from Twitter, specifically if they came with pictures of Ishida’s art or handwritten replies. I’ll also mention some context if I felt that the conversation/topic between the OPs and Ishida was interesting.
If you see one that I missed, please let me know and I’ll update this post.
Enjoy!
-----
Tumblr media
From songbirdfaraway (X):
No question or answer revealed. OP mentioned that since they drew Touka and Kaneki on the postcard they sent Ishida, that Ishida must have figured OP liked them and drew them in his reply.
Tumblr media
From mochi_XIII13 (X):
A huge Juuzou fan. OP stated they asked something they’ve always wanted to know from the bottom of their heart for ages, and that they couldn’t stop crying when they got the answer from Ishida. (No question or answer revealed.)
Tumblr media
From __rsks__ (X):
OP must have asked how Naki proposed to Miza, because:
Naki: (Oh yeah!) Dunno what kinda pose a “pro-pose-al” is, but I said we gotta be together ‘til we die!!
Miza: You didn’t need to mention that!
Tumblr media
From choco__morinaga (X):
The answer was hidden because OP wasn’t sure whether Ishida minded if it was shared publicly since the info he gave in the answer wasn’t mentioned before. Ishida said it was okay to share, but I can’t seem to find OP tweeting anything about what the question and answer was.
Uta: It’s a secret. Just kidding.
Tumblr media
From SatoshigeKiya (X):
OP mentioned they sent in a question that didn’t have anything to do with TG, and Ishida’s response:
Soba.
Tumblr media
From 00ibushigin00 (X):
No question shown.
Ishida: Correct.
Tumblr media
From tsukihoryst (X):
OP asked for Chie’s biography (one of two, actually!).
Hori Chie Birthday: September 30th 136 cm / 33 kg / 21.5 cm Currently on break from university. (Voluntarily on leave.) Hobbies: photography, travelling, going for walks, enjoying drama
Tsukiyama: Little mouse, what are you doing? Chie: I got asked a question.
Tumblr media
From Hosaka_0405 (X):
Seems like it was a personal question, so I won’t translate.
Tumblr media
From take2129 (X):
OP asked if Aunt Satou, Takizawa’s neighbour who was mentioned in his will, was killed by Ayato? But Ishida stated that it wasn’t Ayato who killed her, just some random ghoul.
Tumblr media
From reirei_reina_ (X):
OP was so happy they got a nosebleed LOL. Not exactly sure what they asked.
Ishida: It’s great that I can know about the people who have been reading the series for a long time in this manner.
Touka: Thanks!
Tumblr media
From cmnme17 (X):
OP’s question: Please give us more details about Hairu’s hairstyle!
Side: (fluffy bangs) Hairu: Hm...more details…?
Front: Long straight across.
Back: Looks like this from behind.
Tumblr media
From go_t35 (X):
Seems like OP asked about the name of a fan club for Ishida based on another tweet of theirs (X)?
Ishida’s attempts: Ishida Club, The 9th Laboratory, Us [Oretachi], We [Wareware], umm? Muscle Lover’S [Kinniku Daisuki’S]. Please tell me of a good one you came up with.
(This is Tsukiyama-level naming lol)
OP later replies to Ishida, saying they were thinking of Sui Sui Club (“club” in kanji).
Tumblr media
From 4njo_Usa (X):
OP’s question unknown.
Ishida: No matter how hard things get, don’t forget your goals.
Tumblr media
From mishumi_jugem (X):
This OP also asked for Chie’s biography. Similar to the first one, except that she has blood type O.
Chie: Me? I guess I also like seeing drama.
Tumblr media
From ChirolMaronLevi (X):
The question wasn’t sent by OP, but by his father. Both father and son are fans of TG (OP grew up reading Jump comics since the father reads them a lot), which amused Ishida greatly. OP is jealous, and his father is smug/happy about it lol (there’s a photo of him holding the zakki:re letter with a glove, with the letter itself wrapped in plastic, with a giant smile on his face).
Also a bit sadder to mention, but OP’s maternal uncle passed away from esophageal cancer. Hearing that his son (so OP’s cousin) has all the TG volumes, OP borrowed the letter from his dad to show to his cousin, which made the cousin happy.
Ishida: Isn't something like that decided at the very end? You're admirable. Please do your best to stay till the end.
Tumblr media
From inou_uoni (X):
OP’s question: This is related to Tokyo Ghoul:re. Ihei Hairu has pink hair, but why did you make her hair colour stand out from everyone else’s?
Hairu: Cause I’m cute, of course?
Tumblr media
From 3110_mai (X):
OP asked some question about Urie, and the reply:
Urie: Why indeed.
OP is really amused Urie doesn’t know the answer, and it might even be possible that even Ishida himself doesn’t know.
Tumblr media
From GW3Q1od9vzXccOM (X):
Funny enough, the preview of the postcards Ishida tweeted shows more of this illustration. (I’m planning on also translating those postcards that weren’t posted by their owners at the end). But it seems OP was concerned about Ui’s smoking habits, because:
Ui: It’s fine, I’ve got strong lungs.
Tumblr media
From paralysis_2626 (X):
Seems like OP asked where Furuta’s pseudonym “PG” when he was masquerading as Souta came from. This is what I could salvage based on OP’s multiple photos:
Furuta: Eh, what “PG” stands for? Huuh, is that what you’re asking…? What to do...hmm, alright, this is just between us, but the truth is...PG is [redacted by OP]. What!! Just kidding~ Actually, [mostly redacted, I can make out the parts where OP didn’t blur the text in another image, something about eating bulgogi]. Ahaha!
This is just my personal guess, so take it with a grain of salt. But:
Bulgogi = プルコギ = purukogi = PurukoGi = PG…
OP did mention they were going to get bulgogi after this, so chances of this being right are pretty high lol.
Tumblr media
From ute9pmr1 (X):
I think OP asked about what animal Ishida would want to become to relax (for example, OP wants to become a sea creature became they’re drawn to the ocean).
Ishida: If I’m given time to relax someday...I’d keep working as a human. I don’t really want to become an animal…
Ishida later adds in a tweet it’s more fun being a human.
Tumblr media
From hare__1127 (X):
OP got back a Houji from Ishida when they asked about hojicha (roasted green tea).
Above Houji’s head: It smells nice. Next to Houji: This is Houji-san.
Tumblr media
From re_cord01 (X):
OP was debating whether they should keep it to themselves, but decided it’d be better for them to share so everyone can see (thank you OP, this is personally my favourite reply I’ve seen).
OP’s question: What is Kaneki-kun's life like now? (something small like a simple diary entry...)
Month X Day X
I wake up to the sounds of Touka-chan and Ichika's voices. For some reason, they're excited over some news on TV. I read through the documents related to Countermeasures [most likely something to do with the United Front] , and summarize my opinion on it until noon. Time for lunch. Since Touka-chan went out to the shop, I make lunch for Ichika using the rice I bought. "It tastes better than Mama's," she said, so I replied, "Keep that a secret from Mama." In the afternoon, I think I'll take a short walk with Ichika, and try visiting Anteiku with her.
Tumblr media
From Nia__86 (X):
Question or answer unknown.
Tumblr media
From OKASHI_monster (X):
Question unknown.
I wasn't prepared at all... If I think about this and that it makes me think, "Ah, I don't wanna do this," so there's times where it's easier not to think about it. It may have been better if I had a "there's all kinds of things huh..." kind of resolve.
Tumblr media
From utahira_flour (X):
Question and the full answer unknown. (The postcard on the left is just OP’s message to Ishida about Uta and Hirako).
Uta: Try it out?
Tumblr media
From gongon0514 (X):
OP’s question: What is the name of Hirako Take’s Shiba Inu?
Ishida: Kotarou.
Tumblr media
From S8OkMMRsYsB7H8i (X):
OP’s fiancee got the reply from Ishida!
OP’s fiancee’s question: Why does Takizawa, when he became a ghoul, begin to hold his fingers in his mouth?
Ishida: Like infants, the reasons can include stress, and suppressing his appetite.
Tumblr media
I actually can’t find the OP for some reason, so if anyone finds it, please let me know!
Based on Ishida’s preview of the postcards, it seems like OP asked how Hirako felt when he first got his dog.
Ishida: Something like this. Hirako: …(it’s a dog)
Tumblr media
From tacto_0 (X):
Seems the question was personal, and I can only make out something about how once you’re satisfied it will end there.
The reason the mask is in the picture is because OP asked Ishida advice about making Kaneki’s mask a few years back.
Tumblr media
From secret_fairys (X):
The first reply that Ishida worked on.
Ishida: I like guys that can win with a hard blow. The weapon is a two-handed sword. Dialogue bubble: I will cut you down.
Tumblr media
From kuranosukezemi (X):
I can’t say what Ishida replied to OP since the revealed text doesn’t really say anything substantial, but seems like OP asked something related to the final chapter based on their tweet.
Tumblr media
From @S_R_Snow (X):
OP must have asked what Touka named her keychain lol.
Touka: No...since I’m not the kind to name things… Yoriko: She called it Usakichi!
Tumblr media
From @rio_080910 (X):
I have no clue what OP asked so the reply doesn’t really make sense. Basically if Ishida has tried doing something.
I never thought about it during serialization. But since it ended, I’m thinking it’d be good to try that kind of thing.
Tumblr media
From @Utinni_jawamori (X):
OP seems to have asked a Star Wars-related question since Ishida drew Darth Maul.
Why of course...here. But I also like Count Dooku. Exar Kun symbol.
Tumblr media
From @ume__oni (X):
Ishida’s reply was covered up by OP, but OP mentioned in their tweet how they named the onigiri Ishida drew “SSR onigiri”, and that they were thankful for receiving a reply despite their silly question.
Ishida replied to their tweet, and it seems like the question OP asked was about his favourite kind of rice or onigiri since Ishida mentioned something about koshihikari, a type of rice.
Tumblr media
From bobriorio (X):
OP’s question: Is there a specific character’s expression that makes you go, “Drawing this face is fun, I love it!”?
Ishida: Something like this broken-looking face, for a lot of reasons…
Tumblr media
From nato_noir (X):
OP didn’t mention what question they asked, but probably had something to do with the species of butterfly that appears throughout TG. They also mentioned they started reading TG in 1st grade of junior high, since Ishida addresses that in his reply.
From 1st grade of junior high! I'm happy to hear that. It may look like a "butterfly", but specifically it's a moth called a mock swallowtail butterfly moth. I drew it to symbolize the difference between humans and ghouls even though they look similar.
Tumblr media
From Fyt120 (X):
Question is unknown.
Ishida/Matsuri: Even if it cannot be reached, it will be in your thoughts for eternity.
(Why do I get the feeling he’s talking about Urie lol)
Tumblr media
From pencil_15 (X):
OP asked about Tatara’s biography.
Now published...!
Tatara (Zhū Lú) [朱鑪, 朱 means 'red' and 鑪 is fireplace, the kanji for Tatara] 186 cm / 96 kg Blood type A Hobbies: Go (taught by his older brother), reading (Takatsuki Sen)
Tumblr media
From hachiyone_arai (X):
If you can't stop thinking about the person even though you know it will never happen, that is love. ...according to Matsuri. (I love Urie too.) Urie: No.
Tumblr media
From nanasiFAST (X):
Miza: Hm...me? I don’t really rank the things I love.
Tumblr media
From Ishida’s preview (X):
Top right - Saiko: Kah!
Bottom right - Maid.
Tumblr media
Top left - Nakarai: Recently, Japanese waxwings, I think. (has a rock look to it)
Bottom left - Ichika comic: (you can read here)
Tumblr media
I’ll just summarize what I can figure out here since so much of it is concealed.
Higemaru - I think OP asked about how Higemaru ended up working for the CCG because it talks about his history at the Academy and the Qs. Also that Hige really looks up to Urie and wants to keep working with him.
Akira - I think OP asked for advice on dealing with the difficulties with their transfer family, because Ishida suggests using phrases such as, “I see...” or “That’s why~!”. (The alternative is Akira giving Inoue-san (from the transfer family) a Mado Punch lol)
Uta - A personal question, in which Ishida mentioned something about how if OP realized they messed up, and doing what OP needs to do.
Letter below Ui’s - Hide in :re volume 14, huh~ Kaneki also lost his way in OG volume 7 and :re volume 16. [Something about other guys like Naki, and something about how deciding the most important thing is difficult]
-----
The end! If there’s any other replies from Ishida that you didn’t see here, please let me know!

Before following, I strongly urge you to read what is listed below, especially if you write in the Tokyo Ghoul RPC. Spending a few minutes on reading what I have outlined, will ensure that there will be little to no conflict for all parties. Essentials I. This tumblr serves as an independent roleplaying blog for Kaneki Ken/Sasaki Haise, who serves as a the primary protagonist for the Tokyo Ghoul Series. I do not own or claim to be the character. I also do not hold any rights to the game or anything else in relation to the series’ Continuity. All rights to the character and the series belong to Ishida Sui, Shueisha, Pierrot Co., Ltd, and Funimation Productions, LLC . II. As stated previously, this is a roleplaying blog and will be used only for roleplaying purposes. If you are a personal blog, you are not permitted to follow me unless you have a sideblog for roleplaying purposes. Doing so, will result in an immediate block. This is to ensure that this blog runs smoothly when engaging in all roleplaying activity.  III. Traits of the muse that involve personality, ideologies, and other behaviors do not directly reflect of the mun’s. If you’re one of the few that believe that roleplay is synonymous with real life, then please do not follow.  Following/Unfollowing I. I will only follow back based on my comfort and interest. If you have followed me and I haven’t followed you back within a reasonable time period, then I have more than likely decided not to follow you back. The reasons can vary and ultimately, I want to be able to immerse myself in an environment where I can always feel at ease. If you expect to be followed back, then I will suggest you do not follow me at all. Trying to catch my attention in any way will result in an immediate block. Such actions can be but are not limited to: follow, unfollow and then refollow me, sending anonymous messages stating that I don’t follow you, guilt tripping,  and etc. II. I can unfollow people for various reasons. I do not owe an explanation in the event should I decide to unfollow you. Should you inquire about my decision regarding this, I will block you for harassment. In the event that you decide to unfollow/block me, then I’ll just leave it be and move on. But do not give me a hard time about your decision, simply go on about your way. III. You certainly can earn an instant unfollow, as well as a block, if I catch you causing drama or perpetuating unnecessary type of hate (whether it be public or anon), towards others or myself on my dashboard. I don’t need to see BS being spewed publicly even though there are situations where it needs to be escalated on a public level. However, most issues can be resolved privately. In addition, Involving me in matters that have nothing to do with me will result in a swift unfollow/block. IV.  At the same time, we do make mistakes. There are those in the RPC that have shown ownership to their mistakes and willing to make the honest effort to change themselves. If I ever hurt you or made you feel uncomfortable in any way, please let me know instead of being quiet about it. I’ll definitely apologize and always be willing to rectify my wrongs going forward. Writing I. I identify myself as a multi-paragraph roleplayer, anywhere ranging between 2-4+ paragraphs. Of course, novella (4-10+) is welcome. Keep in mind, that I prefer shorter posts over longer posts for convenience's sake. In addition, I allow single paragraph and even one-liner. But both writers need to put in the effort when we are writing a thread. I am not asking you to write length for length, but if you’re not putting in the work, then I will drop our thread without notice. II. Writing will only be done with mutuals, both threads and asks. If we’re writing a thread, I would strongly prefer that if we discuss the storyline before the actual writing. Of course, I don’t mind winging the plot. But I would rather have something concrete established ahead of time. III. Literacy is a must. Of course, English is not the primary language for some of us, as it is not mine either. If that is the case or if you have a legitimate learning disability, then please notify me at your earliest convenience. I am more than happy to make any necessary accommodations to best suit your needs. I am very flexible just as long as you let me know beforehand. IV. What will not be tolerated in when writing a thread are godmodding, autohitting, metagaming, and outside control of my character. I know how to control my muse and I will portray him as I see fit. If you are caught doing such actions, I will drop our thread without warning, followed by an immediate unfollow. V. Please keep in mind that I do not respond to all of my owes in a timely fashion as much as I would like to due to real life obligations. If I haven’t responded within an ample time period (two weeks at most), then kindly notify me. But DO NOT pester me on an everyday basis about owing you a reply. Doing so will only motivate me to drop your thread and most likely unfollow you. Shipping/NSFW/Triggers I. This blog is currently do multi-shipping. However, shipping works only when chemistry is present and/or something has been discussed with both muns beforehand. As of the present moment, my muse is CURRENTLY NOT ACCEPTING any romantic ships, except for a very small number of pairings.  II. Keep in mind that when it actually does come to shipping, it doesn’t have to be confined in the romantic sense. In fact, I encourage platonic shipping with our muses. III. My writing content is adult-oriented, my works may including NSFW (Not Safe For Work) content such as nudity, sexual themes, cursing, drug & alcohol use, blood & gore, and etc. Those under the age of 18, I am still willing to write with you for the sake of a plausible story. Of course, we all should know that certain content that adults engage with minors can obviously result legal consequences for the former. In the event should I be lied to about your age, then I definitely will block you.  IV. As far as triggers are concerned, I will tag them specifically when appropriate. If there are specific triggers that you need me to post if we’re writing together, please let me know beforehand. Mun I. You may refer to me as Kamen, he/him, 28, GMT-4 (Eastern United States). I currently work full-time, 50-60+ hours a week, while providing for a family. In addition, I do have other real life commitments that take precedence. Therefore, I am not active on a regular basis. For faster communication, mutuals can always inquire for my Discord at any time. These rules are subjected to change and to be added at any given time. Be sure to check back regularly. Thank you for reading.

UraIchi + rage
Generally speaking, Kisuke does not interfere in Ichigo’s battles. He gathers information for him, names and abilities of their enemies, all the tools he might need as he and whichever friends are with him at the time hare off after the latest villain who’s taking their - reasonable or unreasonable - frustrations out on Soul Society, and Kisuke remains a phone call or message or occasional meet-up away throughout the entire crisis, ready to lend a hand should Ichigo need it. But for the most part, he leaves the final standoffs and ultimate showdowns to Ichigo, partly because Ichigo’s always proven capable of coming out on top, and partly because someone needs to watch Ichigo’s back from the shadows, and Kisuke’s never been the full-frontal attack type anyway.
But once in a while, when necessary, Kisuke does take to the battlefield. Aizen was one, because even Kisuke’s conscience wouldn’t allow him to let Ichigo face off against that madman alone. The Quincy were another, strong enough an enemy that it had to be all hands on deck, and even then, Kisuke barely made it out alive from that war.
He intervenes when Ichigo needs him to do more than pull the right strings, and that’s what’s happening now. It’s not actually even a particularly strong opponent, just a rather bothersome one - a group of rogue Shinigami who’ve merged with a type of Hollow not unlike the once-Ninth Espada and the Reigai, enabling them to wear the faces of anyone they’ve laid eyes on, copying everything from clothes to Zanpakutou, down to a matching reiatsu signature. It’s what threw Seireitei into a state of panic earlier, when one rogue strode into the First Division and almost stabbed Kyouraku through the chest while looking like Ise Nanao, who was - thankfully - found later, knocked out in a supply closet. Apparently, the rogue Shinigami can’t continue copying someone if that someone’s dead, so there’s at least that small mercy even if there were a few hours there when nobody knew what was going on, with friends turning traitors all over the place, and then another few hours when nobody knew whom they could trust.
Yoruichi was the one who sent word down, that Seireitei was once again in a state of mass chaos, along with a summary of what was going on and a request (demand) for him to call Ichigo because they needed a fresh face that the enemy hadn’t seen yet. Kisuke called Ichigo, who certainly wasn’t very happy about being pulled out of class, but the great thing about college was that nobody took attendance, and after wringing a promise out of Ishida - who absolutely refused to miss more school and told Ichigo in no uncertain terms that the Shinigami could all just go and die for all he cared if they couldn’t even handle their own damn problems - to take notes for him, Ichigo had Garganta’d his way home, listened irritably to Kisuke’s succinct explanation about Soul Society’s latest clusterfuck, grabbed the scarf headpiece Kisuke offered him (Ichigo doesn’t ask where it came from so Kisuke doesn’t tell him it’s part of his old Onmitsukidou uniform), and stomped off for Seireitei, muttering darkly under his breath the entire time.
Kisuke didn’t blame him. The invasion just two weeks ago lasted a week and subsequently made Ichigo - and all his human friends - miss all their midterms, and Kisuke’s pretty certain it was only because Ishida Senior managed to procure genuine-looking doctor’s notes for them that nobody ended up at the Fourth from exposure to just how pissed off even sweet Inoue-san was.
And now, three hours later, here they all are, gathered in the skies above Seireitei, having finally whittled the rogues down to one. The remaining woman is shape-shifting desperately between captains even as she babbles something about the fall of Shinigami and their deserved end due to their prejudice, etc, etc, etc. In terms of skill, she’s not even that strong. Sui-Feng’s already gearing up to take her out as they move in from all directions to surround her.
Kisuke’s only here because a bit of dissection into a piece of the Hollow that Ichigo managed to hack off and stuff into a jar for him earlier told him that it wasn’t just someone’s current DNA it could copy-- it also skimmed that person’s past appearances, and Kisuke arrived just in time to prevent a broken and bleeding post-Hollowfication Shinji of a hundred years ago from dealing a frozen, horrified Hiyori a critical blow. The real Shinji appeared a moment later, took one look around, and beheaded his lookalike before they could even change back to their actual appearance.
From there, everybody was warned about what to look for, Ichigo managed to defeat three more on his own in addition to the two that were walking around as Rukia and Renji but apparently not well enough because a few minutes of observation was enough for Ichigo to decide they were fakes, and the Shinigami finally pulled themselves together enough to kill six more, leaving one woman still standing. She played a decent game of hide-and-seek, even Kisuke could admit, but surrounded as she is now, there’s definitely no way out for her.
Except-
She shuts up, abruptly, and she stops shapeshifting, swinging around to face Ichigo instead, who’s tugged down the cloth that was used to cover half his face now that it’s no longer necessary. She looks fit to foam at the mouth as she points and shrieks, “You! You’re not even a Shinigami! You’re a hybrid like us but you’re helping them! Traitor!”
The woman must not know that half the upper echelon technically consists of hybrids these days, but she’s apparently done just enough research to recognize who Ichigo is despite never having seen his face until now.
They all tense up in preparation for the woman shifting into Ichigo, because even if the copies aren’t as strong as the original, no one - with the possible exception of Kenpachi - wants to fight a madwoman with Ichigo’s unique set of powers.
Ichigo seems to be of the same mind, and he’s already lunging for the woman even as her image blurs and contorts white before reforming into-
Kisuke lurches forward, an unsightly motion that he barely notices as he recognizes the light blond hair and striped green hat, a perfect copy down to the wooden sandals and even the Zanpakutou in its sealed shikomizue form, a mirror of the one Kisuke is holding in his own hand.
But it’s not Kisuke’s current appearance she turns into. Instead, as the woman wearing his face lifts her head to reveal blood-streaked cheeks, liquid crimson spilling from dead and empty eye sockets, it’s Kisuke right after Askin’s Gift Ring attack reduced his sight to pain and darkness, before Benihime restructured them, and certainly before Inoue managed to heal the worst of the consequent scarring in the aftermath of the Quincy War.
“Ichigo-!” Kisuke tries to warn, not quite a shout, but alarmed enough that the exclamation is certainly several decibels louder than his usual volume. But he isn’t even sure what he could say, and the second Ichigo catches a glimpse of the-woman-turned-Kisuke’s bloody face, he jerks like he’s tripped over something, a flinch ripples across his face like he’s been struck, and the way his wrist twitches to the side, making Zangetsu swerve around his target instead is entirely instinctual, but that single moment of distraction is enough for the rogue to bury her sword - Kisuke’s sword - into Ichigo’s gut.
There’s a moment of stunned silence. Kisuke is no different in that he too stares, for a moment that feels like it lasts an eternity, at the blood that darkens Ichigo’s uniform even further, at the shock on Ichigo’s face, at the wide, crazed grin on Kisuke’s own stolen face.
Then, the woman’s form warps back to her own, Kisuke’s figure falling away as she pulls back, laughing triumphantly as she yanks her sword out, mouth opening to say something.
She doesn’t get the chance.
A blink. A beat. Nobody sees him move. Yoruichi didn’t boot him out of Onmitsukidou because his skills were getting rusty or because somebody else was better qualified in terms of strength. It’s at least half the reason Sui-Feng still despises him today.
Benihime - unsheathed with sparks of bloodlust red already dancing along its edge - shatters the woman’s spine from behind and skewers her heart in the same thrust. She chokes on a scream, jerking like an insect mounted alive before slowly sliding off Kisuke’s blade, leaving a smear of wet crimson behind as she begins to fall.
(She gets one last glimpse of the world before she starts falling, before she dies, and she wishes she didn’t, because when she looks back over her shoulder, even with agony hazing out her vision, the potent rage in her killer’s flat grey gaze is the most terrifying thing she’s ever seen. His reiatsu is a drowning thing, clogging her lungs and closing around her throat, and the blackness that takes her before she even hits the ground is almost a relief.)
(Kisuke doesn’t know what he looks like in that moment, eyes flashing the kind of wrath that could burn civilizations to the ground, his reiatsu a maelstrom of feral savagery, usually so well hidden behind the calm light-hearted formalities and jokes that most people these days associate him with.
He used to look like that for her, Yoruichi recalls, only a touch wistfully.)
Kisuke dismisses her the moment she’s no longer a concern. A blink, a beat, and he’s at Ichigo’s side just as the younger man coughs, blood bubbling over his bottom lip, barely hanging onto Zangetsu even as he slumps into Kisuke’s chest.
“I have you,” Kisuke assures, tucking Benihime under one arm and taking Zangetsu off Ichigo as well before wrapping his other arm around Ichigo even as his hands light up with the green of healing Kidou, one pressed to Ichigo’s front, the other to his back where the sword ran clean through.
“Fuck, that was stupid,” Ichigo mutters, coughing again, and he succumbs easily enough to Kisuke’s manhandling as he gently shunpos both of them back onto flat ground.
“Quite,” Kisuke agrees and gets a half-hearted elbow to the ribs in return, which almost makes him breathe a sigh of relief. The damage isn’t too bad, as it turns out-- it missed the most important organs, and without Inoue, there’s going to be a scar, but Ichigo will be walking again by tomorrow.
Kotetsu Isane lands a few feet away, her hoari fluttering in the wind, and hesitantly suggests taking Ichigo to the Fourth.
They get weaker with every generation, Kisuke can’t help but think. Unohana wouldn’t have suggested anything; she would’ve phrased it politely, but even an Eleventh Division member would’ve known it was anything but.
Even now, Aizen’s influence remains.
“Nah, I’m fine,” It’s Ichigo who says, waving a hand in the air. “Kisuke’s good at healing, and after, I can just crash back at home. You’d be better off checking on any other Shinigami who were injured.”
Kotetsu agrees and takes off, and Kisuke doesn’t have to look at her to know she’s relieved she doesn’t have to get any closer to him.
He thinks… he probably shouldn’t have lost his temper like that. He hasn’t in a very long time. But of course, if anybody could pull it from him, it would be Ichigo.
“Oi,” This time it’s Shinji, landing carelessly on Ichigo’s other side and not even blinking when Kisuke glances at him. The captain just snaps open a Garganta and gestures through. “I’ll take ya both back ta the shop.”
Kisuke doesn’t let up on the healing but he does stare at Shinji for a moment before dropping his gaze to the wound in Ichigo’s abdomen again. “Anything to get out of the cleanup, Shinji-san?”
“Ya caught me,” Shinji agrees shamelessly. “Now let’s go. Don’t drop the princess now.”
“Who’re you calling a- hey!”
Kisuke sweeps him up into a princess-carry, ignoring Ichigo’s protests. He can hardly sling the younger man onto his back in the state he’s in.
Shinji snickers as he paves the way between worlds with a glittering path of his reiatsu beneath their feet, and there’s a knowing look in his eyes that almost seems to approve, of all things.
Kisuke pays him no mind. Ichigo is alive, and healing. For now, that’s all that matters.

A Rainy Day
Summary: Touka helped him more times then he could count and it was time for him to return the favor.
Pairings: Touken
Words:  2023words
Rating: T
AN: HAHA I MADE IT JUST IN TIME FOR THE HOLY DAY THAT IS CHAPTER 125′S ANNIVERSARY. This is a short fluffy fic about my favorite Touken art that Ishida Sui drew over a year ago which you can see here
Read on AO3
Kaneki was tired when his shift ended, maybe it was the rain that had started in the past hour, or maybe it was because of the nightmares that kept him awake most nights. Since Kaneki had become a ghoul he suffered from nightmares of himself becoming a sadistic killer, and him being sadistically killed by an ever-changing cast of ghouls. Those nightmares made falling asleep daunting and staying asleep impossible, leaving him in a constant state of exhaustion. That fact made him feel silly and naive at the fact he looked so forward to collapsing in his bed when it most likely wouldn’t amount into the sleep he so desperately needed.
Kaneki watched the rain fall down the window from his seat at an empty booth, dreading the fact that he didn’t think to bring an umbrella with him. He could wait the hours that it would take for it to stop, or he could just bear it and get soaked on his trek home. Both options had there pluses and minuses, on one hand, he would stay dry but he also wouldn’t be able to go to bed for hours, or he gets soaked and uncomfortable but gets to be in his bed quicker.
“ You know we have a closet in the break room filled with spare umbrellas.” Koma-san eventually called out to him from his spot at the counter breaking Kaneki’s train of thought.
“ I honestly forgot,” Kaneki admitted sheepishly pushing his hair back from his forehead in embarrassment.
Kaneki slides out of the booth and made his way up the stairs carefully opening the door to not disturb Touka who was already on her break in the breakroom. Kaneki immediately regretted opening the door when Touka’s eyes met his immediately.
“I’m sorry for bothering you Touka-chan, I just need to borrow an umbrella.” Kaneki apologized standing completely still at the door.
“ You’re fine idiot, you don’t have to make a scene of it,” Touka mumbled pointing to the closet. Touka stopped acknowledging him not a moment after going right back to reading the book in her lap.
Kaneki was actually shocked that she was reading after she made her disinterest in the subject known. He found himself getting completely distracted from his initial goal to just trying to understand the picture before him. She was reading like she was in pain, her face scrunched up and the occasional sigh escaping her lips as she reached for what he assumed to be a dictionary.
“What are you reading?” he asked surprised that the question
“It’s just a stupid short story for school.” she half answered not taking her eyes off the book kinda waving him off. Kaneki rolled her eyes at her answer not letting her nonanswer bother him too much. Kaneki just from his short observation could tell that she was really struggling with whatever short story she was reading.
“Touka-chan do you need help. I don’t mind staying around if you need it?” Kaneki asked her gently trying not to intrude but also let her know he was there for her.
Touka’s face flushed at his offer, and it seemed to strike something within her because her body language immediately turned harsh. Kaneki felt in that instant that he made a small error in his decision to offer her his help. Kaneki immediately felt his body jump back nervously at the sudden change in the air. Touka took a deep breath and squeezed the book in hands before she looked up at him.
“Does it look like I need your help? She glared up at him her harsh voice striking Kaneki. A part of him wanted to spite her himself getting cranky from lack of sleep, it was obvious that she was struggling. But, he also didn’t want to make Touka anymore upset than he already did.
“No it doesn’t, you know me I just like books.” he smiled at her, trying his best to de-escalate the situation as he reached up to rub his chin. His words seemed to work as Touka visibly softened biting her lip as she went back to her reading. Kaneki quietly went to the closet trying his best not to disturb Touka anymore than he already did. Kaneki grabbed one of the umbrellas and shut the door, and he started to take off his tie to put away when Touka sighed again. Kaneki out of a curious habit turned around and looked at her. Touka held her face in her hands and looked the most vulnerable Kaneki had ever seen her
“ I have a quiz on this story tomorrow,” she admitted quietly slightly muffled by her hands. “ And I can’t read half the Kanji so I have to keep stopping and it’s so frustrating.”
Kaneki paused for a moment not shocked by her confession but shocked that she actually admitted to it. Touka sound so defeated and it was such an odd sight to him because she was always so strong to him. He didn’t want to ask if she needed help again, so he timidly walked over to the sofa Touka moving over slightly to make room for him.
“Can you tell me what this says?” she asked pointing to a group of Kanji on the page she was reading.
“Oh that's exuberant it’s another word for happy,” he told her without hesitation as he wrote the hiragana above the Kanji for her lightly in pencil.
“How can you tell?” Touka asked confused.
“Oh, whenever these two Kanji are together they make up the reading for exuberant,” he informed her with a small smile. “ It could mean something else but in context, he’s very happy to see her so it can’t really be anything else,”  he added thinking over her question for a moment.
Touka just nodded her head at that and continued to read a few more words before she made a loud sigh lifting the book to him, her finger pointing to the kanji she needed help with.
“ That's cloudburst, and its exactly what's taking place outside,” he said pointing at the window.
Kaneki just sat beside her feeling his body relax into the close contact answering any questions that came up during her reading. Eventually, though she seemed to refill her frustration meter and pushed the book away from her.
“ God I’m so stupid, this should not be this hard.” she groaned out eventually shocking Kaneki out of his sleepy state.
“ You know you aren’t stupid Touka, for not knowing how to read some of these Kanji,” Kaneki tried to calm her down. His words made her freeze and chew at her thumbnail, as she turned to look at him with disbelief
“Yes I am, it's why I’m barely passing Japanese Literature when everyone else in my class brags about how easy it is.” She told him with a huff, looking downcast.
“ You’re not dumb Touka-chan.” his voice rising more than he was used to causing Touka to jump a little bit in shock.“ You’re not dumb.” he voiced again a more firmly.
“There is a huge difference between being stupid and being behind. Stupid would be you not trying anything to get better, being behind is missing the building blocks in a subject. Touka-chan you haven’t been in school your whole life until now. You work hard to look at how much you taught yourself, you aren't struggling with any other subject.”  He told her passionately.
“Kaneki..” Touka mumbled out her face turning red.
“You can do things that I can’t like give back the correct change without looking at the cash register,” he admitted sheepishly.
“Literature is a lot of memorizing words and that takes time, time you haven’t had you will get better and I don’t mind helping you get there.” he gave her a giant smile
Touka gave him a weird look as she continued to bite her nails like she was still absorbing his rambling. She just kept staring at him and Kaneki felt himself start to blush at the awkward silence that had fallen between them.
“ Thank you,” she told him averting her gaze. “ But you don’t have to be so sappy about it, jeez,” she told him with a small smile, which calmed Kaneki’s beating heart.
“Can we get back to work now?” she asked grabbing her book placing it between both of their laps. Kaneki nodded at her and pressed his back against the sofa again leaning slightly on Touka to stare at the words on the page. They sat like that for hours after Yoshimura told Touka the cafe wasn’t busy enough for her to stay. They didn’t really talk besides Touka’s occasional questions and his answers. Kaneki found it intensely relaxing and he found himself started to slip in and out of sleep until he finally stopped waking up.
“ Hey, Kaneki what does he mean by this?” Touka questioned not looking up at Kaneki until he didn’t answer her like normal. Touka turned her head and saw that he was fast asleep. Normally she would have been annoyed and would have woken Kaneki just to tease him. But, he looked peaceful, and in all honesty, she would feel like an asshole after all that he had done for her. She wasn’t ignorant enough to not notice the dark circles under his eyes since he’s worked at Anteiku. As much as his ghouls are monsters attitude bothered her he had gotten better, and this change must have still been hard on him. If she was completely honest though he has been making her feel soft lately. She enjoyed their time together even if it was apparently gonna stem to sleeping around each other.
“If you’re gonna take a break I might as well join you,” she whispered to the sleeping man. Touka placed the book as carefully as she could on the coffee table careful not to disturb him as he had started to lean on her in his slumber. Touka then leaned back into Kaneki herself and closed her eyes quickly falling asleep to the rain and Kaneki’s light snoring.
Both of them didn’t stir when Nishiki entered the breakroom for his break, nor did they wake when he started to laugh and take pictures of the two of them.  They would only wake when Yoshimura lightly shook them awake when Anteiku was closed, so they can finally go home. By then the rain had long vanished, and the umbrella Kaneki had come for stayed on the floor.
“Hey, Kaneki can you help me again?” Touka asked as they headed out of the cafe together
“Of course Touka-chan.” Kaneki didn’t even hesitate to answer. “ Would next weekend work for you?”
“Gonna make me spend my day off with you?” Touka teased crossing her arms.
“Well we can do the most work then, and I feel like it would be better if we had no distractions so you can really absorb what we go over.” Kaneki started to ramble.
“ I’m only kidding next weekend sounds great.” she laughed waving at him as she left the cafe in front of him.
That weekend never came for the two of them, because a few days later her brother broke the same window that slept in front of and he was taken why all she could do was lay on the floor. She never got to show him the 90 that she got on the quiz, and she never got a higher grade on a quiz after. Kaneki never got to return to Anteiku, first by choice and second by Anteiku burning to the ground. The only proof of their time together became the picture Nishiki originally took as a source of blackmail. It was a sweet and embarrassing photo of the two of them fast asleep on each other took of them on that couch. Years ago Touka would have gotten mad and cursed Nishiki out for it, but now it was a somber reminder of what could have been. As well as a promise of faith for his return that was answered by a pudding haired man with a blinding smile.

Remembering anime theme soundtracks especially the one which are coming from 8 to 10 years ago is just : 😭🔥 My god what is it again . (Because it's too good and was a favs)
*searches till hair falls*
Plus , I didn't really wanted to watch any of anime anymore nor update the manga . The last one manga that I done updated was TG:RE (Tokyo Ghoul:RE) by Ishida Sui and Bungou Stray Dogs but it because that guy like monochrome Keido hair are in there . I mean , he looks cool or something . I just bought one volume only for BSD (Bungou Stray Dogs) . The manga version . My old friends either via online or in real life still does updating them a lot and nowadays , I be like : meh . I'm no longer excited to do things like that anyway . I still does looked up for merchandise or etc but mostly for gothic , dark stuffs . I rarely does that thing anyway like , for almost forever now . Sometimes I did forgot the manga or anime titles or characters but I still recognized just not so much into it . I'm just not that interested to know like I used to , like 5 to 6 or 7 years ago . Times does that to me . Sometimes , I do stopped to manga shop or etc whenever I can go out or etc but just for less than 20 minutes then go somewhere else or go back home . If you think that is the longest times you ever heard , you should see my other friends irl who stopping at anywhere that are related to that thing for more than 40 minutes . =n=;;💢🔥 Don't look at me like I did it the longest . I would have left if there is no Tokyo Ghoul or dark stuffs things in there . That's all . *shakes head in denial while walks away in backwards with hoodie on in sort of guilty and hides in somewhere* Just not my fault . Go away . =u=;;; ............ *points to them in sudden* Blame them >8'U Not me . I can't even stand waiting for them to move their asses from that shop either smh asdfghjkl I could have tear my face down with my finger for just waiti— I mean , I'm just being impatient about it . =u=;;💢Next time bring bed or your own chair and sit in there till next morning or something or picnic in there , no dragging me too or pull my clothes from behind when I want to left the shop . I will stare for real =w= . Like , can you even move >8'U Hurry *pokes their head with my fingers gently each 10 minutes in upsets* Used to be like that . Few years ago . Shit , crazy dark psychotic is still in my blood even when I'm going out to anywhere away from abusive environments or home lol . *twitches eyes in denial and walks away into dark life* Freaking god .

Mahou Shoujo Ore 5 | Yotsuiro Biyori 4 | Lupin III Pt 5 5 | Hinamatsuri 5 | BnHA 43 | Boueibu HK 5
Mahou Shoujo Ore 5
Hey hey hey, this is the second show I’ve seen ape Osomatsu-san this year. Seriously, no show is safe in a parody as a target for humour’s sake…Note Osomatsu-san is also by Pierrot, though, so they’re attacking themselves to some extent.
Now that they’ve pointed the Osomatsu-san reference though, I can’t believe I didn’t see the scarf colours last time! But…this is episode 5…
Oh, I kind of noticed it, but I’m probably too used to it since I watched the first season of Osomatsu-san – the blue lines are part of that show’s signature style.
Muscovado is apparently a substitute for sugar. It literally translates to “black sugar” though…
Sagami is…a former place in Japan…?
Tama River. I’m terrible at Japanese geography, so I don’t think you should be asking me about this…
Dang, apparently Pierrot is based in Mitaka, Tokyo so whatever joke I was chasing there fell flat.
Wow, they got really self-referential this episode…yikes.
So this is the rumoured Chiba-san? Uhh…
Oh my…I do not see the word “Japanimation” get much mileage at all these days, but I cringe every time I see it.
It’s Pokémon Go! Wow, that’s another level of meta for sure. My hopes for resolving all the stray plot threads while maintaining that wacky sense of humour (or however I phrased it) definitely went out the window…Notice the footage is dated April 24th 20X8, which is about a week before the episode went to air if the X actually hides “2018”.
Suginami. Apparently, Bones, Sunrise and other studios are stationed there…but Pierrot isn’t.
If there’s one thing I didn’t expect in MSO, it’s the fact this show became Shirobako in a sense. I still need to get around to Shirobako, by the way…
Ey, wait a second! Astral, you got your wish! We get to see…Fujimoto’s face!
Whoa! They went all out on the CGI fire effects! What is this show, Golden Kamuy?! (LOL)
Comichiya’s probably Comiket. The katakana (chi -> tsu, to -> ya) look kinda similar if mangled.
Dangit! I missed my mark on the guesswork again! Tokyo Big Sight isn’t in Suginami.
Basically, this is just a long road to admitting they couldn’t do a recap episode, but they don’t have enough content to pad this ep either. Ah, sweet revelations (sarcastic).
Is it just me, or does the bottom of Fujimoto (1)’s face look kind of like…Mohiro??? Wagh??? Update: No, the hair colour’s off.
The “on the train” technically says “on the NEXT train” (emphasis mine).
Wow, they namedropped Ishikawa (probably Kaito)! Ishikawa voices male!Saki, so it makes sense.
Oh my gosh, Mahoutsukai Watashi! What a bold move this show’s taken – it’s telling its own meta-narrative. Which means when I cover it for the collab post…it’ll be meta of meta…that’ll put my head in a spin for sure.
You can see Fujimoto and Sakuyo character designs if you pause for one scene (the one with “staff working from home”).
You can see the name Masayuki Ito (伊藤雅之) on that list with the downward arrows, but I don’t know what significance that name has unless they’re an animator or something...
Mensore is explained here.Basically it’s youkoso in Okinawan.
Jimami Tofu…isn’t tofu, as weird as that sounds. It’s an Okinawan-sponsored drama.
Well, at least this time I got a big epic battle (no matter how short it is). Nothing better than that!
They got Akira Ishida, Tomokazu Seki, Koichi Yamadera and some other guys to voice the Fujimotos this time. Notice there’s no crossover between the Osomatsu-san voices and the Fujimotos, which was probably intentional.
I thought there’d be a real Shinzo Chiba, but there doesn’t seem to be one…
There was a shot of Fujimoto (before the manager)! Wah! Was that there in previous episodes???
Every time people promise wardrobe malfunctions, they tend to…uh, deliver on that…
The Monokubo illustration this time is creepy…I like it!
Yotsuiro Biyori 4
Is this a zombie movie (LOL)?
Wow, Sui really loves cats, doesn’t…he…? (LOL)
Oh, so that weird zombie movie in medias res opening was actually one of those fakeouts…DN Angel’s anime did that, I remember…
Wow, they make Tokitaka so epic in this scene! A determined man is more handsome than one in an ordinary state, don’tcha think?
You can even see rice flying! Amazing! Tokitaka’s got such skill.
I am so spoilt for smol boys this season, between this and Boueibu HK…
Ooh! My eyes have been blessed with the hotness of Tokitaka!
There’s more chicken than usual this ep, eh?
Shiratama anmitsu.
I never thought we’d need a backstory for the resident cat, but okay. It was hilarious and fun while it lasted and now it’s almost over…huh.
Denzou? Eh? (I kinda get why the name’s badass with the kanji involved, but it’s hard to explain to a non-Japanese speaker…)
Agedama.
The next ep title translates to roughly “A Loving Hand for the Lost Lamb”…as in, to extend a hand to it.
Lupin 3 Pt 5 5
Okay, part 5 episode 5 is confusing when it’s just “5 5”, isn’t it?
I think the guy in the green jacket will be important later…? He’s in a key visual for this show, at least.
“This pasta called soba’s pretty good!” – LOL, soba ain’t pasta, y’know…
I’ve learnt about the stack before. Here you go.
IP camera. Hey, I’ve done something on IP cameras before, but normally Detective Conan (and most other mystery shows of the modern day) seem to be reliant on CCTV…
Chicken game…? Sounds tasty!...Not.
Ami doesn’t seem too pleased about all the shooting, LOL.
Even Ami knows bowing is a sign of Japanese respect. Just like how dragons understand the meaning of “Hatori Chise” involves birds…(i.e. I’m kind of skeptical that a real French girl would learn to bow to her Japanese friends when her life is always on the line, a la Ami.)
Episode…1? Y’mean, there’s more adventures, but no Ami? Aw, I was enjoying having her in the fray.
Hinamatsuri 5
A TV? $30??? Wow, I would fight a psychic girl for that! That’s friggin’ cheap!
“Toshibu” (sic), LOL.
Bikkuri means “surprise”, LOL.
“A teacher and a student walk into a bar…” – it sounds like a joke. Not that that could be conveyed accurately in Japanese, though. The fact it even works as an English joke must be a coincidence…
Hitomi’s such a terrible liar! Wahaha!
Nitta’s just like “I’ve given up on this girl”. Either that, or he has a hangover…(LOL)
Sayo looks kind of like Hina. If it weren’t for the hair colours I would’ve mistaken the two.
BnHA 43
Carrying a gun to a fistfight…yep, bad. Plain bad, Mustard, ol’ boy.
Sorry, there was a lot of fighting this ep and nothing much to say!
Boueibu HK 5
LOL, the bald bodyguard…he looks kinda grumpy.
Notice Kyotaro goes “ore kyoumi nai” (I have no interest in it), but the subs missed the subject of the sentence! CR, you weirdoes!
Echire butter…exists!
“You know about genetic testing?” - Irina! I think this is your department!
Ryoma’s the end of the evolutionary line!
Hmm…if there was no Ice Age in Honyara Land…might there have been something else that caused the Furanui/Karurusu conflict? There’s only animosity from one side, after all.
Bunbuku Chagama. Magozaemon was fat, so he would make a perfect teapot/tanuki…
Wait, if Maasa = Ichiro in the age department (roughly 16), that would add up. He went abroad for 4 years and held off on carbs the entire time…yikes.
“The people of this world envy those who represent the opposite of what they fear for themselves, so they criticise and attack them.” – Ooh, Ata makes a lot of sense here…! It’s a quote for the collection.
Asobukoto = It’s not really “fun” per se, but “playing” or “hanging out”. That is, if you translate rather literally.
They’re all underage (roughly 16 – 18), of course they wouldn’t drink! Of course, this is coming from a person who doesn’t drink…the only samples of alcohol I’ve had are few and far in between…
Hey, I studied this stuff in the past, you don’t have to regurgitate this info (about needing food to better absorb alcohol). Lemmee tell you, alcohol ads are weird…
They didn’t make the “glasses fogging up” a weird plot hole. Phew.
Wow, to think I’d be getting a science lesson of things I already know in my Boueibu…I never thought I’d see the day where that happened.
According to this page, one of the things the ramen shop serves is gomoku soba. Wait…that’s right! Ramen’s appeared in this show before! In the Chri-pa episode! Sorry Astral, I gotta spoil s2 for you!
Wow, this chicken carcass is even less of a threat than anything else so far! Wow-hee.
Taishi only seems vaguely fazed about the fact he’s being made to fight monsters. Interesting. I never think about the perspective of the non-red boys regarding fighting monsters until they’re pointed out, really.
So wait, the magic knight of space…makes bubbles? Uh, Astral, you might wanna learn from this…?
Hey hey, I found a page on tonkotsu ramens (sic from the Hakata anime) and paitan ramen.
Kyotaro on stairs = basically my mood when I want to imitate the “draw me like one of yor French girls” meme. (Very badly.)
So…when I said I missed individualised attacks, I never saw this coming. Sorry about that, people. (Even if that was only Ichiro’s bubble attack.)
Kyotaro makes a lot of sense here. But seriously, I think I need Astral’s easy button right now. That was easy.
Notice Karurusu is acting as a pelt…weren’t otters hunted for their pelts?
Oh, Sujikawa’s a first year, huh?
*Sujikawa picks up the boulder* - *round of applause from me* Wow!
Both Maasa and Dougo have such supportive friends, it almost makes me jealous.
The English! It’s…correct! (thinks back to a magazine article with “Difence” (sic) written on it in pink letters)
I, for one, am happy they’re tackling relationships aside from “brothers” this time. Finally, here’s something that stacks up against its competition in regards to deeper themes, even if it is a comedy!
Dougo and Maasa (Magozaemon) were in class 2, if you pause at the right time. Notably, the members of class 2 were all boys, LOL. Even with the boy to the left of Magozaemon, I think that name might be pronounced “Ai” (due to this page), but it’s in manly kanji.

Hiding under other people’s wings forever, then you’ll end up achieve nothing, and lose everything
So she raised up her courage, stepped into the shade of the Tree where could never be shined by sunlight, for she hoped she herself would have enough strength to help others.
“Go back first, Hinami.”
Heard someone else called her name, she raised her head as if she just woke up from a dream.
Fueguchi Hinami.
Aogiri Tree is an organization which formed and aims for creating “a world that friendly to ghouls”, and she is a member of it. Aogiri Tree justifies their means by their ends, with an aggressive manner, makes it quite usual for them to have fierce conflicts with the nemesis of ghouls, the[CCG].
And that’s what is happening right now.
Hinami was looking at him, who now standing at the roof of a mixed-used, observing the abandoned building across.
His sculptured face was covering with a mask of black “rabbit”, he is an executive of Aogiri Tree, Kirishima Ayato, now staring at those ghoul investigators who was planning on entering the abandoned building. Until a moment before, that building was where Ayato and Hinami exchange intelligences with other lower members of Aogiri Tree. Just when they were half way through, they felt that someone was closing in. Thus they fled onto the top of this mixed-used development.
“Ayato……”
“You’re in the way, move!”
–Ah, again.
Tumblr media
“Take care of yourself.” Left this sentence behind, Hinami moving toward the base of Aogiri Tree. Behind her, Ayato dived down from the roof.
Slaughter thus began.
From her ears, Hinami could hear the sound of heads rolling due to her extraordinary five-senses. Her first reaction was to cover her ears, but putted her hands down eventually. Since with these sounds she might also confirm that Ayato was fine, Ayato, who is now killing with her share.
Mattered not where she went, she could still be protected by others.
“……Don’t be so gloomy, you.”
After Hinami returned to the base, she just sat at the corner silently, hands held her knees. Yet soon, she heard that familiar footsteps getting closer to her. She raised her head, seeing Ayato at the entering of the room with a displease look on his face.
“Did you get hurt, Ayato?”
Hinami stood up immediately, asking with concern. “……Nothing.” Ayato answered blandly. He does like “sister” at this degree. Looking at Hinami who is now at ease, Ayato couldn’t help but feeling that she was paralleling him with someone else. “Don’t.” he warned Hinami.
“I had already finished the report with Tatara, you should go to rest.”
“What about you?”
“Onto the next job.”
With those words, Ayato left the room as if it was nothing. Now Hinami was again alone. She leaned on the wall, sigh.
As the growing of Aogiri Tree, so did the burden on Ayato’s shoulder grew. Perhaps Hinami herself was also part of it. With this thought, Hinami just felt unbearable.
“……I can’t be always like this!”
Hinami clapped her face with her hands, tried to get rid of all those negative feeling.
“As an appreciation to him, I should give him something he likes.”
Yes! Hinami nodded firmly, encouraging herself. But a good idea was yet to emerge.
“……”
Just as she brainstorming, another figure raised from her thought.
“……Sister.”
Kirishima Touka, she is Ayato’s elder sister by blood, who also is a ghoul and used to take great care about Hinami after she lost her mother. Her attitude was tough, a bit fierce one might say, but she was always kind toward Hinami.
When she was with Ayato, she would remember Touka. Then, as a string that was being pulled, the next thing she remembered would be Anteiku.
Anteiku, a café located in ward 20th, also the place where Touka worked as part-time.
There were both ghouls and human there, where air was filled comfort which the manager Yoshimura dedicated to build, it was a place where you could feel no worries. It’s also at there, Hinami met the “big brother”.
Touka used to brew delicious coffee for Hinami. Although there were few times that her coffee still taste a bit fuzzy, it still earned countless praises.
“Ah…..That’s it!”
Hinami erected her body that was leaned on the wall, and held her hands together.
“Coffee!”
If she can brew some good coffee, maybe Ayato’s mood can be lighten by it.
But unlike Anteiku, here they had no tool for brewing, nor do they had coffee beans.
Even couldn’t have tools that’s as high class as the shop used to have, she needed at least to acquire some basic equipment.
Hinami thus decided she would go out and purchase all the necessary equipment for brewing coffee.
-2-
The next day, Hinami stepped out her room right after she finished the analyzing jobs she responded for. Although she was more used to go out at night, she had to work with human’s way with time if she wanted to go shopping. Plus, Hinami weren’t so sure about where to buy those things she needed, that might also cost some extra times.
“Ah…..”
Though it’s noon, the corridor of the base was still filled shadow. As Hinami walked along the corridor, she stumbled upon a man, whose body was wrapped in bandages that soaked with the smell of blood and rotten flesh. Hinami stiffed a little.
This man is the Owl, the successful object of Aogiri Tree’s ghoulify operation. When he was still a human, his name was Takizawa Seidou.
“……Wanna go out, little Hina?”
Did he just notice Hinami, or was he watching her the whole time? Takizawa’s head leaned aside unnaturally, with both eyes stared straight at Hinami. Yet somehow, Hinami didn’t think that her image was actually in Takizwa’s sight.
For Hinami, Takizawa, this former human who was modified into a ghoul, alongside with his sanity shattered, was someone that she couldn’t bear to witness.
“Ehhh……”
“If you do have some time, why not play some football with big bro me?”
Takizawa kicked the thing he played as ball toward Hinami. Hinami couldn’t help but screamed in panic as she saw that thing got closer. It’s a head that was so plumped to tell its original gender, its nose already chopped, and others figures were also too broken to be recognized.
“No……”
Hinami dodged as it is some hot coal, the head just fall on the floor with a sound of “KO DON”. Sounds, like those heads Ayato chopped off yesterday.
“Kick kick kick! Just kick it back!”
TON! With one jump, Takizawa closed the range between them immediately. He picked up the head on the floor, and carried it toward Hinami’s nose.
“Ain’t matter how you kick it, it just won’t break……maybe I’ll feed you the brain once I kick it out.”
Hinami turned her head over, and closed her eyes.
I don’t want to look, I want to out of here, SOMEBODY HELP PLEASE HEL—
“Oi! Eat your own food!”
A stern voice raised in the corridor, which belonged to the leader of the Blades, Kusakari Miza. Although she has a figure that’s shorter than Hinami and a baby face, she is one of Aogiri Tree’s executives.
“Give it to me then, if you’re not going to eat it.” Miza stretched out her tiny hand.
“Hehe!” Takizawa hided the head behind his back first, then again held it in front of him. Then he left, with child-liked giggles. Hinami patted her chest, eased a little.
“What a gross prick……”
Miza mumbled, watching Takizawa left with her eyes cold.
Tumblr media
“Sorry, thanks you very much.”
“Don’t mention it, he was just stranded in my way. No big deal.” Miza said with ease, “Oh yeah, aren’t you onto some business or something?”
“Ah, yes, I want to buy some coffee beans and brewing equipment……”
“Coffee?”
Miza looked confused.
“I’m always being cared by Ayato, so I want to thank him by brewing him some coffee.” Hinami explained to Miza, “I want to brew it with coffee beans, not just buy him canned coffee.”
“Come to think of it, you and Ayato’s relationship is sure close.”
For some reasons, Miza sounded a bit envious, yet she switched back to her normal self immediately.
“But, going out alone during the daytime is perhaps too dangerous, isn’t it? There are investigators everywhere. And you are not used to fight, aren’t you?”
The majority of Hinami’s jobs were about supporting. Though there were times she used kagune to protect others, but Miza was right, she really wasn’t good at it. It’s not about ability, but personality. This also troubled Ayato from time to time.
“I will run away if there is dangerous.”
“Well, it isn’t impossible with those keen ears of yours, but…….eh, if that’s so……” Miza looked at Hinami, a fine idea seemed to come up in her mind, “I’ll go with you, I got spare time today anyway.”
“Eh? But……”
“Though daylight does disturb me, having some sunlight sometimes can’t be that bad. And I’m curious about coffee that makes from beans.”
Although Hinami did feel happy for Miza’s kindness, she couldn’t help but feel sorry, like she was dragging Miza around with no good reason. But Miza just left with “I’ll give my men a hint.”, then went on for preparing go out. Hinami bowed to that tiny figure as a thanks.
The weather sure is nice, the sunlight just glaring down from endless, cloudless day.
“It is stinging.”
Miza took off that loose cloak she always wears, which is convenient for using kagune and acting, and changed to some human dress that made her even more child-liked. Since she usually only interacted with her during missions, Hinami now felt kind of refresh.
“Miss. Miza, you’re so cute with that dress.”
“Please don’t say that, I’m already over thirty.”
A puzzled look emerged from Hinami’s face.
“The ghouls in our clan are tend to be short-sized. I’m even shorter for I inherit the purest lineage.” Miza continued her talk: “We usually being looked down for our figure.”
Maybe I said something very rude, Hinami thought. “I’m sorry.” She apologized.
“Nah, it’s ok.” Miza replied readily, “If you’re like those White Suits, always saying Old Hag this, Old Hag that, then I’ll be pissed.”
The White Suits used to be a gang ran by Jason from ward 13th. As its name, every members of them wear white suit, and treat each other as brothers. Now the ghoul that leads the gang is Naki, sometimes they go into the fields with Miza’s Blades. Nicely speaking they’re “cooperating”, yet in reality, White Suits always acted as they please.
“Ms. Miza seems always behind Mr. Naki’s back.”
Although he was powerful, Naki did have a significant lack of intelligence, he always acted on his emotions without thinking at all. While this doid make him candid and likable in some degree, but Hinami had a feeling that Miza always taking care of him no matters the troubles.
“Huh?! My hands are forced! FORCED!”
Almost in an instant, Miza denied with a high-pitched voice, which startled Hinami. Saw that, Miza calmed herself and answered: “It’s just because I don’t want to be dragged down by him.”
“That buffoon charges without a thought whenever he thinks there are enemies. Maybe he is confident about his own strength, but a leader who doesn’t consider things usually makes his subordinates gain wrinkles.”
“Ah.” That reminded Hinami.
Miza is also a leader herself.
“Maybe you can say we don’t share the same values, but I still think the less we need to sacrifice, the better. Of course, the best scenario will be no sacrifice, but that’s just too hard.” Miza’s face darkened, “This world just isn’t that fantasy.”
That’s a face which was forged with witness too many departures by death. Still, with so many wounds in her heart, Miza was still fighting for her comrades till this very day.
A figure emerge from Hinami’s thought. His bleached white hair was blew by the winds, the lonely fighter, and the “Big brother”.
Kaneki Ken.
He who taught Hinami the beauty of words.
Henami’s heart used to feel warm whenever Kaneki smiled gently toward her. But now, this memory is just a trigger that saddens her.
“But normally speaking, ‘cute’ is for those like you, right?”
Miza said to Hinami, who tightened her lips unconsciously.
“……Huh?”
“How should I put it, that men will always want to be your chevaliers? No, not just men, you have this aura that makes everyone else want to protect you.” Miza said: “Unlike me.”
She didn’t mean anything, yet what she said made Hinami almost suffocated.
“Fueguchi?”
There was an uncrossable line, perhaps, between those who always protect others, and those who are always protected by others.
–You did nothing. –You have yourself to blame, for every time you lost someone you hold dear. –It’s because you are too weak.
Those words echo, branded in her like curses.
Takatsuki Sen was a novelist who makes people dazzled by her magnificent works, yet at here, her name is Eto. It was her who revealed the truth to Hinami, who was cherished by so many others, and invited her to join Aogiri Tree—an organization that just her novels, filled with darkness and smells of death.
Hinami thought, that only by joining the Aogiri Tree, that she could get rid of that soft part of herself, and become stronger.
Yet while it ws her who wants to change herself, she was still receiving helps from others in the reality.
There was mother, and Kaneki.
Now it is from Ayato. Even from Miza, a few moments ago.
“I am……quite envy about Ms. Miza.”
Hinami couldn’t help but spoke from the bottom of her heart.
“Ms. Miza always stands on the frontline to protect others. And I can only stay behind so I may operate…… hide under everybody’s shadow. How can I become someone who is able to protect others? How may I be useful for everybody……?”
The more Hinami talked, the more shameful she felt. This sure was her weak spot.
Miza staring at Hinami, spoke yet didn’t know how to answer properly: “……I don’t know what you’re thinking about, but everyone has their own place. We need commanders at front, so we also need someone supporters from behind.” Miza kept saying: “Plus, I do value your ability. You’re extremely valuable especially when there are too many people in Aogiri Tree that just don’t know how to do a normal communication. Also, a rare member of “girls club”. Now, I don’t remember you go out today just for this chit chat, isn’t it?”
As Miza pointed out, Hinami remembered what she originally aimed for.
“Coffee……”
“Yes.” Miza nodded, “First thing first, do what you need to do, and we may chat when it’s finished. And the sun!”
Miza seemed a bit frighten by the light under the glaring sun, with both her eyes narrowed to almost thin line.
“So-Sorry.”
Hinami finally stepped forward, Miza followed with a sigh.
“We’re women, we tend to be gloomy sometimes.”
Even Ms. Miza can be bothered by something? Hinami wanted to ask, yet swallowed her question back.
Though there were various kinds of tools that can be used for brewing coffee, but Hinami could only purchase those could be used in their base. Not sure which was suited, she asked clerks thoroughly and eventually decided what to buy.
They’re a grinder for coffee beans, a dripper and some paper filters, swan-neck kettle for pouring boiled water, and a server for filtered coffee.
“Now there are only beans left.”
Hinami and Miza went into a specialty store for coffee beans together. As they stepped in, they almost drown by the fragrance of coffee. Which felt really nice.
Hinami remembered the first time she and big sister went to buy coffee beans, she was also astounded by the fragrance that filled the room, just like now.
“How amazing.”
Tumblr media
Miza seemed also surprised by the strength of fragrance, her nose couldn’t help but twitching.
“There are various kinds of beans.”
The glass cabinet in front of them were all kinds of coffee beans, placed ordinarily.
“Have you decide which ones you need?”
“No……but I have some basic ideas. Excuse me, clerk.”
Hinami called clerk, asked if she could smell the beans for confirmation.
“……”
She checked carefully one by one, compared with the smell of coffee that Touka used to drink in her memory. Although she didn’t remember the exact kind of beans, she did remember how it smelled.
“This one!”
Hinami bought a bag of coffee beans after she found that fragrance in her memory.
-3-
“Welcome back, ma’am Miza.”
After they went back to base, a ghoul that belonged to the Blades came out greet them immediately, perhaps he was waiting Miza.
“Anything unusual, Mikami?”
“Fine as always. How’s outside treated you?”
“Sun is stinging. Oh, and the coffee bean smells astonishing.”
“Is that so~~”
The mood of their conversation seemed close and natural, felt no hierarchy. But of course, Mikami’s eyes were filled with respect toward Miza. To Hinami, they seemed were bounded by some unexplainable connections.
Came to think of it, the bounds between the Blades’ members were as if they’re family.
When they were out there, Miza mentioned a little about her clan. Maybe they knew each other back when they’re born, then helped each other at their own inability, and survive together until this day. So there was no hierarchy, nor one way relationship, just a fair and equal between them.
In the bloody grim Aogiri Tree, the scene liked this, which partnership was tied closely makes Hinami felt a sense of comfort.
–Did I push myself too much?
Only noticing things that I can’t do, then fell into the mud of depression myself, end up worrying everyone around me.
Although it wasn’t right to just rely on others, add weight to their burden forcefully, yet to Hinami, wasn’t it the best method to put the confusion aside, be practical and do what only she can do first?
Thought of this, the meaning of what Miza said about “First thing first, do what you need to do.” became solid in Hinami’s mind.
“Oh yeah, is Ayato here?”
“Kirishima? Didn’t see him. Probably still on the job?”
“Huh.”
Miza looked at all the things Hinami bought with pity.
“Took some effort to buy all of these. But he should be here soon, just brew him some nice coffee then. Bye.”
Thought her duty was finished, Miza was about to leave. “Wait!” Hinami stopped her.
“Huh?” Miza turned her head back.
Hinami took the bag contained coffee beans out.
“Don’t you want to have some, Ms. Miza?”
Miza blinked her eyes after heard this unexpected invitation.
“But didn’t you buy those for Ayato’s sake?”
“But I also made Ms. Miza came all the way with me……I want you to have this as well.”
“Hun……” Miza sided her head after she heard what Hinami just said, thinking, “But I kind of still believe it is better to save the first cup for him……”
She thought for a while, then nodded: “Okay then.”
“You probably aren’t used to brew coffee at here anyway, just let me be your practice partner then. Beside……” Miza’s look softened, “The fragrance of those beans are alluring.”
Hinami had a smile on her face too. It’s been a while to feel like this.
“Let me think, it should be……”
Hinami boiled the water, for first step was to warm the cup and server by hot water.
Koma Enji, a staff at Anteiku who seemed always jolly used to said: ‘If you want cook some coffee that can warm customers’ hearts, you ought to warm up the tools that produce that warm first!”
‘Just hurry and act!’ Irimi Kaya, another staff who also worked at Anteiku liked Koma, would reply immediately after she heard him said that.
Hinami continued as her memory told her.
“Looks like a lot of works.”
Mikami, who followed with Miza, asked with curiosity.
“That is what cooking is like I suppose. As I heard, those rich ghouls will go through a lot of preparations with the human meat they dine.”
“Same as I heard. Although we also make some jerkies when we need to hide underground, it’s probably just aren’t the same as those carefully prepared delicacies.”
Hinami carefully ground the beans, then putted the ground coffee into the paper filter that placed on dripper.
‘This part is the key, Hinami.’
Those words with calmed voice came from Yoshimura, the manager of Anteiku.
“As I remember, pour some small amount of hot water first…..”
As the steamy water poured from long, sharp spout of swan-neck kettle, a strong fragrance arouse as it spread out on grinded coffee. “That smells good.” Mikami whispered, while Miza nodded as agreement.
‘Now you wait for a bit.’
Nishio Nishiki said impatiently, stared at the coffee that awaited to be brewed.
“……then, like drawing a ‘の’……”
Hinami used to watched this scene from the bar top of Anteiku.
Kaneki, Touka, Kuma, Irimi, Nishiki and Yoshimura, everybody brewed their coffee this way.
“Thanks for your patience.”
Hinami poured the coffee that she worked so hard to make into a cup, and passed it to Miza.
“I shall enjoy it.”
She took the cup with her both hands, touched it gently with her lips. Hinami watched her move nervously. The steamy coffee warmed Miza’s lips, then slip into her mouth quietly. Her throat moved ups and down as she swallowed, then ringed some “Gu-lu” liked sound.
“……that’s very delicious, Fueguchi!”
Miza putted the cup down, and looked at Hinami with sincerity, which you could tell she was not lying nor having a polite talk.
Wonderful.
As Hinami thought of that, her tear glands also eased a little.
For she recalling everyone’s kindred sight backed in Anteiku, when they watched Hinami enjoyed the coffee they brewed for her. Their images became lively in Hinami’s thought.
–Helping each other is the policy of Anteiku.
These words touched Hinami’s heart, gently.
Her face downed, tried to cover her emotion, fingertips airily swiped her eyes. Recollected herself, Hinami also wanted to try her own coffee.
“WOW! I smell some good stench here!”
Suddenly, a strong voice aroused.
Miza surprised, turned back her head and saw Naki, the leader of the White Suits, just appeared.
“Gagi.”
“Gogi.”
His bodyguard, Gagi and Gugi, were also with him.
“Eh, ‘stench’ means something smells awful, big bro. But this smell is…..Ah! The Old Hag is holding something!”
“That’s coffee, big bro.”
Behind Naki, were the two White Suits’ executives that supporting him, Hooguro and Idera Shousei.
Tumblr media
“Oh! This thing?”
Naki just took the cup over from Miza’s hands, then drank the cup clean with alacrity.
“Hey, what the hell! That’s in, indirect ki, ki, ki, kis—!“
Miza blushed, yelling. Yet Naki ignored her completely, his eyes shocked after he finished the coffee.
“BBEEEEAAAAAUTIIIIIIIIIFUUUUULLLLL!!!!”
Naki howled.
“Big bro just baa-baaed like a sheep.”
Naki glaring at the bottom of cup.
“What’s with this coffee?! It’s totally different from what I got from those vader machines’ I kicked till them spit!”
“That’s vending machines, big bro.”
“Is that it?! The things from those ‘farmlier customers only’ shops in the legend?!”
“It’s ‘familiar customers’.”
As Naki’s spirit grow, his vocabulary mistakes just piled up with it.
“Old Hag! Where is this came from?”
Naki showed the emptied cup in front Miza’s face, she took the cup back brutally.
“Non, none of your darn business! What the hell, you’re just unbearable……”
Miza hold the cup firmly, her body shook a little.
“Gagigaga.”
“Gogo.”
Although Hinami had no idea what Gagi and Gogi said, but it seemed they just pointed out the coffee server in her hands, which still had some coffee in it, to Naki.
“Hinami! You made this coffee?!”
Naki’s suddenly sat across Hinami, his sight glaring.
“Uh, yes……I just bought everything I need tody.”
“Half more!” Naki commanded as he pointed at the cup. “That’s one more.” Miza looked at Naki with displease, “And come on, those are Fueguchi’s stuff…….”
Miza was about to shove Naki away, but Naki just leaned his body forward:
“I want everyone else can try it!”
Naki sure is a leader too, his flock behind him were now looking at each other, touched. Hinami nodded.
“I’ll make everyone’s coffee, also will refill Ms. Miza’s, and there’s also one for Mr. Mikami.”
“But Fueguchi, you bought those for—“
“It won’t be a problem, I’ll save Ayato’s part.”
Hinami smiled at Miza, who now seemed to worry about her.
Then, Hinami started to make coffee for Naki and his men.
Yet Naki didn’t satisfy by just let everyone on the scene to have coffee, he even called every White Suits in the base to come over, which made Hinami became really busy.
Finally, Miza could no longer hold herself and called Naki out for he had gone too far. Just when the atmosphere became tense, Naki asked Hinami aggressively: “The just give me the very last half!”
“Can’t save Godly Big Bro Yamori from this!”
Yet Yamori, the one Naki worshiped so much was no longer in this world. Although it’s unclear how he would present this coffee to Yamori, but since he asked, that must meant he was really found of Hinami’s coffee.
When Hinami poured the filtered coffee into the cup and handed it to Naki, he hold it carefully, yelled “Tank you!” then left. That should be ‘thank you’ that he meant to say.
After the farce, the left beans are only enough for two more cups of coffee. “Do enjoy what’s left with Ayato.” exhausted Miza said, then she went back to her place.
Hinami also back to her room, double checked the amount of coffee beans.
“……”
-4-
Later that day, Ayato finally returned.
“What the hell is with Naki? He is holding a cup and howling Yamori’s name nonstop toward the sky. It’s almost like he’s rain praying.” Ayato mumbled. He seemed really confused by witnessed something THAT ridiculous as soon as he returned. Hinami was shocked too, she didn’t think Naki would do such thing.
Although she wanted to explain from the start, but it’s probably faster if she just present the thing.
“Ayato, have you finished all the jobs today?”
“Eh? Yeah, finally.”
Ayato sighed, massaging his neck with a hand. All the jobs that kept coming seemed gave him a lot of stress.
“Sorry, but can I borrow you some time? It won’t take long……”
Maybe she should just let Ayato go to rest earlier, that’s better for him. Hinami’s head downed, peeked at Ayato. “Hurry then.” Ayato said with a look that he just couldn’t deal with her. He was also liked Touka at this.
Hinami boiled the water, prepared the equipment.
“So this is what Naki is holding?”
Ayato picked the bag with coffee beans, finally figured out.
“I bought those today, he seemed to like it……”
“There is almost nothing in this bag.”
Ayato was right, the bean bag is almost empty, you could tell how many cups of coffee Hinami had brewed this day. Thanks to this, her actions now were much swifter.
Hinami took the amount of bean for one cup, ground prudentially. Ran every steps with extreme cautious, she wanted to present the fruit of today’s practices.
Comparing to when they first time met at here/ Aogiri Tree , Ayato had grown both outside and inside, he no longer spread stings whenever he talk. Although his attitude might be cold, he did care about Hinami in a lot of aspects.
—- There is no need for you to join Aogiri Tree in the first place…… isn’t it?
That’s what he told her that day when Tartara ordered Hinami to purge the traitors, but Ayato eventually did it for her because she just couldn’t do it.
Aside from that, Ayato also told Hinami that she didn’t suit for a place like Aogiri. Maybe he was right, but even that, Hinami still refused to leave this place.
As the steamy water was poured, a strong fragrance arouse as it spread out on ground coffee. Both Miza and Naki seemed to enjoy this sudden aroma, yet as Hinami peeked at Ayato, it seemed he was meditating and just watched her movements in silence.
Ayato didn’t talk too much, but it felt different when he was completely wordless. Perhaps he thought about something.
“Done, have a taste.”
Hinami poured the coffee into the cup, and served it to Ayato. He didn’t react immediately after Hinami called him, as he was drooling, he answered with an “Oh” then took the coffee.
“……”
Ayato sipped, slowly.
“……”
“How…… is it tastes?”
Hinami asked the silent Ayato.
“……Why you want to brew the coffee, all of the sudden?”
Ayato asked, eyes straight at the coffee.
Maybe from his view, Hinami’s act was too unexpected and no context at all.
“I want to show you my appreciation.”
“Appreciation?”
Returned from his seemed mind wandering state, Ayato focused his sight on Hinami.
“Because I always making troubles for you.”
“……”
Ayato stared down at the coffee again, put it against his lips, and finished it in silence.
Then he putted the empty cup down, said:
“……I’ll buy more new beans.”
Tumblr media
No thought about the flavor, yet what he just said showed his thought about this completely.
“I’ll brew for you next time, too!”
Even if hiding under the branches of the grand tree, living a life in the lightless shadow, but there will be light waiting at ahead. This thought magnificently emerged from Hinami’s heart.
This gave her a bit of courage.
Thus she started made the last cup of coffee.
She held the cup, walked into the deepest of the tree.
“Excuse me……”
The woman who wrapped with bandages, walking smoothly while enjoying the night’s wind was the one who invited Hinami to join the Aogiri Tree, Takatsuki Sen, aka Eto. Noro, as always, were with her like her own shadow. They both should know Hinami’s existence, yet ignored her completely.
“Eh……”
Hinami squeezed some voice out again, finally caught Eto’s attention.
“Anything I can help, little Hina?”
Hinami handed coffee to Eto, who was giggling.
“This……I made it…… care to have a try?”
Hinami tried to make a smile, to cover her stiffed face.
Eto jumped from the tree with a sound of “TON”, landed aside Hinami, looking at her coffee with some interst.
The air suddenly became heavier, even breathing seemed to be difficult. All Hinami could do was endure.
Eto finally took the coffee cup. Just when Hinami thought she was about to drink it—
“Ah!”
The cup turned upside down in front of Hinami.
The coffee inside fell on the floor, splashed. Some drips landed on Hinami’s feet.
Tumblr media
Eto released her hand, let the cup shattered onto the floor that covered with coffee.
CRACK
“Thanks for your trouble.”
That sound, it’s not just the cup that cracked.
Eto giggled, left with the steps as she was dancing.
Until her figure vanished completely, then Hinami fell on the floor.
She opened her mouth, seemed wanted to say something, but ended up with no words.
The coffee that was steamy turned lukewarm, then died coldly.
The dim light that just emerged were tainted, covered by depress.
Maybe one day, I myself will rotten on the roots of this Tree, and become the nutrition for it.

Hey, I saw your tags on the ladywongs post, so I just wanted to know your opinion about the latest touka/mutsuki. honestly, I feel it unnecessarily complicated something so simple and it made me feel violated, cause I feel like I loved a character that was not touka. Do you perhaps...have an insight you wanna share?
Well, I was grateful for the shoutout that meta gave me and I’ve been a fan of a lot of metas that writer has produced, but this one in particular I very much disagreed with. I think the claim that Touka loves the idea of Kaneki while not really understanding the person ignores the fact that every time she’s made a serious observation about Kaneki she’s been bang on the money.
Tumblr media
If she idolises Kaneki so, why has she made such a damning assessment about him? And it’s not just an assessment of the changed Shironeki that she resents, it extends to the Kuroneki she supposedly idolises as well. And what’s more, she’s completely right. This is even acknowledged by Kaneki himself.
Tumblr media
Touka doesn’t idolise an image of Kaneki. Far from it. The chapter on the bridge is titled “Penetration” because Touka sees past the roles Kaneki plays to the scared kid inside. At this point, she probably has the best understanding of Kaneki than anyone in the series - maybe even more than Hide. For further proof, Touka knows at a FREAKING GLANCE just what Kaneki intends to do to himself when they meet up at Cochlea.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
If this was just a casual “Seeya”, do you think it would be all Touka would say to him after all this time? She can tell Kaneki has no intention of making it out alive, so the first thing she does is to remind him that his death won’t affect him alone, and it very clearly shakes him up; setting him on the path to choose to live. Just like how their confrontation on the bridge convinced Kaneki to go back to Anteiku, if not quite in time.
Tumblr media
Touka’s not being unreasonable because the Kaneki she idolised has changed. She’s mad because Kaneki’s going down a path of self-destruction, and it does destroy him. In the last quarter of the first manga the narrative breaks its back pointing out that Kaneki’s gone too far down the Shironeki path - it’s not just Touka, it’s also Yoshimura, Nishiki, even resident devil on Kaneki’s shoulder Shuu, not to mention events like Kaneki stabbing Banjou, seeing Rize crazed and helpless, and all the foreshadowing packed into ‘The Hanged Man’s McGuffin’. Touka is trying to help Kaneki because she genuinely does know what’s best for him because she genuinely understands him. I don’t think anyone would try to claim that convincing Kaneki to live at Cochlea was a bad thing either.
Now if Touka is ‘obsessed’ with Kaneki, if it can’t possibly be love because they only knew each other for two months, then it would stand to reason that Kaneki would be far, far more important to Touka than she would be for him.
Tumblr media
Then why is it that in Kaneki’s mind, after only knowing Touka for two months and Hide for all his life, Touka is on equal footing with Hide? He includes the whole of Anteiku in the above panel, but Touka gets special mention with Hide in the next.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And here, in his dying moments, Touka gets the biggest panel, placed on the next page for the biggest effect. Touka is just as important to Kaneki as vice-versa.
But neither is ‘obsessed’ with the other.
Touka broke into Cochlea to save Hinami, not Kaneki. She didn’t even know he was there. She most definitely has a life outside Kaneki and her love for him is far from all-consuming. While he had lost his memories, she was fully willing to accept the possibility she might never talk to him again. She might love him, but if she was obsessed and didn’t have a life outside of him, there’s no way she could make a sacrifice like that even if her aim was selflessness. Yoshimura loved his daughter, and set up Anteiku anticipating her return, but he had a life outside of her too. It’s the same with Touka.
The original post tries to dismiss Touka’s feelings being a healthy form of love by comparing it to spending three years dedicating yourself to a co-worker who you knew for two months, but dumbing it down to their official relationship and a span of time removes an enormous amount of context to explain why she feels this way. In real life, you wouldn’t have fought side-by-side with your co-worker in life-threatening situations time and time again. These kind of high-pressure environments cause bonds and trust to become much much thicker much more quickly. “Summer friends will melt away like summer snows, but winter friends are friends forever”.
Sure Touka sees Arata in Kaneki. That’s not a bad thing at all. Arata was a great dude. Having an Arata in your life is a real positive thing, and there’s absolutely no reason why Touka shouldn’t chase it. People are hardwired to get with people who remind them of their parents - it’s in our genetic programming, it doesn’t diminish the love they feel for that person or make them love them less for who they are in the slightest. Trying to heal the wounds of old losses by emotionally investing yourself in new people is totally healthy - the unhealthy thing would be to shut yourself off from the world, just like Touka was doing at the start of the manga - a rut Kaneki helped her out of. It would be bad if she were just pretending that Kaneki was Arata, but she isn’t - she behaves totally differently around him and she has demonstrated many times an understanding of those personality traits Kaneki possesses that are completely different from Arata’s. It would be problematic if Kaneki got with someone who reminded him of his mother (read: Rize) because his mother was a horrible person; but Touka, even if she occasionally throws a hit at him (a product of her upbringing which is very rare nowadays - also Kaneki is nowhere near as vulnerable in this situation as he was a child, he’s the OEK for crying out loud), constantly gives Kaneki both the emotional attention and the hard truths that he needs.
This panel:
Tumblr media
Is unambiguously a good thing. Touka’s development was never about growing into herself without the need for others, because she was already like that at the start of the manga. Touka’s development was about rediscovering the humanity she cast aside to protect herself from pain, and then balancing that with the strength she found with being a Ghoul. The first stage was greatly aided by Kaneki - whom she indeed admired, but never idolised - and the second stage she completed herself.
Mutsuki’s love is a different beast entirely than Touka’s love. Mutsuki’s focus on Touka was precisely to emphasise Mutsuki’s jealousy, because Mutsuki recognises the bond Kaneki and Touka share. Mutsuki’s feelings are not meant to parallel Touka’s, but tie in with the other complicated entanglements of this arc, showcasing different kinds of love. I do strongly believe we’ll get both Touken and Akiramon resolutions soon, and positive ones too; the negativity around love this arc has displayed to us so far is set up to make those two relationships shine brighter.
So don’t worry anon, just because a meta says Touka is different from how you think about her doesn’t mean it’s right - it’s all a matter of interpretation. No one person’s opinion is automatically more important than another (except in this case maybe Sui Ishida - and maybe not even then, if you adhere to Death Of The Author literary theory), your analysis is just as valid as anyone else’s if you can argue it with evidence.
But even so, I am very much of the opinion in this fandom that if you see any meta that tries to claim that none of the main characters have developed at all since the start of the manga, take it with approximately this much salt:

Translated from Ishida’s tumblr post (X):
How should I put it
I’ve been drawing all kinds of illustrations recently, from work I’m doing now to non-work related stuff. And among them there are some I want to upload, but I keep thinking, “but it’s off-topic if I upload this on Twitter”, which has led to start wondering, just what is considered “on-topic”?
Hmm, is Ishida Sui’s account dedicated to just TG? But the art of Connor I posted a few days ago has nothing to do with me...No, it does have something to do with me. Since it’s from a game I played. I mean, if it’s something I drew, it should by all means have something to do with me, right? Then what criteria should I use to determine that? Should it have some kind of connection with the person looking at the illustration? Of course, when I uploaded that art of Connor, I don’t want people to think, “who the hell’s that android dude with the LED ring embedded in his temple?”, just “Hey, it’s Connor”...wait, do I really want people to think that? I wish people wouldn't think about it so much...So that means having a connection with the person looking at it has nothing to do with me.
How should I put this, if I upload an illustration for a specific reason...no, when I make a remark that's all that can be said, even if there weren’t any intention behind it, it feels like people imagine some kind of intention anyways. I uploaded it because I drew it, nothing more to it. I may not have any clear intentions behind it, someone else may feel kind of intention from it, but I don't want there to be any intentions behind it. Can something exist with zero intentions? I just did it out of a wish to upload it. Or is there no difference between intentions and wishes?
I'm going to keep thinking about it, so for now it'll be difficult for me to upload illustrations on social media. The reason why I began thinking all this in the first place might be because even though there are tons of places to upload art, none of it currently matches my needs. A place where I can post art with ease, and have it be easy to view would be nice. Tumblr is harder to use than you'd expect. And it'd be a pain to make a new account. I guess blogs are going to be the next generation. Personal sites are good too, they feel very nostalgic. They give off an underground vibe...I think I'll definitely make a hidden link. Then post a manga about links jumping underground. And the main character's face will look like a penis...wait, the data for that is already...
Looks like I went off-topic. But really, this is technically on-topic anyways cause it's about me, right? Below are illustrations I drew that have absolutely nothing to do with anyone. (they're just related to table RPGs.)

Amon: One Eyed King of Clowns
Tumblr media
What is this exactly? An introduction of another one eyed king when the manga just went through an arc establishing two other ones. Eto’s words on the king would have led you to believe that it was only one individual, but as others @hysyartmaskstudio have pointed out, rather than a prophecy for one destined person to step into the mantle it’s just a title in the end.
Then, if Amon were to become king what exactly would he become king of? There’s only two factions remaining in this fight, the ghouls fighting for independence already have sworn their loyalty to Kaneki and the Furuta is currently vying for control of the CCG with no competitors.
Having three one eyed kings sounds like the role might even get a little crowded. After all there are only two active players in a game of chess, one on the black side and one on the white. That is until you realize counting Arima (Arima, Kaneki, Furuta Amon) that there is actually the capability of four kings, if you compare this to another game.
Tumblr media
In a deck of cards, there are four kings, one of diamonds, hearts, spades, and jacks. Not only that, but the suit that Amon inhibits, the king of diamonds is known as a one eyed king due to the way the face is drawn as a silhouette with only one eye showing. A style of drawing that is explicitly referenced wit the way Donato is drawn in his trump card.
If Amon were to succeed Donato’s position though, he would become the one eyed king of clown. Though it seems the last position a character like Amon would inhabit, there’s actually a lot of evidence for it which I’ll elaborate on below.
This is going to be split into two sections. The first will be Donato’s role in making Amon his king, the second will be Amon’s possible motivation for becoming king.
1. Donato
So far there is no established leader of the clowns despite much speculation on the subject. The closest shown as a de facto leader is Donato, who not only goes by the name “SS Clown” which indicates he of all people has a strong connection to the clowns to be almost synonymous with them, but also his own mask depicts a crown on the area of his forehead with crosses sewn over his eyes. Which is imagery heavily reminiscent of a king.
Tumblr media
Uta also, went out of his way to retreive Donato of all people before going to meet ‘the king’. Which in this case they seem to be referring to Furuta. When Furuta also claims to have the clowns in his hand, Donato is shown as a representative of the ‘Clown Crown’.
Tumblr media
Finally, this is how Donato is shown in the Root A ending card “Childhood” which was explicitly drawn by Ishida Sui. Note how even though both of his eyes are colored red, only one of them is darkened as a Kakugan would be.
Tumblr media
Donato seems to be indicated as the current leader of the clowns. This is however, the arc of the moon and nothing appears as it seems. Both Furuta’s supposed control of the clowns, and Donato’s position of authority within them could be shallow illusions that could fade out quickly. Urie even points out that Donato’s given reason for who the clowns are following is not a real one, it sounds flippant at best. Donato is not a bad liar either, if he really wanted to he could have told Urie a convincing lie.
Tumblr media
I find it more likely though he was erring on the side of truth. That the clowns love famous people, or rather the clowns love narrative. Somebody had to write [RE] on that container after all, and who but the clowns would actually love to sew some foreshadowing into their real life.
I posit this, the clowns are setting up a narrative within the events of Tokyo Ghoul over who will succeed as their next king. Furuta is even cooperating with it, which would be the reason for the Clown’s loyalty and willingness to die en masse for him. He’s promised to put them on quite the show.
Tumblr media
Donato is however, the main man writing this narrative. He’s the character of the clowns who thinks of himself the most like an author, as it allows him to exert control over his reality after being behind bars for so many years. After all, in this scene who was Donato most remind you of.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
What Donato and Eto are both attacking is the narrative that Urie and Kanae both have set up in their own minds. The two of them have both been working with a flawed narrative that was fragile to begin with. Urie was working fromt he narrative that what he was doing was out of pure love and loyalty towards his father, and blaming everyone else for his father’s death but his own. Kanae was working from the narrative of everything they were doing was out of pure love for Shuu, and thus blaming every outside circumstance for Shuu’s worsening condition but his own.
Donato and Eto simply revise the narrative. While they are not speaking the truth per se, they reveal the element that both characters have long been in denial of. When that happens, both Urie and Kanae broke to the point that they no longer trusted their own judgement or dictated their own narrative, but rather let Donato and Eto take control.
While Donato is not an author, he is an enertainer and what’s more an observer of people. He is just as people savvy as Eto is, and it’s very likely he realized the narrative purpose of the one eyed king and set out to use it for his own gain. What exactly could Donato want though? As the clowns motivations are vague at best. Donato though has been consistently shown to have one thing he cares about, to the point of being reminded about it recently.
Tumblr media
Therefore, what if Donato is the one making Amon important in the narrative of the one eyed king. Essentially he would be making Amon “A Main Character” then, the kind of person the clowns would flock behind. After all, there was much speculation on what Donato could possibly be referring to when he hinted that Amon would be the one to bring Kaneki’s memories back, when it turned out to be Eto in the end.
Tumblr media
Perhaps rather than knowing what would happen next, Donato was simply trying to arrange things this way. He liked Sasaki in a way, or at least viewed him as a main character the same way the rest of the clowns did. Therefore by associating Amon with him, he was hoping Amon would rise up to become a main character as well. So therefore when Amon refused to appear onscreen, and hid for the majority of the plot, that was not simple bad writing or Ishida forgetting about the importance of his character, but rather that was subversion. More on that later, though.
The final piece of evidence connecting the two is the narrative of how the one eyed king ascends. Every king so far, has taken the title after killing a father.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Donato and Amon’s father son conflict however, has existed much longer than even Arima and Kaneki’s, going back all the way to original Tokyo Ghoul. Therefore that’s all the more reason for the clear path to be laid out in front of him. All Amon needs to do is confront his own father, and become the king. Then the question in, why hasn’t he yet?
2. Amon
One of the most common complaints of Amon has been his writing so far in Tokyo Ghoul: RE, or rather his lack of relevance. This is especially easy to spot because Amon has every reason to be relevant in the RE. Not only was Kaneki occupying his former position as investigator for the longest time, but many of RE:’s characters on the CCG side knew Amon, and knew he was a legendary investigator. He also sat on information that Eto had revealed to him about the Sphinx corporation, and by this point is likely to have figured out the CCG’s corruption. All the ducks are in a row as one would say. Everybody has been looking to the writing to blame for Amon’s lack of relevance in the arcs so far, but what if the answer lies more in his character instead.
Tumblr media
What if Takizawa is not lying or exaggerating here, and all Amon has done is scurry in the shadows rather than take definitive action. Isn’t it a bit strange as well, that Takizawa has been given a full narrative arc and ample screentime compared to Amon, even though originally Takizawa was a much more minor character.
Though if you take the wants of the main characters into perspective again it makes sense. Takizawa wants to be a main character.
Tumblr media
As a part of my statement, I am going to argue that Amon, does not want to be a main character. This arc, the arc of the moon, of revealing liars and hypocrites is an excellent backdrop to be establishing that point.
First though, the card Amon has been associated with. This has already been covered in an excellent meta by @pipirupirulance, to quote:
In the Minor Tarot Arcana the Pentacles has the same value as the Jack Diamonds.
And the Knight of Pentacles is described like this:
“The Knight is engaged in the often toilsome, routine efforts required to realise the dreams of his heart. He is building the foundations to support his dreams and his goals.”
Knight of Pentacles represent the people who are methodical and put all their efforts in their believes, and they can focused in the success of this goal. They’re responsable persons, and people can relay in them because of this. They’re hard workers, patient and trustworthy persons. They also have a perfectionist side, they have done all the job and usually never do a thing without finish it.
But (remember the “but” that i mentioned before) The Knight of Pentacles is the only Knight that isn’t moving. He’s cautious, and he’s thinking in the present and future events and how his actions will affect the coming events. It’s like a soldier waiting for orders.
Amon is definitely somebody who is both a person who “Puts all their efforts in their beliefs” but also acts like “a soldier waiting for orders.” That is what made him such a succesful member of the CCG that he moved forward passionately, but at the same time always obeyed orders. To talk about narratives again, this is Amon’s great strength, but also his flaw. Once he is sure of himself he barrels ahead at full speed, but at the same time if he is not sure of himself he cannot take a single step. In the narrative of the CCG this problem was not as present because Amon did not have to think for himself. He could simply live on the narrative the Washuu provided for him.
Tumblr media
However, as a ghoul Amon is no longer a part of that framework. Eto succinctly points this out, “He was”, now Amon being part ghoul not even by his own choice is entirely disqualified from that. Unfair right? However, this reflects Amon’s own beliefs on how former humans turned into ghouls should be judged.
Tumblr media
Amon even asks in the face of being force fed, and ghoulified.
Tumblr media
Though the answer to that is simple, if you look at it in narrative terms. Amon is experiencing narrative Karma, because he has yet to come to a truth. His karma comes in the form of the tables turning on him, and him being subjected to every horror he put ghouls through within Tokyo Ghoul while dismissing them as an evil who needs to be exterminated. He looked down on ghouls for needing to eat humans, then he is force fed human flesh itself. He wore the Arata armor without realizing it was harvested by a kind hearted dad who went out of his way not to hurt people despite being a ghoul, and now Amon was captured and harvested by the CCG in a similiar manner.
That is how the rules of a tragedy work. A character has a certain grace period where they are not subject to the consequences of their actions, Romeo and Juliet are allowed to fall in love, Hamlet is allowed to stall on avenging his father for a great time, then suddenly it will all come crashing down and the consequences hit you all at once.
What did Amon do to receive such narrative consequences though, he was after all estabilshed as one of the most honest and kind hearted characters in original Tokyo Ghoul. A man who lives solely for the pursuit of justice. This is the moon arc after all, and certain things have just now been revealed about Amon’s character that puts him entirely in a different light.
Tumblr media
it was long believed that Amon felt guilt for not realizing who Donato was until it was too late. That his sin was buying into the dream of having a family, and the moment he discovered children in the basement, he turned Donato into the CCG and Donato surrendered and allowed himself to be imprisoned. Therefore what he was repenting for was ignorance. This narrative is very generous on Amon’s side, as it makes him look quite noble in the face of what is now known as reality.
Tumblr media
This, and also the image of Amon cowering in the basement not from Donato but from the CCG officer’s sent to liberate him, while Donato kept him hidden there points to the fact that Amon most likely accepted Donato’s original offer of playing family. An offer that most of the fandom thought Amon’s strong moral fiber would have immediately rejected.
Tumblr media
The fact that Amon followed in Donato’s lie willingly (well, Donato still had authority in the circumstance and this was most definitely coercion, but there was still a choice to be made) completely changes his character, and what his sin is.
The narrative constructed by Amon is that he lives to repent his sin for ignorance, and therefore in his adult life he has to make up for his sin by living only for justice. Amon’s justice, is violent and comes in the form of hunting down ghouls who, like his father, he sees as making the world wrong particularly for eating humans and creating orphans and lost family members.
Even in that summary alone, the projection is quite obvious, but if you needed more help on what Amon’s motivation really is, Donato already conveniently spells it out for us.
“What a pitiful child. Just because your father died, you continue to fight. Your misfortunes, are all your father’s doing. You fight to till you’re basically in pieces... You can’t eat a thing. You choose to do these things? You wanted him to acknowledge you, didn’t you? Wanted him to pat your head in approval. And you’ve tried to make those vestigial dreams come true, by smashing them against your surroundings. Absolutely futile. No matter how much you get promoted, no matter how grand of a legacy you leave behind you, you will never feel whole. Because you do not have a real family.
Donato Porpora, 110 That Pages 11-12
Eto’s quote becomes even more relevant in this instance. “He was, you mean” nothing Amon fought for was lasting, because he never wanted any of that in the first place. What he was looking for was not justice, but rather a motivation to keep living. A reason he survived after doing an evil thing and collaborating with Donato. Just like Kaneki and Furuta, Amon is a traumatized child who has yet to grow up, and Donato is the stop gap that prevents him from accessing full masculine adult maturity no matter how strong or tall his body is, or how loyal he is to the system.
Tumblr media
Amon, who cannot even remember the faces of his own parents because Donato has completely supplemented them in his own mind, simply wants a family. Even his current stated mission of saving his old comrades, was done because he came to view the CCG as a surrogate family as well, “his last refuge.” At the core of his character he’s simply looking for the a place to belong, the same as Urie. The both of them just mistake gaining strength and accomplishments, for having the same security as that family. That it will work as a substitute, but it will not. The characters parallel each other so strongly on that front, that is why Donato was the one to take down Urie, why Urie was the one to fight Amon, why in the most recent chapter of RE: 111, they both call out an overpowering kagune at the same time and attack what is nearest to them.
The moon brings out the shadow of characters. What is Amon’s shadow then? Look what many believed to be Amon’s role in aogiri. That he escaped, and has since then been fighting them, with the actual truth.
Tumblr media
Amon simply did nothing, waited to die, an then was freed instead. However, without a narrative to compel him, without a place to belong and most likely with scarecrow as his only ally Amon continued to do nothing. Those who expected Amon to suddenly drop into the plot and become a major player did not realize that Amon cannot take a step forward until he has resolved many of his own issues. It’s his greatest character flaw, his inability to be sure of himself causes him to hesitate at the most important times.
Perhaps he advised Saiko to continue to think, because after being ghoulified that is what Amon gave up on for the longest time. Perhaps even in giving Seidou his cross, his burden to carry and proof of the sin that kept him alive he was content to die there. As stated above though, the narrative is not done with Amon yet.
Once Amon does confront Donato, probably in a way that parallels Arima and Kaneki he will be given affirmation that he can indeed live, and was loved truly by his father figure. That was enough for Kaneki to continue living and step up to become the one eyed king, and as his foil Amon will most likely follow suit. Except the source of his affirmation for living, and the people most invested in setting up his narrative are not the CCG, and not even the people aligned with Kaneki, but rather the clowns. Which makes it most likely that Amon will be the one to step up and meet their leadership. Perhaps he’ll be using their great manpower and strange collected influence to enforce what he believes is his own ideals, perhaps the clowns will just be using him for theirs.
One last piece of evidence. In the one shot, Kaneki as a character functions more like a fusion between the Kaneki and Amon we now know. Kaneki’s quiet nature, but with Amon’s devotion to justice and correcting the wrong world, right from the start. This Kaneki wears a clown mask. However Kaneki has never himself associated with the clowns, he’s just been one of their interesting characters. If this character’s narrative purpose was later split into Kaneki and Amon, perhaps Amon will be the one then to don this mask and become the leader of the clowns Notice how this mask also has a cross for one eye the same way Donato’s does.
Tumblr media
But it definitely will happen. Clown King Amon, I’m calling it now.

IT’S MAY Y’ALL. Even though I’ll still be doing blog posts in May, it’s not going to be as hectic, as I finally finished my second year of university and have decided to take it easy after a very packed April.
I’m also doing things a little different with my wrap up this month by getting rid of star ratings. I watched a video on it, and I just feel like I’d rather people go by my actual comments on the books than look at the rating and decide that covers all my thoughts. I still have star ratings on Goodreads for my own personal use, but I’m doing my best to start writing proper summaries of my thoughts from now on!
READING WRAP UP
Tropic of Serpents by Marie Brennan– a solid follow up to the first book, although there’s a startling lack of dragons in a series about a dragon naturalist! Definitely go into this one expecting a lot more politics than book 1, and Isabella starting a lot of Drama.
The Elementals by Michael McDowell– such an amazing horror novel! McDowell is so underrated for a writer who wrote predominantly in the seventies and eighties, and it’s so tragic how young he died.
Princess Jellyfish Volume 1 by Akiko Higashimura– such a disappointing read. It’s really problematic, to the point where it drastically impacted my enjoyment of the plot, especially when I’ve got so many other more recent manga I could be enjoying more than this.
Fullmetal Alchemist Volume 8 by Hiromu Arakawa– speaking of next tier manga… holy shit. I am so scared of volume 9 and finishing this series, it’s meant so much to me and it’s really helped me immerse myself fully in reading manga.
Lumberjanes Volume 9 by Shannon Watters– Barney is a precious precious bean and I love them! This is a roller derby volume, and it was pretty great: I’ve been a fan of roller derby since I first watched Whip It, and this volume was super entertaining!
Lumberjanes Volume 10 by Shannon Watters– wholesome volume where the parents come to visit their kids. I do feel really sad for Molly, but it was nice seeing everyone else’s parents!
Lumberjanes: A Midsummer Night’s Scheme by Nicole Andelfinger– this was a fun bonus one shot comic. However, it does get very cheesy and it’s whole message is just so obvious  that them explaining it was very much unneeded.
Smut Peddler Volume 1 by Various Authors– this is a fun anthology of smut comics that I super enjoyed reading. E.K. Weaver’s comic is by far my favourite, and it’s only after I realised that it was a one shot about a character in her webcomic!
Rumple Buttercup BY Matthew Gray Gubler– a very cute children’s graphic novel about loving yourself and finding acceptance!
Smut Peddler Volume 2 by Various Authors– this wasn’t as good as volume 1, but I still read it really quickly and had a fun time looking at the different art styles and methods of story telling!
Dream Daddy by Various Authors– there are so many good moments in this comic, it’s so great. Highly recommend if you’ve played the game, and if you haven’t, check it out, it’s real fun! Damien and Robert’s issue was by far my favourite as they were my favourites in the game too.
Tokyo Ghoul Volume 5 by Sui Ishida– finally, I’m starting to enjoy Tokyo Ghoul. It took a while this volume to actually understand what the hell was happening, but once I did, it really did become something I enjoyed.
Rick and Morty VS Dungeons and Dragons by Patrick Rothfuss– A decent enough read, although there is way too much dialogue and exposition on every page. The font is really small, too, so reading it was a hassle.
Meddling Kids by Edgar Cantero– this book was actually terrible and I have a whole review discussing my issues and how harmful it is!
Jackass! Volume 1 by Scarlet Beriko– This is a funny, sweet manga about fetishes and blackmail. It has an age gap romance between an 18 year old and a doctor, and there is some transphobic bullying/weird treatment of bullying being okay if the person has a crush on you, but the main relationship is great, and the MC has a really lovely relationship with his older sister.
Batwoman: Elegy by Greg Rucka– Chronicles the Alice Batwoman arc from Detective Comics, as well as giving the backstory for Kate. It’s so great having a badass DC hero who is a lesbian, whose storyline also touches on homophobia in the ‘don’t ask don’t tell’ era of the military. Glad I finally got to this!
Sparrowhawk #5 by Delilah S Dawson– a really disappointing series conclusion overall. I knew I should’ve just stopped reading after the first issue and I wasn’t feeling it, and I honestly wish I had after such a dissatisfying conclusion. Others may enjoy this, but it really wasn’t for me.
Assassination Classroom Volume 1 by Yusei Matsui— an amazing series starter! Already really moving with a teacher who spends all his time encouraging his students despite being a threat to the entire world they have to kill within the year. I have a feeling this will become a new favourite.
I’ll Be Gone in the Dark by Michelle McNamara– really great non-fiction read written by a journalist who played a massive part in the resurgence of talk surrounding the Golden State Killer. You also get some of her life story, and by the end I was almost in disbelief that the author had already died by the time her work was published. I will say it did drag at points, especially in the parts not written by McNamara that had to be finished after she died, but overall a really thorough look into the cases and the victims.
The Woods Volume 5 by James Tynion IV– this series is- dare I say it- picking up? I still have issues with the representation and the fact that most of the main characters to have died, especially in this volume, were POC while the white characters are in the exact same situation and survive. Will have to see if this carries on.
Backwards & In Heels by Alicia Malone– this started off strong, and I found out so much about women in film and their presence in the industry since the creation of film in the 1800’s. However, by the end it got so repetitive and formulaic in the way information was presented that I started skimming. This is more of a coffee-table, occasional-read book when you fancy learning more about amazing women! Also, even though there is diverse rep and talk of lack of hiring of WOC and LGBT+ women in the industry, we also get the author praising white women earlier on in the book who took on roles where they did blackface and yellowface, which really dulled down the conversation in the latter half of the book.
My Love Story!! Volume 6 by Kazune Kawahara– so GOOD. I got so emotional reading this volume, I ended up crying. This is by far one of my favourite manga series, I can’t recommend it enough. It follows tough-but-soft boy Takeo as he enters into a relationship with Yamato, cutest girl in the universe, with the support of his best friend Suna. Truly the PEAK of romantic comedy fiction.
When the Sky Fell on Splendor by Emily Henry– emotional, hardhitting read about a group of friends who end up with superpowers after discovering a strange alien object. It’s very reminiscent of the film Super 8 in my head, and if you love stories about not only aliens but found families through friendship, highly recommend!
The Hound of the Baskervilles by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle– I just don’t think Sherlock Holmes is for me. I love the retellings and adaptations, and in theory, I’m invested in the murder mysteries, but I just think Doyle’s prose weighs it down and there’s always that underlying racism I don’t think is appropriate to even attempt to shake.
And my May TBR Jar pick is…. MY HEART GOES BANG by Keris Stainton!
TV SHOWS/MOVIES/VIDEOS
At the start of the month, I started bingeing Dead Meat videos, a channel entirely revolving around horror. My personal favourite series is the Saw kill count videos, and the movies that changed horror podcast episode James (the host) does with his girlfriend Chelsea (who is amazing)!
I finally watched season 2 of Stranger Things! I adore Steve, as always, and it was such a solid season (BOB). However I did have an issue with the needless rivalry that festered with Elle towards Max, season 3 better sort that and stop pitting girls against each other for no reason other than because of boys.
Zoe from Read by Zoe was on FIRE this month with some really great read-a-thon videos! I loved her 24 read-a-thon vlog especially, she read only books she enjoyed growing up and it all felt really nostalgic.
This is very much a personal one, but my favourite streamer returned to a podcast with the company he used to work for, and it was just…. so heartwarming to watch. I can’t believe he left four years ago! I’ve been watching this company since I was about fourteen, so it was so nice watching this, a long-awaited reunion.
Kat at paperbackdreams did an amaaaaazing video rant reviewing After by Anna Todd, and I loved it. In general Kat is a top tier booktuber for me, I highly recommend her videos as much as I can!
