I am once again asking for the solarpunk community to pay attention to the Wholesome Direct
Full list of games with links under the cut. For the purposes of this list, I tried to single out games that (at least appear to) focus on nature, technology, and community. That said, I don’t think there was a single loser in the entire direct and I can’t list them all, so go watch it yourself!
Solarpunk: Survival game in a technically advanced world of floating islands. Alone or together with your friends, you can construct buildings, grow food, craft gadgets and hop on your airship to explore distant islands in the sky.
Station to Station: A minimalist & relaxing game about building railway connections. Grab your conductor’s hat and bring the voxel-art world to life through the magic of trains!
Smushi Come Home: Play as a tiny lil' mushroom who's lost in the forest and can't find its way home. Explore unique areas freely at your own pace, chat with friendly inhabitants, and take on different adventures to get back home!
Flutter Away: A short nature exploration game set in a cozy nook of the Amazon rainforest. Explore nearby tracks, take photos, meet animal friends and journal your discoveries!
Kamaeru: Foster a sanctuary for frogs and restore the biodiversity of the wetlands in Kamaeru, a cozy farming sim where you raise frogs by playing mini-games and decorating your habitat. Hop right to it!
Kibu: A tranquil adventure in the heart of the wilderness. As a solitary monk you must build a temple, brew delicious teas, and journey into the wilds seeking out ancient spirits. Carve out your own special corner of home in a beautiful, mysterious land.
The Guardian of Nature: An exploration adventure and puzzle game. Go with the botanist Henry on a magical journey to save the mother tree. Use your ability to change in size to explore nature from big to small and solve solarpunk puzzles to put nature back in order.
Townseek: Embark on a journey across the world of Explora and discover the lost legacy of Sir Reginald Sharkingston! Discover exotic landmarks, trade with faraway towns, fish, mine, and farm as you complete your journal and make a name for yourself!
Diluvian Winds: A management game set in a small hamlet at the foot of a lighthouse. Welcome weary travelers and help each other to try and survive the unpredictable weather. Grow your hamlet on land, under the sea or among the clouds.
Loftia: A Solarpunk MMO game set on a floating city in the sky! (keep your eyes on this one. no official website yet but it’s set to have a kickstarter and pre-alpha soon)

Build the Universe in Bubblegum Galaxy, Releasing in 2023
Tile by tile, you are in charge of designing the galaxy in Bubblegum Galaxy. Place matching tiles together to complete missions and develop entire planets. There are stats for high scores, ranks and time played on each one. That all sounds simple and fun but somebody deleted the entire galaxy!

Wholesome Games Direct 2023: 5 Gems From Summer's Coziest Showcase
Though the Wholesome Direct was dripping with wishlistable titles, I'm shouting out 5 that caught my eye.
With around eighty games in its show this year, if you blinked during the Wholesome Games Direct you might have missed something. The entire showcase packed the multitude of titles into about forty minutes and featured everything from tabletop-inspired games to laid-back adventures. It’s worth watching the entire showcase, but here are my thoughts on this year’s shining stars.

Thinking-
about a Pacific Rim AU where Simon and Johnny are in love and together, but not drift compatible. They’re both right side pilots, stronger and more dominant over their left side counterparts, and in a Jaeger, they just don’t work.
It’s all well and good, until Simon’s co-pilot of almost five years is killed. All that work, all that time… wasted.
Simon could kill him himself, if some poor sod didn’t already do the job.
Their captain starts the process of finding a replacement, cranking through cadets in an attempt to find a very specific person, a very specific brain capable of completing a neural bridge with Simon, until they finally stumble upon you.
Johnny is thrilled. He reads your file, pours over your record, drinks up every detail available, all before ever laying eyes on you. He finds your social media, your hometown paper, education record, service record, the works. You’re a shiny, smart, capable yang to Simon’s yin. You’ll be perfect.
A perfect match, he thinks. Thank fucking Christ.
But…
Simon instantly dislikes you. You’re too bright, sunshine abrasive in the dark of his life. He’s dismissive and stand offish, irritated by the fact command did not allow him and Johnny to even try drifting again, instead choosing to place him with a complete stranger shipped to his doorstep from halfway around the world. He doesn’t want you crawling around in his brain. He doesn’t want his memories to become yours, and vice versa. He doesn’t want you in his- their life. He wants you to fuck off.
It beats you down. You weren’t sure what to expect, but it wasn’t this. A co-pilot who can’t even look at you? Who dismisses you at every turn? It’s awful. You had heard stories about the Ghost, sure… but didn’t expect him to be so resistant to a new partner.
It’s so awful, you get pissed drunk one night. End up in a dark dive bar, licking your wounds and moaning to yourself about how all your training, all your work, is going to be for nothing. You’re going to fail. You’ll never pilot a Jaeger, because your co-pilot is too resistant, too controlling, won’t even try. It sucks.
So, okay. You have a little pity party. You try to drown your sorrows, and the guy next to you is very, very sympathetic. He listens to you cry about it, empathizes with your struggle and tries to commiserate with you.
It helps, of course, that he’s gorgeous. Blue eyes, golden like a god, long strands of mohawk perfectly framing his sheer bone structure.
“Dinnae worry, hen. ‘M sure he’ll come around. He’s just got to get to know ye s’more.” He coos, pressing a blazing hot thigh against yours with a wink. You lean a little bit into him, let him trace his fingertips down your spine, across your neck.
You’re so distracted, you don’t know the mass of a man wearing a mask, sitting in the shadows. Watching.
