I’m choosing only leads or mains or icons showing up in other shows.

A Man Who Defies the Wold of BL 2 feat Izuka Kenta from the Pornographer (AKA the Novelist) series - I love this one because he’s an iconic character in the Novelist, a college kid seduced and gaslit by an older man, where as in ABL2 he plays the opposite, a seductive older man who messes around with the heart of a younger one. Japan is, as usual, being very trixy. (He ALSO shows up in Ameiro Paradox)

Kieta Hatsukoi AKA My Love Mix-Up! feat Shirasu Jin from Life Love On The Line - Japan being cheeky again by putting an actor who perviously played a character who could not come to terms with his sexuality, having a real hard time coming to terms with someone else’s sexuality this time around.

Secret Crush on You feat Saint from Love By Chance & Why R U? (Thailand) - yes he’s got a producer credit, it was still fun to see him pop in and smile.

Cutie Pie feat BounPrem from Until We Meet Again (+others) - they came, they shilled for marriage equality in Thailand, they conquered.

What’s Zabb Man feat Bas from 2 Moons (+others) - yes, Thailand’s Star Hunter studio does a lot of crossovers, but I found this one particularly amusing.

SOTUS S feat Gun (for OffGun) at the time from Puppy Honey (Thailand) - it was just amusing to see OffGun show up in their nascent form.

Plus and Minus feat Akihiro Kawai & Lance Chiu from See You After Quarantine? (Taiwan) - they even snuck in the name Haru (the fake name that started the romance in SYAQ) but they clearly aren’t playing the same characters.

Plus and Minus feat Arron Lai & Hank Wang from Be Loved in House I Do (Taiwan) - ostensibly playing different characters but only JUST.

Nobleman Ryu's Wedding feat Lee Sang from Wish You (Korea) - this was really cheeky since he was previously paired with the same lead, in other words this was a cameo of “the other man”.

Ocean Likes Me feat Park Bum Jun from Behind Cut (Korea) just looking gorgeous in the background of a crowd scene. I mean, I get it, why not?

Mark from Bite Me and Love By Chance popping in to play an actor member of the cat tribe in Meow Ears Up, he also showed up in love

Mechanics as the momentary love interest for Nuea we all actually wanted to see happen.

About Youth feat Wilson Liu from HIStory 3: MODC & HIStory 4 as a senior student speaking English.

Choco Milk Shake feat Yeon Seung Ho from Long Time No See (Wild Dog) as the one good ex-boyfriend.

I dithered over Mean and Prem in The Yearbook, but then decided not to bother. Kinda my general feelings about that show.

And...

BL Character Crossover Cameos!

Since characters are IP this is a much more dangerous territory. Often you’ll notice they aren’t called by name, or the name is spelled differently than the original. But we ALL KNOW what’s going on here.

Why R U? feat TeeFuse, the main characters from Make it Right (Thailand).

Why R U? feat TharnType, the main characters from TharnType (Thailand).

Korea also got in on the game and had MaxNat (whose couple originated in WRU?) appear in their remake of Why R U? as a background couple. Very clever.

Tan & Dr Bun the leads from Manner of Death (MaxTul) in Triage the series (Thailand) - this is a full on character couple cross over, named (and married) and authorized, and rare to see. It’s because the same author is responsible for both source y-novels.

HIStory 3 Make Our Days Count feat Cheng Qing from HIStory Stay Away From Me (Taiwan) - he’s not named, but he is referred to as an idol and he alludes to his secret relationship so I think we can assume he’s the same character.

The side dishes from HIStory 3 Make Our Days Count (they got engaged) show up and get married in HIStory 4 Close To You. Which was cute. It’s a bit more than a cameo spanning several episodes, but it was very fun to see. And they play the same characters.

Be Loved in House I Do feat Hao Ting from HIStory 3 Make Our Days Count (Taiwan) - I think we can assume from the advice he gives that this is the same character on the, shall we call it, Taiwanese timeline as opposed to...

My personal favorite, Hao Ting & Xi Gu (in an alternate timeline and billed only as Taiwanese tourists) from HIStory 3 Make Our Days Count (Taiwan) showing up at the end of Life Love On The Line (Japan) in the only known country cross over of BL characters. I love the irony of this, since apparently took Japan (NOTORIOUS for it’s unhappy and dark BL endings) to give these two an actual happy ever after.

For once, we all preferred the Japanese ending.

And then they did it AGAIN in Plus & Minus.

And AGAIN in Kisseki: Dear to Me!

Honestly it feels like, sometimes, Taiwan is constantly trying to apologize for HIStory 3 Make Our Days Count with all these cameos, WHICH THEY SHOULD.

In Thailand it’s director Cheewin who likes to do this a lot. He’s also very cheeky in Y-Destiny doing a love triangle (sort of) between YoonLay (YYY’s KnottPunn) and PerthLay (My Engineer’s RamKing) as one of the story arcs - making his pair (from YYY) the “winners.”

He got ahead of himself by featuring the main couples for Middleman’s Love in Cutie Pie but then JimmyTommy pulled out. So this is a very brief look at a series that never was (in this form?) crossing over.

Like faux crossover.

However, TutorYim, also from Cutie Pie, show up very briefly in Jun & Jun as friends of Simon for no apparent reason.

When Korea goes all on of a trope they really, the same year all their crossover couples started to appear (2023) they also had Love Class original couple show up in Love Class 2.

Honorable mention to Ae’s Tote from Thai BL Love By Chance getting a cameo appearance in Taiwanese BL About Youth.

Today's compilation:

Now That's What I Call Music! 8 2001 R&B / Pop / Teen Pop / Alternative Rock / Pop-Punk / Post-Grunge

Welp, folks, it looks like we're nearing the end of the earliest days for this beloved flagship series that's known for constantly delivering reproductions of the day's biggest pop hits, but I still have a couple more of these albums in my queue to enjoyably sift through. And just like the other seven installments that precede this one, Now That's What I Call Music! 8 also makes for a pretty great trip down commercial radio memory lane as well 😍.

But before we dive right on into it, how about we have some nostalgic fun with the ad for this release first? See, If you had placed an order for Now 8 by credit card or with check-debit, you'd also receive a free limited edition collector's box that you could store all of your other Now CDs in too! Wow! But we actually start off on a few somber notes here... 😔

Now 8 was the first dispatch from the main series to be released after 9/11, and so, I feel like the inclusion of its final track, U2's "Walk On," which never even made it onto Billboard's Hot 100 chart, was done solely in order to try to console an American psyche that had been deeply wounded at that time. "Walk On" was released as a single in February of 2001, and was actually about the plight of Burmese peace activist Aung San Suu Kyi—who, years later, would despicably do nothing as Myanmar's head of state to address the genocide of Rohingya Muslims that her own military was perpetrating—but in the immediate aftermath of 9/11, the song found itself resonating with a lot of Americans, serving a sudden and newfound purpose as an anthem of perseverance for them.

And that's pretty much undoubtedly why Now chose this song to close out the album. Had 9/11 not happened, this comp's last track would've probably been a song that had actually charted on the Hot 100. But because this album was slated to release in November of '01, the Now brass probably thought it best to end with a song that could acknowledge that then-current moment of anguish and turmoil, rather than awkwardly and tone-deafly just loading up their CD with fun pop hits from the summer that had just passed.

But less than three weeks before 9/11, R&B star Aaliyah had also tragically passed in a plane crash after filming the video for her beautifully soft and sensual, final single, "Rock the Boat" too. So Now not only included that song on this release, but they dedicated the whole album to Aaliyah's memory, and also donated part of the proceeds from the triple-platinum seller to her memorial fund as well.

And last with the sadness, rest in peace to the great Steve Harwell. I absolutely despised your band's cover of The Monkees' "I'm a Believer" when I first heard it (which appears on this album), but I still genuinely dug your work more than most are willing to admit, and really also loved the critique you had about the commodification of social movements in "Walkin' On the Sun," which is something that many people probably overlooked because they had nothing nice to say about your band that, unfortunately, became a Shrek meme. At the end of the day, Smash Mouth made a bunch of fun music, man 😞.

OK, on to the rest of this album...

So, the album cover for this release says it comes with 20 chart-topping hits, but in reality, only three of these were actually Hot 100 #1s. There's Destiny's Child's "Bootylicious," which, to go with their Survivor album's theme, intended to use the opening guitar stutter from "Eye of the Tiger"—by the band *Survivor*—but had to settle for Stevie Nicks' "Edge of Seventeen" instead; Usher's "U Got It Bad" ballad; and Joe's "Stutter," which isn't actually the most famous version of the song, but is the "Double Take Remix" instead, that was done by Allen "Allstar" Gordon Jr., and sampled both the iconic west coast alternative rap classic, "Passin' Me By," by The Pharcyde, as well as the song that that song itself sampled, Quincy Jones' "Summer in the City." And it also features now-canceled rapper Mystikal, which represents his third overall appearance in this series.

And speaking of remixes and samples, the famous Murder Inc. remix of J.Lo's "I'm Real," featuring Ja Rule, doesn't appear on here, but instead, it's her underappreciated and poppier original version that sounds nothing like the remix, and samples from classic Japanese electronic group Yellow Magic Orchestra's digi-chirping "Firecracker," which ends up naturally giving the tune a sweet 80s throwback kinda vibe.

Other songs worth mentioning are the brilliantly produced and super light and smooth Janet Jackson jam, "Someone to Call My Lover," which sampled from folk duo America's "Ventura Highway;" and a terrific tune that was actually originally released in 1998, but rose to US fame because of its inclusion in a 2001 Mitsubishi ad: "Start the Commotion," by UK duo The Wiseguys. That one's very much in that Fatboy Slim-helmed UK big beat vein; gotta love the blaring and swingin' sampled horns on it! 🤩

And there's a solid handful of other songs on this CD that I could devote some space to as well, but I think this post here is already long enough as it is.

So, another terrific nostalgia rush to be had in this trip all the way back to 2001. And I only have one more of these Now comps left in my queue, but I think I'm gonna save it for later.

💖unnecessarily-long doll tour under the cut oh my GOD i'm so excited okay💖

first, monster high:

1. Draculaura (Scaris: City of Frights, Mattel, 2012)

i snagged this doll from a flea market in 2021. somehow, the only thing missing is her purse. she even has her earrings! she's got some fairly bad glue seepage going on with her hair, but it styled decently for now, so i'm gonna tackle it later.

2. Frankie Stein (MH G1: First Wave – Boo-Riginal Creeproduction, Mattel, 2022)

i found this at my local walmart and nearly had a fucking STROKE, i was so excited. I Fucking Love Her. frankie has always been my favourite, and i'm so happy to own this creeproduction, especially considering what a nightmare distribution was in canada. the fact that this frankie made it to my grubby paws at all is proof that god is real.

3. Spectra Vondergeist (Ghoul's Night Out, Mattel, 2013)

growing up, i only had three MH dolls: a second wave frankie, a boo beach cleo de nile, and this spectra. spectra is the only childhood survivor, because i begged and pleaded for AGES to get her for christmas, because she was a GHOST and OF COURSE i wanted the fucking ghost. once i got her in my hands, i treated her like she was made of fucking gold.

she's missing her purse and vinyl vest right now, because i had to undress her for the first time ever recently in an attempt to give her a bath (which did fuck all). she's got a SEVERE case of glue seepage in her hair, as well as some brutal UV yellowing that i'm gonna have to paint over. but she's my fucking baby, and i'm gonna get her fixed up.

4. Frankie Stein (MH G3: First Wave, Mattel, 2022)

i was really iffy on G3 at first, but it has grown on me so much. i couldn't fucking believe it when i heard that frankie is canonically nonbinary in the reboot, i was ecstatic. they're fucking AWESOME, they are SO TALL, i love their face sculpt and their outfit and their accessories (which are not pictured) and their prosthetic leg is so cute and the graffiti on the leg is upside down so you can tell frankie did it themself and AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA

5. Draculaura (MH G3: First Wave, Mattel, 2022)

draculaura is the always a slay. the reboot draculaura is absolutely not an exception. i'm fucking obsessed with this lil bitch, she was the first G3 doll i grabbed. she's an icon, a fashion queen, and she's chubby. i'd be here for years if i tried explaining how much that means to me.

next, LOL surprise! OMG and LOL surprise! tweens:

1. Emma Emo (Tweens – Series 3, MGA, 2022)

i don't have to explain why i bought her. look at her. fucking look at her.

2. Skatepark QT (OMG – Series 5, MGA, 2022)

i've always been a wannabe skater, even though my balance is absolute shite (but i AM working on that). my motivation behind buying lol dolls is never that deep, i just see their colours and their outfits and i go OOH SHINEY and then i'm at home fighting for my life to get into the box. idk man. they're all cute at fuck.

3 + 4: Punk Grrrl & Rocker Boi (OMG – Remix 2-Pack, MGA, 2020)

in summer of 2022, my family was on vacation on prince edward island, and we needed to kill a few hours while waiting for check-in to open up at the second campground we'd be staying at. my parents are my enablers, so they decided the best way to kill said hours was to set me loose on the toys 'r' us in charlottetown. my wallet hurt after and it ROCKED. these guys were part of my haul!

these motherfuckers have the goofiest goddamn names in the world, but i forgive them, because they are a slay. they're so cute together. their outfits are fantastic. the sides of her head are flocked so her undercut is fuzzy. they have guitars. HE'S A BOY. i love them.

5. Darcy Blush (Tweens – Series 4, MGA, 2022)

this lil lady is the latest addition to my collection, i grabbed her last week. she's very aesthetically different from the other lol dolls i have, but i could not walk away from her. i even tried, but right before we left, i ran back to the toys and grabbed her. her face is so sweet, her colour scheme is darling, and the coloured braids in her hair are so sweet ;____;

these are some miscellaneous dolls, we're moving into the barbie realm:

1. Jacob Black, Bella Swan & Edward Cullen (Barbie Collector: Pink Label – The Twilight Saga, Mattel, 2009)

i got these for christmas in 2009. my mum was super into twilight at that point, i showed interest in her interests (Because She Is My Mummy), and boom. dolls.

she didn't want me to take them out of the box, since they're collector's editions.

naturally, they were removed from their boxes Fucking Immediately, because i was EIGHT. and to this day, i am still not an in-box collector (save for a couple of wrestling action figures i have). these three are very well loved. bonus points: edward's entire body is sparkly!!

2. Heather Grayson (Rainbow High – Shadow High: Series 1, MGA, 2022)

she's just a slay. idk what to tell you. i'm a sucker for split dye hair on dolls, man.

3. Elsa (Disney's Frozen II – Musical Adventure Elsa, Hasbro, 2019)

again, no complicated answer here. i love elsa. she means a lot to me. when you press the button on her chest, she sings "show yourself"!

4. Sasha (Bratz Rock Angelz – 20 Yearz Special Edition Reproduction, MGA, 2021)

i had a sasha doll as a kid, though it wasn't this exact one. she's my forever fave of the core four bratz. i got this doll on that same toys 'r' us trip in PEI, and she's so cute. i need to actually watch the rock angelz movie (i've somehow never seen ANY bratz movies).

and now, barbie:

1. Princess Rosella (Barbie as The Island Princess, Mattel, 2007)

none of these dolls are in very good condition, because all four of them are mine from childhood. this ro doll literally only has the dress and sagi the red panda left; everything else that she came with was lost to time, moves and general kell behaviours. but, when you press the button on her necklace, SHE STILL FUCKIN' SINGS! THAT'S A W

2 + 3. Princess Alexa & Princess Liana (Barbie & The Diamond Castle, Mattel, 2008)

oh my fucking god i abused these lil whores. alexa's face has been drawn on with pink highlighter (which, to my credit, you can't really tell. shoutout to my younger self, hashtag beauty guru moment). liana's dress-transformation mechanism is so worn out that i swear to god breathing on her wrong will trigger the audio chip in it, resulting in this grating, tinny sparkle sound effect. their shoes and tiaras are with jesus now, but shockingly, i still have One (1) of their hairbrushes. but SOMEHOW, SOME FUCKING WAY, THEY STILL SING AND LIGHT UP, TOO. i never said they sound particularly good. BUT THEY WORK AND THAT'S WHAT MATTERS.

bonus points: their dresses' colour schemes are like the bisexual and lesbian pride flags respectively, which shreds absolute puss. and it's doubly fantastic because the diamond castle is THEE gay barbie movie. these girls are homosexual.

4. Barbie (Barbie Hair-Tastic! Color & Design Salon, Mattel, 2012)

there's no movie tie-in for this doll. she came with a salon chair, some stencils, and some spray bottles full of coloured liquid. you could "spray paint" her hair, then wash the colour right back out. i don't have the other pieces anymore, but i still have the barbie. unfortunately, i very recently melted off a section of her hair by accident while trying to straighten it (adhd moment, forgot to wet the strand), but thankfully that section is well-hidden and hardly noticeable. i just think she's pretty.

(her outfit, however, is a fuckin' SIN i hate it so bad lmfao)

and i just bought these two today, and i am so excited i think i could keel over right the fuck now:

1. Rayla the Cloud Queen (Barbie and The Magic of Pegasus, Mattel, 2005)

she has all her pieces, and she comes with a pegasus.

she is so fucking gorgeous. i cannot believe my luck right now. rayla has never even been on my wishlist, she just comes with the annika doll. this is a complete and utter win for me. everything is coming up millhouse kell ybcpatrick.

2. Princess Annika (Barbie and The Magic of Pegasus, Mattel, 2005)

I HAVE BEEN WAITING TO OWN THIS BITCH FOR EIGHTEEN FUCKING YEARS. EIGHTEEN. MOTHERFUCKING. YEARS. OF. MY. LIFE. AND SHE'S GOING TO BE MINE. AND SHE HAS ALL OF HER ACCESSORIES. AND SHE COMES WITH THE LIGHT-UP WAND. SHE EVEN HAS INSTRUCTIONS.

magic of pegasus is my favourite barbie movie of all time. this is childhood wish fulfillment x1000. i'm convinced once this doll gets here, at least two of my mental illnesses are gonna be cured instantaneously. i might honestly cry once i get to hold her. i'm not over it i will never be over it i'm fucking losing my mind out here.

OKAY FUCK. that is all of my dolls. sorry that this is like. So Fucking Long. OEDKJSDJVSJDFJ. but, toys are one of my special interests, so getting the opportunity to talk about them is a treat 🥹🥹 i'm also really invested in my collections; aside from dolls, i also collect CDs, wrestling action figures, and crystals 😃💓

this might be the hardest question im gonna answer in my entire life.. *proceeds to respond with the longest word vomit ever known to mankind*

1.) i am a certified lottie matthews gurlie : )) she's just been such an interesting character throughout the series like i never really know what's going on with her (im pretty sure pookie doesn't either even if she insists she does lol.. istg every lottie scene is just me being absolutely flabbergasted and in a constant state of “WTF?”) and i know they all experienced varying degrees of trauma (i dont wanna turn this into a competition of who's had it the hardest pre and post crash) but i think lottie's character has one of the most tragic storyline, esp her life post-crash

2.) RESIDENT COLD GIRL JACKIE TAYLOR! this gurl was serving nothing but iconic vibes and lesbian comphet behavior and i am here for it. i was honestly surprised to learn that a lot of ppl dont like jackie cause she was a bit of a spoiled brat and while i do agree (cz she is LMFAO pooks literally died of pettiness) i feel like it's not necessary to paint her as either black or white cause she's also got a really complex character. like sure she has her mean girl moments (mostly because of the environment she was raised in and i think she wasn't really aware of that trait until shauna brought it up during their fight) but she's rarely ever malicious and i think she would've outgrown that trait given the chance. but also it could just be because im a sucker for mean-girl-highschool-queen-bee characters making me a huge jackie taylor apologist !

3.) misty quigley. no words of appreciation for her—maybe her (tho unplaced and is often expressed in the wrong ways)—loyalty and dependability, still tho she was literally just straight up batshit insane.. she killed 2 people (??), is responsible for them being trapped in the wilderness, and honestly speaking needs to be admitted to the ward cause that girl is psychotic but adult misty was so funny, she immediately became a fav.

ALSO must insert the yj background characters, i dont know their names i only know akilah and mari, but i love those girls so much season 2 was absolutely unhinged cause the mains are going through a horror show and these bitches r in the background like it's a mf camping trip playing cards and are like “.. oof bestie 👀 would you look at that? it's snowing pretty hard bet it's freezing cold out there 👀 ngl itd be nice to have a lottie mat-stew right now 🤤 but i do hope she gets home safely 😥... just.. you know hahah... if she ever happens to.. yk 🥰”

Introduction of Sorts + Interests

This page will really be for me to get back into writing, develop my writing and indulge myself. I’m open to requests though but ask people to definitely contextualize your Bias (person you’re requesting for—yes I’m gonna use K-pop lingo oh well) and/or the scenario cause otherwise I’d simply write for myself. Which is why I also am making this page because I’ve been on tumblr for 10 years (my main account turned ten this year) and I’m worn out of the smut fest no prose or story fics. Definitely has its place in the community but the older I get the more I need actual full blown delusion. I need scene, setting, set up, climax, denouement…and so I’ll fulfill the order myself. 🫡

**the long story short and overall caveat of why I’ve fallen out of love for groups and K-pop are the fact that yeah as a Black person I genuinely started getting pissed off with colorism, n-word usage, appropriation, and mockery. The shit gets old and as a poor old super fan I’m happy I didn’t spend the money people do for folks who would literally refuse my hand…🫤 be fr. Likewise, the deaths of idols who were literally my biases really (of course) bothered me and took a toll on my enjoyment of the genre too. But also, the feeling of community I get from playing with muns and their muses for a long time and creating magical storylines that have lasted in my mind forever! RP pet peeves/dealbreakers: If you start to talk to me, and we're getting on like a house on fire--and then you see one thing I like/ship that you really don't like--TALK TO ME ABOUT IT. PLEASE. Don't just haul off and block me without doing that. It's rude. Also, trust me there is a way around it~! But we can't work it out if you don't talk to me. Best time to write: RN weekends are best. My weekdays are eaten by classes, homework, often translations, and my job. During the summer and breaks--evenings to nights are the best time. :)

Are you like your muse: I think after 21 years playing this muse--she's probably more like me than anything else. xD She's grown and evolved over the time I've played her. Hence the reason why she's generally canon divergent, and I usually play her post-series. But her core attributes, which never change, are very like me.
