one day i will successfully articulate my feelings on love being a choice. it’s so important to me. every complaint, every insecurity, everything you hate about yourself. is not met with consolation. no ‘of course you’re not like that’ or ‘no, that’s not true. that’s not how i see you at all.’
to me, that most romantic response to i’m too loud or honest or tall or big is ‘so what?’
so what? i love you anyways. i love you. i choose to love you.
i see you as you are and love you because of it. so what you’re annoying? i love you for it. so what you’re awkward? i love you for it.
love is learning about someone else and finding irritations but no deal breakers. it’s choosing love even when your words are sharp. even when there is no one you can hate more in the world, but instead of giving in, you choose love.

It’s been a while since I’ve posted about Persona 4, though I’ve tried making a post and end up cancelling it every time, but... maybe if I keep it short and sweet and don’t try to analyze it, I can post it.
I think the choice to make Adachi, Narukami’s parallel and polar opposite (yes, he is both) an adult and older than Narukami in general, is such a poignant and incredibly effective character dynamic choice. This isn’t an anti-Akechi post or anything, but one thing I love about the relationship between Adachi and Narukami is that Narukami canonically continues to think that he can somehow turn Adachi’s way of thinking around. But in Adachi’s shoes, how can a kid who’s barely scraped the tip of adulthood keep deluding himself into encouraging you that there’s still some semblance of meaning in life? You’ve been through that whole schtick; high school, college, the adult workforce, rejection, ridicule, etc. You were young, once, and it sucked ass. And getting older, life was worse.
But at the same time, Narukami is already in a better situation than Adachi is, and has what he didn’t to keep him on track: People. Family. Friends. Bonds.
