Thank you to both @hobbitwrangler and @konartiste for tagging me — I loved the chance to see a tiny snippet of what you’re working on!
I am deep into rarepair hell, that is to say the love story of my sweet obscure horse boys, Guthláf and Wídfara. I don’t expect anyone else to be interested in them the way that I am, since they appear in canon for about six lines combined, but I love them deeply and have spent all of my free time with them lately.
“When he was finished, he sat quietly in a chair at the side of the bed and gratefully studied all the little signs of life he could discern — the slow rise and fall of Guthláf’s chest, the minute movements of his eyes behind his closed eyelids, the faint pulsing of a vein at his temple as his heart did its work.”
I think I’ve lost the thread on who has been tagged already, so please anyone feel free to join. And just to throw out a few names, @quillofspirit @kylobith @firelightinferno if you have anything you want to share please do!

The Riders of Rohan were the horse-mounted warriors of the Rohirrim, divided into several éoryd led by the Marshals of the Riddermark. At the time of the War of the Ring, many riders did noble deeds and many others perished in battle.           Among the éored of Éomer who overran the Uruk-hai of Uglúk were his squire Éothain, who doubted the tale of holbytlan captured by orcs, and the warriors Gárulf, Adwig, and Ethelred, who lost their lives in the fight. The Three Hunters were given horses by Éomer, Aragorn riding Hasufel, once the steed of Gárulf, while Legolas and Gimli together rode Arod, once the steed of Adwig. Ethelred’s horse, Brego, fled the battle and ran wild, until eventually he was recovered and returned to Edoras, where Aragorn soothed him into a steed worthy of riding into battle once more.            Two valiant captains of the Riders were Grimbold of Grimslade, descendant of Grim, and Gamling the Old. Grimbold served under Théodred, Second Marshal of the Mark, and took command of the Fords of Isen after his prince fell, holding it until reinforcements arrived. Gamling, known in his youth as Baldwig, was an old man at the Battle of the Hornburg, but he was still a commanding presence and was the first to realize that orcs had penetrated the Deep through its culvert, and led the counter-attack himself.           Dúnhere, Lord of Harrowdale and nephew of Erkenbrand, served under Grimbold in the Battle of the Fords of Isen, and later rode the muster of the Rohirrim at his homeland of Harrowdale, answering the call of the King for soldiers to fight in the War. Many riders answered and all were welcomed, including Wídfara of the Wold, Herubrand and his son Herefara, the ceorl Fastwine who had served as a messenger and won the King’s favor, and many others. Wídfara joined the éored of Elfhelm, while Herubrand, Herefara, and Fastwine were invited to Théoden’s personal éored, the King’s Riders, to replace three soldiers who had fallen at Helm’s Deep.           The only warrior whose service was refused was the Lady Éowyn, the King’s sister-son, who was commanded to remain in Rohan to lead in his stead. But Éowyn would not be denied, and she disguised herself as the warrior Dernhelm and rode with the Riders to Gondor against her uncle’s orders. On the journey, she befriended Meriadoc Brandybuck, who was likewise defying Théoden’s word, and together they rode the horse Windfola into battle. In the end, the combined attack of Dernhelm and Merry were enough to slay the unkillable Witch-king of Angmar, though not in time to save the life of Théoden King.           Many men fell in the Battle of Pelennor Fields, including six of the King’s Riders: Harding and Horn, valiant men both; Herefara and his father Herubrand; the ceorl Fastred, akin to Fastwine, and Guthláf the banner-bearer. So also fell Dúnhere and Déorwine and Grimbold, mighty commanders. All were remembered in the Song of the Mounds of Mundburg, a grand poem honoring those who gave their lives fighting against the Shadow, their names going down in history alongside those of Gondor’s Captains of the Outlands who also perished on that fateful day.

Resilience (LoTR story, ch 6 posted, 6-19-21)
An unexpected event and a chance encounter bring Lothiriel of Dol Amroth and the King of Rohan together. Now, neither of their lives will ever be the same as they were.  [Complete in 24 chapters]
 Chapter 6
(1 Jun 3019 III)
The guards watched as the horseman drew near the gate.  He gave them a lazy smile and a nod.  “Gentlemen.”
They merely nodded in return, waiting for him to declare his purpose.
“This is Edoras, I would assume?”  At their affirming nod, he asked, “Is there an inn where I might find a bed for the night, and a stable for my horse?”
“Where do you travel?” asked one guard.
“From Bree.  I’m headed to Gondor.  With the war ended, the prospects for work might be greater there.” He gave them a disarming smile. “Even if the war is over, the roads are not entirely safe.  A man traveling alone does not sleep with both eyes closed.  I hope to get a good night’s rest, or two, before continuing on.”
The guards smiled in commiseration.  One pointed up the hill.  “About halfway up, keep an eye to the left side and you will see an inn, The Wayfarer. They will have a room for you, and there is a stable attached for you to keep your horse.  The innkeeper is Widfara.”
“My thanks,” the rider told them, urging his horse forward.  Only after he was past them did he allow a pleased smile to tickle his lips. All too easy.  Obviously they did not suspect him – he could move freely. He would find her and take her back.
xx
The next couple of days after their arrival at Edoras, when Lothiriel was unable to get the housekeeper or Eowyn to give her a task, she walked about the town to have a look at how the people lived.  There were not a great many shops or inns, to her surprise, but enough businesses of other sorts to hold her interest.  She had never really taken the opportunity to visit a blacksmith shop, a cooper or broommaker in person.  Now she did that as she came upon them, and though sometimes their Westron was a challenge to understand through their accent, the tradesmen were always willing to talk with her and explain their occupation.
Her forays into town had an additional benefit – the walks back up the hill were strengthening her. She did not tire as quickly on the climb after making several treks.  The first day she’d had to lie down and rest after the exertion, and slept for over an hour.
She still wanted to go out to the barrowfields and take a closer look.  Those had intrigued her as they arrived, but the prospect of the walk had been daunting until now.  When Eomer learned of her intent in that regard, he advised he would send a guard with her if she was to venture outside the gates.  Though it might be safe enough without that precaution, he did not want to risk it, and she was not opposed to being accompanied.
xx
He watched her from the shadows.  His former companions had been focused on what they might sell her for, but he knew it would be a mere pittance when shared between them.  No, if she were taken by force, her family would not wish that shame to be known.  They would do anything to conceal her ruin.  They would make him a prince!  A wealthy prince, no doubt.  And she would be his wife, to sample her delights as often as he wished.  Yes, his companions had been very short-sighted, but he would benefit from that.  With them out of the way, he need share with no one.
