So I read the watership down graphic novel a few days ago (it was very good, great adaptation of the original book though some things were missing/lacking) and it gave me the itch to draw bunnies again. So instead of, idk, cooking or eating dinner I drew a bunch of watership down bunny rabbits :) Its almost 12 am and im starving but I just needed to get it done today, i wanted to share the watership down love. Who knows, maybe if I had stopped, it would have ended up in wip limbo/hell and i didnt want that to happen Anyhow, I sadly wasnt able to fit everyone but I tried to include most of the main bunnies. I was gonna squeeze blackavar in there but i was all out of brain juice and also canvas space. I used photo references of wild rabbits to try and get the shapes right but the ears were very challenging. Im afraid some might have turned out looking more like hares instead but I really tried my best! (this took me like over 4 hours rip) I also tried really hard to make their coat colors and patterns varied but still believable/natural-ish. Vervain is a lil random because honestly i didnt know what to do for him so i just let the vibes guide me. To fill the empty space beneath pipkin i included tiny El-ahrairah, the black rabbit of Inlé and frith because i despise having empty space on sketch pages. Anyhow im gonna try to figure out what to eat now, hope you guys enjoy!

What animals inhabit the gs world? At the moment only deer, flying birds, wolves and hares appeared in the comic and foxes are mentioned, the presence of lynxes and squirrels has been confirmed by the comic memes on da and there is a sketch featuring a wild boar, but are there other creatures? Do horses exist in this world? What about other big predators like pumas and bears? Do chamoises and pronghorns exist? Even if they aren't linked to deer do flightless birds like cassowaries exist?

I've been lazy designing fauna in GS universe, keeping my eyes set on what's relevant to the story. It's a big world, surely there's plenty of different kinds of animals, but since we're just strolling around grasslands, we won't be seeing much of them.

I guess I lean loosely on eurasian animals when I imagine the creatures inhabiting the space. Horses? Maybe. Pumas? Maybe not. Yaks, bears, boars, bats, badgers, martens, lemmings, yes yes. Antelopes, cassowaries, tigers, kiwi, tapirs, likely somewhere.

But in short I'm just not much into creating stories with multiple species interacting, or even survival stories of predators always hanging around prey, so it's mostly just deer you see.

DAMN has it been a while since I did more than teeny tiny bits of art! I think I started sketching this in.... may of last year?

This is a lineup of villains from my tabletop campaign I'm running that's based on my comic idea, Excitement And Adventure And Really Wild Things. The arc takes place at a cheesy Wild West resort in the midst of an international summit about the setting's fantasy equivalent of America joining the setting's fantasy equivalent of WW2. These fine folks sign into the park and get the security code Sepia 9 (I hope the pun is obvious enough???)

More on the group and the individual characters below:

Sepia 9 was gathered by Cal Humble (3rd from the left) to track down party members suspected of killing diplomats (to save the world, but that mess was still a nightmare)

From left to right:

Ana Ng: A Nuran, a tentacle-haired fantasy race within the setting. Ana's a mercenary, a teleporting assassin hired to take out the party's tank before he could move to defend the others. She's also the only member of this crew who's supposed to show up in comics canon, in very different circumstances. Her gun creates portals on the surface they point at in a straight line through other surfaces, moving wherever she points. She ended up kidnapping all the world leaders and running off in an attempt to exchange them for an end to their colonial hold on other countries. The party was unfortunately forced to oppose her despite the moral quandary, but the diplomat of the group did trade the favor of saving them for preventing a major famine Ana was particularly worried about.

Dr. Stanley "The Manley" Starr: Dr. Stanley is a snake oil salesman from the same isolated dome as the party, and has unlocked some secret of human psychic potential by using mind-altering drugs, particularly psilocybin. He was brought in to drug and destabilize a party member who's convinced his dead squad of pilots were still with him, but that party member left, so he tried to drug other allies, and only sort of succeeded after one new party member stole most of his mushrooms. (He's a reskin of a character from comics canon very loosely based on someone I know, one of those things that's getting cut because it was in poor taste.)

Calcifer Torments The Wicked Until They Are Humble, AKA Cal Humble: Cal is an old school demon who left Hell for better things a long time ago, an incorporeal being in a mechanical body. He's loosely, and I mean VERY loosely based on Columbo, but he's like, the evil badass version, which doesn't really resemble Columbo all that much. Too much Jack Noir in his DNA. Cal headed the investigation into the diplomats' deaths, and assembled this group to find and arrest the party, while racing to this summit to defuse a complicated revelation about the nature of the enemy in this war. He tried to investigate and entrap the party's diplomat, but that character caught wind of the secret and pulled a diplomatic play to only have himself imprisoned as long as the party could work off their sentence.

Hazel Lope: A powerful forest witch, consultant on many state cases concerning magic. She's a Lepusan, a Hare Person race in the setting, of the Jackalope variety. Coming from a background of seeing magical forests bulldozed by state and corporations, losing her family in the process, she decided if you can't beat 'em, join 'em. She has no moral principles now, she just does her job and does it well, and has no qualms about tearing down anyone who stands in her way. A party member with a neurological issue that causes chronic anhedonia has been seeking Hazel out to help treat her condition, and Hazel knew this ahead of time, setting up a trap to have the ghost of a man this party member magically mutilated possess her to keep this PC from evading arrest.

OP, this is a fantastic question, actually!

You can go a few different directions with this one. Like what animal would suit Akechi the most vs what animal would Akechi pick for himself.

As for what animal suits Akechi the most, I do like @desitenya's hare headcanon. The wild, uncanny energy of a hare along with a Watership Down kind of feel (be cunning, and full of tricks), matches Akechi well, I think.

Before the harekechi propaganda, I had been leaning toward African wild dog, because of their social nature, successfully hunting strategy and adorable round ears lol. Akechi just seems very much to me like he can do well for himself but would very much like to be part of a pack, y'know? Actually I wanted to do a triad drawing of Akechi overlaid with stylized African wild dogs but considering that this sketch was from October 2021 and I still haven't gotten around to it... The chances are not good that I'll ever do it, so here's the concept lol:

Honestly, if you asked Akechi to pick what animal he wanted as a fursona, I think it would highly depend on what cool animal he most recently learned about lol. He'd definitely pick out some niche beasts.

But if you held a gun to my head and told me to pick ONE animal that Akechi would reasonably make into a fursona though, I'd say a velvet worm. Not actually furry but you know a pedantic bastard like Akechi would definitely argue that villi are analogous to fur lmao. Plus, hunting with slime is just such a neat concept lol.

number three, and the companion piece to every rose has its thorn! so far i’m keeping up with the classic rock naming, though I stretched it a little with this one considering this guy’s a hare, but alas

I struggled with getting the eyes right on this.. not sure if it’s 100% but it’s better than what it started off as, so I see that as a win. Didn’t think this would be the first hate I posted, but it certainly won’t be the last! I love them, they have a stare that seems to stare into your soul, and seemingly bring some sort of omen.. I just think they’re really neat :) I would love to see one in the wild someday!!

There will be more of these coming!! I currently have 3-4 planned, but if I have 4 I gotta make it 5 somehow, so I may stick with 3 for now. I officially finished my finals a few days ago, so I’m hoping for some more consistency this summer!! I’ve got quite a few WIPs I want to finish, along with some other ideas, so stay tuned!! :D

What's everyone's favorite creature?

That Depends on if you mean by “Creature” haha! We’ll be broad on this answer and give one from the commonwealth and one from the world surrounding them!

Uli has a huge weakness for Horses, he loves to sit in the grass and watch them roam, most of the wild Hylian horses recognize him as the “Hylian who brings us free apples!” Aside from being terrified of monsters he actually finds Lizalfos terribly interesting to watch from a distance, he has several sketch books full of scribblings about Lizalfos. As for Creatures of the wider world, Uli loves Blue whales and Beluga whales, they are some of his favorites to learn about, and see if he decides on taking a ship to other parts of the world. Though it isn’t often as he gets horribly sea sick.

Nabora LOVES Sand Seals, they are her favorite Gerudo Desert Native Creature she interacts with Daily, though she can approach them in the wild without them fleeing immediately, she much prefers to watch them roam uninterrupted.The world has many Mythological creatures that she finds endlessly interesting, and when she has access to the Internet she is quite swiftly down a Rabbit Hole of Creatures in the regions she visits. She simply cannot Choose one! As for animals she was in love immediately when she learned that there was a snowy equivalent to her Sand Seals, she loves Walruses and really developed a love for Elephants.

Vallo likes most any Bird, He isn’t all that picky, Song Birds, Herons, He’s always a fan of the Hawks native to Hyrule, this carries over to the outside world as well, Secretary Birds, Penguins, Ostriches, he really enjoys watching any bird he can see and will gladly travel to see them in the wild if he can.

Viri loves Gorillas, he thinks they are absolutely the BEST animals outside of Hyrule. Any Ape or Monkey is absolutely tops on his list of creatures. The now critically endangered Faron Woodland Monkeys are some of his most beloved, but they haven’t been observed in the wild in Generations.

Rika has a real soft spot for Sea Lions and Seals in general, they have such fun personalities and behaviors that watching them sun bathe on the Glass Beach gives so much free serotonin. She’s also developed quite an interest in Griaffes and Cheetahs.

Tuto Loves the little Fireproof Lizards that skitter about Death mountain, and has an interest in Dragons, but still remembers a time when he was young when a Dragon would eat Gorons.

Idli has more of an interest in Bugs than most critters, she loves bees and Dragonflies, Watching she has a tank of Snails in her home that she maintains Meticulously because she loves them so much, they are all named.

Rutelia doesn’t think much about creatures though she likes the sounds of Ducks in the area, their silly little walks and funny noises make her want to hold them and listen to that noise all the time. The first time she encountered a swan though was really traumatic.

Cirrus loves The Skyloftian Loftwings, but also has at least three Remlits, though the first time he saw a wild hare on the surface he was deeply intrigued by them, and then he discovered that Hares and Rabbits are a whole separate thing, and he’s been fascinated for years.

I’ve had this really random crossover in my head for a while now and I think I’m finally in the mood to share it.

I wanted to take the Youtubers I’m subbed to or know a lot about and put them into the Zootopia universe!

It started simply as me wondering, “if [x person] was in Zootopia, what animal would they be and why?” and it sorta became a whole thing in my head and now I have a whole list of them, and even a couple sketches. 

I just want to say that this is NOT me assigning real people fursonas. While I’m reimagining them as animals, it’s just to put them into the Zootopia universe, to try to match their personality to an animal that fits in this world in a believable way. It’s a VERY thin line, I know. I don’t mean any disrespect to the real life people it’s just a fun mental exercise for me, and an excuse to try to draw animals I wouldn’t think of otherwise.

So, @ashcroft-writes ; remember me going insane about that random Trandoshan looter eating-the-sun image in your last chapter? Remember how I wrote in the comments that I already had an idea in mind that I had to put on paper? Well... i did, it was clean and simple, I made a sketch even that I don't actually hate. But it needed tweaking and I couldn't really figure out what I needed to do to make it fit.

So what did my dumb, predictable brain do instead? It spiraled so hard and bad that I accidentally created a Trandoshan Creation Myth, a Sun Eclipse Myth, and a Tatooine localisation for both of them. Oops.

Here goes the most well-known Trandoshan variation:

The Creation Myth goes something like this:

In the early times, when the Earth was still young, the Egg-breaker and First Leader looked at the vast forests of the Earth, sprawling over her surface. In these times, the Earth had already sent her children to roam the forests, chittering and roaring, small and large. But First Leader was unsatisfied with their small, simple minds and quickly growing bored with them so he made the decision to bring a new kind of being into his world. He traveled down to the Great River and bit off the small finger of his right hand. Out of the flesh and the blood and the bones, he formed the four-fingered People. Then he bit off the small finger of his left hand to keep the Sacred Balence Of All Things and formed the three-fingered People out of the flesh and the blood and the bones. From the Great River, he took water to give them cunning minds so they would outsmart predator and prey alike. With the soil of Lady Earth he gave them patience so they would wait for the right moment to strike. With his breath he gave them life to flow in and out so they would respect the cycle of life and death.

Lastly, he created Sun-Boar so they would be swift-footed and Moon-Wolf to chase Sun-Boar across the sky and keep its white-hot hooves from burning the Earth.

In the early times, when the People had not been roaming the Earth for long yet, Man-of-the-Hunt, First Leader's son, had not earned his name yet. He was a wild young man; brave, eager to prove his worth and ready for any challenge. He would trap any wily hare, swim in the coldest river to catch any slippery eel, dig the eggs from the highest treetops of the silent-winged eagle, and grab the venomous pit viper right behind its head. But his father would not be impressed and his friends would hiss behind his back and the soft-bellied People would giggle and turn their backs.

So he turned to the greatest prey that had ever lived, the Sun-Boar, to earn his place as First Leader's son in rank as in blood. The Sun Boar's path repeats in a predictable circle so the so'n thought his victory easy but his spear would not hit its target and the son tried over and over again, each time ripping a tiny hole into the night sky instead. Only when he came down onto the Earth, touching her soil, did he discover the right moment to strike. When Sun-Boar digs itself from the Earth every morning, it slows down for a brief moment, allowing the son the chance to plunge his spear deep into its neck. The blood flowing down from the great wound of the mighty beast became the Bloody Way in the sky. Drunken from his hard-worn victory, the sun tore the sun from between the Sun-Boar's horns and ate it in large bites. Immediatly, the Earth became dark and cold but the son could not give the sun back as it was burning him from inside, forcing him to the ground in agony.

First Leader saw that the Earth was not light and warm as she should be and he followed his son's screams to the Sun-Boar's fallen body. Only when he allowed Moon-Wolf to touch his son, could he dig his claws into the son's stomach and tear it open. First Leader tore out his upper needle-teeth and sewed the sun back together, then he pulled the spear from the Sun-Boar's neck and put the sun back into its rightful place. Then he tore out his lower needle-teeth and sewed his son's stomach back together. 'Do you see the foolishness of this hunt?', He asked his son, 'There is no wisdom in hunting only for the pleasure of the hunt. There are beasts to be hunted and beasts to be left alone for there is the Balance Of All Things to be upheld. Honor is found in the hunt when there are mouths to be fed and bodies to be clothed, not in senseless slaughter. You have learned this lesson and I shall give you your name, Man-Of-The-Hunt, so you may never forget it.' And Sun-Boar and Moon-Wolf swiftly took back to the sky, to begin their eternal dance yet again.

As is the way of myths, they follow their people around, changing and merging with other, local myths. Which is how we're finally getting back to Tatooine ';)

For the most part, animals/celestial bodies are localised. The Sun-Boar becomes the South African Oryx (or you know, the Star wars equivalent). Because Tatooine has two suns, the sun loses one of his eyes in the fight against the Oryx. The eye he loses becomes an Oasis (perhaps even the First Oasis in some versions of the myth) that the Moon-Wolf drinks from because he's parched and water is /not/ wasted in the desert (yes, still a wolf; they literally exist everywhere somehow). The second eye becomes the second sun because it is ruled by a judge-figure that this is fair compensation for what he did.

After the fight, the sand actually swallows him so the Moon-Wolf can't find him and life begins to die all over the planet. Only the humble Dune Gecko that lives most of its life burrowed in the sand can find him but at this point Moon-Wolf has become so hungry that he bites off the Gecko's tail before being able to dig the son out and tear open his stomach.

I suppose First Leader still exists but with a different cultural background and values, he actually takes a backseat to the judge-figure that I've been vaguely modeling after @blue-sunshine-mauve-morning 's Lukka in my head (in case you're reading this, sorry for making you read through all of this but it seemed wrong not to credit you haha).

While Man-Of-The-Hunt is being judged for his ill-advised hunt, Dune Gecko also gets rewarded for his pivotal role in finding him under the sand by being granted the ability to regrow his tail. This is of course an observation of real world's geckos being able to regrow their tail when it gets bitten off by predators^^ Also a nod to the Gilgsmesh Epic's snake eating the plant that grants immortality and consequently living forever (shedding its skin).

In this version, Moon-Wolf carries the moon not just on its snout but also in its two eyes.

Man-Of-The-Hunt ends up being blind which is more brutal than the Trandoshan version but in a was, Tatooine is just more brutal I think. Also, i think, his motivation might be interpreted more as simple greed and with Tatooine's slave History, him losing the body parts that made him see and hunt things he doesn't have a right to have, makes sense. He's supposed to be a likeable, redeemed God after all.

The natural phenomenom that the second myth describes, is actually different for both planets! For Trandosha, it's a sun eclipse. For Tatooine, a volcanic eruption which is why it lasts mich longer. For both of them, the actual event has of course been forgotten, just a cultural memory remaining in this story format.

I'm sure you've noticed but I chose to make the Trandoshans much more sympathetic because I refuse to believe that they were always an Evil Race tm. So they get to teach about things like over-hunting, sustainable ecosystems, insecurity and rites of passage etc. I also tried to keep mammal-based ideas about society, familial ties and gender out of the lizard mythology while still acknowleding that certain pressure points would come up anyway. Also, the relationship with real-life hunting dogs was kinda important to me. It's not really visible here, but I had this idea that from the second myth evolved the tradition of giving the hunting dogs the first bite of the kill. Something about the son not doing that here and immediatly being hit with the painful consequences. I don't know but something about modern-day Trandoshans losing respect for their prey, killing senselessly and just in general moving away from this philosophy really tickles my brain.
