Haha, you know me, I would have only listed Zach episodes had you not specified. I am so sorry it took this long to get to this ask, but I’ve been thinking about it, and I enjoyed writing this up!

Favorite Episodes Featuring Zach

Quillner’s Birthday Present

Quillber’s Birthday Present is such a fun episode. We get some decent Zach art, learn he’s got a wart problem (no judgement!), and he’s forgetful! He forgot to charge the Zachbots and this leads to nearly a whole episode of him doing things by himself. Yes, he’s stealing animals, but he’s taking the initiative to do things himself, without complaining! And his mood is super chipper the majority of the episode, which is very enjoyable for a change. It makes me wonder if he enjoys being self-sufficient (but that’s another post for another day).

Shadow: The Black Jaguar

Shadow: The Black Jaguar was the first Wild Kratts episode I ever saw. Way back in March of 2021 I was watching this episode with some students in a class I was subbing for. I just clicked on it for them, and…the rest is history! One of the kids kept talking about Zach, “why does his plane have a V on it? Zach starts with a Z” (good job, 1st grader, you know your letters, lol).

And of course the fangirl in me focused in on the whiny man to try and figure out why the plane had a V on it, but then I saw his interactions with Shadow….and his good looks, whiny and charming antics, and affinity for cats (sorry, he’s a cat guy, even if he won’t admit it) won me over. This episode also has a lot of fun scenes with Aviva and the bros. I love the scene where Martin is trying to activate the power suit to become a Black Jaguar, and the little slide of hand to replace Shadow with the bunny toy: excellent. 

Mystery of the Weird Looking Walrus

Mystery of the Weird Looking Walrus is another favorite of mine, if not my all time favorite, and yes, this is partially for the trench coat, but not entirely, haha! In this episode we get so much information about Zach: his favorite color, his extra toe, his favorite person, his favorite number, his preferred foods per day….so much canon content for the fangirl! We learn that Zach’s an overeater, and the villains know him for becoming ill from overeating. So, it’s a canon moment where his reputation is tarnished even among his closest peers, and maybe it’s wrong, but I love it, it sort of gives another level of humanity to Zach for me.

Zach also uses his Instafreeze device in this episode. Any episode where Zach uses non animal powered inventions are awesome in my opinion. They show Zach’s true potential as an inventor: he can craft inventions from his own mind, he does not need animals to create wonderful inventions. And finally, I love all his interactions with Donita. The man spends an entire episode trying to please her…this shows how much he values her as a person and adds yet another level of humanity to Zach that is usually overshadowed by all his “me me me” nonsense. 

Favorite Episodes Not Including Zach

The Great Froggyback Ride

As for favorite episodes that do not involve Zach, my first go to is The Great Froggyback Ride. I’ll be honest, the reason why: ROYGBIV. For personal reasons I connect to this episode: I love all the colors of the rainbow and rainbows are very important to me as a symbol of hope and rebirth. So, the amount of color used in this episode just caught my attention, that scene where Chris is dancing and his suit is changing colors makes me feel awe, lol. Also my grandpa’s name was Roy, so, anything with Roy in it is excellent in my book.

Voyage of the Butterflier XT

Another episode I like, for the message in it, is Voyage of the Butterflier XT.  Butterflies are one of my favorite creatures, hands down, and they also stand as another symbol of hope and rebirth for me, and that’s kind of the message in this episode. The caterpillars hatched out of their eggs, munched on oodles of food, made their chrysalises, and transformed into butterflies that made made the long trek to another country just for the sake of laying their eggs and restarting the life cycle. This show that while life may be short for some animals, all animals have a purpose to fulfill within their lives. Maybe it is morbid, but it’s a positive way to view life and death, and I appreciate the way the Kratt Brothers addressed this difficult topic, especially so early on in the series.

Sooo this was super long, but I truly enjoyed it, kudos to all who read until the end, lol!

I honestly love how we get to see more chris and martin fighting, usually the other fights are like...it doesnt last long but THIS where they just seperate eachother i went crazy like WHAT

Paisleys character development is CRAZY BRO like i thought I'd never see a villain like...change their ways from what i remember from wild kratts

Its crazy that i actually started sympathizing her like holy shit i love the character development, she used to be my second hated character (first is zach) and that scene where she changed her mind on being a villain i was blown away honestly, there are alot of villain in wk that i feel sympathetic for but zach is just the most unlikeable villain i could ever meet

Honestly my complaint is that zach is there, hes like a pest or a parasite i need him terminated this is a kratt brothers episode this does NOT have to have zach crawling in there like GTFO LET ME HAVE MY SIBLING ANGST DAMNIT

And also when chris and martin started singing....now this is my opinion but im not a big fan when characters sing out of nowhere like musical scenes whatever you call it because you never see an episode where a character has a musical scene in wk until now so i got caught off guard LMAO

And thats all i had to say honestly, i love this movie, probably the best movie yet im so glad wild kratts kept feeding me more of that wkcocain to snort on i love it

Wild Kratts - Our Blue and Green World: Part 1: Review [Spoilers]

Welp, here it is, the Wild Kratts TV movie (not to be confused with the feature film they've been teasing us with since 2021). There's been a lot of hype around this special and season, especially with how much the latter was being hyped up during the hiatus. Let's see if the blue and green bros were able to deliver: Spoilers under the cut

Well, this is certainly an attention grabber!

This entire live action intro is shot and edited like an animated Wild Kratts episode, it's glorious.

Woah, intro change!

They said the thing! They said the thing!

HELP THIS IS SO RELATABLE. Also, THE BOYS ARE FIGHTING

Lmao I don't think they do it very often, but using animals/nature in their insults is very creative.

Also, whooping crane episode when?

This entire song is mercifully short. Like most character sung songs in Wild Kratts, it's not good, but this at least is clever in its lyrics and its visuals. It feels like a Disney reference at best and I am content with that. I also ADORED seeing the Draco and Walrus Suit return again. It's arguably the best musical number in the series. No, that is not saying a lot.

CHRIS WHY ARE YOU MILDLY INCONVENIENCED YOU GOT ACRAPHOBIA FALLING FROM THAT HEIGHT

When I first saw the clip, I thought that they were going somewhere with this, like they'd activate Peacock Powers at the end when they recognized the compatibility and blue and green. But nope. Wasted potential is an understatement.

Also, where the fuck are they right now? In a previous shot there was Target the Chameleon, implying that they've been to Madagascar, but that is an Indian peafowl, and as far as I'm concerned, they don't live in Madagascar. Were they just having an off-day? These animals have little to nothing to do with the plot when they really shouldn't have, so I don't see why they couldn't have just shown a projector image or something.

Remember when I joked about the Wild Pony Power Suit returning in S7.... fuck you Apollo.

Man, they are eating it up with the animation here. It's hard to tell with screengrabs but man, is it fluid.

The first half of this episode is mixed. While it feels like the brothers are incredibly stubborn, it also does make sense for them to be this fixated on their favorites. So I can totally buy this. It could've been insufferable to watch, but it wasn't.

As if YOU haven't spied on them since the first time your dorito-headed ass showed up on screen

Did you find that funny? Because not only do they do a similar joke like that later on, but they follow through on that joke in the most unexpected way you will shit your pants when you first ingest it.

Oh my god if they make a Creature Power Suit off of that bird, I will take back any diss I've made, that is so beautiful.

Good to know that Aviva put the button near the chest and not near the back.

Maybe it's just me but this is kinda pushing it. Chris is literally getting his organs crushed, I think that should matter more than A) being right or B) trying to get 2 people to stop fighting.

I'm loving the callback and what this leads up to but ew, all this does is remind me about how ugly bright the color pallatte in S6. Really glad they fixed it in S7.

HELL FUCKING YES

This episode finds really unique ways of showing how the two different biomes are interconnected. It's like Rainforest Stew's (very brilliantly handled) message only to a larger degree. Kids can learn a lot from this.

I fucking love this episode, man.

Honestly, the way they write Paisley in the first half of the episode is very in-line with her character. Most shows that do what this episode does has them be out-of-character as a set-up, but here, she's just roasting the fuck out of Zach. Once again, recontextualized entirely in the climax.

HOW THE FUCK DID HE GET TO MADAGASCAR FROM THE GODDAMN AMAZON IN ONE AFTERNOON THAT IS LIKE MORE THAN 1,000 MILES AWAY?? ARE ANACONDAS THAT FAST?????

I was frankly expecting this to horribly backfire but spoilers, it doesn't. This actually winds up working. Common Aviva W.

To be continued.... will the blue and green rivalry end? Will one prove superior over another? And will they be able to stop Zach and Paisley and save the planet earth? And will this change the adventures of the Wild Kratts team forever? Stay tuned for part 2!

Pros:

The live action segments.

The animation of the earth's model.

The musical number not being ass.

Paisely's catty behavior.

The Anaconda Suit.

The inventive ways they show how the stability of the Earth is complex. There are a lot of ways it functions and thus a lot of ways it needs to survive

The comedy.

Cons:

The villains do not do anything until the second half of this episode. In fact, they're left completely in the backdrop. I expected them to make their prescence known and for Aviva to invent the discs to get them together for the SAKE of fighting the villains. But no. It makes the stakes feel hollow, which is the opposite of what they should be gunning for in an hour long special that they hype the shit out of.

CONCLUSION:

It was an "okay" set-up. It did live up to some of the hype it had, but not all of it. Honestly if it wasn't for the second half of this episode, this movie would be mediocre or slightly above average, but no. They do pick themselves off the ground and... they do jump the shark. But we'll get to that next time

I've tried a couple of times already to post about my adoration for the "lemur legs" episode, but the platform doesn't cooperate because it has too many GIFs, but that won't stop me jsjsjs. So here I go again, a little shorter and with less content

More than anything I just wanted to say how amazing it was that the villain in this episode devised a distraction so that the team would not find out about his plans by using their soft spot for animals, in this series I have no memory of seeing any another villain to do this before, despite it being a great idea

That and also this scene

This was great, because just like with the villain's plan, I had never seen until now in other episodes the rest of the team cooperate to save the endangered animals and the brothers, by directly confronting the villain, and it's something that I would love to see more often

Zach Varmitech’s tenth appearance in Wild Kratts was in the episode Falcon City (Episode 21, Season 1).

Zach the self-centered, cleaning obsessed, man child strikes again! This time he has it out for all the birds! But karma will come for him! Zach starts out the episode consuming a delicious cookie served to him on a silver platter on his favorite pillow on a park bench…uhhh, that’s a bit much, lol. And when a pigeon shows interest in his cookie, he mocks the pigeon, then it takes his cookie…karma. Zach has his Zachbots painting a portrait of him and when they invade his space he scares them instead of listening to Chris’s warning. Then the pigeons crap all over his portrait and he gets whacked by the bird swatter 😂…karma.

Zach refuses to wait to clean his building until after Fluff has learned to fly…he and the Kratts battle it out! Until Aviva shows up, and instructs the Zachbots to fly south…and have them take Zach with them. Also…karma.
