I am currently creating my own business! PiecesPureFinds.

I have sketched out a tree design and worked on a logo, I will be making nature products, such as hoodies, home gifts, jewellery inspired by nature using wire. I am building my own website at the moment and hoping to make it go live in the next week or so. I want to share awareness of nature ethical issues in my work, this could be by a phrase or a illustrated piece.

Attempt number 2 turned out so much better. I’m happy with the end product. Now it’s time for bed! #ocelot #watercolourpainting #danielsmithwatercolors #qorwatercolors #wildlifeart #natureart #caturday

Cormorant at Wollaton Park - made with watercolours and a biro

People often go to @wollatonhall for the majestic deer, the beautiful hall itself, the heron roost often packed with far too many herons for one tree. I go mostly for the Mandarin ducks, the noisy parakeets and the rather charming cormorants.

The colours a bit deep on this one so you can’t see the wing details too well in a picture so I’m not super happy with this.

Made with @schmincke_official watercolours and a biro

Njosnavelin
Copyright Sarah Soward
Oil on Canvas. 18x24 inches.
I have a deep love for blue. It shows up in a great number of my paintings. One day I decided to change a painting that was becoming far too complex into something deep and dark, mysterious and blue.

I let it be done.

This is Njosnavelin, inspired by Signor Ros’ Nothing Song, and number of other things.

The painting is highly varnished to bring out as much richness in the depths of all that blue as I could possibly manage.

Original available on my website.

On the Brink: Asiatic Lion
Copyright Sarah Soward
Oil on panel
Original available @kennedy_grace_gallery

When I get overwhelmed (like now, lol), I think of this painting.

What have I done?
How did I get myself here?
Do I want to go back?

Historically, if that’s a word I can use about my little life, I make some changes and continue leaping forward. Change comes with risk.

Renouncing Violence

Oil on canvas. 14x24 inches.

I told ya I’d post this today, my continuation from yesterday’s post about the initial paintings for the Rhinoceros Sutra project with Ashli Kingfisher.
Renouncing Violence was inspired by the 1st stanza of the Rhinoceros Sutra, as translated from the Pali by Thanissaro Bhikkhu.

I’ll get back to posting the digital continuation of this project shortly. Everything is still in progress!

Shed Concern
Copyright Sarah Soward 2020
Oil on canvas. 14x24 inches.

Shed Concern was inspired by the 9th stanza of the Rhinoceros Sutra, as translated from the Pali by Thanissaro Bhikkhu. Artist Ashli Kingfisher and I began working on ideas for an illustrated version of the sutra. This is one of two preliminary oil paintings for that project. The project is now being created through digital means due to restrictions of the COVID pandemic. Shed Concern and Renouncing Violence are the only two oil paintings I completed for this before we were locked down and I was no longer able to safely paint with oils.

I’ll post Renouncing Violence tomorrow. <3

On the Brink: Cheetah
Copyright Sarah Soward 2016
Oil on canvas

This study of a cheetah is part of my On the Brink series. The tree is lightly painted to be almost ghost-like and a root or two dangle farther down the cliffside. The brighter colors are there to allow this to still brighten a room, and a mind, with hope. The cheetah is looking away from the cliff edge, after all.
