The fact that Willow isn’t taking itself too seriously makes some of the criticisms I’ve seen of it kinda funny. It’s like “oh that scene was a bit goofy” yeah that’s the point. and “oh that line was a bit cheesy” yeah that’s the point. and “well it’s a bit camp and eighties” YEAH THATS THE POINT

I wanted to submit this to the-owl-house-takes but they don't take asks anymore and are ending the blog.

Anyway, I think I'm getting a little bit sick and tired of seeing characters act like idiots on fics and fanart where they're not together yet. Like in those getting-together fics where both characters have a crush but they're not dating yet? I'm tired of people writing the characters to be idiots at romance just to stop them from getting together.

I understand these are all neurodivergent teenagers who all have their own trauma but, at the end of the day, they're not morons. They know a few social cues, they can tell what flirting is supposed to be. I was a neurodivergent teen with problems socializing but I still knew *some things* about romance.

The character who suffers from this the most is Hunter I think. Tho Luz is a victim of it too but Hunter is the most notable. I understand that he was raised in a cult so maybe he doesn't comprehend romance as well as other teens but he's not stupid, okay? I'm tired of people writing him stupid or too socially inept to even flirt or make jokes.

Canon Hunter makes jokes all the time! I know there's a common headcanon of him being autistic but not like this, dudes.

Maybe I sound conceited when I say I think I write characters a lot better than others. I try to make them awkward crushing losers but without them looking completely socially inept. A lot of fan writers don't strike that balance.

Anyway, maybe I should just read some Established Relationship stuff for a minute.

(this is isn't directed at any specific author/artist, it's a pattern I have seen in multiple fan works by multiple people and tbh it's okay if this is how you choose to write these characters. I just don't feel like reading it anymore)

after that, you're even more pissed LOL he catches you in the library bc you are actually there searching for a book and he turns down your aisle. and he opens his mouth to try and say something, but he can't 🥺 bc he doesn't know what to say !! and you notice and it's your turn to leave this time, storming right past him as he balls his hands into fists !!

the only time he manages to say something, it's: "will you just listen to me for one damn second ?" as he's practically chasing you across campus, and he HATES this, bc enough people saw what happened in the library that day and know all about it, and now they can see him clearly struggling to get your attention. but you just shake your head, hugging your books tighter to your chest before turning to stare down at him, one step higher than he is on the stairs.

"how about you tell mina and then she can just tell me later."

and the last thing is when he calls you 🥺 and he's not expecting you to pick up, but you do 🥺 and you're silent on the other end for so long that he wonders if maybe it's an accident, has him asking, "hello ? you there ?" and you just hum once 🥺 and tell him, "yeah, but not for long. just missed your voice." and then you hang up !! 🥺 cut him off !!

Can we stop acting like m/f ships suck, because they're m/f?

Idk about you, but to me m/f ships only suck if they're very forced, clearly writen to get together because "they're boy & a girl, so they must be in love", don't have any chemistry, have romance being forced into their relationship because "they're the main character boy & girl, so they must fall in love" etc. etc.

I have seen people say "oh hey, some might hc m/f ship bi/pan" and while I get what people are saying at the same time...it also kinda bugs me.

I have my own m/f pairings that I ship, but I don't hc them bi/pan, like sometimes I just see them as just straight.

But I don't ship them because they're a boy & girl or because they might be straight. No, I ship them because of their relationship.

Another reason why I find the whole "m/f ships suck, because they're m/f!!!" thing annoying is that it gives the idea, that only m/m & f/f are the only forms of representation.

Not sorry to burst you bubble, but m/f can also bring representation.

a m/f pairing, where one or both characters are plus sized.

a m/f couple, where one or both are interracial

a m/f pairing where one or both characters are disabled.

a m/f pairing where one or both characters are bi/pan/omni/poly

a m/f pairing where one or both characters are trans

a m/f pairing, where abuse victim has found someone who loves them

or hey, maybe even a "generic white" m/f pairing would actually be good.

Because idk about you, but seeing a m/f old married couple which doesn't fall into the "nagging wife & dumb, lazy husband" and "they hate each other but don't get divorce" and "haha marriage is a nightmare haha so funny the husband feels tied down while the wife regrets marrying him haha so funny" trope, would be nice :)

I understand why would people be extra critical of m/f pairings, but please, can we recognize when the m/f is actually being forced?

Please let's recognize difference between "this m/f ship is actually being forced" vs "this m/f isn't actually being forced, I just don't ship it :/"

so i've seen the idea that hunter, due to something about grimwalker anatomy/creation, would start to have issues with his physical health after being disconnected from the ambient magic of the isles (like how luz's glyphs don't work in the human realm), which is a cool source of angst or hurt/comfort

but if i may add some fluff/extra comfort to that concept:

(some background first)

1: witches have their own stores of magic bc of their bile sacks, like how lilith could cast spells in the human realm. (i personally imagine their bodies can generate their own magic for a while even after not absorbing any of the ambient magic of the isles. but after TOO LONG (specific time length depends on the individual witch + how much bile they use every day but i wanna say a couple months on average maybe?) their body kinda stops being able to produce bile; it's like vitamin deficiency preventing your body from regenerating but instead of vitamins, it's titan magic)

2: things like galderstones and palismen/palistrom wood (which hunter is made of) kinda like, connect to and channel the magic of whatever witch wields them. and this generally only happens when the witch is physically holding said items

what i am getting at, with these two things in mind:

-hunter would need to absorb/connect to the magic of his witch friends ("witch" as in species, in this case), as a temporary replacement for magic from the isles/titan, at least until they can get back home

-the way for this connection to happen is by physical contact

SO BASICALLY: hunter, while stuck in the human realm, needs to be held (or otherwise be given physical contact) quite often, for his physical wellbeing
