A LOVER’S RETREAT TO MONDSTAT

tldr: cyno x reader, tighnari x reader. i was tempted to write this as all three of them together but i decided against it. COLLEI IS LIKE A DAUGHTER TO ME…slight spoilers for the windblume event! slightly jealous tighnari in his part. mostly fluff. reader is from sumeru i guess…sososo sorry that tighnari’s part is shorter :( i wanted them to both be around the same length but oh well.

TIGHNARI grips you tighter as the four of you reach mondstat’s city gate. the watchmen are looking at you with a little too much ‘windblume spirit’ — and he can admit it’s making him a little wary. collei is talking excitedly about her friend amber, and cyno is making jokes that nobody understands. you sigh, feeling tighnari squeeze you tighter when you pass a group of particularly drunk-looking guards.

“jealous of them, ‘nari?” you laugh. your boyfriend scowls, glaring daggers at whatever poor sap decided to look at you that night.

“you know i’m protective,” he interjects. he’s right— you’d never once felt truly in danger around him. tighnari’s gloved hands snake completely around your waist, and his hair tickles the back of your neck. he presses a kiss to your nape, before resting his face in your hair. “i take care of what’s mine, you know.”

before you can reply, tighnari is suddenly dragging you up the path that you have somehow fallen behind on. sly bastard!

CYNO isn’t touching you as you arrive in mondstat, but he’s standing so close to you that it’s driving you crazy. something about him being “cyno the adventurer” and you being “y/n the beautiful dancer from sumeru”. why he had to put ‘beautiful’ in there, you didn’t know. but it was clear that he was trying to save some sort of face in front of his friends.

your relationship was certainly no secret; and especially since this was a vacation there was no reason to be shy. windblume was a time for romance for archon’s sake!

the traveler came and introduced you to a few people— namely sucrose, amber, and albedo. plans were made to go camping. you were ready for an exciting night under the stars on the beach with your lover.

“y/n, would you like to share a tent?” cyno asked, his white hair down and flowing down his shoulders. you gave him a funny look, and he gave you one right back.

“what sort of question is that? we live together, cyno.”

cyno blushed and scratches the back of his neck. “well, i suppose i just wanted to ask.”

you sigh, moving to sit right next to him. cyno’s arm winds it’s way around your waist until his warm hand is rubbing affectionately at your hip. instinctively, you lean closer into him until you’re practically in his lap.

“thanks, cyno.” you whisper, pressing a quick kiss to his cheek and delighting in how red his face goes in a matter of seconds.

Cyno Lore in the limited time event Windblume that takes place in Mondstat where he just happened to be visiting for a vacation: With the spirit of Hermanubis and his background as a dessert dweller he could have very well be subjected as a an experiment among those of the Akademiya. However through the compassion of a certain professor he was given the tools he needed to be one of the very few desert children that had received education while learning a way to control the ancient power that had once caused him great misery and strife. Driven by his strong sense of justice and through his professors help, he then became the General Mahamatra though he still faces the blatant discrimination due to his background leading him to have a tough exterior with very little genuine connection to anyone. Also, he thinks TCG is really rad and goes out of his way to share this hobby as a way of growing closer to someone.

Headcanon that the reason Tighnari doesn't want to admit Cyno is older is because Cyno doesn't actually know how old he is. THEREFORE it's possible (although exceeding unlikely) that Tighnari is older, and he isn't going to let that drop.

When Cyno was young, the doctors guessed as best they could based on his growth and the research available about malnourished children, but it was only a guess. His birthday is just a day he and Cyrus chose.

i haven’t even finished the windblume event yet, but i really love what they’re doing with collei and sucrose… some people seemed to be kind of disappointed that sucrose “replaced” amber as collei’s friend, but i really don’t see it that way. i think it’s good that she is able to make more new friends, especially since her aspiration of becoming “just like amber” one day might have actually pushed her into becoming someone she’s not? collei made a comment about how her personality is “weird” and how she’s actually nothing like amber, but through her new friends (especially sucrose) she’s learning to be more secure in her own personality. collei is not amber, but that’s ok! considering their history, it’s completely understandable why collei would idolize amber so much, but she doesn’t have to be “just like amber” to be a good person who’s fun to be around and valued by her friends :D

Hear me out. AU where Nahida meets little Cyno as he's experimented on by the Akademiya, similar to how Dunyarzad met her in her dreams.

She feels like a kindred spirit with Cyno. They're both trapped, but she's also so upset that she can't help him. The best she can do is shape his dreams to be more pleasant, taking him by the hand to draw him away from the horrors and toward places neither of them have ever been, but Nahida has seen (like we saw in 2.8 for GAA). Mondstadt, Liyue Harbor, The Grand Narukami Shine. She tells him stories of all these lands, like Venessa and the Four Winds of Mondstadt, or Kitsune Saguu. She spends the nights painting him the most colourful of dreams. She listens to his thoughts of hopelessness, of how she's his only friend-- the only kindness he's ever received.

Eventually, Cyno is taken in by Cyrus. The experiments stop, but so do his dreams. Nahida still checks in on his thoughts, though, just to make sure he's safe. He follows Cyrus to the Akademiya like a lost duckling, jumping at shadows and twisting the fabric of his clothes between anxious fingers. He's shy and quiet and perpetually vigilant, but he learns Lisa-- one of Cyrus' students-- is from Mondstadt. So he approaches her of his own accord to ask about stories. Lisa is surprised. As far as she knew, her professor's son didn't talk to anybody, but she likes children well enough. She tells him stories from her memory, Venessa being his favourite because she was trapped too.

Cyno believes he spoke to the dendro archon, but he doesn't talk about it. He asked Cyrus, once, why Lesser Lord Kusanali never leaves her sanctuary, but Cyrus had no good answer. He remembers the way Nahida understood him, and so he suspects the truth-- she can't leave. It doesn't stop his quiet devotion, even if he never speaks of it. He loves the Grand Bazaar for that.

When he's older, Cyno briefly considers Haravatat as his darshan, but Spantamad is where his interests lie. Besides, Haravatat won't focus on stories the way he'd like. He can't help but pick up a few classes, though.

Even as a matra, and eventually the General Mahamatra, he can't find any information about Lesser Lord Kusanali. In fact, the only one he ever speaks of it to is Tighnari.

It's quiet in Gandharva Ville, and Cyno asks in a tone of voice Tighnari has never heard, "what do you think of the gods?" Tighnari never put much thought into them at all. He says as much, and asks what Cyno thinks. And, well, how could Tighnari not love a god who gave his partner hope? (Years later, when the traveler comes looking, Tighnari directs them to the Grand Bazaar.)

The quest itself doesn't change much, but the first time Nahida and Cyno speak alone, he thanks her. He may have helped save her, but she saved him long before that.

Kaeya & Venti’s Relationship

I both love and hate that Kaeya and Venti don’t have voice lines about each other.

They interacted in Windblume in the weirdest and most tense-filled interaction (my interpretation) I’ve seen yet, and Kaeya was not a part of the Dvalin quest, so he does not have confirmation (at least from Venti’s mouth) that Venti is Barbatos.

On top of that, we don’t have confirmation if Kaeya even suspects Venti as anything. Perhaps he does, because of his odd request to be a part of a poetry class with Venti and his even odder use of hilichurl to say something insulting (likely, if I understand this right) intentionally. If he didn’t look it up just for this poem, then he knows the language because of his connection to Khaenri’ah. (Learned on his own or shares the curse—which he should from my understanding of my recent completion of the Chasm.)

Now if the poem was just his way to get out some pent-up emotions or if he’s sending a warning to Venti, there’s no confirmation as of yet. And Venti, as always, seems to hide his true feelings and thoughts.

I so badly want to know if Venti knows Kaeya’s origin and how he feels about Kaeya being a Mondstadt citizen. And I want to know if Venti has grown on Kaeya at all, if Kaeya would side more with the Abyss sibling or has Dain’s more neutral stance.

Cannot wait for Mondstadt characters in general to deeply get back into the lore of Genshin.

Personally, I like the thought of the gods being different from how they are now, like very different, and that Celestia is more twisted than simply being a place, but also that Khaenri’ah isn’t completely innocent in its part of history, so there will be unfavorable truths about both sides revealed later on.

Additionally, I wonder if Khaenri’ah descendants are found, so far, only in Mondstadt because of Venti’s history of being an “absent” god, so it feels safer to join Mondstadt over Inazuma or Liyue because of their more hands-on gods.

Or, I wonder if there could be another explanation that has to do with Venti’s actions, or lack of action, in the past, specifically in regards to Khaenri’ah.

So many possibilities with these two. I constantly forget the timeline as well, so I forget Kaeya isn’t 500 years old and may not even have as strong of a connection or devotion to Khaenri’ah anymore.

But he still seems very shady at times, like he knows something, so I’m excited to see where that goes.
