The Narcissist Boy
A PERSONAL ESSAY
In relationships of my youth I was a chaos creator.  Then I grew up (it can be argued), and redeveloped who I was after a dating lifetime of pursing others had been role-reversed when I dated Jonah Windur.  Previous dating pursuits were rebuffed or only looked good on paper.  With Jonah Windur, finally, my display of domesticity, a role I had auditioned for countless times…

Hey! First at all, let me tell you a thing: you're lovely, I adore your blog and you sure seem a genuinely amazing person! Thank you for everything you do ♡ And, if possible, I would like to ask you a thing. I'm playing Zestiria, again. And I would really, really love to get all the trophies this time, it would make me so happy. But I really suck I'm afraid, and if it's not a bother, I wanted to ask you any tips to help me finally complete this game... I love you a lot, you're amazing! ♡
Thank you, I try my best to make this blog a wonderful place.  As for your question (I’m assuming the achievements are the same across PC/PS3/PS4):
For all the collection-y stuff, use a FAQ!  That way you won’t have to worry about missing a skit or items or optional boss locations!
Switch around who you control!  There’s an achievement for having each character be controlled for 100 battles!
As for the story even boss battle achievements, they’re either:
Do the battle on a second (or later playthrough) at any difficulty
Do the battle on Hard or higher difficulty on a first play through
AND use no items
It sounds overwhelming at first, but what it really means is not using Life Bottles or gels to revive/heal allies.  That means taking advantage of equipment skills like Phoenix or the Mabo Curry Bun Inn food bonus or the Lord of the Land boon to revive KO’ed allies, or watching your team mates’ HP so you can command the to armatize (really helpful for keeping Rose alive) or tag them out for a healthier team mate (for the Seraph).  Also remember that you can revive Sorey or Rose by having them armatize with their Seraph partner as long as their partner Seraph has 1 BG to enact the armatus.  As for Alisha, once she’s down, she’s down so just keep that in mind for the early game bosses and That One Boss.
For the Heldalf achievement, the goal is to do all 3 phases of his fight without retrying, not without using items, so spam items at will!
Also, if you’re going for the Defeat Heldalf on Chaos achievement, you’ll want to make sure you’re playing on Chaos for a good chunk of the playthrough - the game gives you better equipment drops based on how many battles you’ve done on that playthrough on each difficulty, so playing mostly on Chaos difficulty means you get much better equipment drops with multiple equipment skills which you’ll want to help you defeat Heldalf.
General combat advice: Detailed guide here.  (AKA Soymilkheaven’s Guide to the Basicis of Tales of Zestiria Combat)
Also, super important for clearing on difficulties above Normal.  It’s also got basically every last one of my secrets to playing on Chaos.
For the Crucibles achievement: Detailed post/advice for clearing the crucibles here.
Also, the above linked general combat advice guide.  The skills discussed in there will help you clear the Crucibles, especially the Seraphim ones.
Keep in mind Zaveid’s Crucible is actually in Hexen Isle, and is appropriately difficult to match.
Also, difficulty doesn’t matter for this one, so if you’re having a really hard time, you can drop the game down to Simple just for the clear and as long as you cleared all 8 of them, you should still get the achievement.
For Grade farming for the max level Lord of the Land achievement/getting above 50 Grade achievement: Detailed guide here.  Plus, Double Grade from the NG+ Grade Shop.  That always helps.  ;)
General equipment fusion guide (for the equipment skill achievements): Detailed guide here.
Keep in mind in order for you to get the “A Double Take” achievement, you’ll need to have done a majority of your battles on Hard or higher to get an x2 equipment skill drop.  Doing it on NG+ can help, especially with mystic arte/arte proficiency/herb usage carryover bonuses and the extra HP bonuses enabled.
As for funding the fusion ones . . . Drop Bottles and +Gald drop rate bonuses from inn food/Lord of the Land/Grade Shop are going to be your best friend here.  The best food I use to Gald farm is are the Fried Shrimp in Lohgrin (+75% Gald earned for getting 10k or more max damage), as breaking 10k is doable if you get Sorey and your preferred partner Seraph set up with Faira/Acqua/Urth/Windur stacks (choose the appropriate element for the Seraph in question) and spam mystics.  The 7 stack bonus (Axcell) or Sorey’s Irminsul can help reduce the cost of mystics, and there are a few battle actions you can unlock to help reduce the costs of those as well.
Good luck with those achievements!  Don’t hesitate to drop me another ask if you have more questions!

Hello! I'm planning to fight all the Malevolent Crucibles in Zestiria for the achievement. May I ask for advice on what skills I should aim to put in my equipment? Advice for each characters would be great, but a general advice is also good! Thank you in advance!
Sorry for the super late reply anon!  I got busy, then sick with food poisoning, then had to rush to finish Berseria (not quite there yet) but I didn’t want to keep you waiting any longer so here goes:
How hard the crucibles are to clear depends on your level.  The higher the level, the better your stats and equipment and the more artes you have, so it’s a little bit easier.  (General advice and more under the cut, this thing got long):
But in general:
Rest at an inn before you attempt any Crucible.  Resting at an inn ensures your SC will recover at its full rate in combat, plus you can get a nice buff to help you when you need it in combat.  I generally recommend a “heal when you are below X% health” food if you have it available.
For the Seraphim Crucibles: Remember that the later in a combo a Seraphic Arte is, the faster the casting time.  Taking quick steps adds to your combo, so a quick and easy way to get a Seraphic Arte as the 4th in a chain is to simply take 3 quick steps and then start casting.
Also, for higher tier Seraphic Artes (think Mikleo’s Freeze Lancer or Lailah’s Flare Vortex), make sure you are using Chain Cast to fire them off as quickly as possible.
In general, if you have 2 stars of proficiency in the first tier heal (Imbuement, Resilient Aid, etc) or higher, you can get away with not having healing skills on equipment as long as you do the 3 steps and cast combo.  You’ll usually get your heal off before the attack lands.
Check enemy strengths/weaknesses/type throughout the run.  Every once in a while, they’ll give you an enemy that will resist your primary damage type, so make sure you know which attack will get you that Power Hit Combo so you can make the most of your damage.
Fight defensively - I cannot emphasize this enough.  Don’t blindly charge in, wait until the enemy is in the middle of an attack or is just finishing one before you start your own.
Also, make sure you have at least the first mystic before you attempt these, whether it’s by carrying them over from a cleared save or learning them on your current save.  The damage will come in handy, especially if you’re running the Crucibles on a difficulty above Normal, and are practically required if you’re planning on clearing them on Chaos.  (I, for one, don’t think I could have cleared any of them on Chaos without it.)
That said, if you’re clearing them for the achievement and don’t care about bragging rights, I don’t think it matters what difficulty you cleared them on.
On status effect protection: Some Crucibles (*coughMikleo’scough*) will throw 3 different status effects at you.  Personally, I prioritize protection for status effects that limit my movement (so Slow first, then Paralysis), since not being able to quick step around the arena is instant death.  Being able to Quick step around the arena is super important, as it lets you quick evade enemy attacks for SC and BG, in addition to my aforementioned strategy for getting Seraphic Artes off quickly in the Seraphim Crucibles.
Generally useful equipment skills to have (assuming you don’t have a union bonus you’d like to keep): Plezur (heal while in a combo - stepping around the arena counts by the way), Primor (heal while defending - you’re going to be doing a bit of that), and Gaine (heal for defeating an enemy), and if you’re heavy on the BG usage, Wundor (BG for defeating an enemy) and Farrest (BG for defending - you must block long enough for the red aura to go off) can also be useful.  Also, just having Voyd/Faira/Urth/Acqua/Windur for the appropriate characters can also help with boosting damage if you have them already.
For Sorey:
Hardest wave is the final one - it’s a Scaled Bird (remember those fire-breathing dragon-like hellions in Guinevere and Artorius’s Throne?) so make sure you eat a Strawberry Waffle before you enter so you don’t get hit with Burn.
Health recovery skills on equipment can be really helpful, since your other alternative for healing for him is through items.
Save your mystic for the Scaled Bird.
For Mikleo:
Unless you’re up for a challenge, probably best to come back for this one, as it’s actually one of the harder ones, especially if you don’t have his first mystic to help you clear it.
There’s a few enemies in here that will resist water.  Check to see if you have access to artes that target their monster type, or, barring that, use the aforementioned quick step and cast method to fire off a few rapid Freeze Lancers or Ice Reavers - even though the enemies aren’t weak to earth, you still get full damage on them, instead of lower resisted damage numbers.
If you’re good at quick evading, you can actually use the stage with the pixies to regenerate BG, as Wind Lance is one of the more predictable spells to evade in the game.
For Lailah:
This one is another one you may want to reconsider for later, mostly because Lailah’s Crucible will require you to get into melee with enemies, and depending on how good you are playing her in melee, that could be a problem.
Best combo to use with her is her left/right melee AoE combo and chain that into Pyrogenic Ring/Blitz Bomb/Flare Vortex - pick based on which is the strongest you have available, and always Chain Cast it as the 4th arte of your combo.
If you can open up a little distance against the enemies (via a couple of quick steps so you can set yourself up for a lower cast time), Burning Strike is a good choice in here as well.
Again, Lailah can heal herself, so it is possible to ease up on the defense side of things and give her some equipment with Faira on it for faster clear time.
For Edna:
Approach is pretty much the same as Lailah’s - if you can get range, use it, and cast Rock Lance/Air Pressure/Final Embrace, Chain Casting the higher tier spells.
Otherwise, be careful about getting into melee, and don’t be afraid to defend your way up to 3 BG for a mystic if you have to.
For Rose:
Treat hers like Sorey’s.  That is to say, fight defensively, make sure you have recovery skills equipped (since she can’t heal herself)
Watch enemy weak points, and attack when they’re all clustered up together so you can hit them all at once - a staggered enemy is an enemy that can’t hit back.  At least, for a little while.
Keep in mind Rose has long-ish recovery times at the end of her 4-arte combo, so either cut your combo off at 3 artes (and backstep to retreat) or make sure your 4th arte will get you clear of the enemies.
For Zaveid:
His is a pain, because it’s tucked away inside Hexen Isle in the post game optional dungeon.  It’s also equally hard as a result.  End game gear helps a bunch, and his actually has a ridiculous number of wind-resistant enemies in there.  So much so, I’d actually say if you want to make the run a lot easier, it might be worth it to farm E-Union 7 for him (to negate enemy wind resist).  That said, it’s far from mandatory - I did manage to pull it off without it by checking which of his attacks targeted which monster weak points to start Power Hit Combos and cleared it that way.
For the human + Seraph ones:
Honestly, I cleared both of these the same way: with the Fire Armatus.  Out of all the armatuses, it’s the most flexible, capable of handling both melee and ranged attack, even if its heal is the most lackluster of the 4.  The sword swings for the Hidden Artes are wide enough that you’ll hit most enemies around you, and from there it’s just a matter of targeting monster weak points to get around resistance.
Seraphic Arte of choice here is Chain Cast spamming Calamity Flare against enemies that don’t resist both Fire and Earth, as it has the benefit of pushing enemies away from you once it finishes casting, thus giving you time to cast another while the previous one is still going.  To speed up casting times, I’d recommend doing at least one quick step followed by 2 Chain Casts of Calamity Flare.
If you’re really hung up on clearing the Sorey + Seraph one with Mikleo and the Water Armatus, it’s pretty doable, just keep track of monster types (again) for the water resistant enemies (there’s a few in his).  Best Seraphic Artes to use would either be Arrow Squall or Maelstrom for the area of effect, both Chain Cast.  That said, keep in mind Arrow Squall actually has a bit of a delay before the damage actually starts, and don’t hesistate to use Trinity Arrow if you need the monster weak point.
You’ll note I didn’t actually give any tips for fighting as 2 separate characters, and that’s because I’ve always done these in Armatus form, never outside of it.  The increased stats make it worthwhile, plus, it means you don’t have to “babysit” the AI controlled character to make sure they don’t get swarmed and get KO’ed.
I haven’t actually done the Rose and Alisha one from Alisha’s DLC, so I can’t really offer commentary on that one, but it’s not a required one for the Eight Dates With Hate achievement.  If I recall correctly, it actually has a separate achievement of its own for the DLC.
