2014 Intrinsic Cabernet Sauvignon. This inaugural entry from the winery delivers wonderfully strong aromas of black cherry and herbs, over big, ripe, dark fruit and a succulent mouth feel. Firm tannins, solid finish. Pair with spicy dishes, cold autumn nights by the fire, and moody brooding about vampires.

Poggio Argentiera 2020 Morellino di Scansano Bellamarsilia
Tumblr media
Blackberries and violet galore, with a spicy, peppery lift. No barnyard. Fresh and succulent, at times pulpy. Slightly hollow midpalate redeemed by surreptitious tannins which lend an austere, albeit welcomed finishing touch. A perky, no-frills sangiovese from coastal Maremma for your easy-drinking needs, like when you let your hair down. Or put your feet up.
Scansano, Maremma, Tuscany, Italy; 100% sangiovese; 13.5% abv.

Wine review #7: “Tesco’s finest” Prosecco Brut
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Opening: Was pleasant to open, not much strength required!
Taste: “Discovered by Tesco’s finest” it says on the back of the bottle… I think not. Since I grew up in Germany, I was socialised to start drinking quite early. Usually, when you’re younger, you cannot afford good quality things so you pretty much drink anything. But believe me when I say, never have I ever tasted something bad like this in my life… I could not even finish one glass of this piss. The only way I could finish the bottle was by mixing it with Aperol!
Headache: I have had enough headache knowing I spent money on this…

Price: 8.50£

An Accidental Carménère
A few weeks ago, we were fortunate enough to be offered some samples of Chilean Cabernet Sauvignon. Six of them, to be precise, from two major Chilean regions, Colchagua Valley and Maipo Valley, for a head-to-head Chilean Cabernet throwdown! (Read all about it here.) As we awaited the shipment, we received an email from the PR Rep coordinating the samples. Seems there was a mix up at one of the…

where is my wife
Amazon review on this Morrow edition of "Good Omens" by Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett I found this morning that left me laughing in tears right from the title.
... Actually, in hindsight, having seen the ineffable divorce™️ of Season 2, the fact that the only thing left on the cover is his glass of wine makes me so sad. It's like Crowley, having now been through all that, has left his glass of wine in the bookshop and is refusing to come back since Aziraphale is gone. Muriel doesn't really want to touch what Crowley left in the hopes he will be back soon and maybe still want his glass of "whine", whatever that is. He seemed sad last time they saw him, so that's probably what they meant by "whine".
.... Wait a minute though, did Aziraphale write this review?!? "WHERE IS MY WIFE?" ?!?!?
Okay it's time to tag him, this has gone off the rails and so have I. @neil-gaiman please explain. Thank you. (Love your work, actually. But also... What is going on here.)
Update, not even 10 hours after I originally posted this: Neil himself liked the post. I'm freaking out a normal amount about it.

PS: here's a lil thank you post for all the notes I'm getting, holy hell!!!

19 Crimes Is Terribly Underrated
Looking for a big, bold, jammy red wine for your Super Bowl party that doesn’t break the bank? 19 Crimes has to be on your list. Dark fruits greet the nose, a rich jam of dark fruits on first taste, and then a warm, vanilla-chocolate blend with a touch of sweetness and spice on the finish. How could this be a $10 wine bottle? I want to call the brand managers and tell them to double the price,…

Mt Difficulty 2012 Long Gully Pinot Noir
Tumblr media
Mature and virile. Belts out red fruit, orange zest, truffle and damp forest floor notes, harmonized by lovely herbaceous tone sans overt sweet brown spice typical in many a youthful Central Otago pinot. At a silky, sumptuous sweet spot approaching the onset of red bean soup phase. Shares a similar thread with elegantly aged '06 Bannockburn into which declassified Long Gully grapes went (if fond memory serves me right), tasted with ex-winemaker Matt Dicey aeons ago. On point.
Bannockburn, Central Otago, New Zealand; 100% pinot noir; 14% abv.

Critic Reviews
Fresh, vivid, rich and pure with bright, supple fruit and silky, spicy tannic structure. Lovely freshness and fine spiciness. Precise and bright, a lovely wine. Jamie Goode (wineanorak.com, 02/2014) 94
Medium to deep ruby-purple colored, the 2012 Long Gully Pinot Noir has lovely black berry, black cherry and wild blueberry notes with hints of pepper, dark chocolate, anise and cloves. Medium to full-bodied with a great core of black fruits and firm, chewy tannins, it has just enough acid and finishes long and earthy. Drink: 2014-2017 Lisa Perrotti-Brown (Wine Advocate, 12/2014) 92
Very full, even, vibrant dark-red colour. This has a very full nose with a dense core of earthy red cherry and berry fruits. There are complex nuances of oak, dried herbs and oak, with nutty, slightly resinous and mineral detail. Medium-full bodied and elegant in size, rich, juicy and sweet fruit flavours unfold spice and dried herb elements with hints of earth and spices. There is good vinosity to the core. The fruit lusciousness is enhanced by good levels of acidity and the palate line underscored by fine background extract and tannin. This features sweet and linear fruit drive with freshness. Complexing earthy detail and subtle herb and oak interest will grow over the next 5-7 years. Raymond Chan (Raymond Chan Wine Reviews, 01/2014) 18.5

Wine Review #6: La Vieille Ferme
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Opening: Easy peasy screw caps pleasy!
Taste: Maybe I am biased towards that wine and it seems to me that it tastes better than it does because that is a wine I bought when my friends were visiting me in Wales, that we named "Old Chicken Wine" which made us laugh out loud :) The wine indeed is nice crisp and sour, although milder compared to the wines I usually prefer. However, there are no strong flowery notes that would add unnecessary sweetness to the wine.
Headache: No headache for me :)
