I wonder if the team behind RttE based the Wingmaidens on the Bog Burglars, considering the fact that they're both a tribe made-up entirely of women only and they both have quite a low view on men except for one man, that man being Hiccup. (Or Camicazi's sole exception is Hiccup)

Ahoj! Konečně přináším novou, a dost dlouhou, část Syn, dědic a přítel. Sleduje Atali. Ta se o Škyťákově tajemství dozví tak, že si Břafan při Velkém přestupu vybere místo Rafany Škyťáka. Jak Křídlonošky i sám Škyťák s tímto vývojem událostí naloží? Přečtěte si a zjistíte to.
Přeji příjemnou zábavu ❤️.

I think it's funny that given the chance the RTTE writers decided to make the show just. SO gay. They really seized that opportunity, they were ON that.

An alternative direction for Stryke Out where Elder gets stuck in a cage, Toothless is the top competitor for more than a few dragon fights, and— what's this? By Thor, there's a colorful mood dragon here, and she can speak Norse! What are the odds of that?
Little does Elder know that wherever this mood dragon is, Camicazi will be close behind.

ONE of the Thorston twins is transgender and you cannot change my mind. Basically, there's a really common trope in Medias (especially animated ones) for there to be a set of twins who are incredibly similar in look, save for the fact that one is a girl and one is a boy. Ruff and Tuff fit this trope. every official source for HTTYD stuff refers to them as fraternal twins, but my brain refuses to see them as anything but identical.
however. identical twins are pretty much always the same sex. there are incredibly rare exceptions, but that's boring imo. so that brings up my point- in order for them to, realistically, exactly resemble one another and also be a girl and a boy, one of them is trans.
question is, which one? it could be either. my vote is for Ruff, but there's pretty much an equal amount of evidence for either. Ruff, at multiple points in RTTE gets mistaken for a man, which while that's not necessarily indicative of anything, it happens multiple times, and I'm pretty sure it doesn't happen to anyone else. in Tuff's case, throughout the latter two movies, he ties his hair in front of his face and insists that it's his beard, getting really upset when it's cut. damn near EVERY other viking man shown has some sort of facial hair, except for tuff. what're the odds that he just Happened not to inherit the gene?
anyways, I think it's Ruff for no reason other than that I don't usually headcanon many women as trans and I think they deserve this one.

Me: narratively speaking it doesn’t make sense for the dragon hunters, outcasts or berserkers to be comprised entirely of men.
Berk clearly has women warriors and doesn’t discriminate or delegate them to safer roles such as home defence. Women seem to be encouraged to be warriors and be muscly. There is a lot of interesting backstory to delve into with this, either drawing inspiration from the irl female vikings, or the darker implications of a war torn Berk desperate for all the warriors it could get its hands on regardless of birth rates (a man can have a hundred children a year, but a woman is limited to 1).
There are other tribes who blatantly follow these same practices, in some cases to higher extremes than berk. The Wingmaidens value female warriors above males as they are unable to manage the razorwhip population due to the animals gender bias. The defenders of the wing have equal male:female ratios in their village and seem to have a mandatory military service for all citizens, including women as all are in armour. Not to mention that they have a queen rather than the stereotypical chief, possibly mimicking the dragon kingdom that they worship.
Dagur doesn’t take offence to heather being a warrior, and there seems to be warrior women on berserker island, but the armada is shockingly made up entirely of men. The outcasts and dragon hunters take it a step further and have no women visible at any point. Compared to berk, the wingmaidens and the defenders of the wing, this is a massive discrepancy.
The obvious answer is that the creators didn’t have the budget for multiple character models, and so they prioritised the male models to fit the audience expectations. The defenders of the wing only have 1:1 gender ratios because their models are reused hiccup and heather models. The wingmaidens are the only culture with consistent multiple female models because it came later in the series, when the creators realised they had an extreme male heavy cast.
This is incredibly gross and should be talked about more as most modern (5 years old is still modern) cartoons have a male heavy focus in both characters and viewerbase despite a great deal of people claiming that women are fairly represented in media, and that feminism is no longer needed.
Tumblr Guy: women weren’t included for historical accuracy.

Weak: "There are other dragon riders?" is just a continuity error
Strong: "There are other dragon riders?" refers to the fact that Hiccup has never seen this kind of dragon attack before, so what he's actually thinking is "There are other dragon riders besides the ones we know of?"
Godly: "There are other dragon riders?" is Hiccup expressing interest in knowing who these mystery riders are while pretending like he doesn't know who Heather, Dagur, the Wingmaidens etc are (aka the first time Hiccup has ever convincingly lied to someone without someone else backing him up) in order to protect them because he recognises that Eret sells and profits from the dragon trade just like Viggo did, and he's thinking something reminiscent of that one line in RttE about "Eventually, he will set his sights on Berk, and on our dragons" in reference to Viggo, and about how if Eret knew about the other Riders he would absolutely go after them because that's exactly what Viggo did

Ok so, this is just a theory but. During the dragon school scenes in the first movie where Hiccup is using the tactics he has learned with Toothless to control the other dragons Gothi is always looking at him strangely. She seems to know he wasn't doing anything to physically hurt them. Which seemed to be common knowledge as when Stoick got back from his voyage Gobber said "he has this way with the beast," he never says that Hiccup is hurting the dragons. Gothi knew something was up She picked Hiccup to fight the dragon later known as Hookfang knowing he had something up his sleeves. Do you think she noticed these tactics Hiccup was using because she had knowledge of other islands/cultures with domesticated or friendly dragons like the Defenders of the Wing, or the Wingmaidens? We know that she had traveled to places far from Berk in her youth as seen in the first few episodes of Race to the Edge. She traveled to Glacier Island to find water known for it's healing properties. Do you think she ever encountered any of these other cultures on her trips for knowledge and healing wisdom? Again, just a theory, but do you think Gothi knew?
You know, I never thought about that! I've considered the fact that Gothi knew what Hiccup was up to, but I've never really thought about if she met other tribes and cultures while out on her adventures. That just makes Gothi a very much more complex character and I love it. Because she could have seen these other cultures and how they dealt with/felt about dragons, but never took credence in their ways because she was so entrenched in the dragon war. She is the healer after all. She's seen what damage dragons can do. This is so interesting! Thank you for asking!

HTTYD3: The world cant live with dragons.
RttE: Am I a joke to you?
Seriously, the entire point of RttE was exploring lands beyond the Barbaric Archipelago. The Mala and the Wingmaidens, confirms that potentially multiple other islands have achieved peace with dragons!
And the entire point of the ending of HTTYD 2 was that Hiccup planned to change the world, bit by bit, to spread their message. Even Grimmel in HTTYD 3 says that the Berkians doing so would mean the end of the world he and the dragon hunters want.
Also, this scene. The entire TV series wrote fucking circles around anything Hidden World did, or this franchise will ever do again.
