My gift for Wendip Week 2020!

Oh, come now.  You didn’t think Wendip Week would past without a surprise from yours truly, would ya?

And this one is extremely special this time around - it’s a tale I’ve been promising, oh, for about (*checks watch*) 2 years now.  At long last, it’s ready to make its debut.

For Wendip Week’s final day, I bring to you... Serendipity

"Beyond the countless dimensions, infinite universes, and unlimited possibilities, there are things that are simply meant to be - certain people who are destined to meet and how their paths are forever entwined by the cosmos and fates.  This is the story of such a pairing..."

An extra-extra-extra special thanks to one of my fav Wendip artists, alanna11 (aka @winter-maiden11​) for creating this artwork for this story several years ago.  She has waited so, so patiently for her kudos, so I hope we fellow W&D fans can give her just deserts.

Now, for the (kinda) bad news.  I originally wanted this story to be whole by the time WW rolled over, but things had come up (as with 95% else of the world these days) and it was forced to be pushed back again and again.  So, I figured I’ve give you all want I have completed so far.  The story is about 3/4 of the way done, and the rest should be coming VERY soon, so stay tuned.

After that, I’ll have one more important announcement to make, in which I’ll amend this post to make things easier for everyone.  But for the time behind, please enjoy the story, and let me know what you think.

And again, to everyone that participated this year, thanks for making Wendip Week one of my favorite times of year.  We simply can’t do it without you.

This character is based on my AU fanfic Star vs the God of Evil. This Star is from an alternate universe where Earth and Mewni never got cleaved, thus giving birth to two new god worlds called New Earth and New Mewni. These new race of gods, named the Meta Gods, are incredibly powerful pan-dimensional beings, existing at least above the fifth dimension. According to the laws of thermodynamics, energy cannot be created or destroyed. The age of queens and magic was over, now replaced by a new age of gods and science. The God of Republic Star is the most powerful god on New Mewni, and she is locked in a cosmic war spanning the multiverse against the God of Evil. Star draws her power from a special cosmic force unique to her called the Heart, of which she channels through her golden mechanical gloves. It is an extremely powerful source of reality warping energy that allows her to do all sorts of things that breaks all the rules of nature. She can teleport across vast distances of space, time travel, run to the edge of the universe in seconds at worst, create constructs from her will, fire powerful energy blasts, and so on so forth. It's actually easier to define the Heart's limit by listing what it cannot do rather than what it can do. In fact, Meta Gods are only really limited by what they are not allowed to do rather than what they cannot physically do. Rules, traditions of higher cosmic pantheons dictate their place in the universe, and thus they answer to an even higher power such as Dream or his sister Fate. Star has grown up, she's changed. You can see it in her eyes. The role of leadership, war general, and parent has changed her. She's made sacrifices and decisions she is not proud of. But she still fights on anyway, fighting for the Republic. Because if the Republic falls - Evil wins. On New Mewni, the gods can choose to have cheek marks, even those previously human or monsters and not pure Mewman. Star however chooses to leave her cheeks empty. It is by choice, not inability that there are no marks there. The armor she wears takes some inspiration from her mother's, Moon Butterfly, old armor with a few hints of grey and silver of the old world, now covered up with gold and plasma of the new world.

Wendip Week 2019 - results!

Yes, after a month of suggesting prompts and voting on them, here are the results of the Wendip Week 2019!

You were asked about wendip stories, now how about art?

Oh, wow, this is way harder, because I consume so much fanart, mostly thanks to @fereality-indy who sends me lots of it on almost daily basis. 

I have been steadily reblogging old fanart I liked to @wendip-week as a part of celebration invented by @ddp456 (and on a side note, more people should do it! I didn’t write that tutorial for nothing!). 

So I’m going to list artists here with a single pic chosen from their portfolio.

@moringmark comes to my mind first, he has done so much for the Wendip community, too bad he has backed down from that ship, though lots of pieces are still here and on DA (untagged though). This one stands out, since it’s something we’ve been all dying for: not just a kiss, but acknowledgement that Wendy has feelings for dip, even if she’s afraid to tell him.

I’ve also already mentioned @imaginashon‘s dancing piece which is just phenomenal and romantic, even if it’s not supposed to be viewed that way. 

Works by @art-pants as I said before, are so fluffy they should be illegal

@puccafangirl produces fantastic wendip as well, here is one I chose randomly. See, it is great, told you.

Works by Asestrada157 are great and realistic, with slightly more risque tone, but again, it fits the teenage romance.

And so are the works of @winter-maiden11, the older!wendip here is I think my favourite.

History: Natalia used to be much more materialistic, nearly obsessive, over her collections of books, art supplies, and trinkets. However, almost losing her life at the hands of her brother, and the after-effects of the nearly-fatal head injury he inflicted, caused her to rethink the sort of person she had grown into. When her parents sold all of the royal family's personal assets, they were going to let Natalia keep her things and send her to Southern Italia to live with Mirella's family. However, Natalia volunteered her items to be sold as well, opting to stay with her parents as they paid Leone's exorbitant fine and reunited their family.

Are you ready for Wendip Week ‘19?

Hey all, @ddp456 here, and along with my buddy and co-conspirator, @nautiscarader. we wanted to try something a bit different for this year’s Wendip Week writing prompts.  Y’know, something a bit special to spark the creative juices ̶a̶n̶d̶ ̶n̶o̶t̶ ̶'̶c̶a̶u̶s̶e̶ ̶w̶e̶'̶r̶e̶ ̶s̶a̶d̶i̶s̶t̶i̶c̶ ̶b̶a̶s̶t̶a̶r̶d̶s̶.̶ ̶

Instead of doing the “tried and true” random prompts, we would like to use our favourite quotes from the Gravity Falls series itself for inspiration.  It would go without saying that we would like to focus on lines from our favourite duo themselves.

However, it must be said that in this particular case, context is NOT king.  In fact, the more vague of a quote, the more open-ended of a response one can create.

Sure, there can be a more driven point we can use for a story:

But one could also twist the wording ever so slightly, creating a different meaning than what was meant in the show:

You can use a favorite Wendy or Dipper quote to further explore their psyches:

Or use a line to further explore a new angle that the show never bothered to reveal among its many,many secrets:

Or as a celebration of their shared bond:

Or craft new adventures based on a stand-out phrase:

Or even discover something so simple, that its meaning can be applied near-universally:

Hell, you can even go for a whopper, and deliver a masterpiece taken from one of the show’s hilarious rants:

Granted, while we would prefer keeping the quotes to Wendy and Dipper, we wouldn’t necessarily turn a blind eye (mind the pun) to an neat idea as long as it comes back to our favorite pair; no matter how tender the moment:

In two weeks time, we will be opening up a poll for the quotes above (and those created by @nautiscarader), but in the meantime, if you have a better or more interesting quote, send it in!  It can be in text (preferably with name of the episode it came from, so we can make a nice gif without searching, though at that point, I’m fairly sure @ddp456 knows all the GF episodes by heart ~nautiscarader) on gifs, like above, saving us some time.

If it helps, try the Gravity Falls Wiki for full transcripts of all 40 episodes.  And if you want to go the full gif route like I did, give Yarn a try, where copying and pasting your favorite GF quote provides the same scene which it appears or Giphy if you already have the clip. 

(sidenote by @nautiscarader: I have never heard about Yarn until now, and the fact that it does work, seemingly by having transcripts and timecodes of all episodes ever hooked up to video clips feels like black magic to me. Actually, now I explained it to myself it’s not as impressive, but still, useful as h*ck).

So yeah, the treat would be a fic or some fanart. Something kinda time consuming. But a treat usually implies something shorter. And you can vaguely suggest what kind. Like sweet treat- is fluff, nice and cute. Spicy treat- smutt, or maybe uust something a little risque if that's what you are more comfortable with. And ofcourse a sour treat- angst.

So, there you go, fellow wendippers! With that info wander to your Wendip neighbourhood and ask for trick or treat, and you might get one of these two!

Yes, after two weeks our voting has concluded! 

Quite possibly, Mabel. We all know you want Wendy to be your older sister. 

Like in recent years, our fellow Wendippers rushed to their duties immediately, casting majority of votes in the first two days. Some of you chose the prompts in incredible, 30-second time window, while one person spent whole 10 minutes on the voting page!

If you are looking for inspirations, go into the woods, help random animals, find an ancient civilisation or two, hang out in obscure diners or arcades, defeat a demon from a different dimension, and look for treasures under every rock, because as well all know, a shipper can spot a pretext to ship in any place.

Wendip July is coming and prompts are open!

Hello, fellow Wendippers!

For the last few weeks we (that is @nautiscarader and @ddp456) have been brainboxing, with your help, to think on how to improve out Wendip Week formula. We want it to be bigger, better, attract both new and old fans, and generate buzz for the upcoming anniversary of our favourite show.

And so, after listening to your voices, suggestions and complaints (for which we all wholeheartedly thank for), we’ve decided as follows:

The Wendip Week formula stays mostly the same; the Week itself will occur from 22nd to 30th of July 2018. The more observant of you will notice that it has nine days, and it’s not a mistake. Aside from seven regular prompts, we include Potluck day, during which you’d be able to use any of the prompts that have not been chosen, and a Wildcard day, which will let you create anything you want (Wendip-related of course). That means more freedom for you to create your favourite Wendip scenario if some of the prompts won’t fit your ideas.

This of course means that the prompts are open! For the next two weeks, from 18th of April to 1st of May You can send them in bulk or in separate messages to our blog. Once this is done, we will post a poll so you can choose which seven ones are going to become official Wendip Week prompts. We’ll keep you informed with deadlines by spamming your dashboard with notification posts. 

But that’s not all.

The preceding weeks (from 1st to  7th, 8th to 14th, 15th to 21st) would become what we called “Celebration weeks”. Our fandom has created lots and lots of Wendip fan content, but over the years many of these have been buried under hundreds of other reblogs, stored in the ever-growing “read later” folders, or lay forgotten with just a handful of “likes”.

Well, it’s time to dig them up. In those weeks, we would like you to reblog your favourite Wendip fan creations, post links to those if it’s not tumblr, write comments on fanart or fanfiction you love, and generally share as much Wendip as possible. So far, we decided to dedicate the weeks accordingly to the amount of different types that is posted: one to fanart, one to fanfics, and one to other forms (like cosplay, playlists, etc), though if demand is high, we can extend or divide them!

Each one will be lead by master or mistress of ceremony - someone who is well-acquainted with the subject. We will do the heavy-lifting, unless we can find someone else who would like to join us. Specific guides will be posted in June, before the weeks begin. 

And so, without further ado, our inbox is open for your prompt ideas, so send them to us!

Idea - Wendip... Month?

I (nautiscarader) have been contacted by well-known author, ddp456, who has already contributed to last Wendip Week by submitting prompts, as well as spreading word about Wendip on other social websites, about a possible change of format this year. I’ve allowed myself to include the message below:

This was my crazy idea. Considering how the show is celebrating its 5th anniversary (and pretty soon, mine as well as a GF Fanfic writer), I was thinking that for this Wendip Week this year, maybe we can go a bit bigger goal. You're going to think me insane, but what would you and your collaborators think of a Wendip Month during July? The reason I ask this is that while trying to get more people to join in the activities last year was that they didn't have enough time/didn't feel a week was long enough/once the week was over, felt it was too late to participate. This way, not only can people have a total month to pop in and out with content, but we can also stretch it out further. For example, you know I love the idea of writing prompts (of course you do, I do try to chip in every year), but this way, we can also expand on different activities as well. A few of the ones I had in mind were art prompts (and there are a lot of wendip artists on DA and tumblr waiting in the wings). Hell, another idea I had was a custom Wendip playlist thingie to share through tumblr. Again, just talking out of my ass here, but if planned right, we can definitely make it more of an impact than last year. Either way, thanks for listening, and good luck.

I promised that I will ask you guys what is your opinion on it. It is still very early, but we do want to know what do you think about expanding our shipping celebration, so that we can prepare.
