meditation
meditation is a mind and body practice that aims to enhance calmness, physical relaxation, psychological balance, and overall well-being.
it involves focusing the mind and training attention and awareness. it brings forth a mentally clear and emotionally calm state.
there are so many meditation techniques, such as being present in the moment, concentrating on specific objects or thoughts and using mantras (repetitive chants).
the practice can help manage symptoms of health conditions such as anxiety, depression, heart disease, high blood pressure, pain, and sleep problems. it increases self-awareness, reduces stress, and promotes focus on the present moment.
to practice meditation, start with one or two minutes a day and gradually increase the duration over time. find a quiet space to minimise distractions and focus.

Speaking of. Ted Lasso truly does have some of the worst kid dialogue I’ve ever seen on television. Like when 9 year old Phoebe was like “it’s understandable. You were only together a year, and most relationships can’t even survive one major career change, let alone two.” have you never met a child in your entire life

62/100 days of productivity
Thursday, February 1st 2024
(Late) happy new year! and (late) happy holidays! I've been in vacations for almost a month and a half now. That's one of the reasons I haven't been active, the other one being I forgot my tumblr password a while ago and it took me some time to move my ass and change it.
Last post was in november!!!! so long!!!! Anyways, know that I had a wonderful semester, my grades were super high (my average grade was 9,9/10!!!) and, most importantly (academically speaking), I learned a lot. I gave another lecture in december and people showed a lot of interest! Got so many questions and it pushed me to pursue the topic I was researching on and gave a lecture on.
I am currently in Europe for my vacations. Today, however, I attended a class with a friend of mine who is doing his Master's degree in Philosophy! Yes, in a different country! I got to experience what it's like to be a student here where he lives. After class we had lunch and went to the library together to study! Here's what I did in those three hours at the university library:
Read around 30 pages of a book i got in a second hand market. It's Todorov and Ducrot's "Dictionnaire Encyclopédique des Sciences du Langage"
Procedeed to read the Stanford Encyclopedia of Philosophy's entry on Philosophy of Humor as an introduction to this area that interests me
Made lots of notes on my new Muji notebook

Nihil est peius iis qui paulum aliquid ultra primas litteras progressi falsam sibi scientiae persuasionem induerunt.
- Quintilian
There is nothing worse than those who have acquired a little learning beyond their elementary education, and then falsely persuade themselves that they possess knowledge.

Epistemology be like:
You know everything.
You know nothing.
You do not know enough.
You want to know all that there is to know.
You are content with what you know.
You know things now that you were never meant to know.
You know too much.
You refuse to admit that you still know so little.
You know less than you did before.
Knowledge is laughing at you from the sidelines, a bowl of popcorn in hand. Wisdom is nowhere to be found. God is currently doing paperwork.

if you are 1) currently in a university where your student healthcare covers hormone therapy, and 2) in a good financial, emotional, and social position to start hormone therapy, i would recommend pursuing it. because in my experience, it's a huge pain in the ass to get an endocrinologist once you're on your own
#unless you live near a planned parenthood or another equivalent to that#but in general you might as well take advantage of the mandatory student health insurance while you have it#it's also cheaper than you might expect. my vials cost $40 CAD for 4 months and then the injection materials are like a couple dollars each#for me i got a therapist with the university and asked them to recommend me to one of the uni's doctors#so i got to skip some of the waitlisting process yay#and then even after getting access to hormones i went to the clinic maybe 5 or 6 times because i needed a nurse to help me with injections#all of which was 'free' because it was with the university#now that i'm graduated though i need to find a new endocrinologist and it turns out the process is WAY more complicated on your own 🤡#of course your mileage may vary depending on how based your school is but it's definitely worth checking imo 🤷#beepbeep.txt#wanted to say this because i basically didn't use the uni health services until my last year and i was like 'wow#'i'm actually getting so much shit for free right now'#like i was seeing a therapist and a dietician and the endocrinologist and a nurse simultaneously at one point#and i might've missed out on all that if i didn't have someone tell me how easy it was to get help if you ask the right questions#so there's my word of wisdom for anyone who might benefit from it.......#also going to post tips about injections later because i think that would also help people out 👍

My baby sister is moving out........ I feel so old.... but also very very proud of her for taking such a big leap. She's just 16 and she's moving to be closer to campus to fulfill her dreams. I feel... excited to go shop for curtains with her over the weekend but also very nervous. The same sort of nervous as seeing her walk to school for the first time.
I know she'll still be very close to my parents, much closer than me, just a 40 or so kilometers but it still feels like such a leap.
Then again, she's always been a go-getter, a girl with big dreams and ambitions and I know she'll run that marathon and she'll become a biologist.
Just really proud of my little sis.

There's btw one thing my thesis advisor said that I think is important, namely that when you've been thinking about a given subject for a long time, you can easily forget to mention something fundamental because it's so obvious to you, but then the other person who's not familiar with the subject cannot understand what you mean

Picture it: sophomore American history. The year is two thousand and eight. The teacher is known for passing out jolly ranchers, one per student per day, when a kid does a good job. One day, she wants us to list every state in the country. Kids start listing them off in unison, mostly alphabetically, but falter around the I states (this is in Indiana, mind). Except one triumphant voice lingers as every other voice trails off in doubt and consternation. This voice flawlessly recites every state in these United States* as the class and teacher stare in awe, and at the very end the resounding voice makes mention of Puerto Rico and Guam as territories. The teacher wordlessly hands over two jolly ranchers.
A new day. List the presidents. Nobody knows beyond Washington, Lincoln, FDR, JFK, Clinton, George W. Bush–the incumbent finishing up his final term in a few months. Except. One voice–just as triumphant–recites every president, in order, even making mention of Grover Cleveland's non-consecutive second term. Everyone–teacher and student alike–stares again, this time almost in horror. The voice, embarrassed and blushing at the stares this time, finishes the forty-three chronologically, and this time as the teacher hands over another two jolly ranchers she overcomes her shock to ask "How did you know that??"
At which the body that contains the voice shrugs sheepishly, pops a blue raspberry in their mouth, and makes a vague "I 'unno" sound–unwilling to admit that the Fifty Nifty song they sang with their class in a third grade recital had permanently seared itself into their brain, as did the Nickelodeon presidents song that aired during the Oh Four election between Bush and Kerry
*I realized after while at dinner that evening when I told my parents about it that I had completely skipped Pennsylvania and Rhode Island, but the listing was so smooth and confident that no one noticed. I never made that mistake again regardless

60 and 61/100 days of productivity
Tuesday, November 28th 2023
Last Wednesday I went to my bf's house since he had to study and didn't have time to go out, and I brought my uni stuff to study with him. We were very productive!
I studied for my Metaphysics II test (although today the professor told us that instead of giving a test, he'll be expecting us to write a simple paper and hand him next week)
also studied for Religion test
finished reading Sapiens by Yuval Harari
wrote two pages about Heidegger's "Die Frage Nach der Tecnik" for Contemporary Philosophy
Then, yesterday (monday) I went to class, went grocery shopping, did household chores, academic paperwork (validating certificates etc) and cooked myself a healthy meal. As for academic work, I:
revised the Heidegger assignment and finished it
finished reading The Technologies of Intelligence by Pierre Lévy
did 3/4 of my Political Theory final assignment
