Happy Beltane, darlings! 🌸🌿🔥

As we approach the peak of spring, it's time to celebrate the beauty and fertility of the season. Beltane is the perfect time to connect with nature, honor the earth, and indulge in some whimsical fun. Here are some correspondences and ideas for how to celebrate:

Maypole, flowers and flower crowns, bonfires, ribbons.

🌈 Colors

Green, pink, white, yellow, red.

🔮 Spells

Fertility, love, creativity, abundance, growth.

I Have No Idea What I'm Doing

...But Here We Go!

Okay, so I've had this Tumblr for a few weeks and haven't posted anything, might as well change that! It's a Sunday morning, I don't have any lingering chores for once...so let's see what I can do here.

I guess I'll start with my introduction. I'm Aurora Moon, practicing Witch since July 2020. I think I'll do multi-part posts to explain how I went from "raised in a Christian home" to "now refers to energies and The Universe" (although, I'm finding a lot of people do have that origin story!).

I started my practice leaning to being a Kitchen Witch (I'm a Sun Cancer, I love to bake and cook, and I try really hard to make my house feel like a home to anyone that enters), but I'm now dipping my hands into other forms - Green and Divination mostly, and maybe I more identify as an Elemental Witch? Or...maybe I just don't need labels! I'm a Witch, that's what you need to know :-)

While I've definitely grown in the last 2 years, I still feel like there is SOOO much I don't know. Sometimes it gets frustrating when I see these big discussions online and I don't understand the terms being used. The beauty of this crooked path though, is that you can always be learning. I may say something today that I believe to be true, or do something a certain way - doesn't mean it'll be the same in a few weeks, months, or years. (If, however, I do say something that is outright wrong or harmful, please educate me! I'm willing to admit mistakes)

I hope to make some connections here, as I don't know any Witches in real life (yet) - coming to this practice during the pandemic was a blessing and a curse. Blessing, since I had nothing but time to learn, lay a foundation, and take time to ease into things. Curse, since all my friends are online and not close to me at all! I do hope to connect to Witches in real life at some point, but for now the Internet will have to suffice :-)

Protection Candle to cast circles

I have been practicing witchcraft off and on for about 16 years, and in those 16 years I've discovered that I do not have the patience to cast a protective circle with elaborate chants and hand movements every time that I do a spell. So I developed this particular method, which works perfectly for me. And it might work for you as well!

What do we need?

A white candle

Pester and Mortar

Neutral oil (I use almond oil, but olive oil is okay too)

Rosemary (for cleansing and purification)

Lavender (for cleansing and purification)

Mugwort (for protection)

Bay leaf (for purification, protection and to set intention)

Thyme (for banishing)

The process

I like to cleanse my space first before doing any spell work. I light my previous candle if I have one, otherwise I cleanse with sound. For this, I use my bell and ring it thrice.

Add the Rosemary, Lavender, Mugwort and Thyme in your mortar. Grind until the herbs are small.

Take your bay leaf and write your intention down on it.

Add it to your mortar and grind until its small.

Anoint your candle with the oil.

Sprinkle your herb mixture on the candle until it's covered to your satisfaction.

Put the candle in a candle holder and light it whenever you want to do a spell. You can walk a circle with it or just let it burn on your altar. That's completely up to you, what you feel is best.

That is my very easy protection candle, which I use to cast circles with. I usually let it burn on my altar for the duration of my spell work and blow it out when I am done. While working on the candle, I also like to play some music. I make playlists with songs that give me the right vibe; Click here for my protection playlist!

Are you ready to create your own sacred space? Let's dive into the enchanting world of altar creation. Here are some steps to guide you in setting up a personalized and meaningful altar:

1️⃣ Choose the Perfect Location: Find a quiet and peaceful spot in your home where you can dedicate space for your altar. It could be a table, shelf, or even a small corner that feels special to you.

2️⃣ Select Your Altar Tools: Gather items that hold significance and resonate with your spiritual practice. These can include candles, crystals, statues or symbols representing deities, feathers, shells, incense, or any other objects that hold personal meaning.

3️⃣ Cleanse and Bless Your Space: Before setting up your altar, cleanse the area with sacred smoke, such as sage or palo santo, to purify the energy. You can also use a bell or chime to create a clear and sacred atmosphere.

4️⃣ Choose a Focal Point: Select a centerpiece for your altar that represents your spiritual connection. This could be a statue of a deity, a sacred symbol, or an item that holds deep meaning for you.

5️⃣ Arrange Your Altar Elements: Start placing your chosen items on the altar, arranging them intuitively. Consider the four elements (earth, air, fire, water) and their representations as you position your objects. Experiment with different layouts until it feels harmonious to you.
